1:18
This is "Undaunted Life" a man's podcast.
1:22
I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
1:23
Let's get into it.
1:25
Hey, Joby Martin.
1:26
It is Election Day here in America, so you're smiling and all that, because guys, if you're
1:31
listening to this on time, it's Election Day, even though we recorded this in the past.
1:34
So it's kind of like, you know, we're cutting through the ether and bending the time space
1:39
continuum.
1:40
But I don't know if you know this, but there are a lot of people that are pretty stressed
1:42
out today.
1:43
So there are people that have a high level of anxiety because they're afraid that their
1:47
guy or their gal is not going to win this election.
1:49
It's coming from the left and the right.
1:52
So what is your message on this day?
1:54
Because guys, again, if you're listening to this on time, hopefully you've already voted
1:57
or those types of things, what is your message to the people that have all this anxiety
2:01
at the potential outcome of the presidential election, the future makeup of the United
2:05
States Senate and the United States House of Representatives?
2:10
That Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and no matter who is excited or
2:17
no matter who is distressed, although these elections matter, every single one of them
2:23
is very, very, very temporary in the light of eternity.
2:28
And that God is not in heaven.
2:29
He is not taking my locks and pacing the halls and going, Oh, no, he's also not going,
2:34
Oh, yes, that he is doing exactly what he does, which is rain in times of peace and in times
2:42
of chaos.
2:43
So may our hope be there for people that are overly distressed.
2:48
It could be because you've got a misplaced hope and for people that are overly excited,
2:53
it may be because you have a misplaced hope.
2:56
And so put your hope in Jesus and him alone.
3:00
So with that, I've had this thought and I say this without I know where we're typically
3:03
having a good time and saying things ingest, but for a lot of reasons this morning is more
3:07
serious than than most mornings.
3:10
I feel like because I don't like, I don't want to be hyperbolic about, you know, your
3:14
person not winning the election because, you know, what if Kamala Harris wins, but you
3:17
know, it's a Republican house and Senate.
3:19
Okay, that kind of pacifies what her administration can do blah, blah, all that kind of stuff.
3:23
But there is a part of me that thinks if Kamala Harris is elected, that she is our judgment
3:29
as a nation because we've seen all throughout scripture, God removing his blessing from nations,
3:33
his blessing from people.
3:36
And I mean, you could go back and there were people that could make that argument the exact
3:40
same way, but in the opposite, oh, Donald Trump is our judgment or Barack Obama was our judgment
3:44
or George W. Bush was our judgment.
3:45
I mean, I know that you could do this at infinitum, but there's a part of me that thinks because
3:50
of what she has said publicly, you know, willing to kill the filibuster rule in order to ram
3:55
through abortion legislation for the entire country, which could potentially lead to the
4:01
expansion and stacking of the Supreme Court, the adding of Washington, D.C. in Puerto Rico
4:06
as states thus giving Democrats almost a permanent majority in the Senate.
4:10
I think that there is a little bit of a Rubicon thing happening here to where it could be
4:13
our judgment.
4:14
What are your thoughts on that?
4:16
I think that again, man, gosh, we're we're like six weeks before this, right?
4:20
So, um, I've never I've never seen a group of people be so associated with death, like
4:32
policies that are pro-death, I mean, fighting wars that aren't our wars to fight.
4:39
That's death, allowing the Mount of Fentanyl to come over the border.
4:43
That's just death.
4:45
The amount of children that are being trafficked into our country and a group of people turning
4:49
their eye.
4:50
That's just death.
4:51
And then, of course, abortion is more than death.
4:54
It's a genocide.
4:55
Yeah.
4:56
And so, I do think there should be man, there should be a weeping and gnashing of teeth
5:02
if the people in our country are so blinded.
5:06
This isn't about tax policy and stuff anymore, man.
5:09
It's really not.
5:10
This is about death, people voting for death and calling it a right.
5:17
And, uh, yeah, man, God help us, God, God help us if that's the condition that we find
5:24
ourselves in, and so that should create a great angst in the life of the church.
5:30
You know, people that are actually the church, not the people that just attend buildings
5:33
on weekends, but people that claim Jesus Christ as a ruler and savior.
5:36
And not only should it be a weeping and gnashing of teeth, but it should also be a real call,
5:42
man, that oftentimes the church did her best work in some of the darkest times ever.
5:47
And the way, and our weapons of warfare are different.
5:50
They're different.
5:51
And I mean, that's a problem with the right and the conservative people is that they just
5:57
try to fight with the same weapons of warfare, you know, and the way the Christians toppled
6:02
Rome was by the implications of the gospel.
6:07
And you know what primarily was about?
6:08
It was about life.
6:09
They took care of babies that were being aborted.
6:12
They, uh, there was no racism.
6:14
This is one of my favorite thing, favorite lines, uh, to describe the first century
6:18
church, you know, it was about the second century is that, um, they did not share their
6:24
bed, but they did share their table.
6:27
In other words, obviously, you know, only men and women get married and only sleeping
6:31
with their spouses.
6:32
So they had a high sexual ethic and then, uh, but no matter who you are or where you're
6:37
from, then you were welcome at the table with a believer and it rocked the world of the
6:44
first century.
6:45
So the church was made for this moment, you know, the darker the night, bro, the brighter
6:47
the light shines, but, but you cannot overlook the number of the amount of death that comes
6:55
along with these kinds of decisions.
6:57
If it goes that way, uh, certainly, and that's why in a lot of ways, I think, especially
7:01
in your state of Florida, I would be way more concerned about whether or not amendment
7:06
for passes than whether or not Donald Trump wins.
7:10
And so again, those things are not completely unrelated, but if you're, if you're looking
7:15
for the ticker and waiting for your state to turn red and you're not even paying attention
7:18
to whether or not that gets to the 60% needed in order to pass, I would, uh, say that that's
7:24
potentially evidence of a seared consciousness and you're losing the fact that all politics
7:28
used to be local.
7:29
And the thing is, is when you lose sight of what's happening around you, when you don't
7:32
know the name of your sheriff, the person that runs your school board, uh, the dog catcher
7:36
in your community, those types of things, when you lose sight of that, you lose sight
7:39
of the fact that things happen to you legislatively locally before they happen to you nationally
7:44
but we got to move on to other.
7:46
Oh, hold on.
7:47
And one time it has called the doctrine of subsidiarity.
7:50
That's what it's called the doctrine of subsidiary, which in God's organization of communities
7:54
inside societies and even nations, that the smallest unit was the one best equipped to
8:01
handle the problems closest to home.
8:04
And when that not like above their pay grade, then you would go up one level.
8:09
Currently the society we live in is trying to give the highest level of authority, uh,
8:16
input into the most personal things like what does the federal government know about my
8:20
neighborhood in Jacksonville?
8:21
So it starts with my family and then it goes to a group of families and then it goes to
8:25
my community and then my city and then my state.
8:28
And so, um, yeah, the way God set it up is that the doctrine of subsidiarity.
8:33
The way our culture is trying to set it up is that top down rule from Washington and
8:39
they don't know anything about where I live and it's easier to fight battles on one front
8:43
as opposed to many.
8:44
So if you are in a various force wanting to force a populace of a particular area or country
8:50
into a certain type of totalitarianism, you can't really do that in a neighborhood by
8:54
neighborhood basis or a house by house basis.
8:56
You have to do it as a country wide basis.
8:59
So to get into another fun topic, this has been a terrible year for pastors.
9:03
You always talk about monies and honeys.
9:05
So honeys are getting the pastors this year.
9:06
And so you've got pastor Steve Lawson.
9:09
That has been disqualified from ministry.
9:10
You had pastor Tony Evans disqualified from ministry and then you have pastor Robert Morris.
9:15
Something completely different.
9:16
Apparently, uh, allegedly he is a pedophilic rapist.
9:19
And so this is all related to the question from Ryan Horn.
9:23
And I think it's a good one and an important one.
9:25
Do pastors have a right to privacy in regards to sin, for example, infidelity or should their
9:32
sin be shared with the flock and church discipline be displayed?
9:36
Also, would a pastor caught in infidelity be redeemable to the pulpit?
9:41
Or are they forever disqualified?
9:43
Uh, man, what a complicated question.
9:47
Um, so first and foremost, I guess we'll start with the last one.
9:52
Um, Timothy and Titus have qualifications for elders and pastors.
9:55
And if, if you step outside of those, you are by definition disqualified.
10:00
Are you necessarily disqualified forever?
10:02
I think it's kind of, okay, now I'm being a little subjective because I don't necessarily,
10:08
I can't think off the top of my head of a case study in the Bible where this was played
10:12
out.
10:13
Uh, a lot of people like to go to David in the Old Testament.
10:15
I don't know that that's the best example, however.
10:18
So probably I would say the severity of the sin or disqualification would determine the
10:25
level at which you could lead again in God's church.
10:29
Something like that, uh, because there is a difference in my opinion between a full on
10:35
affair and, uh, inappropriate text, either one would get you disqualified at the church.
10:41
I'd leave.
10:42
I would say not.
10:43
You can't be a pastor here.
10:44
If you're texting somebody like that, it's not your wife and it's inappropriate.
10:47
I would want to see from the pastor that had fallen or had been disqualified, there would
10:54
have to be a very, very long road of restoration, not back into the family as a covenant member,
11:02
but there would be a very long road in regards to having responsibility over people again
11:08
in regards to serving them as a shepherd.
11:10
So, um, and, and the pulpit for me would be the absolute last stop, not the first.
11:18
I mean the absolute last stop because in churches, man, whoever preaches, that guy has the
11:24
most influence and the most authority, and there's so many other places where you can
11:28
make disciples.
11:29
All right.
11:30
Now, the severity also has to do with it.
11:33
So in like if there is, uh, particularly sexual harm against an underage kid, I'm the boss
11:45
of this church.
11:47
There's no chance you're ever coming back on the staff.
11:49
There's no chance in the world.
11:51
People pray for you, well, I'm not saying you don't get to go to heaven because that's
11:55
how crazy and audacious the grace of Jesus is, but we don't hire about grace around here.
12:00
You know, we try to hire competent people that are qualified men and women to shepherd
12:05
the sheep and you have deemed yourself, uh, disqualified forever.
12:10
So the severity now in regards to the public, um, I think what horns got to think about
12:16
is not just the pastor that everybody wants to pile on, but all the collateral damage
12:22
of the other people that were hurt by this pastor who has sinned.
12:26
And I think the church owes it to all of those like for lack of a better word, innocent
12:30
bystanders to try to handle that as gently as possible, like for the sake of the children
12:37
of the pastor who they didn't have anything to do with it or the children of the person
12:41
that he or she cheated with, you know what I mean?
12:44
So sometimes that's what churches are thinking about, but all the people that are reading
12:50
the articles online, they're just into failure porn and they want to have all the details
12:54
about something that's not their business.
12:56
I also think there's a big difference between, is this your church?
12:59
Like if you're a covenant member at that church, I think there's a, uh, level of information
13:05
that you have access to because you're a covenant member of that church that is not necessarily
13:10
just open forum and just because we can share everything about everybody with everyone
13:16
on the world in the world because of the internet doesn't mean that we should.
13:20
And then there's also some things that people just don't think about man, there are some
13:24
legal realities and the church oftentimes is trying to thread the needle of doing exactly
13:31
what's right by the word of God and not breaking like libel or slander laws about a person,
13:37
you know, and so it churches, I mean, we found this in art, we fired several people because
13:44
they disqualified themselves, um, and, and we, man, it's sad, it's so sad for the families,
13:51
bro.
13:52
It is so sad for the families is so sad for the, for the sheep that they were caring for.
13:58
And one of the things that you just got to know, actually Chandler talked about this
14:03
when he was here and you and I were doing the podcast together and bro, it doesn't matter
14:07
what kind of procedures and policies your church has is a brother, if a brother or sister
14:12
decides to hide sin in the dark, then it's, I don't know how you can prevent these kinds
14:19
of things, you know, so the best you can do is definitely around children who have all
14:25
kind of policy and procedures to ever prevent the opportunity for somebody to be mistreated.
14:30
But you, the church, I think, I think the church is doing a better job of trying to take care
14:36
of the people that have been victims and sinned against and not just, uh, you know, expose
14:42
the person.
14:43
But yeah, man, it is brutal.
14:45
It's very, very, very brutal.
14:46
And I don't know why I'm so surprised, but every time I'm, they catches me off guard.
14:53
I every time I'm like him, well, Joe B, it catches me off guard, but I'm not surprised
14:59
because that's why I tell people all the time, please do not put your faith in me.
15:02
Don't put your faith in Joe B.
15:03
You put your faith in Matt Chandler, don't put your faith in Joe B. Martin, or I said
15:06
you again, but Vodie Bockham or John MacArthur, your, whatever your flavor or pastor is, please
15:11
don't put your faith in those people because it's the same people that had this attack
15:14
of conscience and attack of the gospel, essentially when Robbie Zacharias was, you know, the evidence
15:20
came out that he was a, you know, a sexual monster, right?
15:24
And so it's like, if you got saved at RZ, I am event, all of a sudden you're questioning
15:27
your salvation.
15:28
It's like, well, cause part of you put your faith in Christ and part of you seem to put
15:31
your faith in Robbie Zacharias and his ability to sound cool and philosophize.
15:34
And the other thing about the, the David thing that kind of falls apart here is, you know,
15:38
David wasn't an elder and a pastor, he was a king and so he was leading a nation and
15:42
not leading a flock.
15:43
And so like that you're, you're stretching at that point.
15:45
And we could, we could talk a little bit more about the subjectivity of the severity because
15:49
some people would say, you know, they would make the claim that the texts are severe because,
15:53
you know, of Jesus is standard of, of sexual impropriety or sexual immorality and things
15:57
like that.
15:58
You know, ultimately I feel like you, you cover the question there.
16:01
So let's move on to another controversial topic.
16:03
I didn't really stack it this way on purpose, but it just kind of is that way because here
16:07
recently, cause people, there are people that don't like that you and I are friends.
16:10
There are people that don't like that Matt Chandler and I are friends, but the biggest
16:13
thing that they hate about us is not that we wear black shirts is that we have tattoos.
16:17
So here's a question from BH tattoos are typically seen as bad by most churches, especially among
16:23
older generations.
16:24
Well, I don't think that people who have or get tattoos are outside of God's grace.
16:27
I do believe there are limits in terms of what tattoos you should, you would be able
16:31
to have while being of Christ.
16:34
For example, if you have a pentagram or a demonic or vulgar imagery tattooed on you,
16:38
I think a new believer should seek to get those removed.
16:41
Here's my question for Joby.
16:43
What do you think is the line for tattoos?
16:46
Is there one?
16:47
Should new believers remove any vulgar or demonic tattoos from their body?
16:52
Yeah, man.
16:54
So you're going to get into some speculation here, right?
16:57
But hopefully it's like by biblically informed.
16:59
I think like maybe a verse to go to would be something like, you know, in Ephesians 4
17:05
when Paul is instructing people on language and the same kind of guiding principles that
17:11
should instruct your language like it, it should be no corrupt communication should proceed
17:17
out of your mouth.
17:18
And only that which is helpful for the edification of those that hear it.
17:21
So in other words, also, I think a lot of it has to do with when you got the tattoo.
17:25
So yeah, I definitely don't believe a believer should be getting anything sinful or according
17:31
to the scriptures, although some people will look at your tattoos and say, well, that's
17:35
violence and violence is sinful to which you would have to be like, you need to keep reading
17:38
in the Bible.
17:39
Okay.
17:40
You haven't gotten to all the parts there, but you know, if you got naked ladies and stuff
17:43
on your arms, I, you know, my preference would be if you asked me, I might go, bro, I could
17:48
find some verses to point to, but I would, you know, I would cover up.
17:53
I would change things if you got things pointing to Satan.
17:57
One of the things I think I've told you this when when I was baptizing some guys with Jim
18:00
Bergen last month, two months ago in Colorado, he taught me that in the early church, when
18:06
people will get baptized, not only did they ask, who is Jesus to you?
18:10
And people say, Jesus is my Lord, but they would also say, do you renounce any association
18:15
affiliation that you have with the dark demonic Satan?
18:17
And so if you got a big devil tattoo on you, then I would get a, you know, I would continue
18:23
it with Jesus's head crush and Jesus crushing his head or so we're going through his head
18:26
or something like that.
18:28
So you know, the ones I have, I'm trying to either thank God for people that mean something
18:34
to me or point people to Jesus.
18:37
And so I think it comes down to the why you have what you have.
18:42
And that matters a bunch.
18:43
Hey guys, real quick.
18:45
Do you remember during the pandemic when you basically couldn't get anything shipped to
18:47
your house?
18:48
All this manufacturing that was supposed to be taking place in America had been shipped
18:51
overseas and you just didn't notice it.
18:53
And I remember a bunch of companies saying we're going to do everything we can to make
18:56
sure that we bring manufacturing back to America and almost none of them followed through on
19:00
that promise.
19:01
But for me and for all of us here at Undaunted Life, I wanted to make sure that I partnered
19:05
with an American company that actually did want to prioritize American workers, their
19:09
families, their communities and a company that would keep their word.
19:13
And that's why I want to remind you that we are partnered with Origin.
19:16
Origin is an apparel company based in Maine and what do they make?
19:19
They make the best jujitsu geese on the planet and the only jujitsu geese that are made completely
19:25
in America.
19:26
They also make jeans.
19:27
Yes, they have stretchy jeans.
19:28
They also have work jeans and boot cut jeans for you guys as well.
19:31
They make amazing hunting gear and here's the thing.
19:33
I know you guys like some other hunting brands, but those companies are American companies
19:38
that use overseas labor to increase their profit margins on their gear, not to help you
19:43
or Americans out.
19:45
They also offer handmade leather boots.
19:47
That does include steel toe boots and mock toe boots and they also make workout clothes
19:51
and everyday pants and shirts and almost indestructible hoodies and they're launching new apparel
19:55
all the time.
19:56
Guys, if you haven't already tried Origin stuff, you need to check them out and support a company
20:00
that supports Americans.
20:03
Try Origin out today by going to www.originusa.com.
20:07
That's originusa.com.
20:09
Use the promo code Undaunted to get 10% off your order.
20:13
Again, that's originusa.com.
20:15
Promo code Undaunted to get 10% off your order.
20:19
And just briefly, this has been elucidated a bunch, but there are people, again, kind
20:22
of older, funny, duddy types that are just like any marking on your body whatsoever.
20:27
They do use Leviticus out of context.
20:30
Just go ahead.
20:31
I think we may have talked about this before, but again, to people that say that markings
20:34
of any kind on your body, although they do leave out piercings and so you'll have women
20:38
with pier steers that are making claims about tattoos, but what is the verse and how should
20:43
it be viewed?
20:46
You got to read the context of that for sure.
20:49
You got to understand that that was talking about having allegiance to a different Lord.
20:53
So I agree you should not have things on your body that say you haven't allegiance to anybody
20:56
other than Jesus, but the heart of those commands and Leviticus are true, but Jesus fulfilled
21:04
all the holiness code of the old covenant.
21:06
So he is our Yes and Amen and every promise of God.
21:09
And so I obviously am trying to point people to Jesus with my whole life, including the
21:14
things I've decided to put all over me and I'm getting more.
21:17
It actually works out good for me because if you show up to our church and you're like,
21:22
I'm not going here because I don't like your tattoos, please, thank you.
21:26
Thank you.
21:27
Thank you.
21:28
Thank you.
21:29
Thank you.
21:30
Thank you.
21:31
Thank you.
21:32
You're saying to me if you're not going to respond.
21:33
Yeah, dude.
21:34
Yeah, man.
21:35
I mean, you know, yeah, you're right.
21:36
We're not your church.
21:37
We're not your church.
21:38
We're not like the human beings that Jesus is saving here.
21:41
And so, you know, I would gladly give you the address of another church and you can go
21:46
be miserable there.
21:47
When it goes back to things I've talked about for their people that, you know, I've shared
21:50
songs or music videos from metal bands and they're like, there are skulls in this artwork
21:56
and skulls are indicative of death.
21:58
And I'm like, or skulls are like a cool thing that God made.
22:02
It's an anatomical structure, right?
22:04
Of your body.
22:05
It's part of the skeletal structure.
22:06
See, that's what a skull is.
22:08
Now if I have the skull and I mean to use it in a way that is pointing to death and
22:12
the worship therein, probably an issue, but I don't think we got an issue there.
22:17
So let's go to the next question here.
22:18
This is actually for me.
22:19
I just kind of had this thought and I jotted it down.
22:21
And I know you can't actually know the answer to this.
22:23
So here we are in subjective ville again.
22:25
But why do you think that Jesus was never married and didn't father children?
22:33
Because he will marry the church.
22:36
So it's a very limited view.
22:38
You know, the idea that Jesus was never married on the, on earth, you just kind of keep going.
22:44
You know, you talk so much about he only came as a suffering servant once.
22:48
That is currently not what he is doing.
22:51
So Christ eternal marital status will be married to in his bride is the church.
22:57
Now I know now Paul says in emphasis, this is a mystery, yeah, but I can't even explain,
23:04
but that is it that, you know, there's a big myth in the world, especially America.
23:12
And the greatest thing we can do is fulfill, fulfill our potential.
23:15
That is a lie.
23:16
Paul says, no, no, no, no, no, no, you don't fulfill your potential.
23:20
You fulfill your calling.
23:21
And if you've been called to be married, you are going to have less potential in the kingdom
23:26
of God.
23:28
I don't know that Jesus could have done or humanly speaking, you can do whatever he wants.
23:32
He's not asking me for permission.
23:34
Humanly speaking, Jesus married with kids does not have the same availability to be wherever
23:41
he needs to be at all times because he has other responsibilities.
23:45
Similarly speaking, my potential for ministry and your potential for ministry has diminished
23:50
greatly because we have another ministry at home called our wife and kids, right?
23:55
And that is God's calling our life.
23:56
And that's what me and you should do because that's what God's called us to do.
23:59
But if all, I could preach so much more and leave way more people to Jesus if I, if that's
24:04
all I did was be married to the church.
24:06
So when Paul says, I wish some of you were like me, that you would be single, it's so
24:10
that all of your time, effort and energy, love and devotion could be to Christ, Brad,
24:15
the church and you could serve her full time.
24:17
So that's what Jesus did.
24:20
All right.
24:21
Let's keep this train moving.
24:22
This is a question from Brad.
24:23
Brad is a monthly donor.
24:24
Thank you for being a monthly donor.
24:26
I go to church with Joby.
24:28
So apparently you said that before he goes to church with Joby and he's just amazed every
24:31
week at how the Lord is working through you.
24:34
I just recently surrendered my life to Christ last July.
24:36
I've been serving in the church for the last nine months.
24:39
I try consuming as many podcasts and books as I can to strengthen my faith.
24:42
I recently stumbled upon an interview where somebody was talking about the book of Enoch.
24:47
Is this book something you'd recommend for believers to read and what are your thoughts
24:50
on it?
24:51
If you want to, you can, you just have to make sure that you know that there is actually
24:57
a book in Enoch.
24:58
It is historically a thing, but it is in no way in the same realm as the revealed word
25:06
of God or the canon of Scripture.
25:08
And so if there's anything in the book of Enoch and the Bible refers to that book, but
25:14
the Bible is authoritative.
25:17
Any other written thing by man could be helpful to know, but it could also be used as a distraction
25:23
by the enemy.
25:24
And even the enemy will sometimes even use our very own Bible to try to distract us,
25:29
see Jesus being tempted in the desert.
25:32
So yeah, yeah, you can read whatever you want, just do it with caution.
25:36
So with that in mind, because I know I pick on it and kind of call it funny, but do you
25:40
think the devil is using something like the message version of the Bible in the same way?
25:44
And what I mean is because the message is not a, it is an interpretation of Scripture.
25:49
It is not a, you know, a translation, right?
25:55
It's not a transcription that's taken to translation.
25:57
It's a description taken to, and I hear people like it makes me cringe when I'm reading a
26:02
book and they have a scriptural references and then it says MSG and I'm just like, oh,
26:06
this isn't like this is, this is not, this is not good.
26:10
It's like it's giving you a Bible adjacent is what it feels like.
26:15
What do you think?
26:16
Yeah, I'm a bit of a stickler on this one is if I'm in a, if I'm in an environment where
26:20
somebody calls, it says the message translation, I'll go, whoa, whoa, whoa, that is the, you
26:25
mean interpretation that that's Eugene Peterson's interpretation of the Bible.
26:31
So that is not authoritative.
26:34
It's not.
26:35
It is the equivalent, it's a bet, it's better, it's like, you know, he's smarter than me,
26:41
but you reading that would be the equivalent of you reading a transcript of my sermon.
26:47
Like that, that's my interpretation of these verses and sometimes I'll summarize a biblical
26:53
story.
26:54
That's not authoritative.
26:55
I'm just kind of like, ah, here's kind of the high points and I might get those wrong.
26:58
Right.
26:59
But if what, what the message would be like, cause I do it all the time.
27:03
I do it all the time.
27:05
But if you, but if I wrote it on a piece of paper and then you quoted me as if you're
27:09
quoting the Bible, that is no, no, no, no.
27:12
Now the reason that he did it, all he was trying to do is trying to help people in his
27:16
church understand it.
27:17
That's, you know, and it started, but he just did one book.
27:19
He's just started with like Psalms or something.
27:21
And then it got so popular that then he did the whole Bible.
27:24
But you've got to understand that is not a, it is not authoritative period.
27:29
You got, it can only, like if you try to live off supplements, you're going to die.
27:34
But the message interpretation is a supplement to the Bible.
27:39
It is not the double edged sword.
27:41
It is not alive.
27:43
It is not.
27:44
It is not.
27:45
It is not.
27:46
And yet there's, there's a couple of places I use it cause I'll say like, uh, John one
27:50
14 says, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us, Eugene Peterson's interpretation
27:54
says, and the word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood.
27:57
And then I'll talk about what that means.
27:59
But the Bible does not say that the word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood.
28:03
Eugene Peterson said that's what it means.
28:06
You got to make that distinction.
28:07
All right.
28:08
Very good.
28:09
We got a little bit of time left.
28:10
I got a couple more questions.
28:11
These should be pretty quick though.
28:12
This is from Matt Grasmire, the forging table.
28:13
Thanks for the question.
28:14
Matt, is there biblical support for Christians being cremated?
28:18
This seems like a pagan thing, but I know a lot of Christians that have done that or
28:22
planned to, uh, you're not going to hell if you do, but you shouldn't get cremated.
28:27
Uh, it, it shows a lack of dignity towards the body.
28:31
And it's a bit Gnostic, like that my soul is what matters, but my body doesn't, but that's
28:37
not the biblical worldview is that your body matters a lot.
28:40
You were fearfully one if we made you were knit together in your mother's womb, that
28:43
at the resurrection, your soul will be reunited with a glorified body.
28:48
This doesn't mean that you're not going to, that's not going to happen.
28:51
Cause like if you burned up in a car fire, somehow God's going to be able to put all the
28:55
particle back together.
28:57
However, what it does show, most people do it for the wrong reasons, like to save
29:01
money or stuff like that.
29:02
And so the, I would highly advise for people to show dignity towards the physical body that
29:11
God made and for it to be laid to rest, um, as an act of worship unto the Lord, showing
29:18
dignity to the thing that God had made.
29:21
And so I think it's a poor stewardship issue to get cremated.
29:24
It won't keep you out of heaven though, cause Jesus died for our sins.
29:27
And I don't even know if it qualifies sins, especially if you didn't know it, but now
29:30
you do know.
29:31
So don't do it.
29:32
Well, now let's talk about something that people will say, if you do it, you're definitely
29:35
not going to heaven.
29:36
Last question of the day.
29:37
This one's for me.
29:38
Is it okay for Christians to do yoga?
29:40
Uh, who, I mean, if you're dumb and don't know any better, yes, but you, I would not
29:47
do yoga.
29:48
It is, it, I mean, it's, it's like an ancient form of worship.
29:54
Now I do think you could redeem the things and you could do some other thing where you
29:58
stretch and breathe, but you better call it stretching and breathing.
30:01
Right.
30:02
I would be very careful about putting some demonic name.
30:04
Dude, I'm telling you the older I get, the more I do this stuff, um, I may be hanging
30:08
out with Charles Martin too much, but he's the guy that says, you know, some people see
30:11
a demon behind every bush.
30:13
I see too.
30:14
And so I would not want you to open yourself up to anything dark or demonic in your life.
30:18
And I'm telling you, if you get in some room with a bunch of sweaty women, and hopefully
30:22
this is not a man asking this question, and you like contort yourself in historically
30:28
what has been a worship posture and somebody up front is telling you to do demonic things
30:33
like empty your mind of all thought.
30:35
And you're saying, yeah, but I'm just praying, okay, well, then, then you start a pray and
30:39
stretch thing and do not copy those things, but go see a, uh, you know, a doctor or personal
30:46
trainer and say, Hey, what are the best nonhistorically worship posture?
30:51
Like just divorce it of all that.
30:53
So if you want to go in a room and stretch and pray, praise God for stretching and praying
30:57
and don't run on wrong with that, I would avoid anything with a dark demonic history.
31:02
And this is overt, man.
31:04
I would, I would avoid that with everything I made us.
31:07
And this is what I've told people, I've told people the posture of your heart makes a big
31:10
difference because there are only a few things you can do to stretch your stomach and upward
31:15
dog is probably the best one.
31:17
But if you were doing upward dog while doing breath work while doing Ohms while emptying
31:21
your mind.
31:22
It's like, no, sir, can't do that.
31:23
Don't hook your ponytail to the tree.
31:25
Like holding certain poses that does help with connective tissue and connective muscle.
31:30
All that's positive.
31:31
Like I, I've done different like 30, 45 minute yoga things to, you know, help open up my hips
31:35
and things like that.
31:36
But when they start doing the silly little Ohms and just kind of empty all that, I'm like,
31:40
shut up idiot.
31:41
Like just tell me what the next thing is.
31:42
Yeah.
31:43
But also don't just put Christian in front of it, Christian yoga is like a meat eating
31:46
vegetarian.
31:47
Yeah.
31:48
No, no, no, no, that's not it.
31:49
Dude.
31:50
Just call it prayer and stretching or Jesus movements on the glory of God.
31:54
Like I would redeem that thing and, you know, eat the fish spit out the bones.
31:59
But I'm telling you, man, the people so many people have unknowingly opened up themselves
32:04
and their family and generations to the dark arts and darkness and the demonic.
32:10
And we as believers need to do everything we can to pronounce any area.
32:15
We don't need to give the devil a foothold that that verse primarily has to do with anger,
32:19
but I bet he'll take a foothold anywhere he can to infiltrate your life.
32:23
Amen.
32:24
That's all for me.
32:25
Is there anything else you want to get off your chest?
32:26
Man, praying for you, buddy.
32:28
I know you've been through it.
32:30
It just keeps coming.
32:31
This has been a high year and a low year for a lot of reasons, but it is what it is.
32:34
Appreciate you, Joby.
32:35
We'll talk again next month.
32:36
All right.
32:37
