This is Undaunted Life a Man's Podcast. I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.
0:56
Welcome back to the Forging Table. The mission of Undaunted Life is equipping men
1:00
to push back darkness with content that forges spiritual mental and physical resilience.
1:04
At the Forging Table, you'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience by
1:07
digging into God's Word. And we're welcoming all of you to come along on the journey with us.
1:10
That's Jake. That's Ryan. That's Derek. Guys, we are wrapping up Genesis. We've been in Genesis
1:14
for a very, very, very long time. But last week we played a little game, right? And no,
1:20
guys, come on. Like, you got a what? Jake, why do you look so at this point? It could be that
1:24
you were in fourth place by a mile. I was. So go back last week. We played this game called
1:29
Discernment from Christian's like. So that was a lot of fun. But what's funny about this
1:33
is I ordered this and it was supposed to come in like yesterday, right before you recorded.
1:39
And I'm like, oh, yeah, that'll be perfect. We'll do it on the show. It came in
1:42
in between our recordings, right? And so like, that's why we did this. Because originally,
1:48
I had this game right here called Cast the First Stone, also by Christians like. Okay.
1:55
So what we're going to do is everybody gets a number. All right. So and again, guys,
1:58
I have no affiliation with Christians like this. These are just ads that popped up on like TikTok
2:03
or Instagram or whatever. All right. So everybody gets a number at first. So all right, Jake,
2:09
your number one, everyone's heart. Ryan, your number two, Derek, you were number three,
2:14
and I am number four. Who does number two work for? All right. All right. All right.
2:21
Okay. So this is what we do. I guess you after that, which we had.
2:24
Goodness gracious alive. All right. So what we do is I'm going to read a statement on a card
2:30
and then we are going to put down who we think out of the four of us, like most exemplifies
2:38
whatever the thing on the card is. Does that make sense? Okay. And so that's the stone you are
2:43
casting get it. It's a stone that is cast. All right. So I guess everybody needs a set. So there's
2:50
one, two man, these are not in order. All right. What do you have? Ryan, you got a one, two. All right.
2:55
And then three and a four. There's a three and a four. Thank you. All right. Yeah. These are all
3:00
cast one to yourself. One, two, three, four. Yeah, you can cast a stone for yourself.
3:07
If you're, if you're being honest, this is probably all right. Four cast stone for himself, four, three, four.
3:13
My self-deprecating nature is probably going to have me, three, four. He wants to win. So he's
3:19
going to vote for himself a whole time. But initially, initially. So like, if I read, if I read, like,
3:24
who's the forging table that Joby would love, I would put my my two stone down, but I would put
3:28
it face down just in front of me. And then we'll all turn it over at the same time. We'll like show
3:32
it to the person. So I think that's how it goes. I saw someone do this on YouTube. All right. So
3:36
let's see how this goes. I don't even know how this game ends. We're just going to go until it
3:39
stops me and funny. So we'll see. They could be quickly for all I know. All right. So oh, I need
3:44
my own set. Did I get myself set? Nope. No, come on. Do it live. These are going to be so messed up
3:52
the next time I do it. One, two, three, four. Okay. People that are listening to this are like,
3:57
what in the world is going on? Okay. So all right. Here I go. You got three cards, bro.
4:03
This is I'm not there's a one. Okay, we're Christian likes. Can you make this harder than
4:08
it really is? My gosh. Yeah. No, don't blame them for me being stupid. All right. So here we go.
4:12
The first one. So the first stone that shall be cast. We're in an orchard picking fruits of the
4:19
spirit. Whose basket is overflowing with patience? Everybody cast their stone and then we'll throw
4:28
it down. All right. On three, turn them over one, two, three. All right. So Jake and I both said,
4:36
Derek, you said me? All right. So you're obviously the most patient, but that is hilarious that you
4:48
put me down. I'm easily the least patient person out of the bunch. I didn't even make it on the board.
4:53
Yeah. All right. Thanks a lot of sense. All right. Next one here. Whose shoe collection could fund
4:59
the church's outreach ministry? I have no idea. All right. On three, one, two, three.
5:10
Literally, everyone got a vote. So you voted for Jake. I voted for you. You voted for me.
5:18
And you voted for horn. Yeah. He said shoe, not cologne. Well, I figured anybody who has a
5:23
cologne collection should have a shoe collection. This one, I would probably, I used to be like,
5:28
like a big like sneaker head guy, but not even like a big sneaker. I have like one pair of
5:31
Jordan's. So like that's not like a sneaker hit thing. Okay. All right. So there's, there's a couple.
5:34
We're learning about each other. All right. Next one. Who changes their outfit the most before
5:39
going to church? Yeah. Everyone's going to get the same one. Who changes their outfits the most
5:44
before going to church? All right. All three. One, two, three. Everybody says more. I even better
5:50
have myself on that one. My wife gave me a hard time about that this morning. That's awesome.
5:55
Like what? So why, what is it about the clothes? You just see yourself in the mirror and you're
5:58
like, okay, this isn't my, this is a matching my essence today. Do you have to reapply cologne?
6:03
If you've already got on the other shirt, I try to get it done. We saw I don't have to reapply
6:06
cologne. So, uh, yeah, it wasn't today. I think I knew it. I was going to wear it today. But
6:11
yesterday we were going out to dinner and I was like, do you think I should wear this other shirt?
6:15
She's like, no, you look fine. She, she like rolls her eyes out. Don't ever say that back to her.
6:20
Yeah. You look fine, honey. Let's go to dinner. That's not going to work out. Well, all right.
6:22
Next one here. Who has to pee at least twice during the church service?
6:27
All right. All three, two, one, go.
6:36
Everyone chose me, guys. Is it that y'all noticed or did you guess? They're so hydrated. Dude, I have
6:42
to pee literally constantly. Like, I will literally be sitting there in church like, come on, come on,
6:46
pastor, like, I know when it's going to end, but it's like 25 minutes. Okay. You sit outside in the
6:51
lobby because you have to pee sometimes. That is 100% true. I don't want to disrupt the rest of
6:56
the congregation. I get up at least twice. More like three or four times every single night to be
7:01
and people are like, well, don't drink right for bed. It would not matter. Like, I'm so hydrated
7:05
throughout the day. Like, it's kind of ridiculous. And like, don't worry, guys, I've had all the
7:08
plumbing check. We're all good. All right. Next one here. Next one here. Has has a, who hasn't been
7:14
the consensus person yet? You, Derek, you're the patient, Jake, you're neither one of us. Okay,
7:21
he was the first one. So Jake's the only non consensus person yet. We're at Starbucks.
7:28
Perfect. At Disney. That's how it says, that was, that we wouldn't go straight to hell when you
7:36
know we're at Starbucks. Whose order is the most complicated? Three, two, one, go.
7:45
It's a tie between Ryan and Jake. All right. So let's hear your orders. And then Derek and I
7:53
will determine who has a more complicated order. And Venti Capuccino with two raw sugars.
7:58
Okay. Black coffee.
8:00
You freaking toyed over there.
8:04
I'll make my own coffee. Okay. If I want a black, black coffee over the don't know jokes.
8:11
All right. Here we go. Next one here. Who always has the T.
8:14
T. E. A. Who always has the T.
8:17
I don't know. Is there a card for Cy Robertson? No, that's a nice.
8:29
One, two, three. All right. A tie between me and Winkler. Winkler. So I guess you strike
8:37
them as a T guy. There's literally T. Y'all. I think all of y'all had T at one point or another
8:42
at my house because I don't drink. I don't even drink it with caffeine in it. It's just for the
8:45
throat. Okay. We may be interpreting this very differently. I don't take it as literal T.
8:50
I mean, they're like, they got the gossip. They go. No, it literally says who always has the T.
8:56
And I think they meant that as. That's not a saying. I guess it is. Who's got the T. Yes.
9:00
Who's got the T. You've not heard that. You've not heard that. Sorry, Miss Jackson.
9:05
No, you have not. You're lying only from the T. Yes. Or the high schoolers. Okay. You know what?
9:10
All right. Let's take this. Is it like new? I think it's newer. It's a newer thing. All right.
9:14
So all right. So we'll redo it. We'll redo it. We'll re-voting. Okay. So who's always got the T.
9:19
Who's always got the gossip? Who's always got the blah blah blah? Okay. No voting out of spite.
9:26
One, two, three, go. I even said myself. We've still got a tie. Okay. We always got that.
9:33
All right. You two. All right. You know what? We'll just take the tie. Hey, what do you got?
9:36
What do you got right now? Not the T. What is that's the dumbest thing ever? Like, I got nothing.
9:40
Let's hear it. I feel like you fill me in on stuff. Actually, yeah. But it's not the gossip.
9:45
It's not like what's going on with our neighbors. Like, it's what's going on around the racial.
9:49
Yeah. I mean, yeah. And then I was the one with discernment on Andy Stanley. Yeah, I win. You lose.
9:54
All right. Here we go. Next one. Who could raise the most money for our mission trip?
9:59
Three, two, one, go.
10:04
Wow, Jake. He could steal the most money, right? But I wouldn't do that. I figure like,
10:13
I just do a podcast about it. I guess that's true. I mean, that's true. Sometimes I'm like,
10:18
would it be like, Oh, man, something happened at my house. So then Jake just floats me a grand.
10:24
Oh, yeah. Hey, my refrigerator is gone. I need a new refrigerator. Jake, Jake, you're like,
10:32
book, can we do to help? I mean, you got a thousand dollars? Yeah, I do. Here we go. Next one,
10:41
we're all going to dinner together. And it's on one check. Who is most likely to pick up the tab?
10:47
Let's just turn them over. Jake's money bags. Jake's like, hey, you weren't going to lunch.
10:52
I'm like, yes, let's go. Jake, going to mahogany for lunch. I have that. I have that thing. I'll
10:58
go to dinner with people. And then I'll just kind of be like, to the waiter, are we on separate
11:02
checks? And then I just kind of feel all the eyes kind of pivot. I'm like, he's going to say it's
11:07
on one. Please do it. Noah's Ark is starting to take on water. Who would start throwing animals
11:15
overboard? Let's go. I'm killing baby Hitler. I'm hunting a giraffe off that thing. Get off my
11:28
boat. Get him out of here. Get on the heck out of here. Next one. Who would win the lottery and
11:39
spend it within 48 hours? And go. Yeah, Ryan, it's 100% you. You're buying cologne socks.
11:55
Actually, you know what? If I wasn't a lottery, I would spend it in 48 hours. I'd pay off my house.
11:58
Okay. Well, that's a lame answer. You got to give something ridiculous. Okay. You win the lottery.
12:03
What is the first thing you do not? What is the totality? But you have won the lottery.
12:08
The money's in your account or however you get the annuity or whatever thing is. What's the
12:12
first thing that you buy? Give 10% to the church. Okay. That's a pretty good answer. 10% to the
12:18
church. Bam. Give 15% to the church. Derek, are you holding the church?
12:27
It's Pastor. It's Pastor Mark. Listen to this. Yeah. I'm buying a bottle lock of the one.
12:31
I mean, Joseph said 20%. I'm buying a bottle of scotchy. And then we'll deal with it to the
12:37
tie than all that stuff. Like, all right, we'll do a few more here by plane. Who? Yeah, you would
12:42
buy a plane. Wouldn't you? He is a pilot after all. Who would get famous on the internet by accident?
12:47
Yeah. Let's go and Ryan. Yeah. There's no way. There's no way everyone already knew it was you.
12:58
Come on. Yeah. That's why we all started giggling. It's not even close. Next one here. We're all
13:05
writing a book. Who's would be a bestseller? One, two, three. Everyone's got to vote so far.
13:18
Jake's still dealing with the Derek. I got to write a book. I got to write a book.
13:22
Very good. We'll do it. Two more. Two more. Something tells me as quiet as he is. He's
13:26
probably got a whole lot of stuff that he's gonna talk about. Yeah. For sure. For sure. For sure.
13:33
I'm not Navy SEALs. He shot pop up as goodbye. We know who has the most crosses hanging up in their
13:42
house. I mean, your home school's the hardest. I'm going Derek Winkler. Right? Y'all got a lot of
13:57
crosses up in the house. Yeah, Catholic. Yeah. That's right. Last one guys here. Pick a random one.
14:06
Pick a one in a room. Random one, Derek. All right. This last one. You read it.
14:08
Who do you trust most to count the offering after service?
14:13
The accountant. Yeah. All right. We got to have consensus there at the end. So we took
14:21
the consensus. So there you go. Yay. Integrity. God, you made integrity sound so dirty. Just
14:29
then you somehow made that sound nerdier than when you're talking about Lord of the Rings.
14:32
Ali and everyone. Hey, Jake, look at you one in the end. That's right. Yeah, you did win at the
14:39
very, very end there. All right. So that's it. So cast the first stone. But hey, today we are going
14:45
through three chapters of the Bible. We're going through three chapters of the Bible. We're starting
14:49
out in Genesis 48. We are closing out Genesis. So Derek, if you wouldn't mind, let's do the first
14:55
21 verses of Genesis 48. After this, Joseph was told, behold, your father is ill. So we took with
15:04
him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. And it was told to Jacob, your son Joseph has come to you.
15:11
Then Israel summoned his strength and sat up in bed. And Jacob said to Joseph,
15:16
God Almighty appeared to me at loose in the land of Canaan and blessed me and said to me,
15:22
"Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you and I will make you a company of peoples
15:28
and will give this land to your offspring after you for an everlasting possession.
15:32
And now your two sons who are born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt are
15:38
mine. Ephraim and Manasseh shall be mine as Reuben and Simeon are mine. And the children that you
15:44
fathered after them shall be yours. They shall be called by the name of their brothers in their
15:49
inheritance. As for me, when I came from Padan to my sorrow, Rachel died in the land of Canaan on
15:57
the way when there was still some distance to go to Ephraim. And I buried her there on the way to
16:04
Ephraim that is Bethlehem. When Israel saw Joseph's sons, he said, "Who are these?" Joseph said to
16:10
his father. "These are the sons whom God has given me here." And he said, "Bring them to me,
16:15
please, that I may bless them." Now the eyes of Israel were dim with age so that he could not see.
16:20
So Joseph brought them near and kissed them and embraced them. And Israel said to Joseph,
16:26
"I never expected to see your face and behold, God has let me see your offspring also."
16:31
Then Joseph removed from his knees and borrowed and bowed himself with the face to the earth.
16:38
And Joseph took them both. Ephraim in his right hand and Israel left hand and Manasseh in the
16:43
left hand toward Israel's right hand. I butcher that and brought them near him. And Israel stretched
16:50
out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim who was the younger and his left hand
16:55
on the head of Manasseh crossing his hands from Manasseh was the firstborn. And he blessed Joseph
17:01
and said, "The God before whom my father's Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been
17:07
my shepherd all my life long to this day, the angel who was redeemed me from all evil,
17:12
blessed the boys. And in them let my name be carried on, and the name of my father's Abraham
17:18
and Isaac, and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth." When Joseph saw his father
17:25
laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him, and he took his father's
17:29
hand and moved it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. And Joseph said to his father,
17:34
"Not this way, my father, since this one is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head."
17:38
But his father refused and said, "I know my son, I know. He also shall become a people,
17:44
and he also shall be great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he,
17:50
and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations. So he blessed them that day, saying,
17:55
"By you, Israel, will pronounce blessings, saying, God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh."
18:03
Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh, then Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die,
18:09
but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers. Moreover,
18:14
I have given to you, rather than to your brothers, one mountain slope, that I took from the hand
18:21
of the Amorites with my sword and my bow and with my bow." Yeah, so I appreciate that. There's
18:27
quite a bit here. So Ephraim, the younger, is preferred over the older. We just see that all
18:31
throughout Isaac over Ishmael, and then Jacob over Esau and Joseph over Reuben.
18:35
And now we see the same thing happening with Ephraim and Manasseh. And the one thing that
18:39
I did want to point out that, you know, well, actually the Reformation study Bible pointed this
18:43
out, but the line of the seed will continue through Ephraim, but it will transfer to the
18:47
tribe of Judah by God. We see that in Psalm 78. But going back up to verse 12, we see Joseph
18:54
bowed to Jacob. And this is a big deal because Joseph is second to Pharaoh in the world, right?
19:02
He's, he's JD Vance right now, like in terms of like power, powerful people in the world,
19:07
like he is second to the most powerful person in the world, but he still bows below the patriarch.
19:12
And so there's just something about dad, regardless of what dad's job is, regardless of where dad's
19:17
at and where the station in life is, there's something about the patriarchy. And I mean that in the best,
19:23
best possible sense, but other stuff there on Genesis 48. I think what we're seeing here is we're
19:30
seeing the firstborn blessing being given. And so when they break up the tribes during Joshua's time,
19:38
the Levites end up being scattered, which will go over in the blessing in the next chapter. But
19:44
what happened is Manasseh and Ephraim become a tribe. So that become the 12 tribes. And so we're
19:50
going to see here the firstborn blessing, and then we'll see the messianic blessing in the next
19:55
chapter. I want to think there's a bit of foreshadowing here too. As he says, like Reuben and Simeon,
20:02
they will be to me. You can see that he's, there's almost a planned replacement of Reuben and Simeon
20:08
with Ephraim and Manasseh. And so it does make me, I mean, I did kind of wonder.
20:17
So is this Jacob's double portion of the inheritance? Did he get a third?
20:22
Yeah. So back on verse three portion or just Jacob, Jacob adopts Joseph's son. So Reuben and Simeon
20:29
are being bypassed. So Joseph can get a double portion of his inheritance. Well, Reuben and Simeon
20:35
still get land. But Joseph, Joseph gets a double portion due to Ephraim and Manasseh getting land.
20:46
That's, that's how I took it. I think we just said the same thing. But they're, well, they're being
20:51
bypassed. They're being, they're being bypassed in the birthright. I thought, I don't think,
20:56
are you sure Reuben and Simeon got land? Yeah, I'm sure. We'll see that 49. I thought they were
21:00
scattered in Israel. I don't think they got any. Levites were, the Levites were scattered,
21:05
so Levi was scattered. I'm almost pretty sure. That is the least convincing statement.
21:12
I'm pretty sure. I mean, we don't, we don't need a look ahead yet. We literally talk about it at
21:18
the front of 49. Yeah. At the start of 49. But I was just kind of curious if, is, is Jacob getting
21:24
a share and then his sons are also getting two shares? Joseph is not getting a share.
21:31
Joe, one of Joseph's sons gets a share, but he's blessing both sons. Joseph technically gets two
21:37
shares because Menessa and Ephraim get land. So he's getting a first born. Joseph's getting
21:43
a double portion. He's getting a double portion. Okay. Yeah. That was a genuine question. I was like,
21:49
is Joseph also getting a share and then his sons are getting a share each? Like, are they getting
21:54
the Reuben and Simeon shares? No, because here's, nobody can see this online.
22:02
But look at him. I mean, here's Reuben. Here's Reuben. Here's Simeon. Simeon's inside the land
22:07
of Judah. There's Reuben and then you have Ephraim and then Menessa East and Menessa West. Right.
22:12
So and then if you see the Levites, the Levi, Levi does not get any land. That's where he talks,
22:18
like we'll see in the blessing in 49 where he basically talks about them being scattered.
22:22
Okay. Do you guys see anything on why Joseph wanted him to uncross his hands and put Menessa
22:30
first or vice versa? In terms of the why, I would say it's just because of other than it being the
22:37
birth order. Yeah. So tradition. The tradition. Yeah. I mean, it is interesting that Jacob
22:42
is doing, is doing that. I mean, because it's essentially, it's, it's, it's similar to what has
22:49
happened with him with Esau. Right. And then also not blessing the oldest from Leah's children,
22:59
you know, Jacob was his, or I'm sorry, Joseph was his first born with Rachel. Right. But that, I mean,
23:06
again, I don't know Jewish tradition here, but I don't know with, with that constitute his first
23:10
born. Would that be a second first born? I don't think it would. So he bypasses Reuben and Levi
23:18
for the blessing and he gives the blessing to Judah. Yep. But then he's also giving
23:24
the poor a blessing to Joseph. So here's what Moody has to say. It says Jacob intentionally
23:31
granted the preeminent blessing to the younger than rather than the older as has been a pattern
23:35
through throughout Genesis. This highlights the sovereignty of God in election Romans nine,
23:40
10 through 16, but it also anticipates the similar unconventional election of Jacob's fourth
23:47
oldest son Judah as the recipient of the messianic blessing in the next generation.
23:53
All roads lead right back to Calvinism. That's what he wanted to say the entire time.
23:59
At least according to the Moody, message was Moody, uh, reformed count as I don't, I don't
24:05
know. I don't think so. I mean, I'm actually right. Full. So no. Thank you, Joe.
24:11
They are in the Bible. Thank you, Joby. Now, that's what it says. We're just going to do like,
24:18
Bible says what it says, man. What we're actually going to do is we're going to put like a, uh,
24:21
a statue, a little statue of Joby right here and we'll bow to it every single time we make a mistake,
24:26
right? Make a little, make a little idol. No, not into it. No. All right. I feel you on that.
24:30
I don't think Joby'd be into it either. I don't know. It'd be awkward. Um, anything else on 48,
24:35
Genesis 48, before we move on. All right, let's hit 49. So we will take a volunteer because you're
24:41
going to read all of Genesis 49. I'll do it. Volunteer. Oh man.
24:48
Oh, dog. Then Jacob called his sons and said, gather yourselves together that I may tell you
24:57
what shall happen to you in days to come. Assemble and listen, oh, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel,
25:03
your father. Ruben, you are my firstborn, my might and the first fruits of my strength,
25:09
preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. Unstable is water. You shall not have preeminent.
25:16
Because you went up to your father's bed, then you defiled it. He went up to my couch.
25:21
Simeon and Levi are brothers. Weapons of violence are their swords. Let my soul come
25:26
and not into their counsel. Oh, my glory be not joined to their company. For in their anger,
25:33
they killed men and in their wilfulness, they had a hamstrung oxen cursed to be their anger
25:38
for its fierce and their wrath for it is cruel. I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in
25:44
Israel. Judah, your brothers shall praise you. Your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies.
25:50
Your father's son shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son,
25:55
you have gone up. He stooped down. He crouches a lion and as a lioness who dares rouse him.
26:00
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet.
26:06
Until tribute comes to him and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
26:10
Binding his fold to the vine and his donkey's colt to the choice vine. He was washed his garments
26:15
in wine and his vesture and the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine and his teeth wider
26:22
than milk. Zebulun shall dwell at the shore of the sea. He shall become a haven for ships and his
26:29
borders shall be its side on. Isekar is a strong donkey crouching between the sheep folds. He saw
26:36
that arresting place was good and that the land was pleasant. So he bowed his shoulder to bear,
26:43
bowed his shoulder to bear and became a servant at forced labor. Dan shall judge his people as one
26:50
of the tribes of Israel. Dan shall be a serpent in the way of hyper by the path that bites the
26:55
horse's heels so that his rider falls backward. I wait for your salvation. O Lord,
27:01
braiders shall raid Gad, but he shall raid at their heels. Asher's food shall be rich. He shall
27:07
yield royal delicacies. Nefthali is a dough let loose that bears beautiful fawns. Joseph is a
27:14
fruitful bow, a fruitful bow by a spring. His branches run over the wall. The archers bitterly
27:20
attack him, shot at him, and harassed him severely. Yet his bow remained unmoved. His arms were made
27:26
agile by the hands of the mighty one of Jacob. From there is the shepherd, the stone of Israel.
27:31
By the God of your father who will help you, by the almighty who will bless you, with blessings
27:36
of heaven above, blessings of the deep that crouch is beneath, blessings of the breasts of the womb,
27:42
the blessings of your father are mighty beyond the blessings of my parents. Up to the bounties
27:49
of the everlasting hills, may they be on the head of Joseph and on the brow of him who was set apart
27:56
from his brothers. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf in the morning devouring the prey and an evening
28:02
dividing the spoil. All these are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them
28:10
as he blessed them, blessing each with the blessing suitable to him. Then he commanded them and said
28:15
to them, "I am to be gathered to my people, bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field
28:20
of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the land of Meccpella and the east of Mamrie, and the land
28:27
of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite to possess as a burying place.
28:34
There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. There they buried Isaac and Rebecca his wife,
28:40
and there I buried Leah, the field and the cave that is in it were bought from the Hittites.
28:45
When Jacob finished commanding his sons, he drew up his feet into the bed and breathed his last and
28:50
was gathered to his people. Thank you very much for reading that. So obviously these blessings are
28:56
very powerful to read through, and you're just wondering like all these kids are hearing everything
29:01
that's being said. And so there are some people whose chests are puffed out a little bit more,
29:05
some other people that are maybe a little navel-gazy. But for that entire section, one of the notes I
29:11
made is, "May we all be suitable of a blessing like Judas?" Just to reread Judas' blessing that starts
29:17
in verse 8, "Juda your brothers shall pray you, your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies,
29:23
your sons shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
29:29
He stooped down, he crouches a lion, and as lioness who dares rouse him, the scepter shall not depart
29:34
from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet until tribute comes to him. And to him
29:39
shall the obedience of the peoples, binding his full to the vine and his donkey's colt to the choice
29:44
vine. He was washed his garments and wine, and his vesture in the blood of grapes. His eyes are
29:49
darker than wine, his teeth wider than milk." So when we talk about the lions, Judas, the lions
29:54
cub. I mean, there's strength, there's courage, there's boldness there. We see that with David in
29:59
2 Samuel 5. And the scepter talked about there in verse 10. That's a real authority. The scepter
30:05
should not depart from Judah. And again, the authority of God comes through the line of Judah in the
30:12
person and work of Jesus Christ, right? And so again, we can't live up to that, right? But
30:18
I mean, what a tremendous thing it would be later in our lives, like for our father to be able to
30:23
give us a blessing like that. That does not, you know, imagine being in, you know, Ruben,
30:29
Simeon, or Levi's positions, like, sorry, dad, like, it'd be one of those moments.
30:33
Yeah, I mean, in this moment, when you start looking at Jacob as a father,
30:41
in how often we actually can see God being portrayed as a father as well, I think the
30:51
it could be good to consider the significance of the question, you know,
30:56
you know, do we treat our children different from one another? And some need their wills broken,
31:04
and others are fairly compliant and move along with the program of maturity without requiring a
31:09
strong hold on the tether. I mean, you just kind of, I mean, we all have kids, and I would say we
31:16
probably can point to one kid that's like, no, I can literally, I have one, I have one
31:22
daughter who literally, if I just look at her, it's like done, you know, I have another that
31:29
the look may not work and the words will, you know, but I mean, you go through here in what I think
31:37
would maybe sound like some very, I mean, they are harsh words, don't get me wrong,
31:41
they're harsh words, but in, in a way, every one of these sons is hearing exactly what they
31:47
probably need to hear in that moment, every single one of them. And I think God does that with us
31:54
constantly, that we get checked all the time in a way that would be most appropriate to what
32:02
we're, we're struggling with in that moment. Agreed. Other stuff on Genesis 49?
32:11
I like how, when you talk about Judah, it says your brother shall praise you. I think it's just
32:17
showing that the line of David and, and how much praise was going to come up to Judah. Sorry,
32:23
should move myself up a little bit. All good. So yeah, it's just like, there's a lot of prophetic
32:28
things in here. And the fact that Judah shall shall be praised, and he will be praised because
32:33
David comes from the line of, of Judah. Another thing is Dan. When he talks about Dan, you'll be
32:40
the judge. Who is a Dan tonight? That was a judge. Anybody know? Samson? Samson. Yeah. And then you
32:47
have, when you talk about Benjamin being a ravenous wolf and winning his victories, a lot of that's
32:53
going to happen when the line of Judah takes its throne, which kind of goes into revelation.
32:57
But look at Saul. Saul had a lot of victories through Judah, you know, in the fact that David,
33:04
David won him a lot of victories when he was king. So it's just kind of interesting to,
33:08
to read these blessings and then kind of look further into scripture.
33:13
Well, yeah. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf in the morning devouring the prey and at the
33:16
evening dividing the spoil. And you pointed out how King Saul was a part of the tribe of Benjamin.
33:23
And he was certainly a great king until he lost his favor. He lost his anointing.
33:29
And how did he lose that anointing?
33:31
By stopped relying on God. Well, yeah. But he also got told him to kill everything with,
33:35
I think it was the Amalekites. Amalekites. Amalekites. Yeah. And he divided the spoils.
33:42
I mean, look right here in the evening devouring the prey and at the, in the morning devouring
33:47
the prey and at the evening dividing the spoils. Yeah. And he was told not to take anything.
33:53
Yeah. Whoopsies. I don't know. I was just like, that's what I was thinking when I was reading it.
33:58
Okay. So that was pretty, pretty telling. Very good. And then Jacob's death. I thought it was
34:05
strange. So he wants to be buried with, um, with, uh, his father who Isaac and Rebecca and then
34:13
Abraham and Sarah. But notice he buried Leia. So that means they went to, they made the journey
34:19
over to there. And he buried Leia when she died. But when Rachel died, they buried her on the side
34:23
of the way, which is now Bethlehem. So it was like, did Leia get the rights of a first wife?
34:30
Because she was married to him first. So she's buried with him. I thought that was
34:34
interesting as well. Yeah. I do. The other thing I was going to point out here is, uh,
34:41
49 11, um, it's Judah's blessing. Uh, binding is full or donkey, uh,
34:51
to the vine and his donkey's cold to the choice vine is washed as garments and wine and his
34:57
vesture in the blood of grapes. Um, to me, that seems to point to the future coming of Jesus,
35:05
the writing in of the donkey tethering it to the vine, the vine of, or the, if you want to kind of
35:11
go from the stump of Jesse, um, you know, and from the lineage of David, um, but also washing his
35:19
garments and wine. You hear the blood. I mean, to me, it's a pretty clear, like prophecy in that
35:26
moment that there's a foreshadowing to the coming of Christ at a future date, like the death and then
35:32
also, uh, communion. I'm looking up something on that real quick. I'll keep going or whatever,
35:39
whatever thing about it. I'm sorry. No, I can see the communion with the blood of grapes,
35:44
but also garments and line is just like the blood. I mean, the blood of Christ. Yeah. And the, uh,
35:50
note here in a preliminary way, this prophecy was fulfilled in the prosperity of David and Solomon,
35:56
but in a fuller way by our Lord at his first coming, uh, it will be fulfilled completely
36:02
at his second advent. Uh, thus Jacob and Joseph both died in hope. They did not receive the things
36:08
they were, they, the things promised. So they didn't receive these things as they were promised.
36:14
They only saw them and welcome them from a distance. They were longing for a better country, a heavenly
36:18
one, indeed one that all, one that all who trust in God, uh, will share with them. So, I mean,
36:25
it, it, it, I think it's one of those things. And I guess if you wanted to kind of look at it from
36:31
just our point of view now, you know, we may not, I, I've said this before, you know, my mom, I,
36:41
and I've put back to my mother, she was raised in a home that had indoor plumbing until she was 16.
36:45
So not exactly a prosperous family. Um, and so she worked really hard, just 30 or 40 years at the
36:54
same company just worked every day, provided, you know, came home and she was the primary breadwinner
37:00
in the family, came home, made dinner, made sure everything was, I mean, she kept the house, she
37:05
did both roles, uh, provider, but also dad was there too. And dad had his role, but it was just not in
37:12
this, not in the same vein that I would probably define what I would in my own home. Uh, but mom,
37:19
I always said, mom kind of worked hard not knowing that she was probably never going to
37:24
attain maybe what she would like to attain. However, knowing that she would be leaving her
37:33
children in a spot where they could attain it, that's where I kind of see, you know, Joseph
37:40
and Jacob here, it's, I did not, I did not get to attain this, but I have put everything in order,
37:49
so that the future generations may attain it. It's cool. Yeah, I think some people there,
37:55
some people are snow plow people. And I've talked about that before. I had the realization last
38:00
year at some points, like, I wonder if everything that I'm doing right now with on Don life is for
38:03
James and Eli. Right. And I talked about how, you know, uh, does anybody know who Alex Alexander
38:09
the Great's father was Philip Massadon, Philip. Yeah, Philip Massadonia. And so like, and so,
38:16
but no one, almost nobody remembers that. Right. Maybe one out of a hundred people will know who
38:20
Philip, Philip the first is three out of one. Right. Sorry, Derek. Somebody went to public school.
38:28
I did all of us. But yeah, so I bet Phil first thought he was the point, but you know, I guess,
38:36
you know, historically speaking, Alexander the Great was, yeah, I bet Billy Graham's dad thought
38:40
he was the point. And then, you know, Billy was the point. And so I kind of think the same thing,
38:43
as far as that goes, going back to what you were saying about, uh, Genesis 49 11. Yeah,
38:49
apparently that is a well known, uh, direct description, a future description of Christ,
38:54
you know, talking about his triumphal entry of Christ, uh, in his, his garments as poetic language
38:59
that are themes of judgment and sacrifice victory that are associated with the Messiah. So good
39:04
catch there unless you read in the commentary and pawned off as your own. And that's plagiarism,
39:08
sir. And we do not appreciate that here at the 40 table. We try to give credit to people as much
39:12
as possible. But, uh, but leave it or not, we've made it all the way to the very final chapter
39:17
of Genesis. And so, uh, yeah, I guess we can take another volunteer who wants to run and finish
39:22
it all off. Why? I mean, gosh, I guess if you're volunteering, well, I'll tell you what,
39:26
you can read one through 21 and then Derek will be the final, uh, the final stuff on 22 through 28.
39:32
So one through 21 of Genesis 50.
39:36
Then Joseph fell on his father's face and wept over him and kissed him and Joseph commanded his
39:41
servants and the physicians to embalm his father. So the physicians embalmed Israel 40 days are
39:46
required for it. For that is how many are required for embalming and the Egyptians went for him
39:52
70 days. And when the days of weeping for him were passed, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh
39:57
saying, if now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh saying,
40:03
my father made me swear saying I am about to die in my tomb that I have hewed out for myself in the
40:10
land of Canaan. There shall you bury me. Now therefore let me please go up and bury my father,
40:17
then I will return. And Pharaoh answered, go up and bury your father as he made you swear.
40:22
So Joseph went up to bury his father. With him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders
40:28
of his household and all the elders of the land of Egypt, as well as the household of Joseph,
40:33
his brothers and his father's household, only their children, their flocks and their herds were
40:38
left in the land of Goshen. And there went up with him, both chariots and horsemen. It was a very
40:44
great company. When they came to the threshing flora of a Todd, which is beyond the Jordan,
40:51
they lamented there with a very great and grievous lamentation. And he made a morning for his father
40:59
seven days. When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites saw the morning on the threshing
41:05
flora of a Todd, they said, this is a grievous morning by the Egyptians. Therefore, the place
41:12
was named Abel Miseram. It is a it is beyond the Jordan, thus his sons did for him as he had
41:20
commanded them. For his sons carried him to the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave
41:26
of the field of Macpala to the east of Monterey, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron,
41:34
the Hittite, to possess as a bearing place. After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to
41:40
Egypt with his brothers and all who had gone up with him to bury his father. Through twenty-one.
41:46
Oh, through twenty-one? When Joseph's brother saw that their father was dead, they said,
41:52
it may be that Joseph will hate us and pay us back for all the evil we that we did to him.
41:57
So they sent a message to Joseph saying, your father gave this command before he died.
42:03
Man, these guys say to Joseph, please forgive the transgressions of your brothers and their sin
42:09
because they did evil to you. And now please forgive the transgressions of the servants of God
42:14
of your father. Joseph wept when they spoke to him. His brothers also came and fell down before
42:21
him and said, behold, we are your servants. But Joseph said to them, do not fear for I am in the
42:25
place for I'm in the place of God. Ask for you meant for evil against me, but God meant it for good
42:32
to bring it about that many people should be kept alive as they are today. So do not fear,
42:37
I will provide for you and your little ones. Thus be comforted. Does he comforted them and
42:44
spoke kindly to them? Yeah, I mean, with this, especially with that last section, you have Joseph's
42:49
brothers. There's still pieces of work here. There's no mourning initially. Apparently,
42:53
it's just, you know, selfish concern, right? You know, is this has it's all been an act?
42:58
But now daddy's gone. Like, is this going to be a problem? But I mean, gosh, some of the most
43:03
powerful verses in Genesis, if not the entire Bible. But Joseph said to them, do not fear for am I
43:08
in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good to bring it
43:14
about that many people should be kept alive as they are today. I mean, this, I just immediately
43:18
think about the crucifixion of Christ. And again, the disciples just not picking up on the thread,
43:24
as none of us would have had we been there either not knowing what was going to happen. And then,
43:28
you know, your leader, your rabbi has killed and you think that's it. This is game over. There is
43:32
no coming back from this. And you know, obviously the Jews and the people that were involved Rome
43:39
and all that with the killing of Jesus, you know, obviously I for you, I don't know if it was you
43:44
last week or something like that. That was a quote that you read maybe his last week or two weeks ago,
43:47
where it's just like, you know, Satan, gosh, he's just he's got it all together because he's not
43:51
omniscient, right? He's not omnipresent. Oh, I guess he might be omniscient. So he's he's not
43:57
omni anything, right? But he's really, really good. And he's a lot of places, right? He kind of has
44:00
a really a good idea. And how many things did he have to get in place to kill Jesus, right? To
44:05
get them to, you know, they were just screaming hosanna a few days ago. And now, you know, they're
44:09
they're basically selling yelling crucified. It's like he got it all squared away for this exact
44:13
moment. And oh, just kidding. God meant this. Like this was meant for it from the beginning.
44:18
And Howard and I kind of Howard works with him. We were talking about him. He and I had a conversation
44:22
where he's like, he posed a question to me. He's like, man, one of my guys in my Bible study asked
44:26
me, he goes, is God the author of sin? Because sin is used, you know, as you said in that last
44:33
couple weeks ago, yeah, that, um, what was it? That is a comment. There's yeah, there's there's
44:40
there's a basically an ang, there's a word that somewhere in between, uh, cause and allows. Yes,
44:47
that would describe what God does within his creation. And so when we talked about that,
44:52
I was like, I was like, God is not the author of sin. What God is is the author of redemption.
44:57
And so, you know, sin can author certain things in our life, but God will take that sin and use
45:03
it for good. And he will, he will redeem it. And that's what we see through Joseph. That's what
45:09
we see through Jesus Christ is that what people meant for evil, God meant for good. I think,
45:15
when you look at verse 20 here, I mean, isn't it kind of the entire point of the Genesis story?
45:22
I mean, we get introduced to the idea of blessing literally right off the bat,
45:28
like from creation, a blessing in and of itself. And then once the decision for rebellion is made,
45:36
sin and blessing continue together. I mean, you see, you see the humanity growing in their sin,
45:44
and you see righteousness grow in those who God has essentially selected, you know, for
45:52
to carry out his plan. So you see Noah, you know, the righteousness of Noah, and God sees that and
45:58
says, that's my man right there. See it Abraham, you see it in Jacob, you see it in Joseph.
46:05
But over and over again, you're seeing this and you see this righteousness grow, but
46:11
why would God create a world that he knew would go awry? Why did God allow the serpent into the
46:16
garden? Why did God not eliminate sin as soon as it started? Why do we live in a fallen world?
46:22
Why is there evil and suffering? And literally, I guess I would say,
46:28
kind of doesn't matter, does it? Because if you kind of think about it, we see throughout Genesis,
46:35
evil, horrible acts occurring over and over and over again, sinful things. And yet every time
46:44
God has his pieces in place for checkmate to essentially outflank them. And you see that. And
46:50
that's, I mean, to me, when you read verse 20, you're going, yeah, okay, what you intended for evil,
46:56
God intended for good. I would actually say, I mean, to me, it's as simple as that. It's,
47:04
I could, you could be an absolute like God is essentially going to corner you at some point.
47:09
He will corner you at some point, you will have to make a move.
47:13
It's what I was talking about with the chess thing a couple of weeks ago. At some point,
47:17
he's going to have checkmate on you. I mean, it's just you're going to end up doing what he
47:22
wants in the end. I would not be playing another game on chess.com. I get it. It was an embarrassing
47:27
experience. I lost to a robot. Yeah. That looked like a male age man.
47:31
Listen, everybody does. There's nothing to be ashamed of. I'm telling you, like, very, very
47:36
great, like great chess players, like, can't, like, they are more challenged by a computer than
47:41
they are typically by people. Yeah. However, they're playing like things that have like quantum
47:45
computing. I went to chess.com and I picked the lowest level of guy and got beat by that person.
47:52
Okay. So, you know, here we go. But Derek, we are going to be ending Genesis with you.
47:56
So you put that mustache on the mic and you go ahead and read 22 through the end of the book.
48:00
Let's go. So Joseph remained in Egypt. He and his father's house. Joseph lived 110 years and Joseph
48:08
saw F. Ram's children of the third generation. The children also of Makir, the son of Manasseh,
48:16
were counted as Joseph's own. And Joseph said to his brothers, "I'm about to die,
48:21
but God will visit you and bring you out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham,
48:26
to Isaac, and to Jacob." Then Joseph made the sons of Israel swear, saying, "God will surely
48:32
visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here." So Joseph died being 110 years old. They
48:38
embalmed him and he was put in the coffin in Egypt. That wraps up Genesis. So, guys, before we
48:45
announce the next book of the Bible that we are getting into, I would like to get all of your
48:50
thoughts on Genesis, any big things that kind of came through for you as we wrap this up.
48:56
A lot of good work by our crew. So shout out to everybody that recorded during Genesis.
49:01
I think Genesis is a book that over and over again, we can kind of see transformation.
49:09
And why does transformation happen? I think, number one, you have to kind of want it to happen.
49:19
But I think especially when you look at God, like sometimes God has to break you. God broke
49:26
Jacob quite literally. God broke Judah at the end here that the idea of self-will,
49:35
self-sufficiency, self-indulgent, self-reliance, self-satisfaction, self-centeredness, self-conceit
49:40
and self-preservation, don't simply go away because we tell them to. That complete surrender
49:46
is the only way that transformation occurs. And I think, again, I think there's so many
49:52
examples throughout Genesis where you see that complete submission and that I cannot rely on
49:59
myself. I'm not going to self my way out of this. I have to rely on God. I have to turn to Him.
50:05
I can tell you right now, I'm dealing with some stuff right now professionally that I'm just going
50:12
like, I can will my way out of this. I'll work harder. And at some point,
50:18
probably today because this is a good reminder, but at some point I have to just stop and just go,
50:24
God, what do I do? How do I handle this? I'm obviously missing something. So anyways,
50:31
that's what I would take out of it. Very good. Mr. Horn.
50:37
When I look at Genesis, I like to think of Hebrews 13-8. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday,
50:45
today and forever. We're talking about the Trinity here. God is the same
50:50
yesterday and today and forever. And when I read through Genesis, I see just normal people like us
50:59
who God has chosen to do incredible things. And those people through times and trials and tribulations
51:07
had doubt, self doubt, they had doubt in God. Even though God could sit there and tell them,
51:13
I'm going to give you the number of descendants as they are the stars, if they're sand on the ground.
51:20
But you have no air and you still doubt like Abraham did, but God came through. God is a person.
51:28
God is a God of his word. And it doesn't matter what you do, he's going to stay with his word.
51:34
And he did that with Abraham, even through Abraham's doubt of him and Sarah having Ishmael.
51:39
And he's going to do the same thing with Isaac. Isaac had his doubts in regards to Jacob,
51:44
but his plan was Jacob. And Jacob had his doubts and God was still faithful. And that's one thing
51:51
that I look at when I look through Genesis. It just really made me look at how God is faithful,
51:57
even through our faithlessness, and that it just emboldened my faith in what God can do.
52:03
All right, very good. Derek.
52:05
Yeah, man. I love the story, just the whole, like, I was just listening to a podcast talking
52:13
about how important stories are, the way we interpret things. And there's so many
52:20
amazing stories just in Genesis. We haven't got to, you know, access to that yet.
52:25
And just how we can relate, you know, thousands of years ago to what's happening here. I thought
52:32
that's super cool. And then just the recency bias of Joseph, the story here, just how, you know,
52:39
good life, he's chosen, his life falls apart. But he stays faithful. He works up. He becomes
52:46
head of the household for Potiphar, and then back in jail, but he stays faithful, works hard.
52:52
God blesses him. So, and then all the way through, he's blessed throughout the whole thing, but he
52:57
never wavers in his faith, at least fully. So just like, yeah, continue to trust in Lord,
53:07
even when times are hard, that he is going to be faithful to work all things together for good
53:13
for you. So it's pretty cool. Yeah, I think I want to go all the way back to the garden just to say,
53:19
Satan was a dragon, Ryan. I'm just saying, like, I know you're not real big on the whole dragon
53:26
thing, but can we just go ahead and admit that Satan's a dragon? Come on, even Bible AI thought
53:31
that. Say it was a dragon. You know what? The only reason I think Satan was probably a dragon is
53:36
because there's dragons and Tolkien movies. Don't we can't come to you in here, but, you know,
53:43
in all actuality, because, you know, I was a little nervous about those first parts of Genesis,
53:46
because, you know, you get into young earth, old earth, and you get into, well, I've been to Kentucky,
53:49
so I know everything. And so, because I saw a big boat in the middle of a field and all that.
53:53
Yeah. That's why he got no. That's right. But really, I'm kind of struck by Joseph as well.
54:00
I mean, Ryan, I mean, you said Joseph, you know, when your favorite character is in the Bible,
54:03
because, you know, we did a ranking or like a draft of like guys, people from the Bible that
54:10
we would want to do dinner with. And I never really even considered, you know, Joseph, whenever
54:13
I was like, make my like cheat sheet of like who I want at my table or whatever. But it's because
54:18
I struggle so much with perspective, because whenever I have something that's a that's an
54:24
obstacle, that can be really, really small or absolutely soul crushing. I treated all with the
54:29
same amount of [inaudible] and vinegar and anger and like, and then I can do this in this grid and
54:33
this resilience and on the guy that says that you need to do that. And so I need to model it.
54:36
And it's just like, man, I'm sure Joseph had his moments, right? You know, we don't see any of them
54:42
really here, where you kind of like doubted or any of those types of things. But it's just like,
54:47
we live in an era where justice is this word that's just kind of bandied about cheaply, right? You
54:52
know, social justice or, you know, justice for, you know, some sort of like microaggression,
54:57
like we just live in that culture. And it's like, he suffered so much injustice throughout his life
55:04
from being sold into slavery all the way through to even whenever he was, you know, at Potiphar's
55:10
house and just different things along the way. And even it was an injustice in a way that he had
55:15
to face his brothers without immediately telling them who he was. There's injustice in that too.
55:19
And I have a strong justice bend in my personality. That's why I'm so vehemently
55:25
and ardently against abortion, because it's one of the most unjust things. It's the most
55:30
bullying thing that I could possibly think of. You know, it's one thing when a big person picks
55:34
on a small person. It's another thing when a big person kills a small person that can't protect
55:38
themselves. And so I think just studying Joseph and seeing, you know, you have these times where
55:44
you get this woe is me moment, this Nancy Kerrigan moment, why me? And you're just sitting there like
55:48
crying on the ice. And it's just kind of like, I've been, I've been there sitting there crying
55:52
on the ice about how terrible things are happening to me and all that. But just that little bit of
55:57
perspective every now and then my wife will kind of smack me around. I'll say something that's kind
56:00
of negative even about undaunted life. She'll just be like, Hey, weren't you just telling me yesterday
56:04
about two guys that emailed you from different parts of the world saying how the words you say
56:09
into a microphone are helping them be a better husband and father. And she'll just kind of ask
56:14
me that I'm like, Oh, you know, just little things like that. And the impact that we've been able to
56:18
have around this table, modeling Bible study like this, right? And this all came out of
56:24
disobedience by me, right? Because I wasn't staying true. I wasn't studying the word of God. I was
56:29
doing a lot of reading, but I wasn't reading the word of God. And then here we are years later,
56:33
we've tackled dozens and dozens and dozens of chapters of the Bible. And it's I feel I don't feel
56:39
like it's all culminating in this moment. But I do feel the weight of the announcement of the next
56:44
book of the Bible that we're going to be getting into. We're going to be doing Romans. And so this
56:49
is something that we've talked about for a while. Usually the next book kind of becomes pretty apparent
56:56
to me. But I wanted to get some confirmation from our group of guys got about 10 or so guys that
57:01
rotate in. But I do want to let everybody know that's listened this far in. We're going to be
57:05
approaching Romans differently than we have any other book of the Bible, differently the Matthew,
57:10
Ax, Nehemiah, everything. Romans feel so big. And I was talking to Matt Chandler and he was like,
57:17
look, Romans is Mount Everest. And you don't try to climb Mount Everest as fast as possible. You
57:23
climb Mount Everest as fast as is appropriate, right? And so there are 16 chapters of the book
57:30
of Romans. And so we're not going to be doing Romans one one week and then Romans to the next and
57:34
then Romans three. What we've decided as a group, it's going to be an experiment. It's going to be a
57:38
little bit weird. It's going to be a challenge to all of us is we are going to start next week,
57:42
guys, in Romans one one. Okay, Romans one one, we're going to hit the timer. We're going to hit record.
57:49
We're just going to go for about an hour. See how far we get. So we may get to Romans one nine,
57:55
right? And so then the next week, we'll pick right back up there. The way we're all looking at it,
58:00
because everyone's been buying different commentaries, different study books and different things.
58:04
We got a whole bunch over there in the, you know, the forging table library. We very well may be
58:09
in Romans for a year, right? And that's just how we're going to treat it. So because I know behind
58:14
the scenes, you guys don't really know this and even guys sitting at the table, you don't really
58:17
know what's going through my head. I'm seeing everything that we need to cover. And then there's
58:23
little jokes and little side stories and all that. And then, okay, how long do we let that go?
58:27
Because I'm still, I'm still driving. I got to make sure we get to the next thing because
58:30
we got time and, you know, we don't want people have the only bargain for an hour. We can't give
58:34
an hour and 10 minutes of those types of things. So we're going to kind of take our hands off the
58:38
wheel just a little bit. We're going to follow some rabbit trails. And this is one of those
58:42
things whenever I talk to you guys on the backports at one night and I pitched all the idea of doing
58:46
it this way to where it's like, this is going to require a different level of preparation for all of
58:50
us. Because all of us need to be in Romans for the next year. My wife is, you know, going to be
58:55
communicating with the other wife, she's going to be letting them know, hey, they covered Romans
58:58
one one through Romans one seven, you know, for this, you know, or I don't know how many we would
59:04
probably cover it, maybe a couple of chapters over like four recordings or something like that.
59:07
And so it's a group of people where we're pretty much all doing life together. We're pretty much
59:12
in the same Sunday schools are in kind of the same communities. And we're going to be going through
59:16
the giant of all the Pauline letters, right? And so I just feel like we've been sitting on
59:23
this for so long. And then I finally get to tell everyone about it. And then, you know, next time
59:28
we record, we'll actually be getting into it. So guys, very, very thankful for all three of you.
59:32
Thank you to everyone in the audience for watching all these episodes on Genesis. And you know,
59:37
make sure you're sharing this around. So if you got guys in your life, they're like, I don't really
59:39
know how to do this. I don't really know what to do for our Bible study. Just cheat, do exactly what
59:43
we're doing. So whatever we're doing this week, that's what you're doing for next week or something
59:46
like that. But we're going to go ahead and leave it there. We have wrapped up Genesis. Quick
59:50
resilience boost before we let you guys out of here at Undaunted Life, our mission is equipping
59:53
men to push back darkness with content that for just spiritual mental and physical resilience.
59:57
Crossway, we love crossway. We love talking to their authors. They have a forging table starter
1:00:01
set on their website. If you want that and you want to get it at a supreme discount, go to the
1:00:05
show notes and you'll see the instructions for that log us Bible software, which we will be
1:00:08
leaning on heavily during Romans along with some other materials. You should be able to use that,
1:00:13
guys, but use it as discount. The discount code link is there in the show notes. And then also,
1:00:18
we're a donation based ministry. There's no way we can pull off what we're doing with the forging
1:00:21
table or with anything else that we're doing without guys just like you and and and if you
1:00:25
hung with us all the way to the beginning, there may be a nice special guest for the first few
1:00:28
recordings of Romans. So make sure you tune in next week. Thank you for listening to this podcast.
