0:50 This is Undaunted Life, a man's podcast.
0:53 I'm your host Kyle Thompson, let's get into it.
0:57 Welcome back to The Forging Table.
0:58 The mission of Undaunted Life is equipping men to push back darkness with content that
1:01 forges spiritual, mental, and physical resilience.
1:04 At The Forging Table, you'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience
1:07 by digging into God's Word, and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with
1:10 us.
1:11 That's Robert.
1:12 That's Eric.
1:13 That's Derek.
1:14 We got a nice crew with us today.
1:15 We're digging into Matthew 24.
1:16 We're going to go right into the scripture here because I want us to camp out on something
1:20 on verses 3 through 14.
1:22 But if you can just hit us real quick, Robert, with verses 1 and 2.
1:25 Jesus left the temple and was going away.
1:27 When his disciples came to point out to him, the buildings of the temple, but he answered
1:32 them, you see all these.
1:34 Do you not?
1:35 Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not
1:39 be thrown down.
1:41 So this is the foretelling of the temple that was destroyed in 70 AD.
1:44 There are a lot of people, and I don't really want to park here and talk about this much,
1:48 but there are a lot of people that are like, well, yeah, everything seems like a fulfillment
1:51 of prophecy.
1:52 When you know the ending of the story, and I'm like, yeah, that's the point of the fulfillment
1:55 of prophecy is you can't connect the dots, like looking backwards, like we have all the
1:59 dots now so we can connect them and kind of get an idea of what's going on.
2:03 But where I really want to camp out today, before I forget, I do want to mention crossway.
2:07 We are partnered with Crossway.
2:08 This is not an official commercial, but if you want to start your own forging table,
2:11 there's a stack of books that's on the edge of this table right now.
2:14 And if you're just listening to this, it is in the show notes.
2:16 It gives you a really good idea.
2:17 There's a Bible in there.
2:18 There's a devotional.
2:19 There's a journal.
2:20 There's a couple of other books, and we packaged it all together and I won't give you the full
2:23 long, long commercial here, but all the ways that you can buy that stack of books at a
2:27 hefty discount of half off is right there in the show notes.
2:30 You guys should check that out.
2:31 But Eric, I want you to go ahead and read versus well, actually, no, Eric, you're going
2:34 to be the one that's talking the most here in a second.
2:36 So Derek, if you would not mind hit versus three through 14, or for war, three to 14.
2:44 As he sat on the mountain of Olives, the disciples came to him privately saying, tell us when
2:49 these things, when will these things be and what will be the sign of your coming?
2:55 And the end of the age, and Jesus answered them, see that no one lead you astray, for
3:00 many will come in my name saying, I am the Christ, and they will lead many astray.
3:05 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, see that you are not alarmed for this must
3:11 take place, but the end is not yet for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against
3:16 kingdom, and they will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
3:21 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
3:24 Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated
3:29 by all nations for my name's sake.
3:32 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another.
3:36 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
3:40 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.
3:45 But the one who endures to the end will be saved 13 and 14 and the gospel of the kingdom
3:52 will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as testimony to all nations.
3:57 And then the end will come.
3:59 So this is the beginning of the Olivet Discourse.
4:02 It's very, very important in terms of its relation to how close we are to the cross.
4:06 But as soon as Hamas attacked Israel back in October of last year, there were a lot of
4:13 people that started drawing corollaries to in times prophecy.
4:17 Our pastor, Pastor Mark Hitchcock of Faith Bible here in Edmond, Oklahoma, everybody
4:21 asked me what church I go to.
4:23 Like I mentioned it about a billion times with Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Oklahoma,
4:26 Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Oklahoma, Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Oklahoma.
4:28 There you go.
4:29 Pastor Mark Hitchcock, he does a lot of work on end time stuff.
4:32 People ask me, when are you going to cover Revelation on the forging table?
4:35 And the exact answer is absolutely never because I have no idea what's going on in most people.
4:40 But at the very, very end, once we've gone through, yeah, when we got through everything,
4:44 but Mark Hitchcock and others have done a lot of work on that.
4:48 There were a lot of pastors that came out in October and November of last year to talk
4:51 about some of these prophecies and what they're connecting to.
4:54 And there's all this stuff and there's all this frenetic energy.
4:57 And all I kept thinking about I was reading through this this week was, man, do we have
5:03 men that are prepared for what's coming?
5:05 Because we know the end of the story, right?
5:07 We know who wins.
5:09 We know where we end up, right?
5:10 If we are the elect or if we have chosen to be a part of, you know, team Jesus, right?
5:14 But I just feel like a lot of men are very ill-prepared for this.
5:18 And so this morning, I'm walking through the lobby of my church and so I'm going to get
5:23 some, going to get some water so I can stay hydrated so I can get in here and, you know,
5:27 yeah, my yam are off through the entire time.
5:29 And I look over and I see Mr. Browning over there kind of sitting down and you looked a
5:35 little solid and downtrodden.
5:36 And if anybody knows Mr. Browning, you are one of the most upbeat, positive, calming people
5:42 that I've ever been around.
5:43 It's very annoying because it's like, I try to like get you a giggle, I try to get you
5:46 a little bit mad.
5:47 I try to flustering.
5:48 You just smile at me like, ha, ka, you little moron, but it's just like you're a very even
5:53 killed guy and you seem to have all your ducks in a row, but you looked visibly perturbed
5:58 this morning.
5:59 And so I just rent, you know, be like kind of what we were talking about last week.
6:02 It's like, hey, there's Foxhole buddy.
6:03 I don't know what's going on.
6:04 Like, I don't know if he's got a, you know, level 10 fight going on with his beautiful
6:07 bride or with one of his kids, like freaking out or something that's going on.
6:11 But I'll let you pick up the story from there because we ended up having a very good conversation
6:15 of a short one, but it brought me back to Matthew 24.
6:18 Yeah.
6:19 I mean, I was, I was very frustrated to, I, you still look frustrated.
6:23 Yeah.
6:24 Just talking about it.
6:25 Yeah.
6:26 Well, I, I help lead a Sunday school class called ABFs, whatever that means, truly, no
6:33 one knows what that means, but it was, I was super frustrated because about three or four
6:41 years ago, this class was run by four people and then it's down to one.
6:44 So my wife, I run this class.
6:46 And so man, I'm, I am all about delegation and I, I've got this whole idea of kind of,
6:51 we call it the Barzell buy-in.
6:52 I was like, you got to have some place in the class.
6:55 You can be helping because I mean, I can get you, we can get here and we can have a good
6:59 class, but we can have a much better class and I'm just not getting, I'm getting sares.
7:04 You know, um, it's crickets at times and I've got the, the faithful two or three that'll
7:09 do something, uh, when pressed and sometimes they don't have to be pressed, but they got
7:13 the rest of them that are just, man, it's just like, it's, it's super frustrating.
7:19 And, um, so yeah, so he, we were talking about that.
7:22 I mean, so my, my thought, you know, I don't know how deep you want to go into this, but
7:27 like if you're going to be a part of something, then you need to be find your place in it.
7:31 And I remember whenever we started, so Lauren and I, this is going off a tangent a little
7:35 bit, but Lauren and I started going to faith Bible church, but I was running a ministry
7:41 on the side through the navigators of meeting guys one on one, which is great.
7:45 Love that ministry.
7:46 But it became apparent that I needed to centralize my ministry.
7:49 So Lauren and I could have something together.
7:51 So we, we got involved with a, um, an ABF ascending school class at our church.
7:56 First thing I thought of when I, when I sat in there, it was like, what, what's my place
7:59 in this?
8:00 I can come and consume or I can be a part of and, and give to the class.
8:06 And so I sent a email to the leaders at the time and just said, look, I, we're happy to
8:11 be a part of this class.
8:12 I don't know where you have need, but we'd like to serve.
8:15 And here's a couple of areas, two or three areas where I feel like we could be of service.
8:21 And, um, so, and then that was it.
8:23 I mean, and the, and the guys came back and said, Hey, we want you to do this little father
8:27 son thing and let's roll with that.
8:30 Because in our class, we had a, about 30 young boys.
8:34 So anyways, my point being with that whole thing, what is what's frustrating is when you
8:39 come and you just sit and consume and then you leave, there's a loss of fellowship with
8:44 that.
8:45 Cause it's, it's not, you're not working as a church body and it doesn't matter whether
8:47 you're in the church.
8:48 If you're going to church, get involved in the church and if you're involved in a Sunday
8:51 school class, get involved in the Sunday school class, you know, be in a representation of
8:56 the church body by doing your part and having some sort of buy in.
9:00 So I want to camp here a little bit because I think this is especially important for men,
9:03 but just based off of what he said so that I don't poison the well at all.
9:06 I'm curious what Derek and Robert, what you guys think about what he said about, you know,
9:10 do you notice that?
9:11 Do you see it as well?
9:12 Just your, your overall thoughts on that, say it's convicting.
9:15 Yeah.
9:16 I mean, at times for sure, it's hard to get, I mean, it's hard to get involved, but what
9:20 is my place?
9:23 So yeah, going out and just asking, you know, our, our, our ABF Sunday school has been pretty
9:27 good about offering opportunities or asking guys help.
9:31 So I don't know, convicting and I've definitely been involved, but not as much recently as
9:37 I should be.
9:38 So one, that's one thing, Robert, you hold, hold your point real quick because, you know,
9:43 it's interesting when people talk about community, one of the most basic ways to be in community
9:48 is to be in the community with those people.
9:51 Yeah.
9:52 And so you can preach about, hey, community is important.
9:54 It's important.
9:55 It's important.
9:56 But if you don't show up to Sunday school, like you're not in community with those people,
9:59 that is the most basic level of interaction is just showing up on Sunday morning and being
10:03 available and being around people.
10:05 And then there's all the ancillary stuff and extra stuff that happens after, you know,
10:08 you know, going to individual homes or gathering with a few people or even going on vacations
10:12 or helping people out here or there.
10:14 But just your presence is a present like an, like I literally mean that because sometimes
10:18 you're a calming force, sometimes you're an incendiary force in a good way.
10:21 And so that that's just one quick thought there.
10:23 But Robert, what do you think?
10:24 Yeah.
10:25 Yeah.
10:26 I think what used to be the 80/20 rule is now the 90/10 rule, you know, I think that, you
10:29 know, 90% of the work, unfortunately, the church is getting done by 10% of the people.
10:33 You know, I mean, it's just we've become more isolated.
10:37 We become more distant.
10:38 We don't want to open up.
10:39 We either have more struggles that we don't feel like we can be transparent with other
10:42 people on.
10:43 And it's just caused us to be in the habit of just suppressing everything and being,
10:49 you know, not wanting to dive in and go deeper with others.
10:52 I think our ABF or, you know, does a really good job of really plugging in.
10:57 There's a lot of, a lot of guys that are outgoing and that will draw those that aren't outgoing
11:01 into action.
11:02 And I think it takes that, you know, and so how do you do that in a form of leadership,
11:07 you know, how to exactly do we get an opportunity to be able to know how to inspire somebody
11:12 and then it just gets exhausting too, when you're doing it all the time.
11:14 How do we want to inspire those to be able to come in and be a part of a group, investing
11:18 the time to be able to grow deeper relationships, but yet at the same time, don't do it so much
11:23 that you run them off or you get exhausted in the process because nobody else wants to
11:27 dive deep either.
11:28 Well, and I mean, I get your point with, you know, 90, 10 from 80, 20.
11:33 I feel like it's 98 to or 99 one because it's like we default to the professional Christians,
11:38 right?
11:39 Oh, we have a pastor for that.
11:40 Oh, we have a ministry budget for that.
11:42 Oh, we have a committee of people that do that.
11:45 And so when so many other people are doing things, I'm kind of reminded, I forget who
11:48 told me this may have been you, Eric, but it was like, uh, people that work in old folks
11:52 homes or something like that, whatever your patient, if you're one of the nurses or employees,
11:56 whatever your patient can do for themselves, you make sure they do that for themselves.
12:01 Cause the moment you take that away from them and start doing it for them, they're, it's
12:04 like the atrophy.
12:05 And you know, that same credit, the, this, this common theology that we have or philosophy
12:09 that we have of like the pastor can do that.
12:11 I think what it is that's even more prevalent is the women do that and the men don't.
12:16 The women are the ones that are going to get together on, uh, you know, a Friday night
12:21 and they're going to go out to dinner.
12:22 The women are the ones that are going to get away for the weekend and they're going to
12:25 spend time together.
12:26 The guys, it's my job to sit at home and make the money and focus on how to be able to protect
12:31 my family and keep them provided for and keep everything functioning.
12:35 And then I'm just going to isolate myself and binge entertainment.
12:38 You know, that's, that's the way that I grow is I binge watch entertainment.
12:41 Right.
12:42 Yeah.
12:43 And I, you can tell me if I'm wrong, it's just my thought.
12:45 It's like, well, if we are believers, we should be moving in a direction of being coming
12:50 more sanctified and becoming more sanctified.
12:54 We should be bearing more fruit and that fruit should be coming more on more naturally.
12:58 And if it's coming on more naturally, then it should be natural and an outcropping within
13:03 our circles of influence, whether we're going to church or whether we're in a Sunday school
13:08 class or whatever.
13:09 And I don't, I don't get it.
13:11 I don't, I think I maybe I get it.
13:13 I mean, I know we get busy.
13:14 I know that I'm about to run into baseball season.
13:16 We're at 40 somewhat games and right now we're doing basketball.
13:20 I get, I get all of that, but, um, but I don't, so I don't know if it's a, if it's a sheer
13:24 busyness thing or if it's a margin thing and I can't think about another something else
13:28 or whatever.
13:29 Yeah.
13:30 I don't know.
13:31 He had me thoughts on that.
13:32 You know, speaking of the natural, you know, you're talking about the natural thing.
13:35 You know, if we're looking at, um, just getting your butt out of bed and waking up early to
13:39 go to the gym, you know, I mean, it is such a struggle.
13:42 If you don't do it consistently, but there does come this point where it's natural.
13:46 It's like to not do it, no matter how tired I am, I'm going to think so little of myself
13:52 because I've created the habit that it's then a natural.
13:55 And I think so many guys aren't getting up and diving into Sunday school.
13:58 They don't want the whatever that is.
13:59 And so they're never creating the habit.
14:01 They're not doing anything difficult ever in any circumstances unless it's a have to thing
14:06 like dealing with my kids, dealing with the old battle acts, but when it comes to the things
14:10 that you choose to do, and I'm going to destroy the name of this, but I was listening to a
14:14 Huberman podcast a while ago and I was talking about the mid-singulate something cortex or
14:19 whatever.
14:20 Well, it's the part of your brain that after fees, if you don't do things that you don't
14:24 want to do.
14:25 So I mean, I may have said that wrong, but let's say let's say you hate waking up early
14:28 and working out and let's say tomorrow rolls around and you sleep in.
14:33 That part of your brain will shrink.
14:35 But if you wake up and do that thing that you don't want to put on my shoes, I do not
14:39 want to go to the gym.
14:40 I don't want to do it.
14:41 And then you go and do it.
14:42 That part of your brain will actually grow or strengthen, right?
14:45 And so they see this in people to where it's like, it's not about waking up that one time
14:50 and getting up early when it was cold and putting on your shoes and going to the gym.
14:53 It's about doing that every freaky day of your life, but as men, as modern men, we don't
14:59 think of those terms.
15:00 We think in terms of comfort and plugging jiu-jitsu just a little bit.
15:03 For me, my five alarm, if I am alarm every day, Monday through Friday, I get up and I
15:07 go to jiu-jitsu and there's not one day that I get up and want to go and people don't understand
15:13 that because they think, oh, you love it.
15:14 It's like, no, I don't love it at five.
15:17 You certainly don't.
15:18 That's right.
15:19 From five thirty seven o'clock in the morning.
15:20 That's exactly where we're at.
15:21 Around good reps, everything across the board.
15:24 But when I leave at seven o'clock, there's not one day I've looked back and regretted
15:29 not getting up.
15:30 There's not one day when I look back and go, man, the next hour or sleep would have been
15:34 fantastic.
15:35 Right.
15:36 Well, and I literally had a moment like that last night.
15:37 There was a UFC last night and, you know, y'all are hearing this a little bit later.
15:41 It's probably warmer now, but whenever we were doing this, it was like 12 degrees outside
15:44 and we were watching it in like in a metal shop, not exactly the best place to be comfortable
15:49 and warm.
15:50 And I thought to myself, man, if these fights go long and I was kind of looking at the fight
15:53 card and I was like, there's not a whole lot of finishers here.
15:55 I think these fights might go long and they did.
15:57 I didn't end up leaving until about one in the morning after the main event ended.
16:01 But before even deciding that whether or not I would go, I thought to myself 80 something
16:06 your old Kyle dying in his bed and looking back, I'm not going to look back on all those
16:10 times.
16:11 I got a couple extra hours of sleep.
16:12 It's just never going to happen.
16:13 Like we're going to be making memories.
16:14 But go ahead.
16:15 You want to.
16:16 Oh, man, I was just thinking of something you said the other day, you know, my son started
16:19 wrestling not too long ago and says first year doing this.
16:23 Let's go.
16:24 Let's go.
16:25 Super green.
16:26 You know, and I was thinking about the guy that is starting from zero.
16:29 You know, you guys are, you guys have been doing this for a long time.
16:32 You get it.
16:33 It's like you said, it's just a natural thing, but there are guys are going to be starting
16:37 something literally from from nothing.
16:39 And that's kind of what my son is doing and I like what you said, Kyle, cause I was like
16:44 Kyle, he hadn't won any matches and you were like, Oh, no, no big deal has he, he's scored
16:49 any points.
16:50 You know, and it's like, Oh yeah, he scored a point.
16:52 That is awesome.
16:53 That is so awesome.
16:54 You know, cause it's just a, it's a small step in the right direction.
16:58 And I think about that, I, I didn't really love the book, but I appreciate the book.
17:02 Atomic habits of becoming 1% better every single day.
17:05 I like that concept.
17:07 You know, it's not, you have to be able to do it all at one time.
17:10 You just build upon, build a block and then build upon that block and keep pushing for
17:14 it.
17:15 And compare yourself to yourself.
17:16 Yeah.
17:17 That's right.
17:18 Compare yourself to where you were.
17:19 Yes.
17:20 That's right.
17:21 Peter's.
17:22 Yeah.
17:23 It's good.
17:24 I mean, to, to that point, so you would bring up like one of my least favorite books ever.
17:25 I know.
17:26 I know.
17:27 I know.
17:28 Now, but there's something, I think it was chapter two of that book where it's like winners
17:29 and losers have the same goals.
17:30 And so I was like, yeah, you go to a Jiu Jitsu tournament or wrestling tournament or whatever.
17:34 It's like, everybody wants to win and only one person gets to win.
17:36 So these, you know, goal setters like, Oh, if you don't set a goal, you're not going
17:39 to win.
17:40 It's like, well, you can set a goal and still lose.
17:42 And that's kind of the thing.
17:43 But it's like that, that really is the point.
17:44 It's compare yourself to who you were yesterday.
17:46 And some of you, you know, we've gotten a lot of new listeners here recently.
17:49 So this is going to be a repeat story.
17:51 And yes, it's another Jiu Jitsu story.
17:52 Sorry.
17:53 Deal with it.
17:54 But this was at the very tail end of my white belt days, right?
17:58 Or the very beginning of my blue belt days.
18:00 And so you're, you're, you're basically a fawn that can walk for the most part without
18:05 falling over.
18:06 That's how dangerous you are.
18:07 Right.
18:08 So not very dangerous at all.
18:09 I have a bad practice.
18:10 I get smoked by everybody.
18:12 And I'm brooding, right?
18:13 I'm brooding in the locker room.
18:14 I'm taking off my shirt with attitude and I'm just, and, but I'm not saying anything,
18:18 right?
18:19 Well, Tyler Murrah, who is a world champion, he wasn't a world champion at the time, but
18:23 like very soon after that, he became a world champion.
18:26 The guy that at that time I rolled with more than anybody, he had been my main professor
18:29 or my main teacher at that point were about the same size, but he's, you know, was like
18:33 seven or eight years beyond me or whatever.
18:35 And so, um, he walks in the locker room and he doesn't say much ever unless he's coaching.
18:40 If he's not coaching, he doesn't really talk and he sees me brooding, pounding like a little
18:44 girl.
18:45 And he's like, Hey, what's going on?
18:46 And I'm like, I just had a bad practice and I couldn't get out of these positions and
18:50 I just was bad and he goes, Hey, uh, what would you do to the Kyle from six months ago?
18:57 And I was kind of caught off guard by the question and I just go, God, I would smoke him.
19:00 I would absolutely destroy me and he goes and shut up, like we're all getting better.
19:05 Like, you know how you've been training a bunch?
19:07 So is everybody else.
19:08 And so the guys that are already ahead of you are already stronger than you are already
19:11 more athletic than you.
19:12 They're not not those things anymore.
19:13 He didn't even say all that.
19:15 All he did was say, shut up.
19:16 Like, by the way, he didn't add any of the editorializing or commentary on the back end.
19:20 He just basically said, yeah, deal with it.
19:22 We're all getting better.
19:23 But if you compare yourself to who you were yesterday, spiritually, mentally, physically,
19:26 that's a really, really big deal.
19:28 One thing that I wanted to focus in on, on this chunk here, and if it seems like we're
19:31 camping out here, it's because we are because I think that this is important.
19:34 But the thing like our, our, our conversation this morning, Eric kind of haunted me a little
19:38 bit during the service because we're going through Colossians right now.
19:41 And you know, we're a verse by verse exegetical, expository preaching thing, and so it can kind
19:46 of be slow.
19:47 And so today's sermon was a little bit slower.
19:48 So I kind of drifted in my brain a little bit and I kept thinking about this consumeristic
19:52 relationship that we have with service because of course we're consumers.
19:56 We concern food and media and, you know, all this other stuff.
20:00 But the problem is, is the guys in your ABF, adult Bible fellowship, otherwise known by
20:05 everyone else as a Sunday school class, they have been lulled to sleep.
20:08 They've been romanced by the spirit of consumerism and they've forgotten the point of what a man
20:15 is here for.
20:16 A man is here to provide not to consume that a real man consumes last.
20:23 He does not think of himself first go back to January this year, guys, where, you know,
20:26 in the way so avoid being a crappy man.
20:28 I talked about where Ryan Horn, you know, he had that, that thing go on with vacation.
20:32 He went to a family vacation was like, you know what, I'm going to think of myself last.
20:35 I'm going to put my wife and my kids above me on this vacation and see how it goes.
20:39 And they went to Disney World, which basically means he's Satan because, you know, Disney's
20:42 the worst.
20:43 Why would you spend money at Disney World?
20:44 What's wrong with you, Ryan?
20:45 But the good point was, is they had an amazing trip because he put himself last because he
20:49 took himself out of the seat of primary consumer and put himself in the seat of primary provider.
20:56 And that's what I feel like the problem is with what's going on and what you're dealing
20:59 with right now is you got a bunch of dudes in there that I don't care what your personality
21:03 type is, introvert extrovert, what your ideogram is.
21:06 I don't care about any of that.
21:08 I care about the fact that you are not stepping up because you think consuming is all you're
21:13 good for in this moment.
21:14 Oh, I'm too busy or I'm too this or Eric's great at it.
21:17 And it's just like they're not going to be the guys that you want to see to your left
21:20 and to your right if things are really the chips are down because, man, it's past six
21:24 PM and they're just, they don't, they have any availability for you at this point.
21:27 Yeah.
21:28 And I, you know, I had one, one thing and, you know, not pointing fingers to anybody that's
21:31 maybe listening to this from my class, but you know, there, there is this tendency that
21:37 you've been there, done that, done that kind of thing.
21:39 I mean, multiple guys in that class have led that class or another class at some point.
21:45 And I feel like they just kind of check out, you know, so I don't know if there's something
21:49 about the newness of the people that are coming to class or how long they've been attending
21:53 that church or whatever.
21:55 And honestly, I've gone back and forth, you know, because I've read Jocko's book, you
22:00 know, and kind of put the onus on me, well, maybe I'm not communicating myself quite clearly
22:04 enough.
22:05 Maybe I'm not making it known what, what I need and the expectations, I feel like I'm
22:09 doing that and I feel like I could scream it and it still wouldn't do anything.
22:12 So anyways, but I would just say like, our work is not done until we go to heaven.
22:19 You know, so if, if, if you've let a class or you, or you've done something and you just
22:24 want to step out, step out of it, it doesn't mean that you stop working.
22:27 And that just feels like half that class is done.
22:30 You know, to kind of circle back to where you were at Kyle, that connects the two pieces
22:33 a little bit.
22:34 And that's the fact that I think men, we have become such consumers, even in our marriage,
22:39 in our house, that we don't understand the reward of provision, the reward of leading.
22:45 And we get so, we get in this position of wanting to be served by everybody else.
22:51 But I really feel like the deep, true reward is knowing that we have provided that we have
22:56 led, that we have guarded, that we have biblically done what needs to be done, that everyone
23:00 else is taking care of first, that that could be marriage, that could be your household,
23:04 that could be a Sunday school class, you know, that you have provided some piece of the puzzle
23:08 of leadership that allowed for that class household to be able to function well.
23:16 And there's, that's what we need to cling to as men, we need to understand the reward
23:19 that comes with that, that God has designed us to be that and quick getting out of the
23:23 weak, um, mindset of needing to be served by everybody else around us.
23:28 When I think a great question to ask those people, which would require some explanation
23:32 is hey, do y'all's hands hurt? And what I mean by that, and y'all have heard me probably say
23:38 this on the show, if you've been listening for any in-link the time, I heard this anecdote,
23:41 it was cute. I doubt it actually really happened, but it was, it just, it really worked out.
23:45 There's this man who's kind of rubbing his hands like, you know, you can tell he's uncomfortable
23:49 and his little daughter comes out to him and says, Hey, daddy, do your hands hurt? And
23:54 instead of addressing your question directly, he says, Hey, sweetie, do you have, you have
23:58 all the clothes that you want in your closet? Well, yeah. Hey, do you, are you doing the
24:02 activities that you really like to do, the stuff that really makes you happy that where
24:06 you have a lot of fun? Well, yeah. Are you going to the school where, you know, you got
24:11 your friends and things are set up in the way that you like it. And you know, do you feel
24:14 like you're, you've gotten all your needs taken care of? Yes, daddy. Then my hands feel
24:18 fine. And so the obvious corollaries, this is a man that works. He works hard. His hands
24:24 hurt, right? And this, this is where people would be like, Oh, well, that's American patriarchal
24:29 stoicism. And that's terrible. He should just be open with us feelings. And it's like, no,
24:33 he doesn't need to unload his feelings on his girl, because that's not the point. The
24:36 point is not, can you please console data? Because dad has hands hurt. The point is,
24:41 are you provided for it? And if the answer is no, you're messing up. And so that's what
24:46 I would ask these guys is, I mean, that's not just the people that are in your Sunday
24:49 school. It's the people that are just in your friend group. Maybe it's the people you're
24:52 the leader of a sales team, or you're, you know, the leader of a gym or the leader of a
24:56 squadron or something like that. And it's just like, Hey, whose hands hurt? Right? And it's
25:00 going to, it's going to be one of those things that just catches people off guard because
25:03 it's like implicit in the, in the answer that you give is where you put yourself in the equation
25:09 on the consumer side of their provider side. And so, and I'm extra bad about this. That's
25:14 why I put what Ryan Horne taught me into the 17 ways to avoid being a crappy man in 2024,
25:19 because it's like so often going into a trip, I'm thinking about the restaurants I want to
25:24 go to and the places I want to make sure I hit and the place where I'm going to feel
25:27 comfortable and if I'm not going to be too hot or too cold or all these different things.
25:31 And there's a wake that's created by my desires, right? And the people that get caught up in
25:37 the wake or my wife and my boys, and I want to make sure they have smooth seas. But if
25:42 as long as I'm focusing on me, it's not, it's not smooth. You know, it's, I had a great
25:47 conversation over Christmas break with my son. And in order to guard that conversation,
25:51 I'm just going to give a highlight just a little bit. But it had to do with as being
25:55 a man. And what are some of the main functions and what we were talking about that moment
25:59 is when a boy goes from needing to be provided for, to now providing for others is one of
26:08 the main steps that it is for moving to a boy to a man. And so you have 25 year old
26:14 boys living at their home. You have 20, you have 30 year old boys that might be on their
26:19 own house, but are living off of the provision of their parents or the provision of the government
26:24 that they're living off of or whatever else. They're not standing. And not only are they
26:29 not providing for themselves, they're not providing for their family. They're not giving
26:33 and covering others. And so I was really had a great heart heart with them as that went.
26:39 That's one of the main definable steps in moving into being a man.
26:44 Absolutely. I think we have beaten that dead horse completely to death resurrected it and
26:48 then be it to death again. But I thought that that was an important thing to camp out on
26:51 because I think that there are there are corollaries for everybody listening to this. You may you're
26:56 finding yourself in that continuum somewhere between consumer and provider. And you need
27:00 to make sure you find yourself on the ladder into that. Eric, if you could hit versus 15
27:05 through 28, please certainly said 28 15 through 28. Right. So when you see the abomination
27:15 of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place, but the reader
27:20 understand, then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let the one who is on
27:26 the house top not go down to take what is in his house and let the one who is in the field
27:31 not turn back to get his cloak. And alas, for women who are pregnant and for those who
27:36 are nursing infants in those days. Pray that your flight may not be in winter and Sabbath.
27:41 But then there will be great tribulation such as not been since the beginning of the world
27:46 until now, no, and never will be. And if those days had not been cut short, no human being
27:52 would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short. Then if anyone
27:57 says you look, here's the Christ, or there he is, do not believe it. For the for false
28:03 Christ and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders. So as to leave stray,
28:09 it's possible even the elect. See, I've told you beforehand. So if they say to you, look,
28:14 he is in the wilderness, do not go out. If they say, look, he is in the inner rooms,
28:18 do not believe it. Whereas the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west.
28:24 So will be the coming of the Son of man, wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
28:30 So I really want to focus in on verse 24 here, verse 24 for false Christ and false prophets
28:35 will arise and perform great signs and wonders. So as to lead a stray, if possible, even the
28:40 elect. And so there's a lot here that will unpack, but just basically to the people that
28:46 get very uncomfortable when me, this ministry or anybody else points at people that are
28:51 doing things that are outside of doctrine that are heretical. You know, obviously we've
28:56 picked on 80 Stanley lot and he's deserved it. I want to ask those people in light of
29:00 things like this, what false prophets do you think we're supposed to be waiting for? Is
29:06 there someone who's more false, property than the people that I choose to pick on? Right?
29:11 And because people are like, well, that's me. That's judgmental. It's divisive. It's
29:14 creating schism. This is exactly what Satan wants. And I'm like, no, what Satan wants
29:17 is for us to ignore these people. Same wants us to look at these people that are actively
29:22 doing incorrect exegesis or ignorantly doing incorrect exegesis and wanting a dust to just
29:28 ignore it. I think this goes back to what we were talking about, Eric, and what really
29:32 if we can back out to all of undaunted life, equipping men to push back darkness, you can't
29:38 push back darkness if you're not looking at it. Just recently, well, this is coming out
29:42 you know, months later, but I posted something on Instagram. It was there was this outdoor
29:47 festival concert thing. And there's a boy on stage who's 10 years old, maybe, right?
29:55 He's 10 years old, very young boy. And the crowd is cheering. That's where you see first
29:59 in this view crowds cheering going nuts and like, Oh my gosh. And then the camera pans.
30:04 And there's this boy and the DJ is there with a microphone. They're encouraging this young
30:08 man to turn around to put his hands on his ankles and to twerk. This is a LGBTQ like event.
30:15 There's obviously gay men on stage. You know, you can just tell by their mannerisms. Yes,
30:20 you can tell by people's mannerisms. And you know, they're they're saying hands on your
30:24 knees, hands on your hands on your ankles, hands on your ankles. And then it was ass
30:28 everywhere, ass everywhere, ass everywhere. And these people are losing it. Having the
30:33 greatest time as this boy is basically being served up, like, you know, lamps to the slaughter
30:40 and kind of a thing. And so I post this video and some of the comments were like, why would
30:45 you even share something like this? This is so depraved. Why do you want people to focus
30:50 on things like this? And my response was calm and simple. We can't push back darkness if
30:55 we refuse to look at it, right? Because you may have not thought that things like this
30:59 happened. Maybe someone described something like this on the news. You're like, that didn't
31:04 happen. Come on, alarmist, Christian nationalists, like, what are you going to do next? Say that
31:09 we should be praying in schools? Like, that's what these people are going to be pointing
31:13 at. And part of it is because so many men, I don't know if this still fits the consumer
31:20 provider side, they don't want to be equipped to push back darkness because it could be
31:24 icky. They don't want to be seen as judgmental. And we're worshiping at the altar of nice.
31:29 What Vodie Bockham calls the 11th commandment, thou shalt be nice and all circumstances to
31:32 all people. And I feel like when you get to something like this, where it's like, Hey,
31:36 look out, there are false prophets and false cries that are going to be coming out. And
31:40 if you're not practiced and prepared in the ways of pointing out depraved things and
31:45 saying, yeah, that's a prayed, we shouldn't do that. How do you expect to do it whenever
31:49 it actually counts? I just don't understand most men.
31:52 Yeah, I think most are not, like you said, not prepared. It's like, they're too, they
31:58 too easily take the bait. Did God really say, you know, they, they don't know any different,
32:04 you know, if you give them the fake dollar bill, they can't tell you that it's fake because
32:08 they don't know what they're looking at. They're not, they're not, they're not sure. So I think
32:11 it starts there. And so then the question in their head is kind of like, well, is it
32:16 really that bad? I don't know. All right. There was a, well, one of the, one of the books
32:20 of how pornography harms, John Folbert managed to go to church with us. And I, I, he's such
32:27 an interesting guy, but I really appreciated him. Because anytime anyone would say anything
32:33 that was the least bit off base or potentially heretical, he would call it out. Like he would
32:38 not all over it. Yeah, it would, it didn't take him, but you know, a split second and
32:43 he would call it out. And I really appreciate that about him because he didn't let it go.
32:48 He didn't let something faster and then grow. And then there'd become an issue where people
32:53 were kind of somewhat sieved or, or there's question marks, you know, and then people
32:57 don't want to touch it. No, he was just right from the very beginning. Yeah, I don't, I
33:01 don't believe that's right. This is what the Bible says. So that's one thing I appreciate
33:05 about you, Kyle, is that you're, you're willing to be that prophet that one that call calls
33:10 people out pushes it back immediately. What do you feel is the main reason? I mean, we
33:15 look at false prophets, false teachers, we look at people that are out that are saying
33:18 things that are very much against what, as Christians, we should be following. But 90%
33:25 of what somebody says, it's, and it just tickles your ear, right? I mean, it's, it's exactly
33:30 what makes me feel good. And man, that seems right. And everything is great about that.
33:34 And then it, it basically gets to the point that it lulls them to sleep when the 10% come
33:40 that's allowed to sneak in. They, they just kind of maybe put an ear up, but then they
33:45 just ignore it and go back to being passive. He were to used seams. Yeah, it seems right.
33:51 Go back to the desert 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus is being tempted by Satan. How did Satan
33:58 communicate? What, what was Satan quoting to Jesus? Bible, the Bible, kind of. It seemed
34:04 like the Bible. It seemed right. It was close, but it was incomplete on purpose, because Satan
34:11 knows the scriptures as well. And he also knows how to use them. And my, what I would argue,
34:17 and I'm curious what you guys would think about this, what I would argue as the reason,
34:20 because you asked, what's the reason for this? And astoundingly high level of biblical illiteracy.
34:25 Absolutely. That's what it is, because you're going to hear something and it'll be like almost
34:30 colloquial in your brain to where this sounds close to what I remember from Sunday school as a kid.
34:35 You know what? This sounds like something I remember my pastor saying in high school when I used to
34:39 go to church all the time because my parents made me. This sounds close enough. So you'll hear
34:43 things like, well, God is love. Love is love. God is love. Love is love. Whoever you want to love,
34:49 Lady Gaga born this way. Hey, and then you just come to this revelation to where it's like,
34:54 true, right? Oh, well, this person says they're gay, makes total sense. That's their truth.
34:59 And then you just start spouting these talking points, because you have no filter to put your
35:04 stupid commentary through, because if you put your filter through the commentary of what does the
35:08 Bible say, as opposed to, did he really say that that's that's ultimately it. Again, I go back to
35:16 why did we even start the forging table? Because I was reading a lot of books that weren't in the
35:20 Bible. I wasn't reading books to the Bible. I was reading books from the bookstore, right?
35:24 And that became a major issue because I was like, oh my gosh, what am I being foolish about?
35:28 What are things that I've just bought, hookline, and singer because they seemed right?
35:31 Yeah, and I merely thought to think of just that God's word does not return to him in vain.
35:36 You know, there is something about just being consistently in the word.
35:39 And one of the things I tell my boys, you know, they need to prioritize being in the word every day.
35:47 So we do we do through you version will have something going pretty pretty regularly,
35:53 whether it's proverbs or something else. And I can see what they're what the verse is that they're
35:58 choosing and that and if they don't write anything, I'll ask them directly. But I always encourage
36:01 them. I was like, well, it's something that stood out to you. And why did you like that? You know,
36:04 at the very middle moment, and it's not that every single time that they're in the word,
36:09 or that I'm in the word that I'm having these aha moments and, you know,
36:13 heavens are opening up above me or whatever, it's the sheer being in the word. And one of the things
36:19 that I appreciate about my friend Matt is in talking to him. He's now pastor somewhere. But
36:25 he said, you know, Eric, when I was young, I started reading the Bible and I just try to be
36:31 consistent. He said, and honestly, I didn't know a whole lot. And so what I did is I had this book
36:36 and I literally wrote down every question I had. I just like, I don't understand that. So I
36:40 write down this question and he just leave it there and leave a blank underneath it or another
36:44 page or whatever. And he just kept writing down questions that he had as he read through the Bible.
36:48 And then what happened is over time, he started getting answers to those questions and he would
36:53 go back and he would fill in the answers to those questions. He says, Eric, you know, now it's been
36:58 15 years. And I had all of these questions. If I go back and open up my journal on that, you know,
37:03 anywhere, I'll open it up. And every single one of those questions have been answered in some
37:08 form or fashion, just for the sheer fact that I was consistent in the word. And so I'd encourage
37:13 you, you know, if father's or whoever's listening to this, if you're not, if you're not reading the
37:17 Bible, read the Bible, don't expect necessarily miracles, but expect it to be nourished. I mean,
37:21 you asked me what I had to eat for breakfast five days ago, maybe maybe I could tell you.
37:26 But I know I ate and I know I was nourished by it. And so at the very minimum, be nourished by the
37:31 word, ask questions, seek answers. And then don't expect for yourself to have to be to a point where
37:38 you're like, I'm a scholar. Now I can teach my son or my daughter about the word, or I can lead my
37:43 wife and my family. You don't have to do that. Just be a step ahead, you know, and then be aware,
37:48 you know, being, be willing to share, even if it's a question that you don't have answered yet,
37:52 you know, I don't know, practical advice. Go ahead, go ahead, Robert.
37:56 It kind of follows within what you had said earlier to Eric was having a counterfeit dollar
38:00 and not knowing what the counterfeit dollar is and what are you comparing it against? You're comparing
38:04 it against a real dollar. You know, how do they train people to be able to identify fake currency
38:09 as they run millions or thousands and thousands of real currency across them. And so whenever they
38:14 see something that's fake, they immediately know this is not the real thing. And the more that we're
38:19 reading the Bible, the more and more that it's in our heart, in our mind, the more and more we come
38:24 across something that's contrary, we're immediately going to be able to point that absolutely one.
38:29 If you're in the word, you will get to a point where you're like, and I think I'm a black belt at
38:33 this. And so again, shock of all shocks, I'm going to use a jujitsu example. But when you talk to
38:39 people, because if you train, because jujitsu is a legitimate martial art, you're not going to get
38:43 your black belt in two years, if you train two, three, four times a week, compete two or three times
38:49 a year and train for a decade, you'll probably get your black belt. Like that's about what the
38:52 timeline looks like. It takes forever. I remember early on, we had a night where we had like five
38:57 guys get their black belt all at once. And the guy who had trained the least amount of time was a
39:02 guy named Livingston. I think he had trained at that point, like 15 years or something. And he was
39:06 the quickest to black belt of the five, right? Such a monster. He's a monster. He's just a savage.
39:11 And he looks like he could do your taxes for you. And then like, oh, you're on and then give you high
39:15 five and say, how you doing, buddy? And then it's just like, no, he'll hit kick you into oblivion. If
39:18 you need it to and if not, he'll take you down and he'll slowly choke you out as he whispers in your
39:22 ear, something hilarious. And so the thing about it is when you hear someone that gets to black belt,
39:28 say something like, God, I feel like I don't know anything. You're like, what? And you're sitting
39:34 there with your white belt or your blue belt, or you don't train at all. And you're like, wait a
39:36 minute, this is an expert. And he says he feels like he doesn't know anything. And the reason is,
39:40 is because you have a guy that trains for 15 years. And then he goes to a different school,
39:45 or there's a new professor that comes in from another academy and they start teaching a certain
39:49 position that he's never even heard of. And he's just like, oh my gosh, this is a whole entirely new
39:55 world, which is another reason why I tell guys don't ever act like you know something that you
39:58 don't. If somebody's talking about something, you don't know anything about ask questions,
40:01 right? You know, so you can get your questions answered. But you get to a certain point where
40:05 you're just like, this will never end like black belt isn't where you are or arrive to. It's just
40:09 where you're at right now. And so same thing with the Bibles. It's like, what are you doing to
40:13 constantly deepen your understanding of how this correlates to that and that correlates to that?
40:18 Because I don't know that any theologian worth their salt, whatever say, yes, I know the Bible
40:22 front and back. Like, even if you could possibly, I'm sure you could, even if you memorize the
40:27 entire thing, even if you can spell out the words, it doesn't mean that you know what they mean.
40:31 It doesn't mean that you know how they apply to, you know, all the other verses in the Bible that
40:36 correlate directly to that word, or that verse or something like that. But again, going back to
40:41 the overall point, it's this biblical literacy that is causing men specifically, like, why aren't
40:47 men catechizing their families? Why aren't men leading their families? Why aren't they
40:50 discipling their children? Why aren't they leading? You're loving their wives as Christ loved the
40:54 church? Why aren't they able to stand up at the school board? Why aren't they able to correct things
40:58 that are happening in culture? What everything like that is because they don't have truth to
41:02 look back on. They have sections of truth. They can see dimly, right? But they can't see clearly.
41:09 And so if you can't see the problem, clearly, how are you going to propose a solution, clearly?
41:13 We're just at a major deficit there. It's uncomfortable, you know, especially in the beginning. It's
41:20 convicting for one thing for this, but even just leading the family and all that. If you're not
41:24 doing it already, it's uncomfortable to start. That makes it hard. Well, I can just go back to
41:29 what's easy. I mean, I think that's one issue. And we just have a book comfort crisis was pretty
41:36 interesting if you haven't read that yet. We just have a crisis of comfort in the US probably around
41:41 the world. So I think that's one way that it makes it harder, I guess. It's just we want to be
41:49 comfortable getting into this and leading and doing stuff is uncomfortable. Let's just go back to
41:53 what's easy. When it's not just physical comfort, we want the mental comfort as well. And almost
41:58 more so and just contrary to growth, right? Right. Every way. I mean, comfort is the opposite of
42:02 truth in between black belts, because it was easy. Yeah. Yeah. Well, right. My goodness, you learned
42:06 to be a pilot and all the accolades that you've done and everything that you've accomplished. I
42:10 can't imagine the amount of discomfort that you've had to go through and studying and just working
42:15 hard to be able to accomplish what you have. I'm still not convinced flying is actually real.
42:18 It still doesn't make any sense to me. Like how that you just it's okay to simple people like me.
42:25 It is magic, Derek. I've tried to explain this to you. There's no it doesn't make any sense to me
42:30 how that thing stays in the air. How does it work? Well, if there's a lesson later, okay,
42:34 I got a whiteboard. There's a whiteboard literally right there. Okay, you can explain it to me.
42:38 Hey, you're saying it's hard. It's uncomfortable that first. I mean, and there are times if you've
42:44 been married, say 15 years, you've never done any kind of like financial planning or like trying
42:48 to like balance a budget, whatever, it may start with, dude, I have sucked for the last 15 years.
42:54 And I apologize that I have not done my job well, but I've got to get this right now.
43:00 You know, so it may start with asking for forgiveness. And that's the most uncomfortable thing.
43:05 And then once you get through that, then don't we spend a lot of time? Sorry. I like pointed
43:09 that you say super aggressively. How dare you? No, like we will we waste time lamenting what we
43:16 haven't done as opposed to trying to figure out what we can do to correct it. So I remember after
43:21 the my Glover interview that I did last November or December or whatever, I got an email, great email.
43:26 This guy was in his 80s. Okay, so he was an 80 something year old veteran. And the gist of the
43:31 email was, Hey, man, saw saw your interview. Something really clicked for me. My whole life,
43:37 I thought I could either be godly or I could be tough. And so I chose to be tough. And it wasn't
43:43 until hearing you talk to Mike that I realized this entire time I could have been both. I could
43:48 have been tough and godly. I could have been godly and manly. But that's not where that would have
43:53 been a great email just there. It's like, Oh, great. I'm glad that could click for you. You know,
43:56 you're welcome. But then he was just like, so I'm going to focus right now on as the lights turn
44:01 off. Is that like a bad sign or a good sign? But it's like, I'm going to focus on making sure that
44:07 I'm nailing it from here on out. It's not, I spent the last eight decades not getting this right.
44:15 It was just like, no, I'm going to try to fix it moving forward, which is the exact right way
44:19 to think about it. We got to move on a little bit here. But I wanted to mention this. I probably
44:24 should have mentioned it like 15 minutes ago. But in verse 24 for false Christ and false prophets
44:29 will arise and perform great signs and wonders. So as to be led astray of possible even the elect,
44:34 the reason why I want to bring this up is because even saved people can't believe wrong theology.
44:40 Because they're people. So I've used this example quite a bit. John MacArthur thinks that if you
44:45 are a Catholic, you are an apostate and you are a non Christian. And if you are a Catholic,
44:49 you are going to hell. And I'm like, wait a minute, you're telling me that categorically,
44:54 no one in the Catholic church, in spite of church history or of Catholic church doctrine,
45:00 nobody has put their faith in Christ for the propitiation of their sins and repented from their
45:04 own sins. No one's done that because they're Catholic. I'm sorry. I don't think you can make
45:08 that claim. Like I get the dramatics of making a broad base claim based on your own narrow version
45:13 of your theology, that being reformed Calvinism or just Calvinism in general. But I think that
45:19 this is a good thing. Even this morning in Sunday school, there was a discussion of young earth
45:23 versus old earth, right? So somebody was giving the young earth position. They didn't exactly
45:27 explain the other positions in a fair light. This person's very much so young earth. But he was
45:32 also very open to be like, yeah, this isn't a salvation issue, right? That like, if you believe
45:36 the earth is old or young or that evolution's real and that got took over at some point,
45:40 that none of that is salvific. But we treat it as if it is. But I think that that's a helpful
45:45 thing for any of the Theo bros out there that love to get into these theological arguments to try
45:50 to make other people feel small or try to just flex their their intellectual might. It's like,
45:54 look, there will be people that are saved or the elect as it's put here in scripture that
45:59 believe the wrong thing. Like they zigged when they should have zagged like, their Armenian isn't
46:03 the Armenian, but Armenian is wrong or their Calvinist and Calvinism is wrong or whatever.
46:07 And so I just wanted to kind of throw that out there to make sure that we're
46:10 I haven't a little bit of grace for people that don't believe rightly. And they're certain
46:15 things that we won't know until heaven and realize like, Oh, Tom was right about this the entire
46:20 time. I'm such an idiot. I mean, then we clean our glasses together and go do whatever people do
46:24 it in heaven, which hopefully is not one big long worship service. Hopefully not. But all right,
46:28 we need to we need to keep this train moving. So whoever wants to do it volunteer, while I go
46:32 over there and try to fix that light versus 29 through 35, I got immediately after the tribulation
46:40 of those days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light and the stars will
46:45 fall from heaven and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then we'll appear in heaven,
46:50 the sign of the son of man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn. And they will
46:55 see the son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out
47:01 his angels with a loud trumpet call. They will gather his elect from the four winds from one
47:06 end of the heaven to the other. That what he said? 35 35 35 from the fig tree.
47:14 Lessons from the fig tree from the fig tree learn its lesson as soon as its branch becomes
47:19 tender and puts out its leaves. You know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these
47:26 things, you know that he is near at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will
47:31 not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will
47:36 not pass away. I'll be real honest. I was over there trying to make sure stuff worked, but
47:41 hopefully the light turned on when you're saying something really smart. So it'd be like you got
47:44 an idea. So I'm gonna let you all flow on that. Whatever you want to say on that, we'll spend,
47:48 you know, fiveish minutes, if there's something there that you guys would like to share.
47:51 Well, kind of like what Master Master, Pastor Mark has said in the past,
47:59 Matthew, I can appreciate that these even these young disciples' apostles are being
48:09 taught about the end times that now I get it. They have a they have specific questions
48:12 about what's going to happen next. And they're gonna he's he's giving them relatively specific
48:16 answers as well. But it does remind me of other other places in the Bible, specifically like
48:22 First Thessalonians, where Paul is not afraid to teach new believers about apocalyptic things,
48:32 you know, there's something hope giving about that. There's something to look forward to in that.
48:38 And yeah, I just think it was some of the best conversations I've had with my kids have been
48:43 on what happens, you know, later on, like, is Jesus coming back? You know, what happens when
48:49 that happens in my even my little girl either day. It was such an interesting, honest question.
48:55 She just she just looked at me and said, Annie, why is life so long?
49:04 From the mouths of babes. I was like, are you are you? She was grounded at the time, right? Yeah,
49:09 so long. Oh, I was like, are you depressed? She was it was an honest question. She was like,
49:16 what am like, what am I going to do when I get to heaven? If it just goes on and on?
49:22 Have y'all not struggle with I have? Yeah, for sure. I literally asked a pastor the
49:26 other day, I was like, what are we going to do the whole time? And his answer, it was Joby.
49:29 And he was just like, you're not it's not going to matter. We don't know. And you're not going to
49:33 care. Did you be a great harp player? I can see it. I think we're also going to be a fat angel,
49:38 just like a cherub. Yeah, like a cherub Kyle doesn't look like a fat baby with a harp on a cloud,
49:45 either by the way, flaming hair red. It's just beautiful. No, I have asked. I was like, okay,
49:52 so let's say you're like a hunter and you just love hunting. It's like your favorite thing in the
49:55 world. Like, is heaven just like this big long hunting trip? And you're just constantly you're
50:00 taking down like a flying elephant or something like like, what was it going to be like? And then
50:05 because I've heard versions of whatever your favorite hobby is, like that's kind of what it's
50:08 going to be like in heaven. So it's going to constantly be filled of dreams, or it's just going to be
50:12 one long worship set. And it's just like the latter for me as I've described was like, please don't,
50:17 please don't do I at least get to pick the singing up there or whatever. But we're going to we're
50:23 going to go ahead and close out here. I want to make sure that we get through the end of this. So
50:26 let's read whoever would like to volunteer because I've lost track again, who last read.
50:30 So let's do versus 36 through the end, which is verse 51. Nice chunk there.
50:34 I mean, you want to
50:36 Robert, do it. Okay. Oh, I thought I thought you're going to deform.
50:40 I was like, do you want to read every other word? It can be like really cute. Don't do it.
50:44 But concerning that day and hour, no one knows not even the angels of heaven, nor the son,
50:50 but the father only. Whereas we're the days of Noah. So we'll be the coming of the sons of man
50:55 for as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking and marrying and giving in
50:59 marriage until the day when Noah entered the ark and they were unaware until the flood came
51:04 and swept them all away. So we'll be the cunning coming of the son of man. The two men will be in
51:09 the field and one will be taken in one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill. One will be
51:14 taken in one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
51:20 But know this that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was
51:24 coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into there. You also
51:30 must be ready for the son of man is coming at an hour. You do not expect who then is the faithful
51:36 and wise servant whom his master has said over his household to give them their food at the proper
51:41 time. Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you,
51:47 he will set himself over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself,
51:53 my master is delayed and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards,
51:58 the master of the servant will come on the day when he does not expect him at an hour he does not
52:03 know and will cut him in pieces and put him in with the hypocrites. And that place it would be
52:09 weeping and gnashing of teeth. So this goes back to something that I talked about when I was out
52:14 with my buddy, my glove around Utah when I did his show because he has a book called prepared.
52:19 He teaches preparedness classes like him and field craft survival do the amazing work helping
52:24 prepare people to gunfight to physically fight to create a homestead to raise chickens, you know,
52:33 pickle stuff and like helping keep you alive, right? But the point I made on the show was not
52:38 a contradiction of his preparedness style. It was an addition to it where it said, okay, great.
52:43 So you've done all the preparation, you've got backup generators, you've got chickens, like you've
52:48 got livestock, you've got hideouts, you've got, you know, places where you can snipe people that
52:54 are coming down your road like you're prepared. But then one of those other chimps is going to
52:59 get you. And guess what you've done? You've just made a lot easier for them to take all your stuff
53:03 because you have it all in one area. So you prepared your entire life to stay alive, but now you're
53:08 dead. Now what? You prepared for this life and not the next one. And so there are a lot of people
53:14 that they don't take this seriously because, you know, they don't really look at time the way
53:19 that they should. And they're just like, well, you know, this is just going to end when it ends,
53:23 it's no big deal. And they're not ready for the returning of the Lord. And so that's always my
53:26 thing to the people that are preppers. Do you want to have a bunch of food in your basement and
53:31 a bunch of backup water on it? Great. I think that's a fantastic idea. Have you reckoned with who Christ
53:36 is yet though? I had a buddy years ago that, you know, he didn't really know what he believed
53:41 somewhere between atheists and agnostic. And you know, I kind of took him down the path of Christianity
53:45 and preach a gospel to him and spent months with him having lunch and that kind of thing. And at
53:48 the end of the rainbow, I was like, Hey, so what do you think about the person of Christ? And he was
53:52 like, well, I really appreciate what you've done. But I feel like I need to do the same thing with
53:55 a Muslim with the Buddhist and with a Sikh and with a new age person and all that just so I can
53:58 evaluate. And I said, okay, I can understand that sentiment. But I said, ultimately, I can give
54:03 you a cheat code. Because if you believe that a Middle Eastern Jewish carpenter is the son of
54:08 God that he lived in a ministry for three years and was put on a cross as payment for our sins,
54:13 died, was risen again on the third day, you don't have to do that research on all that other stuff.
54:19 Because that's the truth of humanity. That answers origin, meaning morality destiny. It answers all
54:24 the greatest and most important questions that you could ever ask of yourself. And that's just
54:29 something that two guys that are in our audience, to certain degrees, even ourselves sitting here
54:33 at the table, we prepare, we prepare, we prepare our bodies, we prepare our minds. But then sometimes
54:39 people lose the thread and they forget to prepare their souls. And I think this is a stark reminder
54:43 of that for sure. And I, and I would say just if I go way back to verse 36, I mean, it goes without
54:50 saying, I think for most, but I know there's somebody out there that needs to hear this. But it says
54:57 the day and the hour no one knows, not even the angels, the heaven, nor the son, nor the but the
55:02 father only. If you if you're at a church or listening to someone that's predicting in dates and
55:07 things they've got it nailed, I would run away as fast as you can. They ain't got it right.
55:12 It's not going to be right. Why do we keep listening to these people? I don't know.
55:16 I literally like years ago, there was a sky because someone had they had cracked the code, man.
55:20 They'd crack the code. And somehow my dork of a friend thought he had really done it. And so he
55:24 posted it on Facebook. So everybody would know, guys, time's coming. It is Thursday at 724 Eastern
55:30 Standard Time. Like that is when it's going to go down. And I was like, I think I probably shared
55:35 this verse with them. And he's like, no, I mean, you don't understand. I was like, Hey, man, I'll
55:38 see you Friday. Like this is like this. If Jesus doesn't know, and again, this kind of gets into
55:44 Trinity and who knows what and how do they communicate and how is it, you know, all these
55:48 different, you know, setups. But in this particular thing, it's like, dude, why do we keep believing
55:52 these people? Like why? And I guess it's just that we're time and time again. People will fall
55:56 for it not once, but they're just going to keep the loop when the next day get thrown out.
56:00 Oh, I remember this Parks and Rec episode where there's this like group of people that are like
56:04 predicting the end times and then they gather the park and the world doesn't end. And so they go
56:08 back in to reschedule the end of the world. And the person's like, Oh, sorry, the park is full
56:12 in that day. It's like, what about the next day? And it's just like, okay, I guess the world
56:16 doesn't really end on the day that you think. But anybody have any closing thoughts on Matthew 24
56:20 before we get out of here? I'll just I think it's super cool that he even tells us like this is
56:27 coming. He gives us a warning to be looking for, expect his return. So if we're around that time,
56:34 it's great. If not, we'll see him after we pass. But it's a it's a super cool, I don't know,
56:43 insight into God and Christ and he's telling us to continue to look for him, I guess. I don't know.
56:51 Yeah, I mean, we're without excuse, right? It's like literally I have given you the answer.
56:56 It's coming. Don't don't be don't be caught off guard. I'll I'll end with this this verse.
57:03 2 Peter 3 9, which says, the Lord is not slow to fill fulfill his promise as some count slowness,
57:13 but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come
57:19 or should reach repentance. And so, yeah, just on that as I camp it out on that verse 48,
57:24 my master is delayed. Really? No, your master is having forbearance and patience with your stupidity.
57:32 Today is the day for repentance. Don't delay. That's a great way to leave it. But guys,
