0:50 This is Undaunted Life of Man's Podcast.
0:54 I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:56 Let's get into it.
0:57 Welcome back to the forging table.
0:58 The mission of Undaunted Life is equipping men to push back darkness with content that
1:02 forges spiritual, mental and physical resilience.
1:05 At the forging table, you'll see a group of regular guys forging spiritual resilience
1:08 by digging into God's word and we're welcoming all of you to come along on that journey with
1:11 us.
1:12 That's Dagan.
1:13 That's Ryan.
1:14 That's Jake.
1:15 Guys, do I strike you as a guy that likes silver medals?
1:16 No.
1:17 No.
1:18 No.
1:19 If you ain't first your last funny thing about that quote, as you should mention it, whenever
1:23 he said that until a day good night, you know what everyone in the theater did?
1:25 They laughed because they thought it was a joke.
1:27 You know, the only one who didn't laugh because that's how I think of the world because there
1:32 is first place and then there's a bunch of different levels of loser.
1:35 Okay.
1:36 I remember there was a hockey player back in the day that was excoriated because his hockey
1:41 team had gotten second place in the championship.
1:43 So they're skating by getting their second place medal.
1:46 So here you go.
1:47 This sad guy gets a medal.
1:48 Here you go.
1:49 This sad guy gets a medal.
1:50 This guy gets his medal, takes it off and immediately chucks it into the rafters and
1:54 I was like, I get it.
1:56 That is the appropriate response.
1:58 So I don't like silver medals.
1:59 I don't keep silver medals.
2:01 Like if you get a second place trophy, you're like celebrating to the world that you're like
2:04 the biggest of all the losers because you almost won, but then you didn't.
2:09 So a couple months back, we did trivia here on Don life and man's podcast and what happened
2:18 was is I went to laughgaff.com, the only random quiz generator that I could get.
2:25 And I would get questions like, what is the gross national product of Belize in 1984 and
2:30 Jake would get, you know, how do you spell blue?
2:34 And it's just like, okay.
2:35 And so Jake Winkler got first place and I got second place.
2:39 You sure did.
2:40 And I cannot stand for it.
2:41 So we are doing it again, but I'm going to tell you what we're doing it for.
2:44 Okay.
2:45 So I've got the cards.
2:46 I might shuffle those up and I'll cut them.
2:48 This is what we're going to do because this came up in a discussion the other day and
2:52 I was like, okay, that's an interesting question.
2:55 I think it came in for ask a pastor or for AMA or whatever.
2:59 And so it was, if you had to build out a dinner party and you could only use people from the
3:05 Bible, who would be the four people at your table?
3:09 Okay.
3:10 So as opposed to us just answering that, we're going to do a draft and in order to determine
3:14 draft order, we are going to do trivia.
3:17 We're going to go around in a circle.
3:18 First person to get three, you get number one overall draft pick and then second, third
3:22 and fourth.
3:23 And then we're going to do a Bible draft and everybody gets four guests of Bible characters
3:27 at their table for dinner.
3:28 Okay.
3:29 That's the only fair way I could do it.
3:30 So we're playing highcard right now.
3:31 Everyone that watched on YouTube land, they can just shuffle them up.
3:34 I just cut them.
3:35 So highcard, highcard goes first.
3:36 We got a six of clubs.
3:38 We got a four spades for Winkler.
3:40 We got a joker for Dagen.
3:42 So we're going to switch it to the next card and nine of hearts.
3:45 And I got a Jack.
3:46 So highcard.
3:47 So I go first.
3:48 We'll just go in, um, clock, whatever, clock order, clockwise, there it is.
3:52 We're going to go clockwise.
3:53 And so we're doing laugh, gaff again.
3:55 And the rules are first person to get three questions correct.
3:59 You get that draft pick.
4:00 Okay.
4:01 So you're, you would be first round, you know, first pick and the first round, that type
4:03 of thing.
4:04 So Dagen, just so we can do scouts on or you see, I'm on laughgaff.com.
4:07 I'm hitting generate quiz.
4:08 This is a brand new quiz quiz that I have not seen.
4:11 Let's see if it does it.
4:13 All right.
4:14 Here we go.
4:15 So I got the first question.
4:16 Anybody excited?
4:17 You should be Finway Park is the home stadium of which baseball team.
4:23 I will take this one.
4:24 We'll go ahead and say Boston Red Sox.
4:25 Is that correct?
4:26 Bam.
4:27 All right.
4:28 That's one for daddy.
4:29 It's supposed to be.
4:30 All right.
4:31 No, it's not by.
4:32 Were you here for the last time?
4:33 No, I wasn't.
4:34 Did you listen to it?
4:35 It's just random.
4:36 It's just random things.
4:37 It'll, it'll make more sense about time.
4:38 It gets you.
4:39 Okay.
4:40 Okay.
4:41 You get another one of these.
4:44 Okay.
4:45 God, I wish this is Dagan's turn.
4:46 What fruit is the U.S. state of Georgia famous for?
4:49 Peaches.
4:50 This is a stupid.
4:51 Okay.
4:52 Ryan, here we go.
4:55 Which part of a guitar shares its name with a word meaning to worry?
5:01 Fred.
5:02 Fan.
5:03 Freaking.
5:04 Tastic.
5:05 Here's the thing about last time.
5:06 It took us like 25 minutes to get to the end of this.
5:09 This is how bad we are.
5:11 So Dagan, don't be the first moron at the table.
5:12 So here you go.
5:14 Which 1977 film won seven Oscars, but none for acting?
5:20 Wow.
5:22 Thanks.
5:23 Yeah.
5:24 Jaws.
5:25 Star Wars.
5:26 I was gonna say Star Wars.
5:27 I really was.
5:28 You know, but you didn't.
5:29 So after one revolution, it's one to one to one to absolutely nothing.
5:38 And Dagan, you're so, so, so dumb.
5:39 Okay.
5:40 Here's the first one.
5:41 Oh my gosh.
5:42 Okay.
5:43 What land animal has the highest blood pressure?
5:46 Ryan horn.
5:47 No.
5:48 No, that's not my guess.
5:52 What land animal has the highest blood pressure?
5:55 I mean, I'll say hippo, hippie, he pop anonymous, a giraffe giraffe, yeah, they're all spread
6:03 out.
6:04 That's got to pump the blood all the way up.
6:05 All right.
6:06 Here we go.
6:07 Yeah.
6:08 Take how?
6:09 You just living right.
6:10 All right.
6:11 Well, man, you're, you can at least get this one via guess.
6:13 Okay.
6:14 All right.
6:15 In which two of the gospels of the Bible does the phrase man does not live by bread
6:18 alone appear, which, which two gospels, which two gospel does it not appear?
6:25 Does it appear?
6:26 Okay.
6:27 I'm gonna say Matthew and Luke, Matthew and Luke.
6:32 Winkler takes a command to one to one to one to nothing lead.
6:36 And I hate everything about myself.
6:38 All right, Ryan, please, please stay.
6:40 So he can't, you know, I'm rooting for everybody at this table, except for Winkler, except
6:44 for the Shrek size forging table.
6:45 Okay.
6:46 Here we go.
6:47 Number seven, the number seven question.
6:48 What did blue oyster cult tell us not to fear?
6:51 Don't fear the reaper.
6:52 That's an easy one.
6:53 Don't fear the reaper.
6:54 Come on, baby.
6:55 It is two to two to one to nothing.
6:59 We got to get you on the board.
7:01 Okay.
7:02 And this one's, this one's not bad, who lives in a trash can on Sesame Street?
7:06 Oh, Winkler.
7:07 Oscar.
7:08 Oscar.
7:09 The grouch.
7:10 All right.
7:11 It is two to two with Dagan and horn or with Winkler and horn and Dagan and me bringing
7:18 up the caboose.
7:19 All right.
7:20 Here's my next one.
7:21 What is the most abundant metal on earth?
7:24 Heavy metal.
7:25 No.
7:26 I'm kidding.
7:27 I'm kidding.
7:28 That's not what I take.
7:29 Talk to me like a disappointed father just said, what's the most metal that's most abundant
7:33 iron?
7:34 Aluminum.
7:35 Aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum aluminum

7:50 Sounds like a layup looks like a layup.
7:56 The story of Samson appears in which book of the Old Testament?

8:04 Don't give any heads.
8:05 Chronicles.
8:06 Grr.
8:07 Judges.
8:08 Bam.
8:09 God.
8:10 You.

8:13 What?
8:14 How many?
8:15 Everybody misses this one.
8:16 How many animals do Moses put on the art?
8:18 Moses did.
8:19 Oh, he got it.
8:20 Yes.
8:21 Picked it up.
8:22 Winkler still sharp.
8:23 Here we go.
8:24 All right.
8:25 All right.
8:26 All right.
8:27 You can take.
8:28 I'm with this.
8:29 You would get a judge.
8:30 Okay.
8:31 Well, no freaking crap.
8:32 I didn't get to choose.
8:33 All right.
8:34 Here we go.
8:35 What is the capital city of Australia?
8:36 Oh, man.
8:37 No, it's not.
8:38 No.
8:39 Canbera.
8:40 Oh man.
8:41 All of our Australian listeners are so mad at you because they hate Jake Winkler too.

8:53 Yeah.
8:54 Wow.
8:55 That was a barn burner.
8:56 Two to two to one.
8:58 I'm the biggest idiot at the table so far, but there's a long way to go.
9:01 All right.
9:02 Here's my question.
9:03 What is the only country that shares a land border with Singapore?
9:06 Oh, I think I know this.
9:09 A land border with Singapore land border.
9:15 Do they give you pics?
9:17 No.
9:18 Nope.
9:19 It's not multiple choice.
9:20 No, wireless.
9:21 I would be giving you choices.
9:22 Bangladesh, I'm going to say Vietnam, say Papua New Guinea.
9:30 I was going to say Laos.
9:31 We're all dumb.
9:32 It's Malaysia.
9:33 All right.
9:34 So just so everyone.
9:35 All right.
9:36 Winkler, you somehow have made it all the way around and we are back to you.
9:42 This is so stupid.
9:43 How?
9:44 How do you get these questions?
9:46 The Merino is a breed of which animal?
9:48 The Merino?
9:49 The Merino.
9:50 Quarterback.
9:51 Oh, I know it.
9:52 It's a sheep.
9:53 It's a sheep.
9:54 It's a sheep.
9:55 I thought it was a quarterback.
9:57 So Jake Winkler, we'll get the first overall pick.
10:01 How does he get the first overall pick?
10:02 Because he got to three.
10:03 Did you not listen to the instructions either?
10:05 I don't even get a chance.
10:06 No, but you do want the last pick?
10:08 So he, you want the second draft pick, don't you?
10:10 I do.
10:11 So if you get this right, you get second draft pick.
10:12 Okay.
10:13 You with us?
10:14 Okay.
10:15 Here we go.
10:16 Would you compete for the Swailing Cup, Swailing Cup, S-W-A-Y-T-H-L-I-N-G cup, Swailing

11:06 Yeah.
11:07 All right.
11:08 Boom.
11:09 So I got two, but you got a chance right here.
11:10 Yeah.
11:11 Okay.
11:12 Can we, okay.
11:13 Let's just take a quick vote.
11:14 Better band, Nirvana or Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Nirvana, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam and
11:21 Pearl Jam.
11:22 Okay.
11:23 The only way, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, that's okay.
11:25 The only way to solve this is which lead singer didn't blow their face off.
11:29 Oh, Pearl Jam.
11:30 So Pearl Jam wins the tie, wins the tie.
11:32 I'm just saying, which, which one?
11:34 Rhett's baby.
11:35 Hey, had Kurt Cobain not blown his head off.
11:36 No one would even care about that band.
11:38 No one would even care about that band, most overrated band ever, other than Beatles overrated
11:42 day. The best thing about Nirvana is the Foo Fighters.
11:45 So sorry.

11:51 All right.
11:52 Nirvana part two is Foo Fighters.

12:04 This actually came up in the last one.
12:06 Yes.
12:07 We, I know that.
12:08 Oh, really?
12:09 Because of the last one.
12:10 Yeah.
12:11 I do listen to the show.
12:12 You can't, what are you?
12:13 Are we phoning a friend?
12:14 You're asking for hints?
12:15 Internet's down.
12:16 I can't text anybody.
12:17 Right.
12:18 So LHR.
12:19 Need an answer.
12:20 He's in hobby.

12:26 I get a chance to get what famous singer was born with the name Reginald Dwight.
12:35 Oh, I know this one.
12:36 I do too.
12:37 Yep.
12:38 If you don't know it, let me answer it.
12:39 That's not how the game works.
12:40 Do you not need or pay attention at all?
12:43 Like literally at all?
12:44 No, you don't get to steal.
12:46 Thanks.
12:47 Thank you.
12:48 Reginald Dwight.
12:49 You said thanks rocket man.
12:52 So is it the guy that sings that or are you throwing me off?
12:55 I'll just go with it.

12:58 Elton John.
12:59 I have the third pick.

13:09 Okay.
13:10 All right.

13:37 All right.
13:38 I did not redeem myself.
13:39 I tried.
13:40 I tried to get Winkler out of here, but it's like, hey, you know, Winkler.
13:42 What's your favorite color is basically the questions that he gets.
13:45 So here we go.
13:46 All right.
13:47 So Winkler with the first pick in the Bible, you're coming over to my house for dinner
13:50 draft.
13:51 You select Jesus.
13:52 Okay.
13:53 Some none of us can select Jesus.
13:54 Yes.
13:55 That's how draft drafts work.
13:56 You don't get to pick the guy that the people just picked before you and then be able to take.
14:00 That's how draft.
14:01 Can you pick the routine plan?
14:03 Only in the racial draft.
14:04 Dagan.
14:05 Dagan, you are up.
14:08 Your pick.

14:27 David fell all the way down there, not a snake draft.
14:29 So Jake, we're going right back to you.
14:31 Your second pick Moses, he's got Jesus and Moses.
14:39 This is working out well for you.
14:41 So far, Dagan, you are up.
14:43 I'm going to go Solomon.
14:45 Solomon.
14:46 All right.
14:47 I'm going to go with a little bit of a dark horse pick.
14:50 You know, it's going to, you know, maybe taking a risk, taking him in the second round.
14:53 I want Judas taking Judas.
14:57 I want to know what was up with him.
14:59 I'm going to know what exactly is going on.
15:00 So I got Peter and Judas.

15:27 Greatest hits over here.
15:28 I know.

15:35 John the Baptist, John, the Baptist.
15:42 Very, very good.

15:45 So it's going to be Peter, Judas and Adam at my table.
15:50 So here we go.
15:51 All right.
15:52 Last pick.
15:53 Last pick for Winkler.
15:55 You've got Jesus.
15:56 I have a pick one.
15:57 Sorry.

16:34 Dang it.
16:35 I want to do him.
16:36 Suck it.
16:37 The apostle John is on my team.
16:40 You lose.
16:42 So two guys that both form their own nicknames.
16:46 So yeah.
16:47 I didn't want them on your team.
16:48 I didn't want you to have that.
16:49 I mean, David's going to be there.
16:50 You want Bathsheba.
16:51 Maybe at your table.
16:52 See what that's like.
16:53 Maybe Uriah can come and hang out.
16:55 No.
16:56 Not a fan.
16:57 So you got David.
16:58 Joseph and Samuel.
16:59 Oh, man.
17:00 I think it'd be fun.
17:02 It's the last pick.
17:06 Got to be really important.
17:08 I know.
17:09 It's very important.
17:10 Nehemiah.
17:11 Nehemiah.
17:12 All right.
17:13 That's who I thought I was going to be able to steal in the last round.
17:20 But John was somehow still available.
17:21 No one takes Noah.
17:22 No one takes Abraham.
17:24 He took Abraham.
17:25 Wait.
17:26 No.
17:27 All right.
17:28 Yeah.
17:29 Same thing.
17:30 So are there any other ones that, you know, upon further review, were really, really stupid
17:33 for leaving out?
17:35 Jonah.
17:36 Jonah.
17:37 Jeremiah.
17:38 Jeremiah Matthew.
17:39 Elijah.
17:40 Matthew.
17:41 Elijah.
17:42 Isaiah.
17:43 Samson.
17:44 Even though you didn't even know that.
17:45 Did you know Samson was in the Bible?
17:46 I didn't know he's there.
17:47 It's the only thing.
17:48 It's the only question you got wrong.
17:49 It's the only...
17:50 Dorkus.
17:51 No, what door?
17:52 Was it Dorsas?
17:53 Dorsas.
17:54 Dorsas.
17:55 Shout out to Dorsas.
17:56 We love you, girl.
17:57 All right, guys.
17:58 But this is what we're going to do.
17:59 We need everybody in the comment section to vote who has the best table, who has the
18:02 best Bible table.
18:03 So we have Winkler's table.
18:05 Jesus.
18:06 Well...
18:07 Yeah.
18:08 I mean, well...
18:09 Yeah.
18:10 All right.
18:11 Winkler is out.
18:12 We're just not going to consider Winkler.
18:13 So of the rest of us...
18:14 Vote against Jesus.
18:15 I dare you.
18:16 Yeah.
18:17 I'm taking it off the table.
18:18 I'm taking it off the table.
18:19 Dagan, his table is Paul, Solomon, John the Baptist and Joshua.
18:23 My table is Peter, Judas, Adam and John the Apostle and Horn has David, Joseph, Samuel
18:31 and Nehemiah.
18:32 So leave comments to let us know who's got the best of that crew, but we've had our
18:35 fun.
18:36 Now it's time to get down to business.
18:37 Let's go and dig into Acts 11.
18:39 So let's just say, Dagan, how about you read...
18:44 It's kind of a decent sized section here, but probably needs to all stay in one.
18:49 So let's do one through 18.
18:52 Excuse me.
18:55 All right.
19:00 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received
19:04 the Word of God.
19:05 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him and said, "You went
19:11 into the house of an uncircumcised men and ate with them.
19:15 Start from the beginning.
19:17 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story.
19:19 I was in the city of Japa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision.
19:23 I saw something like a large sheet being led down from heaven by its four corners, and
19:28 it came down to where I was.
19:30 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds.
19:35 Then I heard a voice telling me, "Get up, Peter.
19:38 Kill and eat."
19:40 I replied, "Surely not, Lord, nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.
19:44 The voice spoke from heaven a second time, do not call anything impure that God has made
19:50 clean."
19:51 This happened three times, and then it was pulled up to heaven again.
19:55 Right then, three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where
20:01 I was staying.
20:02 The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them.
20:06 These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man's house.
20:10 He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, "Send to Japa for Simon
20:15 who is called Peter.
20:17 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved."
20:22 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.
20:30 Then I remembered what the Lord said, "John baptized with water, but you will be baptized
20:35 with the Holy Spirit."
20:37 So if God gave them the same gift he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ,
20:42 who was I to think that I could stand in God's way?
20:46 When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, "So then
20:51 even to Gentiles, God has granted repentance that leads to life."
20:55 Very good.
20:56 What version of the Bible are you reading?
20:58 I think this is NIV.
20:59 Okay, NIV.
21:00 So Ryan, we table discussion last week, so if you want to go ahead and bring that up,
21:04 let's hit it.
21:05 Yeah.
21:06 So basically, the Holy Spirit falls onto the Gentiles and last week towards the end.
21:12 And so this week, he now goes back to Jerusalem to say, "Hey, this is what's happened."
21:18 And like the first thing they do, you just get hit with legalism, straight up like, "Oh,
21:23 you wait with uncircumcised people?
21:25 How could you?"
21:27 And so it just kind of goes to show how the Holy Spirit can come upon people like we talked
21:32 about a couple weeks back.
21:37 What's your name?
21:38 Dorsos?
21:39 No, not Dorsos.
21:40 The...
21:41 The singer?
21:42 No, the wicked lady who is now like a Christian.
21:44 Oh.
21:45 Cap-on-dee.
21:46 Cap-on-dee.
21:47 Yeah, yeah, yeah.
21:48 And Russell Brand, and like how we look at them, we're like, "Well, you're not doing
21:50 these things or you're not circumcised or you're not fitting this mold."
21:54 And we automatically write them off and we automatically just want to go and say, you
21:58 know, like they don't fit the mold.
22:00 So this isn't going to work.
22:01 And that's what these guys are doing.
22:02 But then he goes in the end and he says, "I've got to go back over."
22:08 But if God then gave them the same gift that He's given us when we believed in Jesus Christ,
22:16 what was I that who was I that I could stand in God's way?
22:23 Like how many times are we standing in God's way when something like this happens with
22:26 people and then like discouraging them?
22:29 And I feel like at first there was discouragement among the legalist class of these guys, but
22:33 then like they heard this and he spoke to them and then it all started to praise.
22:38 Like, I feel like we should have that more often when somebody like a Russell Brand or
22:42 a Cap-on-dee or even Kanye West, like I shouldn't have been so skeptical, you know?
22:47 Even though discernment kind of fit with that one a little bit, but still, when we start
22:51 to become skeptics, we lose what God is trying to do and I think we got to be able to keep
22:56 our eyes open.
22:57 That's kind of what I got from this.
22:58 It's the old phrase that we judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions.
23:02 Yeah.
23:03 I think there's so much of that whenever we talk about people who come to the faith, you
23:10 know, when you start going through their roster of offenses, well, they said this, they did
23:16 this, they believed this, completely disregarding the fact that they're a completely new creation
23:23 now.
23:24 Yep.
23:25 Like, it's all clean.
23:26 Just like you were, just like you were, you did this, you said this, you believed this,
23:33 it's no different, it's just you're down the road and somehow you think you deserve it
23:39 or earned it or something and you've done nothing, nothing to deserve any of this.
23:46 Well, you know, and he says that, who was I to think?
23:49 Yeah.
23:50 It's like, well, who in the world am I to evaluate what God's doing and it's only real
23:59 if it makes sense to me, right?
24:01 If it doesn't make sense to me, it's probably not real.
24:04 Like that's, I feel like that's typically the attitude I had written down.
24:07 God doesn't always work in the ways we expect.
24:10 So we need to be ready to accept his plan when it's different than our expectations,
24:14 right?
24:15 Yeah.
24:16 So it's, so it's not just Kat Von D, a Russell brand or Kanye West or any like famous person.
24:21 It's like, it can be your brother, it can be someone in your Sunday school, it can be
24:25 just someone at your church.
24:26 And so like, I'm default skeptic, right?
24:29 But there's a big difference between being a skeptic and a cynic.
24:31 A cynic can't have their position changed.
24:34 They will always find a way to use a lot of skeptics just like, I don't really know.
24:38 But in this circumstance, it's like at least initially put both of those things away, put
24:42 skepticism away, put cynicism away, just assume that they mean it.
24:47 Now there is a point where it's like, okay, we need to start seeing some fruit of this
24:53 conversion.
24:54 So we brought up content.
24:55 U S, I think we mentioned it a couple of weeks ago, but it's like, you know, he puts
24:57 out this album.
24:58 He's talking about Jesus on, you know, Joe Rogans podcast and he's, you know, sharing
25:02 Jesus, everybody and doing Sunday service and doing all that stuff.
25:04 Now he's running a porn company and he's divorced again.
25:07 He certainly had multiple girlfriends post divorce from Kim Kardashian.
25:12 And like, there was a whole lot of things in his life that is not even vaguely fruitful
25:17 as you know, like you don't need to have John MacArthur standard for fruit, you know, even
25:21 in this scenario, even if you just take a very relaxed standard of fruit, you're just
25:24 not seeing any of it in Kanye West life.
25:27 And so it's, it's hard to impugn motives on a guy like that.
25:29 Okay, did you do that in order to, to make money because that was a swerve that lost
25:35 him money, right?
25:36 Really like wearing the MAGA hat and doing a gospel rap album that I'm sure that didn't
25:41 elevate his public profile?
25:42 You know what I mean?
25:43 It took, it took you to a different audience, but no one in your audience, which is significantly
25:47 bigger, thought it, thought it was better.
25:49 They didn't want to do it.
25:50 One thing I think of is like, we've always talked about delayed sanctification.
25:53 And like I can tell you, like when I first became like a believer in everything, like
25:57 I, I went down still the wrong paths.
25:59 The fruit that I had was still not good fruit, but I was making excuses on an isegetical biblical
26:05 level on why I could make the decisions I was making, you know?
26:09 And so who knows if he's there at that point, you know, and he's like, well, you're all
26:13 a bunch of legalists and I'm going to do some mental gymnastics in my head to make a point,
26:17 but who knows when God's going to change his heart and open his eyes to what he's doing
26:22 because God's continually moving on us, continually moving on me.
26:26 Like I change every day.
26:27 I'm not totally the guy I was 10 years ago, you know, but I'm not, I'm not too dumb to
26:33 the fact that I was, I'm a sinner.
26:34 I was a sinner.
26:35 I still am a sinner and I need sanctification all the time.
26:38 So I think we just need to show these people grace.
26:41 I've got a family member that's like in the throes of addiction and they're, they say
26:45 that they came to Christ and I'm going to trust that they're in Christ, you know, and even
26:49 though there are some things that they do or are not good and I think are moving them
26:53 back towards or at the time was moving them back towards addiction, I still didn't have
26:58 loss in their salvation or think that they weren't saved.
27:00 I was just like, man, you're just not making the right decisions, you know?
27:03 And so they end up making the right decisions at some point, you know, or they make the
27:07 wrong decisions and who knows when God's going to run on their heart.
27:10 Well, it's, it's interesting, like who we picked a judge, like you mentioned, what
27:13 if it was your brother and in my frame of reference, it's like my son, you know, I've
27:17 got three kids and I've got a son and went, he's the oldest and he was the first one to
27:21 accept Jesus.
27:22 And when he did, I wasn't, there wasn't a shred of doubt in me.
27:25 It was celebrating.
27:27 My entire home was celebrating this, this decision that he had come to and, and started asking
27:32 questions about and he wanted to be baptized and, but, but you're exactly right.
27:37 Like, then after that, what I want to see is I want to see fruit because I want to make
27:41 sure that it's not something that he is replicating that he's just learned to do in our home.
27:46 And oh, this is what you do and my friend got baptized last year.
27:49 And I want to, I want to do that.
27:50 And I want to have my, you know, picture up on the screen and get baptized.
27:53 That looks great.
27:54 I wanted to see like, okay, well, I, you know, part of it is the dad is I'm going to equip
28:00 him with, you know, good habits and we're going to have conversation, but I want to
28:04 see the fruit, right?
28:06 But, but I can't, I can't celebrate when my son makes that decision and then be like
28:13 judgmental and dismissive of a celebrity doing it, right?
28:17 Like it's, it's anytime someone says I've chosen to believe in Jesus, we should have
28:22 the same reaction and it should be an absolute celebration.
28:25 I think Sproul talked about in his commentary and I'm just, I don't know, I'm just, I've
28:29 been thinking about it quite a bit.
28:31 This idea that, you know, this delayed sanctification, is it a situation where maybe they've accepted
28:38 the justification part of the gospel, but they have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
28:43 Like, is that can there be a gap there?
28:46 I don't know.
28:47 I think once you've repented and believed you're filled with the Holy Spirit.
28:51 Now that's where I think our free will comes in is do we listen to the Holy Spirit or do
28:55 we listen to the flesh? So that's where, that's where I think that, that, that could play,
29:01 play a part in delayed sanctification.
29:04 It's certainly a choice component because whenever I talked about the concept, the first time
29:07 I talked about public public, publicly was on John Cooper's podcast because I was like,
29:10 I've just been like chewing on this because it's like, I got saved when bought a, you
29:15 know, teen Bible at the Christian bookstore because I knew my parents wouldn't buy me
29:19 one. So I took my own money when bought one and got it and, you know, started in Matthew
29:23 and burned through the New Testament, just blowing my mind and everything's highlighted,
29:26 taking notes to get to Genesis. I was like, all right, cool. And then you get to Exodus.
29:30 I was like, all right, this is a little bit harder than you get bogged down somewhere,
29:33 you know, in the Torah and the Pentateuch. And you're just like, Oh, Lee, and then you
29:36 just kind of stop. And I felt like from that moment, and then fast forward like 20 years.
29:41 Like I was just kind of playing Christian a little bit. And so it wasn't until I took
29:46 it really, really seriously, you know, getting into undaunted life, getting into, you know,
29:51 men's ministry as a, not just calling, but actually my profession, you know, then taking
29:56 it up even another notch with the forging table. And you look back and it's like goodness gracious,
30:01 what a delayed amount of time. But I don't, I don't think that I was without the Holy Spirit
30:05 that I was without direction. It's just I kept making choices on top of choices, which are,
30:10 yeah, I could say the Bible right now, but I'll do this instead. Or yeah, I could seek
30:14 out discipleship in this area, but I'd rather play the sport or just something like that.
30:18 And it just, and again, I didn't have anyone discipling me from the beginning. So it was
30:22 all me, which was fine, because I'm very self-sufficient. And you know, I don't need your
30:26 help. I can do it myself. But with something like this, you know, like had I been raised
30:30 in the boy household and I, you know, make a public profession, like I would have had
30:35 a dad that would have like, Hey, let's, you know, let's start reading together, let's
30:38 start studying together. And like a dad that would be looking for fruit in my life. And
30:41 I had, I had no one looking for fruit. No one offering a corrective word or a word of encouragement.
30:47 It's just like, all right, I guess I'm just going to do this on my own.
30:50 Yeah, I think as I'm looking at it, I mean, just hearing your story there, Kyle, I mean,
30:55 how easy it is to wander away whenever you don't have other saints surrounding you.
31:02 I know for me, it's, you know, all through high school, I had a people who, I mean, I
31:07 was going to church every Wednesday night and every Sunday morning and there was a group
31:11 of us that were around each other and, and, you know, poured into one another. And then
31:16 I went to college and they weren't there. They went to their colleges. And then suddenly
31:21 I'm, you know, the cheese stands alone. And how strong are my beliefs? How strong am I
31:27 in the Holy Spirit? And that fight against the flesh? Who am I spending time with in
31:33 college? And where are they leading me? And it wasn't to a righteous place. I think so
31:42 much of this, as I look back now, I think so much of my journey was shaped just on the
31:48 fact that I really wasn't around a lot of Christian brotherhood. Maybe by my own choices.
31:55 I don't want to bail myself out. It's like it's everybody else's fault. But you know,
31:59 I did not seek out Christian brotherhood when I got to college. And I think that was a big
32:02 reason why I did fall away. I think that's pretty funny that you bring that up. We just
32:05 had somebody over our house talking about Stumo. It's like a student ministry thing
32:10 in colleges. And she was kind of going over like all the colleges that they're in and
32:14 like they're all in the Bible belt. Yeah. And I'm like, Oh man, that's like, that's
32:18 like going shooting fish in a barrel. You know, but like, I think that's something that you
32:23 bring up that we got to realize is that we live in a different time and place like there's
32:26 cultural Christianity everywhere. We're all cultural Christians based upon where we grew
32:30 up or who our parents are. But do we truly walk the walk? Are we truly being discipled?
32:37 We're in a generation where it's just very big seeker movement. And you know, everybody's
32:41 just like trying to just bring in more numbers, but we're not discipling them. And so when
32:44 I was talking to her, I was like, what are you guys doing for discipleship? Because like
32:48 you're in the middle of the Bible belt, which is like kind of easy pickings. But like she's
32:51 like showing us like, here's some people that I worked within the school that I go to at
32:56 the college I go to. And like, they grew up Christians, but they couldn't tell you what
32:59 the gospel was. They couldn't tell you, you know, certain things. And so I think that's
33:03 something that's like really needed now is that we've created all these converts, but
33:07 we never discipled them. And that's what you're seeing here. And like, in acts is like, there's
33:11 disciples, they don't call them disciples. They don't call them leaders. They don't call
33:14 them pastors. Like everybody they talk about is a disciple. They're learning and they're
33:18 helping other people learn. It's pretty amazing.
33:20 Well, and also with you inherently have extra problems, it goes back to my episode last year,
33:25 country music theology towards like, okay, well, I was born and raised in Southwest Oklahoma.
33:31 And then I went to, you know, Christian high school, and then I went to Oklahoma state
33:34 and then I whatever, like I'm just, you know, making up a person here. And so they bought
33:38 in some somewhere along the road, they bought into this idea that, you know, God has grandchildren,
33:43 right? So that because Nana was a Christian, I'm a Christian, or because my parents were
33:47 good Christians, I'm a Christian somehow. And then, you know, hey, I'm not, I'm not so bad.
33:52 I, you know, I haven't had sex with too many girls and I, you know, I don't smoke weed
33:55 anymore as much as I used to, you know, I voted Republican in the last election and I listened
34:00 to Lou Combs and they're like, yeah, so I'm good. So God's going to favor me because God
34:03 is for all of those things. And so I don't want to say just to sound contrary in that
34:08 in a way, Stu Mose got it harder here, but the people here don't think they're depraved
34:13 because they were raised in this Christian milieu, like talking to Matt Chandler about
34:18 doing ministry in the burbs of Dallas, where everyone's perfect. We kind of have that here
34:22 in Edmund, where like all the guys make good money, all the women have at least been augmented
34:29 to look perfect. And then you've got, you know, people that got the perfect cars and
34:32 the perfectly manicured lawns and every, the kids are great and they all go to private
34:36 school and it's all this and all that. So there are people, especially women, they'll
34:39 go to these churches where it's like Mother's Day, they're just slobbered on with how great
34:43 they are and how horrible the men in their lives are. And then they go home and they're
34:46 just like, man, I'm amazing. Like I, I don't do anything wrong. I go to a women's Bible
34:51 study periodically. I listen to Carrie Jobin. So I guess I'm good. And so to a degree proving
34:55 to someone like that, I remember talking to your wife about that. Rachel was talking
34:59 about a particular woman that she was trying to share the gospel with. But like this woman's
35:04 good. Like she takes care of her kids and the house is always clean and, you know, things
35:09 work out really well. She's a good cook and like she's just a good woman. She's not cheating
35:13 on her taxes. She's not cheating on her husband. Like she's, she's a good woman. And so proving
35:17 to her that she's depraved and needs a savior like that in some ways is a harder sell. You
35:23 know what I mean? That's just God opening your eyes. I mean, that's, you know, that's
35:25 why when we talk back about the law, moral laws there to show us that were depraved and
35:29 that God is holy and that's why we need Christ. I think it's funny that you brought up about
35:34 the country music, Christianity and the fact that since grandma was a Christian, that makes
35:39 me a Christian. I mean, we're going right back into that partiality of the Jews or the Jews
35:43 are like, we're the chosen ones. Everybody else around me isn't because this is what God
35:47 is looking for, this cleanliness. And that, and then what God showing you that this isn't
35:52 cleanliness, the moral law is what's cleanliness. You not eating pork. It doesn't make you clean.
35:57 It's just something that was put in ceremonially. And so we've now created a ceremonial law
36:02 on how that we live and how that we do things without looking at our true love, which is
36:07 Christ.
36:08 I will also point out, on the beginning part of this section, you went to uncircumcised
36:15 men and ate with them. Apparently that was a sufficient line of attack for Peter to change
36:20 the way that he operated because you go to Galatians two versus 11 through 14. This is
36:24 what Paul, you know, basically traveled to rebuke him to his face. So to all you Christians
36:28 out there, they're like, we shouldn't recruit our brothers. It's like, all right, well then
36:31 just ignore scripture entirely and you'll be correct. But in this particular segment,
36:36 like, that's what Peter was doing in Galatians. We see that he had basically taken the bait
36:41 from the Judaizers because the circumcision party, they were, you know, trying to say
36:44 to people, no, no, no, yeah, Jesus. Yeah, we're team Jesus, but also you need to get
36:48 circumcised and you need to carry the ceremonial law and you need to basically become a Jew
36:52 in order to become a Christian. And Peter was basically, you know, you know, acquiescing
36:58 to that, that ideology and Paul had to come and rebuke him directly to his face, which
37:02 is so interesting because Peter was on this earth for three years with Jesus and saw the
37:08 resurrected Jesus. Whereas Paul, you know, was Saul, you know, crucifying in a lot of
37:14 ways, the Christians and persecuting them in real murderous ways. And then he's the one
37:18 having to repute the rock and tell the rock like, Hey, bro, like, you can't do that.
37:24 That's exactly. He was, you know, the glass shattered and here comes stone cold. He's
37:31 got the leather vest and all that. So yeah, I mean, that was, that's a very interesting
37:34 thing here to where it's like, Hey, apparently Peter was very susceptible to, to this line
37:38 of attack like, Hey, you went and he was uncircumcised men. Yeah, I mean, you gotta, you gotta understand
37:43 how important this law was to the Jewish people. I mean, you know, God, God was God chose them,
37:52 right? But before the law came into place, the Jewish people thought, well, we were chosen
37:57 because we're Jews. Like that's it. There was no nothing else about it. And it is a form
38:03 of, you know, just lineage. I was born to the right person. Therefore, God loves me and
38:10 I'm chosen. And then God says, Oh yeah, all right, here, take these laws and then keep
38:16 them all. Yeah. And they had to take them so seriously. I mean, you know, when Peter's
38:20 talking about these animals that are now, you go rise, Peter, kill and eat to understand
38:26 how serious this is. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego went to the fiery furnace and Daniel
38:32 went to the lion's den over the diet because the king wanted them to eat certain food and
38:37 they wouldn't do it. So how serious is this law? It's really serious. I'm super serial
38:42 guys. I mean, it's a tradition. I mean, when you come down to it, it's a tradition. And
38:48 like we've, if you grow, I grew up in a very charismatic household. And when I grew up,
38:52 alcohol was wrong. You could not drink alcohol. If I saw my grandfather with a beer, I thought
38:56 the guy was going to hell, you know, and it's because of the traditions that I grew up in.
39:00 And then as I get to learn scripture and get to know things, it's alcohol isn't a sin
39:05 unless you overuse it and use it to get drunk. But you're built on those traditions and those
39:11 traditions that will go back into your head and you have to die to Christ, you know, not
39:16 die to your traditions.
39:17 Well, and so back, you know, in Acts 10 where he goes to Cornelius's house, you know, and
39:23 he's in the midst of all these Gentiles, like Peter's getting revealed, God's plan for man
39:29 is beyond the Jews, right? Like the Gentiles are included in that. But the, you know, his
39:37 bros back in Japa, like they're not, they weren't, they didn't have the vision. They
39:41 weren't at the thing. And they're just kind of hearing about this, like, like they feel
39:45 like they're owed an explanation because of that, right? Like, like the laws are like,
39:51 like, you need, you need to tell us what in the world and why. And so it's almost kind
39:56 of like this whole story, it's like he's going back, right? This is the same story from chapter
39:59 10. And he's coming back and recounting it all. And at the end, you know, it's, it's
40:04 the line of, um, so if God gave them the same gift he gave us, who believed in the Lord
40:10 Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God's way? And I could imagine this
40:14 room full of people being like, yeah, okay. Yeah. Okay. Sounds good. Yeah, absolutely.
40:21 But, but it was a massive mind shift from, you know, and I, and I feel like they felt
40:26 like man, when Peter gets here, he's got some explaining to do. Yeah, I mean, we read it
40:30 and it's like, yeah, it's kind of weird, but not a big deal. But that was like earth shattering
40:34 stuff to hear them go through. That's like if Pentecostal heard that Jesus was going
40:39 or one of the disciples was going and drinking whiskey, you know, that'd be earth shattering
40:43 in the realm that I grew up for poor Pentecostals or missing out on so much fun. All right, Jake,
40:49 if you will take us to the second chunk of Acts 11. So that takes us to the end. That's
40:53 19 through 30. Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over
40:58 Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch speaking the word to no one except
41:04 Jews, but there were some of them men of Cyprus and serene who on coming to Antioch spoke
41:10 to the Hellenist also preaching the Lord Jesus and the hand of the Lord was with them and
41:15 a great number who believe turned to the Lord. The report of this came to the ears of the
41:19 church in Jerusalem and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace
41:24 of God, he was glad and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast
41:30 purpose for he was a good man full of the Holy Spirit and of faith and a great many people
41:35 were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul and when he had found
41:41 him he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a
41:45 great many people and in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians. Now in these
41:51 days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch and one of them named Agabus stood
41:56 up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world. This
42:01 took place in the days of Claudius. So the disciples determined everyone according to
42:06 his ability to send relief to the brothers living in Judea and they did so sending it
42:12 to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul. So there's a lot of firsts here in this section.
42:17 So verse 26 this is the first place that we see recorded that these followers of Jesus
42:23 were called Christians. It was actually a derisive term. It was like oh you know those
42:26 Christ followers, those Christians. And so that's very interesting. Also you see in verse 30 this
42:32 is the first mention explicitly of elders. So these are overseers, pastors, there's some of the
42:38 roles had been hinted in other places and acts. But this was kind of that first time that we see
42:43 that actually explicitly put out there. But I actually want to go back to verse 19. Now those
42:48 who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia
42:52 and Cyprus and Antioch speaking the word to no one except the Jews. The interesting thing about
42:57 this is it was because Stephen was murdered by a mob that these people went outside of their city
43:05 to share this news. Now it says that they shared it with everyone except the Jews or to know when
43:11 except Jews so they didn't share with Gentiles. But that's another thing that we've talked about
43:15 on previous forging tables where it's like if something bad happens to somebody that you think
43:19 is good and you're like well that's just bad. There's no good that can come of it. It's like be
43:23 careful because I'm sure the people at the time that had watched Stephen get stoned to death and
43:27 you know love Stephen or Stephen's buddies or family members are like this is you know a net
43:31 negative thing here. But because that happened God's the gospel of Christ actually started to
43:37 spread around this area. So I think that's important for us perspective wise that when we in our own
43:43 limited judgment say that this couldn't possibly be a good thing. It's like maybe we need to back
43:48 up a step or two. Yeah I know I agree sometimes we just have to let go and let God. Did you?
43:55 We were doing so good. It was such a good episode. And then hey should we be known for what we're
44:00 for and not what we're against? Should we should we you know lean into that too?
44:03 Come on. I was gonna say good. You're gonna say what? I was gonna say great point Kyle. No that's
44:11 fine. That would have been totally sufficient. And there's nothing else that needs to be said
44:16 about that. I said it all. Did I? Home run? I ate a grand slam on this one. I just really took
44:21 it home that when they were they're just speaking to the Jews it says spoke to the Hellenists also.
44:27 So that means like the Greeks were listening. And not only were the Jews coming the Greeks were
44:32 coming to the Gentiles were coming to Christ as well. And the hand of the Lord was with them.
44:36 In particular note the Hellenists were also trying to kill Saul only just a couple of chapters.
44:43 Yeah. So now they're listening.
44:45 Now they're listening. Yeah and I think that was pointed out in one of the commentary. So you get
44:49 to verse 40 or 25. It had been years since Saul had escaped Jerusalem at this point. But we don't
44:55 get any sense that the Hellenists had forgotten their ire towards Saul, you know, probably being
45:01 called Paul at this point. So you know, Barnabas needed help. It was just kind of one of those
45:06 deals. But it had been years between that time until now. All right. Anything else? I'm excellent
45:12 or yeah. I was gonna just say Barnabas. I really like the example of Barnabas here. So his name
45:18 means son of encouragement. And the example here where he's he's here observing this church in Antioch,
45:26 which is at the time the third largest city in the world. It's Rome, then Alexandria, then Antioch.
45:33 And he's seeing this large church gathering. And here's Barnabas who's obviously very,
45:39 very close to the disciples and could have just said, you know what, I'm here. I'm going to take
45:44 on some church leadership here. You know, I know what I'm doing. And he doesn't do that. His
45:52 first reaction is number one, he's glad for all of them, which, you know, going into the 10th
45:58 commandment, you know, just this idea that we should not be covetousness of other people's success,
46:03 even, you know, these are people who are finding great joy in the Lord and and can he's just observing
46:10 and happy for them, genuinely happy. And his reaction to all of it is, all right, I'm going to go get
46:17 Saul. I'm going to go get him because this is the man who needs to actually preach into these
46:23 people. I am not that person. The idea that you can actually be that self aware of your own gifts
46:28 and what you should be doing and what you should not be doing. I think Barnabas, that's a pretty
46:33 great example here. I agree. I second. Do we have consent? Yeah, I consent has been reached.
46:40 Go ahead, Dagan. Well, you know, just just in like how Jake was saying, you know, being an active
46:47 recruiter, you know, it's it's not about what I'm going to show up and what what do I have to do?
46:53 What do I have to say? It's identifying, replicating, raising up, discipling, you know, and Barnabas
47:00 seeking out Saul to do that right and spending some time with him and, you know, you know,
47:04 making him into more of a leader. You know, I don't think we do that enough as Christians. I think we
47:09 come in and we come in with our own knowledge and our own thoughts and our own ideas and we
47:14 don't we I personally don't do a really good job of, you know, of being intentional about raising
47:20 people up. And I think there are a lot of people on the sideline that would love to be called in
47:26 to the field, right? And they're just waiting. They're just waiting. They're not going to take
47:30 the initiative themselves. They want to have a little bit of confidence of the Barnabas saying,
47:35 man, you got what it takes you. I need you. I need you to come help me. You can do this. And
47:41 and I'm going to work with you and equip you. And but but you've got it. And and too many people
47:45 are waiting. But also the people that are in the game seem too reluctant to pull in from the side.
47:52 Yeah, I would agree with that. I will even go back to a comment I made earlier about when I became
47:55 a Christian, like nobody nobody offered like, Hey, knucklehead, like you got some you got some good
48:02 qualities. But come over here. You're kind of you're kind of chimping as well. Like you're kind of
48:07 knuckle dragging a little bit because I would have been all over it because I'm a lean forward
48:11 doer. Like I want to be pat on the head and told I, you know, I'm doing a good job and all those
48:15 types of things. And I want to make sure that I'm hitting the mark. And so some people don't know
48:19 what they don't know. So they don't know. I need to seek out a disciple. I need somebody with gray
48:22 hair to tell me what's up. And you know, kind of like lead me along this path. But I think you're
48:27 right. We are rarely looking for opportunities to find someone to disciple because it's like generic
48:31 good business advice is everyone should have a mentor and a mentee. Right. So you have someone
48:37 that's pouring into you. And you have someone that you are pouring into now, depending upon where you
48:42 are. And you know, you maybe you're in the sage stage. So there's no one that's, you know, around
48:46 to mentor you anymore. So you're you're maybe mentoring people several levels down. Maybe
48:51 you're just starting your career. So there's not a whole lot of people that would maybe be able to
48:55 benefit necessarily from you. But you know, there's at least somebody. So you're 19, you're a freshman
49:00 in college. You're kind of a knucklehead. Well, you could probably mentor a 14 15 year old,
49:04 that type of a thing. But then there's going to be multiple levels of mentors above you.
49:08 And I think you're right. And I don't think that we we take that seriously. And if if we did,
49:13 we wouldn't have that problem with discipleship that we were talking about earlier was crazy as
49:17 I was a discipled at 34 by a 28 year old. Okay. It wasn't even like an elder or anything like that.
49:23 It was a 28 year old guy that I was in a group with. And I started asking these certain questions
49:28 because I didn't understand them. And he just poured into me. And it always makes me laugh.
49:32 He was like, I was like 34, 33, 34. And yeah, this guy was like 28.
49:36 Well, thanks you back some good advice. I heard it's not how many years you've been a Christian,
49:40 it's how many hours. Yeah. And so like someone may be younger than you, but they put in more hours,
49:45 or maybe the wisdom is also a gift. Yeah, wisdom is a gift. And this guy had a lot of wisdom. And
49:49 like he probably asked the same questions I asked and really studied them. And I mean,
49:54 he was just on point, but yeah, his name was Andrew. Really great guy. It's awesome.
49:58 Shout out to Andrew guys. Is there anything else on acts 11 before we close it up?
