I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.
0:57
Joe B. Martin, welcome back to the show, but you know the rules. If you're going to wear
1:00
a hat, it's got to be one of mine. What's the deal? I wear your hats all the time, but
1:05
I don't know. I got this one on today. You know what it is interesting though, is you
1:09
will be speaking somewhere and you'll be wearing one of my hats and the official uniform of
1:14
Undaunted Life of Man's Podcast, which is a black V-neck. And I'll get pictures from
1:18
people. They'll just send me pictures and be like, "Ah, he's doing your hat." And I
1:21
was like, "Well, yeah, I mean, it's a dope hat. It's a good logo." And you know, he's
1:24
a big supporter. So I appreciate you wearing it around. It's a good thing.
1:28
I especially do it at men's events because, you know, like when guys want to talk afterwards,
1:33
a lot of them come, they're like, "Oh, listen to Undaunted." Then I kind of know who I'm
1:37
talking to, too. It's good. I put them in a positive category.
1:41
That's right. That's right. Well, hey, let's see if we can get you in the negative category
1:44
with some of these questions. But here's the thing. This is the first ask capacitor of 2025,
1:48
if you can believe. I don't know how many of these that we've done, but this is coming
1:51
out right at the beginning of 2025. And here's the thing, I hate an entire category of people.
1:57
And I think that's biblical. You're allowed to hate entire categories of people, right?
2:01
And it's new year, new me people. So these are the people that are convinced that this
2:05
is the year. This is the year that they get their drinking under control. This is the
2:09
year they finally get in shape. This is the year that they're going to make their wife
2:12
love them again. This is the year they're going to take Bible study seriously and guess
2:16
what, Joby? Before we even get to spring break, just about all those people fall completely
2:21
flat. So what's your philosophy about all these kind of new year, new me folks?
2:27
I mean, their intentions are okay. They're just, they're actually confusing a very biblical
2:31
concept. The biblical concept would be repentance. And so an actual, like, hey, new year, new
2:39
me would be to change your mind that would lead to a change in direction. Praise God
2:45
for that. But remorse and resolution will never work because it's always rooted in the self.
2:51
And you don't like you are not the solution to you. That's the problem. The real solution
2:57
is to repent to know Jesus, to abide in him. And as you go close to him, the fruit of the
3:02
spirit will begin to emerge out of you and will be produced, not manufactured too many
3:07
New Year's resolutions are manufactured activities, but things I love, joy, peace, patience,
3:12
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, generalness and maybe the biggest one for New Year's and
3:16
self control is a fruit that is produced from the inside out. So if your change in lifestyle
3:22
is rooted in repentance, I'm going to rewire my mind to line it up with the scriptures
3:27
to act a different way. Go for it. If it's remorse and resolution based in your flesh,
3:33
then you will fail because you are a failure. That's right. You heard it here. First guys,
3:39
you all suck. You're all failures. And there's no hope for any of us. That's exactly what
3:43
Joby just said, right? But you, you talk about this in a different say, I can't remember
3:47
the words you use. I know, I know you talk about resilience a lot, but like when you
3:50
talk about when you have decided that you're going to the gym, regardless of whether you
3:54
want to or not, pre decision, pre decided, right? Same thing, man. So again, that would
4:00
be way more in line with repentance. You have re metanoia is the Greek word. It means to
4:07
change your mind. So you have rewired your mind that this is just what you do. And I also
4:13
think I don't know who I've heard talk about this, but when you begin to see yourself the
4:17
way God sees you, you'll begin to do the things he says. It's kind of like people that see
4:22
themselves as an athlete, they train because they're that's who they are. They're not just
4:28
trying to improve a part of their life. You know, and so I think that's the mindset that
4:34
you've got to change. When it's something like, you know, I talk about resilience all
4:37
the time, not strength and it's like resilience is not just something that you do here in their
4:42
resilience is a state of mind. It's a state of being. It's, it's what you do and resilience
4:47
begets resilience. But guess what? The bill comes do every day. And that normally starts
4:52
right there. First thing in the morning, when all you want to do is just stay curled up in
4:56
that warm bed of yours. But it's like, no, I'm going to drag just like this morning, man,
5:00
dragged myself into my garage. And I was like, ah, I got to put weight on the bar and got
5:04
to lift it and put it back down and lift it again over and over. But it's what's required
5:08
to you if you want, because every here's the thing with your body, guys, is pain's coming
5:12
for you regardless. You're going to have pain from use or pain from numb use. And I got to
5:16
be honest with you, I'd rather have pain from being strong than pain from not being strong.
5:20
All right. I think also, don't you think people also make whatever kind of self control that
5:27
you demonstrated in your life, people usually just take their hands off the wheel from like
5:30
Thanksgiving to Christmas. And so the New Year's resolution, they think is going to make up
5:35
for about eight weeks of just being a turd. And so I know this is well past that. But if
5:40
you really want to make a difference, you start resolving in your mind, pre Thanksgiving.
5:45
This is how I'm going to act over the next several weeks so that when I get to January,
5:49
I'm not a complete sack.
5:51
Well, that's why I say to people all the time, it's like, look, this is just another day
5:55
that ends and why? Because people will put extra emphasis on a Monday, because it's at
6:00
the beginning of the work week or on a Saturday, because it's first day of the week and bro,
6:04
this is a day that ends and why this is a day where you get after it, right? So it doesn't
6:08
matter if it's your birthday. It doesn't matter if it's Christmas. It doesn't matter any of
6:11
that. Now if you're traveling and all that, again, I'm being somewhat tongue in cheek
6:15
here, but that's the reality is the there there are requirements of you at all times. Imagine
6:19
you saying, Oh, I'm not going to love my wife as Christ love the church today. It's my birthday.
6:24
Like, I think that wouldn't make any sense to anybody. They'd be like, what a lunatic.
6:28
Like why in the world are you even saying something like that? But hey, let's get into
6:31
the first non Kyle question of 2025. And I hate to do it, but it's actually a good question.
6:37
So we got to give it up to Ryan Horn every now and then he finds a good question. So the
6:41
forging table or that Joby loved here is his question. Let's say that you've been going
6:45
to a church for a couple of years and the pastor starts espousing some ideas and is
6:50
bringing in speakers whose messages are antithetical to the Bible. How do you go about talking
6:55
to your pastor? If they say this isn't the place for you, how does one go about leaving
7:01
but not leaving fellow brothers and sisters stranded there? And so he's asking that question.
7:06
This was a real life situation that Ryan was going through. This was before I knew him,
7:10
but he actually went through a situation very similar to this. He was very concerned about
7:13
some of the things that the pastor started to say. And, you know, Horn in a very, as
7:18
far as he tells the story in a very curious and loving, but also very, you know, steadfast
7:25
way was like, Hey, I don't know that this is right. I don't think this is biblically.
7:27
You can't prove it biblically. And the pastor just said, Yeah, I don't think I don't think
7:31
you should be here anymore. So what do you think about how you should handle a situation
7:34
like that?
7:35
Yeah, I think, well, I think he did the right thing. He because if you're preaching anything
7:40
other than the Bible, you are sinning. And if you are hearing those words, you are being
7:45
sinned against. And Matthew 18 says, if somebody sins against you, if your brother sins against
7:50
you, you talk to him, not about him. So Horn did the right thing. You go and talk to the
7:55
pastor and dude, you heard it from the guy's mouth. If he said, this is not the place for
7:59
you, then, you know, not to dust off your shoes and go. But in so doing, you should take the
8:06
high road and you should be very honest with all the people that are that you have built
8:12
relationships on the why. I don't think you have to necessarily go hunting, you know,
8:17
and do a whole like campaign on why you were leaving. But if you were, if you're really
8:22
doing what you ought to be doing in church, you should at least be in a Sunday school
8:25
or a disciple group or a small group or a life group or whatever you call it. And I would
8:29
at least alert those people. Guys, the reason my family and I are leaving are because these
8:35
biblical reasons. You do whatever you think the Lord is calling you to do, but this is
8:42
and we're going to another church that is alignment with the scriptures. Now, if I was
8:46
with him or I might dig in a little bit just to make sure there are some things that churches
8:52
might differ on and to quote Driscoll, there are some things that are like state borders
8:58
and some things that are national borders. And you can cross state borders and you're
9:03
still in the United States. But if you cross national borders, then you're not in this
9:07
country anymore. So if he's if the guys preaching things that are, you know, that Jesus wasn't
9:15
divine or the Christ isn't the only way or that he didn't come out of the grave or that
9:20
the Bible is is is not in, you know, if it's not infallible, things like that, those would
9:25
be worth leaving on. There could be secondary issues that I would want to dig in with him
9:30
and just make sure that he wasn't leaving based on secondary issues. But if you want
9:35
to leave on secondary issues, that's fine too. You just want to be clear about that.
9:38
Well, so I'm glad you made the delineation between primary issues and secondary issues
9:42
because then you get into tertiary and all kinds of other different issues. But part
9:45
of the thing is, is if a if you can acknowledge in in your own intellectual honesty that what's
9:51
happening here is a secondary issue, but that it is also violating your conscience, then
9:57
yeah, you probably don't need to be at that church as well because I mean, this came up
10:00
I remember into last year, it always comes up with Halloween. There are some Christians
10:03
that are like, it's no big deal. My kids is dressing up as Buzz Lightyear and Leonardo
10:06
from the Ninja Turtles. We're just going and getting candy and we're not worshiping Satan.
10:10
And then there's other people that are like, if you participate in Halloween, even if it's
10:13
called a fall festival and it's in your church parking lot, you're going to hell. And the
10:16
thing is is like, look, if you feel that way about your own family and you don't want to
10:21
do that and you don't want to participate, you don't even want to hand out candy, then
10:24
okay, fine. That's not a big deal. Don't extrapolate that out into an entire worldview,
10:28
though, that you espouse, you know, in a disgusting and loud way all over your neighbors. Is that
10:34
fair? Very, very fair. It'd be very, it's very close to what Paula dresses in food sacrifice
10:40
to idols. There's what's right. And there's what's wrong. He's like, dude, they're not
10:44
even idols. It's like a half of a chair leg, somebody carved a face into. But if your conscience
10:49
does not allow you to eat because that food has been sacrificed to that fake idol, I get
10:54
it. So it, you know, the biggest thing is we try to love and honor one another while standing
10:59
on the truth.
11:00
All right, very good. Well, here's our first listener question. Guys, again, remember,
11:04
if you want to have your questions put into the question bang for ask a pastor, you have
11:07
to be a monthly donor to undaunted life. So go to undaunted.life backslash donate. This
11:12
is from Ben. Thank you, Ben, for being a donor. This is a long setup, but I think it's good
11:17
for the question. I would say the majority of evangelical churches today use large amounts
11:21
of emotionalism during their during their services that I believe can help people turn
11:26
to Christ. However, as we all know, emotionalism drives people to undertake ideas and actions
11:32
that they normally would not. This is typically expressed as the church at summer church camp,
11:38
where in all the girls start crying on the final night and they supposedly give their
11:42
lives to Christ and then change nothing after they go home and the emotions wear off. Evangelical
11:47
churches are also typically low church, meaning they do not place an emphasis on knowledge
11:52
of scripture. Do not engage in any sort of reverence in terms of decorum or tradition
11:56
and do not exhort their members to have any serious growth in their understanding of the
12:01
faith or develop an apologia, thus leading to lots of folks, lots of folks's faith being
12:07
false. See Kanye West. So here's my question for Joby. Given these factors, is it understandable
12:14
to have initial doubts when a person who's led a hedonistic life tells you that they've
12:18
been saved? Is it normal to want to see some fruit first? Or do I just need to check myself?
12:25
You need to check yourself. You also need to check your categorization of what you're
12:28
calling the evangelical churches. I think what he means is like big box secret sensitive
12:32
churches, not evangelical churches. I mean, because, you know, part of the premise of
12:37
being an evangelical church is like a deep commitment to the word of God. And he's saying
12:41
the evangelical churches are light on the word of God. So I think he's got his categories
12:45
wrong to start with. Because we're, we're a big church and we have lots of people come
12:50
to Christ. And I don't think there's any way you could come and sit here under this Bible
12:55
teaching and say that we have a low view of scripture or that we have a low threshold
13:01
of what it means to be a disciple. So I think what he means is like what you talk about,
13:06
especially when you used to talk about, you know, the big box secret sensitive, do whatever
13:11
it takes to get him in the door. You know, that kind of thing. To that, I would agree.
13:16
Me, you and Chandler were doing a podcast here and we talked about the subject. And if you've
13:24
got good sound doctrinal Bible preaching, then you don't have to fear an emotional response
13:31
and a service because it's going to course correct with every single week, you're opening
13:35
God's word and you're digging into what God's word says. And you're not trying to manipulate
13:43
people, you're just trying to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
13:47
I would encourage this brother, Ben, to you want to be, you want to celebrate any positive
13:55
step towards Jesus that you can as opposed to over evaluate any step. So yeah, you should
14:06
check your heart. Like you want those people to be safe, right? You're hoping that they,
14:11
but then Jesus teaches the, the parable of the solar, you know, I mean, somebody's casting
14:18
the seed and only a quarter of it works. And you know, 50% of it looks like it works at
14:24
first, but it doesn't. And so Jesus acknowledges that that happens. But listen, man, because
14:31
when you get into like the fruit inspector kind of thing, man, I'm just telling you, you're
14:35
about that far away from being a Pharisee. Because oftentimes what we're inspecting is
14:40
we're inspecting some kind of, we've ordered it in a man went man made preference way.
14:46
And if you don't do the things that I think are most important, then somehow you're not
14:51
being sanctified, but nobody checks the sanctification boxes in the right in the same order because,
14:56
you know, God may be dealing with a, with a pride issue in you that I can't see, but
15:01
he hasn't dealt with the language issue yet. And you're still cussing like a sailor. And
15:06
then what am I going to evaluate that and say, well, you're not a Christian, you still
15:10
say bad words. Whereas the guy next to you, God might deal with his language immediately,
15:15
but then the pride's like the granddaddy of all sins. And he's still the most prideful
15:18
arrogant guy that doesn't bend his name to Jesus, but he's learned how to talk like church
15:22
people. So you just want to be really, really careful in judging other people's hearts.
15:29
If somebody believes in their heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confesses with
15:33
their mouth that he is their Lord, the Bible says they're saved. And then we want to come
15:37
along and help those people take steps and what it means to actually be a follower of
15:42
Jesus.
15:43
Hey guys, real quick, as you've heard me describe before, I am incredibly conservative about
15:47
the supplements that I take. I spent years being terrified of putting different products
15:52
in my body because I didn't know what they were made with or if it was going to be kind
15:55
of fly by night companies using all kinds of crazy ingredients. So I've always wanted
16:00
to partner with an American company that only uses the highest quality ingredients. And
16:05
that's why I want to remind you that we are partnered with Jocko fuel. Jocko fuel is
16:09
Jocko willing supplement company that is based here in the United States. So what are some
16:13
of my favorite products that they make? So they make whey protein powder and guys, they
16:17
just released a cookies and cream flavor not that long ago and it is ridiculously good.
16:21
Make sure you use it with milk makes it even better. They also make clean energy drinks.
16:25
I finally decided what my favorite was and that's pink lemonade. That is my favorite
16:28
of all their flavors. But they also have the best tasting greens powder on the market.
16:33
I prefer the peach flavor myself. They also make pre workout and ready to drink protein.
16:37
So I actually mix the ready to drink protein in my boy's milk and they love it. They're
16:41
constantly like dad to have banana milk banana milk. So we got to hook that up in the Thompson
16:45
household. But I also use their krill oil, fish oil, creatine, vitamin D and their sleep
16:51
aids. And guys, they've got new stuff coming out all the time and a bunch of stuff I didn't
16:54
even have time to mention. Guys, if you take your health and wellness seriously, then you
16:58
simply can't afford to put cheap and inconsistent supplements inside of your body. Try origin
17:03
out today by going to www.jockofuel.com. That's jockofuel.com. Use the promo code undaunted
17:10

17:18
What I think is perhaps a larger part of his question is the whole emotionalism thing.
17:23
The church can phenomenon where you're raising your hands, everyone's going crazy crying,
17:26
tears, snot and all that. I can't remember if it was moody or Spurgeon or something like
17:30
that. But I'm going to, I'm going to jack the story up. But I think the general just
17:34
will be true. I think Spurgeon took over church for somebody or maybe it was the person that
17:39
took over Spurgeon's church. And the previous person, whoever that was, they would always
17:44
do an altar call. And then it was either Spurgeon that took over, whoever took over for Spurgeon.
17:49
For Spurgeon, here we go. They would not do an altar call. And then, you know, someone
17:53
asked them, like, why aren't you doing that? He's like, well, I have, I have office hours
17:56
on Monday morning. And so if they want to come in and get counsel, it should that feeling
18:01
or that, that decision or that, whatever is still going to be there Monday, you know,
18:05
regardless of whether or not it was whipped up on Sunday morning. And so I can see where
18:10
there could be like this thing. It's almost like, again, the John MacArthur, nobody's
18:13
fruit is sweet enough approach to where it's like, Hey, it's not people falling out in
18:17
the aisles necessarily. There might be people that in their sober mindedness, they have,
18:23
either they make the decision or the decision was made for them by God before anything was
18:26
ever invented. But then it's just, it's just a reality that will be the same the next day
18:31
after the smoke had cleared during the rock concert. Does that make sense? Yeah, I hear
18:36
you on that. So I think, you know, there's old Scottish proverb for every mile of road.
18:41
There's two miles of ditch. Yeah. And the one, the one side is we're going to give an invitation
18:45
every single time. And we're going to try to over emotionalize this thing and help and
18:50
try to get people to make an emotional decision instead of surrender to life to Christ. The
18:54
other ditch is we don't give it a people an opportunity. You know, the thief on the cross,
18:59
Jesus didn't look at him and be like, listen, if it, if this really, if you really want
19:04
to follow me, then you can four hours from now before you die. He's like, no, today you
19:08
will be with me in paradise. Like he sealed the deal in a moment. Joshua looks at the
19:12
nation of Israel and says, choose for yourself this day whom you will serve. So he drew a
19:17
line in a sand and said, now is the time to make a decision. Um, the Ethiopian Munich says,
19:24
there's water. What hinders me from getting baptized and he wasn't, he wasn't Philip didn't
19:29
tell him, but you know what? Why don't you wait a week and you'll have a meeting with
19:31
somebody? So I do think there is, uh, no, we are not promised tomorrow. So you do not
19:37
know, it is presumptuous to say your office hours are on Monday. James said, don't you
19:41
do that. You don't know that God's going to give you office hours on Monday. So I would
19:46
highly encourage people to surrender their life to Jesus right now. Like if you're listening
19:52
to this right now, right around in your truck and you're thinking about following Jesus,
19:57
do it right now. Put your faith in Jesus right now. So if they pay, I don't want to
20:02
be pedantic, pedantic about this, but if they put their faith in Jesus right now, what does
20:06
it matter if the guy has office hours or if they just take you right to the baptismal right
20:10
now? Well, we wanted him to know what he's doing. Uh, I would say if he knows what he's
20:15
doing, he should get baptized right now. That'd be great. Um, the key is, is that salvation
20:23
shouldn't be so transactional. It's supposed to be transformational and we're calling into
20:28
a church family. And then we help each other take steps to continuously follow Jesus or
20:34
to become more and more sanctified, which would be to be more and more like him. So the caution
20:40
on, you know, on the immediate decision is, let's just make sure you know what you're
20:46
doing and you're not just caught up in groupthink. Uh, but then the hesitation on the other end
20:53
is you should make a call for people to put their faith in Jesus right now. Okay, very
20:59
good. Well, let's move on to the next one here. So this is also in kind of the world
21:02
of salvation. This is a question for me. I was just wondering why does hell have to
21:07
include suffering? So guys don't think I'm getting all squishy in 2025, but why can't
21:13
the lights just go out for somebody and they just don't get to live in paradise for eternity.
21:17
Like what they will be eternally separated from the father, which, you know, why can't
21:22
it be just their life just ends and there's nothing for that person. There's, there's nothing
21:26
beyond the carnal world that they inhabited temporarily. Well, I think part of it is because
21:32
we were created as image bears of God and to bear his image means that we are eternal
21:36
creatures. So he didn't make puppets for a season and a way to think about it when you
21:43
say, why does hell include suffering? Why does a light with no, I mean, why does a room
21:49
with no light include darkness? Because the source of light is not there. And so every
21:55
good and perfect gift is from above. So when you remove that, then all you have left is
22:02
the shadow. So there's no joy. There's no peace. There's no patience. There's no love.
22:09
Everything you know that is good. If that source is separated from you, then all you
22:14
have is the bad is suffering. And honestly, I mean, maybe look, when the Bible talks about
22:21
it, I mean, I do think it's actual like flames and stuff, but it's at least that. It's at
22:26
least that maybe just being separated from God is the eternal punishment. Okay, very
22:34
good. Well, I appreciate that. We're going to get into the next question here from Eric
22:37
Browning of the forging table fame. So where does hatred belong in our lives? I am referencing
22:43
Psalm 139 19 through 22. I'm going to read it here in a second. Psalm 139 verses 19 through
22:49
22. Should we have a hatred of some people? And how does this contrast with Matthew 9 36?
22:57
I will read both. Okay. So here is Psalm 139 verses 19 through 22. Oh, that you would slay
23:02
the wicked. Oh God. Oh men of blood, depart from me. They speak against you with malicious
23:07
intent. Your enemies take your name in vain. Do I not hate those who hate you? Oh Lord?
23:13
And do I not load those who rise up against you? I hate them with complete hatred. I count
23:18
them my enemies. And then we have Matthew 9 verse 36. When when he saw the crowds, he
23:25
had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without
23:29
a shepherd. So there's a lot there in that because again, why are you getting mad at
23:34
people for being dumb? Like if you believe that they don't have the Holy Spirit? Well,
23:38
yeah, of course they're dumb. They don't have the Holy Spirit. They don't have the
23:40
understanding of scripture. They haven't had their eyes opened, whatever your favorite
23:44
theological way to describe that scenario is. But back to the original question from
23:48
Eric is where does hatred belong in our lives? It does not belong in the New Testament believer.
23:55
So part of the reason it's one of my favorite things about that text and 139 is if you read
24:00
it in context, David sounds like a schizophrenic person. Do you ever notice that? Like yeah,
24:06
the verse right before it is how precious or how precious to me are your thoughts. Oh God,
24:12
how vast is the sum of them? Two lines later, he's like bashing the head of my enemies. Next
24:16
line, search me and see if there's any way we're part of me, which is good news. So you can
24:21
you can pray like a crazy person because we have all kinds of emotions. Now, even though
24:26
all of the Psalms are inspired by God and infallible, David does not know the gospel,
24:35
the life death and resurrection of Christ. He know that a lamb is coming to die on behalf of
24:42
sinners that take away their sin, but our forgiveness is upgraded in the New Testament.
24:49
In the Old Testament, it was just a law of retribution so that there would not be a law of
24:56
retaliation. This is why there's eye for iron tooth for tooth. So if you poke my eye out,
25:02
I can't kill you. I can only poke your eye out. This is where Moses takes us. Then Jesus comes along
25:07
and says, no, it's a higher level than that. And he lets us know more of who God is and that we
25:13
are actually supposed to love our neighbors. Why? Because that, I mean, love our enemies because
25:19
God has loved us. So even the people that hate God, God loves them and sends his son Jesus to
25:24
down the cross for them. That is why we are supposed to love our enemies. So the reason that we don't
25:29
hate is because we trust that God will get his vengeance. So the sin that these people are doing,
25:39
that makes us want to hate them, we can trust God that he will either cover it at the cross
25:44
or they will pay for it in hell. And so vengeance is his. And even though God had plenty of reasons
25:50
to hate us, he didn't hate us. He loved us and he laid down his life for us. Therefore,
25:55
that's how we should treat our neighbor, even the ones that we want to hate.
26:00
We pray for their salvation. And if God doesn't say them, then we know that he will repay their
26:08
evil with his perfect justice. All right, very good. They're the parameters for hate, you guys.
26:14
I know you've been waiting all this time to know when and if you could hate your neighbor. So
26:18
there you go. There's your answer. All right. So this question is from Matt who is not from the
26:22
forging table. This is Matt, a donor Matt. Thank you for being a donor to undaunted life. I'm retired
26:26
military PTSD and all that. I recently met a guy at a church's celebrate recovery who is really
26:32
suffering from PTSD or spicy deja vu, as I like to call it, and suicidal thoughts besides
26:39
assuring him that he is loved by God and others and that he is wanted and needed here. What's the
26:45
best way to support him through this? I've never been this deep into someone's life who is struggling
26:51
or at all. Now that I think about it, I'm just looking for some practical advice.
26:54
Man, I hate to just promote my own books, but I wrote a chapter on the empty tomb is empty on
27:04
the mountain of transfiguration that talks about like, what do you do when God doesn't do what you
27:11
think he ought to do? And it ends in Mark chapter nine, where the dad brings the kid and says,
27:18
if you can help, we please heal my kid. And Jesus says, if I can, all things are possible for the
27:22
one who believes. And he says, I believe help me overcome my unbelief. And I walk through that.
27:27
What is it like to try to want to believe, but you need Jesus to help you overcome your unbelief.
27:33
And then at the end of that chapter, there is a real prayer of deliverance because if somebody's
27:39
having suicidal thoughts, that is demonic. There's no other, there's no other, you know, animal species
27:46
on the world that thinks, you know, what we ought to do is take our life. And so demons want to
27:51
steal, kill and destroy. And there may be some, well, first of all, man, praise God that this
27:56
guy's had a celebrate recovery meeting because that's a, a Christ centered 12 step program.
28:01
Praise God for that. But I mean, if you, I'll send you a free book, if you can't swing the 20
28:07
bucks or whatever, but chapter six of if the tomb is empty ends with a prayer of deliverance.
28:12
And I would go after this thing, heart, soul, mind and strength. So hearts about relationships,
28:17
call them every day, talk to him, mind, he's got to pay very close attention to the things that
28:22
he's putting in here, because the enemy wants him to think that he's not worthy of life.
28:27
Soul, I think you've got to go after this thing, like at the spiritual warfare level. And so I've
28:34
given words here that I would encourage you to pray over this guy or encourage him to pray it
28:39
over himself. And then strength, he should, you know, see a doctor and make sure like PTSD is a real
28:46
thing. You know, sometimes there, there are chemical realities that need to be dealt with
28:51
physically. And God is the, he is the great physician and all healing comes from him.
28:56
So I would attack this thing, heart, soul, mind, strength, relationally, spiritually, physically
29:03
and mentally. When it's good that he's even asking this question, because that means that he's
29:06
burdened for this guy. He has an actual burden for him. And it's not just because he himself
29:10
understands, but that probably has a lot to do with the fact that he's in his life.
29:14
So Matt, that would be my encouragement to you if you're listening to this is like,
29:17
there's a reason why you're burdened about this. You were burned enough to where you, you know,
29:21
got in our inbox, just ask this question and we threw it out there for everybody else.
29:25
So we've got time for one more question left here today. We've covered a lot of important.
29:29
I'm sorry. Let me try one other thing. Please. Contact Project Savior Outdoors with our boy,
29:34
Mike Dragotch. It's a ministry specifically for veterans that are struggling with suicide
29:38
or contact Mighty Oaks, which is also a ministry with our boy Chad Robos show that for the same
29:44
thing, there are two ministries there that can help equip you to serve veterans that are battling
29:49
with things like PTSD and suicide. Hey, man, shout out to both of those guys. They do amazing,
29:54
incredible work. Last question of the day, Joe Bean, this one's from me.
29:59
Okay, for the rest of your life, you can only ever have one of these two things. That doesn't
30:06
mean it's the only thing you have, but one of these things is gone forever from your life.
30:12
You only get to keep one. Okay. Peanut butter and jelly or grilled cheese?
30:16
I would keep grilled cheese. I don't think I've ever had a peanut butter and jelly.
30:24
You've, wait, what? Not to my memory, not to my knowledge. My mom doesn't think she's ever fed
30:29
me one either. So I love peanut butter and I love jelly. I've never put them together.
30:33
Okay, Joby, I feel like I've learned a lot about you personally and publicly over these last
30:39
few years. That may be one of the more concerning things that I've ever heard in my entire life
30:43
come out of your mouth. What in the world? I think I'm at the point now. It's been so long
30:47
watch right now. You know what I mean? I don't, I've hardly ever had a meal without meat. So
30:51
let me just start there. Okay, well here, this is what I'm going to do for you. It's not a peanut
30:56
butter and jelly, but the next time you're here at my house or I'm at your house, what I'm going
31:00
to do for you is I'm going to make you, I don't even remember what it's called, but it's it's it's
31:05
basically peanut butter, banana, bacon, syrup, bread, right? So what does that call like the
31:13
filthy Elvis or something like that? That's delicious. Yeah. Okay, so I'll make you one of those and
31:18
then maybe we can ease into the peanut butter and jelly. It's a staple, man. I mean, it's just
31:22
something that you need. And I've had way more peanut butter and jelly than I've had grilled
31:26
cheese. And I love grilled cheese. But yeah, get the heck get that the heck out of here. I need
31:29
PB and J. That's that's a survival thing, man. Yeah, I love peanut butter. But well, we can
31:35
figure that out the next time you're here. Well, hey, man, that's all for me. Is there
31:38
anything else you want to get off your chest? That's it. Appreciate it. All right. Talk to you next
31:41
month. Peace. Thank you for listening to this podcast. Wherever you're listening to this,
