0:51 I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:53 Let's get into it.
0:55 Welcome back to the forging table of the mission of Undaunted Life is equipping men to push
0:58 back darkness with content that forges spiritual, mental, and physical resilience.
1:02 So at the forging table, you'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience
1:06 by digging into God's Word and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with
1:09 us.
1:10 That's Russell.
1:11 That's right.
1:12 That's Ryan guys.
1:13 We're digging in to Psalm 22.
1:14 And here's the thing about Psalm 22.
1:15 And this may be like a good time to just kind of tee you guys up that if as long as you're
1:18 not driving because you know, you can hurt yourself.
1:20 But if you're listening to this right now in the last week or so, you've read Psalm 22
1:24 a couple of times, go ahead and hit pause and then go and read Matthew 27 a few times
1:30 because the connections between Psalm 22 and Matthew 27 are astonishing.
1:36 And as I was reading, I was just writing in the margins, I was like, Oh, are all these
1:39 references to Jesus?
1:40 Because I wasn't sure they were, but I was like, I'm pretty sure they are.
1:44 But then just by the time you're done reading the 22nd Psalm, because it's somewhat lengthy,
1:47 you're like, Oh, this is, it's all there.
1:49 It's all right there.
1:51 But I really want to go right from the beginning.
1:52 So this is a psalm of David.
1:54 And by the way, when it says that in the, in the top where it's according to the dough
1:57 of the dawn, when I was reading, they were talking about like maybe the key that I was
2:01 being sung in or something like that.
2:02 So I guess there's not like a big time significance to the word dough there.
2:06 But even just the very, very first verse here, guys, we could camp out on verse one for the
2:11 entire time, but we know we will have to move along.
2:13 But it's my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
2:16 Why are you so far from saving me from the words of my groaning?
2:20 And so if you've been in, in the Christian world for any length of time, that should
2:25 sound very, very familiar to you because those are the words that Jesus spoke on the cross.
2:30 And something that we were talking about off air just before we hit record is we're so
2:34 dumb and modernity.
2:36 We don't need to know how to do math because we have a calculator on our phone.
2:39 We don't need to remember who won, you know, this particular war because we can just Google
2:43 it real quick.
2:44 But back in this day, you just didn't have copies of these, you know, Old Testament books
2:51 just sitting around typically, and you didn't have a bunch of them.
2:54 So there was a lot of memorization at that time.
2:56 And so the significance of Jewish people hearing Jesus say these words on the cross there.
3:03 They had to thought like, that's David.
3:04 That's what King David said.
3:06 And so it's very, very interesting.
3:08 But right from the beginning, just brutal desperation, like the level of desperation in
3:13 what David is saying there, it certainly echoes Jesus on the cross, but it's like, you know,
3:19 it's just lament, lament, lament for the first 21 verses and then the last 10 verses
3:24 or so are praise.
3:25 The man, it was just like heavy from the very beginning and Zack Todd.
3:30 This is his favorite song.
3:31 Another guy.
3:32 He's not here to defend himself or even talk about his favorite song, but it's like another
3:35 new Christian just just like you, Zack Foster to where it's like, I almost feel like this
3:40 would scare me if I were a new Christian because it's like, gosh, David was like, God's dude.
3:45 And look at how much he's lamenting.
3:47 Like it's just a crazy depressing place to start the song, you know, well, it's a good
3:51 thought that it's encouraging that David has been put on the throne by God.
4:00 Like you're saying, he says guy, but in David's worst moment when everybody's coming at him,
4:06 he has the steadfastness to go to the Lord.
4:12 And it's just a testament to always going to prayer, going to God, no matter what's coming
4:17 against you, it's just, you know, it's just the toughest time for him throughout his life,
4:23 probably.
4:24 It just, it was a good reminder to always go to God.
4:29 I look at those words and, you know, and I think of Jesus on the cross and then I think
4:32 of David and David thinking that God has forsaken him.
4:38 You know, when you read about God, usually, how do you want to say it, disciplining his
4:46 people via breaking their covenant, they always say he hides their his face from them or turns
4:53 away from them.
4:56 God probably had every reason to turn away from David and forsake David, and David knows
5:02 that.
5:03 But when you look at Christ on the cross and he says that, he says that after he takes
5:06 on the full cup of wrath and God has to turn his head from him.
5:11 And I think that's just like a sobering thought of like, man, how many times do we cry out?
5:16 God helped me with this or God, you know, why is this happening?
5:20 And when Christ sat on that cross after being beaten, it was because God had to turn away
5:25 from him because of our sin.
5:26 I just, I find those words like the most sobering words in this chapter.
5:32 I mean, again, just a really rough place to start whenever you're, you're reading through
5:38 something like this because of the significance, but also the weight.
5:42 And I mean, I don't know about you guys, but when you read about David and who he is and
5:48 how Jesus comes from his line, like we have no corollary to this because like, do you ever
5:54 quote something that your great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather
5:58 said and how it's, you know, we're corresponding to the most significant time in his life and
6:03 the most significant time in your life, like we don't really have a corollary like that.
6:08 But but again, it just, it just does foreshadow the suffering that had to take place so that
6:12 we wouldn't have to suffer.
6:13 Right?
6:14 Like that's the story of the gospel ultimately.
6:16 Yeah.
6:17 So, you know, they ran to your point, I think so many times, you know, we cry out to God,
6:24 right?
6:25 But we look at this and it's just, it's so small in comparison to what Christ really did on
6:31 the cross and, and to your point, it's very sobering.
6:35 And I know that, you know, I sit there and I think about, you know, when I think of Christ
6:40 on the cross and, you know, him saying these words, I also think about him in the garden
6:44 with 70, you know, you know, sweating blood and just, you know, you know, telling God
6:49 that, hey, if, if this cup can pass, let it, but if not, you know, your will be, your will
6:54 be done, right?
6:55 Just having that kind of resolve and he had perfect resolve.
6:59 I mean, he was holy.
7:00 He had perfect resolve in that and just looking at my own life, like where can I have the
7:04 resolve, you know, at least in some outs, you know, getting to be in that Christ like
7:10 this, right?
7:11 And that's kind of, for me, those pictures always stick in my head and then it's looking
7:15 at my own life.
7:17 And knowing that, you know, I think in America today, Christianity is easy.
7:23 And man, and I hate that.
7:24 I mean, you know, it's weird.
7:26 It's weird to want to wish for things to be harder in some respects because I'm so thankful
7:33 for what we do have.
7:35 And I think we take it for granted.
7:37 But we just, we just don't realize how easy we have it and how we, you know, nominalize
7:43 and just make things just too easy.
7:47 And so, yeah, you know, it's funny.
7:50 I actually think of Zach was telling me, you know, not that long ago, he went to a trip
7:55 in Israel with some people from our church and he was just saying how rocky it was there.
7:59 He was like, dude, I can't imagine we're in sandals there.
8:01 Like, yeah, I mean, yeah, and so I'm just like, man, how easy our life is just walking
8:05 around the neighborhood.
8:06 I don't believe it.
8:08 Yeah, it's just every hillside is just littered with boulders and rocks and yeah, it would
8:13 have been incredibly difficult to just walk anywhere around the city, Galilee or anywhere
8:17 up and down the Jordan River or around the Dead Sea.
8:20 It just turns into desert down there, but up north by the Sea of Galilee it is.
8:25 So do you think it changes the style or even the presence of our lament that we do live
8:30 in such a cushy time?
8:33 Because so to them, Zach, that wasn't rocky.
8:37 It was just walking.
8:38 That was, you know what I mean?
8:39 It was like they weren't walking on these, you know, perfectly paved roads and, you know,
8:43 perfectly even floors all the time.
8:44 Like their entire life was spent basically using their stabilizer muscles to not fall
8:48 over.
8:49 Like that's basically what they were doing.
8:51 But it's almost like when you hear people that go to these really, really, really poor
8:54 parts of the world and they see these people that are so unbelievably happy.
8:58 Part of is because they don't know what they're missing, whereas like in a community like
9:01 ours.
9:02 They know exactly what we're missing because we can see it.
9:06 There is the physical manifestation of somebody's level of income by the car that they drive,
9:12 by the, you know, garage, which is a house for their car that they park it in, the vacations
9:17 they go on.
9:18 And yes, there are people that have debt that are being flashy, but to a degree, you can
9:20 only flex so much before the gig is up.
9:22 And if you've been doing it for decades, you're probably, you're probably balling out of control
9:25 and good on you.
9:26 But again, we that those, those people don't understand what they're missing, but we also
9:31 don't have to pray the prayer, give us a stare daily bread.
9:34 And so I guess to get back to my question before I went off on my own little soliloquy,
9:38 like this, doesn't that change our lament because like, when I'm reading through this,
9:42 I don't recognize a lot of this in me because it's like, we get, we complain, it's a little
9:47 cold in our house because our, you know, our heater is not working exactly properly.
9:53 Yeah, I think that's, that's exactly right.
9:55 I think our lament is minor, I mean, it's, it's, we, we don't really have that burden
10:04 that, you know, David was experiencing, I mean, you know, I mean, it's all chased after this
10:07 guy.
10:08 He was living in caves and I mean, he was, you know, there was, he had some real trouble.
10:12 And then obviously, you know, nothing compared to the crucifixion and leading up to the crucifixion,
10:16 the, the beatings and, you know, the kind of what this first lays out kind of line by
10:20 line of what would happen to Jesus.
10:22 And so, yeah, I do, I do think, you know, for us, it may make us, we need to be a little
10:28 bit more callous, a little more hardened and just be like, man, you know, this is minor.
10:32 I need to kind of pull myself up.
10:36 I need to stop complaining.
10:37 I need to, you know, toughen up whatever you want to call it in some respects.
10:41 But, but I also think it, you know, going back to it, and also, you know, David cried
10:46 out to God.
10:47 And I think that's what we need to do.
10:48 I think we need to be okay, like we can't be so tough that, Oh God, I don't need to
10:52 take this to God.
10:53 I, I need to, you know, you know, even if it is small, but if it means something to us,
10:58 I think we need to go to God and we need to really try and, you know, be transparent
11:02 with him.
11:03 I think it's so funny when people are like, well, you know, God knows everything.
11:06 Why do I need to pray?
11:07 Or why do I need to do anything?
11:08 Man, that's so much for you that it is, you know, for God.
11:12 And so, you know, you need to do that so that you can get closer and to have greater community,
11:17 community with God.
11:18 And so, I think it's really important for us to lament and to praise and to do all that's
11:24 experienced in this song.
11:26 I think when it comes down to lament, though, is what are we lamenting about?
11:31 You know, are we lamenting our own issues?
11:35 Are we, are we lamenting our spiritual issues?
11:38 Here's, we talked about lament and, and minor things.
11:42 I mean, yes, we live in Edmond, Oklahoma, in the United States of America.
11:47 I'll give you guys a story.
11:49 I was getting a basketball hoop put in for our son for Christmas.
11:54 And the guy that was doing it, hit my main water line, cracked the pipe, water spat out
12:00 everywhere.
12:01 And so they tried to makeshift it and I was still leaking and it was still leaking and
12:06 it was just wearing on me that this pipe was leaking, like, you know, is it going to bust?
12:11 It's cold outside.
12:13 What are we going to do?
12:14 You know, I'm just in my mind thinking worst things possible and I blow up at my family.
12:20 I blow up on my kids and my wife, you know, I'm like, they're complaining about putting
12:25 tomatoes in their taco salad and I'm like, there's other things to worry about here.
12:29 You know, I'm like, I've got this pipe, blah, blah, blah, blah.
12:33 And my wife's like, why don't you go take a step back?
12:35 And so I went out and I lamented that I lament about that pipe.
12:38 No, I lamented to me as a father and as a man and as the spiritual leader of my household,
12:45 how I lost my faith and letting God handle this and took it out on them.
12:52 I lamented that fact.
12:53 I didn't lament the pipe, but once I lamented that fact, the pipe was nothing, you know,
12:59 the pipe was nothing.
13:00 And so I, how are we lamenting?
13:02 Are we lamenting about the pipe or are we lamenting about how we, how we were acting
13:06 in Christ image?
13:07 Well, I think, I think that's a good point, Ryan.
13:09 It does beg the question for me though, because I kind of keyed in on something that you were
13:12 saying there, Russell, and it's like, okay, we need to take these things to God.
13:17 So what does that mean?
13:19 And so because, because I'll say, I'll speak for me.
13:21 I won't speak for you guys, but I am curious.
13:23 There are things that seem so trivial to me that are bothersome that they're very bothersome.
13:28 But I'm like, I'm not going to bother God, but that one, like, but it's like, no, no,
13:33 bring your burdens to me, like, you know, I can carry this weight for you.
13:37 But I'm like, no, I, it's almost, I treat it like I've got one meeting a week with my
13:41 manager, and it's like, I don't want to talk about the scent of the soap in the bathroom
13:46 that slightly bothers me when I wash my hands.
13:48 Like, I want to talk about things that are going to lead to me getting promoted and getting
13:51 paid more money.
13:52 Like those, those types of things.
13:54 So I guess whenever you say, take these things to God, let's get down to like brass
13:58 tax, they're like, what does that mean, because I think that directly correlates to lament.
14:03 Yeah, obviously, I think there's some discernment in how you come to the Lord in your praying
14:10 and in just in your speaking to them, right?
14:13 I mean, for me personally, prayer looks different.
14:19 I mean, there are different aspects of the way I pray.
14:21 I mean, I may actually be praying in petition on someone's behalf, right, for my family
14:26 or for some friends or for missionaries or whatever that may be, that I may be in for
14:31 supplication, right?
14:32 Praying for myself, praying for some specific things, whether they're, you know, work related,
14:37 maybe they're some stress related things, dealing with my family, et cetera, but then
14:41 there are also those things that are just nuances of life that I think are immoral.
14:48 And I don't know that I necessarily need to be asking for God's provision in those, but
14:54 I can talk to him in a conversation about like what is going on in my life, right?
14:58 And those things will come up.
15:00 But so when I say take them to them, I think it's more in the conversation as opposed to
15:03 a, please change the sentence in the bathroom.
15:06 Like, you know, it's like, man, today was rough and I blew up my family and I did this
15:11 and this.
15:12 And man, that's stupid soap.
15:14 That's got me angry too, Lord.
15:15 Like, just, I mean, I think that's the conversation that I want to do with the Lord, right?
15:20 And I know for me, and I'm a talk out loud, think out loud kind of person, which sometimes
15:27 makes you sound really dumb, but that's just how it goes.
15:30 And so I do that and I do it with God too.
15:34 And my kids have caught me on more than one occasion to hear you talking to my, I'm just
15:37 kind of talking to myself or talking to God, like I'm just, yeah, I'm talking to myself
15:41 from, you know, a lot of times it's me talking to myself, which ultimately is me talking to
15:45 the Lord.
15:46 But that's what I mean by that.
15:47 And I think we do have to have discernment in when you're asking the Lord for something
15:51 because you can go down a really slippery slope of like, oh, Lord will help me with this
15:56 and help me with that.
15:57 And he's going to provide.
15:58 I think you have to have discernment on is this making me more Christ-like or not?
16:03 And if it's not, that's probably conversational.
16:05 That's probably not a request.
16:06 Well, I have a conversational prayer to God right now that, Hey, Lord, you bless me with
16:11 one forging table.
16:12 But if you keep Chuck norcing the table while we're talking, I'm going to have to replace
16:15 them for a while, like, come on, man, let's just hit him with your elbows from now on.
16:20 We can get after it.
16:21 No, but like the point is well taken because, okay, have you all heard about people that
16:24 have conversational prayers with God, like throughout the day, like not like it?
16:29 Okay.
16:30 That to me, I don't want to get too far off of Psalm 22.
16:32 So, so get me accountable.
16:34 That's weird to me.
16:35 Like, I know people that are like all day, they're in kind of this constant, you know,
16:40 back and forth, like tweeting, texting relationship with God and like every decision throughout
16:45 the day, like, do I go to this place for lunch or that place for lunch or should I go work
16:49 out right now?
16:50 Should I have this conversation?
16:51 I'm serious.
16:52 Like it's, it's just constant throughout the day as opposed to like, for me, I feel like
16:56 most of my prayers are really, really thankful.
16:58 I'm like, God, this is such a cool opportunity or God, like it makes no sense that that this
17:01 should happen for me.
17:02 Like, thank you so much for that.
17:04 Like, does that strike y'all as odd because for me, it's like, I don't think that there's
17:07 a problem with it, obviously, but it's like, it's weird for me.
17:10 It's weird.
17:11 I'm like, when I'm, I do a lot of driving for my job, so I'm on the road a lot.
17:16 So if I'm not listening to a Donta.life's podcast, I sometimes learn plug.
17:22 Is it a plug if it's on the podcast that people are already listening to?
17:26 I'm not listening to myself on the flooring table.
17:28 Yeah, here you go.
17:29 No, but when I, when I'm not done listening to something, I'll turn the, I'll turn the
17:35 radio down and I'll just talk to God, you know, I'm mostly out of praise.
17:40 Using him for the opportunities afforded me, praising him with the family that he's giving
17:44 me, lamenting certain facts, trying to figure out, you know, if I'm dealing with something,
17:49 you know, kind of like just dwell on him.
17:52 So I, I think that in a conversational aspect with God makes sense.
17:56 Now I don't, what I'm driving down the road, be like, Lord, should I go to hardies or McDonald's?
18:01 You know, don't really, don't really view it that way.
18:05 So I just find that, that part strange if you're going to ask him what like every decision
18:09 that you make, but there's been some tough decisions I've had to make and I've gone into
18:13 prayer for that.
18:14 But not for what I was going to do.
18:15 Well, if those are your only two restaurant options, you probably have some more lament
18:18 that you need to get out.
18:19 When you're in Kansas on the turnpike, oh, you've got his hardies and McDonald's.
18:23 That's rough.
18:24 Hey, we're back in the BB and J. Yeah, I got to get after it on your own.
18:28 Yeah.
18:29 Well, I guess like, so through the lens of you're like the, the resident, you know, new Christians
18:33 act.
18:34 I guess what is your relationship with prayer been like in the last few years because it's
18:40 like, I mean, you don't really need to do a lot of praying before you become a Christian
18:43 or at least you don't think so because you kind of have this, you know, country music
18:46 theology where it's like, I'm going to talk to the man upstairs and I'm going to just
18:49 thank you mayor for now and then blah, blah.
18:50 And like, that's kind of how we do it here in Oklahoma before you actually accept Christ.
18:54 But like your thoughts on prayer, how's that shifted and changed?
18:57 I'll say that before I was a Christian, you know, anything that's going on in your head
19:02 that you're talking about to yourself or going through different big problems, you're essentially
19:06 praying.
19:07 You just don't know who you're talking to or why you're talking to them.
19:10 But you're going through a situation or a problem and trying to figure it out and come
19:15 to a conclusion.
19:16 You're really consulting something, though you must be talking to the Lord.
19:21 Now that I've become a believer, it has been absolutely crucial and paramount in my lifestyle
19:31 daily to stay in conversation with the Lord as much as possible.
19:34 I'm not asking him where I'm going to lunch or any of that little rollercoats are all
19:38 day long because I'm not sure if that's how the Lord intended it.
19:44 But as Kyle knows, and maybe you guys know that I was in general contracting for myself.
19:49 So I was outside building fences cutting down trees and I would always be outside.
19:53 So I just we got in this habit of every time I saw the sun, every time the sun shine down
19:59 mirror, I looked at the sun, I would talk to the Lord and be thankful.
20:02 You're just so when you live in appreciation with so much love in your heart, you don't
20:07 have time for hate.
20:08 So I just found it very easy to always turn to to the Lord in most situations throughout
20:14 my day, depending on what it is and whatever situation I'm in to be able to get into prayer
20:18 because of living with appreciation.
20:21 And there's no problem, obviously, with having dedicated prayer time, like there are people
20:25 that are very, very regimented there, you know, they have trait consciousness and so it's
20:29 like, every morning at 545, that's when I start my, my quiet time, my Bible study, and
20:35 I will read this much and then I will move into prayer time and I will pray in this way.
20:39 And then there are people that are a little bit higher and you know, trait openness and
20:42 so they're a little bit more creative and they're going to kind of flow and that may
20:45 be the person that's kind of doing it throughout the day.
20:48 But again, if you can convene with the almighty, which we can, like, it's probably something
20:53 that you should do because it's going to help you as you as you kind of move forward.
20:56 Um, again, the first two thirds or so of song 22, there's, there's a lot of lament, but a
21:01 lot of references that cross reference with Matthew 27.
21:04 So verse one, you get that a Matthew 27, 46 verse seven, Matthew 27, 39 verse eight, Matthew
21:11 27, 43, but something caught me in guys, if I skipped over something you wanted to hit,
21:17 like we can obviously go back, but there was something that caught me in verse 10.
21:21 Um, I guess there's subtlety.
21:23 Okay.
21:24 So there's subtlety in what's happening, uh, in the Bible and when you talk about, so
21:30 we mentioned last week's episode, a red letter Christianity, right?
21:34 So there are people that like, you know, they value the red letters above the black letters
21:38 because that's the words of Jesus when it's like, look, dude, they made those letters read
21:43 so that it'd be easier for you to reference when Jesus was talking because if someone's
21:46 just referencing a scripture and it's right in the middle of a parable, the red letters
21:50 just kind of help you.
21:51 But if you believe in a Trinitarian view, father's on the Holy Spirit, all the words
21:56 are red letters because Jesus is part of the Godhead, right?
21:59 But verse 10 is on you was I cast from my birth and from my mother's womb, you have
22:05 been my God.
22:07 So I've used a lot of different references and a lot of different biblical references
22:10 as to why we shouldn't murder babies in the womb.
22:13 I've never thought about Psalm 22 10, but that's a subtlety there that what's going
22:18 on in the womb has importance and not just for the propagation of the species, but just
22:24 in general, because what's happening there is seen by God and is directed by God.
22:29 And it happened even before that moment, even before you were a you, right?
22:34 And so I think that's something for me.
22:36 And I think you said this last week, Russell, where it's like, you may have said it a little
22:40 bit earlier today, but it's like you've got when you start reading the Bible more and
22:45 you're reading, you're reading bigger chunks of the entire thing, you will see a lot of
22:50 these corollaries like connecting to one another and it just helps you with the worldview,
22:54 with morality.
22:55 I mean, last week, we spent a lot of time on politics and we don't really need to beat
22:57 a dead horse this week with it.
22:59 But the, the political nature, you're always legislating your morality, but if you don't
23:03 know where your morality comes from, you can easily be toppled over, but that just stuck
23:08 out to me.
23:09 Verse 10 is like, yeah, you know, from the womb and, you know, when you have kids, like
23:12 it's like, no, it was important, not now that they're five years old and going into kindergarten.
23:16 It was important since before the time you met him.
23:20 Right.
23:21 I feel like that, and correct me if I'm wrong, but that is at Jesus's birth at that moment
23:28 is when he became the begotten son, because in the beginning, though, the word was with
23:33 God and maybe the word was actually the begotten son before he was born at that moment, then
23:42 that's at a moment in time is when Jesus was became the begotten son.
23:49 And I think it was reference and commentary that listened to for Psalm two a while back.
23:54 But yeah, this, from verses nine and 10, yeah, so Spurgeon said, he's written over a little
24:04 bit of his commentary and he said that the child that was fighting his greatest battle
24:10 of his life uses the mercies of his nativity as the argument with God, faith finds weapons
24:17 everywhere, even, or he who wills to believe shall never lack reasons of believing.
24:27 And I just love that quote that if you are a believer, you'll never lack a reason to believe.
24:34 You bring up Spurgeon, which kudos for me.
24:38 I saw some election in there.
24:41 What do you guys see?
24:43 Oh, you're the guy that sees election no matter what you read, if you're reading a menu at
24:48 a restaurant, go ahead and make your point as opposed to trying to lay a snare for the
24:51 rest of us is snare.
24:53 I didn't see abortion in there, but I see your point in that.
24:56 No, I just I see that you are my God, even in my mother's womb, or even in my mother's
25:01 womb, you are my God.
25:02 That means God chose him from the beginning.
25:06 So I see election in that, are we really going to do this election argument again?
25:11 We've done this like seven times already, and this is like a new version of the show.
25:15 I'm just pointing out right.
25:16 All right.
25:17 You know what?
25:18 We haven't heard Russell or Zach talk about election.
25:20 So here we go.
25:21 I'll just put the mic away so you guys can argue about it.
25:24 Go ahead.
25:25 Election pass pass.
25:27 We got one pass.
25:28 It's all in you, Russell, man, it's stuff for me because I think it's it's probably something
25:35 post, you know, Jesus is coming, second coming or my death, that I fully understand free
25:42 will and you know, election, but you know, I I believe that the Bible speaks very clearly
25:50 about chosen people.
25:51 I mean, obviously these are lights were chosen people and the New Testament speaks to chosen
25:56 and obviously this verse speaks to chosen some election.
25:58 And so, you know, I do know that God has it all for known in his knowledge.
26:04 I don't know what that looks like, but I also know that as an individual, you know, I self
26:10 discovered, you know, I had to self discover, you know, and upon his opening my eyes, the
26:18 truth of the scriptures.
26:19 And so I can't reconcile either of them, to be honest with you, you know, I'm on the fence
26:24 and I'll stay on the fence probably till the day I die.
26:27 But all that said, I think what this shows is just God's handiwork in the all the history.
26:35 Right.
26:36 So before and after.
26:37 Yep.
26:38 Guys, if you're wondering, if you're not watching this on YouTube, he is still banging
26:41 on the table.
26:42 He just he got he loves election and debating so much.
26:46 He's just you remember the power team we knew we know a guy about our team, right?
26:51 So you're like breaking deals of glass or whatever.
26:53 Have you ever thought about joining power?
26:54 I'm going to give you I'm going to give you a funny story to this.
26:56 That's great.
26:57 Yeah.
26:58 It might be on the power team.
26:59 Okay.
27:00 So I think in college, you have to do like a communications class, right?
27:01 Okay.
27:02 You have to give us speech in front of everybody.
27:03 I'm terrible public speaking.
27:04 I don't know why you have me on this thing, but in public speaking, especially and I talk
27:10 with my hands, which is why I'm being the table.
27:12 I'm trying to I'm literally trying to sit on my hands over your people, but so the thing
27:16 I did then standing in front of people instead of sitting was I would always like pull my
27:20 sleeves up.
27:21 No joke for the first couple, I had a long sleeve shirt and I would pull my sleeves
27:26 up and up and you know, keep screwing with them.
27:29 The last time the professor asked me to wear a short sleeve shirt, so I wouldn't do that.
27:33 And I still figuratively tried to pull my sleeves up.
27:36 I'm telling you, man, I'm you can't break me.
27:38 We sure have it.
27:39 Oh, oh, dog.
27:40 Can't you can't teach me new tricks.
27:41 Well, Zach, you got a new job like you're you're just going to like slide your hand each
27:46 time you like you just slide it and like you're the buffer in between the funny thing about
27:50 that is if anybody's been in sales in this audience, you've probably done some, you know,
27:54 talking about and thinking about like nonverbals, like typically when people do self touching,
27:58 which is like where they they're not itching their forums on itching, but they just keep
28:02 scratching their forearm.
28:03 You can tell they're uncomfortable with what they're about to say and everything like
28:06 that.
28:07 It's just like kind of like a little nervous tick thing.
28:09 But to go back around to the grenade that you dropped in the middle table, Ryan, have
28:14 we sufficiently talked about a lecture?
28:15 Do we need to waste the next 45 minutes talking more?
28:18 I think we're good.
28:19 I was just sure.
28:20 Are you sure?
28:21 Are you satisfied?
28:22 And it just made me think of that.
28:24 But really when I look at the verse, I really see about how, you know, God is God is the
28:30 provider and we're just the babies that need the provision that a baby needs from its mother.
28:37 So I wouldn't I don't want to get too deep into that because those nuanced people might
28:42 take that into the same realm as our old friend from the past.
28:47 But yeah, but no, I think what he's basically saying is we're babies in regards to where
28:55 we're at and we need nourishment and then God is under it.
28:59 When again, for him again, he spends the first 20 or so verses like almost like trying to
29:04 come up with different ways of describing just how wrecked he feels.
29:10 But for my money versus 14 and 15, that's where I was like, all right, this dude is wrong
29:15 completely out.
29:16 So 14 and 15, I am poured out like water and all my bones are out of joint.
29:22 My heart is like a wax.
29:23 It is melted within my breast.
29:26 Verse 15, my strength is dried up like a pots, pots shirt, what the heck is that?
29:31 And my tongue sticks to my jaws.
29:33 You lay me in the dust of death like I've been sad before, like I've been downright,
29:41 you know, downtrodden, you know, I've been melancholy.
29:44 I've never felt like my tongue sticked like stuck to my jaw and that I was playing in
29:49 the dust of death.
29:51 I've never been there.
29:53 And so part of it could be like, all right, David, we get it.
29:56 You're belaboring this point, but it's like, again, he's pointing to something because
30:01 there's a big shift coming in verse 22 where he's going to be shifting into praise gear.
30:05 But man, 14 and 15 really for me, I was just like, because, you know, I'm kind of pulling
30:10 out the, you know, the crucifixion language and all the different things that were happening
30:13 on the cross.
30:14 But that for me, that was probably the roughest part of any of these Psalms that we've gone
30:18 to right now.
30:19 That was like a laments lament.
30:20 Yeah, it tries to just belabor it where it's kind of starting to relate to Job's story
30:27 where everything is going wrong and he still stays faithful.
30:30 And David here, yeah, he's just trying to basically feel like make the reader understand
30:39 that this is by far the worst time of his life.
30:42 Well, I think it's something to look at too, is, you know, the foreshadowing of Christ
30:46 and what's happening before the crucifixion.
30:47 I mean, can you imagine what Christ is going through at this time when he's being beaten?
30:51 Thorns put on his head, you know, he's thirsty to give him vinegar, you know, dogs encompassing
30:59 evil doers and circle me.
31:00 They have pierced my hands and feet and I count all my bones.
31:04 It's just the foreshadowing of what he's about to take on that David is feeling, you know,
31:10 lamenting to God that he feels like he's gone through and, and, you know, seeing what God's
31:17 going to do in the end now with the praises.
31:20 So obviously this goes back to what you were talking about earlier, Russell with, you know,
31:26 you're taking your problems to God, whatever that means to you.
31:28 And however you try to do that and prayer and different things like that.
31:32 I didn't really think about this until now and it seems obvious now that I've kind of,
31:35 you know, turned it over my head a couple of times.
31:37 It's like, okay.
31:39 God was forcing David to go through this so that he would say this so that it would be
31:45 written down and so that hundreds and hundreds of years later, a rabbi in the Middle East
31:52 would would say these same words and it would connect for everybody.
31:56 This is one of those times when you talk to like Orthodox Jews or people like that and
31:59 it's just like, where do you see the disconnect?
32:03 Because there are so many prophecies that are fulfilled in the person of Jesus to an extreme
32:07 degree, so much to boggle mathematical minds, right, just because of the sheer odds of him
32:12 being able to take care of a lot of these boxes and check them.
32:16 But I guess that's for me where I try not to be so grandiose if I'm suffering or if I'm
32:20 going through a hard time, but it's like, what is God trying to get me to understand?
32:26 But also it may not even be from my understanding.
32:29 I may just need to go through this and talk about it and tell people about it.
32:33 Maybe record a podcast about it or write it down or something like that.
32:36 Because the lessons not for me.
32:38 Think about this.
32:39 I mean, hundreds of centuries and centuries and centuries go by before literally the spark
32:46 that ignited this whole thing turned into an absolute fire that consumed the entire planet.
32:51 And so I guess that's I don't know if that's comforting or scary that it's like, hey, you're
32:55 not maybe going to go ahead and go ahead.
32:58 It's comforting for sure because you're understanding that it's all in God's timing.
33:03 Every year going through in a moment could be the Lord working it through for next week
33:10 or somebody else who's in your direct path.
33:12 And however the Lord's using you, but now, yeah, we look back and see that Jesus teed
33:20 this up for himself.
33:21 He put it in to David to have these words written down to have this in the Psalm a thousand years
33:28 before Christ would even be born and then on his deathbed, essentially, you know, on the
33:33 cross he uses as he's meditating on scripture on the cross is so beautiful for me to read
33:41 that and understand that to when I'm reading through that these verses, it was I was thinking
33:47 about Christ and on the cross and not David and whenever he thinks he's going through because
33:50 like what we just said, it was God using this in David's time to directly affect what happened
33:56 on the cross and how profound that must be to Israelites at the time who are not believing
34:04 in Christ and his ministry, but to have all these references to the Old Testament from
34:11 hundreds or thousands of years before should be profound to you that you can understand.
34:16 Oh, yeah, he's quoting David and that was written so long ago, you know, how does he
34:20 know all this?
34:21 You know, Jesus would have had to have every Old Testament book written out and in his
34:26 back pocket to fulfill all these hundreds of prophecies throughout his, throughout his
34:32 ministry that it just, it blows my mind and you're trying to explain it to non-believers
34:37 all the time in our day, you know, they're like, oh, well, you know, how Jesus know this.
34:42 I'm like, yeah, you're either saying that Jesus was the smartest guy that's ever lived
34:45 and he put together the greatest manuscript of lies or you start to understand that it's
34:50 all prophetic and that he must have put out all this content through other prophets throughout
34:57 history and lived it out.
35:00 You know, it's just, it was beautiful for me to read through these, this scripture and
35:04 to put all that together.
35:06 Yeah, I mean, I think the whole of Psalm 22 is beautiful in the sense that, I mean, just
35:15 what it represents a thousand years later.
35:18 And so, you know, I mean, Jesus would have known the scriptures, verbatim, we've had
35:23 a lot of it memorized, right?
35:24 So, you know, obviously the pain that he experienced on the cross, you know, in crying out to
35:30 God, I think is profound, but then what's even more profound for me in these things is
35:35 right.
35:36 They wagged their heads at him, they divide his garments.
35:39 These are Roman soldiers who were doing this, right?
35:41 I mean, you know, Roman and Jewish, you know, people who, and then the crucifixion itself,
35:45 crucifixion didn't exist in David's time, it was not a thing, so piercing their hands
35:49 in their feet.
35:50 Why would he have said that?
35:51 And then I actually, one of the commentaries was saying that he was actually saying that
35:54 in the, in the sense of the dogs, because when the dogs bite you, they're piercing, right?
35:58 And so he's speaking of it from a whole different context, but it's so prophetic and it's nature.
36:03 And, and that just, you know, blows my mind to be thinking about how those minute details
36:09 Christ.
36:10 And, and I think for those who are, you know, maybe in your audience who are not, don't
36:14 know Jesus is their savior, are looking at this and thinking, man, is the Bible real.
36:19 I mean, here it is.
36:20 I mean, this is as real as it gets and it's so profound for me.
36:25 And again, I think what we're talking about, one of the commentary said this and I just
36:29 think it's so true.
36:30 It says, no known incident in the life of David fit the details of the Psalm.
36:34 David used many poetic expressions to portray his immense sufferings, but these poetic
36:39 words became literally true of the suffering of Jesus at his enemies hands.
36:44 And I just think that's so good.
36:45 I mean, you, you said it right, Carlos, you know, he was, you know, belaboring this point
36:51 of man.
36:52 This is so rough.
36:53 I'm in such a rough spot.
36:54 But he's inspired by the spirit to speak it in such a way that it exactly is fulfilled
36:59 by Christ.
37:00 When I, so you're talking about verse 16 for dogs encompassed me a company of evil doers
37:05 and circles of me.
37:06 They have pierced my hands and my feet.
37:08 And then, you know, I can count on my bones, you know, Ryan, what you were talking about.
37:11 But yeah, to us, you know, 2000 years after Christ, we here pierced my hands and feet.
37:17 All you think about is the crucifixion.
37:19 Right.
37:20 That's all you think about.
37:21 But yeah, I didn't even think about that Russell, like that had to have been perplexing
37:25 to the people that were reading this and David today.
37:27 That's like, did David just make this up?
37:29 Like this, you were attacked by dogs, bro, you killed a bear and a lion like with your,
37:33 with your bare hands.
37:34 So what are you worried about a dog for like some wild dogs?
37:37 And so that's an important thing.
37:39 It's like, it's there for a reason, but you don't always kind of know the reason.
37:43 I know we're going to be going over a psalm here probably next week, or we'll get more
37:47 into that.
37:48 But again, as I alluded to earlier, there's that big shift in verse 22.
37:53 So you can maybe read into this or not.
37:55 Two thirds of this song are lament and then one third is praise starts with lament ends
38:00 with praise.
38:02 Now, when people say things like praise while you're in the storm for a guy like me, just
38:08 to be honest, I'm very pessimistic.
38:11 The sky's typically always falling and it works for me because it's always like have
38:16 low expectations and then always be shocked by the level of excitement you'll experience.
38:20 You know what I mean, as opposed to having these super high expectations, and then you're
38:24 letting yourself down all the time.
38:26 But again, that's just kind of how I'm wired.
38:28 And that's how I operate.
38:29 And that's how I've been competitive.
38:30 And that's how I've just kind of gone.
38:32 The praise in the storm thing is really hard for me because when I get mad or if I'm really
38:39 struggling with something, it's almost just like the last thing I want to do.
38:43 And this came up even here recently, you know, with my wife and I, there are there are times
38:48 where it's like when I'm about to go do some Bible study time where that's like put the
38:53 phone away, turn all the notifications off like when I'm about to do that or when I'm
38:56 in the middle of that, we almost always fight.
38:59 There's always something and it's a nothing fight to be to be clear.
39:02 It's a fight about nothing, but we're mad.
39:05 And I'm sitting there trying to read the song and I'm just like, I just, she just doesn't
39:09 get it.
39:10 Like I obviously said the right thing.
39:11 And again, it's just like, it's just a little contagion that's just been put into my bloodstream
39:16 and now it's just moving all the way through.
39:18 And so I can't read this in any type of posture where I can accept it because I'm bad and
39:24 it's like Satan's all over those types of things. And so he's, it's almost like he's
39:29 keeping me from shifting from lament or in a less cool word, anger or just being a stupid
39:35 ginger to into the praise part to where it's like, but here's all these great things that
39:40 are happening.
39:41 So I don't know about you normal, well adjusted people at the table, but for me, like that,
39:44 that's rough, you know, to praise in the storm because I'm so worried about the storm whenever
39:50 I'm in it.
39:51 It's hard for me to praise.
39:52 Everybody feels like praise is something that you do after something good has happened.
39:57 So to praise in the storm is to skip the storm and to say that everything's already worked
40:01 out and you know, it's going to be good at the end of the movie, no matter what.
40:06 So to praise in the storm takes a lot of interpersonal reflection to be able to just switch gears
40:15 while you're in the storm and say, all right, I either need to look in the mirror, I need
40:20 to pull the log out of my eye first or look at it from a different perspective.
40:26 Because if you just let yourself keep going and you blow up at your wife or you act out
40:33 irrationally, that's, you know, when Satan was offering Jesus all the lands of the world,
40:38 if he would just believe in him, you know, that's Satan coming into your life in that
40:42 moment.
40:43 And if you blow up and you do those things, then that's you accepting all the lands from
40:47 Satan, you know, in a different kind of way, so I'll just always every situation in my
40:53 life.
40:54 I constantly am telling myself, look in the mirror, look in the mirror, Zach, because
40:58 it's got to be me first, I got to get out of my own way.
41:02 I think it just comes down to storms.
41:05 I don't think I've had storms in my life that have been kind of, you know, so crazy that
41:11 I need to find praise in it.
41:13 But I think that could do an interview you had with Tim Chalice and the storm that he
41:18 went through in the loss of his son and how he still praised and they still worship God.
41:23 And I hope to never find a storm like that.
41:26 But if I do have a storm like that, I hope I have the same resolve.
41:31 That was the thing with my interview with Tim Chalice and it was season of sorrow.
41:35 I think it was the name of the book, if I recall.
41:37 So his son died suddenly, just collapsed, died.
41:43 And he basically journaled for the first year of mourning the loss of his son.
41:49 I mean, I'm sitting there like I read it right over there.
41:51 I usually sit right there on the floor and read read my books.
41:55 And at the time I was reading that book, James was, he was two or was about to turn two and
42:03 we had a newborn, Elijah, two sons, and I'm just like, I mean, I'm just in a puddle for
42:09 most of the first part of that book because that's like, you know, right after the death
42:12 and then he starts getting used to the new normal, like he'll never be fully healed from
42:16 that really in terms of this earth, but you know, kind of his new normal.
42:20 And you put yourself into his story because that's what we do, you know, whenever we're
42:23 reading fiction or reading anything like that, like we put ourselves in the story.
42:26 What would we do and how would we react in those types of things?
42:30 And I was just astonished at his level of faith in that, man, this sucks, but it's going
42:36 to be okay because he got to meet the father before I didn't like it.
42:39 That's cool.
42:40 But I'm going to get to meet him too.
42:42 And it's like, again, when you're a negative person, you don't quite understand how something
42:47 like that's possible, like I still to this day can't understand the people I forget the
42:51 name of the church, but Dylan roof, a white supremacist walked into a black church.
42:56 This was years ago and kills a bunch of people because he hated black people.
43:01 That's why he did it.
43:02 Okay.
43:03 Anyone that says anything different, they're stupid and they're wrong.
43:05 He walked in there because he knew and he sat in the pews first in an all black church,
43:09 knowing what he was going to do.
43:11 And he was welcomed and he was, you know, he was embraced and all that.
43:14 And then he opened fire and killed a bunch of them 24 hours later.
43:19 They are because you can see the video of this go look it up on YouTube.
43:23 But one by one, the members of this church, the surviving members of this church who had
43:28 their husbands, wives, daughters, grandkids, slain by Dylan roof, one by one came to him
43:35 because there was like a camera where, you know, they could, you know, talk to this guy.
43:39 And they all said, we love you.
43:42 We forgive you.
43:43 We hope you turn to Christ like he's the only thing that can save you.
43:46 They're pleading with this murder that murdered their family members, please come to Christ.
43:52 And I'm just like, I'm going to be real honest, guys, like, you know, maybe you listen to
43:57 my words more than you listen to other people in your life.
43:59 I am not capable of that unless something happened to me in that moment, where, you know, Jesus
44:04 took the wheel.
44:05 Jesus took the words from my mouth and put his words there.
44:09 Like, and again, I don't know about for you guys, but, you know, even here in this area,
44:14 there was a former coach for the thunder whose wife was killed in a kind of a deniberated
44:19 drunk driving type situation and at her funeral, not only did he get up and address everybody,
44:25 not only did he show tremendous poise, and he said, Hey, all of you here are praying
44:30 for me and my family.
44:31 I'll need to pray for their family too, because their family lost a daughter as well.
44:35 They lost an aunt.
44:36 They lost whatever.
44:37 And I'm just like, man, I suck compared to these guys, like their level like Tim Challeys.
44:42 And I forget the coach's name.
44:43 Sorry, but I'd like to give him credit, but like, man, I don't know if it's different
44:46 for you guys.
44:47 Those things, it's like that that's really a gut check.
44:49 Like, do I have that in me?
44:50 It is.
44:51 It's a gut check because I'm a vindictive person.
44:54 I think that's something I struggle with.
44:55 You were elected to be that way, right?
44:57 You're predestined to be that, but yeah, it was predestined to be a sin that I have
45:02 to fight.
45:03 There you go.
45:04 I have to have to rely on God on, but I feel him changing my heart on a lot of things.
45:09 I don't hold that vindictive status towards certain things.
45:14 But probably some things more than others I mean when it comes down to like just poor
45:18 teaching or for bad theology, but it's something hard.
45:22 I mean, I don't know what I would do if my daughter was taken from me or if my wife was
45:26 taken from me or my sons were taken from me.
45:28 And I would just hope that Christ dwells in me, that I put all of my faith and hope in
45:35 the future in him to have what those people, to do what those people did because what they
45:41 did is beautiful.
45:42 And it's such a great picture of God that, you know, I don't have words to describe,
45:48 but then it's beautiful.
45:49 Yeah, it's really easy to say how is God working in this situation?
45:55 You know, what is God trying to get me to see through this through the death of a family
45:59 member through the loss of a friend through, like you were saying with the church and the
46:05 shooting, it's just how did that congregation come together in such quickness and be able
46:11 to understand like, how is God using this?
46:14 And it's to maybe that that guy, the shooter needs to come to Christ.
46:19 That's incredibly hard to understand for me, but yeah, that's one thing that I'll always
46:25 try to ask myself, like, what is God working in this situation?
46:28 And luckily, I haven't been directly affected with that type of situation, but we all got
46:34 to be ready for in life.
46:35 You know, life is very short and things can happen.
46:38 And how are you going to react?
46:39 Are you going to be steadfast or are you going to go to the Lord or?
46:43 I mean, I know I kind of an aside a little bit to that, not nearly to that extent, but
46:50 you know, something that, you know, an older gentleman who kind of pours into my life had
46:56 me start doing a long time ago that I do often on now that really is helpful is to write down
47:02 your prayer requests, you know, those, those prayer requests that, you know, you can see
47:06 you answered and then write a date when they were answered, write, you know, what the answer
47:11 was and a date.
47:13 And just doing that over time, you see the faithfulness of God, right?
47:17 Like numbers 2319 says, God is not a man that he should lie nor a son of man that he should
47:21 repent.
47:22 As he said, and will he not do it or has he not spoken, will he not make it good?
47:25 Right?
47:26 So there's this this faithfulness of God.
47:28 But I think we have such a recency bias, like my children yesterday was yesterday and
47:33 it was also five weeks ago too, like, like yesterday is yesterday, I mean, it's just,
47:37 there's this stupid and they only remember like five minutes ago.
47:40 And I think candidly we're the same way.
47:43 And so, you know, we just when we're in a storm, we don't remember what God already
47:47 did in our life, right?
47:48 I mean, the faithfulness of like, I mean, you know, a healthy child, the faithfulness
47:53 of, you know, our wives, the faithfulness of, you know, the things that we've been blessed
47:57 with, right?
47:58 And so doing that, right, I think practically is something that we can do as believers and
48:02 then something that, you know, I'm a realistic pragmatist probably.
48:07 In most of mine and Kyle, like you, I like to set low expectations and exceed them.
48:12 But then when I get down the dumps, man, it's hard to get out of the dumps because if you
48:15 set low expectations and you're in the dumps, you are really screwed.
48:19 And so I, you know, just like a little thankful journal, right?
48:22 So like every night trying to write one thing you're thankful for, and it becomes so much
48:26 easier to kind of realize, man, there are so many things that I can be thankful for.
48:30 And so I think sometimes it's, it's, there's just, you know, being practical about it helps
48:36 us.
48:37 Now when you're in a storm of losing us, losing a child or, you know, someone murders a family
48:42 member or whatever, those are exceptional seasons that I think really God is just stepping into.
48:48 But if you are, you know, your faith is being based on what you've seen over the last,
48:52 you know, decade of your life or whatever, I think can help you.
48:55 Well, there's a Christian apologetic through line to a lot of this as well.
48:58 So even Zach, kind of what you were talking about.
49:00 So it sounds really hard to say, but it's like those people in that church were murdered,
49:05 maybe so that Dylan Roof and others would come to Christ.
49:08 And I don't know this to be the case.
49:10 How many people watched the video of those family members talking to Dylan Roof and they're
49:14 like, oh, that's what Christianity is.
49:17 It's not hating gay people.
49:19 It's not telling me I'm not allowed to drink or dance in public.
49:22 Like that's, that's the gospel.
49:24 Holy crap.
49:25 The gospel, like, and for the first time ever, the gospel suddenly makes sense because so
49:31 when people, you know, use, use the thing, they're like, oh, you know, why do bad things
49:34 happen to good people of the apologetic where you can get into, okay, what do you mean by
49:38 bad?
49:39 What do you mean by good?
49:40 And you can kind of like go through the moral law argument.
49:41 But here's the deal is like, and you've seen people do this before where they draw a circle
49:44 and they ask someone, Hey, what is your knowledge of all the knowledge?
49:47 What is your understanding of all the things that can be known in the universe?
49:50 Like put a percentage on it.
49:51 Like you of all the knowledge in the universe, how much of it do you have?
49:55 And if they're honest, it's way less than 1% right?
49:57 So if you look at it in terms of a pie chart, you got this little bitty sliver of the stuff
50:01 that you know and understand and then there's everything else.
50:04 And so it's like, is it possible that the rape and murder of that young girl that there
50:10 is a positive that could come out of such a horrifically terrible story for everyone involved.
50:17 They're family members, the person that did it.
50:20 And I go back to whenever I visited Lewisburg prison and I'm sitting there interacting with
50:24 shaking hands with rapists, kidnappers, bank robbers, murderers, I know one guy for certain
50:30 had killed four people.
50:31 And here I am just sitting there chatting and having a conversation.
50:34 Well, he wasn't a Christian whenever he took those lives and he's going to pay for what
50:39 he did to those people for the rest of his life here on this planet because he's never
50:42 going to see the outside of that prison.
50:44 But he's in Christ's hands now and his name is in the lambs book of life and he was able
50:49 to redeem that situation.
50:51 So again, that may be a hard thing for the families of the forest lane people that that
50:54 he killed, but that's that's the gospel there.
50:58 And I think that's the thing that a lot of us miss.
51:00 It's kind of the thing that I said before, as you're reading the Bible, regardless what
51:04 you're reading, it's telling the same story at all points of the gospel of Jesus Christ,
51:08 every last bit of it, even if it doesn't seem like it, because here you are quote numbers,
51:12 it's like, I don't know a whole lot of people quote numbers, you know, walking around the
51:14 book of numbers that is for guys that aren't really paying attention.
51:17 Now before we wrap up here, again, the last 10 verses or so, you know, from verse 22,
51:23 all the way through the end of verse 31, it's all the praise portions.
51:27 Was there something in particular that stood out for you guys in that that that portion
51:31 in terms of, you know, turning lament into praise?
51:34 I just didn't want to sell anybody short on any of that because we covered it kind of,
51:39 you know, 30,000 foot view.
51:42 I just like the mirroring of the gospel in this, in that, you know, through the lament
51:50 that Christ went through, the lament that we go through, lamenting, you know, our earthly
51:57 problems compared to what Christ did for us.
52:00 I think it, I just like how it mirrors that there's praise in the end with Christ, you're
52:06 going to find redemption, I'd like to go back, you know, Psalms 2 towards the end there,
52:13 you know, that we talked about last week, you know, kiss the sun and that's what we need
52:19 to do.
52:20 We need to submit to the sun and seeing just kind of the correlation between this and
52:26 Matthew just kind of showed the, the, the beautifulness of the gospel.
52:30 Yeah, I think, you know, verse 27, 28, you know, this is all the ends of the earth.
52:35 I'm reading from the NASB, by the way, all the ends of the earth will remember and turn
52:39 to the Lord and all the families of the nations will worship before you.
52:42 But the kingdom is the Lord's and he rolls over the nations and just an extent of God's
52:48 reign.
52:49 I mean, it is in totality.
52:50 I mean, it is everything, right?
52:51 And I think, you know, we're here in, you know, small town of Oklahoma, no, that small,
52:57 but, you know, small town of Oklahoma, right?
52:59 Just a dot on this faith of this planet, you know, and, and it wasn't that long ago
53:02 that our church, you have a missions update and it was amazing to me.
53:05 There's three billion people who are unreached, right?
53:08 And just think about that.
53:09 I mean, that is, you know, like 40% of the population of this earth, right?
53:14 Don't have either any translate, Bible translated or even a Christian or a church in their
53:19 vicinity.
53:20 And so just thinking about that and being thankful that, you know, God's mission is to
53:26 cover all of it, to cover everyone and he covered everyone on the cross and he wants
53:30 to reach everyone.
53:31 So, this is just beautiful and I hope that, you know, people understand, you know, Christ,
53:38 what he did on the cross for everyone.
53:39 What about you, Zach?
53:41 Yeah, just the totality of what Christ did for us on the cross and what that offers is
53:49 the fact that there's only hope and faith and freedom are only offered through Christ.
54:01 And that's what I take away from Christ's work on the cross is the only way to experience
54:09 freedom in this life.
54:10 And I think in verse 26, that's the one that stood out for me, the afflicted shall eat
54:14 and be satisfied, the afflicted.
54:17 And so those are the people that are going through the storm.
54:20 So the afflicted, those who have lost their sons suddenly, those who have had a member
54:25 of their family that was raped, those who have had, you know, something that have physically
54:29 befallen them, afflicted shall eat and be satisfied.
54:33 But it's the next part.
54:35 That's the key.
54:36 Those who seek him shall praise the Lord, may your hearts live forever.
54:40 Again, you know, Psalm 34, 10, the young lions suffer one hunger, but those who seek the
54:45 Lord lack no good thing, again, young lions can take care of themselves in every way,
54:51 shape and form, but they will suffer one hunger at some point.
54:55 But it's only those that seek after the Lord that are seeking things that are in their
54:59 totality.
55:00 Good.
55:01 And so I think a great thing about Psalm 22 is to understand that there's not a lament
55:06 that is unknown to God and there's not a lament that is technically unique to you.
55:11 I mean, you're the only person like you that's ever been created, but what is befalling you
55:16 has befallen people before people from the line, you know, that produce the line of David
55:22 that that produced the Savior of the planet, but also anything that could go wrong.
55:27 I go to Job. I mean, we've had some real parts of our lives, guys, and rough parts
55:31 of our marriage and rest parts and business.
55:33 We've never been jobed. The dude became a verb. Like that's like, that's how rough his
55:38 life was, right? And so I think that's a great thing for all of us to remember. And there's
55:41 more to talk about here, but we're going to go ahead and leave it there. But come back
55:44 next Sunday, guys, where we will dig into Psalm 30. And that is going to be the last
55:48 song we dig into. And then we'll get into the next one from there. But guys, make sure
55:52 you read Psalm 30 and come back and be prepared for next week. But before that you go, we
55:56 are going to do a quick resilience boost add a don to life or mission is equipping men to
