Hey guys, real quick. So, I've talked to men literally all across the globe about where they're missing the mark and how they want to improve. They normally talk about how they wish they were in better shape, they wish they had a better relationship with their loved ones, they wish they had more success and influence at work and some other stuff like that. But, here are some of the most common and biggest things that I hear. I wish I knew more about the Bible. I wish I could lead my family spiritually. I wish I could recall more scripture. I wish Bible study wasn't such a struggle. Well, guys, I've got news for you. You don't have to keep wishing. It's time for you to start doing. It's time for you to stop wasting your time and money on stuff that has no eternal value whatsoever. I keep hearing you talk about how you want to be more biblically literate and spiritually resilient, and now is your chance to prove that you mean it. That's why I want you to take advantage of our partnership with the most powerful Bible software on planet Earth, Logos. So, Logos approached me about putting something together for the Undaunted Lifers out there, and we collaborated to create something I'm super pumped about. The Undaunted Life Study Bundle. The mission of Undaunted Life is equipping men to push back darkness with content that forges spiritual, mental, and physical resilience. At the Forging Table, you'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience by digging into God's word, and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with us. That's Horn. That's Winkler. That's Caleb. >> Hey. >> Way to go. >> I feel like the last [laughter] recording got really contentious. And we were talking about, you know, people using Bible verses how they want to use their Bible verses. >> Where is this going? >> To attack. And so, after this >> is why You know what? This is why you should have left their mics off. >> Let me Let me finish. >> Caleb, this is just going to be me and you this week, >> let me Just let me finish. After that horrible Michael Knowles game we had to play that one time. I figure we might have another game to play called >> props. >> The Bible is fun. >> Funny. >> [laughter] >> The Bible is funny. >> is funny. Okay. >> Yeah, the Bible is funny. >> Yeah, we played the yes or no game and that was not great. >> I just feel like the last episode like we should >> Did he like >> Did he make the game? The Bible is funny. >> Well, so >> It was it's a yes or no game. >> yes no. >> Were you here when we did the >> I wasn't here. I saw it this morning. I was watching the >> underwhelming >> What it was I was like, what did I I don't even understand the game. >> So it's supposed to be a drinking [laughter] game and you have to drink to play that game. >> Yeah, I guess that was probably the thing. We didn't really do the drinking part of it, but I will say that I was literally like I was trying to shine up this turd as much as I could and all I did was make a mess. Which is part of the thing when you start shining up turds. Like you can only shine it up so much. Okay, this is The Bible is funny by someone named Anthony Russo. So there's your free shout-out. Unless are you getting paid for this? >> I'm not. >> Did you do product placement on our show? Okay. >> this for Christmas. My daughter loves this game. >> The Bible taken out of context since AD 95. >> Yep, there we go. >> That's a that's a great [laughter] great tagline. >> it's a great segway from from our last episode. >> Okay, so what are we doing here Horn? >> is it's kind of like Apples to Apples. So I'm you're going to get five cards. They're going to have Bible verses on them. And I'm going to read you something from these things and we'll pass it around. And when you read it there's two. There's a there's a there's like kind of a a >> So what what is >> yellow portion and a black portion. >> Okay. >> So you can read either one. And so >> appropriate and one's inappropriate? That'd be cool. >> I think this is all pretty PG I guess. >> Yeah, it's all pretty PG to a point. I mean there's some songs of Solomon in there. >> Oh. >> So yeah. But we're going to start pulling out the fawns. Let's go. >> [laughter] >> But so I'll read it off. We'll we'll do this. We'll do the first of five. >> First of How do you get How do you get a thing? >> So whoever wins like when I do when I read it and I pick and I pick that person's verse they get it. We can do the first of three. However you guys want to. >> All right, well we'll see how it goes. Wait, so you have to pick one of ours and >> then if you pick it we get the you can look at the cards. Wait, so okay. All right, so I'm going to pull from this deck and read. Hang on, let me read read mine first. Well, once I read it you're going to figure out what voices or what versus voices. >> [laughter] >> I mean I hear voices in a second guys. When super charismatic there for a minute. Don't do it. Or Rayma? Is it Rama or Rayma? I can't remember. Is that when is that when you hear the what did they say when you were in your cult? Which how did they pronounce it? We didn't say that. Okay. All right, so all right. So how are we doing this? Yep. All right. All right, so I'm going to read this. The fastest way to make a new best friend is to walk right up to them and say Okay. Wait, so do I do I play a card or what do I do I just put put this down? Don't let me see it. Okay. And then I'm going to mix them all up so I I can't I can't pick I can't pick a favorite. No, I'm going to pick Winkler so he's not mad at me. I'm not mad [laughter] at you. All right, so we're going to like mix them up. Mix them up. I'll never be mad at Ryan Horn. All right, [laughter] so so you got to read them all out loud. So read read the setup again. I'll read the setup each time I get ready to read the card. How about that? All right. The fastest way to make a new best friend is to walk up to them and say let me tell you what the Lord said to me last night. The fastest way to make a new best friend that's that's how you make it in Bethel. The fastest way to make a new best friend is to walk right up to them and say you are my friends you are my friends if you do what I command. DEMANDING FRIENDSHIP. >> [laughter] >> YOU WILL DO THIS. The fastest way to make a new best friend is to walk right up to them and say at my table you will eat your fill of horses. >> [laughter] >> Okay, which one we go with? Mhm. Man, they're so they're they're good. >> I would have to go with you will do what I command. >> Boom. >> That's me. >> Okay, Caleb. [laughter] >> I literally was like, "That has TO BE KYLE." >> THAT'S WHAT I [laughter] WOULD HAVE SAID. >> YOU GUYS CAN pull from the deck. >> All right. And then Winkler will cut this. >> All right, Winkler. You got the next one. >> Yep. >> All right. >> So, I don't I don't play this round. >> No, you don't play, but you you can pick either side. Black side or yellow side. >> I'll take yellow. >> All right. Okay, here we go. >> All right. An excuse I would use to get out of going somewhere. >> [laughter] >> I'm not like curious like what I have to Oh, I'm supposed [snorts] to close my eyes. >> Yeah, I'll mix them up for you. I'll be the official mixer. >> What was the question again? >> An excuse I would use to get out of going somewhere. >> We have been mixed. All right, here we go. So, read the setup and and the line with every one of them. All right. >> All right. Fat fingers can't get under there. No fingernails today. Okay so an excuse I would use to get out of going somewhere. I'm tired of living among people who hate peace. >> [laughter] >> Sure. >> An excuse I would use to get out of going somewhere. 9:00 in the morning is too much too early for that. Acts 2:50. >> reasonable. >> An excuse I would use to get out of going somewhere. I was caught up in the third heaven 13 [laughter] years ago. >> That's a winner. >> That's a winner. >> Let's go. I WAS CAUGHT UP IN THE THIRD HEAVEN. >> HIM THAT CARD. >> so I get this card. >> And then we take take another one. >> So, yeah, you wait. Here you He dealt you one. He dealt you one. Here we'll put Yeah, we'll put it back. All right. So, that's yours. All right, so my My All right, so it's one to one, to zero. Okay, bang, going with this one. Okay. Ooh, both of these are good. Both of these are good. All right, uh It's either an Apollo 13 thing or something about exes. Well, we'll go with exes. All right, my ex, how have you been? Me. >> [laughter] >> Nice. >> Oh, this [laughter] is going to be It's going to be a bit of an issue. And we we need to start saying the scripture that we're quoting as well. >> Okay, yeah, that's a good point. >> be helpful. Cuz these are our actual like biblical quotes. That's I guess the why the Bible is funny. slash card game. >> Oh, man. I want to verify Well, I guess it's by scripture. Or by translation. >> you translation. They do give you translation at the bottom, I saw. >> I really Yeah, I wanted to save that one for later, but >> We're good. All right, here we go. Here's the three. >> I'm I'm going to be stunned if I don't win this one. Honestly, I'm not. >> [laughter] >> Honestly. >> go. Don't try to give it away by by laughing, doing the Winkler laugh. My ex, how have you been? Me. I'm full of words. Job 32:18. Uh my ex, how have you been? Me. Now then, I have prepared my case. I know that I am right. Okay? Job 13:8. We got Job all over the place. My ex, how have you been? Me. When I tripped and fell, they were ALL VERY HAPPY. [laughter] YEAH, THAT ONE WINS. >> THAT'S NOT FAIR. >> THAT'S not fair to me. >> I I loved my I'm full of words. >> Yeah, full of words. [laughter] That was a good one. That was a good one. Okay, everybody's on the board except for Winkler. All right, cool. All right, these are these are dead ones. >> Not nearly as funny as I thought I was, apparently. All right, so you know, I'm reading. >> No, these are dead ones. Yeah, it's your your turn. Your turn. >> dead ones. >> All right. Jake, you got to get on the board here, man. >> Uh you'll get here. >> I'm not funny. >> You you have to play the cards you dealt. All right? >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Remember, you're playing the player, not the cards, right? Rounders. >> All right. >> [clears throat] >> I'm going with my automated email response when I'm on vacation. >> Okay. >> [laughter] >> Okay, mix them up. Mix them up. Don't look. Don't look. >> I'm not tracking. >> Don't cheat. All right. All right, give the setup >> Yep. >> the thing and the scripture. >> All right, my automated email response when I'm on vacation. If you find honey, eat just enough. Too much of it and you will vomit. >> What's the verse? >> Proverbs 25:16 NIV. >> [laughter] >> All right, my automated email response when I'm on vacation. Your Your meetings do more harm than good. 1 Corinthians [laughter] 11:17. Classic. I think I might use that. >> I was going to say I want that. [laughter] No, I will not meet with you. Uh my automated email response when I'm on vacation. I will not change my mind and I will have no pity on you. Ezekiel 24:14. [laughter] >> All right, what are we going with? >> Oh, man, I'm going with your meetings do more harm than good. >> Bang, let's go. [laughter] Let's go. >> You give that to Kyle. >> All right, I got two. I got two. What are we going to? >> We're going to three. >> to three. [laughter] >> All right, hey, well >> I mean, last time we >> Maybe we can go to four. >> All right, we'll go to four. >> Yadi Ermali, let's go. >> All right. >> [laughter] >> This is already better than yes or no. >> Yeah. >> Something >> you would immediately regret saying at a dinner party. I I've I've I've lived this. >> [laughter] >> All right, here we go. >> Something you would immediately regret saying at a dinner party. You are nothing more than who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well. >> Man, someone's been to my Super Bowl party. >> That's [laughter] right. That's right. >> Something you immediately regret saying at dinner at a dinner party. Oh, that was it. Yeah, I said Ezekiel. You are a child of the devil and an enemy [laughter] of everything that is right. Acts 13:10. >> What kind of scripture is this? Like your Super Bowl party. >> [laughter] >> Something you immediately regret saying at a dinner party. Crafty fellow that I am, I caught you by trickery. Second Corinthians 12:16. Man. >> [laughter] >> Which one we going with? Like one's really about me, but one's like one's my persona. >> I would have to go with sings love songs with a beautiful voice. >> Let's [laughter] go. I AM CRUSHING Y'ALL RIGHT NOW. GET out of here. >> You missed it on that one, right? >> Gosh, this is like the USA versus Canada in hockey. Let's go. I'm going to bring it up every week. Bang, three to one to one to nada. And you don't even have a chance to get on the board this time, do you? >> This is awesome. >> Man. >> [laughter] >> Jake is loving it. Oh man. >> How about we just go until Jake gets one? >> [laughter] >> It'll be like 12 to 14 to 10 to All right. >> Something you might hear at a CrossFit gym. >> Ready? >> Maybe that's why I'm winning. I'm putting it down emphatically every time. I'm just like >> Jake's like Jake's trying not to [laughter] look. >> I I I I am. I can't let Kyle win. >> All right, HERE WE GO. ALL RIGHT. >> Do you have any guesses? >> Something you might hear at a CrossFit gym. No, you will never ever wash my feet. John 13:8. Something you might hear at a CrossFit gym. How long must I put up with you? Matthew 17:17. >> [laughter] >> Winner. >> Something you might hear at a CrossFit gym. This is winning. >> Its stench will go up. Its smell will rise. Joel [laughter] 2:20. >> Yeah. >> wasn't even close. That was not even close. All right, Caleb. >> Keeping this game going. >> All right, here we go. We got to keep it going. Jake is still not on the board. We might have to go first to four or until Jake >> We should at least go five. >> [laughter] >> I'm going to get I'm going to get mercy ruled. >> All right, here we go. Here we go. Ooh, man, both of these are good. Bible Man's catchphrase should have been Bible Man, Bible Man. >> I don't even know who Bible Man is. I don't know this I don't know this person. >> Wait, wait, you don't know who Bible Man is? >> Dude, Willie Aames, man. >> hey, we'll do the other one then. Since two of the three So, that's like the uh that was like a superhero back in like the '90s or whatever. So, all right. >> Remember Charles in Charge? >> I do. >> Remember his goofy buddy? >> Buddy? >> Yeah, he played uh Bible Man. >> Bible Man? >> Yeah. >> All right, so we're switching it up. Here it is. The energy I bring to a Monday morning. So, this is me, Kyle. The energy that I, Kyle Thompson, bring to a Monday morning. >> [laughter] >> I've been waiting to play this card. >> Uh here we go. Here we go. Let me know when I'm ready, Caleb. >> All right, we're ready. >> All right, we're ready. All right, here we are. Here we are. The energy I bring to a Monday morning. >> [laughter] >> I am more stupid than ANY OTHER PERSON. >> [laughter] >> I KNOW WHO I KNOW WHO'S CARD THAT WAS. >> 32. Proverbs [laughter] 30:2. Great. The energy I bring to a Monday morning. I am not pleased with you. >> [laughter] >> Malachi 1:10. >> That's what very seen. >> That's real. >> I feel very seen at this very moment. >> with you when he wakes up. >> the energy I bring to a Monday morning. We have found this man to be a troublemaker. >> [laughter] >> Uh Acts 25 24:5. I don't want to play this game anymore. I'm going to be real honest. But I got to go with this one cuz it's funniest. The energy I bring to a Monday morning. I am more stupid than any other person. [laughter] Proverbs 30:2. There you go. There's your card. All right. So, we got three to two to two to Jake. What do you have? I don't know what Jake has. Oh, Jake still has zero. >> Jake still has zero. >> Well, while you're dealing, I have to say >> I suck at all games other than trivia. >> Other than trivia, right. >> We're [laughter] staying away from that. >> You always give me a run for my money in trivia. It's great to be here with Jake in person, but I will say there's nothing quite like listening to you laugh at two times speed. >> Why do you think I have to turn his mic down? [laughter] It's not off like it was last week, but all right, here we go. >> every time he laughs. >> [sighs and gasps] >> Worse things to be known for in life than your laugh. >> Oh, man. Okay. So, I'm not going to choose this one, but I feel like it would be funny. Is the name of my new podcast. >> Oh, no. Do it. >> the other one. Could be a good one. >> He's doing it. >> It's the phrase Chick-fil-A employees would say if they no longer said, "My pleasure." >> You know what? I I only read the first one. I'm not even going to read the other four cuz >> one's the winner. >> That's That one is the winner. >> [laughter] >> All right. Don't look. Don't look. >> I'm going to read it in the same voice as my pleasure when [laughter] they how they say it. >> Please do. >> Please do. I I think mine will be >> [laughter] >> I already gave you >> Oh, you didn't. >> No, you're going >> I think everyone's pretty confident and in these. All right. >> Okay. So, we say, "Thank you." And they say, "I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night." It's Psalm [laughter] 36:6. >> [clears throat] >> So, we say, "Thank you." I will let you bake your bread over cow dung instead of human >> [laughter] >> excrement. >> Oh, nice. >> All right, we say thank you. They say, those who marry will face many troubles in this life and I want to spare you this. >> [laughter] >> That's first Corinthians 7:28. >> Oh my gosh. >> [laughter] >> I'll go I will let you bake your bread over cow dung. >> Let's go. Okay, I kind of feel like we got to go until Jake gets one. [laughter] All right, that's when the game ends. So I got the gold medal. God bless. >> This is just completely shattering my self image. >> You stole the wrong card. That's fine. >> That's all right. Yeah, we we got it. All right, Jake, you got this. Come on, man. >> Larry the Cucumber turned to Bob the Tomato and said, >> You know what? But here's the thing, we can't we got to still give full effort, Caleb. All right, I know that Caleb's all by himself. >> Who are they? >> All right, we'll go with the next one. Me before coffee. >> What? >> Me before coffee. >> Oh, before coffee. So Ryan Horn before coffee. >> We should actually ask my wife this because last Friday I did I did not have coffee that morning. I had to >> All right, Jake, we are all pulling for you [laughter] at this point, but nobody feels confident. >> you mix them up? I saw what Jake put down. >> Cuz we have to keep the game going. We have to keep the game actually going. Okay. >> I don't want a participation trophy. >> All right, here we go. >> [laughter] >> You're not a child of the 90s. >> That one was already played. >> Me before coffee. Help. >> For no one is faithful anymore. Psalms 21 or 12:1. Excuse me. Me before coffee. I do not keep my mouth closed as you know. >> [laughter] >> Psalm 49 40 verse 9. Me before coffee. The darkness is my closest friend. >> Darkness my closest friend. >> It's Psalm 88:18. >> Okay, so which one are we going with? >> I do not keep my mouth closed as YOU KNOW. >> BANG. >> Y'ALL SUCK AT THIS GAME. Let's keep this going. Let's keep Jake. Come [laughter] on dude. >> All right, give the cards to me. No, no, no. We're skipping you, Jake. You got to try to get this thing, right? I got a I got a full house over here. All right, here we go. Let me see. >> I literally I I do I actually have a duplicate I got a card again. >> Well, that's okay. We'll give it up. >> Then somebody put it back on top. >> Oh, okay. >> Cuz the deck cards are supposed to go over there. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Uh I'm not going to do what I think while listening to a true crime podcast. What I am going to do, if you had to guess, my last words will probably be So, what would be my last words? Uh Jake feels confident. He's already giggling like an idiot. All right, here we go. >> [laughter] >> All right, I'm not going to look. I'm not going to look. Caleb, give them a mix. >> Give them a mix, Caleb. >> Put Jake's on top. >> All right. >> [laughter] >> All right, Jake. >> Stop it. >> May the odds be ever in your favor. All right, here we go. >> Turn them into lessons. >> If you had to guess, my last words will probably be Everyone who sees me mocks me. Damn, guys. God. Good grief. Okay, that is uh Psalm 22:7 in the NLT. If you had to guess what my last words would probably be, I know where you live. >> [laughter] >> Revelation 2:13. I'm going to haunt people baby. >> All right. If you had to guess, my last words will probably be Why this waste? >> Oh gosh, [laughter] that's like >> That's like Ecclesiastes. All right, that's definitely from Ryan. All right, [laughter] Caleb, so I'm eliminating that one. Okay. >> Don't try Don't >> I'm not going to try to decide >> I'm going to stay. >> This game is the Bible is funny, not discernment. >> Okay. >> All All all right. >> If you had to guess, my last words will probably be I know where YOU LIVE. REVELATION. >> [laughter] >> JAKE IS IN HERE. THERE YOU GO. Frame that. We can put it in the Stan Usual frame jersey thing like we did. Okay, hey, you know what? You did you you redeemed the yes no game thing. That was a disaster. >> the yes no game? >> I did. >> I did. I even bought the expansion packs with like all kinds of other stuff and >> bad that you wasted money on >> It never helped. It did not get better. And the thing was is I kept extending it out hoping that it was going to catch at some point. It was no. Like it was >> Next time we play that game Dagan's wife got to drop off another bottle of scotch. >> Oh, yeah. [laughter] Dagan, we need some Macallan 18 to bring it by. Or hey, maybe you can just bring one of your fancy bottles of bourbon. >> lots I got lots of bottles. >> Hey, what? For for next week we can have some cuz we're going to have if y'all want we can we can raid my my little station down there. >> Okay. >> But we'll figure it out. Guys, we are in Romans 6 and it's been pretty uneventful up to this point. Like everyone's just kind of been agreeing and high-fiving and and hugging and stuff like that afterwards. A lot of kumbaya going on. Unless you watched the end of last week and I had to do something that I never thought Caleb that I was ever going to have to do. Okay? It was just me and you there at the end because I had to turn these two dorks I had to turn their mics off cuz they just wouldn't hush their butts. They were getting red, they were getting all feisty and you know, he had his shades on so he was trying to intimidate Ryan but Ryan was just looking right back at him and it like it got it got a little bit it was a little bit contentious and I don't even know why. >> I love Ryan. >> And I love Jake. I will never say anything different. I love Ryan. >> And Jake knows I love him and I think I've said on this podcast multiple times how much joy Jake brings me. >> Well, I love Lance. So we're just [laughter] going to keep going here. All right. Caleb on the other hand All right, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to pretend like we're going to be able to move past where we got to last week but Caleb, you're going to read 12 and 13 and then they're going to argue. So we're going to talk about 5 through 11. Yeah, that's that's basically what's going to happen. So Romans 6 guys for following along at home, we're going to read verses 12 and 13. >> All right. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey obey its lusts. And do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of right righteousness to God. I found this I found this really convicting about members, and it brings back to like this Calvinist idea. No, I'm joking. >> [laughter] >> Jake slowly dies inside. >> No, I actually found this I actually found like I was like he uses members. I'm like, what is members? You know, and I'm like and then so I go and look up members, and what he's talking about is hands, feet, and tongue. Um like what do we do with our hands? What do we do with our feet? And you know how we're called to be like God's or Christ's hands and feet, and also his tongue, you know, preaching the gospel. I found this very convicting, and the reason I found it convicting is cuz we're talking about sin here, and we're talking about and we're going to go into righteousness, and uh Pastor Mark did a sermon on Ephesians 5 that I missed out on, but I was listening to it as I was driving um back from a meeting. And uh he talked about how we have sexual immorality. So, it really brought up the sexual immorality they talked about in Ephesians 5. One of the things he talked talked about was like dirty jokes. And like no lie, we were playing poker with some friends just last weekend. And a buddy made kind of a comment, and I am quick on the whim with a dirty joke. And I felt like so convicted on that because it's like man, not only do I you know, we can use our members to sin, our hands and feet to sin, to hit or to kick, but our tongues man, our tongues are the most sinful. You know, and can bring out the flesh that we have, and I got really convicted on that. I was like, man, I even told my wife I'm like, I'm so quick to come back with like a dirty quip, you know? And I was like, man, I was really convicted by that. And when reading this and reading about, you know, our members being instruments of righteousness or instruments of sin of unrighteousness, like I found it very convicting. >> You saying hands, feet, and tongue? >> That's what That's what I came away came away with. >> If you got If you >> Well, I was thinking I was thinking mind. >> [laughter] >> I'm sorry. >> ARE YOU TELL ME TELL ME AFTER. YOU THINKING OF ANOTHER MEMBER? [laughter] >> [gasps] >> CAN'T WAIT >> REMEMBER, all right. Well, Jake, get your point. >> No. No, I No, I was actually just asking. I mean, what about the mind? >> Well, so I feel like the mind and the tongue are kind of connected. >> Okay. >> You know? >> Well, I mean, I The only reason I would say maybe not cuz I mean, I would say I think a whole lot. You know? >> But you don't say. >> Or don't do. I think everything. >> You know, you know, so I mean, going kind of back to the the deep the sanctification journey, I mean, I will tell you like when I first felt like I was really following Christ, I kind of got I was like, okay, this the obvious stuff is obvious, right? >> Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> But over time, I mean, there's just certain things that I used to do that I was like, well, this is no big deal. I'm just listening to it. Or I'm just watching it. >> Yeah. >> You know? And now there's just I was like, I can't watch that anymore. I can't listen to that anymore. I mean, it's just what I'm feeding my mind has to change. What you're reading has to change. I mean, even the um even like watching sports, I used to get like freaking psychotic. I mean, whenever I would watch sports. And now I've just gone like, hey, it's not going our way. Turn it off. Just turn it off and walk away. There's no reason to get upset. Quit wasting your time. >> Well, and Jake, I can actually I can actually attest to that because we were doing the this couple's dinner [clears throat] or whatever. >> Oh, yeah. >> And [laughter] so this would have been this would have been last fall and so Jake is to his detriment a big OU football fan and a big Chicago Cubs fan. So he just [laughter] I guess he just loves being relevant once a century or whatever. And so >> That hurt me, too. >> All right. So this is OU Texas weekend. >> This is home. Yeah. >> Sorry. This is home. [laughter] My home. >> Yeah. >> Sorry. So it's OU Texas weekend and this was when this is the first round of the Major League Baseball playoffs. And so simultaneously, which I thought was great, but he's he's he's he's dying. OU's about to lose to Texas and the Cubs are getting blown out by the Brewers. And I am just doing everything I can to try to just not giggle like the entire time. >> Which so helps. >> [laughter] >> I tried to hide it. I tried to hide it but it was like >> know if I believe that you did try to hide >> Well, you know, it's trying it's like I'm trying to hide a yellow hat with a purple [laughter] bill. It was just like not it was >> How was Jake not at OU Texas? >> Uh yeah, well, this is like the first year in forever yet I'm gone. >> actually gave away my tickets to somebody who was never gone. >> Cuz he's a good person. >> [laughter] >> Um and so I'm watching him slowly melt into Howard Wickersham's couch and I'm just like and he's just dying inside. But you could tell that there you could tell that he was disappointed. Obviously, you want your your teams to win. I mean, it's no fun if you've got like two favorite sports and favorite teams and then they're How often do they lose important games at the same time like >> Not just lose. Like got to [ __ ] >> Yeah, they were they were getting donkey stomped and so and then [laughter] like at the same time, yeah. It's a good expression. But then, you know, I watched you at at one point you you could sense that you were frustrated, obviously, but we're there with our families, we're there with our kids and you just you kind of did this thing you just kind of go And then you you mentally moved past it to where you were like, I'm disappointed. This is this is a problem, but old Jake Yeah, Kyle, like if I was in your shoes and all that, the weekend's done. Right? We [laughter] we are finished. We're going to be mad at church. We're kicking the dog when we get home. Like and so you had found a a place in your journey of sanctification to be like, okay, it goes back to what I say which is don't let sports ruin your night. >> Yeah, it was one of the it's actually funny. I mean, I used to almost have like physical manifestations of being sick before an OU game. I would get so anxious about them playing. Like when they before they would play Texas every year, I would just get like this like oh I couldn't eat. It was bad and I'm just like that just can't be right. That can't be healthy at all. >> No way. So that night was mostly about OU, not really about the Cubs. >> it was about both. >> As a Cubs [laughter] fan, I am a huge Cubs fan. I grew up watching the Cubs in the 90s. I'm so used to losing that it doesn't really matter. >> [laughter] >> Agree, but it was to the Brewers. Like if it was the if it was the Dodgers, I'd have been like, what are you going to do? The Dodgers are just better than everybody. >> I agree. I hear you on that. >> not like the Brewers. >> I don't like the Brewers like >> [laughter] >> just as much as I like the Cardinals. >> Like the biggest two big rivals. >> I feel like that that killed me and I'm not as big of an OU fan as you are, but I think losing to Texas was harder on me than the Cubs losing to >> [laughter] >> Milwaukee. Cuz my mom like my mom would like come out when my dad and I were watching like the Cubs game. She's like, you guys watching these losers? You know? I'm like, >> Now, I'm curious for for Caleb though cuz Caleb's got this bright sunny disposition. He's always smiling, always happy. He's flashing his baby blues everywhere. But do you like freak out? I know you're a Royals fan. But do you have like is there a sport or a thing where it's like where you just kind of like lose it? Cuz there are people like that. They're nice, but then when they watch like whatever their sport is, they lose their minds. >> No, I really don't. Honestly, [clears throat] but but my I think my biggest fandom probably is it's probably the Thunder now. >> Yeah. >> Like I'd be really disappointed, you know, if they if they just, you know, crapped the bed at the end of the season. But no, I've never been one to like kind of lose it like that. So, >> When I just >> So, keep that, first of all. >> Yeah, like but but that's the thing that, you know, >> May the Lord bless you and keep you. >> [laughter] >> For for a lot of people, they don't and this is how I say it and people think I'm I'm being funny, I'm not. I'm like, I don't have the emotional maturity to be invested in my favorite sports teams. I just don't. And so, that's why like right now, I can't I can name maybe three or four players on the St. Louis Cardinals. When before I could tell you like the guy on the end of the bullpen >> on the bench >> right? And I could give you his whip, his ERA, and when he should be brought into the game. But it's like whenever I cared about it that much. Like I I guess the way you could say it is back in those days, back in my 20s, if you squeezed me, Cardinals came out, right? >> [laughter] >> But like, you know, again, I you know, you brought up Mark earlier. When Mark was here on the podcast, he asked me, you know, "Hey, do you have a Bible?" He's like, "I only have my travel Bible." And so, I just, you know, handed my Bible. It just sat there open. He never looked at it and just quoted scripture the whole time. So, you squeeze Mark Hitchcock, Bible verses come out. Now, Mark likes sports. Mark has he's fans of these this team over that team or this player over that player. You know, he he does athletic endeavors and all that. He he works out, he does all those different things. But it's like whatever's in there, when you get squeezed, that's what's going to come out. And so, when you're put in that tense situation about, "Oh, rivalry game." And it's it's built up and you know, "Oh, if one of these teams win, they could be in the, you know, college football playoff." Or, "Oh my gosh, you know, you can't you can't lose this game in Milwaukee because then, you know, then home field basically flips and all that and you were the higher seed." None of that matters. What what matters is like, "Wait a minute. Can I be an upstanding like moral like paragon of virtue for my family right now and still watch this game?" No. Flowchart time. Don't watch the game. >> It's the same way with like songs, right? I mean, there's 500 songs that could come on right now and we'd all start singing them. >> You could you could play the first 3 seconds and I'd catch it. >> Yeah, for sure. Well, I mean >> But then it's like thoughts just throughout the day like how how often do we just go right to a like >> To the scriptures that >> Well, that's why we have you you got us those Bibles. It's like yeah, when we're sitting around, what are we doing? Are we reading, scrolling, or are we like diving into the word? >> Right. >> Well, I will tell you so having your Bible on you because I you know, I'll post pictures of you know, the Bibles that I got made and it's got the you know, the Phil Robertson gospel symbols there on the spine and all that and then Jake's got one in there as well. It's a very very ugly color combination. Uh it's you know, more cubby uh cubby blue and all that so not my favorite. But [laughter] um the thing is is it's led to more conversations with people because let's say you are a disciplined Bible reader on your phone. And so let me grab Jake's phone here. >> [laughter] >> For those of you just listening to this, you don't get the joke. >> like a phone for his hand. >> Right. So so when you're Shrek-sized, this does look like [laughter] uh it looks like an old Nokia phone. And so imagine you're sitting in the waiting room or you know, you're getting your oil changed something like that and here you are scrolling. Everyone else [clears throat] that walks by oh, he's doing email, he's doing Instagram, he's scrolling TikTok, he's whatever and you could be reading the Bible. Right. But when you walk into some place with this and you just open it up, it's like most people have an understanding of at least what the Bible is and looks like. >> Mhm. >> And so it's just led to to very interesting conversations from people uh people asking for prayer, people like oh, I had a lady just hey, so what church do you go to? Cuz here I am reading the Bible, she assumes I go to church. We have a a nice little conversation. She ends up telling me hey, I've been at the church for the last 28 years. I'm like oh, that's incredible. You've seen this church grow and all those types of things and then she goes yeah, I just I I just kind of have a burden for my son though. Do you know any churches in in this area? And you know, she didn't know who I was. She doesn't know the the men's ministry stuff that I do and so I got the opportunity to minister to this lady. I gave her my number, wrote down the two podcasts, Don't Only Live and and The Daily Blade. I was like, "Hey, give this to your son." >> Yeah. >> And here's a church in that area that I know another church that planted a church in your where your son lives. Like, tell him to go in there and like, "Hey, Mom's" he's probably not going to listen to Mom if Mom's like, "Hey, you need to go to church." But, you give him a number to a stranger that may pop up on his algorithm every now and then. It's like now he's got a direct line to me all because I wasn't scrolling or you know, responding to text messages or emails just because I had my Bible there in front of me. >> I'll Yep. I'll tell you where the this has helped me a ton. So, I actually the the whole thing of like the distractions that Satan will throw at you just throughout the day. Uh and what I did at my in my office on the left side of me, I've got the armor of God like on a little picture. I've got Colossians 3:23 and 24 on a little plaque in front of me. And to my right is always my Bible. The idea is no matter which way I look from my desk, I've got scripture in front of me. And I also did that like there's a little widget on your phone you can add. So, before I even open my phone, I've got scripture that's there on my phone before I unlock it. The entire thing is at all times whenever I'm working or whenever I'm going to look at my phone, anytime I'm doing anything, it's the first thing I want to see is scripture in front of me. I have found that like my conversations, my thoughts, everything has been much more godly than it was otherwise. And I think just having this ugly cubby blue, although I would disagree with that, this ugly cubby blue Bible on my right side, it's like I just I throw it down and I lay it open. And what's remarkable is how many of my employees have now come into my office and just outright been like, "Hey, that's really cool you have that." And they want to talk to me about stuff. Like this [clears throat] one guy's like, "Hey, I actually have a tattoo of that scripture that you have on your desk right here." And I was like, "Well, that's really cool." So, they've gotten much more comfortable just talking to me about that as well, which is So, I guess I would say I thanked you for the Bible, but thank you for thank you for just that >> push >> welcome distraction as well. So, >> Well, in part of it, I mean, it goes back to the the verses we're in, 12 and 13. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body to make you obey its passions. I mean, we have to go to war against our sinful desires. And so, you know, obviously Unfiltered Life, a man's podcast for anyone listening with their their kiddos, but a lot of guys in our audience, they struggle with pornography consumption, which leads to masturbation. And so, typically there's not one without the other. And so, you have a lot [clears throat] of guys that they don't have a different um I guess structure to their life. It it basically follows the same pattern. I'm alone. I'm bored. I need to self-soothe. I watch porn. I masturbate. And then it's kind of just rinse and repeat throughout their life. And it's like, you just need to like throw like just one little curveball in there, right? Like one little something in there to where it's like, "Okay, I'm alone. I'm bored. Stop." >> Yeah. >> We do something else, right? I mean, I saw a video today about like if your kid's throwing a tantrum where, you know, a kid that can reckon. It's like, "Hey, just be like, all right, hey." You know, so if James, my oldest, is throwing a little tantrum, I'm all, "That's like, okay, buddy, 100 squats. Let's go." And so, it's like I'm getting him to move his body. I'm getting him to like readjust. He's he's going from one part of his brain to a different part of his brain. And it's like, "Hey, we're I'm not going to listen to you until we we knock out these push-ups." Or until, you know, "we move this sandbag over there." Or something like that. And it's not a torturous thing. It's just I'm trying to like re-rewire, you know, [clears throat] the pathways of of of his brain cuz most people just they they they don't do war against their own body cuz even in verse 13, do not present your members to sin as instruments of for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. So, R.C. Sproul pointed out that this is related to Philippians 2:12 and 13. So, Philippians 2 2:12 and 13, therefore my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence, but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. So, inherent to that is yeah, you know, we must go to war against our sin nature, but also God is working and we have to work. Yeah. Right? So, God is working. He's giving you this, you know, this heart that's telling you, "Hey, I got to stop doing this. I got to stop, you know, watching this. Like I'm I'm aiding in human trafficking by even watching this." But then I'm doing something where I'm I'm having sex with myself, which is outside of the covenant of marriage, and so that like that's that's not good. And so now it's like, "Okay, God has worked in you. Now you got to do some work. You you have to change the way your mind goes and change the the habits that you have." >> Mhm. >> So, other thoughts on 12 and 13? >> Well, I mean, I I feel a little convicted to share this. Uh so, my sin of choice what long ago was actually pornography as well. Uh and uh I actually, you know, in to that point, alone, bored, whatever. I had been Stacy and the girls had gone out of town for uh a horse show. And, you know, first couple nights I was fine, and I just third day I was like just under attack. And I asked, "Hey, anybody want to come over and just hang out with me for the evening. I need somebody." And Ryan Horn came over uh and helped me through that. Uh and yeah, we had some debates there, too. >> [laughter] >> We always debate things. >> We had some debates there, too. We had a few We had a few whiskeys, >> [laughter] >> um, and you stayed with me for several hours, and I will tell you like my like I was just weak that night. I missed my kids. I missed my wife, and just having somebody come over there and help me through that, it meant the world to me. And I argue just to keep your mind off of other things. [laughter] >> Is that what you think? You have to argue with people for all the time? >> I just do it for you. >> [laughter] >> I mean, I I I said thank you that night, but I really I really do thank you for it. >> No, and I I was happy to be there. I didn't know I was there for that until we talked about it later, but, you know, I was just Man, you know, I I get being home alone, you know, I don't I don't know if I I deal with what you deal with as much, you know. Um, I mean, we're men, and it and it's a hard thing to to look at, but No, man, that's why you got to be there for your brothers, cuz you never know what they're going through, you know. >> Yeah, I mean, that's possible stuff. >> Yeah, it's just like I was just happy to show up. I was actually free that night, and I was just like, you know what? I'll go hang out with Jake. We'll probably argue about things, you know, but hey, he needs you there. >> He will give me expensive whiskey when he when you come over. >> Yeah, he [laughter] will give you a really good whiskey. You gave me the King's >> I'll let you have some Yeah, King of Kentucky. >> King of Kentucky. It was good. >> That's a >> Caleb and I didn't even get an invite. >> No, you all did. YOU DID. >> [laughter] >> HE HIT UP EVERYBODY on the text chain. >> Can't come. Can't come. Can't come. I'm busy. >> I'm busy. Hate you, Jake. Have fun struggling. [laughter] I was like, I'll be there. >> And I cracked open a bottle of $2,500 whiskey and let let him in. >> I was [laughter] predestined I was predestined to drink that. >> SPEAKING OF PREDESTINATION. >> [laughter] >> OH, MAN. >> I love you. >> No, go ahead. Go [laughter] Wait, y'all don't want to debate all of sudden? >> No. >> I was told that everybody always says, "Hord, you're predestined to do that." And it took me a while to figure that out. >> [laughter] >> No, it didn't. You got it immediately. But, I mean, I think that >> [clears throat] >> this entire section of of Paul's letter, he's he's basically keeping the same things cuz again, we have to remember that this was a single letter. Chapter and verse was added way later to make, you know, Bible reference and Bible study a lot easier, Bible memorization easier. But, he's really he's putting a finer point on his overall argument about what happens to us when we receive justification. Because he's already set up who we are in Adam, who we are in Christ, and then when we are in Christ, how that changes us and changes our relation to everything. >> And I I feel like when I reading when I was reading six and even seven, it's like he's setting us up to he's setting the struggle up. That even even through Christ, we're still going to struggle in sin. And we're definitely going to talk about that in seven. But, he's setting up that first part of Romans 8 with with six and seven is what I saw. >> Yeah. >> I like that I mean, Paul uses the imagery of a slave over and over again. Um and you kind of think back to like, all right, think about like Civil War when they were liberated from slavery. In a certain sense, they would know they were liberated, but like do you really know you like would they really feel that? Would they really know that? Like how long would it take to actually penetrate the consciousness of that person before it led to change behavior? >> Mhm. >> And then to to act like you're free. >> Yes. >> Right? >> That internal battle. >> that's the >> Yes. >> That's the deal was like before we were justified, before we knew Christ, we didn't have a choice in the matter, right? We were just we were enslaved to sin, you know? So, that's the whole deal. And I think that's what from 6:1 to, you know, certainly where we are now and through chapter six, it's talking about the freedom that we now have. But we don't live that way. We don't believe that that is true. >> It's >> I'll go ahead. >> No, you go ahead. Good. >> He'll like I noticed in six and he'll do it again in 15 in the beginning of six. He has he has rhetorical questions. Like what then? You know, what then? So it's like he'll throw out you know, um I don't know if we want to go into 15 just yet, but I'll go back to the six one. What shall we say then? Are we >> go go ahead and read 14 and 15. >> Are you Okay. >> Yeah. >> So For sin will have no dominion over you since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means. So he he asked these rhetorical questions. It's like, all right. So now that we're not under the law and we're under grace, does that still mean that we can sin? And this brings up the cheap grace that I talk about that Bonhoeffer talks about that I actually went through. It's like, man, I'm not under law anymore. I believe in Christ Jesus. So you know, this is who I am. I can do what I want to do. You know, my sin's covered by this and it's it's sort of a cheap grace. And so he's actually going out against people who think like I thought and says, what then? Are we to sin because we're no longer under the law but under grace? By no means. Like because we are no longer slaves of the law, we're now slaves of righteousness. And righteousness um and and Sproul brought this up. How many people want to talk about being righteous or talk about righteousness? >> Not in today's day and >> Nobody. You know, cuz there's a >> self-righteous attitude that comes along with it. And it's just like I don't feel like we're seeing in in the modern day church of a talk of righteousness. And and Sproul kind of brings that out. And so I have >> modification, seems like. It's not really the the attainment of righteousness or whatever. >> What what what what what did Mark say? I I love I laughed hysterically when he said it, but it's a mild-mannered pastor teaching mild-mannered people how to be more mild-mannered. >> Right. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Well, we don't >> We don't want to talk about righteousness, but do we ever really even talk about sin? Like, do I talk about oh, my sin of of saying something I shouldn't have said. No, I say I made a mistake. >> Yeah, we're mistake-ers, not sinners. >> We make mistakes. We don't you know, we're not sinners. And it's just like, well, we take away sin and we take away righteousness, what do we have? >> Well, and then we we talk about we use like the struggle. We really trying to do this or I'm struggling with that, right? But at the end of the day, we have we have freedom now and the only reason that we sin is because we choose to. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, well >> And so >> I >> It feels like Caleb, when people say stuff like that, if it and I don't mean this to be funny, it feels like mental masturbation. So, what what I mean by that is they're like, okay, I know I have to say something for myself here, so I'm going to try to like get them to feel bad for me, feel compassion towards me. >> Right. >> So, man, I'm really struggling with this right now or I'm, you know, I'm trying to get some victory or however Christiany you know, you want to make the language. But as I say all the time and it you know, it's worth repeating, it's if you actually struggled more in that area, you would have more victory. >> For sure. >> Man, I'm really struggling to eat right and stay in shape. It's like, okay, you know what it requires to be in good shape? Struggling. Right, cuz it's a constant struggle, but the same thing spiritually as well. >> Yeah, I mean, it's akin to like the you know, you ask a guy how he's doing, he's like, really busy. >> Yeah. >> Like, well, no no >> What does that mean? >> You know, it's like >> All right, both of you are talking about me now AND I'M >> [laughter] >> ALL RIGHT, DO WE NEED to talk about what your chair did in Sunday school? >> Oh, man. >> Did I miss that? I missed that. I missed this? >> Yeah, you missed it because you were you were being holy, taking care of your kid or something like that. >> Um, and so uh so there [laughter] there are a few chairs so in our in our in our in our Sunday school room, which has way too many people in it. So, if you are one of the people in our Sunday school listening to this right now, I'm talking to you. Please leave. Please find another [laughter] class. Uh we have way too many people in here. So, that is my PSA. But anyway, so we're all at So, there's one person at the front, you know, at the podium or whatever and then it's just a bunch of round tables. Well, if you put eight people around a round table, well, obviously there's going to be four or five people who are constantly going to have their back turned to the speaker. >> Yeah. >> But we're packed in like freaking sardines cuz there are too many people there. And if you're listening to this right now, I'm talking [laughter] to you. Find another class Find another church actually. Go somewhere else entirely. Get out of here. >> They're getting good expository preaching. >> said it was fine. He said it was fine. I I checked with him before >> Kyle's excommunicating people right now. >> Get out of [laughter] here. A flat. A flat. Right. Uh but then I So, you have to when you're in some of these seats that are, you know, your back turned, the it's usually fine if the person presenting just presents the whole time. But where it becomes a massive issue is if the person will talk for about 5 minutes, and then they send it to the tables for discussion for 5 minutes. Talk for 5 minutes, send it back to the table. Well, that was this morning. >> Constantly shifting. >> but the thing was is since we're all packed in, you can't like easily, you know, just like, "Oh, I'm going to shift my my chair real quick." And these aren't swivel chairs. These are just the folding chairs or whatever. And so, Jake was in that horrible position He was in the worst spot. He was right in the middle of the room. >> Stacy picked our table. >> tables. [laughter] Lady Winkler set him up for this. And so, so he the first time he does it and like cuz obviously he's very subtle like he's very quiet. You can't He doesn't You don't really notice him physically when he's in the room. He doesn't have his own gravitational pull. >> [laughter] >> None of those things. And so, the first time he needed to turn his his chair around, he just stands up right in the middle of this guy talking because he couldn't like, you know, shift. And so, everyone thought he was about to make a declaration >> like or >> or something like that. [laughter] But all he was doing was turning his chair around. But when he sat down in his when he sat down in his chair >> [laughter] >> cuz it's one of those folding chairs that's kind of padded, this chair was hanging on for dear life cuz he sits down and THIS THING GOES >> [laughter] >> WHAT DID YOU WHAT DID YOU SAY IT SOUNDED LIKE? >> WELL, I DIDN'T SAY IT immediately >> [laughter] >> because I thought this was a one-time thing. But when every 5 minutes I'm hearing AS HE'S [laughter] SITTING DOWN AND HE TURNS AROUND. I WAS LIKE, "JAKE, YOU SOUND LIKE an 18-wheeler or like [laughter] whatever it's like breaking or the airbags or [ __ ] in there or whatever." >> Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime. I'm transforming. >> [laughter] >> That doesn't happen when everyone else sits down, Jake. >> I'm sorry, man. >> Is his chair saying uh >> Oh god, we're doing this again. >> I don't [laughter] I can't be doing this again. >> It's exhaling. >> Here he goes. >> All right. Here he goes. >> You've been choking THAT CHAIR [laughter] OUT. >> BUT JAKE, YOU SAID YOU said you know you're you're on the path, you're on the journey of being less people, >> I'm trying. >> like [laughter] of of being >> I'm trying. >> What does that mean? >> I'm old. >> I don't lose weight as fast. No. >> No, no, no. >> You know what I think it is? >> What? >> Lady Winkler keeps you buried in chocolate chip cookies. That's what I think. >> So so Lady Winkler is a great cook and I pretty much eat what she gives me. She actually will She will fix my plate for me. Um >> Oh my gosh. >> I know. >> Oh, so you're a big baby. >> Well, >> golly. >> You know, >> I'm just jealous. >> uh she Is she [laughter] going to be downstairs >> There's for dinner to get She makes sure your plate's ready. >> No, I mean I will. >> We'll find out in about 10 minutes. >> I come home. [laughter] I mean I've never asked her to do it. She said she wants to do it and so she loads up my plate and I mean I just I have this happy plate disorder >> Mhm. >> uh that >> Did your grandma tell you that, too? >> No, my not my mama did. >> Finish all your food. >> [laughter] >> My mama told me >> Finish all your >> It helps them somehow. >> I will help everyone else have a happy plate as well. >> But she she she'll make my plate for me. So like I actually eat pretty I mean I eat healthy like for lunch and then you know, I eat whatever she makes for for dinner, but she kind of loads me up and I have stopped eating late, which that was good advice. Helped you uh cuz I would you know, I I get bored and need something to do and I'm like let's eat. >> What does late mean? What time do you stop? >> Well, now >> Yeah. >> it's after 8:00. >> Yeah. >> So I won't eat after 8:00. Um but you know, I do work out 4 to 6 times a week and I am doing a lot more cardio, so But, I've noticed I've noticed like, you know, 10 years ago Jake did this and like stuff just melted off and it's not happening anymore. >> That's true. So, [laughter] that's a real thing. >> Perhaps it's the plate that is being prepared for you that and >> She should just be like I mean Stacy will make like pancakes in the morning and I mean they're delicious. >> [laughter] >> Bro. >> I mean Well, they're not big. They're like that big, but yeah, she'll but they're like oh, they're protein pancakes and I'm like awesome. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. Yeah, they have more grams of sugar than they do have grams of protein, so But, yeah, you know, >> the syrup. >> If we [laughter] can just >> I'm starting to wonder like what's your life insurance policy? >> Hefty. Hefty and there's several. >> She keeps giving you a plate of big food. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, I think protein, eat it all. >> So, are you are you scared of your wife? Is that what we're what we're saying because you're scared to tell her like hey, let's maybe not put as many things on the plate or maybe change the menu a little bit? >> No, I I look at that my wife does a very loving thing for me. She She cooks for me and then she fixes my plate. I'm a very, very lucky man. >> I I I do want to bring this up real quick. >> Yep. >> And like >> And if it kills me early, I'm completely okay with it. >> This kind of >> [laughter] >> You will die happy. >> This will make us laugh because we know, you know, but she feeds you those big plates, which makes me laugh, yeah, but then she doesn't want you to run on a treadmill. >> She doesn't. >> Yeah. >> Well, [laughter] why? >> She So, when I work out, uh again, I I feel like I have the most loving, caring wife on the planet. Uh when I work out, so I'm I have a garage gym and it's it's full-on gym. These guys have seen it. I mean, it's it's it's got a lot. And she will come out and check on me after about 25 minutes out there to make sure I'm not dead. >> [laughter] >> She came out I mean, she would she came out the other day and I'm running on the treadmill and she goes, "Are you okay to do that?" And I'm like, [laughter] I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm doing >> WAIT. WAIT. WHY WHY? WHY WAS she checking on you? >> Cuz she's worried I'm going to die. >> Cuz she's worried [laughter] he's going to have a heart attack from working out. >> Wait. I think I have a different explanation. I have a different explanation. I think she's in the house and she can hear the rumble and the thunder [laughter] going off outside. freaking existential battle between [laughter] you AND THE TREADMILL. >> SHE'S ACTUALLY checking on the treadmill. >> Yeah. She's like, are we going TO HAVE TO REPLACE THIS TREADMILL? [laughter] >> I'M CREATING another storm shelter out there. >> That's what I think it is. That's what I THINK. >> OPTIMUS PRIME IS FIGHTING SOMEBODY. >> HEY, IS SHE AVAILABLE? HEY, can we Hey, we've already FaceTimed Lady Horn before. Can we FaceTime Lady Winkler real quick? I want to ask her for clarification on what >> I think she's at a baby shower, but I mean I have no problem >> This might be worth it. This might This could be This could be a yes or no game fail or this could be amazing. [laughter] >> call us back during the next like like a FaceTime. >> She could. We could set this up, but let's you know, just for it since we're rounding to a close here, let's just kind of see if we got it. >> FaceTime? >> We FaceTimed >> Yeah, I'm I'm trying here. >> All right. >> She's [laughter] going to think I gave you a heart attack now. She won't. She loves you. >> [laughter] >> Hello? >> Hi, Stacy. How's it going? >> You're on the show, honey. >> set [laughter] up. >> Hey, Lady Winkler. Uh we have a question. Um I'm putting you by the microphone, so you're going to be staring at my hairline there for a little bit. Um so, Jake told us that when he works out in the in the garage gym, when he's on the treadmill, that you go out there to check on him. Now, he says it's because you love him and because like you just want to make sure he's okay and has enough water and all those things. My contention and my guess is because when you hear the artillery going off with [laughter] every step on the treadmill, you're worried if he's uh trying to go down to the center of the earth. And [laughter] so, uh we got a little bit of an unstable connection here, but uh if you can hear me, what is the the reason exactly for uh you going out there to check on him. If you had to admit it to the entire world listening right now. >> The entire world? I just like to just check on him [laughter] and see if he's like you know, ARE YOU OKAY? >> [screaming] >> ARE YOU BREATHING? >> [laughter] >> I'M A FORMER NURSE AND I JUST I just want to check on him. >> She [laughter] just loves him. See? >> Just a quick check. >> So it has nothing to do with the sound of You know the elephants from Lord of the Rings with the big [laughter] tusks and all that and how they stomp along the valley. Has nothing to do with that sound. It's just out of [laughter] the goodness of your heart is what you're saying? >> Well, out of the goodness of my heart, our garage is detached from the house. >> [laughter] >> Do you still hear it? Do you Do you still hear it though? >> For sure. >> Oh, she can't hear it. She says she can't hear it. Okay. >> [laughter] >> All right, well >> feel it. >> Lady [clears throat] Winkler, thank you so much for your time. I'm going to let you go back. Yeah, he is alive. Just so you can do a wellness check. He's right there. There's Jake. Okay. >> We are going >> going to take care of him. Okay. You know what I think that was? I think she was she could sense that we were trying to throw you under the bus there and she [laughter] was like, no, I'm just going to go for it. I'm going to go ahead and say there is not a snowball's chance in hell she doesn't hear what's going on out there in that detached garage because that is on the same plane of earth. AND SO >> [laughter] >> YOU THINK SHE CAN'T HEAR YOU LAUGHING RIGHT NOW? OF COURSE SHE CAN. OF COURSE she can. >> She can feel it. >> She can feel it. >> WE SHOULD HAVE ASKED WHEN YOU HAD MARK on the program. >> [laughter] >> We should ask Mark, have you ever heard a guy randomly laugh >> Oh my gosh. >> and see if he's like, yeah, that's Shay Weckler. >> [laughter] >> I mean, when he when he did the Uh [laughter] well, stifled some giggles there. >> You you know what I'm talking about. >> Dude, it froze me. >> [laughter] >> Okay, so I So, we'll we'll end with this story because So, one thing that's that's kind of awesome is our Sunday school class, which Caleb, for whatever reason, he's just a derelict and decides he doesn't want to be a part of but one of these days one of these days >> I still like you're very welcoming. >> Bro, I'm going to I will trade 10 I will trade 10 families for the Martins. [laughter] I will tell you that right now. So, we'll bring them in. >> It's a numbers game, right? >> going to name the families now. Okay, [laughter] now I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm not going to name the families. But so >> I'm on that. I'm on board. Yeah. >> Get out of here. Uh, so one of the cool things about our class is we don't have a single teacher, right? So, we don't have the burden falling on the one person's shoulders or two people. We have a rotation of eight or nine guys, you know, maybe that that will teach. And so, you know, we'll have some people that will teach, you know, half a dozen, maybe 10 times a year. But I'll I'll get up there, you know, I'm trying to do that more cuz the class wants me to teach a little more. But Ryan will get up there a few times a year. I'll get up there a few times a year. And so, we have a nice little rotation of people coming through, you know, Adam, Zack Todd, you know, the other people that you've >> [clears throat] >> that you've seen. We will get up there. >> Jake's gone up there. >> Yeah, Jake's been up there before. And so, what I'll do is I will >> [laughter] >> Yeah, that's true. >> It was a very Catholic >> So, one thing that I I didn't realize there was one day This was a couple years ago. I gave a presentation and Zack Todd actually came up to me afterwards. He goes, "Hey Kyle, that was that was actually really good. I think that could be like one of your talks." I'm like, "What do you mean?" He's like, "You know, like on your website, you have like under your, you know, book me to come and speak at your event, you have like here are some canned talks that like I can give like right now on different subjects." And I was like, "Oh, I actually I guess I could." And so, I went and put it on the website. And so, when I teach, I typically make it an outworking of something that I've either done on Undaunted Life or The Daily Blade. And then I try to make it in a way to where almost like it's almost like a test audience where it's like, "Okay, if this is going to be edifying and helpful to this Sunday school mixed group of, you know, half women, half men, you know, with some tweaks and some changes, this could be a 60-minute, 90-minute presentation to a room full of men, which is typically what I book for. And so, when I do that, I try to have notes, but not a whole lot of notes, because when I'm super strict to the notes, I feel like I can be a little bit like uh like a little bit too regimented. I need to have a little bit more flow. I need to have fun, especially cuz the topics I talk about can be a little rough, can be a little heavy. And so, there has to be some levity that's brought in, and that's only there if I can kind of flow and just kind of feel what's going on in the room and joke around and do that that kind of thing. And so, I'm teaching on uh uh the concept that is in our dominion program of standards over goals. And I was like, you know, goals are fine. Like, you know, having goals and all that. I'm not super anti goal setting. I just think that having standards are better, right? That's one of the pillars of the dominion program. And so, I say that, and then I'm just [clears throat] flowing, right? And I remember cuz Jake's kind of over off to my left, and I did not know what was coming. But basically, I go, "Hey guys, most people think, you know, you know, as a man, they think they suck because maybe they suck at goal setting. Like, maybe they're one goal setting session away from like not sucking so bad." And then I just go, "You know what? You don't suck because you suck at goal setting. You suck because you suck." And like, I say that, and I paused. Jake >> [laughter] >> completely loses his mind. Like, he starts laughing so loud >> [laughter] >> to where everyone in the room, they they thought it was funny, too, but they were laughing more at Jake's reaction to what I said than my actual joke. And that was the moment that I realized that like he had this this laughter that just it can't be contained. It can't be tamped down, any of those types of things. And so, I think similarly, if he were to be running on a treadmill anywhere in this neighborhood, I feel like it would be reverberating like his [laughter] laugh all the way here. You just have that in you. >> I'll warn you I'll warn you next time I'm on it so you guys can >> [laughter] >> check the Richter scale. >> is somebody pounding on the floor table? >> It's the Richter scale. >> No, what we're going to do is we're going to get it'll be like Jurassic Park. We'll get [laughter] a GLASS OF WATER AND then we'll just wait and see and we'll just KIND OF SEE IT GO THROUGH. All right, well, shout out to Lady Winkler. We're so happy that she made her her first appearance on the show, but we need to leave it there. But guys, come back here next week. We will start with Romans 6:16. Romans 6:16.
