This is Undaunted Life A Man's Podcast.
0:53
I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.
0:56
Joby Martin, it's great to see you, but last month when I saw you,
1:00
I don't think you had as many things on your arm.
1:03
What's going on? Have you allowed kids to draw on your arms, or is that permanent?
1:07
Well, you know, I got a couple, a little more ink going on.
1:12
So it's actually to honor my buddy Brad Bowen, friend of mine who led Christ,
1:17
baptized, and he was the general contractor built all of our campuses.
1:22
And he passed away on a hunting trip with me three years ago.
1:25
So it's a bunch of the church, and there's Scottish Thistle.
1:28
That's where we were hunting, and he died on 10, 13, and an elk, you know,
1:31
and crawls, all kinds of stuff.
1:32
Well, I don't know if you know this pastor, but tattoos are of the devil,
1:37
and so is wearing black. So what does that mean for us?
1:41
It is, but neither of those things are true, which is very devilish,
1:47
because he's the father of lies.
1:49
But Joby, I've been reliably informed that if Satan listens to music,
1:54
he listens to the music that I like.
1:56
I've been told that multiple times that music sounds demonic.
1:59
I was like, that's interesting.
2:01
Where did you hear what a demon sounds like?
2:03
I didn't know you had Satan's playlist.
2:04
So I guess we can all move past that and put it in the same category
2:08
of people being a little overzealous.
2:09
But we do need to get into our first question of the day.
2:11
This question is for me, but guys, if you want your questions entered into the question bank
2:15
for the ask a pastor series, you do have to be a monthly donor.
2:18
And I'm just going to flow on this one a little bit,
2:20
because this came up recently with a friend of mine.
2:22
I'll leave the friend nameless, but they attend a church that they really enjoy.
2:28
They really enjoy their Sunday school.
2:30
They really enjoy the relationships with the people there.
2:34
They have an influence there, all those different things.
2:36
But in the not so distant past Joby, this church has asked a woman to come and preach,
2:43
not give a testimony, not to speak on a particular nonprofit idea.
2:48
But multiple times they asked a woman to come and preach on Sunday morning
2:52
to the entirety of the congregation.
2:54
And this is a large church.
2:55
And so I was talking with this guy and I was kind of ripping him like,
3:00
hey, you should go to my church and not your church.
3:02
And then he told me this and I was like, dude, if you're looking for a blinking neon sign
3:06
as to why you shouldn't keep going to the church you're going to, that's it right there.
3:10
But what would you say to him?
3:11
Because he's like, yeah, but that was a little while ago and she hasn't come back in a while.
3:15
And we really like it. What would you say to someone like that?
3:19
I would say that he should go sit down with the pastor of that church and see why
3:26
that pastor came to that conclusion.
3:29
Because what you really want to know, the real question that you're asking is,
3:34
do you believe in the authority of the Word of God or not?
3:40
I have some friends of mine that love the Bible, love the Lord, and they have come to the conclusion
3:46
that what that church is doing is okay on the some time, but a woman could not be the lead pastor.
3:54
That's not the conclusion I come to in my reading of the New Testament,
3:58
but our core convictions about the authority of the Word of God, me and my
4:03
friend that's a little more egalitarian than me, our core convictions about the Word of God are the same.
4:08
That's really what you want to know. Does that make sense? It's not even do you have a female
4:15
ever preach? It's more what do you think the role of God's word is? And then what do you think those
4:21
particular verses where Paul says I do not permit a woman to speak or have authority over a man?
4:27
What do you think those verses mean and how are we applying them?
4:31
One though, the thing I told him, I was like, if they're going to play fast and loose with that,
4:35
what other things are they going to be paying playing fast and loose with theologically
4:39
or what other stances? And you know, as we continue to work ourselves up the oppression hierarchy as
4:44
Christians here in America, do you think that that congregation is going to withstand the
4:49
pressures coming from culture? And my argument to him would be that no, they've not shown
4:54
a propensity for that because of the things that they've allowed for so far.
4:58
Yeah, historically speaking, if you just look at the denominations that
5:02
begin to ordain women as pastors and elders and in particular as lead pastors and elders,
5:08
it wasn't very long before they began to move away from core doctrines of salvation.
5:13
Right. And I find that to be very, very problematic. And so I think that's a good message to everybody.
5:18
Let's get into the next question here. This is from Benjamin. Thank you, Benjamin for being a
5:21
monthly donor and for sending us a question. It's a little bit of a lengthy one, but I think it's a
5:24
good one here. Kyle coined the term for people who live in conservative areas and listen to country
5:29
music, country music theology. I can be counted in this group. Sometimes these people can develop
5:35
some sort of cultural complacency where they go to church and say they are regenerate while not
5:39
changing much of anything in their daily lives pre versus post conversion. For example, they will
5:45
still sleep with their girlfriend or boyfriend. They will be belligerent or vindictive. They will
5:49
engage in drunkenness and they will not know anything about the Bible. My question is, as someone who
5:54
lives in a rural area and enjoys country music, what steps do you think lay people can take
5:59
to help folks understand the lifestyle changes that need to take place? How does one communicate
6:04
to someone that true regeneration in Christ comes with repentance and putting these things
6:09
to death? And one thing I would add to that, Joby, is you think you're not depraved because, oh, I'm
6:14
going to a PBR event, you know, I'm going to a rodeo event. It's going to be a bunch of, you know,
6:17
Trumpy, conservative Christian folk. And then you walk around and girls are wearing, essentially,
6:22
what they would be wearing to a hip hop concert or basically any other wearing culture. There's a
6:26
lot of poverty, a lot of sin, it's just cloaked in the American flag in church-ish language. Ready to go.
6:31
Well, what you got to just dive into the Bible and do what it says. So Romans 12 1 and 2 says,
6:38
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living
6:42
sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship. And here's how we do
6:47
that. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.
6:52
That if your life is indistinguishable from the culture that you live in, then you are not,
6:58
you are being conformed to the pattern of this world. That word conformed is a building term.
7:03
It would be like you build up, like if you've ever poured concrete, you build a form, pour the
7:07
concrete into it, and it takes the shape of the form. When we come to Christ, we are to be conformed
7:12
into the image and likeness of Jesus, regardless of what culture you have grown up in. Now,
7:17
there are more culture, there are some cultures that are more redeemable than others and more evil
7:23
than others. But if your life is indistinguishable from the culture, then you are out of step.
7:28
John says, do not love the world or the things of this world, because all this world has to offer
7:34
is less to the eyes, less to the flesh and the pride of life. And so the question, what often
7:38
happens with Christians is what the Bible means is that we're supposed to love the people of this
7:44
world and reject the values of this world. But a lot of Christians do is they adopt the values
7:49
of this world and reject the people of this world. So measure yourself to that. The key is abiding
7:55
Christ. He's going to prune a whole bunch of stuff away from you. He's also going to cut off all the
8:01
dead branches, the dead branches or the worldliness from you. And the more you get to know him, the
8:06
more like him you become. And I think as Charles Spurgeon says, the grace that doesn't change me
8:13
will not save me. So I've actually, I've written a whole book about this not to promote it right
8:18
now. But in the fall, it will come out called run over by the grace train. The idea is,
8:24
if you had an encounter with Jesus and it doesn't change you, then you didn't encounter Jesus.
8:29
I think, I mean, I absolutely love that. And I think on top of that, what I would tell people
8:33
is if you live in a rural area, that's kind of Christianese, you're surrounded by Christianese
8:39
and there's crosses up different places, even in businesses where no one in there is actually a
8:42
believer, that is an encouragement to you. Because I've been to some pretty depraved places that
8:48
I've gone and spoken at and all that. And it's like the, the lack of God in this area is so apparent.
8:54
But the lack of God in your area, maybe isn't going to be as apparent. And so like, you're
8:58
going to see the depravity of these people, but it's going to be cloaked in all these things that may
9:02
distract you, if that makes sense. Yeah. And the enemy, man, the enemy would love for you just to
9:08
be a good moral citizen and not know Jesus. We've talked about that before. I've talked to guys whose,
9:14
whose wives are, you know, friends with other wives. And then these wives have always been,
9:19
you know, front of the classroom, always got straight A's never really did anything wrong.
9:23
And this is like, that person doesn't feel like they need Jesus. Whereas like the crack addict
9:27
is like, man, I need Jesus. I got to get over this. And so absolutely that that all works out in
9:32
there as well. Okay. Next question here, this is from a forging table. So this is from Jake Winkler.
9:37
If we are under Christ, but have hardened our heart to a sin, to the point that we have not
9:42
repented of that sin, will that sin be forgiven regardless? Yeah. So first on one nine, let's just
9:50
know that if we confess our sins, and he is faithful and just forgive us of all unrighteousness.
9:55
So I think that question is kind of confusing the difference between justification
10:02
and sanctification. So the moment that you put your faith in Christ for your salvation,
10:07
you are justified. All of your sins have been legally expunged from your record, paid for
10:15
in full at the cross and the righteousness of Christ, the perfect life of Christ has been imputed
10:20
unto you. In other words, you get credit for his perfect life. Now, from that moment to the moment
10:25
you breathe your life, your last is a process of sanctification. Now, the word sanctification just
10:32
means to be separated from sin. The idea is that God uses the spirit of God inside of you and the
10:38
word of God as your authority, like a hammer and a chisel to chisel away everything in your life
10:43
that doesn't look like your son Jesus. But the reality is, is that one, it's progressive,
10:48
which means none of us are finished too, that we don't check the sanctification boxes all in the
10:54
same order. So sometimes people's, you know, different things begin to align with with a Christ
11:01
likeness in different people's lives in different order. But the spirit of God convicts the believer
11:09
in Jesus. So I would say given enough time and it will now if there is an area of your life where
11:16
you say forget you God. I don't care what you say. I do what I want. Then you got a really
11:22
question, is he your Lord? Because to surrender your life to the lordship of Jesus means you don't
11:29
get to, you don't get to determine what you do anymore. Now you may fight against it, you may
11:34
wrestle, you may stumble and fall, but you do not, you don't get to say, well, God, I'll give you,
11:40
I'll give you 99% of me, but this part is mine. Then by definition, you are the Lord of your own life.
11:46
The example that I've used and I've heard you use, and it's not new to me, but when the crusaders
11:50
would get baptized, they would hold their sword out of their hand because they thought I'm gonna do
11:53
some evil stuff with that. Well, they were not submitted and surrendered. Today, it's usually
11:57
our pants is our wallet and our sexuality. And say, in these two areas, I'm going to do what I want.
12:02
Well, if he's not Lord of all, he's not Lord at all. Now again, that's different than struggling
12:08
with sin being sanctified through a painful pruning process over time.
12:12
I think that's helpful as well. The thing that I would, I don't know that I would ask
12:17
necessarily as a follow up, well, I'll put it this way. I just talked to an 11 22 or this morning,
12:22
who's young in his walk, right? So he's older than me, but he's been a Christian, you know,
12:26
less than a year. And so for a guy like that, let's say he's got a hundred things that God
12:31
wants to change in him, like a hundred sinful ways or habits or desires that he wants to fix in him.
12:35
He can't attack a hundred different fronts at once. It's like you kind of have to attack certain
12:41
things like at the certain time, and there are certain things that are going to be revealed to
12:45
you in time, because it's a lesson that God is going to teach you through the Holy Spirit.
12:49
And so that's my encouragement to young Christians is it's like, yeah, you are a work in progress,
12:54
bro. And you just got to work, like imagine walking into a house where everything is broken.
12:59
You have to focus on certain things like maybe the foundation or maybe like the plumbing or things
13:05
that could really lead to other major issues, like get certain areas fixed up. But along the way,
13:10
yeah, you'll fix the leaky faucet or the door that doesn't close quite so right, you know what I mean?
13:16
Yeah, and I would spend as much time, if not more, in what the like the founding fathers kind
13:23
of folks with pilgrims and Puritans would call vilification, do the things that stir your heart
13:30
and affection towards the Lord. And simultaneously, you got to mortify the sin that's trying to kill
13:36
you. So it's not an either or, but it's majority drawn near to Christ. He will draw near to you.
13:44
But you better pay very close attention to the sin in your life is trying to kill you.
13:49
Hey guys, real quick. Here recently, one of my family members was telling me about how they
13:53
partnered with another family and they bought some beef from this local cattle producer. And when
13:57
they got the beef, it was unbelievably terrible. And I can tell you this from experience because
14:02
they made me some beef ribs from that animal and they were terrible. And they even gave me some
14:06
stakes and some ground and it was basically inedible. Like I couldn't believe how bad it was. And they
14:12
ended up finding out that the person killed an old bull or something like that. And just the meat
14:16
was old and tough and awful. And that's just what happens when you don't have a quality cattle
14:21
operation that you can trust to give you a quality beef product on the back end. And that's guys,
14:26
why I want to introduce you to the official beef delivery partner of Undaunted Life,
14:30
my friends at Primal Beef. So Primal Beef is a cattle operation owned and operated by Sean Glass.
14:35
He's a retired Navy SEAL that has partnered with Jocko willing to launch Primal Beef.
14:39
So what makes Primal Beef different from some of these other cattle operations where you're
14:43
going to end up getting bad beef? This operation is all American black Angus cattle. The beef
14:48
comes from one farm and that's in Virginia Shenandoah Valley. The beef is all natural,
14:53
no hormones ever, no mRNA ever, no vaccines ever. And after slaughter, this is a big deal. The beef
14:58
is dry aged and then it's hand cut by artisan butchers and then flash frozen to ensure that
15:03
it maintains tenderness, marbling and flavor. And here's another great thing about it for every box
15:07
sold. Primal Beef donates meat directly to a member of America's Special Operations forces
15:12
through the C4 Foundation. So you can take pride in knowing that your purchase will help to put
15:16
literal food on the table for America's finest warriors. If you're not salivating yet, it's
15:21
probably because you're a communist. Don't be a communist. Try Primal Beef out today by going to
15:25
www.primalbeef.com. That's primalbeef.com. Use the promo code, Kyle. That's my first name,
15:32
to get 10% off of your order. The great thing about that promo code is you can stack that on
15:36
other deals as well and get all this money off. Again, that's primalbeef.com promo code Kyle.
15:40
That's kyle to get 10% off your order. All right, very good. Let's move on to the next question.
15:46
I've been very, very excited about this one because I got excited to answer it myself. So this one is
15:50
from me. We're setting up a dinner party. Okay, Joby, you got two separate dinner parties.
15:56
At one dinner party, it is three people from the Bible. It's you and three people from the Bible
16:03
having dinner. Okay, the other dinner party is you and any three people from history living or dead,
16:10
and but they can't be in the Bible. Okay, so you can't like mix and match. Now, why you think
16:14
about it? Because I'm putting you on the spot. I want to tell you about my tables. So here's my
16:18
Bible table. Who's going to here's who's going to be with me at dinner? Okay. So we got Peter,
16:22
right? Because he saw it off like I am. So we're going to have some fun. Then we got King David,
16:28
because I got a lot of things I want to ask him like, Hey, dude, how hot was Bathsheba? Because
16:32
you basically risked it all. Like what is wrong with you? And then the last one I would say would
16:36
be Adam. So why if I could talk to any man, why not talk, you know, to the first man? I think that
16:42
would be cool. So that would be my Bible table. Now my non Bible anybody from history table,
16:47
it's going to be a little bit of a bit of a mix. But I think these guys would get along. First,
16:51
we got Johnny Cash got to have him there. Second, I'm taking Teddy Roosevelt, right? And so we'll
16:58
get him out his most buff. So I could call him, you know, Teddy swosavelt. And the last one would
17:03
be Richard the first of England. So that's Richard the Lionheart. And so it'd be me, Johnny Cash,
17:08
Teddy Roosevelt, and Richard the Lionheart. And then on the Bible side, it's me, Peter, David,
17:13
and Adam. So you got your two dinners. Who's coming with you? Okay. So from the Bible, I also would
17:20
the Apostle Peter, same kind of reason. Oh, by the way, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, you can't say,
17:26
you can't say Jesus. Sorry, I meant to interrupt you. Jesus can't be at your Bible party. All right.
17:30
So like, because that's everybody's answer. Jesus is there anyway, because three or more gathered. So
17:34
anyway, keep going. Yeah, no, I know him already. So all right, Peter, for all the same reasons,
17:39
the Apostle Paul, God would have a lot of ministry questions to the Apostle Paul,
17:44
especially in our like self care day and age. I don't see a lot of self care happening in the
17:50
epistles. And then I think I'm going to keep it all in the New Testament and talk to pastor Timothy.
17:56
And what was it like to receive the baton from Paul? Because he, he passed through such an amazing
18:03
church in Ephesus. And then by the time you get to the book of Revelation, the church in Ephesus
18:09
didn't make it, you know, like there's no, they lost their first love. And even though that church
18:14
started with a bang, our church started with a bang, and it would break my heart. If, you know,
18:19
in my lifetime, we lost our first love and drifted away. All right, so those are bible people.
18:22
Historical figures. Wow, this is like Bill and Ted's excellent adventure. Well, you can
18:30
assume that they all speak the same language of as you like, assuming you can all understand
18:35
one another. So it doesn't have to just be English speakers. All right, I think I go William Wallace.
18:40
All right, very good. My background is Scottish. And so that'd be cool. William Wilberforce to see,
18:48
you know, this dude, he really, he seems to be an integrated man that did not check his
18:56
relationship with Jesus when he walked into the, to his job. And Bonhoeffer, I'd go with those three
19:04
guys. Okay, very good. So why Bonhoeffer? I just think there might be some similarities. Not quite,
19:11
well, I don't know, they may be as extreme, but there just seems to me to be some similarities in
19:17
the role of the church these days with evil regimes of what's really happening as our battle is not
19:26
against flesh and blood, but there's somebody pulling the strings. And Bonhoeffer stood up
19:31
against evil regimes that we know that the devil was behind. And I would love to get some wisdom
19:36
these days with the attack on gender, the attack on the character nature of God, the attack on
19:42
freedoms, and get some advice on how to rightly navigate and lead a church through fighting
19:49
spiritual darkness. All right. So we got Bonhoeffer, Wilberforce, and William Wallace. And then we got
19:56
Peter, Paul, and Timothy. I've got Johnny Cash, Teddy, you swows Velt and Richard, the first king,
20:02
the Richard, the line heart and then Peter, David and Adam guys, let us know in the comments section,
20:05
who has the better dinner tables? I'm just going to tell you, it's going to be me. So don't be so
20:08
disappointed. Joby got to get into the next question here. This is from Christopher. He is a donor,
20:13
but also a longtime 11 22er. Here's his question. A topic has come up between a few fellow believers
20:19
and myself about whether God quote unquote forgets our sins in light of Isaiah 43 25, which says,
20:27
I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake. And I will not remember your sins.
20:33
That's Isaiah 43 25. And some verses in Hebrews also say something similar. The discussion seems
20:40
to be that yes, God forgives our sins, but he can't forget them as that would mean he is not omniscient.
20:47
What are your thoughts? Yeah, you're just you just got a little bit of Hebrew English translation
20:53
etymology problem there when it doesn't say he forgets, he says he doesn't remember. And so
20:59
think about the way the Hebrews would pray to God. They would cry out, Lord, remember me.
21:04
It's not like you're trying to get your grandma that's got Alzheimer's to remember you. Do you
21:09
remember who I am? It's like pay attention to me, please. And that's what he's saying. He pays
21:14
no attention to your sin because he pays attention to the blood of his son on the cross. It's not
21:19
like he forgives and forgets. It's more like he forgives through the blood of the cross and
21:24
remembers that he has forgiven you. He doesn't remember that you are a sinner that deserves to be
21:30
punished for it. Well, I've even heard, Joby, I've heard you tell people like, you know, when you
21:36
talk about a debt ledger, you know, when someone sends a send against you, you kind of create a
21:39
debt ledger. It's like, I've created this ledger. I forgive you, but you don't forgive and forget
21:44
you forgive and remember because when you remember, you are reminding yourself of the gospel and how
21:49
that not only applies to the person that's transgressed against you, but the people that you are transgressed
21:55
against and even transgressing against yourself. Correct. And so he is choosing to not hold you
22:01
accountable to what you have earned because of your sin. He remembers that sin no more.
22:07
All right, very good. Well, let's get into the next question here. This is from Eric Browning
22:14
from the forging table. So let's get into Eric's question. This he gave us this one a long time ago,
22:18
and I just now snuck it in. So let's get after it. When we get to heaven, are we going to mourn
22:23
loved ones that we spent a lifetime with, but ended up going to hell because of their unbelief?
22:28
Likewise, how are we going to deal with the pain and knowing we didn't share the gospel with people
22:34
with whom we had ample opportunity? Are we just going to be cool with it because they were not
22:38
elect anyway? Yeah, this was hard to explain. So, you know, there's a little bit there. There's
22:46
when people talk about heaven, there's some speculation. So what you're going to do is go to
22:50
the verses and see what the verses say. So I'll give a little bit of that revelation makes it very,
22:55
very clear that he will wipe away every tear. So we're not in heaven crying that Jesus will be on
23:02
the throne and we will be around him singing. Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who
23:06
wasn't his and his gun. There is, there will be no pain in heaven. And on this side of heaven, we,
23:15
it doesn't, you know, the, I mean, you guys, it's funny, you guys wrestle with it all the time,
23:20
right? About man's will and God's election, yada, yada, yada. In heaven, somehow, when we see clearly
23:30
and we are not only know fully, but are fully known, then we will be rejoicing with every
23:36
decision that God has ever made for his glory. And we will not have to be forced to, it will make
23:43
complete sense to us. Because when we're sad, it's because we had this expectation and it didn't
23:49
match our experience. Well, there, our experience is going to exceed every expectation in God being
23:56
the fulfillment of every desire that we've ever had to the deepest level. Now, I know in our human
24:01
hearts right now, like you, you think you're going to miss your dog? I'm just telling you, you ain't
24:06
going to miss your dog. You're going to miss him on this side. But I know, right? And you're limited
24:12
thinking you think that he really satisfies you. But when you get there, you will be so completely
24:18
overwhelmed and glorified in your glorified body in the presence of God that there will be nothing
24:24
from this earth that would be that you would miss. Well, I'm going to make you pray for my
24:31
dog because he's currently in surgery. Okay. And so if he doesn't make it, you and I are going to
24:36
have some problems because I promise you, Roman the giant, I will remember him in heaven. And if
24:41
Disney or whoever made that film, it knows anything. All dogs go to heaven, Joby. I'll know if you
24:46
know that that's in first Kyle, you know, three, four or whatever. But the other thing, I do have
24:51
another follow up question. You said we're all going to be singing in heaven, right? That's kind
24:54
of an indication. Is the singing going to sound more like the stuff that I like to listen to or more
25:01
like the garbage that's on Christian radio. Is it do you have an idea which one?
25:05
Well, one of the things is we won't actually be in heaven forever. We will be in the new heavens
25:12
in the new earth. And so it's not going to be a constant worship service in the new heavens and
25:17
the new earth, but we will take dominion over some glorified version that includes work and
25:25
worship. And so I don't think it's just one big. My guess is there's nothing on earth musically
25:31
that even compares to what we will enjoy there dot dot dot. But the closest would be the Christian
25:37
medal that I listened to, Kyle, you're correct. Yes, I agree, Joby. Let's move on to the last
25:42
question of the day here. Now, Joby, I've, I've taken it, you know, I've gone hard at you the
25:46
last few months here. Like I asked you about baby Hitler and whether or not you should kill them.
25:50
I asked you about cannibalism. I asked you about IVF, you know, women preachers and all that. So
25:55
today, all of my questions are just going to be the fun one. So this is the last question of the day.
25:59
It's kind of a cop, but also fun at the same time. So let me paint the picture for you. You're on
26:04
death row, but you're there for something righteous. So let's just pretend like you did something
26:08
righteous. You're on death row and you get one last meal. Now I want to tell you, this is a magical
26:15
prism. Okay. From beginning to end, appetizers drinks all the way through to dessert. You get to
26:23
eat and drink whatever you want from appetizer through desserts. I want to know from beginning to
26:31
end that meal, what are you drinking? What are you eating? Let's go. The whole meal.
26:37
All right, let's start with the cold beer. It could just, uh, there's a local one here called
26:42
ITN, uh, and I would have steamed oysters that'd be my appetizer. And then, uh, I would have crab
26:49
legs, bacon wrapped filet, a loaded baked potato, uh, no greens. I don't need that. And then for dessert,
26:58
I would have a piece of my, my wife makes this peanut butter pie. That's the greatest thing
27:04
ever. And my dead grandma used to make the chocolate pie. And I would have a piece of each of those
27:11
with some chocolate ice cream. And then I would have, uh, that old forester that you gave me to
27:17
wash it all down with at the end. Okay. So of all the whiskeys in the world, the one that's going to
27:23
be the last one on your lips is going to be the old forester. Yeah. I mean, I'm a bit of a, I can
27:29
be a bit sentimental with that kind of stuff. Relationships matter to me way more than stuff.
27:35
So, uh, like for real, like I keep, I keep, well, you know, like there's some gifts people give me
27:42
that, that because of who it came from matters way more to me than what it is. So yeah,
27:49
that stuff matters to me. Well, that makes me feel happy to remember my boy. You know what I'm
27:54
saying? Like, I mean, all those are things I love, but it's just to remind me of my dude.
27:59
All right. Very good. Well, I said that was the last question of the day, but you answered it in
28:03
such a straightforward fashion because the last person I asked that to is my wife and it took her
28:07
about 17 minutes to come up with literally the lamest last meal ever. She would literally go to
28:12
the grave disappointed, but I do have one other question for you. Now this one is, is for me,
28:16
but this is just something that's been kind of like haunting me a little bit. Not it's not so
28:21
serious, but it just keeps coming up in my brain like a, like a record that won't stop spinning.
28:26
And my question is, is how does Satan have any bull be more specific? How does Lucifer,
28:30
the fallen angel Lucifer, how does he have any power whatsoever on this planet? Because he's,
28:37
he's cast out of heaven. A third of heaven's angels are cast out with him. But why was he cast to a
28:44
place where he could even have influence on humanity? It's just, it's a confusing concept over me,
28:50
because again, the preeminence and sovereignty and power of God is, is ultimate in, you know,
28:56
preeminent over everything. So how does Lucifer have any say in the matter?
29:01
It's a really good question. Funny enough, I'm not exactly sure when this comes out,
29:05
but I would, I would encourage anybody who wants to know a full, like a 55 minute answer to that
29:10
question. We're starting a brand new series called stand firm about spiritual warfare out of
29:15
Ephesians six. And week one is about how Lucifer came to be in the position where he is. So
29:22
the ultimate answer to almost every question about why did God, whatever,
29:29
if you start with the premise for his own glory, it'll help you get to the answer. So somehow,
29:36
God decided that he would be most glorified if we knew the utter and ultimate depravity
29:45
and darkness of what it looks like to rebel against God. So, um, as he go 24, the, the morning
29:56
star is in heaven. He's built out all these gems. God is perfect light. He's supposed to,
30:02
he's supposed to refract the light and he gets tired of being looked through and wants to be
30:06
looked to. And so he wants the seat that God is sitting in. So he gets cast out and that is where
30:16
the darkness of light Genesis one comes from. This is where all evil and corruption comes from.
30:21
This all happens pre Eden. He shows up in Eden and somehow God is most glorified when all of human
30:29
experience sees what rebellion against God is. And you get to the end of the story. And this
30:36
dragon has a death blow at the crucifixion. And one day gets thrown into the lake of fire forever
30:42
and ever and ever. And the reason that he hates me and you so much is because he thinks we get to
30:47
sit in the seat that he wanted. That's why he hates us. And so somehow in God, God's redemptive
30:54
story of humanity, he didn't create robots. He created people, not puppets, but image bearers.
31:01
And it is better. He gets more glory out of us seeing what rejecting him looks like. And he
31:09
is glorified when we get to experience what him rescuing us is. So somehow his temporary dominion
31:19
over this present darkness will glorify God most in Revelation 20 when he's cast into the
31:25
fire pit forever and ever. Okay, well, this will be coming out well into that series. So remind
31:31
everybody what the name of the series is in case they're listening to this late to where they can
31:34
go back and listen to it. Yeah, it's called stand firm. And the very first week we're going to
31:39
unpack how Satan gets got to be where he is and what his schemes against you and I are.
31:44
Very good. Well, I'm very much so looking forward to that. But Joby, we are out of time and I got
31:48
to keep both of your assistance. Well, you have like seven assistants. I got to keep them all happy
31:51
with me. So you got a hard stop. Get out of here. We'll talk to you next month. Peace.
