This is Undaunted Life a Man's Podcast.
0:53
I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:56
Let's get into it.
0:57
All right, guys, as you know, all week we've been having different guys from the Dominion
1:00
program come on here and talk to you a little bit about their experience, why they joined
1:04
the Dominion program.
1:05
And again, if you're not familiar with the Dominion program, if this is the first episode
1:07
you've listened to, this is a coaching program that I've founded and that I've created because
1:12
guys have consumed so much Undaunted Life content, right?
1:15
So they've listened to hundreds of podcasts, they've read the devotionals, they've done
1:18
all the things and they were like, Kyle, I want more.
1:21
I want to go deeper, I want to have a group of guys that I can go through this type of
1:25
content with because I want to be equipped to push back darkness.
1:28
And so today on the show, we've got Justin Booth.
1:30
He is a member of Team One.
1:32
And so Justin, welcome to the show.
1:34
Don't be nervous.
1:35
Thanks, Ben.
1:36
Yeah, it's good to have you.
1:37
Yeah, it's absolutely great to have you.
1:39
So you were one of the first people that joined Team One.
1:43
But before we even get to Team One of Dominion, let's just do some basic work.
1:46
So what's your age?
1:47
What's your location?
1:48
What's your profession?
1:49
What's at the standards there?
1:51
Sure, man.
1:52
Thank you so much, Kyle.
1:53
I'm 45.
1:54
I'm in Indiana and I'm a project manager by trade, so to speak.
2:00
Okay.
2:01
So what kind of project management do you do?
2:03
So I do work for a pretty large company.
2:05
We launch new products all the time.
2:07
So some of these are like three, four years in development.
2:10
So I'm kind of in charge of the team that considers all aspects of that and what it takes to
2:14
take a new product and market.
2:16
Okay.
2:17
Very, very good.
2:18
And remember, Justin, as you're talking, I can remember going back all the way to our
2:21
first meeting.
2:22
I remember talking to you and I'm just seeing where you're at now with everything.
2:25
It's just very interesting.
2:26
So let's just start basic.
2:28
Like undaunted life.
2:29
There's a billion podcasts out there.
2:30
There's a ton of different things that present themselves as men's ministries or whatever
2:33
that means.
2:34
But how did you find undaunted life and why in the world did you keep listening to us?
2:39
That's a great question.
2:40
So I have never really spent much time in podcasts.
2:46
It's just, you know, if I had time to throw your buds in or whatever, it was probably
2:49
music, right?
2:50
Musically, it just means a lot to me.
2:53
But since 2018, I've just have really been on a call to maturity to journey.
2:58
I don't know what else to call it, really.
3:01
And I joined a local chapter of what's called Fight Club and it's men's ministry discipleship.
3:07
It's trying to get men to be more intentional.
3:10
And we were doing a book study and we kind of, it was a 10 week thing and it was awesome.
3:14
And then the summer was kind of like, what next?
3:17
And someone was like, hey, check out this devotional about building a manly, godly manly
3:22
foxhole.
3:23
And that was you, brother.
3:24
And I was like, who is this guy with this metal intro music and, you know, what is this?
3:31
I wanted to know more.
3:32
So, you know, you got like two or three devotions out there on the eversion app.
3:36
So I checked them all out and that led me to your podcast.
3:39
And so I started kind of devoting some more time around that somewhere around five years
3:44
ago.
3:45
And, you know, I'm checking you out and keep listening.
3:47
Honestly, to keep listening, it's because at this stage of my life, I really appreciate
3:54
I've just found a deeper appreciation for truth being spoken into me.
3:59
I mean, if I go via tear rip open to the band aid Kyle and go all the way back to like,
4:04
you know, I was a man in the house when I was really young, you know, dad left and it's
4:09
kind of, you know, you're coming into your teenage years.
4:12
And I just, you know, having that strong voice of speaking truth into you, come alongside
4:17
you.
4:18
That's what when you talk to authors, when you talk to other guys about what it means
4:22
to be, you know, a manly guy, a godly man.
4:27
I just wanted to hear more about that and do my best to put it in practice.
4:32
Okay.
4:33
I love that answer and I'm obviously familiar with your background, things like that.
4:36
But if we can dig into that just even a little bit further, so I've talked to a lot of guys
4:40
and even there are some guys that I know very, very well personally that at some point before
4:44
they were before they were ready and certainly before they were of age, they had to be the
4:47
man in the house and they had to kind of absorb the role and kind of do the responsibilities
4:51
of what that means without being equipped to do so.
4:55
So I mean, that's a big gap between being a teenager taking over for the house and being
4:59
in your mid forties and joining the Dominion program.
5:02
And so what had you tried to do to try to like learn in that moment or try to like mold
5:07
those things even into adult years for even your own family so that they wouldn't have
5:11
to experience that same loss, I guess, that you felt as a teenager.
5:15
Well, that's, yeah, that gets into some deep stuff, but I guess I don't know what else
5:22
to say, but you know, I was saved in early age, had a beautiful Christian mom.
5:28
Most of my education was actually done at home.
5:31
And so when, you know, it was actually a science class, right, talking about the vastness of
5:35
the universe and just, you know, God create hung the stars and, you know, light years
5:40
away and what all that meant.
5:42
And yet he knows the number of hairs in your head and how special you are to him.
5:47
It was literally my sister and I, we both went off on our own directions and compared
5:51
notes.
5:52
We went off and just, you know, prayed to receive Christ that it was nine for me, a little younger
5:57
for my sister.
5:59
And I'll just just give glory to God for the level of energy and kind of learn as I
6:05
go adaptability, if you will.
6:08
And so stuff, things I could do, right?
6:11
I did have, you know, I saw out other men.
6:14
I worked for a construction company or a guy who built houses and he just taught me so much,
6:19
not just how to cut and measure a two by four, but you know, that level of integrity.
6:24
And so I, you know, things like don't leave trash on the worksite and things like that.
6:29
Just a really godly man.
6:31
And so I look for those and, and so the things in the doing and all that, well, again, to
6:35
go very personal here.
6:37
What led to my father being out of the house was a long line of men in my family that were
6:44
not faithful to their wives and had multiple marriages.
6:48
And I did not want that for me.
6:50
And so I took becoming married to my wife and starting a family.
6:56
And I took that extremely seriously and it was out of men's event where I just remember
7:02
being able to put a name for it and God is calling me to be a chain breaker, a chain
7:07
breaker of men in my family who have done that.
7:10
But in some cases, that's just the minimum requirements.
7:16
I talk about this maturity journey, right?
7:20
And you know, hey, honey, I'm home.
7:23
I didn't cheat on you today.
7:25
That was like, that's like minimum requirements, man.
7:27
My wife and my family needed a lot more for me and deserved a lot more.
7:31
So that was like in this time frame of just growth and trying to be more intentional,
7:36
you know, getting back in the word and learning and being equipped and your podcast, other
7:42
books and things.
7:43
I'm not a recreational reader, Kyle.
7:46
So, you know, books on your hundred books that ever managed to read, some books on there
7:52
are reds, others that recommended to me by a pastor or somebody or a guy in my fight
7:59
club.
8:00
You know, I tried to put into practice the things I'm reading, you know, really getting
8:05
down to the nitty gritty like this morning, you know, working on my relationship with
8:09
my wife, working on my physical body, keeping myself, you know, ready to provide and protect
8:14
and then spending that time with the Lord and prayer and in his word.
8:19
And so that's where the equipping comes from, the example I did not have and and trying
8:25
to a little bit learn as I go, but, you know, hopefully my turning into a man that God wants
8:30
me to be.
8:31
Absolutely.
8:32
I appreciate you getting into that detail.
8:34
And so let's talk about the Dominion program.
8:36
And so obviously with Dominion, this was not something that we put out there publicly initially.
8:40
I sent some, you know, strategic emails to a strategic group of people just kind of ferreting
8:45
out like, okay, is there any interest in something kind of sort of like this, got a lot of response
8:49
and it's like, okay, well, let's answer some questions for me hop on a zoom call.
8:53
Let's let's just kind of talk through this.
8:54
And I kind of gave you, hey, this is what the program is.
8:58
This is why we set it up.
9:00
Here's a type of guy that I'm looking for.
9:01
And so for you, you know, we'll get into the program, but like, what was it about the program
9:06
and just how I pitched it?
9:07
That was even interesting to you.
9:09
Well, for us team one guys, you made no secret of the fact that you were getting us going.
9:18
The element of doing what you do with on Donded Life, that vision, you were trying to just
9:25
carry that on into a personal and kind of expanding role, make it more real to guys who
9:32
would join the program.
9:33
But beyond that, I mean, you had the vision obviously, but you had no, you were not secretive
9:38
of the fact that you really didn't know where this was going to go exactly.
9:40
And so for us team one guys, you know, yeah, I was starting with this cryptic email of,
9:44
you know, invite, would you be interested in something that sounds like this?
9:47
And I'm like, well, if it's coming from Kyle, yes, because I know at least he's speaking
9:52
God's truth and trying to quit men.
9:54
So yeah, I just, I bought in because again, I'm on this journey, I walk with the Lord.
10:02
I'm looking for, you know, leveling up, right?
10:04
I want to be that next level guy, next level child of God, next level husband, next level
10:12
father, right?
10:13
So I was, I was looking for, you know, another, another challenge.
10:16
I don't mind taking on challenges.
10:18
Hey guys, real quick, very early on in undaunted life, I knew I wanted to partner with a meat
10:23
delivery service, but I didn't know which one to do.
10:25
So I tried out several different ones.
10:27
And here's the thing that I found out about some of the most popular brands that you've
10:30
heard of before.
10:32
These are people that are sending you stuff that is produced here in the United States,
10:37
but every single month you might be getting beef from a different farm.
10:40
And so one month your box may be full of amazing beef and the very, very next month you're
10:45
going to get stuff that isn't up to snuff and stuff that you don't want to feed yourself
10:49
or your family.
10:50
And so I wanted to partner with a farm with an operation with a cattle producer that is
10:55
giving you the same high quality beef every single month.
10:59
And that's why I want you to use the official beef delivery partner of undaunted life, primal
11:04
beef.
11:05
Primal beef is a cattle operation owned and operated by Sean Glass.
11:08
He's a retired Navy seal that partnered with Jocko Willink.
11:11
Yes, that Jocko Willink to launch primal beef.
11:14
So what makes primal beef different from the other beef delivery companies?
11:17
It's a combo of the following.
11:19
It's all American black Angus cattle.
11:21
The beef comes from one farm and that's in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.
11:24
The beef is all natural, no hormones ever, no antibiotics ever, no mRNA ever.
11:30
After slaughter, the entire carcass is dry aged and then hand cut by artisan butchers
11:35
and then flash frozen to ensure that it maintains tenderness, marbling and flavor.
11:39
And here's another cool thing.
11:40
For every box sold, primal beef donates meet directly to a member of America's Special
11:45
Operations Forces through the C4 Foundation.
11:48
So you can take pride in knowing that your purchase will help put literal food on the
11:52
table for America's finest warriors.
11:55
Are you salivating yet?
11:56
If not, it's probably because you're a communist.
11:59
Don't be a communist and try primal beef out today by going to www.primalbeef.com.
12:05
That's primalbeef.com.
12:06
Use the promo code CHILD to get 25 bucks off your first order.
12:09
Again, that's primalbeef.com, promo code CHILD, K-Y-L-E to get 25 bucks off your first order.
12:16
Okay.
12:17
And so you jump in and yeah, it's kind of the funny, the running joke of team one to
12:20
where it's like, "Hey, do y'all realize y'all signed up for something that didn't technically
12:23
exist?"
12:24
I mean, it existed, but it was very nebulous and then obviously we've gotten into several
12:29
more teams since then and now we're launching like even more teams.
12:31
It's kind of an insane thing to see how many teams that we're looking at doing now into
12:35
the future.
12:36
But let's talk about your experience with the program.
12:38
So what value has the program brought to you?
12:42
What were some aha's that you've had or any connections with some of the other guys?
12:46
Let's just kind of go through a little bit of that.
12:49
Awesome.
12:50
Great.
12:51
Yeah.
12:52
So the value, getting to spend time with you, Kyle, picking your brain, you've gotten
12:58
us connected with other people that you know to help us, help me and the team, want to
13:05
say us.
13:06
We really, really go deep, ask a lot of questions, clarifying questions, you know, some things
13:11
we know, but it helps so much when the guy who spoke it or the guy who wrote it is able
13:17
to put a little more color around what they were really going for in that.
13:21
And so all of us, I think, have had some deeper level of understanding of the content
13:26
we've been consuming, whether it be your podcast or someone else that you've had on
13:30
the show.
13:31
We go off and listen to them and deep dive them.
13:33
That's certainly one level of, again, just many of you call them.
13:36
They call that head knowledge, some ahas, you know, with most things in life, man, if
13:42
you want something out of it positive, it is directly relates to how much you put into
13:50
it.
13:51
That's right.
13:52
And so the guys and I, you know, we meet without you.
13:56
So we can talk about you a little bit behind my back, like a bunch of jerks.
13:59
Yeah.
14:00
Yeah.
14:01
That's right.
14:02
You know, we connect, we do physical challenges, hey, this month we're going to do, you know,
14:07
who can do a thousand burpees in a month, but, you know, we're reading Matt Chandler's
14:11
explicit gospel book this month, just something to challenge each other, have something to
14:16
connect on through the app or through text messages.
14:20
Another aha, Kyle, is the Dominion team, the guys in your team, you know, yeah, a great
14:30
group of guys.
14:31
All of them, God-fearing, just that like-mindedness of trying to be better for God's glory in
14:39
our work, in our family life, which is, of course, most important, and then just that
14:44
daily walk with the Lord.
14:46
But they're never going to be my foxhole guys.
14:51
So that aha of, I love them like brothers, you know, when we got to meet up, it was brohugs
14:57
all around and then it was, you know, teasing each other and praying for each other and
15:02
these great things.
15:03
But, you know, geography is an important part of your foxhole.
15:07
So that realization of, I love them, they're brothers now, but they're, they just can't
15:13
physically be there for me.
15:15
I'm not going to have them, maybe, you know, a special trip or something like that, but
15:19
they're not going to be over once a week at the, at the, around the dinner table.
15:22
And, you know, like you talk about, you've got that level of accountability and vulnerability
15:26
with somebody who says, can call you out and say, Justin, you're a little bit of a jerk
15:30
to your wife, the other night, do you realize the tone you just had?
15:32
Hey, when you shoot off your young man over there, you kind of, you kind of crushed him
15:37
a little bit.
15:38
That level of vulnerability, right?
15:39
That's, that's what we need to replicate as dominion men.
15:42
We need to replicate on that local level.
15:45
You know, take what we're getting from the program and put it into action on that local
15:48
level.
15:49
One, it's, it's really good that you put it in that frame of local level because that's
15:54
also part of the thing is because just when I was going around doing these speaking engagements
15:57
or, you know, these people would reach out from all over the country and all over the
16:01
world even.
16:02
And they were talking about things in their local community and it would be everything
16:05
from, Hey, is there a man friendly church in, you know, who's, what's its Montana that
16:09
I should go to?
16:10
Or, you know, is there, who should I be reaching out to?
16:12
Do you know any other guys in my community?
16:14
It's like, well, no, man.
16:15
Like that's, that's you.
16:16
And so this was part of the, okay, get, get out from behind the microphone to a degree
16:21
and kind of get into the muck and get into like the dirt of your area.
16:26
Because the thing is is, yeah, I could, you know, I could expand the show.
16:29
I could pay for more advertising.
16:31
I could like do all these different things to do that.
16:33
But it's like, I need y'all pushing back darkness where you live, right?
16:37
It's kind of like when I go speak somewhere and I tell people all the time I've kind of
16:39
made it a joke, which like my style is burn it down and walk away.
16:42
So if you invite me to your community, to your church to do a speech, I will go in there
16:46
and I will, I'm trying to throw incendiary devices all over the place to try to just
16:51
light these dudes up a little bit, but you got to be ready to deal with the ashes at
16:55
the end and like, you know, figure out how to get these guys engaged discipleship guys
16:59
that become Christians, like starting their discipleship and sanctification process, all
17:03
all of that, right?
17:04
Like kind of helping those guys be on that journey.
17:06
But hearing me talk about pushing back darkness on my show is one thing, but you doing it
17:11
in your household, in your business, in your community, in your congregation.
17:17
That's where this actually teases out.
17:18
You know what I mean?
17:19
That's, that's absolutely right.
17:21
That's where some might call it the ripple effect.
17:24
That's where it really comes into play.
17:25
And you know, we've got to be not just hearers of the word, doers of the word.
17:34
And I mean, just the other night, right, I had a long drive home.
17:39
We were at a state, nice weekend, and family goes into unpack the van mode, which is, which
17:47
is fine.
17:48
You know, it's a logistical thing.
17:49
And then, and I'm getting load number three or whatever, and the wife comes out and all
17:53
the little ones are already fighting with each other.
17:55
Just must be something.
17:57
And then I remembered that quote was like, am I going to be the thermostat or am I going
18:01
to be the thermometer in this moment?
18:04
And Kyle, I'm not saying Mr. Bragg, but I just knelt down behind the minivan and said
18:10
a quick prayer.
18:11
I said, I'm putting this under practice.
18:13
I'm not.
18:14
It was a good weekend.
18:15
I'm not going to let this go sour.
18:17
You know, I don't care what attitudes are going on.
18:19
I'm going to go back in Mr. Play at Mr. Calm and hey, we're going to take care of what
18:23
needs to get done.
18:24
But this isn't going to turn, you know, this is going to turn the evening, you know, to
18:30
the bad.
18:31
I'm not going to happen.
18:32
Bro, literally last night, my wife's using my own quotes against me.
18:35
She doesn't even listen to the show because it's dangerous, it's dangerous if you listen
18:37
to the show.
18:38
But literally last night, I can't remember the circumstances, but she goes, babe, I need
18:42
you to be the thermostat right now.
18:43
I'm not the thermometer.
18:44
I was like, how dare you?
18:46
But also you're right.
18:47
So I didn't really know exactly what to do in that moment.
18:49
So I just decided to humble myself and become the best thermostat I could be.
18:53
But yeah, those are just those little nuggets throughout y'all's interactions with each
18:56
other, you know, our group interactions.
18:59
And again, the, you know, the program has evolved quite a bit from even just the first
19:02
things that we were doing.
19:03
So a lot of stuff that y'all are doing is not what a lot of these future teams are going
19:06
to be doing.
19:07
A lot of stuff is improved.
19:08
There's there's even more content.
19:09
And all that stuff say, again, guys, it's undaunted dot life slash dominion, undaunted
19:14
dot life slash dominion.
19:15
You got to get your applications in now.
19:17
We've already got people that are signed up for the program.
19:19
We got a limited number of stuff that we're looking at.
19:22
But as a way to just wrap up here, Justin, anytime you get into something like this that
19:27
requires an investment of time and investment of your personal resources and investment
19:32
of like almost, I don't want to make it too grandiose, but like it's a soul level commitment
19:37
to something.
19:38
If you really want to get something out of it, because I mean, you get out what you put
19:40
in to a degree, what would you say to any guys right now that are on the fence, either
19:45
about applying, which I mean, applying, I mean, you can put an application into anything and
19:49
not follow up on it.
19:50
But those guys that are like, man, I think this is that thing that I needed.
19:54
I think this was that thing that I was praying for that God's now showing me.
19:56
I think this is that thing that's going to give me the kick in the pants or whatever.
20:00
What would you say to the guy that's on the fence and just hasn't quite jumped yet?
20:03
That's funny.
20:04
You've heard me say that phrase kick in the pants, right?
20:07
That's one of the things I might have said in my application about this.
20:14
Some guys may be able to figure out the time.
20:16
Some guys may be able to figure out the financial investment.
20:20
Some guys may be able to figure out how to read a book.
20:24
But you mentioned the soul, and that's what connects that all together.
20:31
For me, jumping in in some level of not knowing what the program was, the investment, what
20:40
your expectations were, I'm fine with high expectations.
20:44
You met those clear, but you said some are going to evolve over time.
20:49
Connecting of time, resources, what it means with your expectations, meet the expectations
20:59
of the team member.
21:00
I see that as a full body commitment, if you want to call it that, it ties that all together.
21:10
If you're going to go on the fence, you've got to decide, I am in and I'm going to...
21:19
You don't want this to turn into that gym membership we don't use, right?
21:22
You got to be there all in, and whether it's time with Kyle, time with the team brothers,
21:32
be vulnerable, be willing to learn.
21:36
The times that me and some of the team one guys have had together were we're trying to
21:40
replicate that pushing back darkness to take how we've been equipped and roll out community.
21:46
You know, hey, in that group call, I love what you said about that, hey, can you get
21:51
with me offline and like, do you have a checklist or something I can share, maybe I can replicate.
21:55
I know my guys, I know what they'll turn them on, maybe I can take sections of your list,
22:00
and so that equipping comes from, sometimes you need to be someone who's being mentored,
22:09
you're going to mentor and be held accountable by a peer, and then you've got to bring someone
22:14
maybe more younger or immature, you got to bring them up, mentor them, right, that three
22:19
levels of mentorship, and we get all that in, and the Dominion programs help me do that.
22:27
I'm so glad we still have some time left, Kyle.
22:30
Well, no, Justin, that's the thing with the program is I have a tendency to control.
22:36
I like to control and finagle and like, you know, do different things, and that's like
22:39
I'm just a high control personality, but with Team 1, one of the best decisions that I made,
22:44
and this is, you know, reverberated throughout the other teams that we've had, the more I
22:49
get out of the way, well, it's not the more I get out of the way, the better it goes, but
22:53
when I get out of the way, things improve, because there's certain things that I am the
22:58
only one that can bring that to a program.
23:00
But if I try to micromanage what you guys do with each other outside of our Dominion
23:04
time, what y'all do with each other and your other interactions, it's I become the limiting
23:09
factor.
23:10
And you don't want to be the limiting factor.
23:11
You want to be the thing that helps coalesce things together so that it can grow even more.
23:15
And that's one thing that you guys with Team 1 have really taken, you really take an ownership
23:20
of that as a word, but Justin, you know the drill, you've listened to a lot of my interviews.
23:23
You know how I like to end it, but that's all for me.
23:25
Is there anything else you want to get off your chest?
23:27
No, man.
23:28
It's been pretty much Kyle.
23:29
Thanks for having me on.
