0:15
Yeah, it wasn't.

This is Undaunted Life a Man's Podcast.
0:54
I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:56
Let's get into it.
1:00
Wow, I failed, I have one job.
1:01
You know, Atlanta, just leave all that in, leave the club in there.
1:05
You had one job, Sam.
1:06
I don't understand what it is about this thing.
1:09
Is this the most complicated thing on the planet Earth?
1:12
I'm old for you.
1:13
I mean, you got a Wharton grad, and here's an Olympian right here and they still can't
1:18
figure it out.
1:19
No, I get it.
1:20
All you gotta do is tap it in the blue guys.
1:21
That's what this is in the middle of the table.
1:23
It's not a hockey puck.
1:24
What in the world, Sam?
1:25
He grabbed it earlier and it switched to 99.
1:28
It's kind of like, it's kind of like a jujitsu move.
1:31
You got to double tap it when you're when you're ready, you can't say it, but double
1:34
same.
1:35
Can you do my intro?
1:36
Okay.
1:37
Here we go.
1:38
Welcome back to the forging table.
1:39
The mission of Undaunted Light.
1:42
Undaunted Light.
1:43
What is this?
1:44
The light version of Undaunted like beta.
1:46
Okay.
1:47
Here we go.
1:48
Welcome back to Undaunted Life.
1:49
The forging table.
1:50
The mission of Undaunted Life is equipment men to push back darkness with content that
1:53
forges, spiritual, mental and physical resilience at the forging table.
1:56
You'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience by digging into God's
1:59
Word and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with us.
2:01
We got OG Ryan in the house.
2:02
We also got Howard Wicker-Sham and we got Sam Hayes-Winkle.
2:05
So Sam, this is your second trip.
2:06
Howard, is this your second trip as well?
2:07
I think this is my third.
2:09
Third.
2:10
Okay.
2:11
So we got a sophomore journey over here with Sam.
2:12
But first, before we get too far into this episode, Ryan, what's your essence right now?
2:17
What's your essence?
2:18
We did an update.
2:19
I was wearing original Santah this morning at church.
2:22
All Santah.
2:23
Okay.
2:24
Very good.
2:25
But today, right now I'm wearing biking.
2:26
Right.
2:27
Okay.
2:28
I like that a lot.
2:29
But you know what I like even better?
2:30
It's a good choice.
2:31
As I was getting ready for the forging table.
2:32
So, you know, a church this morning, come home, do some lunch and I'm getting ready.
2:35
I'm going through my drawer in the bathroom and wouldn't you know it?
2:40
I found the last clone that I ever wore.
2:43
Is that cool water?
2:44
Which this is Davidoff Coolwater-Lubik's podcast.
2:47
I wore that when I was six.
2:50
This shut up.
2:52
I had this bottle.
2:53
Okay.
2:54
So, this bottle has not been used.
2:57
I've been in this house for I think eight years and I don't know that I use it in the
3:00
house before this and so.
3:02
But I just because it's been a while since you told us the proper way to put on and look
3:06
how much is left in here.
3:07
It's a little travel one.
3:08
There's just enough to get me through your description about to put on clone.
3:12
So, I'm going to push the mic away here and you are going to and I'm just going to do
3:16
what you tell me to do with this within recent damage.
3:18
All right.
3:19
So, here we go.
3:20
All right.
3:21
Spray twice on your spray once on your right shoulder.
3:26
Left shoulder.
3:27
Hold on.
3:28
There.
3:29
Left shoulder.
3:30
Okay.
3:31
And then your back neck.
3:32
And then spray twice on your left wrist.
3:35
That's a lot of cologne.
3:36
Yeah.
3:37
Almost.
3:38
And then just tap that together and then rub it on your chair on your neck.
3:44
There you go.
3:45
Man, Kyle, this is the best you've ever smelled.
3:46
This is better than the smelling salts.
3:48
Yeah.
3:49
How's my essence, guys?
3:50
I recognize it.
3:51
I recognize it.
3:52
I recognize it.
3:53
You recognize my essence.
3:54
Man, I haven't smelled cool water since elementary school, man.
3:56
It's kind of weird.
3:57
Boom.
3:58
Hit it.
3:59
You can just lean across the table, Howard, if you want to get it.
4:00
Get all on this.
4:01
Oh, God.
4:02
It's so strong.
4:04
It's very strong.
4:05
They don't make it like they used to.
4:06
No, I guess not.
4:07
But I mean, that bottle couldn't be like they used to.
4:10
That bottle is probably for 13 years old.
4:12
Wait, does it change?
4:14
Is it like a wine?
4:15
I don't know.
4:16
Does it change in the thing?
4:17
Does it get better?
4:18
Does it get better with time?
4:19
Yeah.
4:20
I think I'd rather have the smelling salts than smelling like this.
4:23
I smell like Macy's.
4:24
This is a problem.
4:25
Why are you hating on this?
4:26
Oh, I haven't smelled that since elementary school.
4:28
Is it just like...
4:29
No, because...
4:30
No.
4:31
I like cool water.
4:32
Is this what poor people wear?
4:33
Is that what you're saying?
4:34
It's not what poor people wear.
4:35
No.
4:36
Is this like the ant's body spray of cool water?
4:37
I'm just saying that...
4:38
No, that's like...
4:39
No.
4:40
No.
4:41
Cool water is just really old.
4:42
It's just not really one that you really smell around anymore.
4:45
There's some more updated ones like spice bomb or Chanel blue, stuff like that.
4:51
So I just haven't smelled cool water since elementary school.
4:54
Honestly, it's just an older cologne.
4:55
It's not a bad cologne.
4:56
It's just old.
4:57
Well, I know for the first time in forging table history, there are competing essences
5:01
on the...
5:02
On the room.
5:03
On this side of the table.
5:04
It smells bad.
5:05
Kyle, you beat me.
5:06
You smell so much better than I do.
5:07
I don't like what I smell like right now because I never smell.
5:10
I always just smell like me.
5:11
I just smell like my own musk.
5:13
But you know what?
5:14
I do got to say, right from the beginning, Sam, guys, the folks out there in YouTube land
5:19
and on...
5:20
Oh, everyone listen to this, Sam for the second time on this show is saving our bacon because
5:25
we had a last minute issues when I lost a family member and so Sam, you were my first
5:33
phone call and I was like, "Brother, we need you.
5:36
You got like three days and I think we're hitting on this batch.
5:39
We're hitting like six chapters of Genesis."
5:41
And we had to adjust the time and move it around a little bit and it was good to go.
5:44
And so I was just going to come on here and say, "Hey, how thankful we are for you and
5:49
how good it was."
5:50
But the problem was you opened your trap, okay?
5:53
Yes.
5:54
And in the new group text that I set up for this group for today, this was you, okay?
5:58
I said, "Hey, we had to change some time to accommodate.
6:01
Thank you so much, Sam.
6:02
Really appreciative of Flexibility, blah, blah, blah."
6:04
You decide to say this.
6:05
Let's go.
6:06
We got all the bases covered here.
6:08
All guy, short guy, bald guy, and the ugly redhead guy.
6:13
Nailed it.
6:14
Sounds like an all-star cast.
6:16
Well, here's the thing.
6:17
We got stinky ugly.
6:18
You just...
6:19
You describe Howard just as tall.
6:22
You describe yourself just as short.
6:24
You do him just as bald so everybody gets one thing about them, but you give me two things.
6:30
Ugly redhead guy.
6:32
So when you think Kyle, when you think like, "Oh, Kyle just pops into your head, those
6:36
are the first two things that we go to."
6:40
There's not even a story behind that.
6:41
You just literally think I'm an ugly redheaded guy?
6:44
Sam.
6:45
Well, I have some mothers and I...
6:47
It's a lot of...
6:48
You feel like you're playing with house money right now because you're like, "I am saving
6:51
Kyle's butt by being the fourth guy on the 14th table so I can be a guy."
6:54
I can.
6:55
That's rude.
6:56
He's like, "You're putting me through this.
6:57
I'm going to throw something at you."
6:59
Yes.
7:00
I don't really appreciate that very much.
7:01
I thought it was a compliment.
7:03
Ugly guy is usually tougher, which part of it was a compliment.
7:07
Ugly guy and redhead, unless you don't find that.
7:11
Well, no.
7:12
See, you don't find redheaded people on the track.
7:14
We are a walking recessive gene.
7:16
Basically every recessive trait is in me at all times.
7:19
Sure.
7:20
No one's like super...
7:21
Maybe a little short.
7:22
Well, sure.
7:23
Why in the world do you think we always have to put the huge goony people there right there
7:26
in that corner?
7:27
You and Jake Winkler, you'll never sit in another seat because it's y'all sat right
7:31
here.
7:32
No one will be able to see me.
7:33
I have expected him to be here.
7:34
Jake's a tree.
7:35
See me.
7:36
Just hide Sam in the corner.
7:37
But Sam in the corner.
7:38
Hey, I think that might be...
7:39
Nobody put Sam in the corner.
7:40
Thank you.
7:41
Is this the biggest height discrepancy in the history of that side of the table?
7:46
Probably.
7:47
Yeah.
7:48
Okay.
7:49
Howard, how tall are you?
7:50
Six, six.
7:51
Six, six.
7:52
Sam.
7:53
Seven, two.
7:54
Shut up.
7:55
How tall are you, Sam?
7:56
Tell us.
7:57
Everyone say five, five, five, five.
7:58
So when they...
7:59
So five, he's five, three.
8:00
Very cold, they can switch to you could do like your doctor's over Zoom, which is crazy
8:05
to be.
8:06
Yeah.
8:07
But they'd be like, how tall are you?
8:08
I'm like, six foot.
8:09
Sam.
8:10
Sam.
8:11
Every time.
8:12
The ladies would be like, okay, six foot.
8:13
That's like my weight on my driver's license.
8:15
Yes.
8:16
I loved it.
8:17
So there's literally a foot difference in height between the two of you.
8:20
Well, when we came in, I gave him the bro hug, you know, and...
8:23
And he like brushed up against your belly button.
8:25
Yeah.
8:26
I'm by the motor button.
8:29
Wow.
8:30
The amount of smell is essence.
8:32
Yeah.
8:33
What is essence like?
8:34
How are we having essence on our body?
8:36
Is there anything that we...
8:37
No essence today.
8:38
It's gone.
8:39
It's got weird.
8:40
Just today.
8:41
What does Lady Wickersham like to smell?
8:42
Aquadigio.
8:43
Aquadigio.
8:44
Yeah.
8:45
See, Sam, do you wear any column?
8:46
Is anyone...
8:47
No.
8:48
No.
8:49
That's like once a month, I'll put that on, but that's rare.
8:51
What date night?
8:52
Yeah.
8:53
No, he just does that.
8:54
I'm doing four kids.
8:55
There's not too many date nights right now.
8:56
I mean, it's important though.
8:58
It is.
8:59
I'm going to, you know, people on the internet, like if you don't go on dates, things don't
9:02
go well.
9:03
No.
9:04
Can we plan it?
9:05
You just have to rearrange it sometimes.
9:06
So what's a good date in the Wickersham household?
9:09
You and Lady Wickersham are going to do something?
9:11
Give us an idea.
9:12
What do you all like to do?
9:13
We'll go to town, go to dinner, go shopping, you know, home depot, you know, go to town.
9:17
You have no time.
9:18
Maybe when you live.
9:19
Yeah.
9:20
Don't go to town.
9:21
Go to town.
9:22
But you don't live far from me.
9:23
Yeah.
9:24
What are you talking about?
9:25
I'm going to get through.
9:26
So I'm 20 minutes from...
9:27
It gets in this wagon.
9:28
Go to the trading depot, like get some pemma can.
9:31
No.
9:32
I mean, we'll go downtown and go to Oklahoma City, you know, get some rot candy.
9:36
We'll go to a concert once in a while.
9:38
I took her to a Michael Boo Blake concert.
9:40
Oh.
9:41
That was pretty good.
9:42
Fancy.
9:43
I was about to say, what kind of concert?
9:44
Because I do know that Lady Wickersham knows about the Wu tank.
9:47
She knows about the Wu tank.
9:48
She will throw out the Wu tank.
9:49
She will throw out the Wu if she needs to protect your neck.
9:51
That's what I'm just saying.
9:52
When you're around, Lady Wickersham is protecting your neck.
9:54
She's got the vibes on music way more than I do.
9:57
I won a couple's night and she started playing genuine.
10:00
Oh.
10:01
When we did the face painting?
10:03
Yeah.
10:04
Yeah.
10:05
We had some good...
10:06
Jeep the DJ in our house.
10:07
Yeah.
10:08
So it is kind of interesting because we're doing this thing, which I was really not looking
10:11
forward to, but it's where you paint your partner, right?
10:14
Not actually their body or whatever their face, but you each have a canvas and you've
10:18
got paint in front of you and you have to paint what you see in the other person or whatever
10:21
you have to do your best.
10:22
And the funny thing about it is no one's really an artist.
10:24
And so it doesn't exactly get you close by, but one of the most enjoyable parts was whenever
10:30
your wife took over the Bluetooth speaker.
10:32
And I was just like, because she's the most sourdough, like very woman, like the person
10:37
that's like her persona, and it was like what I would have listened to in high school.
10:41
And I'm just kind of like, where did this come from?
10:44
And she's just saying all the lyrics to everything and I was like, "Lady Wickersham, what are
10:49
the odds?"
10:50
She likes the party.
10:51
Yeah.
10:52
She does like the party a little bit.
10:53
There was a little bit of investigation.
10:55
Do we need to get into the scripture?
10:56
Do we need to get in?
10:57
Should we save the investigation and what you were telling you about for it?
11:00
Yeah, yeah.
11:01
Let's talk about that next week.
11:02
Okay.
11:03
We'll talk about it next week.
11:04
Let's go ahead and get into Genesis 26.
11:05
So I know throughout Genesis, we've been doing, you know, one chapter here and then sometimes
11:08
we'll, you know, double or even triple up the chapters.
11:10
We're just hitting Genesis 26 today.
11:13
So Mr. Wickersham, let's kick off Genesis 26 with the first five verses.
11:17
Okay.
11:18
Now there was a famine in the land beside the former famine that was in the days of Abraham.
11:23
"And Isaac went to Garah to Abimah like the king of the Philistines, and the Lord appeared
11:28
to him and said, 'Do not go down to Egypt, dwell in the land of which I shall tell you,
11:36
sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you.
11:40
For to you and to your offspring I will give all of these lands, and I will establish the
11:47
oath that I swore to Abraham, your father.
11:50
I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the heavens, and will give to your offspring
11:56
all these lands, and in your offspring all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
12:02
because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statues, and
12:07
my laws."
12:09
So right here we get into a discussion about, so there's a famine in the land, we see this,
12:16
and there's a lot of things that are going on right now for Isaac that really go back
12:21
to what we saw with Abraham.
12:23
So there is a famine, there's issues with the Philistines, but really just going back
12:27
to verse one, this exposed Isaac and his family to danger.
12:31
So whenever they're going through this area, going to Garah to Abimah like the king of
12:36
the Philistines, they were being open to danger here, but they still had the protection and
12:40
cover of God.
12:41
So let's just chat about these first five verses here, whatever you guys got.
12:45
Well, I put kind of the two same things down, but the similarities between him and Abraham,
12:52
and we'll get into more as we read down through there, but again, the first one was the promises
12:57
of God, similar to Isaac to Abraham is when he promises that he will be with him.
13:04
He has all those similar promises that Abraham had, so those are the first things that came
13:09
to me.
13:10
He's like testing his faith and the fact that he says with this famine is God going to provide,
13:18
having to head down south, some place I've never been before, and God I think is trying
13:23
to draw out obedience from him as well.
13:26
But he also reassures him and he reassures him by giving the same promise that he gave
13:30
his father.
13:31
Yeah, I think the father part is what I like, I hope the generational blessings, I hope
13:42
my son is blessed because of what I do, and his son is blessed because of what I do.
13:47
And I know I feel very much blessed because of the way my dad lived, and I get to hear
13:52
it all the time on the wrestling side.
13:56
You come up to me all the time like man, your dad, and it's crazy because I get to hear
14:01
like he was a great wrestler, but way more.
14:04
I hear like man, your dad led me to the Lord, and he was such a good soul, a good person,
14:09
and he's touched so many lives that, oh, and he was a great wrestler.
14:13
Which to me is a blessing, and I really hope and pray that's like what happens with me,
14:19
my son, that he hears a lot more about man, your dad really touched my life and helped
14:24
me lead me to the Lord way more than I hope the wrestling side, and I really want the
14:30
wrestling side.
14:31
Well, Sam, I actually do want to go into that a little bit deeper just because you do have
14:35
a unique background.
14:37
You were on the Olympic team, you went as part of the Greco wrestling team.
14:41
But typically when you see these great wrestlers, because a few months ago there was the nationals
14:46
and all that, typically dad was a wrestler, right?
14:49
And a lot of times dad was a wrestling coach.
14:52
You just see that with these great wrestlers as dad was a wrestling coach.
14:55
And so try to give people an understanding of like, okay, what levels did your dad coach
15:00
at?
15:01
Kind of like his range, because I mean, being an Olympic wrestler is such a rare feat.
15:08
And when your son can reach that level, you don't normally see this deep long progeny
15:14
of wrestlers.
15:15
So like there's, like when's the last time there was a wrestler that won the national
15:19
tournament and their father was also a national champion.
15:21
Like not very many.
15:22
Yeah.
15:23
I can't think of any off top of my head, but kind of give us a sense of what that looks
15:25
like because I think this is really important because Isaac is getting the oath and he's
15:28
continuing this blessing from Abraham, but I think goes right in line with what you're
15:33
saying.
15:34
Yeah.
15:35
It doesn't happen much.
15:36
I know we just had the first American kid that won Worlds, whose dad also won Worlds,
15:43
but his dad wrestled for Russia at the time.
15:44
So does it count?
15:45
Let's count it.
15:46
They're American now, but until that, I mean, my dad and I are the only in wrestling father,
15:54
son Olympians.
15:56
And it's funny because he was way better than I was.
16:01
I'm made an Olympic team and I'm not near the top best athlete in the family, which is
16:06
wild.
16:07
Yeah.
16:08
Yeah.
16:09
I mean, I get to brag on him a little, but two time Olympian, him and his twin brother,
16:14
they made six straight world or Olympic teams.
16:17
My dad was the first to be to Russian at Worlds.
16:20
He was the first one to get a silver medal at Worlds, the best we'd done as bronze.
16:24
He was the first one to win back-to-back medals.
16:27
He got a silver and a bronze.
16:30
And basically him and my uncle got wrestling, Greco wrestling, really going in America.
16:37
And he did a great job of not putting like a shadow, like I never felt like I was in his
16:41
shadow, which I hope I do that with Josh.
16:46
I think I am because he's like, man, Olympian, I don't know any good wrestlers.
16:50
Yeah.
16:51
So I'm like, I'm doing something right, I guess, I think.
16:55
But yeah, it doesn't happen a lot.
16:58
And I felt very blessed.
17:00
And I think the stuff he learned and teaching it to me, growing up in it, I didn't realize
17:07
the advantage it was, you know, looking back now, such a huge advantage.
17:14
And he was my coach all the way through.
17:15
He was my coach, little league, high school, until college.
17:19
College was the first time he wasn't my coach.
17:22
And he was coaching at a Christian college, but I went to you and he really wanted me
17:28
to go there with him.
17:29
That would have been something.
17:30
It would have been.
17:31
It would have been.
17:32
It would have been fun.
17:33
You got to go on your track that you need to go.
17:34
And at some point you do have to separate off from your father.
17:36
But kind of to bring that full circle with your dad.
17:41
What's it like for you as a son with his son, but you have a son yourself.
17:46
When you hear about the legacy of your father, because, you know, a lot of guys, mainly male
17:50
audience, we've talked about our father's a little bit on the forging table over the
17:53
years.
17:54
And you know, some guys, we have fathers that are non believers, fathers that you were
17:57
maybe they loved you, but you had to guess because they never said it.
18:01
And dads that just didn't have like legacy and like, you know, for me personally, like
18:06
I love my dad.
18:07
My dad's my biggest fan.
18:08
I've never had someone else come up to me and say, Hey, your dad had this impact on
18:11
me.
18:12
My dad's more of a wallflower kind of a behind the scenes type of guy.
18:15
So for you, like what does it do for you whenever you hear someone come up to you and they don't
18:19
just talk about, man, your dad really taught me this amazing single leg finish or this,
18:24
this great escape from this particular position.
18:26
I get to hear that too.
18:27
Okay.
18:28
Well, but the impact of having someone that's like, Hey, this guy changed the trajectory
18:31
of my spiritual eternity.
18:33
Like that's pretty incredible.
18:35
Yes, it makes me super, super proud, like a, and at the same time, like, hope and I'm
18:41
on that same track, you know, I really pray and try to surround myself with people that
18:50
will push me to do the same because I do.
18:53
I think that's important, important for my son to see.
18:58
And I strive to do the same because I know what it did mean a lot to me.
19:03
It meant a whole lot to me and set a good example.
19:08
When I think it's important, look at verse five, going back to the text here, because
19:12
Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes and my laws.
19:18
I tell guys all the time, don't be the do as I say, not as I do dad, right?
19:24
Don't tell your kids to do their homework when you were a crappy student.
19:28
Don't tell your kids, eat your vegetables or eat your meat and work out, but don't take
19:33
care of yourself in fitness.
19:35
But same thing like spiritually, like imagine the only spiritual formation your kids get
19:40
is when you drop them off at kids, or john Sunday, you know, Sunday or something like
19:44
that.
19:45
And that's the only time they see the Bible open is when someone other than their father
19:48
opens it up.
19:49
Like I can't remember who it was.
19:51
I don't know if it came from family shepherds with Vodie Bockham or just some, somewhere
19:54
in our conversations, but it's like, no, no, no.
19:57
I remember, I remember a lot of people different said it, but Zach, Zach Todd of forging table
20:01
fame.
20:02
A guy who also doesn't know how the timer works.
20:06
He was talking about every time he would study the Bible, it's the timer.
20:09
He was doing it on.
20:10
No, it's not the timer.
20:11
The timer is perfect.
20:12
He would study the Bible on a tablet or on his phone.
20:15
And so when his kids would walk by, he's got a young son and a young daughter, they would
20:19
just see dad on a device, right?
20:21
Yeah, dad's working, you know, dad's busy, that type of thing.
20:23
But he was digging into the word of word of God.
20:26
And so he invested in a very nice leather Bible so that whenever he is studying the word,
20:31
his kids actually see him studying it with it open.
20:33
So it's like it's important whenever your kids see you studying the Bible on your own,
20:38
but also you're leading them through Bible study as well.
20:42
They see you, you know, ask the server at lunch, you know, if you can pray for him, they see
20:47
you sharing the gospel with people.
20:49
Because just imagine you going through the parts of the Bible that talk about evangelism
20:52
and sharing your faith and, you know, taking care of the widows and orphans, but every
20:55
opportunity you get to do something like that, you don't take it.
20:58
I always use that term, more is caught than taught.
21:01
Yeah.
21:02
That's what they're going to catch.
21:03
So, but I do have to ask this.
21:05
So you mentioned it.
21:07
Do you eat salad in front of your kids?
21:10
No, I don't want them to pick up bad habits, right?
21:14
I don't want them like, right?
21:16
Do we need to go back into the salad thing?
21:18
I think that this may have been the maddest you've ever been at me was whenever I refuse
21:24
to eat us out.
21:25
That you're your birthday dinner, and you've been mad at me before, right?
21:28
You've been like, you know, getting, you know, you got the red kind of coming up from your
21:31
shirt and sleeves, like coming up and getting mad.
21:33
My face gets really red.
21:34
Right.
21:35
But they were at this like 74 course meal and they bring out this.
21:38
Oh, yeah.
21:39
Yeah.
21:40
Yeah.
21:41
And nothing in that, nothing on that plate was anything that I would put into my mouth
21:43
and then chew it up and swallow it.
21:45
And you just go, Kyle, are you're not going to eat your salad?
21:47
I'm like, Ryan, I don't, I don't eat this.
21:49
And you just kept going and finally you like grab the salad and put it in front of you as
21:53
if I had like a slap in the face and it's like I slapped your mother and you just brought
21:59
it over here and you just, you ate the salad, but you angrily did it like a angry rabbit.
22:04
You were just like, stupid salad.
22:06
He's like this.
22:07
Well, because we had a chef like personally put this menu together for my birthday and
22:15
deserve it to us and he was going to leave it full on the plate like you could at least
22:19
eight half of it.
22:20
He didn't even touch it around so it looked like some of it.
22:25
Are there foods that you don't like?
22:28
There are foods I don't like.
22:29
Yes.
22:30
Okay.
22:31
So if somebody put an entire plate of foods you don't like in front of you, you would
22:34
sit there and just eat it.
22:35
So you didn't like make the chef feel funny?
22:37
I would eat.
22:38
I would eat some of it.
22:39
Yes.
22:40
I would try it and eat it even if I didn't like it.
22:41
Like, I don't like pickles, but I try pickles at least two or three times a year just to see
22:45
if my taste buds change.
22:46
Your taste buds change every single year.
22:48
And so that's where I'm like, and so that's why I'll try things and if I don't like it,
22:52
I don't like it, but I don't leave it just like as it was prepared in front of me and
22:57
just leave it there.
22:58
So they have to come and pick it back up.
23:00
What if I had done the whole method like move it around on the plate, drop some on the floor
23:03
kind of fine?
23:04
If you would have taken three bites.
23:06
I would have been five.
23:07
Three bites of salad.
23:08
Yes.
23:09
That's so many.
23:10
That's not a lot.
23:11
It's so many.
23:12
Like it's got like onions and lettuce.
23:13
That's what Josh says.
23:14
It had like a, it was like a blueberry dressing.
23:19
It was delicious.
23:20
It had, it didn't even have any onions on it.
23:22
It was a cornbread.
23:23
What do you want to call it, crouton?
23:25
I think I hit the crouton.
23:26
I think I hit the croutons.
23:27
No, you did need the croutons.
23:28
I hit the croutons.
23:29
Are you sure?
23:30
Yes.
23:31
You didn't even touch it.
23:32
That's why I was upset.
23:33
You might be right.
23:34
Well, I did touch the plate.
23:35
I think it was as I was showing it over to you.
23:36
You touched it.
23:37
No, you touched it.
23:38
Put it forward.
23:39
Get away.
23:40
Hey, but I did the normal thing like you're supposed to take your fork and turn it upside
23:42
down and turn it down just to let the people know I am done eating this nonsense.
23:46
Right.
23:47
Please take this away from me.
23:48
It's all good.
23:49
I got two salads that night.
23:50
Bro.
23:51
Yeah.
23:52
Is that a thing?
23:53
You're supposed to turn it upside down?
23:54
Yeah.
23:55
Yeah.
23:56
That's like the knife part of the fork.
23:57
Yeah.
23:58
Knife of the fork.
23:59
You put it down on top of it.
24:00
You cross it.
24:01
Right?
24:02
At least he was polite.
24:03
He was polite.
24:04
And I think that was actually a compliment.
24:05
I feel like I can't a compliment.
24:06
Can we just talk about the fact I'm being choked by the smell of myself right now like every
24:09
single word it's like just this aerosol is just like it's taking me back to the 90s.
24:15
I love it.
24:16
Oh my gosh.
24:17
Like I've been daydreaming about her.
24:18
Like I'm like, man, remember back I was in California in the 90s.
24:21
So let's turn on some red hot chili peppers and get after it, I guess.
24:24
Well, I know where we can get back to the Bible.
24:26
Anybody.
24:27
Let's get back to the Bible.
24:28
Okay.
24:29
So we're going to get into this next section of Genesis 26.
24:32
So Sam, if you would go ahead, it's going to be a nice big chunk for you, Sam.
24:36
If any point you want to tag Ryan in, go for it.
24:40
But we're going to go actually, you know what, I'm going to do your favor, Sam.
24:43
You read six through 16, six or 16 and then Ryan, you're going to finish chapter out for
24:48
us.
24:49
Okay.
24:50
Starting at 17 and it's going to be a beautiful.
24:51
It's going to be the best transition ever.
24:52
Ever.
24:53
Ready to go.
24:54
Never anything like it.
24:56
So Isaac settled in your are, we'll go with it like that guy from North Carolina.
25:03
That's right.
25:04
When the men of the place asked him about his wife, he said, she is my sister for he feared
25:09
to say my wife thinking less the men in the place should kill me because of Rebecca, because
25:15
she was attractive in appearance.
25:17
When he had been there a long time, a bimolek King of the Philistines looked out a window
25:22
and saw Isaac laughing with Rebecca, his wife.
25:25
So a bimolek called Isaac and said, behold, she is your wife.
25:29
How then could you say she is my sister?
25:32
Isaac said to him, because I thought less I die because of her.
25:36
A blimolek said, what is this you have done to us?
25:40
One of the people might easily have lane with their wife and you would have brought guilt
25:44
upon us.
25:45
So a blimolek warned all the people saying, whoever touches this man or his wife shall
25:49
surely be put to death.
25:51
And Isaac sold in that land and reaped in the same year, a hundred fold.
25:54
The Lord blessed him and the man became rich and gained more and more until he became very
26:00
wealthy.
26:01
He had possessions of flocks and herds and many servants.
26:05
So that the Philistines envied him.
26:07
Now the Philistines had stopped and filled with earth all the wells that his father's
26:12
servants had dug in the days of Abraham's father.
26:15
And a blimolek said to Isaac, go away from us for you are much mightier than we.
26:20
So Isaac departed from there and he camped in the valley of Garar and settled there.
26:24
And Isaac dug again the wells of water that had been dug in the days of Abraham's father,
26:29
which the Philistines had stopped after the death of Abraham and he gave them the names
26:33
that his father had given them.
26:36
But when Isaac's servants dug in the valley and found their well of spring water, the
26:40
herdsmen of Garar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen saying, the water is ours.
26:45
So he could, so he called the name of the well, Essex because they contended with him.
26:53
Then they dug another well and they quarreled over that also.
26:59
And so he called it its name Sittna, did I pronounce that correctly?
27:04
I can go for it.
27:05
All right.
27:06
And we, and moved from there and dug another well and they did not quarreled over it.
27:09
So he called its name Rehoboth saying, for now the Lord has made room for us and we shall
27:17
be fruitful in the land.
27:21
From there he went up to Bathsheba and the Lord appeared to him the same night and said,
27:25
I am the God of Abraham, your father, fear not for I am with you and will bless you
27:30
and multiply your offspring from for my servant Abraham's sake.
27:34
So he built an altar there and called upon the name of the Lord and pitched his tent there.
27:39
And there Isaac's servants dug a well.
27:41
What do you mean?
27:42
Hey, we got the first lady in the firstborn of the forging table.
27:48
What's up, James?
27:49
Hey, buddy.
27:50
Hey, you're gonna say something to this mic.
27:52
Yes.
27:53
All right, everybody.
27:55
Hey, what's up?
27:56
Hey, everybody on the camera.
27:58
You see the camera right there has to be cameras.
28:01
All right, sweet baby, James.
28:03
Thank you so much for the tea, buddy.
28:05
Five and thank you to the first lady.
28:07
Hey, James.
28:08
Oh, it's okay.
28:10
Go back.
28:11
Oh, got to give horn five.
28:13
Oh, dude.
28:14
Good one.
28:15
Bring in the heat.
28:16
That's a pretty good one.
28:17
Now, we've got to get some more.
28:21
Bye guys.
28:22
Bye guys.
28:23
I feel like that was worth the pause.
28:24
I was like sitting there, I'm like, what's going on?
28:28
That's what we were talking about.
28:30
We're busy.
28:31
James is going to come up here and make fun of me because I can't read good.
28:34
Yeah, probably.
28:35
All right, let's get back into it.
28:36
All right.
28:37
When Abimelec went from, well, so he built an altar and called upon the name of the Lord
28:42
and he pitched his tent there.
28:43
And there, Isaac's servants dug a well.
28:45
When Abimelec went to him from Gararr with a huzzah, his advisor and fickle.
28:52
Don't, don't, just keep going.
28:56
Just keep going.
28:57
It's not the best.
28:59
Ryan, just keep going, just move past it.
29:04
The command.
29:05
Sorry.
29:06
Sam, your back.
29:07
James.
29:08
I said it.
29:09
I said it.
29:10
Why have you come to me seeing that you hate me and you have sent me away from you?
29:15
They said, we plainly, we see plainly that the Lord has been with you.
29:20
So he said, so he said, let there be a sworn pack between us, between you and us and let
29:25
us make a covenant with you that you will do us no harm just as we have not touched you
29:30
and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace.
29:35
You are now the, you are now the blessed, blessed of the Lord.
29:40
You are now the blessed of the Lord.
29:43
So he made them a feast and they ate and drank.
29:45
In the morning they rose early to exchange oath, Isaac sent them on their way and they
29:50
departed from him in peace.
29:52
That same day, Isaac servants came and told him about the well and they had, that they
29:57
had dug and said to them, we have found water.
29:59
He called it Shiba.
30:01
Therefore the name of the city is Beer Shiba to this day.
30:04
When Esau was 40 years old, he took Judith, the daughter of Barry, the Hittite to be his
30:10
wife and Basima, the daughter of Elon, the Hittite.
30:15
They had and they had and they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebecca.
30:20
All right.
30:21
Very good.
30:22
So again, I kind of talked about this a little bit earlier, but the parallels with Abraham
30:25
and Isaac famine lying about their marital status.
30:29
I'm like, when I first read this, I thought, Oh crap, I started reading the wrong chapter.
30:34
Like I've read this before.
30:35
Oh, it's a whole new era of stupidity in this exact same area, but prosperity covenant with
30:41
the Philstines, the whole nine yards.
30:42
I just, it just makes me laugh because like, if we go back to 26, just what we read before,
30:50
God basically tells him, I'm going to create a great nation for me.
30:54
So what makes you think that your wife's going to get killed, you know, like you, you lose
30:59
faith and you're, you're not obedient and then you sin.
31:03
And so the other thing I have to wonder about is like, how attractive are these women?
31:06
Dude, I'm saying the same thing.
31:08
I'm not going to be like, I've thought about how, how good looking was best.
31:13
She, but how good looking are these women that everybody else, he's just like, there's
31:17
no way the king's not going to notice.
31:19
Well, Sarai, Sarai was like, what, 60 something years old?
31:23
And it's just like, and then it's like, this dude goes and finds Rebecca and like, Rebecca's
31:27
is like super attractive.
31:28
And then the other thing that got me was like the ambemilex like, Hey, somebody could have
31:32
laid with her.
31:33
Yeah.
31:34
And it's just like, who's what?
31:35
What the heck goes down?
31:36
Yes.
31:37
And the people are like, okay, I'm going to go lay with that one.
31:39
And the people chosen by God, keep getting bailed out by pagan kings.
31:43
Yeah.
31:44
Well, that's what I put on here.
31:45
I'm like, do you think it's a sense of morality or like a fear of like, you know, superstition?
31:50
Yeah.
31:51
Okay.
31:52
Yeah.
31:53
That could be it as well to where it's like, look, dude, because we saw that in previous
31:55
parts of Genesis where it's like, Hey, like, you basically brought cursing into my household.
32:00
And so, you know, get out of here and take some, take some stuff with you, like, go on.
32:04
Yeah. Like they think that's going to bring upon a curse. And so like, don't they have
32:08
like their own marriage type vowels or something like that or how marriage or how courting
32:12
should happen so that there isn't something like that? So it's like, I don't know, I just
32:16
think it's crazy that, you know, it's like, whoa, like, why would they let, like, I'm
32:20
sure that Rebecca would have had to have courted somebody and then his family would have to
32:25
be like, yeah, we're going to give her over to you. But like, I don't know, it just, yeah,
32:31
I just find it really strange.
32:32
And it could be, uh, they're both men in power. And that's how wars start. Yeah, that's true.
32:38
Yeah. Hector and Achilles or whatever that guy's nephew. I should have read about this.
32:42
Yeah, you should have known. What is it? What is this nephew's name? It's a, but not
32:48
blackberries. Uh, you could have went with that. I would have been like, yeah. Yeah. I
32:53
just got, I just got to say what my test is. His name's Mike fecal. Hey, dude, is it
32:58
Fical fecal? Like I don't know. Is that what we're going to be focusing on? Let's just
33:03
I've read that part probably like 30 times, but you didn't read it out loud. And I didn't
33:09
read it out loud. So I didn't make it. I didn't even register. How did you say it? I said
33:14
Fical. I remember it's like here. I'm saying Fical. Well, I hear it. I hear it's a crappy
33:19
city. Correct. You know, it's a real crappy city. You know, dude, I was like, Oh my gosh.
33:25
But when I go to verse eight here, um, you know, I just what I wrote in my notes. And
33:30
so when he had been there a long time, I've been a light king of the Phil scenes looked
33:34
out the window and saw Isaac laughing with his with Rebecca, his wife. And so they weren't
33:38
just giggling like they were obviously laughing and embracing in a way that was, you know,
33:42
very flirtatious on you wouldn't do with your sister. And I mean, maybe if you're in Alabama
33:46
or something, but so shout out to all of our fans in Alabama shots, fired, fired, rolled
33:50
hat. But like, uh, you know, what's done in the dark will be brought to the light. You
33:54
think you're slick. You think you're slick? Like, Oh, yeah, it's my sister. No big deal.
33:57
But then it's just like, bro, you're, you're within, you know, sight, like potential. Well,
34:02
I kind of wondered about that because I looked at several different, um, you know, gosh,
34:06
what do you call it? Several different passengers, like just to see because I was like, well,
34:11
if they're just laughing, different translations, I was like, why would he care that they're
34:15
laughing together? But then you look at another one, they said caressing, so laughing caressing,
34:20
you know, so it was just like, you know, it's like date night. They're going to Michael
34:23
Buble after this, you know, like you're getting after spraying on that cool water. Oh my gosh.
34:27
I think I think one thing we look at, and I read this in a couple of commentaries is
34:32
that a bimolek could have been the same type of pharaoh as Abraham during Abraham's time.
34:39
So he could have got like shafted twice, I guess is what they talked about. Okay. So
34:45
they're because they say that even though a bimolek is a king of the Philistines, he
34:50
still headed, Abraham still headed south. And so they could have used pharaoh at that
34:54
time, just to mean king or something like that. And so a bimolek could have been the
34:59
same king at that time during Abraham. I think it's Patrick close. I think is that
35:03
Patrick Lee's Pat. Yeah. That's Achilles is like a movie that was like his cousin, but
35:08
then in in then Homer's, isn't that his lover? Maybe in Homer's surprise me. Yeah, or I mean,
35:16
we're talking about the Greeks. So well, in a lot of those old armies, they would, they
35:20
would put an older warrior with a younger warrior and they would become lovers. There
35:23
were certain groups of different armies where they were all like gay lovers. Hey, we can't
35:28
play that. It'll get pulled down off of YouTube. So just make sure we can't hear it. What are
35:32
we looking for? I'm looking for the name. Oh, the name of the guy. Yeah, I can find it
35:36
here. I know. There he is. Garrett Hedlen played him. Yeah, Patrick Lee's Patrick Lee's
35:42
Patrick Lewis. Anyway, no one actually cares about that. Okay, good, good, go, go us.
35:48
We did it. We figured it out. I thought some other things if we want to talk about that
35:51
chapter in this chapter is God said he would bless Isaac. And then we he reiterates that
36:00
even after even after what went on about him lying about his wife Rebecca, and then his
36:07
God's faithfulness is still there even through his deceit and the fact that he sowed in the
36:12
land and reap the same hundredfold that his father did.
36:16
And then you kind of goes and it shows the fear of God in the actual what do you want
36:21
to call them? Yeah. The Philistines. So like they're seeing what's going on with him. They're
36:28
seeing his blessings and they're like, then they have a fear of God. I don't know if it's
36:31
like a fear of God that we would have, but they have a fear of like, Hey, this guy's pretty
36:35
powerful. We need to get him out of here. Yeah. And I mean, verse 12, we talk about him reaping
36:39
one hundredfold. This is right after he lied about who his wife was. Yeah, he goes back
36:45
to dad because of dad. Right. Not because of son. He wasn't alive. He wasn't alive to
36:52
see his dad do that. Right. But still, it's just like, I mean, when we go through these
36:57
chapters and we go the last next couple of weeks, there's so much lying in the seat
37:00
that that just goes down where it's just like, you know, people are trying to make things
37:07
that God wants to do happen. And I kind of notice that in our lives is like, Hey, God's
37:12
got a plan, but like, I have my own plan sometimes that it might seem like it's on path with
37:17
his plan, but I'm trying to make things happen. And it's just like, sometimes it's just not
37:21
me. I shouldn't, I should let God actually do the work. If if he's opened the doors,
37:26
I need to walk through them. And I just need to do what I need to do in that time, rather
37:30
than try to make all these other things happen, because that's what he's going to do. And
37:35
that's what we see here is he's like, there's fear and he's like, well, I need to make
37:38
sure my wife is safe. And I have a long lineage of line like God said, so I'm going to do
37:44
this. And it wasn't the right path.
37:46
Well, do we, do we see that? Do you all think that's this is just like a like father, like
37:51
son thing to where he didn't see his dad do the exact same thing? We can't know whether
37:57
or not they talked about that like, Oh, that's one of the family stories when, you know,
38:00
when Paul did this or something like that. Or is this just like a like father like son
38:04
situation to where well, yeah, and you see some sin that carries on generationally,
38:10
which again, people get a little uncomfortable talking about generational sins and all that
38:13
because we all have individual autonomy and all that kind of stuff. But it's like there
38:17
are things passed down genetically that give you a predisposition for some sins over others.
38:22
I just think it's human nature. Yes. Well, and definitely part when you when you do see
38:26
your dad, I know it happens all the time. They watch their dad beat their mom. They hate
38:32
it and then they're beating their wife. It happens all the time. Yeah, abusers typically
38:36
were abused. And even when they hate it, I'll never become a drunk and they're drunk. Oh,
38:41
yeah, just makes you wonder, did Abraham continue to lie? You know what I'm saying? But I just
38:47
think like I think when we when we're in a sense of fear, the human thing for us to do
38:52
is to survive rather than trust. And I think that's what he's lacking here. It's just and
38:58
how how tenured is he yet? Right? Like how much turmoil and how many ups and downs has
39:03
he been through for that trust to be built? Yeah. You know, he just he just was given
39:07
this promise. Yeah. And has it been tested yet? Yes. Well, and he cheated to get the promise.
39:14
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, better keep cheating to get the promises. Well,
39:20
the promise was already going to be given. Yes. Yeah. And his eyes, like, I mean, yeah,
39:26
we're going to go over that in some chapters, but it's just like the promise was already
39:29
given. And we look at we look at we look at man or woman who try to make things happen
39:37
that God says is going to happen. It's like, well, I don't have enough trust to allow God
39:41
to do this. I'm going to make it happen on my own. And then we see them go down a path
39:45
that is not a good path. It's not it's not a it's not a holy path. I want to point out
39:51
it doesn't mean don't do anything either. Oh, no, no, I get that. No, like, that's the
39:56
point there's a fine line there. That's the point though is that the door is open. You
40:00
have to walk through it and you've got to do what you got to do within that door, but
40:02
you can't make things happen. Right. You know, like, you've got to just walk some at some
40:08
point, you have to walk in faith rather than just but you have to walk. That's the point
40:13
like you have to walk, but you have to keep walking and you don't know where the path's
40:17
going to end up, but you have to keep walking. So you are doing something. I keep going back
40:21
to this at times, you know, the more that I read in the Old Testament, it's like when
40:24
we talk about how much we're in the word, right? And how much we go back to the word
40:28
to his promises to the stories where God has been faithful and you take somebody like Jacob.
40:35
What did he go back to the word daily? Was he praying to the Lord? Like, what kind of
40:39
experiences do they have to strengthen their faith on a day in and day out basis? And so,
40:45
you know, like, we can go to the scripture dude around me, 31, be strong and courageous.
40:49
Do not fear being dread of them for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will
40:54
he will not leave you or forsake you. Right. Is he did he get that one promise or does
40:59
he keep going back to that one promise he heard from God or is he is he in the word?
41:03
Is he praying on a daily basis? You know, what's strengthening him and his walk? We don't we
41:08
don't we don't get to see that, but there's a scripture. Yeah. It's just like God's coming
41:13
and talking to them. I mean, that's what we saw with Abraham is, you know, he communed
41:17
with God. You know, it is why I think he knows what his dad did. Yeah. Everything in
41:23
here's was passed down verbally by storytelling. So, yes, of course. I think that's that thing
41:29
for us though. It's like we've got we're on the end of this, right? And we get to see
41:34
all of this and we like it's so easy to sit from here and judge Jacob and Isaac. Oh, gosh,
41:40
you guys are just no idiots, right? We can't judge them because like, that's why I say
41:44
it's more human nature than a father or son type thing. It's because we're no different.
41:48
Yeah. And the fact that we we don't have sometimes we lack faith and we lack we lack
41:53
obedience and what that falls through is deceit sometimes. So one thing that I'd like to do
41:59
is we wrap up our discussion of Genesis 26. And sorry, I keep clearing my throat into
42:04
the microphone guys having some vocal core troubles. That's why sweet baby James and
42:08
the first lady who went on to life brought me this lovely tea here. Shout out to field
42:11
craft survival for the awesome cup here. But verse 24. And the Lord appeared to him the
42:18
same night and said, I am the God of Abraham, your father. Fear not, for I am with you and
42:25
will bless you will multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham's sake. So I'm going
42:29
to bless you for your father's sake. Okay. But fear not, we get told several times in
42:35
scripture fear not. I, you know, I would, if I thought about this before and I would
42:39
have gone into a logos, which again, shout out to logos, they have the best Bible software
42:43
on the planet earth. Ryan horns actually got it up right here beside me. Guys, if you
42:47
want the best Bible software for your Bible study, go into the show notes for any forging
42:51
table episode over like the last year or so. And there's a link in there for you to get
42:55
that added discount. They've changed how they've done it. You see, they would sell the, the
42:59
software. Now they're doing kind of like as a monthly thing. It's absolutely fantastic.
43:04
But we see fear not fear not fear not fear not throughout scripture. The thing is, is
43:08
because God is terrifying. Angels are terrifying. Why could God not allow Moses to look at him
43:16
and all of his glory? Why? He basically said, all right, you can look at this, my stank
43:20
trail that comes off behind me, right? Between two rocks, because if I show you anything else,
43:25
you'll basically be obliterated, right? And we see an excess that he came down off the
43:28
mountain. He was like glowing didn't even know he was glowing just by looking at, you
43:31
know, the trail behind God, like the backside or whatever. But just this concept of fearing
43:37
God, I don't think we talk about it enough in church. I don't think men's groups or Bible
43:41
studies, we talk about that because you need to have a healthy fear of God. You need to
43:46
have a healthy reverence of God, not like scary, like scary movie or Halloween Friday
43:50
13 stuff like that. But like scary in terms of like, look, this is the creator God of
43:54
the universe that could stamp out my entire, you know, family tree in an instant. And I
43:59
need to put some respect on his name, right? And I just don't feel like we talk about
44:03
that very much. I think that's that's where we don't have that, that honor and respect
44:09
for him to go like, okay, if I don't obey, there's a consequence. We just think we don't
44:13
see the consequences of our sin. Right. Yeah, it's, it's all about the love. Yeah, exactly.
44:19
I don't know. When I was young, we were taught, like, that's the way the father's supposed
44:23
to be in the home to there's that, that healthy fear of dad. You know, he'll, he'll put the
44:30
smack down if he needs to actually want to talk about the missing very much nowadays.
44:33
I think that's a great point. I want to talk about this. This came up in some, some video
44:37
online or something like that. But they basically asked the person like, Hey, when you were
44:41
kid, why didn't you do drugs? Why didn't you drink? Why didn't you do all that? And the
44:46
answer would be because my dad would kill me because my mom would kill me. Now the odds
44:51
of them actually taking your life were not high, but it's, you know, a hyperbolic expression
44:55
to express an idea that I was terrified of my parents, which is my story. I didn't have
45:00
sex as a kid. I didn't get drunk. I didn't do drugs. I've never had weed. I never did
45:04
any of the things that some of my nukla and friends were doing because I was like, if
45:07
I get caught, like my family didn't mess around. It wasn't like, Oh, well, if you do that
45:11
again, we'll take away your car keys for a couple of days. It was like, Oh, your car
45:16
is going to be sold today. You will walk to school from here on out, even though it's
45:20
like 10 miles away, like it doesn't matter. Like it would have been like scorched to earth.
45:24
But if you don't have a healthy respect and fear for your parents, what kind of kid are
45:28
you? Like the worst kids that you know, and that you've seen is because their parents
45:31
are weak and they have spared the rod from their children and they have not given them
45:35
the proper discipline and direction that they need. And it makes sense. They don't have
45:39
a healthy respect or fear for their earthly father. Why in the world would they fear their
45:43
heavenly father? As they should, which as we, we fear them in a, in a reverent point,
45:49
like that God is scary and we should look at him as such, right? He is God is love in
45:54
those things, but he, he is also terrifying in a good way. And he's just, you know, he's
45:58
just because he has to be. Well, he gives grace where he needs. Yeah. Well, he's just
46:03
because he is God, you know, he knows better than we do. Um, I think, though, when I look
46:07
at this, I didn't really think about that fear, not for I am with you. I was, when I read
46:11
that part, I was thinking more of like, um, man, Isaac just got like kicked to the curb
46:16
by the Philistines. Um, you're talking about a good, a big nation with the Philistines
46:21
and I, you know, he's been told to leave. So I bet he's dealing with some sort of stress,
46:27
some sort of worry with what's going on. And like, this is where God comes again and says,
46:32
I am with you. Fear not. Here's my promises for you. And so I feel like he's like easing
46:37
the anxiety of, of Isaac. And like, I actually took this to heart. Um, I've been dealing
46:43
with a lot of anxiety, like the last couple of weeks and stuff. And so, um, and I let
46:48
my anxiety like take me to places I probably should never go and, and, and I feed it and
46:55
we feed our anxiety. And it's just like, when I read this part, it's just like fear, not
46:59
I am with you. Whatever happens, you know, here's my promise to you. And like that's
47:04
something we as Christians have to remember is that, you know, we are going to go through
47:08
trials and tribulations. We talked about that today, um, with what's going on in Christian,
47:13
with Christians overseas. And like you said today, Kyle, we're middle America, Edmond,
47:17
Oklahoma, which is like Camelot, you know, my worst thing is like, you know, someone's
47:22
going to make fun of me for putting a Bible verse on or, or something like that. And the,
47:26
you know, what kind of anxiety are these guys dealing with? They're a nation that's like
47:30
going to be under attack. And so, um, you know, I feel like God's giving him some ease here
47:35
and, and telling him, no, I have a future. I have a plan for you. Kind of like the, the
47:39
Jeremiah 29 11, when the Jews were going through, uh, um, what do you want to call it? The 70
47:46
years of, uh, one brain dead, 70 years, or time. Yeah. Um, when the, when the exile
47:56
exile, yeah. Oh, it was 70 years of exile. I was like the, the most obvious answer.
47:59
Yeah, I was like the answer. Yeah. Because I'm dumb and I can't think that word. I'll
48:03
get my happens. But they're going through exile in Jeremiah 29 11. How many, how many
48:08
times do we hear that verse all the time? You know, I know the plans I have for you says
48:11
the Lord, uh, plans for you to prosper and, and how we take that. And we're like, Oh man,
48:16
you know, we take, you know, I have kind of a charismatic bit of how I grew up. And it's
48:20
like, Oh man, I'm going to have money in the bank and blah, blah, blah, blah. You go and
48:23
look at the actual, uh, verse and what's actually going on at this time. The Jews are giving
48:27
up. The Israelites are giving up. They're like, Oh man, we're in exile. We're under attack.
48:33
Our whole, um, our whole being is now being, you know, ripped to shreds and God's saying,
48:40
and they're wanting to give up. They're like, they don't want to procreate anymore. They
48:43
don't want to work. They just want to sit there and not do anything. They don't want to walk
48:46
into faith that we talked about. And God says, no, get up and do it. I have a plan for you.
48:52
Yeah, this stinks right now because you brought this upon yourself, but you may be in exile,
48:57
but I have a purpose and a plan for you. And like, that's where I feel like Isaac is getting
49:02
the same thing from God right here. There's Psalm 23, the thing about the valley of the
49:05
shadow of death is that God's with you, right? That like, that's, that's kind of the point
49:11
of that Psalm is God is with you in the valley, right? Because we're either in the valley coming
49:16
out of the valley or about to go into the valley. Do you think we fear the things of this world
49:20
more or the fear of the Lord? I would say in general, the things of this world, because
49:25
we are fearful of what we don't have that someone else has envy. We're fearful of our
49:31
future, which is, you know, which is he's promised, which is promised for us. We're fearful of
49:37
struggle. I just got an email right before we started recording from a guy. Actually,
49:42
let me read it. Because I think this is poignant. So this guy, I won't say his name. This was
49:53
it. It's a kind of a scary message to get, but you know, these are just sometimes the
49:58
messages I get. Hey, Kyle, I just started watching your show after hitting a major low
50:02
point in my life. Look, man, I'll be honest. I just don't see a point in things anymore.
50:07
Every day seems like a struggle. Is there any advice you can give me? So inherent in that
50:12
this guy is really up against it. Okay. And we've had, you know, you know, there's been
50:18
some suicide in my foxhole and some different things that have happened. And so this is
50:22
a cry for help. And he's crying out to a podcaster that he just found, right? And basically what
50:28
I sent back to him was brother life is struggle. Like what, what do you expect? Like I'm trying
50:33
to kind of rejigger his brain to be like brother, read your Bible. Like some of the most important
50:38
people that God uses for his purposes had incredibly rough lives. I'm kind of summarizing
50:43
what I responded back to him. I was like, this modern day rainbows and unicorns Christianity,
50:47
like, it's like, bro, that's just not, it's not biblical Christianity. It's foolish to
50:51
believe that. It's like brother, we're called to struggle. And I told him read, you know,
50:57
I said we are called to serve God in our struggle. And guess what? You know, the valley of shadow
51:02
death, you're not alone. God's with you. And I told him read Psalm 23. And then when you're
51:05
done, read it again and then read it again, again, because that like, that's what's guaranteed
51:09
for us. We're guaranteed to have struggle and strife while we're here. But that's not
51:13
the end of the story. Right. And I just, so I feel like we don't, we don't look at it
51:17
that way. We don't have perspective because our circumstances are right in front of our
51:20
face seem dire. Well, guys, as we wrap up Genesis 26 there in the last verse, verses 34 and 35,
51:29
we have Esau, you know, this action here that we see at the end. Esau is, you know, basically
51:35
sealed off from the sacred inheritance. And so we'll get more into some of the things
51:39
going on there. But we're going to go ahead and leave our conversation there. But guys,
51:42
come back here next week where we are going to be digging into Genesis 27. So just Genesis
51:47
27, make sure that you're prepared for next week. And next week, we'll see if Sam can
51:51
do a better job with, with the timer. Okay, you're already ready to, we're not quite done
51:55
yet.
51:56
We got no, we just do, it's just like a one tap and then you like a hold it to reset.
52:00
And then after we're done, there's, there's another clap, right? And the clap has to come
52:03
from Howard and all those types of things. So there's, there's like, I did, I felt like
52:06
I needed to like after how we got started, but for that you go, we are going to do a quick
52:10
resilience boost added onto the life of our missions, equipping men to push back darkness
52:13
with content that for just spiritual mental and physical resilience. I've already mentioned
52:17
Logos. If you want to get the Logos Bible software at a discount, check it out on the

show notes. But also we have a great relationship with a great publisher and crossway. We have
52:24
a forging table starter set. There are five separate books that you can get at a 50% discount
52:29
for the entire set. For those of you wanting to do something similar with your buddies,
52:33
it can all be done there. And then also just want to remind you, we are donation based
52:36
ministry. If you're wondering how we can, you know, do things like the forging table
52:39
or get out the content that we do, it's because we have guys just like you that are helping
52:44
us equipment around the globe to push back darkness. And without further ado, Howard,
52:48
let's start closing clap. Just one clap, just one clap. Not clap, clap, just clap. It's
52:55
