0:30 This is Undaunted Life of Man's Podcast.
0:53 I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:55 Let's get into it.
0:56 Frankly, welcome to the studio, man.
0:58 Man, I'm glad to be here today.
1:00 You are a cypher sore eyes.
1:02 I will just tell you right from the beginning.
1:03 That is the most substantial mustache we've ever had at this table.
1:06 There have been other mustaches, but you have the gold medal.
1:08 I just don't currently have it on me.
1:10 So what's up with this?
1:11 How long has this been going on?
1:12 Like, that's a good look.
1:14 Man, this has been going on for several years.
1:16 I had a full beard and I decided that I was going to...
1:20 My brother and sister-in-law's got a beard company.
1:23 And I was like, "Hey, bring me some mustache waxing."
1:27 I was like, "You're not doing this."
1:29 What is wrong with you doing that?
1:31 I was like, "Yeah, let's do it."
1:33 So I shaved my beard off and just started.
1:36 And literally it's getting to this spot where I need to trim it back just a little bit.
1:41 But it gets really long.
1:44 And if I had a dollar for every time somebody said, "Man, I love your mustache."
1:50 And I'd already retired about two weeks ago and been good.
1:54 And we'd be living the high life.
1:56 But yes, sir, I've threatened to shave it off a whole bunch.
2:00 But I'm like, "Ah, I'm not going through."
2:02 That's where that's at.
2:04 Well, at this point, you might need hedge clippers or something like that to get that all taken care of.
2:08 But one of the things that I'm just thrilled to have,
2:12 and again, we're a donation-based ministry.
2:14 So every time I talk to you guys out there about our donations,
2:17 that's how we're able to do stuff like this.
2:19 So turning this forging table set up into a three-camera set up,
2:22 it allows us to have more people in studio.
2:24 Because you and I connected six months ago, because I just reached out cold,
2:27 because I saw a clip of you online.
2:29 I was like, "Hey, we should chat."
2:30 And we had talked about doing something online and whatever.
2:33 But then we built out the studio and you were going to be in Oklahoma City.
2:36 And so it's like, "Okay, we just got to have you in studio."
2:38 So what are you doing in Oklahoma City?
2:40 Because you're normally out of love it, right?
2:42 Yes, sir.
2:43 Well, I was supposed to come up here for a show.
2:45 We decided to back out of the show at last minute.
2:49 And so I just decided, "You know what?"
2:53 I thought, "Well, I'm going to --
2:57 I'm going to call you and do it on Zoom."
2:59 And I thought, "You know what? God don't."
3:01 Like, there's something --
3:02 Yeah.
3:03 It's one of them divine appointments.
3:05 And you know, sometimes it's --
3:08 we miss the divine appointments because we're so busy wrapped up with --
3:13 man, I've got boots to build.
3:15 I've got hats to design.
3:17 I've got stuff to get out the door.
3:19 But you know, some --
3:21 over the last several weeks, it's like,
3:25 "Lord, help me slow down to enjoy life."
3:29 Not only life, but help me to enjoy my family more to where --
3:35 I feel like my time with God even got quick.
3:39 You know what I'm saying?
3:40 Like, my time with God was like, "Okay, I've got three minutes.
3:43 I'm going to read this.
3:44 I'm going to read three passages, three scriptures right here.
3:46 And this is going to help me get through today."
3:48 You know, them three scriptures sometimes just help me
3:51 got through the next three seconds.
3:53 Yeah.
3:54 And, you know, and then it's like, "Hey, I get to go in so fast that it's like,
4:00 where did God get put in this deal?"
4:04 So it's kind of at that spot to where
4:08 I was just at that spot where like,
4:11 "You know what?"
4:12 And I told hope.
4:13 I said, "You know what?
4:14 I'm not going to do -- I'm not going to call Kyle and do a Zoom.
4:17 I'm just going to go up there."
4:19 And a lot of my good God times,
4:25 my Holy Spirit, is windshield time.
4:27 Because I don't have to answer the phone.
4:29 I don't have to answer people running up and saying,
4:32 "Hey, Brad, I need this."
4:33 Or, "Hey, Brad, could you get this artwork done?"
4:35 Or, "Hey, I've got somebody calling over here.
4:37 And you know what?
4:39 I can get going down the road and turn on a podcast,
4:45 turn on a sermon or two,
4:48 and just truly get with me and God."
4:52 And I hate that it takes that to slow me down and to really get more.
4:56 But sometimes that's what, you know, that getting away,
5:01 and it was just peaceful drive from here to --
5:06 from love it to Edmund yesterday and just relaxed.
5:11 And so we drew all that show, and I was like,
5:15 "Man, you know what?
5:16 God, I'm just going to drive up there and see Kyle
5:18 and just do this face-to-face because there's something --
5:21 I don't know what God's going to do.
5:23 You know, it's when we decrease and let him increase.
5:28 That's when great things start happening.
5:30 And, you know, it's -- and that's where I felt like it was, you know?
5:34 And so, man, I'm just glad to be up here and excited to see what God's going to do
5:38 and be around like-minded people.
5:41 Well, yeah, and don't be scared to put that mustache on that microphone
5:45 so the people out there can hear you.
5:47 But I just remember, you and I's first conversation on the phone,
5:51 there were so many things that came up that I was just like,
5:54 "Dude, this is like red meat for my audience because, again,
5:56 our audience tends to be a little bit rougher.
5:58 I mean, we are the number one Christian podcast for men specifically."
6:03 But it's like it's not your typical church guy.
6:05 It's not really the khaki wearing, you know, tucked in shirt,
6:08 you know, a little bit frumpy, a little bit doughy.
6:10 It's not really that type of guy that's mainly attracted to this.
6:13 It's usually a different kind of been to guy.
6:15 But you had some rough stuff happen in your life,
6:19 and some of that was done to you.
6:21 Some of that was your own doing, just bad knucklehead decisions and all of that.
6:26 But, you know, typically you try to bring people along with a narrative.
6:29 I actually want to talk about something that you just brought up
6:32 right before we started recording because I told you about the Daily Blade,
6:36 which kind of goes into that.
6:37 If you only got a quick second, like here's some scripture for you
6:40 to walk out through the day.
6:42 But on a recent episode of the Daily Blade, I talked about like,
6:45 "Dude, you got to be humble."
6:47 And the thing is, is you will be humble one way or another.
6:51 Either you will bend the knee or God will bend it for you.
6:53 But if God humbles you, it's usually a little bit louder.
6:57 It's usually a little bit more kinetic because if you're unwilling to humble yourself,
7:01 you probably got a lot of noise.
7:02 You probably got a lot of racket around you.
7:04 And he's got to try to cut through that noise.
7:06 And it's kind of hard to do that if you're whispering.
7:08 Like some people will tell me, Brad, they'll be like,
7:10 "Man, I just haven't heard from God.
7:12 I've been praying and I've been seeking.
7:13 I just haven't been hearing from him and all that."
7:15 And I'm like, "Well, some kind of God has to yell,
7:19 but maybe he's just talking to you right now in a normal voice
7:22 and you've got so much noise in your life that you can't hear him."
7:26 It's like, "Do you want God to yell?
7:28 Let's go to Scripture and let's see about the times when God, you know,
7:31 figuratively started yelling.
7:33 But for you and your wife specifically,
7:35 y'all kind of had something recently where it was like,
7:37 "All right, we got to hit a major reset button here."
7:40 So I think that our audience would get some value from that for sure.
7:43 Man, you know, it's cool how God did it and how God turned it around
7:48 and how he's, you know, he's still in the miracle making business.
7:52 And you know, it's when God designed my destiny,
7:56 he also figured in my stupidity is kind of my, you know,
8:03 it took me 33 years to get my head out of it.
8:06 You know what I'm saying?
8:07 Like, I've tried everything in the world and then I finally decided,
8:12 "Man, you know, you get to the bottom of that barrel
8:15 and then you're like, "Okay, God, man, I'm done trying," you know?
8:20 And that's not what God wants, you know.
8:23 It's kind of like when me and you was talking just a minute ago
8:26 about mine and my wife's deal, it's, I tried to move things around
8:33 and you know, it's at pyramid.
8:36 It's God's up at the top and then it's supposed to be your wife
8:40 and then it's supposed to be your kids and then it's supposed to be your job.
8:44 I mean, man, I'm just going to be honest.
8:46 I had it all screwed up.
8:48 And you know, it's trying to build a business, trying to get things rolling.
8:53 And I put God, I had God up there, but it was a little,
8:58 it was a little bit teeny tiny God.
9:00 It wasn't like the God that can take everything.
9:04 And it's kind of like this.
9:07 I scattered a lot of pieces for 33 years before I finally come to him.
9:13 And when I finally said yes and submitted, it all just went back together.
9:18 Pretty quick.
9:19 You know what I'm saying?
9:20 Like, I mean, he just started picking pieces up and putting them together.
9:23 It's like a shattered mosaic that just came back.
9:25 Yeah, it was just like taking, like, and I'm like,
9:28 how in the world could that go to back together so quick?
9:31 And you know, it's been several months of me putting God up there
9:40 and then my business went above my wife.
9:49 Yeah.
9:50 And it's God, and then it's your wife, and then it's your kids,
9:54 and then it's your business.
9:56 And I'll be real honest with you.
9:58 It was God.
10:00 And then it was Cactus Alley Hat Company.
10:02 That's right.
10:03 And then my wife come next.
10:06 Dude, and it could happen like that.
10:08 And it happened so quick.
10:10 And, like, I just started, like, it was like, okay, I got to do this, this and this.
10:16 I've got to go here, here and here.
10:18 And my last needs was on the back burner.
10:21 And then I looked, we looked up and I was supposed to go on a helicopter hunt last Thursday.
10:28 And we wasn't good.
10:31 And it's a week before that, a guy walks in my shop to get measured for a pair of boots.
10:37 And one of the, uh, man, his name's Larry Galvan, and he is just, he's my barber.
10:46 And I go and hang out in his chairs.
10:48 And sometimes it takes me two hours to get a haircut.
10:51 And, but it's, it's like, it's, it's that God thing.
10:54 You know what I'm saying?
10:55 It's that it's like, I need that, uh, I need that appointment.
10:59 And I'm pretty sure he gives me to, he blocks off two hours when I come in there.
11:03 The first time I went in there, there was, it was a three hour haircut.
11:06 And I, I, we just cut my hair.
11:08 You know what I'm saying?
11:09 But he, he walked into the shop and this is where I really started, um, where I really
11:16 started seeing it.
11:17 And he walked into the office and me and my wife share an office.
11:20 And, um, he said, I got something to tell y'all.
11:24 I was like, all right, what's up?
11:26 And I didn't, my heart wasn't ready.
11:30 You know what I'm saying?
11:31 But my heart, like, it, people was planting seeds.
11:35 And they had been planting seeds for, for a month.
11:37 Yeah.
11:38 You know what I'm saying?
11:39 Like, Hey, Brad, like God had been speaking to me for a month, but Brad, uh, is, is so
11:46 that come hard headed and so like, you know, you know how it is?
11:49 You, you get it.
11:50 Oh yeah.
11:51 You, by gosh, we're a man and we could, I've got broad shoulders and I've got thick skin.
11:55 And I can do this.
11:57 And so he just sat down and he was like, I need to pray for both y'all.
12:01 But I'm going to tell you, if y'all too ain't good, none of this other things good.
12:08 And dude, I just looked at my wife and I was broke.
12:13 Yeah.
12:14 Like, I was, I was like, God, you could have punched me in the teeth instead of kicked me
12:22 in the nuts.
12:23 Yeah.
12:24 You know what I'm saying?
12:25 Like, but that's what it takes to get a hold of me sometimes.
12:28 You know what I'm saying?
12:29 Like, that humble pie, that, that, that was some, some hard humble pie.
12:35 And I was like, okay, God, what are you, like, what, what's going, like, how can, you
12:41 know, how can I fix this or how can I, and, and man, it's, um, I'm, I'm tough.
12:49 I'm not, I'm like, I'm, I'm, I'm a different breed.
12:54 You know what I'm saying?
12:55 Like, sometimes it's going to be my way or the highway.
12:58 And that's not what God wants.
12:59 You know what I'm saying?
13:00 Yeah.
13:01 God's tender and loving and caring and he didn't call you to be a gruff and he didn't call
13:05 you to be a hard, a hard rear, you know what I'm saying?
13:08 And here, here's where it's at.
13:10 It's like, okay, this ain't good between me and Hope.
13:14 This, this is, this is not a good situation right here.
13:17 And I'm, I'm like, okay, God, you know, so start working on me.
13:22 And there was some, there were some books, uh, or some devotionals that I started reading.
13:28 And man, I just woke up on Thursday morning.
13:30 I supposed to go on a hog hunt and I was like, Lord said, you need to ask your wife how
13:37 she really is.
13:38 And you know, I'd ask my wife, how are you?
13:41 Right.
13:42 And, and, and, and you know, we've had surface level stuff.
13:44 Yeah.
13:45 And, and you know, in the last two years, uh, we, we've got two boys, we've got three
13:50 boys.
13:51 Uh, we got, I got a 16 year old.
13:52 And I've got a 14 year old and I've got a seven year old.
13:56 And I got, and God, give me two bonus.
13:58 The two bone, my, my two oldest are mine.
14:02 You know, I claim them, but they're, they're, they're not my bi, biologic ones.
14:06 And you know, uh, two years ago, they decided they want to go live with their dad, which
14:10 you know, hey, that's great.
14:13 You know, so, so two years, my wife's been up and down and, and, and she lost, she lost
14:20 everything that she felt like she's lost some stuff.
14:22 You know, and it's like, Hey, babe, how are you?
14:24 And I, and I know you're going through a tough time.
14:27 And so it's like, I'm, I'm trying to encourage her, uh, to keep going.
14:33 And so we've, we've had our ups and our downs, but literally like in the last couple of
14:37 months, it just got, it got rough, dude, and it got real rough.
14:40 And last Thursday, um, God was like, you need to ask your wife.
14:46 And I was like, I asked her and she's like, Oh yeah.
14:50 And I said, no, I want to know how you really are.
14:53 And she said, I'm not happy.
14:56 And I wasn't happy.
14:59 And she was, and I was like, okay, take place to school.
15:02 I'll be at this table when you get back, she was like, you need to go on the hog hunt.
15:06 And I was like, no, I'm not going on that hog hunt.
15:08 I said, because if this ain't good, then I mean, why go on that hog hunt?
15:14 This is what I prayed for for years.
15:17 This is what I've asked God for, I asked God for a best friend, I asked God for somebody
15:21 that was, uh, that would love Jesus that was, was just like, I, this is what I prayed for
15:28 right here.
15:29 And I, and I, and I beat it down, uh, I've, um, not, I have, uh, uh, she, she takes the
15:39 short end of it.
15:40 You know what I'm saying?
15:41 She, she's the one when, when things go wrong at work instead of when I brought it home.
15:47 You know what I'm saying?
15:48 Yeah.
15:49 And so it was just kind of, uh, and, and then she started putting up walls and I started
15:53 seeing the walls and I, and, and I was like, man, God, I've, I've caused her to put up
15:58 walls.
15:59 Like, and he was like, you need to sit down with her and you need to have a talk.
16:01 Y'all need to figure this out.
16:02 Like it's, I didn't, they're, they're, the word that, that D word is nowhere in your
16:08 vocabulary.
16:09 Like, don't, don't let it be in your vocabulary.
16:12 And I just told her, I said, Hey, we're going to, we're going to figure this out.
16:16 And it was 11 o'clock before we got done and you want to know what that was perfect.
16:21 And I called, I called Larry and I said, Hey, Larry, I said, we need to come see you.
16:27 And we didn't come see you tonight.
16:28 And he's like, okay.
16:30 So we went over there.
16:31 We had a long, about three hour conversation.
16:34 I had to swallow my pride.
16:35 I had to eat some of that humble pie, I had to start apologizing and I had to start pouring
16:41 out my heart and, and I don't know, uh, it's, it's like God got a hold of that steering
16:47 wheel.
16:48 Well, let me, let me just put it this way.
16:50 I got out of the dad gum driver's seat and let God get in the driver's seat and I got
16:53 over in the passenger seat and I turned on my hearing aids.
16:56 I don't have hearing aids, but I, I turned on my hearing and I said, I said, God, man,
17:01 I, I've screwed up a lot of stuff.
17:03 I want you to start showing me and I want to start truly apologizing and pulling brick
17:12 by brick down that my wife's put that, that I've caused my wife to put up.
17:17 And literally I didn't know that we had this much love and this much connection.
17:25 And within 24 hours, we were a whole lot better than where we was.
17:34 I mean, like, uh, I didn't know that we had that much compassion and affection and, and
17:40 that much love towards one another.
17:43 It's, it's like it come back greater than it was, but man, I'm just going to be real
17:47 honest with you, Brad had to get the heck out of the way.
17:50 You know what I'm saying?
17:51 I had to, I had to remove myself, he is greater than I, but I was greater than him.
17:57 You know what I'm saying?
17:59 And, and, and Brad was going to, Brad was going to do this, like Brad's way and Brad's
18:04 way bit him in the ass.
18:05 You know what I'm saying?
18:06 Well, what you were modeling was, was the ultimate level of humility because you go back
18:10 to the gospel.
18:11 You have the lawyer that sent there to trip up Jesus, right?
18:13 Hey, what's the greatest of all the laws?
18:15 No matter how he answers, they're going to, they're going to nail him, right?
18:17 That's what they think.
18:19 And Jesus said, love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
18:23 And the second is like it.
18:24 Love your neighbor as yourself.
18:25 Right.
18:26 Okay.
18:27 So what does that extrapolate out to into real life guys on this planet?
18:30 Your number one primary thing is to love the Lord, your God with all your heart, soul, mind
18:33 and strength.
18:34 Yes.
18:35 Now let's talk about your neighbor.
18:36 Who's your primary neighbor?
18:37 Well, guys, if you're married, that's your ride, that's your primary neighbor.
18:40 Guess who your secondary neighbor is?
18:42 Your kids.
18:43 You have to raise them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
18:45 You're not going to be, you know, given an account to God someday for how you shepherd
18:48 at someone else's kids, unless you're a pastor, but if you're just a normal dude, you got
18:52 to give an account for how you shepherded your kids.
18:54 Tertiary is everybody and everything else.
18:57 So that's all your other family, all your other friends, your businesses, your job, your
19:01 boss, everything else comes after that.
19:03 And guess what?
19:04 If any of those tertiary things get put in any of the primary roles, you got big problems,
19:09 right?
19:10 Yeah, it's a great way to happen.
19:11 Yeah.
19:12 And that's where I was.
19:13 I mean, and we, we was, we was on, we was on a road to destruction.
19:17 Yeah.
19:18 But it's like wives submit to your husband, but husbands treat your wives like you, like
19:26 God treats the church.
19:27 And what did he do for the church?
19:29 Gave himself a sacrifice.
19:30 And, and as guys, we think, Oh, sacrifice one big sacrifice.
19:34 Don't take her, take me like this, you know, Hollywood things like no brother.
19:38 You have to die to yourself every second of every day, sacrificially to the benefit,
19:43 or downing benefit of your bride, just like Christ did and is still doing.
19:48 You're exactly right.
19:49 And the hardest part of all this was one word was saying one word.
19:59 I'm sorry.
20:00 Yeah.
20:01 Sorry.
20:02 I'm like, and, and being, and it, and it coming from here, right, like, man, I am sorry.
20:10 You know what I'm saying?
20:11 We, we mean you as means we can be sorry.
20:15 You know what I'm saying?
20:16 Well, I can get real sorry real quick.
20:18 You know what I'm saying?
20:19 Like I, I lived a past life that was, was sorry.
20:22 You know what I'm saying?
20:23 Like, like, I, I'm going to tell you, if you'd have met me 11, almost 11 years ago, I was
20:29 sorry.
20:30 I mean, it was, I was ate up with drugs.
20:32 I was ate up with alcohol.
20:33 I was ate up with it.
20:35 Like, I mean, I, when, when, when you talk about the world, this, this was the world.
20:41 You know what I'm saying?
20:42 But when God truly got a hold of my heart the other day, and I heard her and I heard
20:49 me, or we, we, we communicated that I feel like there's a lot of things that could have
20:56 been prevented.
20:58 If we'd have just been, you know, man, swallowing your pride is there's a lot of, a lot of different
21:05 ways when you got to talk, talk about swallowing your pride, talking about swallowing your
21:09 pride and communication.
21:11 I, I'm not, I'm not the greatest communicator.
21:14 Like, and, and man, I was, I was, I had the greatest parents ever, but they were tough
21:24 on me.
21:25 Yeah.
21:26 You know, I mean, and, and I mean, I'm glad they were tough.
21:28 You know what I'm saying?
21:29 And, and, and like, I'm tough on my boys and I, I, yes, there comes a point in the time
21:35 to be tough, but it being tough and gruff is two different things.
21:40 You know what I'm saying?
21:41 Yeah.
21:42 And, and, and I was being gruff and tough on my wife and my kids and, and I, bro, you're
21:48 preaching to me right now.
21:50 Yeah.
21:51 Yeah.
21:52 And I, I just move, move that triangle around and, and, and put power and, and screwed all
22:00 my priorities up real quick.
22:02 You know, um, Brad's priorities didn't line up with God's priorities.
22:07 Hey, guys, real quick.
22:09 So there you are.
22:10 You're about to make some delicious meat and you open up your cabinet and you freeze.
22:16 You freeze because you look and you see you have like three or four dozen different seasonings,
22:21 but this seasoning is just for your wild game and this seasonings really good on pork, but
22:25 not really good on chicken and you just kind of lose your mind and eventually just reach
22:29 up there and grab a random one.
22:30 So here's the thing, guys, I want you to stop getting jammed up by having too many options
22:34 in the seasoning department.
22:36 It's time for you to have a go to seasoning for everything.
22:39 And that's why I want to reintroduce you to my friends over at G's seasoning.
22:43 So this is a reintroduction because back in the day, I think this was over the winter.
22:47 I told you guys about G's seasoning.
22:49 I was at my buddy, Dale Brisbane's house.
22:51 We're about to shoot a podcast and all that, but he had made me some stakes and I took one
22:55 bite of this steak and I was like, bro, what in the world was this seasoned with?
22:59 He gave me a bottle of G's seasoning.
23:01 He told me a little bit about the story about it being a small family-owned operation in
23:05 Texas and how they used to back in the '80s, just hand out bags of the seasoning out of
23:08 the back of a store and things like that, but that they had started bottling it and started
23:12 selling it.
23:13 And then I told you guys, wouldn't it be so cool if for the Christmas season, if you
23:17 guys bought some G's seasoning and you know what you guys did, y'all went out and bought
23:20 it.
23:21 And to those of you that have bought it, it has been an amazing thing for you.
23:24 All of you have loved it, so I'm glad to reintroduce them to you.
23:27 So G's seasoning is an all-purpose seasoning that is great on beef, pork, wild game, chicken,
23:32 fish, eggs, veggies, and guys, if you want a big boy hack, throw some G's on some popcorn.
23:37 You can thank me later.
23:38 So guys, stop getting a bunch of different seasonings for all of your different meat dishes.
23:42 Support a small town American family business by going to G's seasoning.com.
23:47 That is G-S seasoning.com.
23:50 Throw some G's on that.
23:51 And again, that is G's seasoning.com, that's Golf Sierra Seasoning.com order today.
23:58 Well, let's look at it this way, because you brought this up.
24:01 The first person I heard say this was Pastor Mark Driscoll, but it was lying for them, lamb,
24:07 with them.
24:08 Okay.
24:09 So let's extrapolate that out a little bit.
24:10 I've talked about it on the show, but for any of our new listeners, which we get every
24:12 week, we're so thankful for you guys.
24:15 So if your wife and children only see lamb and they don't think the lion is available,
24:23 they're going to be insecure, right?
24:25 Yeah.
24:26 So it's a woman that's married to a pussy of a man, right?
24:27 A guy that won't fight, who doesn't want guns in the house because they're scary to
24:30 him or she doesn't want a gun in the house and he just acquiesces because he doesn't want
24:34 to upset the apple card or something like that.
24:36 And so, but the kids are always like, crap, I hope something doesn't ever happen because
24:41 dad's not going to be capable of protecting us.
24:43 That's not good.
24:44 Then you got dads where it's lying all the time.
24:48 Everything's aggressive, everything's aggro, everything's rough and gruff and tough and
24:52 all the stuff all the time.
24:53 Well, they are just anxious.
24:55 Wife and kids are just anxious at all times because it's like there's a lion in the house.
25:00 And that's where my wife and kids, that's where my wife and boys are at.
25:03 Yeah.
25:04 You can't settle down.
25:05 What are we fixing to get when he walks in?
25:06 You know what I'm saying?
25:07 Exactly.
25:08 And that's a terrible situation, but if you're lamb with them, but they know the lion is
25:11 available immediately, right?
25:14 So if someone tries to hurt mom or me, if you're a kid, if someone tries to hurt mom
25:18 or someone tries to hurt me or if someone's trying to like take advantage of us or something
25:22 like that, the lion's going to be here and going to be here quick.
25:25 But the lion's only going to stay as long as the lion is necessary and then the lion's
25:28 going to go back to where the lion was, was chilling in the lambs back now.
25:32 That's that difference.
25:33 That's a dichotomy between being tough and tender.
25:35 So if you're a dad and you're not very tough, you got to fix it.
25:37 If you're a dad and you're not very tender, you got to fix it.
25:40 And if you're me, you understand both sides, but you have trouble getting it into gear,
25:45 like shoving it in the hand here.
25:47 You're going to repeat that so I can under it.
25:50 Oh my gosh.
25:51 You know what I mean?
25:52 You're preaching to me.
25:53 I'm preaching right back.
25:54 Because this is me every day.
25:55 Yeah.
25:56 And finding that happy medium is hard.
25:58 I mean, it's hard because I'm going to tell you, I've been, I've been a loose cannon a
26:04 little bit here lately, like, hey, hey, if you want, if you want to bow up and you want
26:08 to get you some lift, hey, let's try and hope for size.
26:11 I mean, I'm in, and that's not what God called me to do.
26:14 You know what I'm saying?
26:16 And it's like, I had to have a heart, a breakage of the heart, you know, and, and all these
26:23 like, I'm just, you know, I'm, I'm real, like what you get is what you see.
26:30 And you might think, Oh, I'm a pussy, you know, I'm like, I'm, I'm a sissy law law for that.
26:36 You know what I'm saying?
26:37 No, you're, you're not.
26:38 It's, it's like, but you're, you're calibrated correctly.
26:42 Your wife and kids need to see some love and compassion and it's, uh, in my seven year
26:50 old, uh, told me one day he was like, told me just, like on Sunday, he was like, dad,
26:57 you scared me a couple of times and I'm like, man, and I did my heart broke, dude, my heart
27:05 and he was like, good thing he told you though, but that right there was like, okay, I'm not
27:12 the heart.
27:13 I don't want to be this hard ass no more.
27:15 You know what I'm saying?
27:16 Like I want to be like, yes, it's okay to be hard.
27:21 I feel like the world needs a little hardness for sure, but they also need to see their father
27:31 get down on their level and give them a big old hug and just put them in, put them in
27:38 your lap.
27:39 I don't care if you're 30 or if you're two or if you're anywhere in between a lot when
27:48 my dad, well, not too long ago, my dad walked up to me and I was in the shop over there
27:52 and I had just been and, and he knew it.
27:56 He had seen it in his life, hey, he's like, it's going to be alright if you walk away
28:02 from here for just a little bit and he put his arm on my shoulder and he said, I'm going
28:09 to tell you, I'm proud of you.
28:12 You've done a heck of a job at building what you built, but it's okay to walk away for
28:17 a little bit.
28:21 But when he put his hand up there on my shoulder, dude, it just, it, it was like, man, I don't
28:29 have to be that, that hard-sewn gun and like my dad just, just walked up to me and just
28:39 told me he was proud of me, you know, and, and, and that walking up and telling, telling
28:45 your son, telling your, that you're proud of him, not, not only that, but I mean, your
28:50 wife needs to know, hey, you're doing a good job, you know, because I, I don't know about
28:57 you.
28:58 I've stepped up and done the dishes here lately and done some laundry here lately and I've
29:02 took a lot of dad gum thanks for granted because I don't want to be doing laundry.
29:05 I, I remember when my, my mom went somewhere when we was kids and dad had to do laundry
29:10 and she come home and we all had pink underwear because he washed some red and that's right
29:16 together.
29:17 I've always, and it's like, man, like, you take a lot of things for granted when you
29:22 got to cook and you got to clean and you got to do dishes and you got to do laundry and
29:26 yeah.
29:27 And, and I'm like, man, you really do got it good.
29:31 But just, just think about what your dad did for you in that moment.
29:35 He showed humility and coming up to his son because I saw quotes somewhere I'm gonna mess
29:40 it up, but it's like the only, um, the only man in your life that doesn't want you to
29:48 outdo them are sorry.
29:50 The only man in your in your life that does want you to outdo them is your father.
29:54 Yeah.
29:55 Right.
29:56 So it takes humility to walk up to your adult son to put your arm around him because he's
29:59 not a kid, but he's still your kid.
30:01 Right.
30:02 And to tell him, I mean, how many men, like in the, even in this audience are starved for
30:08 that.
30:09 Maybe they don't know their dad, maybe their dad's, you know, gone, not a part of their
30:12 life.
30:13 Maybe their dad was never affectionate.
30:14 Maybe their dad never told them they love them or they were proud of him or something
30:17 like that.
30:18 And they were just starved for that word.
30:19 Cause that's one thing about, about my dad and then every dad's going to have their problems,
30:23 but like he never in my mind missed an opportunity to tell me that he loved me and that he was
30:29 proud of me because there's something different even about those two things, even though Glenn,
30:35 because it's one thing when your dad tells you that he loves you.
30:38 That's a big deal.
30:39 But when your dad tells you that he's proud of you, like there's, there's something weird
30:42 there.
30:43 And you know, I run into this when you have any evangelistic conversations with people.
30:47 If they've had a terrible dad, right, earthly father, it's a stumbling block for them to
30:54 understand how a cosmic father could be good.
30:59 Cause they're like, wait a minute.
31:00 So this ultimate skydaddy is like the ultimate version of a father, like the super ultimate
31:06 super duper father, they're like, they can't even fathom it because theirs was so terrible.
31:11 Right.
31:12 Which is a, you know, any fathers out there listening to this, like just that, that takes,
31:15 you know, that's really important for us to consider.
31:17 But man, I mean, what an incredible moment for your dad to do that.
31:21 And just to give you a little piece of wisdom, whether it was a Holy spirit that gave it to
31:24 him or not, to just be like, Hey, like you can separate from this for a little bit.
31:29 You're going to be okay.
31:30 And dude, that's right in line with the stuff that you're fighting with about, you know,
31:34 your priorities and stuff with your wife and everything, like man, doesn't take a genius
31:37 to figure out that God's trying to get your attention.
31:39 Yeah.
31:40 I mean, and, and here's the hardest part is when it starts happening to, to realize it,
31:46 you know what I'm saying?
31:47 Like, like it's, it's like I'm not, like I'm not going to apologize for that.
31:51 You know what I'm saying?
31:52 That's, that's, that's what, that's what Satan wants.
31:54 You know, he, he wants destruction in the house.
31:57 You know, he, he don't want none of this.
31:59 He doesn't want us to become one.
32:01 You know what I'm saying?
32:02 He's, he, he's, we're better for two.
32:05 You know what I'm saying?
32:07 And what does it say about the word, you know, man, leave, man, leave his mom and his dad
32:12 and, and, and his wife will leave his mom and her mom and her dad and that, and they will
32:16 become one.
32:17 There's nowhere in there that they, that, that, that those, those, those two become two
32:22 or the, you know, and so what it's, it's like we join back together and the peace in
32:31 our shop.
32:33 I mean, she, she, she's been working for us.
32:37 I guess almost three years.
32:38 She went, she quit her job and, and went, went to work for us three years ago, just three
32:45 years ago in August, and man, it's been the greatest thing ever.
32:48 And it's, it's people are like, how, how do you do it?
32:52 And I'm, and like some, you know, there's days that we walk in, well, how was your day?
32:58 You know what I'm saying?
32:59 We're in the same dad go office, but like I'm, I'm on the phone a hundred, like, I mean,
33:05 my phone rings constantly, or I'm over there in the boot shop, or I'm having to work on
33:10 an embroidery machine or, or, or coming up with new designs or, or like, and it's like,
33:16 we were in the same building all day long for, for a, for a whole time.
33:21 Yeah.
33:22 And, and you know, it's, it's like now it's back, it's, uh, the other day we walked by and,
33:27 uh, it's just when I, I, when I started apologizing, when I, when I started having me and God started
33:37 having like, when I moved her above the hat company and got her back to where she was
33:43 supposed to be in my life and moved some things and adjusted some things, the glow came back
33:50 on her.
33:51 I, I walked by her the other day and I was like, dad, come girl, I can't keep my hand.
33:55 I don't want to keep my hands off of you and she just smiled and, and, and, and she was
33:59 like, that, that, those are the butterflies that I miss.
34:02 You know what I'm saying?
34:03 And so it is, it's like this cow us men can take a lot of things for granted.
34:11 And one thing we don't need to take a, uh, take for granted is our relationship with
34:17 God and our relationship with our wife and kids because we can, when, when we take, start
34:27 taking that for granted and we start getting turmoil and we start getting, uh, like not
34:33 seeing eye to eye and there's tension in the house, then, then your, then your kids, you,
34:39 you, it seems like your kids start having a little problems and my kids are great, man.
34:43 We've, we, I've got three, three awesome boys that love the Lord.
34:48 And I mean, it's, uh, I feel like, uh, my youngest son's kind of a prophet from God.
34:53 It's like he'll say stuff and I'm like, gosh, dang God, you know, should you send that?
34:58 I mean, like he, he's brutal some days and I'm like, and, and I just look at my wife
35:02 and she's like, I think God's trying to tell you something.
35:06 You know what I'm saying?
35:07 Yeah.
35:08 But it's God's been trying to tell me something for about the last several months.
35:13 You know what I'm saying?
35:14 Like, Hey, it's all right to slow down and walk away.
35:16 It'll be here when you get back, you need to build your wife back up.
35:20 You know what I'm saying?
35:21 We can tear stuff down, but can you build stuff back?
35:23 Well, and Brad, here's the deal.
35:25 If you went up to a guy, so, and we'll, we'll get into the, the knucklehead you were, you
35:30 know, a while back, but if you were to go up to a young man, maybe early in his marriage,
35:36 early in his business, right?
35:38 And you were to say, Hey, I can guarantee you tremendous success in your business, right?
35:44 So whether that's money, prestige, you know, you build it up, sell it, all that I can guarantee
35:48 you that, but you won't have your bride, right?
35:53 Or I can guarantee you that, well, actually I'll change the scenario.
35:57 I can guarantee that your business will be wildly successful beyond your dreams, but
36:01 I can't guarantee a perfect marriage, a marriage that is fruitful for you for the longevity
36:05 and long haul of your life, or I can guarantee that you will have a marriage that is the
36:10 center point of your life that your wife will be your best friend and that, you know, you
36:13 will love her so unconditionally that everyone's just going to be grossed out by you, right?
36:17 I can give you one guarantee.
36:19 Which one do you take?
36:20 I won't take that.
36:21 I'll have to do it.
36:22 And, and the thing is, is when you set it up to someone that way, it's always like,
36:27 well, duh, I'll take the piece at home and the thriving at home and, and all the butterflies
36:32 and all the things, right, but we don't act that way.
36:36 We act in the exact opposite and it's because we don't take, we do take them for granted.
36:41 We don't, we don't take the opportunity to be like, okay, because we're like, okay,
36:45 this business call has to happen.
36:47 I don't have to compliment my wife because she's still going to be there.
36:50 I got to go chase this business because if I don't chase it, then we ain't going to
36:53 get it, right?
36:54 This is an eat where you kill kind of an environment.
36:56 And so if I like, if I don't kill, we don't eat, so I got to go kill, right?
37:00 Because the wife will just always be there, but the, the number of times you sacrifice
37:05 the wife for the business or for the job or for the promotion or for the, the sale or
37:10 for the, whatever you guys are doing in life, brother, that has some major downstream consequences
37:15 and you're right, that gets all over your kids.
37:17 Because if you and your wife have a tremendous relationship, that gets all over your kids.
37:22 It's like, it's like, you know, tree sap, it just gets all over them and they just, they're
37:26 just marinating in the beauty of this, this union, right?
37:31 But things are bad.
37:32 I mean, the kids may not manifest it right to where you can easily see it, but gosh, it
37:36 just gets all over them.
37:37 They can't get it off.
37:38 You know what I mean?
37:39 Yes, sir.
37:40 It's, it's man.
37:41 And it, it's, it all goes back to that happy wife, happy life.
37:44 You know what I'm saying and, and, and man, God created man to build people up.
37:54 There's no where in the Bible, it's talks about tearing people down.
37:57 Yeah.
37:58 You know what I'm saying?
37:59 And, and that, and that comes straight from Satan.
38:02 You know, that comes straight from, that's, that's a lie from the pit of hell.
38:05 And you, and you know, I, I feel like there's, there's, it's, I feel like a lot of men need
38:11 to go back to, it's, it's kind of like I told my wife the other day, I said, man, it feels
38:16 so good going back and dating you.
38:18 And I mean, we, we literally, she was like, I used to not want to go out to eat with you
38:23 because all you do is sit there on your phone looking at your phone and, and a rock of your
38:28 joy right here and see, let me tell you what, that was tough because I like going out and
38:34 eating.
38:35 I like going out and eating me some good old Mexican food and she's like, I don't want
38:39 to go.
38:40 She's like, I don't, I don't, I don't want to go and have a date with your phone.
38:45 Ouch.
38:46 That.
38:47 And no subtlety there.
38:50 Yeah.
38:51 That's tough.
38:52 I've got to wear now that I turn my phone on, do not deserve.
38:57 And I got it set up to where if my wife calls or my family calls or, you know, it'll ring.
39:02 Yeah.
39:03 But other than that, it ain't going to ring.
39:06 You know what I'm saying?
39:07 Like, like, okay, babe, you know, and, and there, there's times that I got to take a phone
39:12 call.
39:13 You know what I'm saying?
39:14 But they're, but you want to know what I've also am learning that, that phone call can
39:20 wait too, because like, it's all about this, but me and her, you know what I'm saying?
39:28 Like, like, if you're not dating her, somebody else will.
39:34 And like, I, I feel like it's all about, like, God created you to be one and to have a family
39:44 to be one.
39:45 You know what I'm saying?
39:46 And, and it's, it's just, uh, so it was, it was, I'm not going to lie, it was very humbling
39:53 experience that I had, and it was not a fun humbling experience to walk through what,
39:58 what I did.
40:00 But you know, it's like this.
40:04 We walk through that and we may not understand why we walk through that.
40:10 I may have needed to walk through that for this today.
40:12 I don't know.
40:14 You know what I'm saying?
40:15 Like, it's, it's like my drug addiction and my alcohol addiction.
40:20 I walk through that and people are like, man, would you change anything about it?
40:24 No, I wouldn't because you want to know how many people's got saved because of that stuff
40:28 like that.
40:29 Yeah.
40:30 And, and it's true, it's, uh, if God created us all to be perfect, why do we need him?
40:37 Oh, yeah.
40:38 This, this whole like, yeah, come as you are to the cross, but you have to come to the
40:42 cross.
40:43 Like, look, if God just loves you the way that you are, which is terrible advice and
40:48 a terrible thing to tell a child, there is no need for Jesus to sacrifice on the cross.
40:52 You're right.
40:53 Because if he loves you the way that he are, he, that means he demands nothing of you.
40:56 I demand no change.
40:58 I will love you warts and all again.
41:00 That's Disney channel.
41:01 Right.
41:02 That's not real life.
41:03 And that certainly doesn't align with the gospel.
41:04 But for you, like it's just interesting hearing your perspective now, not only on marriage,
41:09 but just like having a gospel centered life, because, you know, as you've mentioned, like,
41:13 you know, you were in the throes of addiction and you were in the throes of suicidal thoughts
41:19 and like potential imprisonment.
41:21 I mean, there was, there was all the stuff kind of going, going on for you.
41:23 So if we can kind of go back there a little bit, like people don't just wake up one day
41:29 and become addicted.
41:30 Right.
41:31 It's a regret.
41:32 It's, it's almost like it's little by little by little by little, and then all at once.
41:35 But the all at once part is just the thing that everyone sees when someone breaks and
41:38 goes to rehab or when someone overdoses or when, you know, something big kind of happens
41:42 out, you finally drove drunk and you hit something this time.
41:44 Right.
41:45 Yeah.
41:46 But like for you, like what, what was it that kind of led to a life where you, you couldn't
41:51 lean on God or didn't even have, you know, you couldn't even fathom leaning on a heavenly
41:55 father.
41:56 It was, you know, it was the bottle and it was pills or whatever else.
41:58 And like I, like I said, I had a great mom and dad.
42:01 I had, I had a great family, but it was, it's kind of like my parents say today, you know,
42:10 I would have never let y'all drink if I'd have known that I was going to raise two alcoholics.
42:16 You know what I'm saying?
42:17 My, my, my brother, he's, he's sober.
42:18 He finally got sober.
42:20 He's, he's doing good.
42:22 But I started drinking at an early age.
42:25 I mean, stock shows, the rodeo world, I mean, we, we was, we was in and out of just a wild
42:36 lifestyle.
42:38 And you know, we'd be driving down the road.
42:39 My granddad, he'd be like, Hey, hit me a beer.
42:42 Open it up for you.
42:43 Knock the top off of it.
42:44 You know?
42:45 Yeah.
42:46 And, and I knocked the top off of it.
42:47 I'd hand it to him.
42:48 And if I wanted to sip of it, I'd just say, Hey, can I have a sip of your beer?
42:52 You know, and it tasted terrible.
42:54 I mean, I see my dad.
42:56 I see my granddad drink.
42:57 So heck, why not?
42:58 You know what I'm saying?
42:59 And, and it just, it just kind of then the next thing you know, we would, uh, sneak a
43:05 beer.
43:06 Everybody would be over with sneak a beer, run out behind the barn, have some cigarettes,
43:10 have some beers, you know, just, uh, and then it, and it just kind of turned into a
43:14 cycle.
43:15 And the next thing you know, it was, uh, I, I was drunk, caught myself drinking a whole
43:21 lot more and I was always scared of drugs just because my parents, uh, there were some
43:27 people walking around in plain view and my mom, like my mom would be like that right
43:32 there.
43:33 If you do drugs, that right there is what you're going to be like.
43:35 And I mean, like these people was like talking to the moon and the stars and the grass and
43:41 the mailboxes as they're walking down and, and just all over the place.
43:47 And I was like, man, I don't want to ever do drugs.
43:48 You know what I'm saying?
43:49 I, I'm not going to, I'm, I'm not going to be that person.
43:52 I'm not, I refuse to be that like, that's, that's not going to be me.
43:57 And, uh, man, I had AD, uh, ADD so bad, like I am, uh, can't set still like it, it's all
44:05 over the place.
44:07 And, uh, I got put on Ritalin when I was, when I was young and, uh, and, and Ritalin is just
44:13 kind of like a, another, I mean, it's, I don't think it's good for you.
44:17 You know what I'm saying?
44:18 And, but my mom was like, we got to get you some help because I mean, I was all over the
44:22 place.
44:23 I couldn't set still and, um, and then in, in years went on and man, I graduated from
44:30 playing view and, uh, then I went to WT, uh, man, my, my, my life at WT just was, was
44:37 a downhill spiral of, of, of just like my, I didn't pass no class.
44:44 I passed one class and it was my equestrian class, um, everything else was, was these.
44:50 I didn't show up to class.
44:51 I mean, it, uh, I think, I think my first year of college, I may have had like 16 different
44:59 alcohol tickets, PIs, minor and consumptions, uh, open containers like in and out of Randall
45:07 County jail, uh, just, just being wild.
45:10 I mean, just like, I, when I, when I graduated high school and I left home, it was like,
45:15 we're going to see how that game wild we really can be, you know what I'm saying?
45:20 And WT asked me not to come back, said it probably need to go to a junior college and
45:25 then, you know, so, uh, and, and my parents had moved to Garden City, Kansas after I graduated.
45:31 And so I decided to, uh, go up there and go to Dodge City and, and I, I went up there
45:36 and went to Dodge City and got my first DWI and, uh, it, it, it got dropped.
45:44 Um, and, uh, then, uh, I rocked along in 2021, come, I guess I turned 21.
45:52 And when I turned 21, I started, started dibbling and dabbling with some drugs, smoking some
45:58 marijuana, and then I went straight into, uh, methamphetamine's and, uh, pretty much just,
46:07 uh, started a downhill spiral.
46:12 And that, that downhill spiral went from me snorting a few lines to smoking it.
46:20 And then I smoked it once or twice and then it was like, a buddy of mine was like, hey,
46:27 you can take this needle and run it in your arm and, and get a whole lot better of a high.
46:33 And then next thing you know, as I, I was starting to shoot it up and man, I was losing
46:38 everything school went, the school went to crap and it was, um, I lost the best friend
46:45 in the, in the midst of this drug addiction.
46:48 I worked, I worked over in a feed yard and, um, we come home and we'd ride coats every
46:54 day after, after work and, uh, man, I, I got, didn't, I come home late one day and, uh,
47:01 collard hung a, hung a foot and stir up and got drug and, uh, I sat down the horse when
47:08 I got to the ship, got to the house and I went to searching and walked down there midway
47:13 through the pasture and found his boot and then I found him face down, uh, dead right
47:18 there and man, it, it just, uh, in granted, I grew up in church, uh, I grew, I grew up
47:25 going, going to the first Baptist church there in Plainview, Texas.
47:29 Uh, I got saved at a very young age, but the day I got saved, my older cousin got saved
47:35 and got baptized.
47:37 So it was like, that's my role model.
47:40 I'm gonna follow after him.
47:42 And so I really didn't know what I did.
47:46 There was a whole bunch of people sitting out there and that watching me and they clapped
47:50 when I went under and clapped when I come up and, and, uh, you know, and, and the little
47:55 did I know.
47:56 I didn't know what the heck I did.
47:57 You know what I'm saying?
47:58 It was, it was all just going through the motions.
48:00 You know what I'm saying?
48:02 And so, uh, I, um, uh, so I, I, you know, I grew up in knowing, knowing who God was but
48:11 not knowing who God really was, you know what I'm saying and, uh, I didn't have the intimate
48:19 relationship that I have now, you know what I'm saying?
48:22 And so, uh, we, we rocked on there and so when I found Kyle, uh, it really made it, it,
48:31 it, I had a hard heart and then two weeks later, I found my landlord, which was my drinking
48:36 buddy every day after work, uh, I found him dead in, in the hayloft.
48:42 Uh, he had died of just, he was old.
48:45 He, and, and so I had, I found both of them and it just, it just went a downhill spiral.
48:51 You know what I'm saying?
48:52 And, and, uh, then I moved back to Texas and went to work and gotten some trouble, got
48:59 some more D.W.I.'s and, um, I was 20, 22 and got caught up in a bunch of stuff and they
49:11 just kept on slapping me on the wrist and kept on slapping me on the wrist.
49:15 And finally the state of Texas, I got to go do, uh, 365 days and 10 hours to be exact.
49:23 And, um, you know, it was, um, I don't, it, it was just a time in my life where I just
49:32 went and did it.
49:33 You know what I'm saying?
49:34 Didn't get nothing out of it.
49:35 Didn't, didn't, I was so ready to get out.
49:37 You know what I mean?
49:38 When, when I went in and I knew how long I was going in for and I knew how long I was
49:42 going to be there.
49:43 And when I, when I walked out, it was, that's, that's the way it was.
49:46 You know what I'm saying?
49:48 And so I walked out and, um, I stayed sober for about two weeks.
49:56 And then I fell off and like I had a bunch, like I had people that was there for me.
50:03 You know what I'm saying?
50:04 Like they was truly like, Hey man, let me help you.
50:09 You know what I'm saying?
50:10 And I wasn't hearing it.
50:11 I was, I was back in, back in it deeper than I ever once was and, um, I was, I was still
50:19 on probation and, and, and as like, Hey, you need to do something.
50:23 You need to sober up like, and, uh, my boss at the time was Joe Hughes, which is like
50:31 another, like him and his wife, Joanna, or like another mother and a father to me, like
50:38 have been there through they've seen, they've seen just as much as my parents have.
50:44 You know what I'm saying?
50:45 Like they, they were, every time I needed something, they were there.
50:48 I worked for him nine or 10 different times, lived with them.
50:52 I mean, every time Brad needed something, Brad, Brad knew that they could, that Joe and Joanna
50:57 was going to help me.
50:58 You know what I'm saying?
51:00 And Joe, Joe, I was sitting there and he was like, dude, you got to get some help.
51:04 Like you, I was on the shop floor at the, at the trailer shop, just like, and he poured
51:10 a bucket of water on me.
51:11 He thought I was pretty much dying and, um, they, and my probation officer called me and
51:18 was like, Hey, you're either going to go check in somewhere or you're going back.
51:25 And, uh, the Driscoll house there until you Texas, Bobby Keeter was running it at the time.
51:31 And, uh, I went and talked to Bobby and I was like, Bobby, I'm like, I need, I need help.
51:35 He's like, okay.
51:37 All right.
51:38 Come on.
51:39 So I called everybody, told them where I was going.
51:41 Uh, that was on a, uh, on a Monday night and there was Trinity Fellowship preacher, uh,
51:48 Rusty Gray, um, what's his name?
51:51 He looked like Einstein, big, old, tall, big square headed dude, I'll never forget.
51:59 And, um, Tuesday morning, mid Tuesday morning, Bible, Bible study, he come in every Tuesday
52:05 morning and he, um, I sat there on the front row and I mean, I, I'm pretty sure I was death
52:12 warmed over.
52:13 I'd been up for, I don't know how long I'd been up a long time and I weighed about 175
52:21 and my eyes were sunk in the back of my head and I didn't know, well, I didn't, I didn't
52:29 know how this was fixing the fan out and he just looked down at me and he says, Brad,
52:35 if God come down today, where would you be?
52:39 I didn't even answer him.
52:41 I just got up and walked out.
52:42 Hmm.
52:43 Nobody stopped me.
52:44 Nobody talked to me.
52:45 It was, it was, I got up and I left.
52:50 And I went to work, I couldn't work, I should have been throwing up, I should have been on
52:57 the toilet.
52:58 I mean, I, I should have been going through DTs.
52:59 You know what I'm saying?
53:00 Like, I was eight up with drugs and I was eight up with alcohol and all I could think
53:06 of is, man, I know where I'm going and it ain't good.
53:11 Like this, this is, this is not a good situation right here.
53:14 Like I'm, I'm going to hell and that's just, that's where that's at.
53:18 And that, that thought kept rolling through my head.
53:22 And that night, I got back to the, to the, to the Driscoll House and Bobby is like, dude,
53:30 are you all right?
53:31 I'm not.
53:32 I'm not.
53:33 What's up?
53:34 Let's talk.
53:35 And I said, I need you to call Barry Street, Joe Hugh, Shannon, Moreland, Rusty Gray, you.
53:47 And I said, I need y'all up here.
53:49 He's like, Brad, it's like almost 10, 10 o'clock.
53:51 And I said, I don't care.
53:53 Like we got to talk, we got, and we got to talk now, like there, there, there's no more
53:58 of this running and, and gunning, like we're going to figure it out.
54:04 And he said, okay.
54:06 And they got up here, they got up there and I was like, Hey guys, Rusty, you said something
54:11 this morning.
54:12 I know where I'm going.
54:13 Like what do we got to do to change this?
54:15 Like, and we got to change it right now, like there is no more playing with this situation.
54:21 And he was like, just start confessing your sins and just inviting Jesus into your life.
54:27 And I started confessing my sins.
54:29 And when I started, they said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, like, Hey, you don't need
54:33 to, like, there's some of the stuff you don't need to be talking about.
54:35 And I was like, no, you said, confess your sins and like, I've got some dark, deep stuff
54:42 that I've done and they was like, well, maybe you and Jesus just need to have that talk.
54:50 And I'm like, if I don't get this out of here and on to here, it's kind of like the foot
54:57 of the cross can be anywhere.
55:02 This the foot of the cross can be this table right here.
55:04 Yeah, for sure.
55:06 It's just getting it out of here and getting it right here.
55:09 And when he was going from here to here, the relief, the, the forgiveness, the, the love,
55:17 the compassion, the, the, it was like all this stuff was, I was releasing all this stuff
55:24 in this.
55:25 And, and his love and compassion was just, was just fulfilling me.
55:29 And with, and that night I walked back there and I should have been sick.
55:35 I should, I should have been going through DTs and I didn't go through no DTs cause I
55:41 mean, it was like God calm the storm.
55:45 Now I did go back there and sleep for several days.
55:49 And it's, it's kind of like, uh, you know, he, he walked out of that ship and said, peace
55:54 be with you in the storm stop.
55:57 It's, it's like that was my burning bush moment.
56:01 You know what I'm saying?
56:02 That was my moment that, uh, turned me around and he calmed the waves, calmed the storm.
56:14 And, um, I was really new at this God thing.
56:20 And I was on fire, but not like I should have been.
56:26 You know what I'm saying?
56:27 Like I was loving me some Jesus, but at the same time, and, and then this guy walks, uh,
56:32 this guy that was my neighbor down the road, um, Lane Young, he was like, Hey man, there's
56:38 a walk to a mess.
56:39 I want to sponsor you to go on and I'm like, what's that?
56:43 He's like, it's God thing.
56:44 All right.
56:45 And he's like, you'll go over here for three days, like, but we're going to take you to
56:52 first and we're going to feed you real good cause you're not going to eat and like they,
56:56 I mean, I was like, I don't know, like I put Snickers and when I found that I had went
57:02 to the store and I'd put me some Snickers, I'd, I'd packed me some stuff and I'd got
57:06 them in my socks and they're like, I mean, and so we show up to this deal and all of
57:10 these people that are like hugging on me and like, it was just like, and I'm like, these
57:14 folks are weird.
57:15 Like, like, what the hell am I into right here?
57:19 And, and I told Bobby, I said, and they took myself on the way from me.
57:24 And I said, I'll beat you home.
57:28 And he was like, no, you're staying.
57:31 And by Friday evening, if you're not happy, I'll come get you.
57:36 I said, okay, I'll give you that.
57:39 Well, that rolled along.
57:42 And then we was, we was sitting in that deal and I'm not going to spoil if you ain't ever
57:48 been to a walk to a mess.
57:49 If you ever get a chance, go, any of y'all listeners, if you, if you ever get a chance
57:54 to go on a walk to a mess, just, just go is all I'm going to say.
57:59 But there was, there was one night that, that we walked over to the chapel and heard all
58:07 these people singing and, and it was a candlelight night.
58:12 That's all I'm going to say.
58:15 And there was a bit and spur maker in there and he had no clue who I was and I didn't,
58:21 and I didn't know what really a profit was or a, you know, receiving like when somebody
58:26 come and give you a word and I looked at him as he was crazy.
58:31 And I told him he was crazy.
58:33 And he said, you got one more trip in you and God's going to save you and it's going
58:39 to be intended for good and it won't harm you.
58:43 And I was like, man, dude, I just got off of a really bad trip.
58:46 I mean, I, so bad that I had my, like at one point in time, I had my couch up on top of
58:51 my house and I had not vision goggles and like people was coming to get me.
58:55 You know what I'm saying?
58:56 Yeah.
58:57 Like I'd been up for too many days and I'm like, man, I just got off a really bad trip
59:02 and his like, dude, God's going to do something great in your life.
59:06 And I'm like, man, I, I, I'm sitting here thinking I just barely survived this last
59:12 trip.
59:13 You know, what's this, what's this next trip going to look like?
59:17 You know what I mean?
59:19 And, um, and I was like, God, man, I don't want to, I don't want to have to go down this
59:23 ever again.
59:25 And, uh, so Sunday rolled around and they kept, and, and everybody come to pick me up and
59:31 I was like, I'm not ready, like, I'm, I'm, I'm enjoying where I'm at, like, like God's
59:36 doing a great thing right now.
59:38 And like, I'm loving this and like, y'all can go home, I'm going to spend another week
59:43 here.
59:44 And I was like, oh no, you can't.
59:45 And I'm like, okay.
59:46 So, uh, we went home and I got plugged in, uh, with the church and start, started doing
59:50 some youth stuff and started doing some other stuff.
59:54 And, uh, then I ended up getting married and, and, and that, that didn't work that, that
1:00:00 didn't work out.
1:00:01 Uh, we, we went our separate ways and, um, I was sober for seven years and 300 days.
1:00:07 And, uh, I'd, I'd been working on a ranch, quit that ranch job and, uh, I'd, I, there
1:00:16 was an old man that worked on one of my sewing machines named John Higden up there named
1:00:20 Rilla.
1:00:21 And, uh, I asked him, I said, you ever teach anybody to build boots and he was like, yeah,
1:00:28 but you got to find the equipment first.
1:00:29 And I was like, okay.
1:00:31 Well, I quit my ranch job.
1:00:34 And within about three hours, I found a boot shop for sale.
1:00:38 I had $3,000, I had, or lady one in $3,000, I had $3,000 in my pocket.
1:00:44 I was like, Hey, can I give you $28,000 so I can have a little money to live on and, and,
1:00:50 and, and, you know, and go from there.
1:00:52 And so I got this boot shop I called John.
1:00:54 I said, Hey, I'm ready to build boots, you know, and dude, it was just like it just all
1:01:01 lined up and the next thing, you know, uh, I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
1:01:07 Uh, didn't need to be living in town and had a water money in my pocket was due.
1:01:14 Like, um, I was set up for success because I knew I grew up in the cowboy world and grew
1:01:23 up in the, uh, like I knew everybody that wore boots.
1:01:28 You know what I'm saying?
1:01:29 Yeah.
1:01:30 And building boots was, uh, like everybody was starting to really wear custom boots.
1:01:35 And the next thing you know is, man, I had a wad full of pocket full of money.
1:01:40 And that was the world's worst thing for Brad Glenn to ever have.
1:01:44 And I was at the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up with a pocket full of dope
1:01:49 and it went downhill from there and it went downhill from there really quick.
1:01:55 I had all these boot orders and I was strung.
1:01:58 This thing, you know, as I was strung back out on dope and, um, and it, uh, it was, I
1:02:06 was just struggling in life and God disappeared.
1:02:12 No, let me, let me, let me rephrase that Brad made God disappear.
1:02:16 That's right.
1:02:17 Yeah.
1:02:18 It's, it's, uh, and, and you know, it's, he was right where I left him.
1:02:25 You know, sometimes you need to go turn around and go back to where, where you, where you
1:02:28 left him at and pick him up and put him back, getting back in your heart and walk off.
1:02:33 And, uh, and the next thing you know is, uh, man, I went through a really dark, deep hole.
1:02:42 I was, uh, engaged and that wasn't a good situation at all.
1:02:51 And, um, I was strung out on dope and I'd had enough of life and September 1 of, of,
1:03:01 of 2014, uh, I'd wrote a bunch of letters and I was, I'd had enough of it.
1:03:10 And I, there was about 20, 21 letters that I'd wrote, just short, sweet, telling you,
1:03:18 I love you telling you that, that man, I've, if I've harmed you, I'm sorry.
1:03:24 You know, just, just kind of leaving it as is and just saying my goodbyes and, um, had
1:03:35 a little six-seater pistol and had, had one, had one shell in it and I pulled in there
1:03:50 in the max fiance's house and Joanna Hughes was on the phone with the cops.
1:04:01 Jo was talking to me and I was pulling the trigger and that was gonna be the last place
1:04:09 I laid right then and there and I pulled the trigger eight times, six-seater pistol, one
1:04:16 shell in there.
1:04:20 People say I'm lucky and I'm just, here's where I'm at, I'm blessed.
1:04:26 The cops got a hold of me, took the gun from me, took me to Joanna in his house, dropped
1:04:35 me off.
1:04:36 Now, you have to understand there's probably an ounce of dope in my cup holder that should
1:04:46 have put me in jail, if not in jail, under jail, you know what I'm saying, like, they
1:04:51 didn't find, they didn't even search my pickup, they took the gun, they took me, locked my
1:04:58 truck up, took me to Joanna and Joanna's, dropped me off there, Jo grabbed the gun on
1:05:07 the night time the gun went off in his hand and he said, "God's not done with you yet."
1:05:15 I said, "Man, why, just why, like, why, Jo, why, why, like, like," and he said, "God saved
1:05:23 you and bro, it's, like, it's time that you get your crap together."
1:05:27 And I'm like, and dude, it's 26 days later, I ended up in a federal holding cell, looking
1:05:36 at 13 years, I mean, it was, I was on one of them dark, deep rabbit holes.
1:05:44 Once I went to get a rain and the dude told me, I was like, what, you know, he's like,
1:05:52 "Man, God's got this."
1:05:53 Well, that's the second time I'd heard that God's got this, and I just looked at him and
1:05:59 I said, "How the hell does God got this?"
1:06:00 You know what I mean?
1:06:01 Like, how does God got this?
1:06:03 He says, "Well, I've never dropped a federal charge down to a felony charge."
1:06:08 I said, "Well, that's good."
1:06:09 I said, "How are we going to get out of here?"
1:06:10 He said, "Well, I guess if you got 175,000 cash, that's, that's your bond."
1:06:14 Dude, I ain't even got seven cents to my name.
1:06:18 I ain't got 75 cents.
1:06:20 I ain't even got a dollar, like I am broke, busted, and disgusted.
1:06:24 Like it, this is, like, here, here I am, like, what, what, how do you think I'm going, like,
1:06:29 and he is like, you're not, and I'm like, "Man, you give me a bond reduction?"
1:06:35 And he says, "Nope, take him back," I'm like, "Okay, so now I got a felony charge instead
1:06:43 of a federal charge, which, okay, that's, you know, it's still a charge, you know what
1:06:47 I'm saying?"
1:06:48 Like, like, I don't know if that's good or if that's bad or it's, it's, it's, it's,
1:06:53 so I walk in there and they take me back to my cell and man, in this addiction right there
1:07:02 towards the very end, I was like, "God, I need it."
1:07:05 I need it out.
1:07:06 Like, like, my cousin, the day that I got arrested, was coming to pick me up at four
1:07:12 o'clock to take me to a plain view serenity center.
1:07:15 I'd been on the phone with him and God knew I wasn't going.
1:07:18 You know what I'm saying?
1:07:19 Yeah.
1:07:20 My, my, and my cousin was coming to get me, but he, he, good luck finding me.
1:07:23 You know what I'm saying?
1:07:24 Like it was, yeah, I was, I was ready to go, but I wasn't ready to go.
1:07:28 You know what I'm saying?
1:07:30 And so it was, it was one of them deals where God knew that he had to get me locked up to
1:07:37 get ahold of my attention.
1:07:40 There's been several times in life that God had to get ahold of me, kind of like the deal
1:07:44 with my wife.
1:07:45 I mean, it, it, it, it, it, like, like almost hit me in the back of the head with the bat.
1:07:51 You know what I'm saying?
1:07:54 And so, um, I walked back in that sale and I didn't have a, my, my dad, he pretty, he
1:08:01 just, I called him and I said, 75,000 cash and he says, good luck.
1:08:08 Man, my dad was always there for me.
1:08:10 My mom was always there for me every time that I needed anything or needed out of jail.
1:08:16 Guess what?
1:08:17 They bailed me out.
1:08:18 That's what they, you know, they thought they was helping me out.
1:08:23 And that last time was tough love and I called mom and she says, I love you son, my dad,
1:08:34 he said, I love you, but I can't, he says, let me know what, just keep me in, keep in
1:08:40 touch with me.
1:08:43 And I'm like, for somebody to love their son so much and tell them no.
1:08:51 And I walked back in that jail in that sale and it was pretty much like an honorable voice.
1:08:59 I mean, it, it seemed like it was as loud as that.
1:09:01 It was like asking you shall receive.
1:09:03 It's like, okay, I even asked him if he had helped me get a lawyer.
1:09:10 He wasn't helping me get a lawyer.
1:09:12 He was like, he was like, call this deal was done.
1:09:16 Like it was, I, I, it, it had run his course and he had finally.
1:09:20 He had to say no and that was the greatest thing ever, him saying no.
1:09:26 Because from that day, I'd always had them enabling me.
1:09:34 And if there's any parents out there right now that's going through, that's got people
1:09:38 going through this or got loved ones going through this, the, the worst thing you can
1:09:42 do is give them money.
1:09:43 It's all right to feed them, it's all right to give them, give them some food.
1:09:51 But don't give them money or don't give them stuff that they can go return because I could
1:09:56 people would buy me stuff and I could go back and return it for Walmart and get me some,
1:10:00 get me some dope money.
1:10:01 You know what I'm saying?
1:10:02 Yeah.
1:10:03 And so it was one of them deals where he said, man, I love you, but you're gonna have to figure
1:10:08 this one out.
1:10:09 And he said, and I don't know what this looks like, Brad.
1:10:12 He said, I'll always be here for you and I'll always love you, but I'm done.
1:10:19 And I'd never heard my dad tell me he was done.
1:10:22 I knew that that was always a phone call that I could make and it was always there.
1:10:28 And little did I know God was working in the background and I went up there and asked that
1:10:37 jailer if I could get a quarter point of the lawyer deal and he said, yeah, I can.
1:10:40 He says, but good luck.
1:10:41 He says, it's gonna take six months before you ever hear from, hear from one.
1:10:45 And I was like, okay, you know, all I got is time.
1:10:48 I mean, I'm three, three squares a day.
1:10:51 Here we are.
1:10:52 You know, and, and so I filled out a deal, got a quarter of a, like three or four days
1:10:58 went by, got a phone call from a lawyer said, Hey, man, there's something in this right
1:11:05 here.
1:11:06 So what's up, I said, man, I, I'm ate up with drugs.
1:11:11 I made up with alcohol.
1:11:13 Like I need, I want some help, but I want help that's going to keep me from ever going
1:11:19 back.
1:11:20 You know what I'm saying?
1:11:21 Like I've done these, these 30 day programs and, and, and man, 30 days is a slap on the
1:11:26 wrist.
1:11:27 You know what I'm saying?
1:11:28 It never did me any good is where that's at.
1:11:31 And he has like, okay, and my, my ex-sister and lawyer was interviewing with beaten bow
1:11:42 homes and at the time, and he was, which Ron Beaten bow also went to church where my mom
1:11:51 and dad went to church.
1:11:53 And so they kind of all knew at one another and he, he asked her, he said, so I want to
1:11:57 know about you, I want to know about your family because beaten bow homes is a very great
1:12:03 family business.
1:12:06 And she told them all about everything and he knew that, or she, he knew that she had
1:12:13 a brother in law and she's like, well, I got a brother in law, but we're not going to talk
1:12:18 about him.
1:12:19 He's got, he's in jail and he's got drug problems and alcohol problems.
1:12:24 And he says, no, that's the one I want to talk about.
1:12:30 And Ron Beaten bow was a big supporter at Teen Challenge in middle in Texas.
1:12:37 Ron passed away, I think year, year two ago, I don't remember, time gets away from me real
1:12:43 quick, really bad, but he was a big supporter there and he, and he knew, knew my parents
1:12:51 real well at the church and, um, this is how God works.
1:12:58 So my lawyer and Ron were college roommates.
1:13:03 Okay.
1:13:05 And, and so, so going back to when I showed up at Joe's house in the back of the cop car,
1:13:15 they had the pistol, the gun went off and Joe's hand, it didn't go off in my hand.
1:13:20 That really did start, like, I mean, this is starting to come together.
1:13:24 You know what I'm saying?
1:13:25 This is, this is God really is working if I could just step out of the way because he's
1:13:31 greater than I and, um, so, uh, he was like, well, does he got a lawyer?
1:13:40 And at that time, Chris was like, yeah, you know, I think so.
1:13:45 And they, they found out who my lawyer was and Ron was like, well, that's my college
1:13:48 roommate.
1:13:49 And so he calls Ron and like that, that lawyer didn't, we didn't know the connection at first.
1:13:58 You know what I'm saying?
1:13:59 Yeah.
1:14:00 And then it, it just all started coming together and that jailer told me, good luck.
1:14:05 It's going to be six months.
1:14:06 And I'm like, I don't, you know, I'm going to be here for a while.
1:14:10 And, uh, God can fix something in a second that we can scroll up in a lifetime.
1:14:17 And it's, it's, it's kind of goes back to that whole deal with me and hope.
1:14:22 I tore, tore a lot of stuff up and he, and he says, here, let me make it whole again.
1:14:28 But the whole big deal is submitting.
1:14:31 That's the key in all this.
1:14:35 And so I'm sitting in jail and I'm like, okay, God, here I am.
1:14:40 Don't let me leave here until you're ready to start until I'm ready to start putting
1:14:46 all this back together, get every wild hair out of me, get everything out of me.
1:14:50 Like I, I, I'm ready to submit.
1:14:54 And, uh, so Ron called my lawyer and my, my lawyer and all of them started talking and
1:15:00 they called, and, and my lawyer called me and was like, Hey man, you got an opportunity
1:15:04 to go to the teen challenge and I'm like, what's the teen challenge?
1:15:07 You know, I'm 33 years old.
1:15:09 I'm not going to, to, to a place for, for, uh, for, for teenagers.
1:15:15 You know what I'm saying?
1:15:16 Like that's, that's not who I am.
1:15:19 And, um, he's like, I was like, dude, whatever, I just, I won't help.
1:15:27 And I don't want to go to a, like, I want to go somewhere where it's all about Jesus.
1:15:35 And, uh, he said, okay, let me see what I can do.
1:15:39 So that lawyer and Ron and, and, and brother David Day and the, the judge all got together
1:15:46 and they was, they gave me the chance.
1:15:48 So I ended up getting deferred adjudification on a seven year probation or no five, five
1:15:53 years probation got the chance to go to teen challenge.
1:15:57 And at this point in time, I'm like, man, God really does, like God's got this.
1:16:03 And so I bought, or I got released, uh, to my parents, my parents come and got me, um,
1:16:10 out of, out of jail and, uh, stayed with them for a couple of days at in Lubbock.
1:16:17 And then they took me on to teen challenge.
1:16:20 And in the process of all this, it's, um, well, teen challenge is at middle in Texas.
1:16:30 And it is as far south as you can go on cotton flat road.
1:16:38 And when we pulled up, it looked like the compound.
1:16:41 Not only did it look like the compound, but you know, Jesus, Ron, uh, was in the desert
1:16:45 for 40 days.
1:16:46 And it's like, this is the desert and I've got 15 months here.
1:16:53 And the joke was when we pulled up, there's a sign that says sin stops here.
1:16:58 And I told dad, I said, I got to get out.
1:17:01 And he said, what do you mean?
1:17:02 I said, I can't, I'm breaking eight up with it.
1:17:05 You know, and, uh, so we pull up and I get all my stuff out and all these guys come running
1:17:15 up to me and just like joyful and I'm like, I, I've got a little joy in me, but I really
1:17:23 don't.
1:17:24 You know what I'm saying?
1:17:25 What have I just got myself into?
1:17:29 You know what I'm saying?
1:17:30 Like it's like, it's real now, like I'm, I'm here and I'm here for the next 15 months.
1:17:34 And I walk in the building and brother David Day, he's about six, six and he's big old
1:17:39 burly dude.
1:17:43 And he said, are you Brad Glenn?
1:17:44 I said, yes, sir.
1:17:45 I am.
1:17:46 He gives you gives, just gives me a big old hug.
1:17:48 And he says, I love you, son.
1:17:50 He says, are you ready?
1:17:53 And I said, first of all, you don't even know who I am.
1:17:55 How do you know?
1:17:56 How do you know you love me?
1:17:59 And he said, cause God called you here.
1:18:03 And he said, I'm supposed to love like Jesus loves.
1:18:05 And I was like, wow, you know, like you're taking a chance on a drug addict, a dude that's
1:18:12 got charges, a dude that has pretty much done anything and everything under the sun.
1:18:19 You don't even, you've, you've known me for three seconds.
1:18:22 And you want to give me the biggest, like, like I felt like that was Jesus just wrapping
1:18:28 his arms around me and just giving me a big old hug.
1:18:31 And it was like, I just kind of melted in his arms and it was like, he's like, are you
1:18:35 ready for this?
1:18:36 And I was like, let's try it.
1:18:38 Like what do we got to lose?
1:18:42 And he said, you're going to love Jesus before then.
1:18:44 He says, Jesus is just fishing just be all over this deal.
1:18:48 And I'm like, all right.
1:18:49 Perfect.
1:18:50 Let's try it.
1:18:53 Well, I sat in his office, filling out the paperwork and God told me 11 months.
1:18:56 And I was like, what's 11 months?
1:18:58 You know what I'm saying?
1:18:59 Like, well, what, what, like I'm here 15 months, like what are you trying to, like I've got
1:19:03 a boot shop that is like, people are like waiting on their boots.
1:19:07 Like, I mean, I had like 86 orders to fulfill and nobody knew pretty much nobody knew where
1:19:16 I went.
1:19:17 I just kind of, I was gone.
1:19:19 You know what I'm saying?
1:19:20 And my dad, my mom and dad and cousin and kind of let everybody know.
1:19:26 And you know, most everybody was like, Hey, as long as he's good, like we're okay.
1:19:34 There was there was a couple of them that was like, I need my money back.
1:19:36 You know what?
1:19:37 And, and it is what it is.
1:19:40 You know what I'm saying?
1:19:41 But most of them was truly concerned about how Brad Glenn was, you know what I'm saying?
1:19:46 And so we rocked, we rocked along there and man, God just started doing amazing things.
1:19:53 And then the next thing you know is one day I was sitting up there at the altar and God
1:19:58 said, you've got a ministry.
1:20:00 And I'm like, what is that ministry?
1:20:04 And he's like, your boot shop is a ministry.
1:20:07 Every pair of boots, excuse me, has Psalms 119, 105, I'm a lamp to your feet a lot to
1:20:13 your pathway.
1:20:14 You ain't going to see that scripture in your boot because it's in between the soul
1:20:18 and the mid soul on a piece of filler, scrap, chapped leather.
1:20:22 And I just take a sharpie and I just write it in every pair said, God bless these feet.
1:20:28 That was the first thing that he gave me.
1:20:31 Because you're working, walking on the word of God, that word of God is your feet absorb
1:20:39 so many things.
1:20:43 And then he told me, he says, you look down into a dark deep hole every morning, you put
1:20:50 your boots on.
1:20:53 And in the back of every boot, there's a cross and there's a scripture.
1:20:58 And the scripture either comes to me when I'm first start making them or at the very end
1:21:02 or you know, I used to not let people tell me what scriptures they wanted in their boots.
1:21:10 And I was like, that's fine.
1:21:13 And so now people will walk in and be like, Hey, I want this scripture in there, but I
1:21:17 still put my scripture in there somewhere in there.
1:21:20 And so it's, so now the word of God's in there, lighting up that dark deep hole as you're putting
1:21:27 your feet in there, and it's kind of like goes, goes back to Ephesia and putting on the full
1:21:32 arm of God, you're putting a piece on your, you're putting peace on your feet.
1:21:35 You know what I'm saying?
1:21:36 You're, you're, you're, you're strapping the, the, the piece on, on your feet now.
1:21:41 And you know, I've had a lot of people walk in and say, I don't want the crossword of
1:21:47 the scripture in your boots.
1:21:49 And I don't build their boots.
1:21:50 Yeah.
1:21:51 Like I'm, I'm sorry.
1:21:52 I did it.
1:21:53 I was like Peter.
1:21:54 I denied Christ more than three times.
1:21:55 I did not cross for 33 years.
1:21:57 If you want, and you know what I'm saying?
1:22:00 And I've done it here in the past here lately.
1:22:02 You know what I'm saying?
1:22:03 It's, it's like when, when, when I moved my business above my wife, that's denying Christ.
1:22:10 You know what I'm saying?
1:22:11 And it's like, I said, I would never deny Christ again.
1:22:13 But when I put my business over my wife, that's, that's denying Christ.
1:22:16 I mean, cause uh, your body is Christ.
1:22:19 You know what I'm saying?
1:22:20 So like I had to go in there and, uh, I said I would never deny.
1:22:27 And I've had people walk in and say, man, I don't want that like I don't want to cross
1:22:31 the scripture.
1:22:32 I'm not your guy.
1:22:34 And they're like, you're going to give up $2,000.
1:22:37 Sure am.
1:22:38 Cause I've seen God when I've denied Christ or I've, I've seen God when I say no, when
1:22:44 I say no to that, it's, it's, he's got a sense humor, a big sense of humor.
1:22:50 It usually it's when you deny one, when you tell one, you know, and then you got five
1:22:54 more pair coming.
1:22:55 You got five people kept walking in and say, Hey, I'm here.
1:22:58 I'm ready for a pair of boots.
1:22:59 I've heard your story.
1:23:03 I want a pair of boots like, like, you know, that's, that's where I'm at.
1:23:07 And so, uh, we, uh, so that, that's where the cross in the scripture and the Psalms
1:23:14 119 105 and, and that's how my ministry come.
1:23:18 Uh, and then I started, um, I just, every time I'd feel something come up, I, I, when
1:23:24 I was in teen challenge God, like God did, God did such, such great things.
1:23:30 And I got to go home on a, on a, on a furlough and, um, went to my brother's house for, um,
1:23:40 my nephew's birthday party and, um, before I went to teen challenge, I went and helped
1:23:49 my brother put on a water tank and then there was this girl in there in his, or in the office
1:23:58 where he worked and she is listening to some Christian music, good Godly girl, beautiful.
1:24:05 And my brother introduced her to me.
1:24:08 Her name was Hope and, uh, I just told him, I said, we got done, I said, I'm gonna marry
1:24:15 her.
1:24:16 And he looked over at me and I was still strung out on, on, on drugs.
1:24:23 This was before I got caught up and he said, you better get your [inaudible] together if you're
1:24:28 going to do that.
1:24:29 He said, she's a good girl and you need to stay away from her.
1:24:33 All right.
1:24:35 So I got, I went to teen challenge, come home for my, for, for my nephew's birthday party.
1:24:45 Here comes Hope walking in.
1:24:48 I said, Hey Hope, how are you?
1:24:50 And she's like, who are you?
1:24:53 And I told her who I was and she's like, you don't even look the same.
1:24:57 Well, I was eight up with drugs and alcohol, had my eye sunk in the back of my head.
1:25:03 So God, so here's another way of God's really working on things, you know, and I've always
1:25:08 prayed for a good God, or I always wanted a good Godly wife because, uh, I knew that if
1:25:14 I didn't have somebody godly or somebody that loved Jesus, it wasn't going to work for me
1:25:20 because I was one of them ones that I needed to be all in or it wasn't, you know what I'm
1:25:25 saying?
1:25:26 Like, and, uh, didn't need anybody that drank or wanted to go to the bar or, uh, want like
1:25:32 that was, that was out of my, I knew, I knew real good, really good that I did not need
1:25:38 anybody that, that drink because I was going to go back to where I was.
1:25:44 And she's like, wow, I didn't even recognize you.
1:25:46 And so I ended up going back to Teen Challenge.
1:25:50 Uh, God started putting me, started putting her on my heart, coming to find out.
1:25:54 She started, uh, started praying for me and she, uh, it was just kind of one of them deals
1:26:02 where, um, it was, and we didn't see each other until I got out.
1:26:10 You know what I'm saying?
1:26:12 And then, uh, four days shy of 11 months, they called me in the office at Teen Challenge
1:26:20 and it was like, Hey, your grandmother just passed away.
1:26:23 Um, we need to talk to you and I was like, okay.
1:26:27 And then it was like, Hey, we know we've heard about your boot shop.
1:26:31 If we've seen this, this and this we, we, we think it's time for you to go home and start
1:26:40 on your boot shop.
1:26:42 And then you come back two times a month on a Friday for a praise in and, and hang out
1:26:49 with us and, and just we being, you, you do, we do it communication on us.
1:26:57 Okay.
1:26:58 That'll work.
1:26:59 Um, I, I got, when I, my mom and dad on cactus alley courtyard at the time and, uh, they had
1:27:06 one spot available and, um, it was spot number eight and, uh, that's new beginnings.
1:27:17 And, uh, so I, I went back, started my boot shop and literally, um, I called my probation
1:27:29 officer told her told her I was back in town and she was like, Hey Brad, I need you to come
1:27:34 see me.
1:27:35 And I was like, okay, I, you know, is everything all right?
1:27:39 She's like, yeah, it's all good.
1:27:41 And I said, just, if I need a driver, would you please tell me?
1:27:49 So I, I, my parents have been through enough.
1:27:52 Like I don't want them to have to come to Amarillo and pick up my truck because I got
1:27:55 thrown in jail and she's like, no, it's all good, but I need you to come to Amarillo.
1:27:58 And I said, okay.
1:27:59 So I drove up there and seen her and she was like, Hey, $517 is what you owe.
1:28:06 And, uh, if you can pay that your rest record, your, uh, it, it's all, it's all dropped.
1:28:16 Like it's, it's done.
1:28:19 And I just, part of me was like, I was set up, you know what I'm saying?
1:28:27 But then I go back and I look from the day September one till now.
1:28:34 And it really did have all this.
1:28:36 You know what I'm saying?
1:28:37 Like it, it just, it just kept lining up and kept lining up and kept lining up.
1:28:41 And then, and then God just kept doing miracle after miracle and just, just, uh, you know,
1:28:46 and, and, but here was the biggest deal about this whole deal, Kyle, is that potter wheel.
1:28:54 You know, where they talk about putting you on there and starting to mold you.
1:28:58 And when I finally submitted and got on that potter wheel and started letting him, letting
1:29:04 him mold me and make me who he called me to be, that's when things started changing.
1:29:10 That's when my life started changing.
1:29:11 That's when miracles really started happening.
1:29:15 And then the next thing you know, it was, uh, um, and God just really started doing some
1:29:23 things.
1:29:24 And then I met hope again afterwards, I asked her on the date and then, uh, next thing you
1:29:32 know is we got engaged and now the now all my spiritual, um, dads had a really good joke
1:29:41 about now there really is hope in Brad.
1:29:44 That's right.
1:29:45 And so, so now, so now that the joke is, is, is, is a really is hope in Brad.
1:29:55 And, uh, so, uh, we got married and, uh, we got one son together, uh, we got, and she
1:30:00 had two boys that, uh, are, are, are just like mine.
1:30:05 I mean, it's, it's, it's pretty cool that how, how we all, um, you know, there, there's
1:30:12 been some rough times because I've been some, I've been a hard butt, you know, and I've
1:30:16 had to, I've had to tell them, Hey man, guys, I'm sorry, like I'm sorry for, for, for the
1:30:21 guy that I've been, you know what I'm saying?
1:30:23 And I've still got some, some apologizing to do.
1:30:26 You know what I'm saying?
1:30:27 And I've still got a lot of love and to do, uh, because I'm not that person who God called
1:30:32 me out of.
1:30:33 I don't have that anger.
1:30:34 I don't have that bitterness.
1:30:35 I don't have that rage.
1:30:36 Uh, and, you know, and, and, and now I've got it towards bow back in line and that in the
1:30:41 way it goes, it's God, then you're off in your kids and then, and, and then your job.
1:30:45 You know what I'm saying?
1:30:46 And, and, and.
1:30:47 Brad, let me actually ask you about that because I forget who said the quote originally,
1:30:53 but you can never connect the dots looking forward only looking backwards.
1:30:57 Yes.
1:30:58 And so you just kind of weaved us through years and years of your life as you were talking.
1:31:04 I was thinking about, you know, I'll read in Genesis cause we studied that on the, we're
1:31:08 studying that on forging table, read through acts.
1:31:11 And it's like there may be years that pass by and it's like a paragraph in, in one of
1:31:17 those books or something like that.
1:31:18 And dude, there's, there's meals there.
1:31:20 There's bad days.
1:31:21 There's good days.
1:31:22 There's indigestion.
1:31:23 There's, there's all kinds of stuff that happened in that time period, but the highlight
1:31:27 is, is this is all you need.
1:31:29 This is all that God wants to show you.
1:31:31 And so it's one thing for you to be here now, sitting in my studio and recounting all of
1:31:37 that, which was really interesting to see and to see how God's working because even
1:31:41 as you're describing it, I'm like, I'm seeing God all over this thing, like orchestrating,
1:31:46 but when you're in it, like people are like, Hey, you're either going into the valley,
1:31:52 you're coming out of the valley, or you're in the valley.
1:31:54 Right?
1:31:55 Yeah.
1:31:56 That's it.
1:31:57 There's only options, but the thing about Psalm 23 is it's not, it's not that God delivers
1:32:04 you out of the valley.
1:32:05 He just, you know, teleport you out of it.
1:32:06 It's that he's there with you when you're in the valley.
1:32:08 Yes, sir.
1:32:09 But when you're in the valley, you can't really see that though, like you can see through
1:32:14 the class dimly kind of a thing.
1:32:16 And so I'm just curious for you, because again, there are guys right now that are in the
1:32:19 valley right now that are listening to this.
1:32:23 And when you hear this story about someone that's come out on the other side and they've
1:32:26 still got their issues, they've got their scars, they've got all that.
1:32:30 And but they're, they're glorifying God for what he's done.
1:32:33 It's hard for them to really accept that for themselves, right?
1:32:37 Yes.
1:32:38 Cause it's easy to look at someone else's life, someone else's testimony, someone else's YouTube,
1:32:42 you know, video, someone else's, you know, presenting or something like that to be like,
1:32:45 okay, well, that's good for them, right?
1:32:47 Right.
1:32:48 But God, what about me?
1:32:49 And so like, what would you say somebody that's in it now, right?
1:32:53 Maybe not as far deep in the same flavor that you had, you know, maybe they don't have
1:32:58 the six shooter that goes off on the ninth, you know, pool or something like that.
1:33:02 But like, what would you say to that person that they just can't see God in it now?
1:33:06 Well, I look at it like this.
1:33:09 If he's going to take care of the, the birds and the bees, and he's going to feed them,
1:33:16 he's going to feed you and he's got you.
1:33:20 But there was days that I took 10 step forwards and I got knocked back 12 steps.
1:33:27 But I didn't ever, those, those was, if you can't pass the class, you're not going to
1:33:33 go to the next step.
1:33:34 You know what I'm saying?
1:33:35 Yeah.
1:33:36 And, and you may get knocked back, but it's like this.
1:33:41 Are you going to keep, do you got enough grit to keep going?
1:33:46 Or are you going to lay down and give up?
1:33:49 And, and here's what I got to say.
1:33:51 It may not be pretty right now, like it may, it may be as bad as it can get.
1:34:00 But I promise you, if you'll keep stepping and you'll keep walking and you'll just, man,
1:34:06 it may be a four, just a, just enough to keep a forward motion and you may get knocked all
1:34:11 the way back to the very beginning.
1:34:14 But was you called to lay there or what did he, or it's kind of like that, that guy on
1:34:20 the mat, he told him to get up.
1:34:23 And I'm going to tell you right now, if, if you're in the valley and you're going through
1:34:28 it, get up, just get up every morning.
1:34:33 That's all it takes.
1:34:34 Cause I can remember when I was about a month into Teen Challenge and I hated myself, like
1:34:40 I, I couldn't be alone in the same room with myself.
1:34:44 Like I couldn't, like I had to have somebody there, you know what I'm saying, Kyle?
1:34:48 Yeah.
1:34:49 Like it was like, and I walked in on, I walked in one morning and, and there's four sinks
1:34:54 in that bathroom and I looked in the mirror and I said, I love you.
1:35:02 And I was talking to myself, but until I could truly love myself, I couldn't love anybody
1:35:08 else.
1:35:09 And I couldn't keep going.
1:35:10 And I, and it's like you got to, you got to be all right with yourself.
1:35:13 You got to become okay with being okay with who you are and who you are in Christ.
1:35:20 Because when you know, when you finally get your identity and you know who you are, you
1:35:24 can put your chest out and you can walk boldly and you can't love your neighbor as yourself
1:35:29 if you hate yourself.
1:35:30 You're exactly right.
1:35:32 But with these guys that are going through it, if you're going through it right now, keep
1:35:37 going.
1:35:38 Well, and this, this is what I would say.
1:35:39 I'd say this to people all the time and I keep repeating it because you know how it
1:35:43 goes.
1:35:44 You've heard something a million times, but for whatever reason, the million and first
1:35:47 time is the time where you get it.
1:35:48 I tell guys the strength is nice.
1:35:51 Resilience is better.
1:35:52 Okay.
1:35:53 Because no matter what, strength will wane depending on circumstances, father time getting
1:35:58 involved, whatever strength is going to wane, but resilience, grit, becoming shatterproof,
1:36:04 like whatever your modality, how you describe it, I just use the word resilience.
1:36:08 That's the ability to bounce back and that's the ability to keep that forward motion, even
1:36:12 if it's only a quarter of an inch, right?
1:36:15 And a lot of guys, they get wrapped around the axle about being strong, whether that's
1:36:19 physically strong, mentally strong, oh, I'm going to get in this ice cold water and that's
1:36:23 going to make me hard and make me strong.
1:36:26 And yeah, you're, you know, anterior mid singular cortex in your brain only grows if you do
1:36:31 something that you definitely don't want to do and you keep getting in that cold water
1:36:35 and you keep doing those burpees and you keep going back to jujitsu and you keep facing the
1:36:40 demons at work or whatever the thing is, but guys, eventually your strength will wane.
1:36:46 It is a guarantee.
1:36:47 It's not a guess, but your ability to bounce back and your ability to push through, that
1:36:52 is what makes the difference, right?
1:36:54 Whether you're talking spiritually, mentally or physically, because when we talk about
1:36:57 cultivating spiritual mental and physical resilience, all of those words have meaning.
1:37:02 Yes, sir.
1:37:03 You're cultivating it.
1:37:04 That doesn't mean you get it as a gift.
1:37:05 It can't be, you know, imbued onto you.
1:37:08 You have to cultivate it, you have to do it, right?
1:37:11 Spiritual mental physical.
1:37:12 If you're crushing it in those three categories, everything else tends to fall in line, financial,
1:37:16 relational, all those different things and resilience over strength.
1:37:20 That's the entire point because you can cultivate strength in all those areas, but it becomes
1:37:25 foolish when you realize that that strength can go away in an instant.
1:37:29 You build your entire life around deadlift.
1:37:31 Okay.
1:37:32 So you can deadlift 800 pounds and you go to these competitions and you throw on a wrestling
1:37:36 singlet for whatever reason, you throw on your big belt and you're in everything and
1:37:40 then you go in there and you lift all the weight in the world.
1:37:42 Great.
1:37:43 You get in a car accident.
1:37:44 Now you're a paraplegic.
1:37:45 Yes, sir.
1:37:46 Okay.
1:37:47 That strength is gone, barring some sort of medical intervention or some sort of crazy
1:37:53 healing moment, you are never going to put your hands on a barbell and lift it off the
1:37:57 ground again, especially not with 800 pounds on it.
1:38:01 So now what?
1:38:02 Do you just lay down in the valley?
1:38:03 No.
1:38:04 Right.
1:38:05 In the valley, you won't, the valley only defeats you if you stay there.
1:38:09 If you lay down and you're like, like, that's, I feel like too many people give up, Kyle.
1:38:13 Oh my God.
1:38:14 I mean, it's like, like, I'm, I'm sorry, I got too much bulldog in me.
1:38:18 Like it's, it's, it's like, it's, it's like this, it's, um, you can plant the seed, but
1:38:26 if you don't water it, and when I'm talking about watering, I'm not talking about pouring
1:38:31 water on it.
1:38:32 I'm talking about reading the word of God, I'm talking about being like the church is
1:38:37 right here.
1:38:38 Like, like, when, when I talk about the church, the church is us.
1:38:42 Like, yeah, there, there's, there's church buildings all around.
1:38:46 You know what I'm saying?
1:38:47 But like we are the church.
1:38:51 We take it outside.
1:38:52 You know what I mean?
1:38:54 And I feel like if, uh, you're, you're down there in that valley and you're either water,
1:39:01 you're either the, you're either watering it with spiritual growth or you're feeding your
1:39:08 demons.
1:39:09 Right.
1:39:10 And they'll both get big.
1:39:11 Yeah.
1:39:12 Yeah.
1:39:13 They, they'll both, I mean, you'll, you'll have a monster of two, two different things.
1:39:16 You know what I'm saying?
1:39:17 Like, that's, that's what I tell people all the time.
1:39:19 Like I'm, we have a program through undontalife called dominion.
1:39:22 This is a coaching program that you have to apply for and, you know, the whole nine yards.
1:39:26 And I've got guys that I'm actually helping them walk through what it means to cultivate
1:39:30 spiritual, mental and physical resilience on a daily basis.
1:39:34 What it means to push back darkness inside their households, inside their place of business,
1:39:37 inside their church, inside their community, inside their city, whatever that thing is.
1:39:41 I'm helping them, you know, basically holding their hand and doing that type of thing.
1:39:45 But that's what the dominion mandate going back to the garden is work is not a curse.
1:39:51 It became a curse when sin entered in there was work occurring before the fall, ladies
1:39:56 and gentlemen, like this, this theology that, you know, work is this cursed thing.
1:40:00 You know, it became cursed because Eve took a buy the apple while Adam was just sitting
1:40:04 there with the thumb up his butt, apparently.
1:40:06 And so that's the big thing for most people is they don't realize that, look, you don't
1:40:10 just have a hand in this, like you have to be the hand that moves, you can't take dominion,
1:40:15 you can't cultivate, you can't have that dominion mandate.
1:40:19 If you're not doing something, like, imagine me getting on a call with somebody once a
1:40:23 month and it's, I'm, I'm just telling them the same thing over and over.
1:40:26 How foolish would that be?
1:40:27 It's like, you know what you need to do at some point, you got to get up and do it, right?
1:40:31 And that's not this, that's not some sort of Western machismo, you know, pull yourself
1:40:35 up by your bootstraps type of, like raw raw speech.
1:40:38 It's reality.
1:40:39 Right.
1:40:40 I can't pick you up in the valley.
1:40:42 Now I can shoulder some of the weight for you, right?
1:40:46 Yeah.
1:40:47 You know, the mat toaters that we see in the Bible that like, you know, destroyed someone's
1:40:51 property by making a hole in the roof and lowering their friend down, right?
1:40:55 Yeah.
1:40:56 You could've willingly gotten off the mat.
1:40:59 He could have rolled himself off that mat.
1:41:00 They didn't take him there against his will.
1:41:02 They just helped shoulder some of the burden.
1:41:04 Okay.
1:41:05 So some of you guys need to get over yourself and allow your friends to be a part of your
1:41:09 life, to be a part of your process, allow people into your foxhole.
1:41:12 If you don't have guys like that, you need to create some guys like that.
1:41:16 You need to create an environment in your life and in their lives that is conducive to
1:41:19 win.
1:41:20 Do you know what hits the fan or when the atomic bomb goes off in your life?
1:41:24 You're not just sitting down there in the valley.
1:41:26 You know, I got a good group of guys.
1:41:28 I got a really good group of guys that that's there.
1:41:31 I call them my spiritual fathers and it don't matter what time of day I call.
1:41:38 They're going to answer or they're going to shoot me a text and you know, the hardest
1:41:44 part of change is the first step being bold enough to say, I can't do this, but I want
1:41:55 to do it.
1:41:57 Here I am and you know, it's kind of like I'll probably take some backlash for this, but
1:42:05 I really don't care.
1:42:06 Let's go.
1:42:07 Let's go.
1:42:08 I really don't.
1:42:09 It's, it's like this 12 steps a in a, you know, it's, it's, it's great for some people,
1:42:19 but I took one step and that one step saved my life and it changed my life and it, and
1:42:26 it, and it, and that was the only step that I took.
1:42:30 I don't need to go tell people I'm an alcoholic and a drug addict because I'm not, that's not
1:42:37 what I am.
1:42:38 I'm a child of God, you know what I'm saying?
1:42:40 And at the end of the day, it's, um, I call them Christian Eorze.
1:42:44 You know what I mean?
1:42:45 All life so bad, and you know what life ain't so bad.
1:42:49 It's as bad as you make it, but at the end of the day and at the beginning of the day,
1:42:54 what is your day going to be like?
1:42:56 You know, are you going to walk out of it?
1:42:58 It's kind of like this.
1:43:01 There was a scripture in, in, in Proverbs where it talks about a dog returning to his
1:43:05 vomit.
1:43:06 Mm hmm.
1:43:07 I've never threw up a good smell.
1:43:09 Yeah.
1:43:10 Yeah, you know what I'm saying or I've never been around somebody that's throwing up roses.
1:43:16 You know what I'm saying?
1:43:17 It's usually stinks and it's miserable and it's gross.
1:43:26 And I look at that like my past, I can sit over here and wall around in it and start smelling
1:43:36 like it even worse or I can do what God's called me to do, pick up my mat and go.
1:43:41 And here's the thing, and this is a reality.
1:43:45 The gun should have gone off.
1:43:46 Yeah, it did.
1:43:47 And it's not, I wasn't lucky.
1:43:49 Right.
1:43:50 Yeah, there's, there is luck that was, that wasn't that and you're not the only person
1:43:57 I know that's had that exact experience.
1:43:59 They've never had a misfire on that particular weapon system until the moment they tried
1:44:03 to use it to end their life.
1:44:05 And at that point, that's not a hint that God's not done with you.
1:44:09 Right.
1:44:10 Okay.
1:44:11 So to those of you, I had a guy the other day, send me an email and Brad, I get, I get
1:44:14 some of the heaviest emails and DMs from guys.
1:44:19 It's, I don't, I don't lament it because some of these guys, they feel like they know me
1:44:26 because they listened to the show and that's fine, but they don't have anybody else.
1:44:29 They connected.
1:44:30 Yeah, they connected to something I said, so they send me this thing and they just submit
1:44:34 to whatever.
1:44:35 This guy basically says, I don't have a point anymore.
1:44:40 There's just no point.
1:44:42 And this was kind of a pseudo cry for help kind of thing.
1:44:46 But the funny thing about Brad, when most people reach out to me, they don't expect me
1:44:49 to respond.
1:44:50 Right.
1:44:51 When they DM me on Instagram or when they send me an email through my website, they don't
1:44:53 expect a response from me.
1:44:55 So just the fact that I respond, which is why I respond to everything I get, I don't,
1:44:59 I don't let anything just lie unless it's insane.
1:45:03 But when I, when I told this guy what he was probably expecting is, no, it's okay.
1:45:07 Life's going to be fine.
1:45:08 And blah, blah.
1:45:09 I was like, brother, what did you expect life to be easy?
1:45:13 Life is struggle, right?
1:45:15 Yeah.
1:45:16 But you are called to the struggle.
1:45:18 You're still here.
1:45:19 So your struggle is not done.
1:45:21 So pick up your mat.
1:45:23 Yeah.
1:45:24 Like we got to go.
1:45:25 Yeah.
1:45:26 And he sent me another thing back.
1:45:27 And then I sent him another thing back with the same tone.
1:45:29 And I wasn't calling him out.
1:45:30 I was calling him up.
1:45:31 Yeah.
1:45:32 He sent him a hand up to be like brother because his thing was kind of like yours.
1:45:36 He had put safety and security.
1:45:39 So his job, right, his business above everything else in his life.
1:45:42 Okay.
1:45:43 I got to take care of safety and security.
1:45:44 And then everything else will cling back into place.
1:45:46 That's what the world tells you to do.
1:45:47 That's what Dorks on the internet will tell you to do.
1:45:49 That's what business coaches will tell you to do, even though it's completely like Bass
1:45:53 Accords, right?
1:45:54 But I told him, Hey, so let's say you build up the safety and security, but then you have
1:45:59 no one to be safe nor secure with.
1:46:03 Is that the plan?
1:46:04 Is that the plan?
1:46:05 Yeah.
1:46:06 To have so much money that no call or letter from the IRS is going to ruin your day, but
1:46:12 you don't have anyone to share that, that lake house with.
1:46:15 You don't have anyone to share that vehicle with to go just take a ride around.
1:46:19 You don't have anyone to go to dinner with you to the nice restaurant.
1:46:22 Is that the point?
1:46:23 No.
1:46:24 And then it's like brother, you're lamenting the struggle.
1:46:26 The struggles, what got you here, right struggles, not bad struggle is incumbent upon you.
1:46:30 If you're going to have a resilient life as a man, but my man, like you've got to put
1:46:35 things in the right order.
1:46:36 And I told him the same thing that we talked about earlier.
1:46:38 Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
1:46:40 That's number one.
1:46:41 Love your neighbor as yourself, your neighbor, primary is wife, then kids, then everyone
1:46:45 and everything else.
1:46:46 And then it, something clicked, something clicked for him.
1:46:50 He just needed someone to not just hold his hand and tell him it's going to be okay.
1:46:53 And you just do you and God loves you the way you are, no big deal.
1:46:57 It's like no brother.
1:46:58 Like you put yourself in this valley, let's let God get you out.
1:47:02 He's already here.
1:47:03 Can you get out of your own damn way so that he can help get you out?
1:47:07 You know, it's, I get a lot of phone calls and I get a lot of Facebook messages and people
1:47:12 needn't help.
1:47:13 Yeah.
1:47:14 And man, I'm, when it comes to this, like, I don't take this lightly, like it, if you
1:47:20 need help, man, I'm here to help you, but my first question to you is when you need help,
1:47:26 who are you doing this for?
1:47:29 Like I want, I want to know, like, if you called me and you said, hey, man, I got an
1:47:33 alcohol and drug addiction and you said, man, I'm ready for help.
1:47:37 I like, and I'm like, all right, who, who you doing this one for?
1:47:42 And if they say I'm doing it for my kids or my wife or for my job, then I just tell them,
1:47:46 okay, call me when you're ready and that's all I tell them and I'm like, don't, don't
1:47:53 do nothing.
1:47:54 Like, like, if you, if you need mental helper, if you're in the spot of word, like, like,
1:47:59 I'll, I'll get you the help, but you're not ready.
1:48:01 You're not ready to get sober because I guarantee you if I got sober for my wife and she left,
1:48:11 where am I going to be?
1:48:12 Right back where I was.
1:48:13 Right back where I was.
1:48:14 Probably worse.
1:48:15 That's, that's guaranteed when my kids and my wife are going to fail me and, and, and
1:48:21 I'm not speaking that over them, but what I'm saying is they're going to fail me somewhere
1:48:27 in life.
1:48:28 For sure.
1:48:29 And if I don't know, if I'm not doing this for Brad, then I'm doing it for all the wrong
1:48:34 reasons.
1:48:36 You know what I'm saying?
1:48:37 Like, because at the end of the day, if Brad can't be happy with Brad, then we ain't going
1:48:42 to be sober.
1:48:45 You know, you know what I'm saying?
1:48:46 So again, you're going to have to give an account for the life that you led someday.
1:48:49 Yes, sir.
1:48:50 Right.
1:48:51 My, my buddy Hardell Moore, great wrestling coach was like, control the controllables.
1:48:55 Right.
1:48:56 Yeah.
1:48:57 You can't control someone else's level of preparation.
1:48:59 You can't control how good someone else can be.
1:49:01 You can only control you.
1:49:02 Right.
1:49:03 You control your level of preparation, your level of everything.
1:49:06 And, and also at some point though, again, you can only control yourself.
1:49:12 You may have to be willing to put some relational chips in the center of the table with the
1:49:16 people in your life that you purportedly say that you love, right?
1:49:19 Yeah.
1:49:20 And there are too many men walking around this planet that are unwilling to risk some chips
1:49:24 in the center of the table to tell that brother of theirs, to tell that best friend of theirs
1:49:28 to tell whoever, "Hey, man, this isn't just drinking anymore.
1:49:33 This is a drinking problem."
1:49:34 Yeah.
1:49:35 Hey, man, I saw you spoke to your wife in public, it was really harsh.
1:49:39 You cut her down.
1:49:40 You're obviously embarrassed by it, as God be honest with you, you're not going to do
1:49:42 that in my presence anymore.
1:49:44 If not, I'm going to bounce you on your beak and then we're just going to figure out the
1:49:47 rest, right?
1:49:48 But here's the thing.
1:49:49 Most guys are just afraid of getting punched in the face and that they'll just shatter
1:49:53 into a billion pieces.
1:49:55 It's like your fear of potentially getting a physical backlash is not nearly as important
1:50:01 as the potential positive outcome that will come for your brother, right?
1:50:05 You're right.
1:50:06 Your brother in Christ or whatever.
1:50:07 And here's the other side.
1:50:08 The other side of that coin.
1:50:10 If you have allowed people to come into your life and say, "Hey, man, I want you to hold
1:50:13 me accountable.
1:50:14 Hey, man, I want you to lift me up.
1:50:15 Hey, man, I want you to shoulder some of the burden of your life."
1:50:17 And they come to you and they push some of those chips in the center of the table and
1:50:20 you react like a [inaudible] or you react like in your ego and all that stuff.
1:50:24 Whoa.
1:50:25 Whoa, now.
1:50:26 Like that's the worst case scenario because you know what most guys will do, some guys
1:50:29 will push through that and some guys will be like, "Okay, man, you welcomed me into your
1:50:33 life and the very first time that I pushed a little bit, you slammed the door shut."
1:50:38 And so a lot of guys will just take their ball and go home.
1:50:40 You know, the hardest part of the last Thursday was when my wife said, "Okay, I'm going to
1:50:45 put some stuff out on the table that I had done, that I had said that I had not done."
1:50:52 And part of me was like, "I had to swallow my pride."
1:50:58 Yeah.
1:50:59 Like I had to swallow my pride and said, "Man, babe, I am so sorry."
1:51:02 Like that's not what I mean, like I did not mean any of that, any of that.
1:51:10 You know?
1:51:11 And it's that is the hardest part as a guy to be able to let your wife have a voice and
1:51:19 tell her or her tell you some things that's caused hurt and stuff and you being able to
1:51:31 accept it, hear it, take it into your heart, digest it and be like, "Man, babe, I'm truly
1:51:40 sorry.
1:51:41 Could you please forgive me like, let's work on this."
1:51:45 But it's like that with everything.
1:51:46 You know what I'm saying?
1:51:47 Yeah.
1:51:48 Like when iron sharpens iron, you know what I'm saying?
1:51:53 Like, and you don't want to know what, as this goes right here, there may be a day where
1:52:00 I had to call Collar, Collar has to call Brad and say, "Hey, man, bro, I don't know what's
1:52:06 going on, you know?"
1:52:08 But I feel like I need to share this with you.
1:52:10 Well, here's the thing about iron sharpening iron, right?
1:52:14 Most people that have said that have never tried to sharpen iron with iron.
1:52:19 When you sharpen iron with iron, it's a loud process.
1:52:23 Things go flying off.
1:52:24 They're sparks, right?
1:52:26 It's dangerous if any of these sparks get in your eye or get in your mouth or something.
1:52:31 Like it's a whole thing.
1:52:32 It's like they imagine two streams of lotion coming across each other, like that's not
1:52:37 how iron sharpens iron.
1:52:39 When you sharpen something, you're knocking off the rough edges.
1:52:43 Just recently I had a knife like a chunk goes missing out of the blade, right?
1:52:46 So like just during the normal use of it, a chunk goes missing out of the blade.
1:52:50 So I sent it back to the company for them to refinish the blade.
1:52:53 They didn't just refinish it by putting some oil on it and in rubbing it and trying to
1:52:57 make it softer and maybe shining up the part that was jacked up.
1:53:01 No, they had to knock some stuff off of the blade.
1:53:04 They had to re- they had to use some different grit, right?
1:53:07 If you've ever sharpened something with like a professional sharpener, right?
1:53:10 You start out with the grittiest one first, right?
1:53:13 And then you eventually get to the leather belt, right?
1:53:16 But that's the thing that most guys don't look at the process.
1:53:19 It's really sanctification.
1:53:20 You look at this lifelong process of sanctification.
1:53:23 They don't look at it like this process.
1:53:24 When you were talking earlier, I came up with this concept a couple of years ago about country
1:53:28 music theology, right?
1:53:30 So in Oklahoma and Texas, a lot of people will really understand this.
1:53:33 People think they're a Christian because they got baptized when they were a kid.
1:53:37 Grandmama and granddaddy were good Christians and they went to church every week.
1:53:41 They occasionally go to church.
1:53:43 They vote Republican and they listen to 90s country music and God's apparently pro all
1:53:47 those things.
1:53:48 And so as long as you check those boxes, you get to enter the clubhouse at the end of your
1:53:51 life or something like that.
1:53:53 That's country music theology.
1:53:54 Guess what?
1:53:55 That's not real, right?
1:53:56 That's Jason Aldean.
1:53:57 So what most people don't really understand is when you give your life over to Christ or
1:54:05 when Christ forces you into it, you know, if you're Calvinist or whatever, and here you
1:54:08 are, you're a Christian now.
1:54:10 That's not the end of the story, right?
1:54:12 You have a lifetime's worth of sanctification and you know what sanctification is?
1:54:17 Iron sharpening iron, right, it's going to be uncomfortable.
1:54:22 You can't read the narratives of the lives of any of the important people in the Bible,
1:54:27 whether it's the forefathers or whether it's the apostles or whatever and think to yourself,
1:54:31 wow, it's just going to be rainbows and unicorns from me the whole way.
1:54:35 This is going to be awesome.
1:54:36 No, sanctification can really, really suck.
1:54:38 You can either fight against it or you can go along with it and you know, it's God break
1:54:44 my heart for what breaks yours and you better have you're asking for a broken heart.
1:54:51 You better have a big set of, you know what, right to handle that because I mean, it's
1:54:57 it's like this.
1:55:00 A lot of people don't like change, but I like change and the reason I like change because
1:55:06 change grows me.
1:55:08 Change makes me change.
1:55:10 I feel like it makes me have a little bit more drive in life, which I'm not I'm not normal
1:55:18 by no means.
1:55:19 You know what I'm saying?
1:55:20 Like I'm I'm a different breed.
1:55:23 Yeah, but at the same time, like I want to be put in that fire and I went through a couple
1:55:29 of months of not being in that fire and I got on some stuff that some stuff got on me that
1:55:38 not last Thursday, I was like, God, I need your help and I need to be put in that fire
1:55:46 and I need to be refined.
1:55:48 And there's stuff like an onion, you got to peel back till you get to where you're going.
1:55:52 You know what I'm saying?
1:55:53 And that and that fire is sometimes you just need to be thrown in a fire and you need and
1:55:58 you need to be uncomfortable until you get all that off of you.
1:56:02 And then once you get it off of you, you know, you're you're it's it's on that potter's wheel
1:56:06 and and he's trying to get that right shape and that right shape may be rough, tough and
1:56:13 hard and if there's God didn't call you to be didn't say this was going to be easy.
1:56:19 Yeah.
1:56:20 You know what I'm saying?
1:56:21 When when like Isaiah said send me, you know, I told God one time send me but keep me in
1:56:27 the United States.
1:56:28 You know what I'm saying?
1:56:29 Well, that's the thing.
1:56:30 Most people think when when they get a calling on their life or maybe they're called in
1:56:36 the ministry or something like that, let's just say when they colloquially when they get
1:56:39 off the couch, right?
1:56:40 Yeah.
1:56:41 So they've been sitting on the sidelines.
1:56:42 They've been sitting on the couch with their faith and then something happens, you know,
1:56:45 they get accepted into dominion program or they feel a call to ministry or they go on
1:56:49 a mission trip and it kind of changed their perspective or whatever.
1:56:52 Now they're in the game and every time that I talk to somebody or counsel somebody or give
1:56:57 someone some guidance that has gotten into the game, right?
1:56:59 This is why I told all the guys that joined the dominion program.
1:57:02 The moment they, you know, invested into the program and signed up and said, I'm going
1:57:07 to do this.
1:57:08 I'm going to dedicate to myself, you know, to this group and to this program for this
1:57:11 amount of time.
1:57:12 I was like, Hey, man, by the way, get ready for the flaming arrows to start in your way.
1:57:17 Okay.
1:57:18 You were in this group.
1:57:19 I was like, they're going to be marital problems that came out of the woodwork.
1:57:22 They're going to be kids that go prodigal.
1:57:24 There's going to be stuff that's going to go wrong with business partners.
1:57:26 Someone might lose their job.
1:57:27 I got an email this morning from one of my dominion guys, how to, how to stroke.
1:57:32 Actually, it didn't get an email from him.
1:57:33 I got an email from somebody else through my website that said, Hey, a guy in your program
1:57:38 is in the hospital.
1:57:39 Right now, he had a stroke and it's just kind of like Satan, there is, there are dark forces
1:57:45 out there.
1:57:46 Right?
1:57:47 I'm not one of these people that think there's two demons behind every bush.
1:57:48 It's not not one of those things, but there are dark forces that are leaning on you at
1:57:52 all times.
1:57:53 But when you're on the couch, they don't have to lean with both elbows and they don't
1:57:56 need help holding you down.
1:57:58 You're holding you down.
1:57:59 Why?
1:58:00 Because you're looking at porn and jerking off.
1:58:01 You're worried about your next fantasy football draft.
1:58:02 Oh, you got to play some more video games because you haven't done enough of that.
1:58:06 You're easy to keep down.
1:58:07 You're covered in Cheeto dust, man, like we don't need to worry about you.
1:58:10 But the moment you get all that off the chest and you get in the game and you raise your
1:58:14 hand and said, Hey, say here I am, send me, you enter that ministry thing, whether your
1:58:18 ministry is vocational ministry or in a boot shop or in a cubicle somewhere in Godibo, Oklahoma.
1:58:25 At that moment, Satan and his dark minions and his forces are like, shoot, we got to
1:58:30 get this person knocked back down, right?
1:58:32 Reseus Lewis is a screw tape letters.
1:58:35 You don't have to worry about the guy when he's not going to church.
1:58:37 You don't have to worry about the guy when he's not in Christian, a place you like community.
1:58:40 You don't have to worry about him.
1:58:42 And so it's like when you raise your hand, you got to be ready.
1:58:45 Can you be ready if you're not sharp?
1:58:48 Not really.
1:58:49 Can you be ready?
1:58:50 If you don't have a foxhole dudes around you that are going to be ready to pick you up
1:58:52 if you trip or stumble, not really, it's not going to work out well for you.
1:58:56 Two things.
1:58:57 Good buddy told me one time, if you're not dodging areas, you're not in the fight.
1:59:01 Yeah, absolutely true.
1:59:03 Nick Swinford told me that.
1:59:04 I'll never forget the day.
1:59:07 And the other thing is people are like, I hear it a lot.
1:59:11 I'm not called into ministry.
1:59:14 Let me tell you what, everybody's called into ministry.
1:59:16 Yeah.
1:59:17 They're thinking pastor.
1:59:18 You know, there was a guy that showed up at Cactus Alley one day.
1:59:29 And I could tell, I seen it all over him.
1:59:34 He was way lost, way confused, way and I had a customer in there and I had an older man
1:59:41 that was working for me at the time, and this dude was sitting in front of my shop window
1:59:48 with looking at the boots, looking at the scriptures, and I don't even remember the
1:59:52 scriptures of the day to this day.
1:59:56 But he kind of started getting a little teary-eyed and I was talking to this person but watching
2:00:05 him out over here and you may be the only Jesus somebody ever sees.
2:00:17 So, how are you acting and how are you going about it?
2:00:24 And there's been some times in life that I wasn't the best Jesus.
2:00:28 You know what I'm saying?
2:00:29 Yeah.
2:00:30 And if you say you've been Jesus all along, I mean, come on, let's get real with one another.
2:00:33 I mean, you've had your, you're not walking around like Jesus all the time.
2:00:38 And finally, I was like, hey, will you help them?
2:00:41 I need to go out here and see what like this, this Holy Spirit moment right here.
2:00:50 I walk out and say, man, you good?
2:00:53 And he just kind of, kind of looked at me and I said, what's up?
2:01:00 I've seen that scripture twice today, okay?
2:01:05 I've seen his arms, his arms and my arm look a lot alike.
2:01:09 So, I got some, I got some scar marks on my arms from putting needles in him and so did
2:01:15 he.
2:01:16 His was just a little bit more fresh.
2:01:20 And I said, you good?
2:01:22 He said, I don't know.
2:01:25 I said, you want to talk?
2:01:27 He said, I really don't know if you want to hear what I got to say.
2:01:33 I said, man, all I got is time.
2:01:36 And he said, okay, I said, sit down right here, let's talk.
2:01:42 He said, dude, I just shot a shot up a big deal of heroin in your parking lot and I
2:01:48 should be dead right now.
2:01:51 I said, okay.
2:01:53 And he said, what do you mean, okay?
2:01:57 I said, praise God, you're not.
2:02:03 He says, but that's what I wanted.
2:02:05 I said, well, that's not what God wanted.
2:02:11 And I said, you know, Jesus, he said, no, I've never, everybody that I've ever seen that
2:02:18 had him, I didn't want to be lacking, ooh, okay, so we're called love.
2:02:26 We're called to be like minded an image worse, worse, worse called to be like Jesus.
2:02:38 And he says, I've never found a Christian, I wanted to be like, he says, man, I've been
2:02:42 ate up with drugs.
2:02:43 I've been to the penitentiary.
2:02:44 I've done this, this and this and I just stuck my hand out and I said, I'm Brad Glenn.
2:02:53 And can I tell you that I've been where you're at?
2:02:56 And I showed him my arms, this dude breaks and I'm like, oh no.
2:03:11 And he says, I said, brother, you're not alone.
2:03:18 And he says, you know what, everybody in this world has judged me for this right here.
2:03:25 And he says, I made up with it.
2:03:26 I said, you think you're ate up with it.
2:03:29 I said, first of all, you need to change the way you talk because you ain't ate up with
2:03:34 it.
2:03:35 You're a child of God, you're going to walk out of it, you're not going to be a drug addict.
2:03:38 You're not going to be that person that keeps going back to the penitentiary, but you're
2:03:42 going to have to have a change of voice.
2:03:45 And all these people that a lot of people don't understand, my wife is a very big on
2:03:52 the power of words.
2:03:54 She's like, take that back.
2:03:56 Yeah.
2:03:57 Take that back.
2:03:58 I heard that before.
2:03:59 And I'm like, man, I didn't even realize I said it.
2:04:02 You know what I'm saying?
2:04:03 Like it just kind of come out like, and I told him, I said, you're not that heroin addict.
2:04:09 You're not that person.
2:04:13 And this dude was like, for one time in my entire life, and I don't remember how he
2:04:18 said how old he was, he says, I finally find somebody that I want to be like, I finally
2:04:24 found somebody that's not judging me.
2:04:28 That's not scared of me.
2:04:30 That's not like running like hell trying to get away from me.
2:04:35 And he says, like I see people that has this fire, but then they judge me for who I am.
2:04:45 I said, you can have that fire too.
2:04:49 I said, but you're going to have, you're going to have to have some change.
2:04:54 And I said, and I'm willing to walk you through it.
2:04:57 He says, it's ugly.
2:04:59 I said, and then I just shared a little bit of my story.
2:05:05 And I said, mine's too.
2:05:07 I said, but are you willing to take a chance?
2:05:09 Because if you're willing, I'm willing.
2:05:11 And this dude prayed and accepted Jesus right there in front of a space one in Cactus Alley
2:05:17 courtyard, and he is like, man, I finally found a Christian I wanted to be like, and
2:05:25 he says, this something's going on inside of me.
2:05:30 He says, it's like I've got a burning desire.
2:05:37 And I was like, it's time for a change.
2:05:41 And this dude just grabbed a hold of me, give me a big old hug.
2:05:44 And he says, man, he says, thank you for walking out.
2:05:47 He says, because I got more out there in the truck that if this didn't kill me, I got
2:05:53 more that will.
2:05:54 He said, you want me to be honest with you?
2:05:57 I said, none of that out there in the truck is going to kill you because God's got a plan
2:06:01 for you.
2:06:02 And it's a plan to succeed not to fail.
2:06:08 And this dude would come by ever so often in the change that took place.
2:06:14 But it's like that valley.
2:06:16 He was in that valley and he just needed that booster, that step that somebody to listen
2:06:24 and that somebody to talk to, that voice, that, that, hey, man, you got this lack.
2:06:33 But with that being said, it's like, I think of some things like I want to be so full of
2:06:38 Jesus that I'm contagious to where when I walk into a place everybody knows Jesus.
2:06:42 And I hadn't been like, I want to be honest with you.
2:06:46 Like I've struggled with that here lately.
2:06:50 But now that I got my priorities right and I've got God, my wife and my kids in my business,
2:07:01 I have that contagiousness.
2:07:05 And when you don't have your priorities right, you have confusion.
2:07:11 You have chaos.
2:07:13 You have lies from the pit of hell.
2:07:17 And you got noise and that noise is keeping you from where God's calling you to go.
2:07:22 Well, and think of it this way, a couple of stories that you'll probably relate to.
2:07:26 So I've told this before, but here I am and I'm in New Mexico.
2:07:31 I just got done doing an elk hunt and I'm driving home and I'm in a kind of a sketchier area
2:07:38 of New Mexico.
2:07:39 It's at night.
2:07:40 I go to a gas station.
2:07:41 Well, none of the card readers work on the pump, so you have to go inside and use cash
2:07:46 and do that and whatever.
2:07:47 And so I am my pumping gas and I just hear somebody over my shoulder say, "Hey, man."
2:07:53 And in my head, I go, "Here we go."
2:07:54 I'm about to get some sort of sob story and blah, blah, blah.
2:07:58 No, I need this.
2:07:59 I'm just trying to score, right?
2:08:00 I turn around and everything changed because, you know, I've said this before, I've watched
2:08:06 a bunch of gangland shows and like prison, you know, gang shows and stuff like that.
2:08:10 I just think it's interesting, like documentary stuff, not like, you know, Sons of Anarchy,
2:08:15 you know, dramatize, like actual stuff.
2:08:18 And so when you watch those shows, you pick up on things, like you pick up on how people
2:08:22 talk, you pick up on tattoos and what they mean, you pick up on all the stuff and I grew
2:08:25 up kind of in a rough town where I was kind of around gangs and I kind of understand at
2:08:29 least lingo and some of stuff going on.
2:08:32 And so as soon as I turn around, I knew some things about this guy, that he had been in
2:08:37 prison.
2:08:38 I'm pretty certain I knew what he was in prison for and I knew that he was clicked up and
2:08:42 I had a pretty good idea which click.
2:08:45 So I'm like, all right, well, this is a weird situation.
2:08:47 And I'm like, hey, man, what can I do for you?
2:08:50 And he's like, and he was just like, hey, brother, like, I know it's gonna, what it's
2:08:54 gonna sound like, but I just need gas, like, I have a card, like I don't have any way
2:08:58 to get like cash with it though, like my family, my wife and my kid just got in a car accident
2:09:04 in Albuquerque.
2:09:05 I got to get there.
2:09:06 I don't have a way to fill up and blah, blah, and all that kind of stuff.
2:09:09 So I'm like, sure.
2:09:10 Hey, man, I'll help you out.
2:09:11 Let me run aside and get some cash.
2:09:12 I give it to the, you know, the person at the counter.
2:09:15 I'm like, hey, we need to put like however much is going to take to fill up this guy's
2:09:19 car, blah, blah.
2:09:20 I get back out there.
2:09:21 So it's filling up his car.
2:09:22 It's like, thank you so much.
2:09:23 I really appreciate it.
2:09:24 And I just go, all right, we're here.
2:09:26 I go, Hey, man, where you clicked up?
2:09:28 He's like, yeah, man, I was clicked up.
2:09:31 I was like, how long were you in prison?
2:09:34 He didn't say he didn't tell me he was in prison, right before this, but I was like,
2:09:38 how long were you in prison?
2:09:40 He's like, I went in in 1992 and I just got out.
2:09:45 I was like, you don't go in for that long for, you know, Jay walking.
2:09:50 And I was like, why did you murder those people?
2:09:54 I get it.
2:09:55 He didn't tell me that he did.
2:09:57 I was like, why did you do that?
2:09:59 He goes, man, when you're clicked up, sometimes it's you or them and I chose me.
2:10:03 Yeah.
2:10:04 And two people died.
2:10:05 I was like, all right.
2:10:06 And then I was like, Hey man, were you in prison?
2:10:09 Did you have like a chaplain or anybody?
2:10:11 Did they ever tell you about Jesus?
2:10:14 He's like, not a chaplain.
2:10:15 He's like, it was one of the homies.
2:10:17 I was like one of the homies.
2:10:19 He's like, yeah, one of the OGs, he said, you know, he's like, man, I need to tell you
2:10:24 about Jesus.
2:10:25 And he gave me a Bible and I look back at him and he's and I'm like, look, I can't read
2:10:29 this Bible.
2:10:30 I'm illiterate.
2:10:31 Like, I don't, I don't know.
2:10:32 And so one of the OGs of his gang reading him the Bible on daily basis.
2:10:39 This guy eventually becomes a Christian.
2:10:41 Right.
2:10:42 Okay.
2:10:43 Well, what a story and it started with, Hey, can I have some gas?
2:10:48 But part of it is you had to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, because here I am.
2:10:54 I'm physically bigger than this guy.
2:10:56 I was concealed carrying like I'm, I'm okay in a physical altercation.
2:10:59 So I wasn't afraid of getting into a conversation with another fella.
2:11:03 But I was ready in case it got kinetic for, for a good reason or for no reason, right?
2:11:09 But you leaned in for the sake of the gospel and another story I was invited a couple of
2:11:13 years ago to go to Lewisburg prison up in Pennsylvania to go and speak to their guys
2:11:16 there in that prison.
2:11:17 Yes.
2:11:18 Okay.
2:11:19 Serious prison, murderers, rapists, pedophiles, drug dealers, like that's where all of them
2:11:24 is 13.
2:11:25 That's where those guys go.
2:11:26 They're, they're all there kind of concentrating them in prison in Pennsylvania.
2:11:30 And you know, I'm there and at one point before I go do my talk and they hadn't had somebody
2:11:35 come for years to speak to their inmates.
2:11:38 And so they were like, it was just a guy that's finally going to come and talk to us like
2:11:41 that kind of thing.
2:11:43 And before the speech, which was not compelled attendance, it was, Hey, if you want to come,
2:11:46 you can come kind of a thing.
2:11:48 I'm walking around the cell block.
2:11:51 Now I'm with the chaplain, but he's kind of going over here and kind of going over there.
2:11:55 And so at different points, I'm just sitting there in the cell block with inmates walking
2:11:59 by, like here and there and I'm in a stab vest because you had to be in a vest and all
2:12:03 that.
2:12:04 And I just thought like, yeah, I could die a couple of hours ago, they showed me through
2:12:09 their museum at their prison and there's a room full of shanks that they had confiscated
2:12:14 over the years, everything from little bitty things that were made out of shards of glass,
2:12:17 although we have to spears, the guys that made to kill people, right?
2:12:22 And I just had this thought, I was like, man, what a way to go out if I went out because
2:12:28 I wanted to share the gospel with some guys that needed it.
2:12:31 And here's how I started my presentation.
2:12:33 Because I like to meet people before I talk, you know, because I like to, you know, take
2:12:36 the sting out of it.
2:12:37 Like, yeah, I got a microphone on my face, but, you know, I'm just a dude, like, Hey,
2:12:41 like, you know, how, you know, thanks for coming back to everything.
2:12:43 It just kind of cools everybody else's everybody out a little bit.
2:12:46 And I wasn't playing on saying this, but the first words out of my mouth whenever I got
2:12:49 in the room to speak to these guys, I don't know how many guys there were, you know, 7,500
2:12:53 something like that.
2:12:54 I was like, look, y'all have crossed the laws of man and I haven't.
2:13:01 Because that's why I get to leave and y'all have to stay here.
2:13:04 Right.
2:13:05 Right.
2:13:06 But we've all crossed the laws of God.
2:13:08 So in that way, we are brothers.
2:13:10 So can we dispense with any of the weirdness about me somehow being different than y'all?
2:13:14 And you want to see the eyeballs, those guys, yeah, all filled down and it's like, now buckle
2:13:21 in.
2:13:22 I got about an hour's worth of stuff to tell you.
2:13:24 And by the end of the time being done there at Lewisburg, about three dozen guys indicated
2:13:32 given their lives to Christ, right?
2:13:34 And you know, you can't judge fruit and, you know, all these different things.
2:13:37 And it's just kind of like all that started with me being like, we're not different.
2:13:43 We've just ended up in different places.
2:13:45 There was a guy that came in and I saw him in the cell block.
2:13:49 He was, you know, he was a transgender guy, right?
2:13:51 So this guy, you know, make up and long hair and pain and nails and all that.
2:13:55 And, you know, for all intents purposes, been selling himself to basically have some protection
2:14:00 while inside, right?
2:14:01 You know, it's kind of a situation.
2:14:04 He comes in my talk, right?
2:14:05 And when one part of my talk, I talk about what a man is and I say, it's so stupid that
2:14:10 I even have to say this, but a man is a male.
2:14:13 And then I get to the rest of my definition, which is a male that cultivates spiritual
2:14:16 mental and physical resilience on a daily basis.
2:14:18 That's what a man is.
2:14:19 Okay.
2:14:20 But I look right at this guy whenever I say it, right?
2:14:24 Not to make it awkward, but that's just where my gaze went, right?
2:14:27 You know, I just kind of locked in on this guy that's dressed up like a woman.
2:14:31 And so I don't really think anything of it.
2:14:33 I do my speech.
2:14:34 It's, you know, it's great and all that kind of stuff.
2:14:35 Well, a couple of years ago, I have a couple of vocal cord surgeries, right?
2:14:39 And in between surgeries, I thought that I was never going to be able to talk above
2:14:43 a whisper again because the first surgery was not successful.
2:14:45 It's super invasive.
2:14:46 They literally slice you open and, you know, prop up when you're vocal cords with, you
2:14:50 know, a piece of silicone that they carve, you know, while they're in the surgery center,
2:14:53 right?
2:14:54 So it's like a full on deal.
2:14:55 And so I'm thinking like professional speaker and podcaster and now I can't talk like this.
2:15:01 This is a problem, right?
2:15:03 I get this thing in the mail and it's this canvas.
2:15:07 And on it is, uh, it's a pencil drawing of praying hands with a crown of thorns around
2:15:13 it.
2:15:14 It was beautiful.
2:15:15 And then I turn it over to the back and it's notes from the guys that I spoke to.
2:15:21 And they were all, Hey, man, just letting you know, we're praying for you.
2:15:23 Like you're not done.
2:15:25 Your voice isn't done.
2:15:26 Like we're praying for your next search of the bubble.
2:15:27 Like I just probably, you know, 30, 40, guys, I didn't even know what she's going through.
2:15:31 Yeah.
2:15:32 They just, they just knew that the guy that cared enough about us to take time out of his
2:15:36 day to come and speak to us is in trouble.
2:15:38 He's in crisis.
2:15:39 And you know, we need to let him know that we're praying for him.
2:15:42 Yes.
2:15:43 And I sat down and said, Hey, since you're something in the mail, when you get it, I need
2:15:46 you to call me.
2:15:47 There's a story behind it.
2:15:48 I was like, okay.
2:15:49 So I get in the mail.
2:15:50 This is grow.
2:15:51 Oh my gosh.
2:15:52 It's, you know, I'll show it to you on the way out of the studio.
2:15:53 It's, it's there on the other side of the studio.
2:15:54 He goes, Hey, you want to know who drew that?
2:15:57 The guy at the cross dresser that showed up to your talk from that moment, the moment
2:16:03 he left, he cut his fingernails down.
2:16:06 It's not wearing fingernail polish.
2:16:07 He's not wearing makeup.
2:16:08 He cut his hair.
2:16:09 He went back to his mail name and he's been completely different since that moment.
2:16:13 He's the one that drew that for you.
2:16:15 Yeah.
2:16:16 That's awesome.
2:16:17 And, but the thing is, again, you have to say yes, Lord.
2:16:21 Yeah.
2:16:22 And when you say yes, Lord, you will be under attack again, say and attack my voice.
2:16:28 What, what do you do against a professional speaker that you want them to stop talking,
2:16:32 you attack their voice, then if they can't take you out, they're going to try to wear
2:16:35 you out.
2:16:36 There's some stuff that went down last year that was, you know, bound to wear me out and
2:16:40 I almost called it quits on this whole thing, right?
2:16:43 Like that this wasn't as important because I was getting worn down.
2:16:46 Right.
2:16:47 And that's just the, that's just the thing, man, is whenever you do raise your hand,
2:16:50 whenever you do say it, you have to put those relationships in the center and it's going
2:16:54 to be different if you've been there, right?
2:16:57 You were able to talk to this guy that walked into your boot shop and talk to him on his
2:17:02 level because you weren't just a squeaky clean like Sunday school kid that never did wrong.
2:17:06 And I'm not saying you guys can't do ministry.
2:17:08 If that's who you were, your ministry's just probably going to be to a different crowd.
2:17:11 Yeah.
2:17:12 Right.
2:17:13 And that's not to say that you can have a huge impact on a guy that's killed multiple people.
2:17:16 Sure.
2:17:17 You can have the same level of impact, but it's different when you can say, look at my arms
2:17:20 too.
2:17:21 I've been their brother, but I know how we can get out and you know, here's the, I get a
2:17:25 lot of people that have also, uh, they're like, man, they, they got the heart to help.
2:17:31 You know what I'm saying?
2:17:32 And it's, it's like this.
2:17:34 You got the heart to help, but, and you're called into ministry, but there's resources
2:17:42 out there for you.
2:17:43 Yeah.
2:17:44 You know what I'm saying?
2:17:45 Like this one guy told me one time he was like, man, I've been ministering to this drug
2:17:48 addict and he's just not getting it.
2:17:50 Like I'm like, and I'm like, when have you ever walked a day in his shoes and it's kind
2:17:56 of like I'm not going to go minister to somebody and tell them, Hey, I know, I know what you're
2:18:02 saying that's been raped and, and, and been beaten because I don't, I don't know that.
2:18:10 And that like until you've been in those shoes, you'll never know.
2:18:16 And that's how I knew what he was going through.
2:18:23 And he needed somebody like me praise God, I was the person that God used to, to minister
2:18:29 to him.
2:18:30 You know what I'm saying?
2:18:31 And there may have been a bunch of people minister to him before that and they didn't
2:18:35 know what he was going through.
2:18:36 So he, he couldn't get what he needed.
2:18:38 You know what I'm saying?
2:18:39 And that's the biggest deal is it's, it's, it's that spot of like Isaiah, seeing me
2:18:46 God.
2:18:47 Well, and what Satan meant for your destruction, Brad has led you to where you are in a unique
2:18:52 place to where you can help lead other people out of it with your ministry.
2:18:56 That is the boot shop.
2:18:57 Yes, sir.
2:18:58 And so I know we've been, we've been doing this for over a couple of hours.
2:19:01 I do want to like kind of shift gears and talk a little bit about, about your business
2:19:04 and about your ministry and about the stuff that you do.
2:19:07 And so, because that's how I originally got like turned on to what you were doing is I
2:19:10 saw a clip and I was like, oh, this guy makes boots because a few years ago, one of my
2:19:14 first interviews was with a guy named Ray Doarwart out of Guthrie, Oklahoma.
2:19:19 So this was a guy who back in the day was a working cowboy in the Dakotas in Montana
2:19:24 and Utah and all that.
2:19:26 And he eventually got into making saddles and then he moved into making custom boots and
2:19:30 almost all the boots he makes were for working cowboys, right?
2:19:33 Right.
2:19:34 And so you got some dude that owns a ranch up in North Dakota and he'll send all of
2:19:36 his cowboys down to Guthrie, Oklahoma to do all this.
2:19:40 And so I actually went and interviewed him in his shop years ago.
2:19:43 And you know, about six months ago, I called him because I was like, man, I think, you
2:19:46 know, want to, you know, get, get some boots made and different things like that.
2:19:49 Well, he's, he's retiring.
2:19:50 Like he basically the orders he has now, once he fulfills those, like that's, that's going
2:19:54 to be it and that's all.
2:19:55 But it's, it's something that I'm super interested in that I would never want to personally do
2:19:59 myself.
2:20:00 Like I, I don't want to build a pair of boots, but I'm like super interested in like, okay,
2:20:04 somebody walks in to your boot shop in Lubbock, Texas and they're like, I want to get boots
2:20:09 like, what does that process look like?
2:20:11 And then once you take, you know, your measurements, then, then what does it kind of look like
2:20:14 from there?
2:20:15 So, so what is the name of the business?
2:20:16 And then like take us through the process because this is going to be like super nerdy
2:20:20 for me.
2:20:21 So I got BG custom boots and Lubbock, Texas, Texas monthly has named me one that they were,
2:20:27 they did it right up over a bunch of us bootmakers and some of the top bootmakers and I, and
2:20:31 I got to be a part of that, that magazine and it was a very, like, and, and there's been
2:20:36 several others, but I mean, literally you come in, I put, I tell you to take your boots
2:20:41 off, I draw your foot, I measure it in four spots.
2:20:46 And then you, you walk, you tell me what you're thinking and I start designing.
2:20:52 And what's the coolest part about a lot of my stuff is I'll get people that walk in and
2:20:56 they're like, this is the color scheme, I won't, you design it.
2:21:00 You know what I'm saying?
2:21:01 Or hey, I want some, I want this on there and help, like, I want feathers on my boots.
2:21:07 I, I have, I've stitched a bunch of feathers at one time and then I've inlayed a bunch
2:21:11 of feathers and people are like, hey, I want feathers somehow or another.
2:21:14 And I'm like, okay, let's do this, this and this, you know, it's, it's hard for somebody
2:21:20 to go in and tell an artist how they want it sometimes, but it's best to go in and describe
2:21:26 to an artist, hey, I want, I want something like this.
2:21:31 This is my colors come up with what you want.
2:21:34 Yeah.
2:21:35 And you know, it's, I get a lot of people that'll come in and it, and it may take me
2:21:40 a couple months to get, to get the, get it put in my head.
2:21:43 You know what I'm saying?
2:21:44 Or it's, it's, but it literally they come in and man, I, I'm a lot of people say you're
2:21:53 not 100% custom.
2:21:56 I just work, work smarter, not harder.
2:21:58 I got a laser that cuts, I, I design, I still have to draw, hand draw everything and then
2:22:03 I design it on a computer and literally what used to take me a couple of days to cut tops
2:22:08 out with a knife and a chisel knife on a machine, I can walk over and put it in a computer.
2:22:14 And design it and make it really cool boot and it, and it be 100% perfect.
2:22:21 And then I, then I glue tops together and so, and then we, we get them turned inside out
2:22:26 and we get them.
2:22:27 I build a last, you tell me if you like some people like a real pointy toe, some people
2:22:32 like a square toe.
2:22:33 I've got a machine in the back of my, in the back that I build my own last so I can create
2:22:40 them on, on, on Rhino on a CAD program.
2:22:45 And then, then I can, then once it, when I turn it out of pine wood, I can go in there
2:22:50 and, and, and fine tune it and, and sometimes I got to put a little bit of leather on it.
2:22:55 Sometimes I don't, sometimes it comes out perfect.
2:22:58 And then I shape the toe and then I put in soles on and start lasting.
2:23:02 And, and, and some days I can build, I mean, there's days that I can build a boot in three
2:23:08 days or sometimes that it takes a little bit longer to build.
2:23:11 But I mean, everything's done right there in my shop.
2:23:15 I do, I do everything 100% I had a guy helping me.
2:23:19 He's no longer with me and, but it's, it's, it's, I enjoy when people walk in and be like,
2:23:30 this color combo have fun.
2:23:31 Yeah.
2:23:32 You know what I'm saying?
2:23:33 Like, like, don't tell an artist how to do his art.
2:23:36 Oh, man, I just went through that with, uh, this is some pretty fresh tattoo work that
2:23:40 I got in the last couple of months.
2:23:42 And so I mean, it's the gospel of my arms.
2:23:44 So it's got Jesus crown thorns.
2:23:45 You got Golgotha, the crosses, Lamb of God, like it's, you know, it's a, it's a whole
2:23:49 thing that I can.
2:23:50 I've literally shared the gospel with people by pointing at my arm now, just in the last
2:23:53 couple of months.
2:23:54 But yeah, Dustin, yip, a great black and gray guy that just moved to Oklahoma City not that
2:23:57 long ago.
2:23:59 And so like, I kind of know the drill when it comes to artists like that, it's one thing
2:24:03 to say, Hey, I want the word blessed, you know, here on my shoulder and I want there
2:24:07 to be a cross with a feather and a flower block.
2:24:10 Okay.
2:24:11 That's fine.
2:24:12 But when you go to a guy like this, you say, here's kind of the theme.
2:24:15 Here's some different references of my style, but this guy only does a black and gray realism.
2:24:19 So if you want this guy to do, do text, you won't do it.
2:24:22 If you want this guy to do like anime or, you know, American traditional or something like
2:24:26 he's just not going to do it.
2:24:27 Like it's not his, that's not his thing.
2:24:29 But I just kind of went to him and I'm like, okay, this is kind of what I'm thinking.
2:24:32 And then let's start working from there.
2:24:34 And then you're kind of working together with this guy to get an idea because if it's going
2:24:39 to be on you permanently, because boots, you can take off and never wear them again if
2:24:42 you don't, if you don't like them, but it's like, if you're going to wear it permanently,
2:24:45 you can't take the gun out of the out of the tattoo artist hand to a degree, but I can
2:24:49 see how for you, it would be awesome if someone just kind of came in and say, because like,
2:24:52 I know for me, because when I go speak some, someplace, I just wear black, right, because
2:24:56 I don't want what I'm wearing to be distracting.
2:24:58 So I wear a black V neck, I wear black jeans and I wear black boots.
2:25:02 So I don't have to think about what I'm going to wear.
2:25:03 No one's distracted by it.
2:25:05 If I start sweating, you're wearing black, it's kind of the best color for it.
2:25:08 And so it's like, again, you're just kind of walking that out.
2:25:11 So that was my thought is I was like, okay, I would like to do like some black boots,
2:25:15 like maybe like get the lion on it or something like that.
2:25:17 But if you start telling an artist, here's my list of 74 things that you got to do.
2:25:23 You might find an artist that's willing to do that, but man, if you constrict someone
2:25:28 like that, or if you put them too much in a box like brother, you're probably not going
2:25:31 to be as satisfied as if you would have if you would have just kind of let your hands
2:25:34 go a little bit.
2:25:35 You're exactly right.
2:25:36 I mean, it's hard to tell an artist, like, and I've had people come in that think they're
2:25:44 bootmakers.
2:25:45 That don't make boots and they've told and I've got two buddies, really close buddies
2:25:52 and they'll know who they are when they listen to you, you know what I'm saying?
2:25:58 They come in and told me how they wanted their boots, the first time.
2:26:01 And I did what they said.
2:26:03 And literally they, they was like, he's don't fit.
2:26:06 I was like, okay, now are you going to let me build your boots and they're like, yeah,
2:26:10 my bad.
2:26:11 And then, and then they're like, bro, I didn't know these boots could be this comfortable,
2:26:15 you know, and it's, man, it's, I finally found my calling in life.
2:26:21 Yeah.
2:26:22 I mean, like I, I've got, I love designing stuff.
2:26:29 I love doodling.
2:26:30 I love drawing.
2:26:31 I never knew how to even run a computer at one point in time in my life.
2:26:34 And I taught myself to run Adobe Illustrator.
2:26:37 There's people that go to school for four years, yeah, for four years for Adobe Illustrator.
2:26:42 You know, it's, it's God's just been all over my life in the, in this, in this deal.
2:26:47 And it's, it's, I finally give God all the glory.
2:26:50 You know what I'm saying?
2:26:51 Yeah.
2:26:52 In, in the top of these hats right here, they all say in God we trust.
2:26:55 That's right.
2:26:56 So when I was putting it on and it's, uh, I've had a lot of people that, uh, they're
2:27:02 like, I, I don't want to wear that.
2:27:03 And I was like, do you have dollar bills in your pocket and they're like, yeah, then
2:27:06 I said, let me have those.
2:27:07 I'll say close.
2:27:08 You don't want that either.
2:27:09 And, you know, we'll show you, you mentioned like the comfort of a boot.
2:27:11 So, so that's been one of the struggles for me, which is where I was like, okay, I think
2:27:14 I need something custom because I've got long skinny feet with really long, like, you
2:27:20 know, finger toes and super high arches.
2:27:23 Right.
2:27:24 And so like it's okay.
2:27:25 You can find like a tennis shoe that you can easily kind of like, you know, cinch up
2:27:28 a little bit more, make a little bit looser here or there.
2:27:31 But when you're getting into like a boot and it's just, you know, you know, you're out
2:27:35 of boot shopping.
2:27:36 So it's just a, you know, Justin boot or an Anderson bean or an area out or whatever.
2:27:39 Yeah.
2:27:40 Like they're making a last that is going to work for the most amount of people because
2:27:45 you can't have a boot in every boot barn, like in America and it'd be super custom to
2:27:50 a particular person's foot, right?
2:27:52 That's not really going to work out.
2:27:53 You're going to take the average of the most amount of adult male or adult female or kiddos
2:27:58 feet and you're just going to make the boot to that specification.
2:28:02 And if you're not too picky or if you're like an aesthetics over comfort type of person,
2:28:06 you will wear boots that absolutely kill your feet because they're pretty or they're cute
2:28:11 or they, they may, they look good in your jeans or whatever the thing is, but like a guy like
2:28:14 me, I want super long jeopardy with my body and performance athletically and all those
2:28:21 things.
2:28:22 So I'm hypersensitive to anything that's going to hurt my performance.
2:28:26 And so I refuse to walk around in a pair of shoes, tuxedo shoes or tennis shoes, regardless,
2:28:32 that's going to hurt my feet because you're on your feet.
2:28:34 You only get two feet.
2:28:35 Right?
2:28:36 Right.
2:28:37 Like if you're lucky, you're not going to get them replaced.
2:28:39 And if you wear boots like that are bad for your feet or they crunch up your toes too
2:28:44 much or that they don't really work for you, it's not just about comfort, like it's not
2:28:48 good for your gate.
2:28:49 It's not good.
2:28:50 I mean, you've seen it.
2:28:51 So when it gets a hurt right foot and then their left hip starts hurting because now their
2:28:54 body's having to overcompensate for the constant pounding that they're putting on something.
2:28:58 So like, how would you advise somebody that wants not just, you know, a comfortable boot,
2:29:04 but a boot that's like literally for their foot?
2:29:07 Here's the big thing is finding a bootmaker that's going to build you a last for your
2:29:11 foot.
2:29:12 Right.
2:29:13 You know, it's kind of like, it's kind of like this right here.
2:29:15 The reason I have the returning customers that I have is because I build you, I build you
2:29:20 a last and that last is yours.
2:29:22 The most stupidest thing that you could ever do is build somebody a last toss and then,
2:29:27 and then use it for somebody else.
2:29:29 And that's what happens in a lot of boot makers deal is they'll build it up and then they'll
2:29:33 be like, okay, I'm going to peel these scabs, we call them scabs.
2:29:36 We're going to peel these scabs off and we're going to put them in their folder.
2:29:39 Well, when you peel, like most of the time, then when you put them back, then you pulled
2:29:46 leather off when you, when you did that, you know what I'm saying?
2:29:48 So then the next pair is either too loose or too tight.
2:29:52 And when you, my, here's my thing is when you get it perfect, why in the hell do you want
2:29:58 to change it?
2:29:59 You know what I'm saying?
2:30:00 Why would you have to potentially read?
2:30:01 Because I'm going to save money and I'm going to use this last for another customer.
2:30:05 And then over a period of time, you've sanded down on that last and you, you don't have
2:30:10 near what you have.
2:30:11 So, so every boot, you, you get one pair of boot for me and then you order another pair.
2:30:17 The only time that, that fits going to change is if you lost weight or you gained weight.
2:30:22 Yeah.
2:30:23 You know what?
2:30:24 So, so if you, if you lost a bunch of weight or you gained a bunch of weight, yeah, your
2:30:26 boots are going to change.
2:30:28 Your feet are going to change.
2:30:29 But here's the thing is once I get that fit perfect, it's done.
2:30:33 So all my returning customers can call me and be, hey, I need another pair of boots.
2:30:38 Okay.
2:30:39 Tell me what colors.
2:30:40 I want this, this and this.
2:30:41 Okay.
2:30:42 Perfect.
2:30:43 I'll have you a pair here pretty quick.
2:30:44 Yeah.
2:30:45 And, and so it's, it's getting, um, it's kind of like I tell people you find the people
2:30:49 that you find the boot that you like, that you, that you like to look and go have a make
2:30:55 you a pair.
2:30:56 Yeah.
2:30:57 You know what I'm saying?
2:30:58 And, uh, am I, am I that, that I, I build a lot of dress.
2:31:02 I build a lot of gator boots, uh, but am I going to put that perfect shine on, on it
2:31:07 and make it just, no, I'm, I'm going to, I'm here's where I'm at.
2:31:11 I'm going to make it wearable.
2:31:12 I'm going to make it comfortable.
2:31:14 You can take a boot that is so pretty like I call it a shelf boot.
2:31:19 Yeah.
2:31:20 And leave it up there because you don't want to wear that thing around.
2:31:23 You're exactly right.
2:31:25 I can take a boot that looks not so nice, but it fits great.
2:31:30 Right.
2:31:31 That's better than that shelf boot.
2:31:32 Oh, okay.
2:31:33 Like you're, you're literally speaking my language because back in the day, I used to
2:31:36 have like a sneaker problem because like we didn't have a ton of money growing up.
2:31:39 Now we were, we were never without heat and air.
2:31:42 We were never without a roof of our heads and food and all that, but there wasn't like
2:31:45 a bunch of extra money so that I could like buy the new pair of Jordans or get a new pair
2:31:49 of this or that.
2:31:50 So when I started getting my own money, you know, getting my own jobs and things like
2:31:53 that, I kind of went crazy and just bots sneaker after sneaker after sneaker and all that.
2:31:58 And so I was obsessed with Nike's and this before they went super crazy and woken all
2:32:02 that.
2:32:03 So I've got all these different pairs and I had a different pair of shoes for different
2:32:04 things like that.
2:32:05 Okay.
2:32:06 These four or five pair of shoes.
2:32:07 This is whenever I do cross training.
2:32:08 Okay.
2:32:09 Here are my sprinting shoes.
2:32:10 Here's my distance shoes.
2:32:11 There's my lifting shoes.
2:32:12 And I do all those things.
2:32:13 I kind of stopped doing that because I had all these pairs of shoes.
2:32:16 I take really, really good care of my shoes.
2:32:18 Like I've got shoes that are over a decade old people are like, oh, are those new?
2:32:21 And I'm like, no, I just, I take really, really good.
2:32:23 I take care of those types of shoes, but with boots, there's something different about
2:32:28 boots.
2:32:29 And I'm just not going to be the guy that's going to have 20 pairs of boots.
2:32:33 It's just not going to be it, right?
2:32:35 I may have, but you know, my, my black boots, my brown boots and my cognac or, you know,
2:32:41 you know, light tan or something like that.
2:32:43 And that's it.
2:32:44 And those will get worn if or until they get worn completely out.
2:32:48 I'm not going to have five or six different black boots to choose from and be like, oh,
2:32:52 I'm kind of filling these today or all the, this is more of this session.
2:32:54 It's like, no, these are my boots.
2:32:57 And so that's, that's what's conducive to kind of like a custom thing.
2:33:00 Like guys out there that if you, if you want something custom and done right, you got to
2:33:05 go to someone like you and be like, Hey, I want, these are going to be my boots.
2:33:09 Like at most, I may send these back to you to get them resold or get a new heel, put
2:33:14 on them or something like that.
2:33:15 But Hey, these are my boots now.
2:33:16 You know what I mean?
2:33:17 Yeah.
2:33:18 Right.
2:33:19 Now that, that come in and got a pair of boots from me, not too long ago, a banker there
2:33:22 and love it.
2:33:23 And he said, I got like 17 pair and of this store brand.
2:33:29 I'm not even going to mention the name, you know, and I'm like, okay.
2:33:33 I said, do you like them?
2:33:35 And he said, I love them.
2:33:37 I said, okay, that's fine.
2:33:38 I said, but if I build you a pair, you're probably not ever going to go back to that.
2:33:42 And I'm not being arrogant and I'm, I'm just, I'm just telling you how it is because these
2:33:48 boots are going to fit your arch.
2:33:50 They're going to fit your toes.
2:33:51 They're going to fit your ball.
2:33:52 They're going to fit your heel.
2:33:54 They're going to fit if they are made perfect, you're never going to want to take them off
2:33:59 is where that's at.
2:34:00 And he was like, okay, he come in order to pair.
2:34:06 I call him the one hit wonders.
2:34:08 He tells you I want one, I want one pair and that's it.
2:34:11 That's it.
2:34:12 Yeah.
2:34:13 And about two weeks later, he comes rolling back in the shop.
2:34:19 I said, Hey, what are you doing?
2:34:22 And he said, uh, here to order another pair.
2:34:25 Yes.
2:34:26 All that come.
2:34:27 I said, one hit, huh?
2:34:30 One and done.
2:34:31 That's it.
2:34:32 And he was like, well, you did make a comment one day and I was like, what's that Chris?
2:34:37 And he was like, uh, talked about them 17 pair that I had.
2:34:43 He says, tried one on the other day.
2:34:45 I needed to go to a bank meeting and I needed a pair of black boots and all I got is brown
2:34:50 boots.
2:34:51 I said, how'd that work out?
2:34:53 He said, them were the most uncomfortable son of a blank, blank, blank, blank.
2:34:57 And I said, so it sounds like we need to build a black pair of boots.
2:35:00 Yeah.
2:35:01 And he was like, yes, sir, we do.
2:35:02 He says, so I'll have a brown and I'll have a black.
2:35:06 And I said, yes, sir.
2:35:08 And I said, and I'll see you for a third pair.
2:35:11 Yeah.
2:35:12 And he was like, no, he's like, my wife already told me if like, and so time went by and he
2:35:24 shows back up at the shop.
2:35:25 I was like, are you?
2:35:26 And he's like, Oh, that's over here.
2:35:27 I just stopped him by.
2:35:29 I said, no, you're not like, what's up?
2:35:33 And he was like, well, I need another pair of boots.
2:35:36 I said, how's your working out for you?
2:35:41 I ain't wore none of them so I'm like, OK, he's like, they're just collecting dust over
2:35:47 there.
2:35:48 And I was like, all right.
2:35:49 So what are we doing now?
2:35:50 He was like, well, I've been thinking about a rough out pair.
2:35:52 So when I go to the branch, he said, because I almost broke out my brown boots.
2:35:56 And I was like, and he said, the wife told me don't do that.
2:36:02 So I built him a third pair and he screwed up.
2:36:07 And when he come pick him up, he brought his wife and his like, just put me down on another
2:36:10 pair.
2:36:11 And she says, I don't think this is how this is going to work out.
2:36:13 You got 17 pair of exotic boots right here and you're not wearing none of these.
2:36:17 And if you're going to do that, and he says, if you're going to do this, you're going to
2:36:20 start selling these 17 pair.
2:36:22 He's like, I won't ever wear them 17 pair again in his eyes.
2:36:26 And part of me wanted to tell him, I told you so, but I didn't want to be that arrogant
2:36:31 bootmaker and be like, but it's, it's that way when you finally get the correct fit.
2:36:38 You don't realize how, how great boots are.
2:36:41 I mean, I walk around on concrete all day long with these boots.
2:36:44 My feet don't hurt because they're the way that they're supposed to be.
2:36:48 Well, and so my thing is every pair of boots that I've ever owned, I could not wait to
2:36:52 take them off at the end of the day.
2:36:54 Now, and because I'll be up, especially if I'm presenting somewhere, I may be in the
2:36:58 airport with them and then I'm going to my place and then it's pre-talk and I'm doing
2:37:02 the talk and then it's half a talk and I get back to the hotel and I'm just like, I can't
2:37:05 wait to get these things off.
2:37:06 And the thing is, is you're right.
2:37:08 When you find the fit that just fits your foot.
2:37:11 So there's a, there's a pair of Nike's that were made, I think they were only made in
2:37:16 like 2009 or 2010.
2:37:20 So Dorel Rivas, who's one of the best cornerbacks in the history of the NFL, like he was a Nike
2:37:24 athlete at the time.
2:37:25 He made something called the Zoom Rivas, okay?
2:37:29 I don't know what you're talking about.
2:37:30 This wasn't a low top, it wasn't a high top.
2:37:33 It was a mid-top.
2:37:34 Okay.
2:37:35 So it was a mid, which was unique.
2:37:36 My buddy Mo, who's a police officer up in Lawrence, Kansas, now one of my best friends
2:37:40 ever, he had gotten a pair and they looked really cool, but then he and I wore the same
2:37:45 size shoe.
2:37:46 And so I threw them on one day and I was like, whoa.
2:37:49 So cause they got the lace, but then they, they've got like a little strap that goes over
2:37:53 the top.
2:37:54 He's scenced that up a little bit, tired a little bit, not the bottom.
2:37:56 It's a turf shoe, right?
2:37:58 But if you run on the street or if you're doing stuff like on a football field, you're
2:38:02 not going to stop and keep going, right?
2:38:04 But it's also not a cleat.
2:38:05 I was like, oh my gosh.
2:38:07 And so I remember when I bought my first pair, I bought, I bought a white and silver
2:38:10 pair and I was like, these were just made for my feet because like I could throw these
2:38:15 shoes on.
2:38:16 If I want to run a little bit of distance, good.
2:38:18 If I want to go run some routes on a football field, good.
2:38:21 If I want to play basketball and these good, or if I just want to kick it and run around
2:38:24 like, or just go to the gym and work out, I was good to go.
2:38:28 And so I bought another pair, bought a blue pair and then I bought a black pair, right?
2:38:32 And so that was all within about a couple of years of one another, but it was the only
2:38:35 year they made them.
2:38:36 They didn't do the Zoom Revis two.
2:38:37 They didn't do maybe they didn't sell well.
2:38:39 Maybe I don't really know what worked out with them.
2:38:42 But they're gone, right?
2:38:43 So right.
2:38:44 There's dudes on eBay that are selling like size 12, like revises and they're selling
2:38:49 them for like $1,000 or something like that.
2:38:51 I found like a God awful ugly looking orange pair a couple of years ago because there's
2:38:56 a bunch of fakes out there as well.
2:38:57 And I paid a decent amount for them on eBay and got them just because I was like, I had
2:39:01 torn these other three pairs up and then these aren't just, oh, you can just get them
2:39:05 resold like they're just, they're done.
2:39:06 They're like, they're like lawn mower and shoes at this point.
2:39:09 And so those orange ones, the problem is, is I can't find an opportunity that's good enough
2:39:13 to wear them.
2:39:14 I think I've worn them three or four times to work out and because I'm like, this is the
2:39:17 last pair.
2:39:18 So guys, if you're looking to give me a present for Christmas or my birthday or something and
2:39:20 you've got a pair of zoom revises size 12, I'll give you my address and you can send them
2:39:25 the PO boxes at the bottom of our website, zoom revises size 12, zoom revis size 12,
2:39:29 but that's the thing.
2:39:30 Oh my gosh, if y'all do that for me, I will literally, I promise you, I will never stop
2:39:35 doing podcasts.
2:39:36 I'll keep serving you.
2:39:37 But that's the thing is like you find something that fits for your, your foot.
2:39:41 And now it's just like, well, shoot.
2:39:43 Now I got to go find something else and no one's really making that, that mid soul thing
2:39:46 or if they do, it's a brand that they're lacer, a lot more narrow than I like or they're a
2:39:51 lot more wide than I like or that, you know, the mid doesn't really go right up to the right
2:39:55 place that I like.
2:39:56 So I can only imagine it being the same way with boots.
2:39:58 Well, it's like this.
2:39:59 You pay for what you get.
2:40:00 You know what I'm saying?
2:40:01 I mean, if, if, and it's like there was a guy in my shop that not too long ago and he
2:40:06 was like, uh, watch your base price and I told him to grand and he was like, man.
2:40:16 And then he said something and then he looked down and I put, put the date in all my boots
2:40:22 when I make it.
2:40:23 There was a pair in there from 2017 and he was like, God Lee.
2:40:31 And the tops was wore smooth out and I was in the pro, or no, the tops was good, but the
2:40:36 bottoms, the vamps were, were wore out and, uh, man, I can, I can read, I can fox them.
2:40:44 Like I can make them things new again.
2:40:46 You know what I'm saying?
2:40:48 And he is like, what that boot cost in and I told him what it costs.
2:40:53 So he starts putting pen and piece or numbers together.
2:41:02 He's less than the Senate day.
2:41:04 He said, I went across town and bought some boots.
2:41:11 And I bought this mini pair from this mini from the, this, this many times and it was
2:41:19 like 12, I think he had spent 12 to 1500 on boots and they only lasted one year.
2:41:26 And I'm like, I'm like, bro, I'm telling you, go get, get on my list.
2:41:33 Let me build you a pair, get a pair to the last you till I can get these done.
2:41:38 And then once you, I get these done, get another pair, swap them out day in, day out.
2:41:44 And I guarantee you, if you'll take care of them and don't wear through the dad gum
2:41:47 insoles, like some of these people do, you think that like, I think some of these people
2:41:51 has got feet like Jesus.
2:41:53 You know what I'm saying?
2:41:54 Or Fred, Fred Flintstone.
2:41:55 You know what I mean?
2:41:56 Like, Hey, when it, when that thing starts getting a hole, take it and get it resold.
2:42:00 Yeah.
2:42:01 You know, take care of these boots.
2:42:02 If you'll take care of them and give them a drink of oil every once in a while and, and,
2:42:06 and, and brush the cow crap off or even the dust or blow them off with the, with the,
2:42:12 uh, air holes, I guarantee you things will change, like these boots will last.
2:42:17 And, and that's, that's the biggest thing is, is I don't just use, like I use the best
2:42:25 of leather because you pay for what you get.
2:42:30 You can go get boots cheaper, but you don't want to put like a two by four on the bottom
2:42:39 of your foot.
2:42:40 Yeah.
2:42:41 You want to have something that has a little bit like the day you put them on, you should
2:42:46 be feel like you've been wearing them for two weeks already.
2:42:48 Yeah.
2:42:49 That's how Ray explained it to me.
2:42:50 And that's, I mean, that's, that's really how it goes.
2:42:52 I appreciate getting into all that detail, but before too long, we, we should probably
2:42:55 get out here and get some lunch, but that works.
2:42:57 Cactus alley hat company.
2:42:58 Let's talk about them.
2:42:59 Cause you, you brought them up quite a bit on the show.
2:43:01 And so shout out you, you brought me a couple of hats for myself.
2:43:04 I'm a hat guy.
2:43:05 Kind of a hat junkie.
2:43:06 I moved from being a shoe junkie to a hat junkie.
2:43:07 So let's talk about cactus alley hat co cactus alley hat co was a joke.
2:43:10 I mean, just straight running joke, it was just a, yeah, it was a, it was a, my mom and
2:43:17 dad old used to own cactus alley court yards.
2:43:20 I had an embroidery shop.
2:43:22 I had a screen print shop.
2:43:23 I had my boot shop.
2:43:25 One day I just was like, you know what, we're going, we're going try out some cactus alley
2:43:29 hats.
2:43:30 Uh, I think I've had 12 cease and desist since, since then, um, there was, there was a guy
2:43:38 that, uh, Theo gone wore a hat on national television, bought a hat off of this word
2:43:44 on national television.
2:43:45 Uh, it was my real patch.
2:43:47 We got a cease and desist within 30 minutes.
2:43:50 It kind of, it kind of blew up after that.
2:43:52 Uh, you know, it's just, uh, we're a lifestyle brand.
2:43:56 We have a lot of funny stuff.
2:43:58 We have a lot of, uh, trucker hats.
2:44:00 We have a lot of printed hats.
2:44:02 Uh, I want to be different.
2:44:04 You know what I'm saying?
2:44:05 It's, uh, I try not to copy anybody around.
2:44:10 Um, and we've come up with a bunch of, uh, Aztec printed hats.
2:44:16 We are, uh, those are ones my, my wife likes.
2:44:18 She likes that kind of Aztec, the Mexico print, that kind of thing.
2:44:21 Yeah.
2:44:22 We'll, we'll, we'll get some on her on the way to her cause we have, we will, if she likes
2:44:26 the wild and the loud, then I've got the number of times she's like, tried to get me like
2:44:31 a jacket with that thing on and she's like, I don't really know.
2:44:34 Like for whatever is, she's drawn to that for her and also for me.
2:44:37 Yeah.
2:44:38 But it's, uh, so it's, it's one of them deals and, and I had a sales rep call me, uh, about
2:44:44 four years ago and I was like, Hey, I'm in Dallas.
2:44:46 I'd love to come on, and in literally, uh, I've got great sales reps, uh, that work
2:44:51 for me that sell, uh, that were, were, were, were scattered all over the United States.
2:44:57 We're in Canada.
2:44:58 We're in Australia.
2:44:59 We've got some, some accounts in Mexico, uh, literally it's, um, it's just been a, it's
2:45:07 been a very, very cool ride and it just keeps growing and growing.
2:45:12 I mean, we, we, we, we grew tremendously last year and you know, I know right now people
2:45:18 struggling and, uh, we're, we're, we're up from last year things are, things are, we're
2:45:25 going in, this is the fifth year and, uh, we're, we're in some big box stores and getting
2:45:30 into some more big box stores and literally it's, uh, me and my wife, um, I've got, uh,
2:45:38 two girls that, uh, worked for me that went through a face-based program like I did there
2:45:46 at, um, the dream center in, in Lubbock.
2:45:49 It's called the new legacy home and my first employee, um, is, is Aaron Whitlow that, uh,
2:45:57 graduated from the program and she runs my, my, uh, she runs our, I say mine.
2:46:04 Me and my wife, um, the, um, the wholesale side and then, uh, Isabel, uh, she graduated
2:46:12 from the program and, um, I had some other girls that, that was working there that they've
2:46:18 gone on and, and, and started their own stuff, but it's, I've got a lot of, I've got, uh,
2:46:27 three single moms that work for me that's, um, and literally it's a faith-based deal
2:46:32 where I, we, we, uh, read Jesus calling every morning, have prayer, uh, we do Bible studies
2:46:39 on Fridays, uh, uh, there was another girl that walked in, uh, that, that had a, had
2:46:45 some, some life altering issue, issue, uh, it's issues and she is like, I need a job.
2:46:53 Like, you know, I'm not going to take no for an answer.
2:46:57 And literally she, I hired her, uh, she, she runs my, uh, direct to film machine.
2:47:05 She runs my embroidery machine and like, I have a good group of employees and it's all
2:47:14 about like we love Jesus and we have, uh, we all have a story and it's like this.
2:47:23 We all, uh, thank God for many second chances.
2:47:28 You know what I'm saying?
2:47:29 I shouldn't say second chances.
2:47:31 I say, well, I say many second chances.
2:47:35 You know what I'm saying?
2:47:36 Yeah.
2:47:37 Because it's, it's, it's all about those chances.
2:47:38 You know what I'm saying?
2:47:40 And literally somebody took a chance on me.
2:47:42 So I've took a lot of chances on all these other, on all these other people.
2:47:45 And it's just, it's, uh, we're a family.
2:47:49 You know what I'm saying?
2:47:50 My dad worked for me.
2:47:51 Uh, my dad's still kind of, he told me he was going to quit the other day, but I, he'll,
2:47:55 he, them, them girls, a lot of them girls haven't had the father figure and, and big
2:48:03 pop is kind of being that way towards a lot of girls.
2:48:05 You know what I'm saying?
2:48:06 And it's just, um, man, we don't do life alone.
2:48:10 We're like, we're all in it together.
2:48:13 You know what I'm saying?
2:48:14 And I, I feel like we have the greatest set that's working for us right now.
2:48:19 And we're just, um, always coming up with new ideals, always coming up with new things.
2:48:25 And, and, uh, and God's good and, and, and God's real good.
2:48:30 Well, I'm thrilled for you guys.
2:48:31 I'm thrilled that things are going well in your business.
2:48:33 Cause you're right.
2:48:34 People are hurting right now, but it's great to support.
2:48:36 So guys, we'll make sure that the link to your, your custom boot shop, but also to
2:48:39 the Cactus Alley Hat Co is in the show notes, but man, we've gone everywhere in this conversation.
2:48:43 It's been awesome, but is there anything else you want to get off your chest before we get
2:48:46 out of here?
2:48:47 Man, I'm just going to tell you, if you're going through it, keep going.
2:48:50 Don't like, I just, man, there's so many drug addicts and alcoholics and just, I shouldn't
2:48:56 even go to life altering, let's, let's just call it life altering problems.
2:49:02 Yeah.
2:49:03 I mean, don't, don't think you're in it alone, just like, I mean, if I can encourage you
2:49:09 to just keep stepping, like, cause if God's taking care of the bees and the birds, he's
2:49:14 going to take care of you.
2:49:15 Amen.
2:49:16 And that's all I got.
2:49:17 Hey, man, brother.
2:49:18 All right.
