This is Undaunted Life, a man's podcast. I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it. Katie Hears, welcome to Undaunted Life, a man's podcast. How are you? I'm great. Thank you for having me. I am uh thrilled to talk to you today because one thing that we always try to do during Dominion season, again guys, undaunted.life/dominion or front slash, whichever slash, undaunted.life/dominion, is we started to ask uh for the wives of some of the Dominion guys to come on here to kind of give their perspectives as to kind of how they felt about the program even before it started, as it started, you know, since they've been in the alumni. So, we're going to get into all that kind of stuff. Uh but you are the lovely bride of Bryce Hears, who is a team one guy, okay? So, Dominion team one, there can only ever be one team one. But just give us a little uh quick rundown before before we go. I won't make you say your age or anything like that, but where do you live? Uh what do you and the fam What's the family business? How many kiddos you got? Okay. So, we live in Scottsdale, Arizona. And the family business is Bryce's a constr- He's in uh construction and property management. So, builds and develops apartment communities. Um we have three kids, uh seven, five, and two. And my job is to homeschool them. All right. Very good. That can be a hard job in and of itself. We obviously know that, but I'm curious for you. I know that that Bryce has been He's one of the earliest uh supporters of Undaunted Life. He's listened to maybe every episode of the podcast. I mean, he has our first T-shirt we ever released, first first hat, and all that. So, he's been he's been on it for a long time, but when did you become aware of Undaunted Life and the fact that your your husband was such a big fan of what we're trying to do over here? Yeah, I think it was about seven years ago. Is that how long you've been doing this? About seven years? Podcast started, believe it or not, uh in 2017. So, we're in year nine of the podcast, year 10 of the ministry. Okay. Yeah, so probably from the beginning. I mean, he talks to me about all kinds of stuff. Um and I'm into whatever he's into. So, yeah, he just started listening and I guess we would chat about it and talk and he really admired everything you were doing. Um we were talking offline about this about how you kind of gave him um inspiration to pursue those things that he didn't grow up doing. Jiu-jitsu, getting into hunting, guns and things like that. So, I would say that your podcast really helped kind of help him um pursue those aspirations. Yeah, and I would say for us though, that's [clears throat] one thing you people love to lament, "Oh, well, my dad wasn't around." Or, "Hey, my dad didn't teach me this." Or, "I was always interested in that and never had the opportunity." It's like, "Okay, well, you're an adult and you have money." Like, so I mean, some more than others, some less than others, but you have money, so go and pursue that stuff. Like, so why does it matter? And so, let's let's go all the way back to I sent an email to a small group of people about a program that had a name and that was about it. I knew it was going to be some sort of a group coaching, discipleship, some form some form of fashion. And I was like, "I just got to send an email out to see if anybody would even respond to it." And the email said nothing. Essentially nothing. And then I'm like, "If you're interested to hear more about nothing, go ahead and email me back." Well, your husband was one of a I don't know, a few dozen guys or something like that that emailed me back. Now, I was like, "Well, shoot. Talk to these guys about what the something is." And so, I kind of like figured out a little bit more about what I wanted it to look like and you know, get it 80, 85% of the way there. And then I just started, you know, interviewing these guys and inviting them to be a part of a program. And the joke is that didn't exist yet, right? There can only be one team one because there wasn't a thing yet. There [clears throat] wasn't like a bunch of curriculum and a bunch of like standard uh operating procedures or anything like that. It was about as nebulous as it could be, but I just knew that it needed to happen. And as I've told the story before, I kept running into guys like Bryce. Like, "Dude, I've listened to hundreds of episodes of the show. Like, I've I've heard you speak. I've I've got the merch. Like, I'm bought in. But, what about me? What about What about me in Arizona? What about What about my family? Like, what about my congregation? Like, how can I be equipped spiritually, mentally, and physically to push back darkness here?" It's like, "Okay, well, we need to get into the weeds with some of these guys." And so, I'm just curious for you, at what point did you know that he had started talking about this dominion thing? It was somehow attached to me and Undaunted. Uh you know, it's never been done before, but you know, here it is. There's, you know, a good investment of time, effort, and money that needs to go into being a part of this thing. When did you become aware about all this nonsense? >> [gasps] >> Um I became aware probably when you sent the email out because he was excited. I mean, he didn't quite know what it was, just like what you said, but he was excited, and I could really see that. So, um I became aware of it then. Bryce is a man of like very few words. So, it's not like he gave me this really descriptive, you know, uh summary of what it was going to be, but, you know, Bryce doesn't come to me with a lot of things. Like, he's not like, "Oh, hey, can I go get a new pair of sunglasses?" So, when he asked me for something or we kind of bounced ideas off of each other, it's things he's passionate about. Um and so, yeah, he just told me that he would be interested in doing it and essentially sold it as the idea of like it would help me be a better father, a better leader, push back darkness, and be a better husband. And like, how could I say no? That would be crazy, right? And uh a Bible verse that comes to mind is "For where your treasure is, your heart will be also." And yes, it was a financial commitment, but my husband is the financial provider of our home, and he makes sure that everything is taken care of. So, it's something that we could do, he was going to make sure that we he could do it. So. Well, Katie, I'm curious cuz even from your perspective, you know, he says, "Hey, this will help me be better father, leader, husband. I'm going to be equipped to push back darkness." But here's how a lot of women react because at this point, you know, we just we're wrapping up team 6, 7, and 8, and we're going into teams 9 and beyond. Again, guys, we're taking the applications now. undaunted.life/dominion. Put your applications in. Interviews are in early June. But people have asked me before, you know, people that are interested in what we're doing here and what we're building. They're like, "So, why do why do guys say yes?" And I kind of tell them some of the reasons. I'm like, "Well, why do guys say no?" And I'm like, some guys it's just not a fit. It's bad timing. Some of them guys just know they're not going to put in the effort. Some guys don't want to try to figure out the financial piece. But a big thing is wives. Wives are a big reason. They're scared of their wives. They're scared of their wives' emotions. They don't want to ask for something. They don't want to say, "Hey, this is the ticket to the thing we've both been wanting. You've wanted me to be better. I want to be better in these areas." And a lot of guys have never invested in themselves, time, effort, nor capital. They've never really invested. But part of it is you've got guys that are lean-forward guys. They mean it. They're going to put in the time and the effort. Like the capital is available. It's not going to crush you. And then the wife just kind of goes, "I still don't think it's a good idea. Or just not right now. Things are really busy." Or just some sort of man. Like man. And so they just poo-poo on the whole thing. And the guy, you know, not to be crass, but since the guy wants to have intimacy with his wife at some point, hopefully in the near future, he's not going to push it, right? Or you'll have the the catty woman that's like, "Well, if you get to spend this kind of money, I guess I get to spend this kind of money. Is that how this works? Oh, because you work for a living, you get You see what I'm saying? And again, this is Undaunted Life, a man's podcast. You're talking to a 95% male audience, but you're one of our five-percenters, one of our our killer ladies that listen to this. [clears throat] But like why was your perspective so different, do you think, to where it's just like it didn't sound like you you gave him a whole lot of pushback. I know. I want to say that I'm just a rational woman, Kyle. I know that's a oxymoron. >> [clears throat] >> But um I I just trust in my husband. I mean, he is a good godly man and like the Bible says I'm submissive to him and he wanted to do this. So again, how can I tell him that no to something that he wants, especially when it it uh it will make him a better father, a better husband. And I've seen the fruits of that. So I can sit here and say that might be the case for you temporarily. This might be a a hard thing to grasp, but it is paid off tenfold and I'm just so grateful that my husband ended up doing this. It's truly influenced so many areas of our lives. I mean, my husband reads his Bible every single day. He prays over me, which he said is something that you told him to do. He prays over our children. He is patient. He is kind. He is loving. He has all the fruits of the spirit. And now he's leading men's ministries. He's leading a group at our church. And I just I understand the hesitation, especially if the finances are not there. But again, [clears throat] um in modern world we're told told it's a luxury to invest into your faith. And it's not a luxury. It's a necessity because if you don't invest in your faith, you become stagnant and lukewarm and you have a bunch of soft men and we don't need that, you know? And Dominion is really I I mean, I met some of the men who at at the meetup and oh my gosh. That was I've done a lot of cool things in 2025. I think that was one of the coolest things. It's getting to see all these men get together in a room. They're good. They're godly. They're masculine and they're just eager to serve. And I thought that was so cool. Well, I'll talk a little bit more about that, but going back to the fruits of the spirit. So it's like, okay, love, joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness self-control. Those things, if you try to work on each one of those things individually, it's man, it's going to be tough. But, what I would tell guys to do is like, spend more time in the word and then actually do what it says. And that stuff's just going to start pouring out of you. It's It's like you're not going to be able to stop it, you know what I mean? And for all of us, there's going to be someone on that list that's going to hurt a little bit that doesn't come as naturally to us that's going to really trip us up. And that's fine. That's just something that you give extra attention to. But, yes, one of one of the cool things about this program is I've been able to meet some of the Dominion wives and, you know, hear from them and some of the audience members have heard from those people. If you actually go to undaunted.live/dominionwife, you'll be able to, you know, see all the different messages. There's a message from Undaunted Wife, my wife, on there as well. Um but, the the thing about it is is I've never been able to hear, so I'm curious your answer. Cuz it's normally just guys hanging out, right? So, we did the meet-up in Jacksonville, but a lot of meet-ups are here in Oklahoma where guys get to, you know, they train with me, uh we break bread, we have a lot of fun, and they get to meet my foxhole guys, guys that I train with, guys in my Sunday school, guys that are very forging table guys. They're all there. And so, it's just like a sausage fest the entire time. There ain't no ladies around to ruin the vibe, you know what I mean? But, like you you were there and it was great. You got to sit in as we were doing uh some training down there at 10th Planet in Jacksonville. And there were other little meet-up things, and so, I'm just curious from your perspective. You could just go a little bit further from what you said about what you observed. Yeah, I mean, um I got the privilege of sitting at lunch with a bunch of you guys. And I was telling Bryce it was so cool to get to talk to some of the men. Um James, for example, who I believe is team one. Um he had a son there, his grown adult son. And to just see like a man have a ideal relationship with his grown son was so cool. I mean, they had such a mutual respect and love for each other. and then you had I believe his name was Steven, and he had like three young children with him and I got to talk to him about homeschooling. And just all these men like Justin and Josh, they all come from different walks of life and typically Bryce would probably never connect with. However, due to Team One, they all got to bond and unite and they really influenced a lot of our life. I mean, homeschooling for example, when God put that on my heart, I brought it to Bryce and he was said, "I'm not quite sure about that." And then he joined Dominion and I guess seven of the men home school their children and it's just funny how God has a way of putting people around you if you invest the time and the effort and he will speak to you and now we're home schooling our children and for that I'm so grateful. Um but yeah, I mean, it's just incredible men I got to meet and they're all so intentional. And it feels as though you're not going to get those men who kind of slip through the cracks with a program like this and perhaps you will, I'm not sure. But you know, they're all eager to in your words push back darkness and I thought that was so cool. Just to see men be masculine men and thrive in that. Well, the eagerness is a feature not a bug because the thing is if you're not eager to push back darkness, I don't want you on the team to be honest. Like again, [clears throat] as as we've evolved and as we've changed and improved the program, I've tried to make it harder for guys to get in, honestly. So, got to put in an application. Slappies and losers aren't going to take the time to do that. You know, and then it's like, okay, now we actually require something if you're going to set an interview because the interviews are with me. We experiment with a few a few different ways of doing that to maximize my time but no, you're going to hear about the program directly from me. And then you're going to get an invitation and like I've told people, your answer tomorrow is going to be the same as the answer in a week and look, we got a whole bunch of people that want in that didn't get in cuz they couldn't even get an interview slot. And so it's like, no, you don't get weeks to think this over whenever you already kind of know what your answer is right now, but it all comes down to do you actually mean it? Because what I repeat to everybody is like, "Look, I'm not a cheerleader and I'm not a babysitter. So, if you're not going to take this seriously, if you're not going to put in the effort, if you're not going to actually throw down, if you're not going to do what you said you wanted to do." You got into this program, you know, you wanted in for these reasons cuz here are the things that you wanted to sharpen, here's the skills that you wanted to create, whatever the thing is. It's like, "Okay, prove it." And if you don't, I'm not going to yell at you. You're an adult. Like, you don't have to answer to me, right?" >> Mhm. But if you do dedicate yourself to the program, I'm going to hold your feet to the fire and keep the expectation and the standard very, very high. Cuz if I set the expectation and standard way down here, yeah, more people would get in and it would be way less worth it for everybody, including myself. But you mentioned earlier, Katie, the the fruit that you've seen from your husband and you were you ran down a really quick list, but again, he's been with me as long as anybody's been with me, right? And he's continued to do uh some one-on-one coaching with me since he's been in the program. He's in our Watchman program, which is for all of our Dominion alumni. He's very involved in that. We're making a lot of changes and and Bryce is going to be integral to all those changes. But even more specifically, even if you have some stories about the fruit of what you've seen since he since he joined team one. Yeah, I mean, one thing I can say, Bryce has always been always uh I hype my husband up. I love him to death. He's always been such a good, godly man. Um but I felt like he almost lacked a confidence to lead. And so, going through Dominion and being around these other men and going through your program, I felt like it gave him a confidence to lead. And so, now he's out there and he's leading a table at our church. And I don't think he would have done that a few years ago. I just don't think he had that like he almost had imposter syndrome. So, the program really did give him confidence. And so, now he's just very passionate about getting men together and pursuing the kingdom of Christ. Um, and day in and day out, every time I wake up, that man is reading his Bible, and before we go to sleep, he is reading his Bible. He is constantly pursuing the Lord, and I wouldn't say that that was lacking prior, but it is tenfold now. I mean, it is really, really incredible. And so, I mean, his personality, he's always been patient, loving, kind, and all those things, but man, he just he really does embody fruits of the all the fruits of the spirits. Um, incredible. Well, on the confidence side of things, I remember one of the very first bits of advice I gave him. Uh, was he cuz I could tell we were on a call and he was kind of chomping at the bit to get a question in. And he just wouldn't do it. And if I notice something, I just I see something, I say something. It's just in my personality. It's a quirk, I guess. Um, but I was just like, well, yeah, hey, next time you just you're the first question. So, just just do that. He's like, well, what do you mean? I'm like, I don't know another way to explain it. And so, I don't have a whiteboard where I can draw it out for you, either. But next time, we're going to start our question and answer period, and you're just going to be first. That's just what's going to happen. So, whatever thing you need to do cuz look, he was a collegiate athlete. He's still, you know, staying athletic even into his ripe old age that he is now. What is he? 24 [clears throat] years old or whatever. Uh, that young'un. But the thing about it is is he understands what it's like to prepare for a moment, right? Because I think he was a he was tailback. He also played a little bit of defense. It's like, okay, you prepare before the ball is snapped. What, you don't wait until the ball is snapped and then go, all right, I should really figure out where I'm supposed to be on this play. So, he understood, and I think that gave him a little bit of confidence. And I remember him telling me that he stepped up to be a table leader at a church that really takes manhood and and fathering and all that stuff very, very seriously. And I was like, yeah, that's the that's the natural outgrowth of the stuff that we're talking about. And that's the thing about Bryce is he just he's not just going to take the good advice under consideration. He's going to take it to heart, and then he's going to turn it into action, right? Totally. Yeah. You're going back to what you said, um, about our church, our Mark Driscoll always says he raises or raises up men to bless women and children. And that's how I feel about Dominion as well. It's like you guys you are constantly making sure that these men are being held accountable and blessing our lives and their families' lives and for that I'm very grateful. Well, for for my perspective, the thing that I can't do is I can't control these men and I also can't control their circumstances. All I can do is pray for them to have, you know, a bride like you that is very supportive of what they're doing and pushing them towards the thing that will also push them closer to God cuz it's kind of a triangle, right? God's at the top, here's wifey, here's husband. Well, as they both pursue the Lord, it's I only have one hand, so I can't do it as cool cuz I can't get my other arm up, but they're going to be getting closer to God at the same time at and to each other as they're getting closer to God. But you can only control you. You can only control the controllables. But as we wind to a close here, Katie, I've been very very thankful for your perspective on all this. We've got guys right now that are on the fence about even just applying. You know, for whatever reason, maybe they're scared, maybe they don't know cuz again, we don't put a whole lot of information out there on the interwebs. You know, you really have to go through the process to really learn whether or not this is for you. Maybe they're on the fence about doing an interview, right? They you know, the deadline's coming. They're like, "Shoot, should I go and snag one of these spots? Do I mean it this time?" Maybe they [clears throat] they've gone through the interview. They've been told about the program. This is what it is and they're in that 24-hour period where it's like, "Hey, crap or get off the pot. Like we're either doing this or we're not." Like but then even more specifically, Katie, yeah, talk to the men. Talk to the wives. If the wives are listening to this right now and I'm going to send it to the guys cuz I already know what the objections are going to be to whether or not they're going to join this. What would you say to these wives who are just like, "I just don't know. Is this the right time? Is this the right program? Is Kyle the right, you know, leader for this? Is my husband actually going to do it this time? Is anything ever going to change or is this just going to be, you know, a long 6-month program that that leads us to where we were when we got started?" Yeah, and I think those are reasonable concerns. Um but like I said earlier, um if your husband comes to you and says, "I want to be part of this program. I want to pursue pursue the kingdom. I want to be a better husband, a leader, a uh better father to my children." How can you put any monetary value on that? As well as why would you hold him back? It is so important to encourage our men to be leaders of our home um and to to pursue the kingdom. I mean, truly we live in a soft world where there is not enough men doing this. So, we need to encourage our men to be to be leaders. And um I I truly I speak from the bottom of my heart when I say that it has influenced every single part of our life and it has been so beneficial. And in seeing my husband follow the Lord and become more passionate about these things, I become more passionate. Like I pursue the Lord more as well and our family is thriving from this. Um and I'm just truly grateful and I I don't I just please don't say no because your family will truly benefit. Just even men being held accountable is so important and that is one thing that your program does is hold men accountable with each other, with you. Well, yeah, I'm so thankful for that perspective because here's the thing, anytime you put a a price tag on something, some people will look at it as a cost. But what this program is is an investment cuz I remember I believe I believe this is correct. This was an interview for a Team One guy and I don't believe he ended up signing up. So, this guy laid out his situation, right? He's a little bit overweight. Uh he's gotten a little soft mentally. He's not really performing at work the way that he wants to. He's not really pursuing his wife. Uh you know, his kids aren't really kind of into him. Dad's just kind of around. He's like he's like an extra piece of furniture that no one likes to sit on. Like it's just you know, it's it's that kind of situation. And then I just kind of repeated back to him. I said, well, let's say over the the the length of this program, you were able to and then I basically repeated back the inverse of what he just told me. Hey, have a lot of positive influence in your home. You're pursuing your wife in an Ephesians 5 way. To be pursuing the Lord, you know, catechizing your children. Like you're in shape. You've got that edge back, that competitiveness, that drive, that energy, blah blah blah. And then I cuz again, he kind of balked at the investment. I said, what monetary value would you put on that? What is that worth? Right? Because we buy things because we think they're worth it. Whether it's a mouse or a water bottle or headphones or something like that, you know, we look at what is the the the price and then we we evaluate whether or not it has that amount of value to us in order for us to make that trade. And he just got stuck with the question because he knew the answer, but he knew what the answer meant. The answer is is you almost can't put a price on me becoming that man during this period of time because if you look at it that way, you'll figure out the scratch. You'll you'll make a sacrifice if you need to make a sacrifice. You'll you'll do some extra things in order to make it happen for you cuz part of it, Katie, is that psychological thing. It goes back to what you said about Bryce. He was already in a pretty good spot, right? >> Mhm. And he could have just gone on being pretty good, but that's not what he wanted, right? And you didn't want that for him either. He wanted to get to this elite level and I wanted to try to help deliver that elite level, you know, husband and father and community member to y'all. And that's so that's my role, but then he's actually got to do the work. But for him, he saw this of infinite value regardless of whatever the price tag or investment was and I think that makes such a big difference in the mindset. Oh, totally. I mean, going back to that point um you know, we're surrounded by people all the time or it's like, you know, how Bryce, how or they'll ask me personally, how do you have such a great, kind, loving husband who prioritizes you, prioritizes the family, and then, you know, you speak to the men and you tell them and they're like, "Oh, actually, uh you know, I want what you have, but I'm not willing to work to get there." And that is just so such a crazy concept to me because nothing in life comes easy and the And men and Bryce in particular is constantly pursuing difficult things and therefore making him be a better man for it. That's the idea and that's that's the whole mission. That's why we got into this space. You know, again, 3 4 years ago, we never thought we'd be doing this as Undaunted Life, but then it became abundantly clear that guys needed and wanted more. And I'm so thankful for guys like Bryce being a part of the program. I'm so thankful for people like you that are helpmates made fit for him and supporting him and pushing him in this direction. So, Katie, thank you again for coming on today. Thank you, Kyle.
