This is Undaunted Life, a Man's Podcast.
1:24
I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.
1:27
As I live and breathe, is that Mark Wayne Mullen right there?
1:31
Mark Wayne.
1:32
I've been getting a lot of emails from concerned fans wondering what in the world, what happened between you and I.
1:39
What was the following out? You haven't been here in a while.
1:41
Well, you know, when you made it real awkward that time you put your hand on my leg,
1:45
I was like, maybe we should have a little distance between us.
1:47
No, no, no, no, no, but like you got to give the rest of the story.
1:50
I was shooting a double leg takedown. You see, so I was shooting the double leg takedowns different.
1:55
But you didn't finish the shot. You stopped and the shot and that's just weird.
1:59
I mean, it got to me and pivoted and I just like, you know, that's just weird.
2:04
I didn't. I didn't. I thought it was. I took it to like your fort with me and I get it, right?
2:09
I mean, you got a man crush on me. Anyways, no, no, no, no. This is what it was.
2:12
Do you know how like whenever, uh, what is it? Vladimir Putin like plays hockey and like he suddenly scores
2:18
like eight or nine goals. He's like the greatest hockey player ever.
2:20
It was kind of like one of those things. Like I didn't want to take you down in front of your friends.
2:23
I didn't want it to be awkward. So it was more so out of respect, you know, I mean,
2:26
within why was it when you shot in me, shot on me, you started, you started rubbing my, my, my glutes back and forth.
2:33
That's what I was taught to do. That's what I was taught. You rub the glutes.
2:36
They fall right over. Come on. Everyone knows that. That's like, that's what you get taught in like juniors.
2:42
No, I taught my kids to turn the corner, uh, but you know, but whatever. I mean, maybe your coach was
2:47
different. You know, you should see a therapist about that. You know what? Uh, let's just turn
2:51
the corner on this conversation because we don't have very long because you got like this very
2:54
important job or whatever. But let's stay in the world of wrestling because I got to tell you,
2:58
we got to go back to the national finals. Okay. So there you are. You're sitting, uh, front row.
3:03
You're there with Donald J. Trump who wanted to be there. And so he gets there. He gets the big
3:08
introduction and all that. And he was supposed to be whisked away before the last match. But he
3:12
sticks around for the heavyweight final. I mean, the great and mighty Gable, Stevenson, you know,
3:18
Olympic champion gets taken down by an OSU cowboy wide Hendrickson and Trump's right there in the
3:23
front row, gives him a nice big salute. Why it gets off stage gives him a handshake, gives you a big
3:28
hug and all the different things. Just tell me about what that was like because for me, I'm sitting
3:32
on the back porch. Like I stood up so fast, Mark Wayne, both of my crocs flew off and I pulled a,
3:38
you know, stomach muscle whenever he like finished the takedown. And I'm like sitting there like,
3:42
Oh, 13, 12, 11. And I'm just like, okay, Gable's definitely going to get up. He's definitely going
3:46
to get up. This is going to OT. And then he just tilted him over and put him back down. Just tell me
3:50
about how all that was. So backstory, you got to go back all the way to 2023 to when President Trump
3:56
came to Tulsa with me to the national finals and why it took third at the national finals. And I've
4:02
known Wyatt for a while. I've known of him and his family just because you know, I coached so many
4:08
of the national teams, Oklahoma national teams, when with my boys, when all my boys were on it
4:14
through throughout the years, I mean, when they were little to middle school. Well, Wyatt was three
4:20
years older or his three years older than the boys. And he would be on the Kansas national teams.
4:24
And I mean, he's always been a bigger than life human being, but everybody's loved him. I mean,
4:27
he was just, he was at heavyweight, the wrestle on everybody on the on Kansas team that everybody
4:33
wanted to pick up because I mean, he was just, he was just stud. So 2023, he gets third. I
4:41
recognize him. I'm with the president and we're sitting at the B. Okay. He comes up, he says,
4:46
Hey, can I say, can I say hi to the president? I was like, yeah, I said, Mr. President. I said,
4:50
this is Wyatt Henderson. He's he's he's wrestles for the Air Force Academy. He could third.
4:56
He wanted to say hi. And the first thing he did, he said, sir, I got it. I got a question to ask
5:00
you. And the president goes, yeah, what is it? He goes, I need a waiver because they say that I
5:05
can't fly fighter jets. And he's looked at that looked at even when he looked at me and he said,
5:08
son, they don't make cockpits that big. So it's so that the so there's a little bit of connection
5:15
there now fast forward to 2024. President was supposed to leave right after the right after
5:22
actually won what is it? 185 187? What is it? Anyways, he was supposed to leave. And he, his team
5:30
came to him and he looked at me and he says, Hey, can my big guy win? And he was talking to Wyatt
5:35
about Wyatt. And I said, I said, I think he can. He goes, he knew who Gabriel Stevenson was. He said,
5:41
Olympic champion, two time national champion, you really think Wyatt has a as a chance to win. I said,
5:46
sir, I think Wyatt is a little more hungry than then gave it gave all his points. I said,
5:54
I think he can. I said both of them are undefeated. And this is this is the match. And he looked at
6:01
his team, he said, we're staying because they wanted to get him out before the crowd, right?
6:05
Right. They want him to disrupt the crowd. So when the match started, I mean, we were all very
6:11
anticipating it. I mean, we were, we were excited about it. And then Wyatt, when Wyatt took him down,
6:16
even the present got excited. I mean, we all got excited, right? But it was interesting,
6:21
just observation, you and I wrestlers, all of our wrestling fans, it was interesting because all
6:26
of us expected Gabe to just stand right back up, pop up, right? Right. I think Gabe thought he was
6:31
down by two, not down by one. He definitely froze. It was when he stepped there. And it was,
6:37
you know, Gabe's too good of a wrestler to be shell shocked. He's a reaction. He reacts just
6:42
like everybody else. He's a reaction. The reason why I had never been taken down is because
6:46
the guy reacts quick. He's, he's been, it's not that he hasn't been close to being taken down.
6:52
But so I assumed that he had, that he probably thought he was down by two because if you look,
6:57
I don't know if the TV showed it. I was looking at his corner and his corner was sitting there
7:01
like this. You're down by one. You're down by one. You're down by one. As soon as he said he was
7:05
down by one, Gabe stood up. So at worst talking to Wyatt because Wyatt lived with my boys when he
7:11
first came to Stillwater because, you know, I got two boys at wrestle, wrestle and I'll come say team
7:15
too. And Wyatt, it was unique because there hadn't been an, there hadn't been anybody out of the
7:22
Academy that's asked for their fifth year senior. So the fifth year senior, the Academy's never
7:28
dealt with for COVID. And so why is the first one to ask it? There is no orders for that.
7:33
So we had to work with, truly work with the Secretary of Air Force to draw up orders that
7:38
have never been drawed up before to allow Wyatt to build a wrestle for Oklahoma State in the WCAP
7:43
program. And then we had to get Oklahoma State qualified to be a WCAP program, which is a world
7:49
athlete program. At the same time, Wyatt had to, had to sign up for a master's program so he can
7:54
get his master's while he's wrestling there for the next four years. So his orders are to wrestle
7:58
for Oklahoma State working towards the world athlete program, which he just won, you know,
8:05
US Open this weekend and that he, he, and then he's got to get his master's while he's there.
8:11
So I was talking to Wyatt afterwards and I said, Wyatt, I said, what, what, what, what
8:15
went through your head after you took him down? He says, I knew I could take him, I knew I could
8:18
take him down. I knew I could take him down. I knew if I ever got hold of that leg, I could pull
8:22
it into me and pull and pull and pull and pull and pull and around the corner, which he's done that
8:26
move a hundred times throughout the year. And I said, what'd you think when he took him down? He
8:32
says, my arms never felt so strong in my life. There was no way Gable was getting out of him.
8:38
No way. He said, no way. He said, you had had to literally tear my arms off for my
8:43
children's youth. I've never squeezed a human being so much in my life. So maybe it was a squeeze
8:49
and he felt how strong Wyatt was that made him freeze. Who knows? But, but I asked him, I said,
8:56
what did, what did Gable say to you when you walked on the mat? Now, what a lot of people don't know
9:02
about Wyatt is why it's a strong Christian man, very strong Christian man. And he says, you know,
9:07
he says, I don't know. He says, maybe the Lord just, you know, shut my ears. His words was maybe the
9:13
Holy Spirit shut my ears because I didn't hear anything. He said, he said, I remember him saying
9:19
something, but I don't not even sure I would have remembered it. People didn't ask me immediately
9:22
what he said. He said, but I think he said something to the fact that I'm the Olympic champion,
9:30
you're not worthy to wear the flag. He says, and I think he, he said, but I don't know,
9:33
he said that. He says, that's what I think I heard. He said, but I didn't even think about it until
9:38
people asked me. He says, and it's a good, good thing that I didn't. He says, because that probably
9:42
would have got onto my skin. I mean, here, you know, he's a second attempt, right? Right. But,
9:48
I also know Gable. I don't know if Gable would have said that either. And that's what I told Wyatt.
9:53
I said, I don't know if Gable, Gable is, I mean, he's for show, but he's also a heck of an athlete
9:59
with a tremendous amount of respect. And you saw the way he handled himself after the match,
10:03
you saw the way he handled it on the podium, he saw the way he treated the president.
10:06
I don't think Gable would have said that unless it was trying to get underneath his head,
10:11
but not actually meaning it. And Wyatt said the same thing. Wyatt says, I don't know if he actually
10:15
said that. He says, maybe he said, I'm just trying to replay. And he said, I'm telling you Mark Wayne,
10:18
I think the Holy Spirit shut my ears because I actually do not know what he said.
10:22
When you could see as they have that slight interaction, it was almost like Wyatt was,
10:26
he was so in the zone as he was walking. It was almost like who's talking to me? Like he knew
10:30
it was Gable and all that. But, you know, you've got the smoke and the big entrance and all those
10:34
types of things. But yeah, on that. So obviously, Gable not been taken down all year, a limbic
10:40
champion, the whole thing, whenever it's Gable, I don't believe it ever been taken down.
10:44
It's definitely not this year for sure. But I didn't think he'd ever been taken down.
10:49
And it's clear. When I was thinking like, okay, he's been training with Gordon Ryan,
10:52
the greatest Jiu-Jitsu fighter of all time. I'm going to have my team. Can we Google that?
10:56
Gable suits. Let's get alive. But like, he's been training with Gordon Ryan,
11:01
best Jiu-Jitsu fighter of all time, John Jones, best MMA fighter of all time, even though he's
11:05
juiced. Like, and I'm wondering, have those guys taken him down? And so he gets the takedown.
11:10
But then when he stands up, I immediately think, certainly he's not going to be tilted back over.
11:15
And that's precisely what happened. Gable tried to like, turn around and like, face him. And he
11:20
literally just got folded. And I'm like, holy, holy cow, like, I can't believe he just got
11:24
folded. And he had those precious few seconds there, where he kind of was like, kind of stuck,
11:29
like figuring out what am I going to do. And then, you know, stood up and they just didn't
11:32
quite work out for him. So I appreciate you giving us the behind the scenes look on that.
11:35
Hopefully your team will get the information in the next six minutes because you got a hard out.
11:39
So I want to ask you kind of like a flyover question. Wait, did they got the answer?
11:42
Has he ever been taken down? First time, first time I've been taken down and pleaded history
11:46
with Wyatt. That's what they man. Man, absolutely amazing. Wyatt Hendrickson. Superstar. We'd love
11:52
to get him on the show. We'll see if we can work that out. Well, we might be able to connect you
11:55
too. But you know, he, everybody's been saying this is the greatest upset in CIA history. I will,
12:02
I will respectfully disagree. 1970, Dan Gable, when he lost his last match in the national finals.
12:09
I believe that is a greatest history. And what people say about, well, the reason why it was,
12:15
you know, the greatest upset was because, you know, a two time national champion,
12:20
Olympic champion. I was like, well, but do you not know Dan Gables? I mean, who he is,
12:30
and to lose his last match and be undefeated his entire wrestling career, that's the biggest
12:36
upset. Now the biggest upset in my lifetime is Wyatt and Gable Stevenson. But the biggest,
12:42
I think the biggest upset in the NCAA history is if a wrestling was Dan Gables loss.
12:47

15:04
That's mountain tough.com promo code Kyle. Well, certainly I know we got a lot of 2025 left to go.
15:11
That's the sports moment of 2025. I don't care if there's a walk off in the world series or you
15:16
know, some of that's going to happen in college football. That's the moment of the year in sports
15:20
for me. But in our last five minutes here, there's a lot that's been made about Trump's first 100
15:24
days. And so this is going to be coming out, you know, 120 ish days or whatever into the Trump
15:29
administration. The second Trump administration, there's been a lot of executive orders, a stunning
15:34
shocking amount of executive orders. A lot of headlines have been made about the executive orders.
15:39
But as with the executive orders that Biden made, if it doesn't turn into legislation,
15:44
then it doesn't ultimately matter matters for a short period of time. And then if somebody else
15:48
gets into the office that's wearing a blue tie, boom, all the executive orders go out the window.
15:53
And so it seems like, okay, now it's time for Congress to solidify some of these executive
15:57
orders, some of the more important ones and get some legislation behind them. So as a sitting
16:02
United States senator with a lot of connections still back to your old job in the house,
16:06
what is the likelihood that in short order, or maybe if we can look at 2025 that we'll start
16:11
to see some legislation solidify some of the things we see coming out of the executive orders?
16:15
We've already solidified actually a lot of them. Believe it or not, it just isn't big fanfare.
16:19
Keep in mind the president has signed just over 140 executive orders. Well, over half of those
16:24
was reversing Biden's executive orders that overturned Trump's executive orders from when he
16:32
came into office in 2017. So there's really only about, I don't know the exact number,
16:39
I'm using rough numbers here, but I think when I looked at it, it was under 70 executive orders
16:44
are actually new executive orders. These aren't meaning that these things have already been in
16:48
place before. If you do the math on that, and you realize that these are new, these are that half
16:55
of them over half of them were previous executive orders that Biden overturned and that he overturned.
17:00
So they've already been put in place. And then then you put in the fact that under 70 of them
17:04
are new executive orders, if you do the math on this, I just want to that that is below
17:09
the new executive orders are actually below what Biden did when he was in his first 100 days.
17:15
To just to just get some numbers on this, injunctions where the court has stepped in
17:21
underneath Biden or underneath Obama in eight years of office and a lot more than 140 executive
17:29
orders, the court stepped in 12 times and put in injunctions. Biden the in four years,
17:36
while he was in office, they only stepped in 14 times. And he signed a lot more than 140
17:44
executive orders over four years. Trump in his first four years, the court stepped in 64 times
17:51
are ready this year. In the first 100 days, the court has got put in 15 injunctions against
17:57
the president. Now, actually, I think that number just went to 16. And and so the why we're doing
18:04
this, we're having to codify these in legislation because we're literally fighting a weaponized
18:10
court at this point against President Trump. And numbers speak for themselves. People can say
18:14
whatever they want. But there's no question that the court is weaponized against President Trump.
18:20
I don't care. I don't care what you say. They they they they have stepped in
18:26
taking it upon themselves and stepped in and put in junctions. And it's the numbers aren't
18:29
incomparable at the percentage of the executive orders versus the comparable to the injunctions.
18:34
And people want to say, well, but you know, that that's different because the executive orders
18:41
underneath Biden and underneath Obama wasn't legislating from the White House. I beg to differ.
18:50
Sure. Obama actually coined the phrase, I call up on Congress to act. If not, I got a pen and piece
18:59
of paper. So don't tell me that Obama wasn't legislating from the White House. And and so
19:06
when we look forward to how we're going to fix it, we can we can do a lot of it through reconciliation.
19:12
We can do a lot of it through FY26 appropriation bills. And we can do a lot of it through rescission.
19:18
And the rescission packages are just now starting to come to Congress. And what rescission packages
19:24
are is basically funding that Congress didn't directly fund a program. The president can look
19:29
at it and send it to Congress and say, we're not going to just defund it. We are now going to say
19:36
we're defunding it. Plus, we're going to make it unlawful for another agency or another administration
19:41
to come and fund it through an executive order. It means it would have to be passed in law to overturn
19:45
it again. So rescission, a lot of its stuff is going to be taking place. But we're codifying stuff
19:50
almost every day. And for instance, the CRAs, the Congressional Review Act, which you're going to
19:56
be hearing a lot about the next two weeks, it gives us a 60 day look back. And the 60 day look back
20:02
isn't calendar 60 days is 60 days that the House and Senate are both in session. Okay, so that it's
20:08
not 60 calendar days is when both House and the Senate are in session. That timeframe actually
20:16
runs out next week at the end of next week. So we only have two more weeks to do a see our
20:22
Congressional Review Act looks back at the rules and executive orders that the president, the
20:27
outgoing administration put in place. And so we are we are the CRAs, everyone of the CRAs we pass,
20:35
and you go back and look at how many we passed. You'll notice that the president has had executive
20:39
orders to overturn a lot of this rule anyways, but we're codifying it through the CRA saying
20:43
that it's unlawful for the for the agency, whatever it is, to build a go back and even
20:50
reinstate it through a rule. It would take legislation again to bring it back in place.
20:54
Okay, well, I appreciate you giving us an update on that. You're one minute past your hard
20:58
out. So I'm gonna let you get out of here. Anything else for our audience? Will we let you bounce?
21:02
No, just know that you can't take me down ever. You see the can't thing. I mean, are we even in
21:09
the same way, class? I mean, you're a little small last time I saw you. Ouch. It doesn't matter if
21:15
you wrestle at Wyatt's weight, and I wrestled at at 133, you still couldn't take me down.
21:21
Mark Wayne, how much how much you wait right now? How much were you running? Just how much
21:24
what are you waiting? Yesterday morning, I weighed 185 one to 85.2. We're in the exact same weight
21:30
class. And I just got to tell you, I feel like we need to figure this out. I feel like we just need
21:35
to get him out and figure out 47. And I'm not old enough that you think you can possibly take me
21:40
down. It's just I won't even and I'll do a jujitsu style. I won't even wear shoes. So I don't even
21:44
