1:18 This is Undaunted Life, a Man's Podcast.
1:21 I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
1:24 Let's get into it.
1:25 Welcome back to the forging table.
1:26 The mission of Undaunted Life is equipping them to push back darkness with content that
1:29 forges spiritual, mental, and physical resilience.
1:32 At the forging table, you will see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience
1:35 by digging into God's Word, and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with
1:38 us.
1:39 That's Winkler.
1:40 That's Dagan.
1:41 That's Ryan going out of order right now, guys.
1:42 We're digging into Acts 12.
1:43 But the first thing I need to know is Ryan, what were you looking at just a second ago?
1:45 I was doing my intro.
1:46 You got all distracted.
1:47 Looked over there.
1:48 Are you scared?
1:49 Is something over there?
1:50 Did you see a ghost?
1:51 I was seeing him.
1:52 It was dark outside yet.
1:53 Okay.
1:54 The reason why Winkler is dying laughing currently is because we are in a studio.
1:59 There is one window, and if it were open, we would know.
2:03 It's a blacked out studio, and yet you get so distracted in the middle of my intro that
2:08 you just right rubber neck over to see if it's still light outside.
2:12 Would you like to report to the listeners whether or not you can see light outside the
2:16 studio?
2:17 Get over here because I checked my mic volume.
2:18 Yeah.
2:19 So guys on YouTube on YouTube, we've got all of our levels and crap that I don't understand
2:24 shout out to land in our editor over there.
2:26 But on most of the screen is us.
2:29 And so Dagan and I can't see whether or not we look cool in the exact moment.
2:33 But these two Jack Black and Winkler and Horn constantly look over there.
2:37 But I will say this.
2:38 Winkler, I had to mention it one time.
2:40 He's like, all right.
2:41 I'm going to stop doing that.
2:42 You, however, you look at yourself.
2:45 I've got looking at myself, I'm looking at the mic levels in yourself.
2:48 Oh, no, I don't.
2:50 I find it ironic that probably the two people that shouldn't be looking at the screen more
2:55 than anybody else are probably looking at themselves.
2:57 You don't sell yourself short.
2:59 You give me, you give me so much crap about my voice.
3:02 No.
3:03 And everything.
3:04 So I checked my mic levels.
3:05 Like I'm in the yellows right now.
3:06 That's where I want to be.
3:07 All right.
3:08 I'm going to help you out here.
3:09 Even though I've explained this every week to you for like two years now.
3:11 That's why we wear headphones because you can hear yourself.
3:15 You don't need to see the levels.
3:16 Like remember how many times we did this without levels?
3:18 What did I tell you?
3:19 How you can tell?
3:20 Because you can hear whether or not the mic's picking you up, brother.
3:22 Last time when I was on like two weeks ago, three weeks ago, I looked over and I could
3:27 see the levels.
3:28 And so I was like, Oh, did it, did it help and while you were looking over your checking?
3:31 No, because then you went over and you were like, good, good checking yourself out.
3:34 I also saw you were licking your fingers and then, you know, your eyebrow.
3:39 Yeah.
3:40 That's how, that's the only way to fix my hair.
3:41 I mean, but it's got to be pretty easy in the mornings.
3:44 Like to, you just don't really have to do anything.
3:46 You just get a shower, you pick out of your 50 clones and then you go and then you kind
3:50 of pick what was the clone you went with today?
3:52 Just so the guys out there that are into it, the two or three that are into it.
3:55 Like, I don't know.
3:56 Joey's already mad at me because of my clones.
3:57 He is mad.
3:58 And the thing about it is you were playing with house money because he somehow for some reason
4:02 said that you were his favorite forging table, and then you blew it.
4:06 All you had to do was just ride that wave of momentum to wrap your buddy.
4:10 You asked me, but you brought up my clones.
4:12 You could have just like easily dodged it.
4:16 It was the perfect storm.
4:18 Yeah.
4:19 I got that exact.
4:20 Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney at one.
4:22 Hey, I will just say, but I mean, you still haven't admitted which, which one are you wearing
4:26 right now?
4:27 Where are you?
4:28 I was tweed by Creed.
4:29 Green Irish tweed.
4:30 And that is not creed the band.
4:31 Okay.
4:32 So they can just to bring you out to speed just because you, I don't think you've, you've
4:35 listened to that episode quite yet, but yeah, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it was.
4:40 So I was taking a shower over Ryan's house.
4:42 That's a long story, but you know, I'm coming out of the shower and like a normal man.
4:46 You know what I'm looking for?
4:47 I'm looking for cute tips.
4:48 Right?
4:49 I got to get the gunk out of the house.
4:50 Yeah.
4:51 My cute tips are like right out there on the counter.
4:52 Yeah.
4:53 I did see that.
4:54 I had to count.
4:55 They do just wanted to reason snoop, you know, like freaking Snoop Dogg over here.
4:59 I was like, no, no, no, let's see what kind of smells he's got.
5:00 I was not snooping because you never know what you're going to find.
5:03 I don't need to find.
5:04 Anyway, we'll leave that.
5:05 You never know what you're going to find in someone's bathroom, but I opened up one cabinet
5:08 door.
5:09 And there's like three dozen bottles of cologne, no, no hyperbole.
5:14 They're like, no, no, no, no, there was somewhere between two and three dozen bottles of cologne.
5:22 There's not 30, like 24 bottles of cologne in there.
5:25 All right.
5:26 Let, let, let's just go with the 12.
5:27 Yeah.
5:28 No, no, I'll go.
5:29 15.
5:30 No, no, no, no.
5:31 Hold on.
5:32 I'll take 20.
5:33 I'll take 20.
5:34 I'll take 20.
5:35 I'm going to different route here.
5:36 So, okay.
5:37 You can judge me, whatever, but the 12, I'm just curious why you would need 12.
5:43 Well, like, even 12, and it's way worse than that, but I have, I have like a, I have one
5:49 that I would wear when it's hot and then one that I would wear when it's colder.
5:52 See, I think that's too many.
5:54 Right.
5:55 That's too, too many.
5:56 Right.
5:57 I have, I have one bottle of cologne that was a gift from my wife.
6:00 I don't think I've ever purchased cologne for myself.
6:04 Well, I, so you.
6:05 So my question.
6:06 I'm not answering anymore questions.
6:08 Did you, did you purchase all of these?
6:11 No, some of them are, like, some of them were purchased for me, like 25 years ago, and
6:16 you still have it.
6:17 Well, like, my first bottle of creed I got in 2017, so still have it.
6:23 So is this like, is this like a, so some people are into bourbon, right?
6:27 Some, some people are into guitars.
6:29 Let me give you the story.
6:30 Let me give you the story.
6:31 So I just love that Dagen isn't aware, so we get to do this again.
6:36 Yeah, I love it.
6:37 I freaking hate this.
6:38 You're welcome.
6:39 Let's go.
6:40 We have the same reaction.
6:41 If I walked into a dude's bathroom and opened up the cabinet and saw like this menagerie
6:45 of.
6:46 Yeah.
6:47 Way more than 12.
6:48 Yeah.
6:49 Way more than 12.
6:50 But go ahead.
6:51 Explain.
6:52 Ryan was basically, he was basically going, he was like, I think horns got a brush I can
6:55 use.
6:56 I'm like, yeah, no, you're just looking through my stuff.
6:57 No.
6:58 So I was, uh, seventh grade, I was in home act.
7:01 There was this girl I really liked.
7:03 So I went up to talk to her and she's like, what's your name?
7:05 And I was like, Ryan Horn.
7:07 And she's like, Oh, when she got that crapped his pants last year in class.
7:11 And I'm like, no.
7:15 This is the foundation.
7:16 Yes.
7:17 And so like already had kind of like my dad wore cologne and he got me like two clones.
7:21 You know, like back when I was like six, I still had him.
7:24 No, no, no, no, no.
7:25 Was the story true?
7:26 What story?
7:27 Did you craft your pants?
7:28 No, I didn't.
7:29 No, no, no, no, I was like, no, I did not crap my pants, you know, but it got around
7:35 that supposedly I crapped my pants.
7:37 And so I remember like people would sit next to me because they thought I smelled bad.
7:41 And like it just kind of sat with me.
7:43 And so I remember going home and I said, Oh, for my birthday and Christmas is cloned.
7:47 So like since like every year, so like people would just buy me cologne and then I started
7:53 smelling other clones and I went to pick up some cologne for my dad one time.
7:59 And like the stuff smelled really good.
8:00 So I bought some of that and then it just kind of just snowballed from there.
8:03 And so I buy it.
8:04 I would buy clones like if I run out of like a creed now that I'll go and buy another
8:09 creed, I try to find which smell I like the most and kind of roll with that smell.
8:13 But like, yeah, I have one, I actually don't have one I have, I have two for spring, two
8:16 for fall, two for winter, so two for flag day, two for Easter.
8:22 Yeah.
8:23 Well, I also have like very elegant affair cologne and then I have like just my regular
8:27 go around town cologne, stuff like that.
8:29 Dang it.
8:30 I'm so happy.
8:31 Go around town cologne.
8:32 Yeah.
8:33 Yeah.
8:34 That's where I wear the Versace.
8:35 Okay.
8:36 Here's it.
8:37 Wait, wait, wait, wait, here's the last time.
8:43 So like I think I wore like a curve or cool water, one of those two, I literally moved
8:49 into this house eight years ago with a bottle of cologne and never touched it.
8:53 And I literally threw it away a month or two ago because you know why?
8:56 Because they used soap and I bathe like, so I don't feel the need for extra.
8:59 I don't feel the need for extra since.
9:01 But one thing that you haven't gotten to yet is, why don't you have them?
9:04 Why don't you ask them how much the bottles cost?
9:06 So go back and watch.
9:07 Go back and watch.
9:08 I can work here now.
9:09 Let's do a live.
9:10 I'm going to watch it.
9:12 I will watch it.
9:13 But you can do this.
9:14 I mean, things.
9:15 Just go.
9:16 Hold on.
9:17 Can I guess?
9:18 Can I guess?
9:19 You are you own creed.
9:20 You know how much it costs.
9:21 I do know how much crease costs.
9:22 It's expensive.
9:23 Let.
9:24 Let me ask you this.
9:25 Is it is a bottle of it?
9:26 Wait more.
9:27 Wait more.
9:28 Wow.
9:29 I told Kyle I'll donate all my clone when he donates all his guns to Shane Claymore.
9:36 No.
9:37 That was the thing that got me because I was like, okay, so you got a clone thing.
9:41 But I had no idea about the world of Cologne because I had had pimp when I was a kid.
9:45 I had a cool otter.
9:46 Good work.
9:47 You probably like were acts.
9:48 No, didn't wear acts because I'm not a redneck.
9:50 Okay.
9:51 So I was just redheaded.
9:52 I'm older than you guys.
9:53 I was green polo and Dracar Noir.
9:56 Oh, man.
9:57 That's my emo name.
9:58 Dracar Noir.
9:59 There's a show on Fox called Raising Hope and this like really goofy kid has like guy,
10:08 has like a kid that he's raising with his parents.
10:11 And like all of a sudden he goes back to his emo days and his name is Dracar Noir.
10:15 It's money.
10:16 Raising hope.
10:17 Dude.
10:18 You got to watch it.
10:19 It's hilarious.
10:20 Well, we got off subject there for a little bit.
10:21 So why don't you tell Deagan what, you know, some of these bottles cost like, you know,
10:26 what's kind of like your, your Mount Rushmore of expensive bottles.
10:28 What are they?
10:29 Yeah.
10:30 What are they?
10:31 Tell me what the most expensive.
10:32 Yeah, let's, let's go.
10:33 The elegant.
10:34 You're wearing a tuxedo.
10:35 If I'm wearing a tuxedo, I wear a creed oud or I wear a pen halogen, but should do about
10:40 the Duke.
10:41 That's one.
10:42 That's the one with the dog head.
10:43 Okay.
10:44 That was the one I remembered and those costs approximately the much to do about the Duke
10:49 was like a little over probably over $300, but it's like only like 2.5 fluid ounces when
10:57 you can get creed at like 3.3.
10:59 So you have to like what a bargain.
11:02 Well, creeds.
11:03 Yeah.
11:04 I mean 1.3.
11:05 Yeah.
11:06 More ounces.
11:07 Right.
11:08 More sprays, bro.
11:09 I mean, but let's get, let's get to the top ones.
11:10 What are, what are your top, most expensive bottles?
11:12 Let's go.
11:13 The creed ones like the creed, right?
11:15 But how much are they?
11:16 I'm not dude.
11:17 I'm not.
11:18 You're doing it.
11:19 Stagan's leaning forward.
11:20 He's interested.
11:21 Will you do it for me?
11:22 No, no, no, don't save him.
11:24 Don't save him.
11:27 So I swear if I do my two winners since one is creed Viking, that's about $450.
11:33 And if you rare get creed oud, it's about $550.
11:38 And those are probably the two most expensive one.
11:40 All the other creeds are like 450, which is really expensive to back up Ryan a little
11:44 bit here. I bet you everybody at this table can probably point to one thing that they
11:49 spend entirely too much money on.
11:51 And we have zero reason to have that much of it.
11:54 Yeah.
11:55 It's really bad.
11:56 Yeah.
11:57 I was just shocked.
11:58 Okay.
11:59 I get, I get, I'm on a trying to find Q tips and I just found out something I wish I
12:05 didn't know.
12:06 Like, well, cause that's the other thing is like I never have like, you know, been around
12:10 you, put my arm around you, something like that and been like, Oh, cause you can usually
12:13 tell when people are wearing cologne, so it's typically pretty subtle.
12:16 So when that episode dropped, I had like three people trust me at church.
12:19 Hold on.
12:20 I just lean in and I got the biggest heartburn on how you put it on.
12:25 Oh, yeah.
12:26 Let's do that.
12:27 This is completely wrong.
12:28 Take us through the process.
12:29 It's completely wrong.
12:30 Okay.
12:31 How do you put on?
12:32 Cologne at pulse points, man.
12:33 I hear pulse points.
12:34 Here.
12:35 Let me tell you how I do it here.
12:36 Okay.
12:37 So let me tell you how I do it.
12:38 You can tell me.
12:39 We got the master.
12:40 I am like, I got one bottle.
12:41 It's John.
12:42 Is it varvedos?
12:43 Yeah.
12:44 John varvedos.
12:45 John varvedos.
12:46 With like leather.
12:47 Leather.
12:48 He just leather.
12:49 It smells good.
12:50 It's good stuff.
12:51 But I wear it because my wife bought it because she thinks it smells good.
12:54 And that's the only reason I wear it.
12:56 Like I will, if she thinks I smell good, I'll wear it.
12:58 But I, it's spritzes on both sides of the neck and then I was, I was taught to put it
13:03 on your wrist and then you rub your wrist.
13:06 You don't rub it.
13:07 Just.
13:08 Oh, done.
13:09 Well, I'm doing it wrong.
13:10 I'm right.
13:11 For their people just listening at home, Winkler was just, oh, I'm stopping his wrist.
13:16 Yeah.
13:17 Yeah.
13:18 Just double tap.
13:19 Okay.
13:20 That's all you need to do.
13:21 Double tap.
13:22 If you start rubbing it together, you're going to actually rub it into your pores and then
13:23 it actually won't come out.
13:24 So you won't come out.
13:25 What do you mean?
13:26 Won't get the scent.
13:27 Well, the scent will go away.
13:28 You should.
13:29 You should also moisturize too.
13:30 All right.
13:31 I don't get that.
13:32 Cause if you have dry skin, it won't catch the oils.
13:36 I love how he points to Winkler when he says you have to moisturize.
13:40 You freakin ashy.
13:42 You also.
13:43 We want to go in a face care routines now.
13:44 Maybe.
13:45 Hey man.
13:46 Every nail ball.
13:47 I have to.
13:48 This is the most mainly version of the forging table I've ever sat through.
13:52 I do the same thing you do.
13:54 But I sprayed this.
13:55 Let's share recipes next.
13:56 I'm not sure.
13:57 I don't know that barbecue recipe.
13:58 Let's go.
13:59 All right.
14:00 One spray, two spray, spray in the back.
14:04 And then I spray the pressure points, but then I do that and then I do this and I do that
14:09 too.
14:10 So you have to describe it in detail for the people at home that are watching it because
14:14 you said that, that, that they don't know what that means.
14:15 So we need to get real detailed here.
14:17 Come on.
14:18 Come on, Ryan.
14:19 Glad I'm like, we're dragging this out.
14:20 We're dragging this.
14:21 We're dragging this one out.
14:22 Let's go.
14:23 This is my last one for a while.
14:24 So chest spray, chest twice.
14:26 It's like the mock.
14:27 Kind of right.
14:28 Right.
14:29 Right back at the end of the day.
14:30 Spray a pressure point on your wrist twice, then dab, dab and then dab on the sides.
14:37 And then I'll rub the rest on my head.
14:40 Now let's go back to this moisturizer thing.
14:43 Now I only opened up one cabinet door and was so shocked by what I saw.
14:48 I just like, I snuck out of the house.
14:50 If I had opened up the cabinet drawer next to it, what I've seen like 17 different moisturizers
14:57 or I just use bloody knuckles is like this stuff that helps with dry skin.
15:01 If your skin's dry, it's not going to the cologne's not going to catch.
15:05 Let me ask you this.
15:06 Are you a member of any forums specifically about?
15:10 No.
15:11 I only do barbecue and whiskey forums.
15:14 Okay.
15:15 Cologne's like I like cologne and I spend money on cologne because I like good smelling cologne.
15:20 But like if I really had a passion, it's smoking meat and drinking bourbon.
15:24 I mean, my bourbon collection.
15:25 Amen.
15:26 My cologne collection.
15:27 But no, I get it.
15:28 It's a lot of money on cologne.
15:29 I get it.
15:30 It's ridiculous.
15:31 And what's going on?
15:32 And I apologize to all you listeners out there for my ridiculous.
15:35 No.
15:36 You buy a lot.
15:37 You buy a lot of it, but it's going to last a long time.
15:38 It's not like it.
15:39 Does it go bad?
15:40 No.
15:41 I still have one from like 2016.
15:42 Yeah.
15:43 Okay.
15:44 Yeah.
15:45 So it's not like an expiration date.
15:46 Yeah.
15:47 Like it's not like I buy these every year.
15:48 I like buy one.
15:49 Like sometimes if I see a sale or a deal, I'll go and buy one or you know, when I work
15:53 sales, I get a commission check and if I want to go give myself something and I already
15:56 have plenty of bourbon, maybe I'll save up and go get a cologne for that year.
16:00 Okay.
16:01 Or I get it for Christmas and Father's Day or something like that.
16:03 Okay, legitimate question because every time I feel like every year I find like a collectibles
16:08 world that I knew nothing about that people are like bajillionaires because they collect
16:13 like ancient toothpicks or something.
16:15 So like are there like clones that kind of like a bourbon to where it's like, well, we'll
16:20 say it like a single malt scotch.
16:21 So you have like logable and 25 only 8,000 bottles were made.
16:24 I have bottle 253 like in then every year a bottle gets opened or lost or broken.
16:31 And so it becomes more more valuable is that the same like we just discovered a 1957 bottle
16:36 of old spice.
16:37 Right.
16:38 Like legit.
16:39 Like would that be?
16:40 Is that a thing?
16:41 I mean, I don't know.
16:42 I wear it, but I'm pretty sure if like I like put one away and then my kid or grand kid
16:46 picked it up.
16:47 They probably don't make it anymore.
16:49 But Creed's been around since like a long time, like that's what like shoot like Kings
16:55 were wearing it back in like the 17, 1800s and something.
16:58 Louis the 16th.
16:59 Yeah.
17:00 What are you looking at?
17:01 I'm just ordering a bottle day in.
17:02 Are you doing it live here on the show?
17:03 No.
17:04 Are you sure?
17:05 Yeah.
17:06 One, one quick Google a little and the pricing will talk you out of buying something real
17:07 fast.
17:08 You can't.
17:09 $495 for Creed.
17:10 A Ventus.
17:11 Yeah.
17:12 That's what I wear.
17:13 So what, what season is that for?
17:14 I would wear a Ventus in the winter or I would wear eight.
17:19 I would wear a Ventus in the winter or I would wear eight.
17:27 I didn't see I wear it in the summer.
17:33 So so I wear green.
17:35 I wish we were so we've lost the entire audience at this point, but I don't even care because
17:38 I got more questions.
17:39 So what, what makes a scent a summer scent versus a winter scent?
17:44 I mean, I'd say like what are the main layers like Bergamont, oud.
17:49 I wear a lot of oods in the winter because it's going to pick up.
17:52 It's going to carry them a little bit more.
17:54 Okay.
17:55 I don't know.
17:56 I don't know that I just, I think it smells good.
17:58 Okay.
17:59 I know when it's cold and I, and in the fall I wear Tom Ford, bourbon vanilla.
18:04 Hey, listen, every once in a while when I get dressed up, I wear John Varvino's cologne
18:09 because I like sex.
18:14 And on that note guys, let's go and talk about acts 12 transition.
18:18 You have all transitions.
18:20 I hope your wife is not listening to this episode.
18:25 Does it have actual bits of panther in it guys?
18:28 Let's dig in to acts 12, acts 12, Ryan, you've done a lot talking and you're going to do
18:33 a lot more.
18:34 So here let's do a lot more.
18:35 Let's just read the first five verses of acts 12.
18:38 All right.
18:39 About the time Harry, the king laid violent hands on some of some who belong to the church.
18:45 He killed James, the brother of John with a sword.
18:47 And when he saw that it was that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also.
18:52 This was during the days of unleavened bread.
18:55 And when they had seized him, he put him in prison delivering him over to four squads
18:59 of soldiers to guard him intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people.
19:08 So Peter kept what he left.
19:09 He's just talking, man.
19:11 I can't read good.
19:12 No, you're reading just fine.
19:14 We were all turning the page at the same time.
19:17 So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayers for him was made to God by the church.
19:22 Yeah.
19:23 So James, brother of John, not the half brother of Jesus or brother of Jesus, first apostle
19:28 killed.
19:29 So this is, this is kind of a big deal here and just for a little note here, Herod, this
19:35 is not here at the great.
19:36 This is Herod, a grip of the first.
19:37 This is a grandson of Herod, the great.
19:39 So there's a few things that we can talk about here in this first section, but something
19:42 that I found to be pretty interesting in verse five.
19:45 So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.
19:49 So if you keep, you know, if you keep reading along, you, you know, that spoiler alert,
19:54 Peter gets saved, but the praying that they were doing for him at this time, they didn't
19:59 know that was going to happen.
20:01 So they're praying in such a fervent way, again, it's saying, but earnest prayer for
20:05 him was made to God by the church.
20:09 That's, that's something that's interesting to me.
20:10 I feel like in a modern context, the only time I've ever seen something like that is
20:14 if you've got, I don't know, maybe someone gets a bad cancer diagnosis or one of their
20:19 children gets sick or injured, or like maybe there's like an affair or like a tragic death
20:25 or something like those are maybe the only times where I feel like you could categorize,
20:29 Hey, this group of believers is doing earnest prayer on behalf of somebody else.
20:34 But I feel like we don't really see that too terribly often.
20:36 No, I mean, I think we all pray, pray to find solace.
20:41 We pray to find the comforting in God.
20:43 And I think R.C. Sproul brought it up in this about just prayer in general that people
20:50 think that, you know, God, God has unanswered prayers and it's God never unanswered prayers.
20:54 He's either tells you, yes, no, we're wait.
20:57 And so that's one thing that we have to look at when we are praying, like people are praying
21:01 for, for Peter to be released, you know, people were praying for James to be released and,
21:08 you know, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, you know, and so we just have to
21:12 put our, you know, our faith in God's sovereignty and just kind of kind of roll with it.
21:15 But always, always talk to him.
21:17 I mean, I don't know, I'm not the best at prayer life.
21:20 I wish I was.
21:21 It's something I could definitely work on.
21:23 But most of the time when I'm praying, I'm praying, you know, just to God about, you
21:29 know, certain things like just praising him and everything like that.
21:32 But very rarely do I come and say, Hey, Lord, I need this.
21:35 And I think there's times when that needs to be done.
21:37 And I think doing that as a church body is a good, fruitful thing.
21:40 Have you guys been a part of like a body of believers that are praying?
21:45 I mean, some people who just have the gift of it, right?
21:47 It's, it's, it's like, it's like a sermonette as they're praying.
21:51 And it is, it is sincere and it, it almost like it's just flowing off their tongue.
21:57 But it sounds, it's flowing off their tongue so easily.
22:00 It's like they wrote it before they got up.
22:01 Yeah.
22:02 Yeah.
22:03 And then just, but, but being in those groups, the encouragement that I've always been that
22:09 received, right, cause I'm, I don't feel I'm like that.
22:12 I feel like I'm like, I like praying, but I don't feel like I'm like, that pray, like
22:17 some of those people do, but man, what a, it's like an electric, like, you know, it's like
22:23 the spirit is moving and you can feel it in the body of believers and, and you really
22:28 can feel the power of communal prayer like that.
22:32 Like do you, have you guys experienced saying this?
22:34 Yes.
22:35 Yeah.
22:36 So you say the, the scariest sentence for me to hear when I'm among a body believers is
22:41 Jake.
22:42 Will you pray for us?
22:43 It's the scariest sentence because I'm like, I, I don't do this very well.
22:48 Like you can put me, I, I teach classes and, and, and we'll do some public speaking and
22:53 everything.
22:54 And I can speak extemporaneously, no problem, but for some reason, whenever it's like, okay,
22:58 we're praying now.
23:00 I am way more comfortable praying like Nehemiah did, like in, in 150 words or less.
23:06 I mean, 150 characters or less.
23:08 That's, that's my type of prayer.
23:10 I'm way more quick and, and so whenever I do get asked to pray for a large group, I'm,
23:16 I'm never that comfortable in, in maybe that's the, maybe I shouldn't be, but I don't really
23:23 know any other way to do it.
23:25 I remember at the 4th of July gathering last year, Kyle was there.
23:29 We go to a 4th of July gathering at Russell's house, who was on the forging table previously.
23:34 And Russell was just like, Hey, Jake, will you pray for us?
23:36 And I'm like there.
23:37 And I'm like, yeah.
23:38 Catholic prayer.
23:39 That would be super sweet.
23:41 Hail Mary.
23:42 You guys ever like, you ever get a part of those groups where y'all have to go lay hands
23:50 on somebody, you know, like, everybody's like laying hands on like one person and praying
23:54 for them, but your hands like on the guy in front of you and you're like, you're hoping
23:57 a passage through your trade, but then it's like one guy starts and then like, it just
24:03 like kind of goes.
24:04 And you're like, you know who the last guy is, but then you're like, well, only one person
24:07 prayed.
24:08 So I better say something or I better pray something because if it gets to this other
24:12 guy, it's like two people break.
24:14 Yeah.
24:15 I ran into those.
24:16 Those kind of freaked me out.
24:17 I think, I think I've, I've struggled.
24:18 And I think we've, we've talked a few times about struggles with personal prayer, life
24:22 and stuff on this show.
24:23 And, but again, every week we get new listeners.
24:25 And so every now and then it's, it's worth it to bring it back up again.
24:27 And I've been very honest about me personally struggling with prayer because I'm like, okay,
24:31 God is sovereign.
24:33 So this seven year old girl that I found out that has cancer, I can pray for it, but he's
24:38 either going to say for her or he's not and he's not going to determine whether or not
24:40 to do so, whether he's depending upon if I pray about it or not, or how often I pray
24:45 about it or how long I do it or how poetic it is or if I'm laying hands or something
24:49 like that.
24:50 And so I know the, the Bible church and Sunday school answers to, to that.
24:56 And you know, we're called to pray and, you know, take our, take our issues to the Lord
25:00 and, you know, to, to ask for things and all that type of stuff.
25:03 But that's the thing for me where, where I struggle to where it's like, okay, I don't
25:07 want to just pray for stuff that I want because it feels selfish, even, but at the same time,
25:12 it's like, okay, when I'm specifically praying for something to go better for someone else
25:16 or someone to get good news from the doctor, not bad news or for someone's marriage to
25:19 work out that, you know, when it's on the rocks, like when I'm praying for that, at the whole
25:23 time, I'm like, yeah, but he's going to do whatever he wants.
25:26 Go ahead.
25:27 But like, when I pray for that person who's like the seven year old who could be dying,
25:31 I'm not only praying for healing, you know, and hoping for that, I'm praying for comfort.
25:36 I'm praying for other things.
25:37 I'm praying for her family.
25:38 I'm praying for her.
25:39 Well, that's, that's actually to the point that I was to it, what I was making to where
25:43 it's like, um, people will say, okay, so let's just take the seven year old girl scenario
25:48 because we're not actually talking about a real seven year old girl.
25:50 I just made it up.
25:51 So seven year old girl has cancer, doesn't look good.
25:53 My kid's dying, um, and you get people together and you do those types of prayers.
25:58 You do the hand laying on prayer.
25:59 You have prayer meetings, you know, I have prayer vigils.
26:01 You do all those different things.
26:03 Praying for salvation.
26:04 Yeah.
26:05 All that.
26:06 All that, right.
26:07 Kid gets saved.
26:08 Oh my gosh.
26:09 Praise God.
26:10 This is amazing.
26:11 They'll be like, this is great.
26:12 Like, Oh, you know, prayer works.
26:13 All that.
26:14 Okay.
26:15 Next scenario.
26:16 Kid actually dies.
26:17 Hey, you know what?
26:18 God sovereign.
26:19 You know, God needed his, God needed his angel back in heaven or God's got a plan and
26:22 God's whatever.
26:23 And so that was always my struggle.
26:24 Just as like a justice fairness minded person, it was kind of a mental handicap for me because
26:30 I'm like, wait, God, which I get it.
26:32 I agree.
26:33 God is sovereign and gets the praise no matter what because he's going to try to use everything
26:37 for his purposes.
26:38 But I was like, okay.
26:39 So you're like, we really need to pray about this.
26:41 But even if it doesn't go the way that we prayed for, we're like, Oh, it's all good though.
26:45 You know, that that was always like my struggle where I like, I didn't have anybody kind of
26:48 like we were talking about last week.
26:49 I didn't have anyone discipling me like answering some of these questions.
26:52 That might be old hat for people.
26:53 They're like, yeah, this shouldn't be a hang up, but it was just always a hang out for me
26:56 because it's like, it's like you're playing both sides of the fence and you're celebrating
26:59 regardless of the results.
27:00 Yeah.
27:01 And I think it would came down for me is when I had those questions is it came down to the
27:05 word obedience.
27:06 It's like I just have to be obedient.
27:08 I may not like the outcome.
27:09 I may be praying for a different outcome, but I need to be obedient to what God calls me
27:13 to do.
27:14 And then through that obedience, I'm going to find comfort that we're going to find comfort.
27:18 God's going to work something out.
27:19 But we also, the thing that we look at too is we live in a sinful world, you know, like
27:23 Christ came to this earth, but he didn't heal everybody who was sick, you know?
27:27 And so the thing is that we still live in a sinful world.
27:30 People are going to die at young ages and it's horrible and it's sad, but it's just the world
27:34 that we live in and God's going to work stuff out to His good, you know, it may not look
27:39 good for us, but it could be good for something else.
27:42 And so that's why we just have to have faith in the sovereignty.
27:44 Well, and you praying for a little girl or a, you know, a neighbor or whatever the scenario
27:49 is, it's, it's, it's God can create a unique character in you through that experience,
27:55 right?
27:56 Like you're, you're, you're consecrating your faith in Him on the situation by going to
28:02 prayer, by reading, reading, you know, scripture about it, committing it to prayer.
28:07 It's like, Hey God, this is, you're, you're basically establishing like this is your situation.
28:11 You are sovereign over this situation.
28:14 So it's, it, and just because I ask you out of my own selfishness, right?
28:19 Like every day I'm proof that we need a savior.
28:21 And part of that is selfishness.
28:23 My, my, my, my really narrow mindset and my narrow vision of what is good in this situation
28:31 tells me that the only thing good in this situation is, is if she gets better, that's
28:35 the only good, but unlimited.
28:37 I've got a limited perspective on eternity.
28:39 I've got a limited perspective on God's plan.
28:42 So God's goodness is what is what I just, I just need to pray God, I, I know that you
28:51 love her and I know that you want that, that you have a plan for her and it's to prosper
28:56 and not to harm and, and just sit and soak in God's goodness and just show that you are
29:04 faithful to his plan, rather than like, Hey, I'm, I'm going to ask and if it doesn't happen,
29:11 I'm going to be ready because he gives any takes.
29:14 So if he, if he gives, I'm going to say, well, yeah, he's a good giver and he's a good father
29:17 and he's a provider.
29:18 And if he takes, I'm going to be like, Oh, well, you know, I mean, he takes, you know,
29:23 so, and you, you bring up that narrow mindedness and I think back to Dorcas.
29:26 Dorsos.
29:27 Dorsos.
29:28 Dorsos.
29:29 Dorsos.
29:30 I'm going to do that to her when church it up, gotta church it up.
29:34 Dorsos.
29:35 By creed.
29:36 Hey, hey, are you able to submit like name suggestions?
29:42 That's fantastic.
29:43 Let's go.
29:44 The official scent of the forging table.
29:49 I love it.
29:50 Oh, man.
29:51 Come on.
29:52 I just heard the news today.
29:53 Yeah.
29:54 Let's go.
29:55 A narrow minded, narrow mindedness is how we don't know what God's going to do.
30:07 Like we have to trust in this sovereignty.
30:09 So when Peter went in there to Dorcas, why she was dead, he had everybody leave notice
30:13 that nobody was in there to watch him because he didn't know what was going to happen.
30:16 He's like, I'm going to pray for her.
30:17 I'm going to believe for this.
30:18 But if it doesn't happen, I don't want, you know, everybody thinks like, Oh, he doesn't
30:22 have the power or, you know, God's not with him or anything like that.
30:24 No, he goes and does it in private.
30:26 You know, and then through that privacy, you know, God, God fulfilled what what he needed
30:31 to fulfill in that moment.
30:33 And that was to bring people to Christianity.
30:36 But that's the thing is like we don't have, we have a narrow minded view.
30:39 He's like, either I mean, she's going to live or she's going to die.
30:41 I don't know what's going to happen after this.
30:43 Yeah.
30:44 I think there's something else to add here.
30:45 I mean, we talk about the narrow minded view.
30:48 I would also just as a Christian nation now, when we say we're praying earnestly, what
30:57 I, you know, I honestly think that looked a lot different back then.
31:02 We're very comfortable, you know, we don't need a whole lot.
31:06 And honestly, when you go back and you look at church history, you know, within a few
31:10 centuries of Christ, you know, dying and suffering, you, you suddenly see the Roman Catholic
31:15 church rising up out of power and what are they doing?
31:19 They're gaining great wealth.
31:20 They're gaining great prestige.
31:21 It becomes a political appointment once the remote once the Romans take over.
31:26 And they once the Romans make it an official religion.
31:30 And I look at it and I go, well, Peter's like when you go back to the beautiful gate and
31:35 him healing the laymen at the beautiful gate and just literally just walks by and just stand
31:41 up and walk and it's told the story to you and Terry and Matt, but Thomas Aquinas went
31:50 and visited Rome and Pope Innocence, touring him around the Vatican and just basically
31:58 showing him all these great riches and gold and silver.
32:02 And he looks over at Aquinas at Aquinas and he says, no longer can they say gold and silver,
32:10 we have none.
32:11 And Aquinas responds, maybe that's why we can no longer say stand up and walk.
32:17 I just don't think that we're, we don't have the desperation that they did back then because
32:23 we're just so comfortable.
32:25 We are so, so comfortable.
32:26 And I think, yes, there's these horrible diagnoses and everything, but we've become so confident
32:32 in what man can do.
32:35 They had so much faith in the supernatural and we put so much faith in the natural one.
32:42 When's the last time any one of this table had to pray the prayer, give us a stay our
32:45 daily bread?
32:46 Yeah.
32:47 That's never.
32:48 Yeah.
32:49 I mean, for a lot of us, I mean, like we didn't grow up with a lot of money, but I was never
32:52 cold, you know, indoors.
32:55 I was never hot indoors and I was always, I always went to bed with a full belly.
32:59 You know what I mean?
33:00 And so you're right, like we have a different level here and that's again, we have such
33:05 a, you know, such a US centric idea of Christianity as well, such a Western centric idea of Christianity,
33:11 but it's like, Hey man, Christianity is exploding in places in the Middle East.
33:15 It's exploding in Sub-Saharan Africa.
33:18 It's exploding in Southeast Asia and all these places because it's like, you know, Christianity
33:23 doesn't need the Oklahoma City metro area.
33:25 It doesn't need the doesn't need DFW.
33:27 It doesn't need, you know, name your, your favorite place doesn't need Jacksonville.
33:30 It doesn't need any of these places because he's going to get done, whatever he needs
33:34 to get done.
33:35 I mean, we've talked about a lot on this podcast, Middle East, where you have Jesus visiting
33:39 Muslims in their dreams.
33:40 That's what happened with the bill, the bill, Kireshi and you know, he's, he's like literally
33:45 a Muslim apologist and then all of a sudden Jesus is talking to him in his dreams and
33:49 there are places in this country or in this world rather where we can't get missionaries
33:54 into, right?
33:55 Like, and so the Holy Spirit's doing work, uh, where we, where we can't be the hands and
34:00 feet, but we still need to have that obedience and this is coming from the Calvinist.
34:04 We still need to have that obedience to go out and be the hands and feet.
34:09 Well, and because you, well, you're right though, because, and when we've talked about
34:13 on the show as well, like those times when we hear whispers, hey, you can go talk to that
34:16 person.
34:17 All right.
34:18 You need to, you need to pay for that person center.
34:19 Hey, you need to, whatever.
34:20 And if you're anything like me listening to this or the guys at the table, I want to
34:23 be like, well, why, like, what is the purpose as opposed to let's like look moron, like,
34:28 that's not the point.
34:30 The point is not so you can know why the point is I told you to.
34:34 Yeah.
34:35 And you get to choose whether or not you're going to do that or whether you're not going
34:38 to do that or he's going to compel us to do it.
34:39 One of those categories, he's going to like figure that out.
34:41 But yes, we, you know, when we get that nudge to be the hands and feet, we should kind of
34:46 have a pretty good idea where that nudge is coming from.
34:48 Yeah.
34:49 All right, guys, let's keep acts 12, rolling nicely done.
34:52 All right, Dagan, let's go ahead and hit six through 19.
34:59 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers
35:04 found with two chains and centuries stood guard at the entrance.
35:08 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared in a light shown in the cell.
35:12 He struck Peter on the side and woke him up quick.
35:15 Get up, he said.
35:16 And the chains fell off Peter's wrists.
35:19 Then the angel said to him, put on your clothes and sandals and Peter did so.
35:24 Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.
35:27 The angel told him, Peter followed him, followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea
35:32 that what the angel was doing was really happening.
35:35 He thought he was seeing a vision.
35:37 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city.
35:42 It opened for them by itself and they went through it when they had walked the length
35:48 of one street, suddenly the angel left him.
35:51 Then Peter came to himself and said, now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent
35:56 his angel and rescued me from Herod's clutches and from everything the Jewish people were
36:00 hoping would happen.
36:02 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John, also called
36:07 Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.
36:11 Peter knocked at the entrance and a servant named Rhoda came to the answer the door.
36:15 When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it
36:21 and exclaimed, Peter is at the door.
36:23 You're out of your mind, they told her.
36:26 When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, it must be an angel.
36:30 But Peter kept on knocking and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.
36:36 Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought
36:40 him out of prison.
36:42 Paul James and the other brothers and sisters about this, he said, and then he left for
36:46 another place.
36:48 In the morning, there was no small commotion among the soldiers as to what had become
36:53 of Peter.
36:54 After Herod had a thorough search made for him and did not find him, he cross-examined
36:59 the guards and ordered they be executed.
37:02 Oh, more, more?
37:06 Herod went to Judea, from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there.
37:12 Yeah.
37:13 So that was the important part.
37:14 Yeah.
37:15 But you created suspense.
37:16 It was.
37:17 It really worked out.
37:18 It was.
37:19 It was.
37:20 It was very suspicious.
37:21 But what happens next?
37:22 Where did he go?
37:23 Yes.
37:24 Where did he go?
37:25 So, yeah, I mean, at the end, it's pretty rough.
37:26 I literally wrote Ouch in there to where it's like, hey, you lost your prisoner and
37:28 it's like you pay with your life.
37:30 If this ever happened, a lot of these guards or centuries or, you know, whoever was in
37:34 charge, they would actually kill themselves to, you know, potentially save themselves
37:37 from a torturous death.
37:39 They would just take a quick death.
37:41 But I want to actually go back to some kind of funny, like verse 14 is actually funny.
37:45 If you read verse 14, recognizing Peter's voice in her joy, she did not open the gate,
37:50 but ran in and reported that Peter was standing at the gate.
37:53 I like that.
37:54 But like the first time I read it, I completely missed it.
37:58 And then when I went back, I was like, oh my gosh, she got so excited that she forgot
38:01 to do the one thing that she was supposed to do.
38:03 I imagine like this scene, like if this was a movie, right, like Rhoda runs and is in the
38:09 other room.
38:10 And then it, and she's like, Peter's at the door and they're like, that's crazy.
38:14 No, seriously.
38:15 He must be an angel.
38:16 And then it pans back to Peter out of the door.
38:18 He's like, hello.
38:19 Yeah.
38:20 Rhoda.
38:21 Rhoda.
38:22 Yeah.
38:23 Would you please come back?
38:24 Yeah.
38:25 That would be good.
38:26 It's dark out here.
38:27 The door.
38:28 Rhoda.
38:29 Stark out here.
38:30 Guys.
38:31 She's escaped.
38:32 You think about that Irish guy at his funeral that they were playing, he said, I'm going
38:36 to play a song.
38:37 Oh, you know, the guy announced, oh, he wants to play a song for his funeral and they hit
38:41 it.
38:42 And it's a recording of him going, hello, hello, is anyone there?
38:45 And he's knocking.
38:46 He's in the casket.
38:48 And so we like one to give his family like one last laugh.
38:51 So all these people are graveside like literally like melting down because, you know, they're
38:55 their person's dead and he's literally like, oh, just knocking.
38:57 So that's probably what he's experiencing at this moment.
39:00 That's hilarious.
39:01 Anything else in this section, go ahead and talk about whatever you want to talk about.
39:04 Well, you know, it's, it, to me, it's there is a direct analogy to, you know, Peter is,
39:11 he's like, he's an important prisoner, right?
39:13 Like they're, hey, they, they can't execute him now because they're in this Passover and
39:19 the, you know, feast of unleavened bread.
39:21 But they're going to do it as soon as that, as that festival is over.
39:23 So he's an important person.
39:24 They've got him guarded.
39:25 They got him guarded, like multiple places from the front of the prison all the way back
39:30 to the back.
39:31 And then he's literally, he's like sleeping between two people, right?
39:35 So it's like, to me, you know, and the angel comes in and just takes him out of that.
39:40 And y'all like, that is what like there is sometimes where we feel so bound in our sin
39:46 that we literally feel like we are chained to it and we're sleeping between it.
39:50 And then there is, there is like, there's no hope.
39:53 There is, well, I'm, I, I am, I'm chained to this sin.
39:57 And even if I got away from this sin that's current and present, I can see the next trap
40:03 that the devil has for me.
40:04 And then past that is another trap.
40:06 It's like all of these layers and how desperate and like futile that, that place is.
40:11 Yeah.
40:12 Yeah.
40:13 But, but just as the angel came to Peter and just like tapped him and said, get up.
40:17 And then it's like, oh, get dressed.
40:18 And it's like, oh, put on your robe because it's cold outside, right?
40:21 It's like, it's like, hey, do this and, and took him out.
40:24 Like God wants to do that for all of us.
40:29 There is no circumstance that you are in and feel chained to that God can't just deliver
40:35 you from like in an instant, right?
40:39 Like pull you out of the prison, walk you through bars and gates and guards and, and,
40:45 and, and rescue you from it.
40:47 Like the thing that made me think about too is like every time, every time somebody sees
40:50 an angel, they're in fear and like they're freaking out.
40:54 And so I think the angel even says, like, gird up your loins.
40:57 And I remember that.
40:58 So God said to, to Job, like man up, it's like, Hey, get your crap together.
41:01 We got to get out of here.
41:03 We got to get out of here.
41:04 Well, Dagan, that was a nice little sermonette that you just delivered.
41:07 Like, let's, let's, let's go a little further with that because I remember being asked this.
41:12 I came in the context.
41:13 It's not really important, but I remember somebody talking, well, I remember now.
41:16 So I was delivering a talk to a mastermind.
41:19 It's a Christian business mastermind group.
41:21 So shout out Riley Meek and the stuff that he does with King's counsel and all that.
41:25 But I'm talking to this group and the subject matter was discipline because I'm, I'm big
41:28 on discipline, pre-decision, like, you know, do the stuff that you're supposed to do.
41:31 You don't necessarily do what you feel like doing.
41:33 And so I do this talk, right?
41:35 And then it's Q and A time at the end, you know, 15 minutes left or whatever.
41:38 And the very first question and for whatever reason, I could just see by the guy's smarmy
41:41 look on his face, exactly what he was going to say and he goes, well, Kyle, that's all
41:46 well and good for a guy like you.
41:49 You were obviously born very disciplined and you lead a very disciplined life.
41:53 But what about for the rest of us?
41:55 People that aren't born that way.
41:56 And I was like, no, I'm not going to let you do that.
42:00 I make choices every single day about what I'm going to do because you have to constantly
42:05 put deposits in the right bank account, easiest way to talk about is with exercise.
42:09 So I've pre-decided tonight that when I wake up tomorrow morning that I'm going to go
42:14 exercise.
42:15 I'm not going to wait to see how I feel in the morning.
42:18 If I feel recovered enough or if my watch says my body battery is high enough for me
42:22 to exercise that day, I pre-decided that I'm going to get after it.
42:26 Okay.
42:27 And so the same thing happens with with all these disciplines.
42:30 You have to decide that this is something that you can do.
42:33 You're going to put a plan in place and then you're going to execute on it.
42:35 But the same thing happens with people with sin, there's like, okay, so let's take addiction
42:41 to porn.
42:42 Okay.
42:43 So this guy is addicted, but he's, you know, he's got software, he's got accountability
42:48 brothers.
42:49 Like he's fighting against the temptation.
42:51 He stopped masturbating because that's like the key to where he would want to look at,
42:55 you know, this pornographic material.
42:57 So it would be masturbatory.
42:58 So he's, he's attacking the cycle and then you got the other guys just like, man, it's
43:01 just, it's just out of my hands or, or he bought into this crap that it's an actual like addiction
43:06 that needs to have medical treatment or some of that nonsense.
43:09 I feel like a lot of guys with this, they, they're, they're comfortable with the chains.
43:13 Because when you have the chains, then you get a diagnosis and if you get a diagnosis,
43:17 then you could potentially get, you feel normal.
43:19 Yeah.
43:20 You feel normal cause everybody else has, you know, has, you know, orange bottles with
43:23 white tops on it in their, in their bathroom.
43:25 And this one's for my anxiety and this one's for my this and this one's for my that.
43:30 They never had a doctor once tell them like, Hey, have you tried getting sleep exercising
43:33 and eating real food for three months?
43:35 Maybe that'll change your entire life.
43:37 But on the sin piece, I just feel like so many people they can, especially they're just
43:40 like, Nope.
43:41 I'm chained to it.
43:42 They're just getting out and it's just God's not going to deliver me from it.
43:45 So, you know, I'm just going to try my best to live with it.
43:47 Well, or there's the, Hey, you know, the, the angel came to Peter, God comes to someone
43:51 in the midst of their sin and says, Hey, get up, get, get up, get your stuff and come on.
43:55 And they, and they don't.
43:56 Yeah.
43:57 And it's like, Nah, Jesus paid for this.
44:00 Yeah.
44:01 And it's like, wow.
44:02 And the culture we live now and the grace culture that we live now, like even I was stuck
44:06 in that where I'm like, Hey, this is just who I am.
44:09 I need to love who I am.
44:11 You know, I need to love myself.
44:12 Yeah, I need to love myself.
44:13 I need God understands me.
44:15 This is how he made me.
44:16 Yeah.
44:17 Like, no, sin made me this way.
44:18 God show me what is moral and what is right and what is holy.
44:21 I need to strive for that.
44:22 I just saw a video literally today, um, Frank Turk, he was, you know, out of college and
44:27 a woman comes up to the microphone and gives us very, you know, emotional appeal and description.
44:34 But ultimately her point was, why did God make me a lesbian?
44:37 And so we're not going to get into to what Frank said.
44:40 But the answer is, is God did not make you a lesbian.
44:44 He made you in his image.
44:46 Now we all have propensities and we all have different flavors of sin or sense of sin.
44:52 You know, maybe we have a certain scent for the winter of sin or sent for like the summer
44:55 of sin.
44:56 Whatever you're into, but we all have our bent, but we get to choose whether or not we give
45:01 into it.
45:02 So I don't have a chemical bent.
45:04 So I can have one whiskey and be good and I have whiskey again for the rest of the month
45:08 and be fine, but I have friends that when they have one, it's seven, like, and it's,
45:13 it's one and then they just can't stop themselves.
45:15 The chemical has got them for me.
45:18 It's sexual, right?
45:19 So I know that if I crack the door back open to the world of porn, it's just going to be
45:23 a dilution.
45:24 It's going to be very, very hard for me to get out of that.
45:26 So I don't even, I don't even flirt with it.
45:29 So it's like no porn, no masturbation, not at all, not for any reason, not regard, regardless
45:33 of the circumstances.
45:35 But that's, that's the thing that becomes very problematic is when these people buy into
45:38 this idea that I am my proclivity, right?
45:41 So no, I am a lesbian.
45:43 No, you're, you have a proclivity towards same-sex attraction.
45:47 You get to choose whether or not you act on it because having same-sex attraction is
45:51 not a sin acting on your same-sex attraction and having sex with the same-sex partner,
45:57 that is sinful.
45:58 And so I think that that becomes deeply problematic is everybody wants a diagnosis, as I said
46:03 earlier, because then they get to be in some club, they get to join some Reddit board of
46:07 all these other people that struggle in the same way that they do.
46:10 And then you have the, I mean, there's a diagnosis part, okay, so in what's a prescription?
46:14 I mean, the prescription is Christ, it's His saving grace, but then there's a prescription
46:18 of sanctification.
46:19 Yeah.
46:20 It's a prescription of this, there is no more last time.
46:24 My last time was last time.
46:25 Yeah.
46:26 I'm not doing this again.
46:28 And I think whenever people are in the throes of addiction and they're dealing with that,
46:33 so often it's, well, I'll do it just this one last time and that will be it.
46:40 And it's like, nope, that's cracking the door open.
46:43 It won't be your last time.
46:45 Whatever excuse you're making for yourself right now, you're going to make it again and
46:49 you're going to make it again and you're going to make it again.
46:52 When you talk to people who have actually had substance abuse, addictions and alcohol
46:57 addictions, you know, and I've shared the story of my cousin on here before.
47:02 When you talk to people who were dealing with that, I mean, it literally is, I have, I had
47:08 to get to a point.
47:09 It's rock bottom, but it's like, it's not just rock bottom.
47:12 It's I can't make this choice.
47:14 I no longer have the ability to make this choice because if I do, I'm going to die.
47:19 And I think in a way, and it is going to sound maybe a little bit twisted, but in a way,
47:25 I feel like they're so lucky because it's like literally my choice is death or to continue.
47:32 And when you're dealing with addictions where it's like, well, no, I'm not quite at that
47:36 point.
47:37 And I can just keep making these excuses and keep doing things over and over again, whatever
47:41 that sin may be, whatever the sinful choice you have, I mean, if you decide to let the
47:47 door open just a little bit, sin will rush through it.
47:52 Yeah.
47:53 Well, and I promise that that God is calling you in the middle of where you are in your
47:57 sin.
47:58 God's calling you.
47:59 And giving you an opportunity to leave the prison shackles free.
48:03 Hey, all you got to do is get up, get your stuff and follow me and come on.
48:07 Yeah.
48:08 Well, even, yeah, I mean, I don't have anything to add to that.
48:12 That's fantastic.
48:13 I really like the points you were making there.
48:15 Let's go ahead and wrap up axed.
48:17 Or go ahead.
48:18 Yeah, I did.
48:19 Please.
48:20 We get introduced to Mark.
48:21 Nobody wants to talk.
48:22 We get introduced to Mark here.
48:24 Oh, so Mark, Mark is a Mark, kind of kind of an interesting thing here as as people
48:29 maybe get this.
48:30 Marky Mark.
48:31 It's, it's.
48:32 We can let everybody in on the inside joke.
48:35 You want to?
48:36 She'd be.
48:37 Okay.
48:38 Fair enough.
48:39 We'll leave it.
48:40 We'll leave it.
48:41 So, so, okay.
48:42 So Mark originally was assigned to Paul and was supposed to go on his ministry and it did
48:47 not work out.
48:49 Didn't work.
48:51 Basically Paul fired him.
48:53 Personality conflict.
48:54 Yeah.
48:55 Personality conflict irreconcilable differences.
48:57 Whatever you want to call it, and he got sent home and he's, he went back home to live
49:01 with his mom.
49:02 So he's back home and he's made it.
49:06 So he's, so he's back home.
49:09 He's a millennial.
49:11 That's right.
49:12 That's exactly right.
49:13 He's a Gen X.
49:14 Gen X.
49:15 And so, and then suddenly Peter comes in, Peter returns from prison and happens to go into
49:21 his mother's home and marks there and becomes Peter's aid and then writes Mark.
49:31 I guess what I'm saying is just understand that sometimes whenever things don't work
49:36 out the way that you want them to work out or the way that you thought they were going
49:39 to work out, understand that God may just have a different idea of what he's going to
49:44 do with you.
49:45 Well, it's what Ryan said earlier.
49:47 You know, I mean, the answered prayer scenario is it's either yes, no or wait, right?
49:50 It's like, we don't want to wait.
49:53 Like this society really doesn't want to wait, you know, and like my, my, my kids generation,
49:58 they don't even know what weight is, right?
50:01 I got a notification yesterday that my daughter door dashed a drink to dance to her dance
50:08 studio is a $12 Starbucks charge for a $6 drink and it's like, I have to like, we have to
50:15 talk about patience is waiting in my home, you know, but it's, it's, they don't want to
50:18 wait.
50:19 One thing that, that, that I saw in this was back in 15, it says, it struck me, you know,
50:24 they're having this prayer, this prayer group, right?
50:26 Yeah.
50:27 Right in this prayer group and they're praying for something very specific and, and Rhoda
50:33 comes back to the room where they're praying and she's like, Peter's, Peter's here.
50:38 Oh, yeah.
50:39 It's like the thing that they're praying for right happens right there.
50:43 And their responses, you're out of your mind.
50:45 Yeah.
50:46 You know, it's like, God, we wrote it from jail, Peter's at the door.
50:49 No, you're crazy.
50:50 Yeah.
50:51 Go to bed.
50:52 Pretty sure he's sleeping next to two guys.
50:53 Yeah.
50:54 Yeah.
50:55 It's like, it's like in the midst of a miracle, they're like passing it off as a mistake.
50:59 Right.
51:00 Like, no, you know, and I'm like, I do that a lot.
51:04 You know what I mean?
51:05 Like, it's just like your attitudes, like you got to pray as though the thing you're
51:09 praying for is going to knock on your nose.
51:11 Well, that's the thing is like, you, you live in this world sometimes where you're like,
51:15 I'm just going to think about the worst possible situation and go with it.
51:19 So then I don't get let down when it does happen.
51:22 And so like, I feel like back then, like maybe that's how they thought they're like, oh,
51:27 that's never going to happen.
51:28 But like nowadays, like sometimes we're a little over the top.
51:31 We're like, oh, we didn't, we didn't get it.
51:32 We should have gotten it, but we didn't.
51:35 And so now we're going the other direction.
51:37 So it's like finding a good median balance on what in my prayer life, like, I don't want
51:42 to get my hopes up, but I also want to have my faith at the same time.
51:45 Yeah.
51:46 And they're just praying with some level of expectance because again, that that's several
51:49 verses in a row that that's all very funny, like that's like very, very easy, but even
51:54 going back to the point, Jake, that you were making about, Hey, some of them I happened.
51:58 So let's just spend a scenario.
51:59 You're working at Macy's and you're working at the scent counter and you know, maybe even
52:04 you've been taking too many samples home with you of the different clones and they fire
52:07 you.
52:08 And then it's like, you know what?
52:09 Someday you might end up on the forging table.
52:10 Right. So it's just like, that's how I'm just, I, I'm on the forging table.
52:15 I get reamed by a, for my Calvinism for about 45 minutes.
52:19 No, I decide, I decide in my prideful moment that I'm going to leave the forging table.
52:24 But then God's like, no, I'm bringing you right back into the thick of it.
52:27 They're going to give you a hard time about cologne for the next couple of episodes.
52:31 That's right.
52:32 Are you wearing something to that?
52:33 Like now?
52:34 He already asked.
52:35 Yes.
52:36 I'm gonna look close after this and I'm gonna, I'm gonna experience it.
52:40 You know, kiss me like Winkler try to.
52:42 Oh God.
52:43 Well, he can't.
52:44 What?
52:45 Yeah.
52:46 Yeah, that happened before we started recording guys.
52:48 It was awkward for everybody involved.
52:51 There was cuddling involved, but hey, we don't have to go there right now.
52:53 We do have polar bears.
52:54 Hey, that's okay.
52:55 No.
52:56 No.
52:57 Okay.
52:58 Let's get back to the Bible before it gets any worse acts 12 Winkler.
53:02 If you wouldn't mind being serious for five seconds and finished with 20 versus 25.
53:07 Now Herod was angry with the people of Tyre and Satan and they came to him with one accord
53:13 and having persuaded blastus, the King's Chamberlain.
53:16 They asked for peace because their country depended on the king's country for food.
53:23 On an appointed day, Herod put on his royal robes, I'm sorry, horn, go on on an appointed
53:31 day, Herod put on his royal robes, took his seat upon the throne and delivered an oration
53:36 to them.
53:37 And the people were shouting the voice of a God, not of a man, immediately an angel of
53:41 the Lord struck him down because he did not give God the glory and he was eaten by worms
53:46 and breathed his last.
53:48 But the word of God increased and multiplied and Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem
53:53 when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark.
53:58 Are you guys going to be okay?
53:59 Are we going to have to separate you two?
54:01 All right, I'm so glad to hear that you guys have recovered.
54:04 Now, interesting thing about this.
54:06 So I tried to do a little bit of research to see what other places has said about the
54:10 death of Herod, a grip of the first.
54:12 And essentially there is consensus that he had some sort of intestinal worm.
54:17 The only thing I thought was weird, I don't know why it struck me as weird said, immediately
54:20 an angel of the Lord struck him down because he did not give God the glory and he was
54:24 eaten by worms and breathed his last.
54:26 And so it's like every description that I heard was that he suffered mightily for the
54:31 last week of his life from, yeah, five days, that's why I saw as well, from this intestinal
54:36 thing.
54:37 And so it's like, okay, did he immediately strike him down on the back end of the things
54:43 that were happening intentionally or something like that?
54:45 So again, I'm not like challenging the Bible and that's a problem striking him down me.
54:49 He may have fell hit the ground.
54:51 And so from what I read and in R.C. Sproul talked about it, he talked about what was written
54:57 here and then also what was written by Josephus and on the antiquities of the Jews, antiquities
55:03 of the Jews.
55:05 The Herod was like dressed like a frickin like Marvel star like he had like silver like like
55:12 sewn into his cave, like walking in like he's like, I don't know, like a rock star.
55:18 And then everybody was just glorifying him and glorifying him.
55:24 And then that's when he took and said, you know, he was like he was God and then he was
55:27 just struck down.
55:28 He just fell to the ground.
55:30 And that's what I think they mean by that.
55:31 But yeah, it was like five days.
55:33 Some people say it was arsenic poisoning could have been worms or could have been appendicitis.
55:39 They don't know.
55:40 Yeah, the, the dynamic here between when Cornelius meets Peter and bows down and he's a stand
55:52 up on the man, stand up on the man.
55:55 Here's Herod.
55:56 He's executed.
55:57 James.
55:58 He tried to imprison Peter.
55:59 He got he got away.
56:01 Herod shows up and he's in this silver clad robe that it's meant to make him look like a
56:06 God.
56:07 So royal robes here in Luke, Josephus actually goes into a lot of detail in terms of what
56:12 he was wearing and it was, I mean, he would have made a drag queen look conservative.
56:19 He looks like he was walking into a queen concert.
56:23 That's right.
56:24 And so he's, he's, I mean, he is dressed to the hilt.
56:27 He's gotten this robe that he had on was like, had so much silver on it that when the light
56:31 hit it, it like was so bright.
56:35 And so they start basically talking about him like he's a God and he does not stop it.
56:42 And that's it.
56:44 Where's it?
56:45 Yeah.
56:46 And my favorite part about it is he dies.
56:48 And then it goes, but the word of God increased and multiplied like boom, like this dude just
56:54 gets dropped.
56:55 And it's like, and the word of God just multiplied.
56:57 Yeah.
56:58 And he isn't stop it.
56:59 He is a footnote.
57:00 This is a guy that was worshiping at the altar of self and high on his own farts.
57:03 And he's like just a footnote and and importantly, hunting down Christians and trying to kill
57:09 the Christian leadership.
57:10 Right.
57:11 It didn't matter.
57:12 Guys, anything else?
57:13 Well, anything else on acts 12, I feel the need to do this, but I'm not just going to
57:18 do it by, you know, by fiat here, because this is the last time Winkler is going to be here.
57:24 I feel like we just need to do a quick round of trivia to see, you know, maybe just first
57:28 to two, first to two to see.
57:31 Let's do first to three. I want to redeem us. Okay. Are we in? Are we all in? I'm in.
57:36 Kyle did I just get kicked off the forge? No. I'm like, what happened? All right. Well,
57:42 I don't have, I don't have the thing. So they best way to do this is I'm going to write
57:46 down a number between one and one hundred. And so whoever's closest to that number, you
57:50 get to go first. So I am not going to be included in this. Okay. I've written down the number
57:56 J. Give me your guess. 52 horn, 73, 73, 51, the nicely done, but it was 77. So horn, you
58:07 are first. This is fantastic. That means he gets to go last. Okay. So scouts on or scouts
58:12 on or look right here at laugh, gaff, generate quiz, generate quiz, new quiz, internets
58:16 back.
58:17 The first question, Ryan Horn, what is the first element of the periodic table? You got
58:23 this, you know this, you got it. Come on, baby, it's aluminum, hydrogen hydrogen hydrogen.
58:29 All right. Well, this is not, this is not a great start. All right. Uh, they get wrapped
58:35 superstar. Andre Young is better known by what name? Oh, yeah, Dr. Dre. Yes, sir. You're
58:43 in Dr. Dre. D. R. E. Mine is what is the name of the spaceship and the movie alien? No,
58:50 I did never saw it. We'll say Kapukas. All right. It's the Nostromo, the Nostromo. I
58:57 thought it was. All right. Here we go. What is the name of the snowman's dog in the movie
59:02 smoking the bandit? Oh my gosh. That's for you, Winkler. Lyle. No, no, no. Can I guess you
59:12 can guess you're not going to get it, but it's flash. It's Fred Fred. Oh, it is Fred. All
59:17 right. Horn back. Well, you know, we only got one guy on the board's digging. All right.
59:21 First impressions was the original title of which book. First impressions. Yeah. Revelation.
59:34 Judges. First impressions was the title of which book. Great expectations. Pride and
59:45 prejudice by Jane Austen. All right. Dagan Boyd, which Italian city was explore Marco
59:49 Polo from? Oh, shoot. Japa Marco Polo was from was he from Florence? Venice. He was from
1:00:02 Venice. All right. Kyle in which European city did Jim Morrison die? The doors there.
1:00:09 Which European city? I'll say Paris. Paris. I did just say it. Ready to go. I have not
1:00:18 given up. Oh, I would two seconds into my guessing. And then you're like, you just say
1:00:22 it. So I'll take it. So all right, Winkler to pull into a three way tie with me and Dagan
1:00:27 in Greek mythology of which island was a Minos king. Crete. Crete. Winkler is on the board
1:00:37 horn still goose egg, Dagan and Kyle with one apiece. Horn. We need you on the board here.
1:00:43 Which scientist first formulated the three laws of motion? Newton. Yes, or Isaac Newton,
1:00:52 you're on the board. Everybody's tied at one. Dagan, what is the collective noun for a group
1:01:00 of rhinoceros? Do not say I'm going to call them a. Bevy. Packeter. It's a crash. A crash.
1:01:23 Hey, that's pretty frickin awesome. I did not know that. Okay. Mine is what currency
1:01:28 was used in France before the Euro. I'm gonna say the frunk. Bam. All right. I've got two.
1:01:33 I'm one away from winning Winkler. You got to stay on pace here. Who was the youngest
1:01:38 king of England? The youngest king of England. Yes, sir. It's one of the Lancaster. I'm gonna
1:01:50 go Henry the sixth need a final answer here. And read the sixth. Yeah, you got it. I wish
1:02:01 you had said Henry the fifth dad. Come it. That's why I asked you final answer. I was
1:02:04 hoping you would change your mind. All right. Winkler and I are tied at two horn and Dagan
1:02:09 tied at one. Here we go. Next round. Ryan, who wrote the Tarzan series of books?
1:02:15 We are Kipling. Not a bad guess. Maybe Edgar Rice burrows. Oh, yeah. I don't even know
1:02:25 who that guy is. I didn't even know Tarzan was a book. All right. Dagan and the 1964
1:02:32 Good Friday earthquake occurred in what U.S. state. California. Alaska. Wow. Wow. All
1:02:42 me with a chance to win. You all could see the smile. Oh my gosh. Thompson's face right
1:02:49 now. It wasn't a man. He smells victory. He smells victory. The funny thing about it is
1:02:54 I just read it just now. And I'm like, I think I know it, but I'm not exactly sure. So it's
1:02:58 what is the tallest mountain in Africa? I know. Say Kilimanjaro. That's it. That's it.
1:03:06 Do you believe in miracles? We have a new champion at the top of trivia mountain. Kyle
1:03:13 prays for this. Who wants to touch me? Anybody want to touch me? Hey, do we need to worry
1:03:17 about silver medals or is it just we just worry about gold right now? See the way I look
1:03:21 at it. It's two out of three. Oh, you're you're currently up to the one. If we're playing
1:03:27 a world. If we're playing a series here, okay, bet. So throughout the year, we will finish
