0:50 I'm your host Kyle Thompson.
0:52 Let's get into it.
0:53 All right, guys.
0:54 Before we get into today's content, if you would, please rate, review, and subscribe.
0:57 To this podcast, guys, we have expanded quite a bit this year.
1:01 We've done a lot of great things with this podcast, but we're kind of stuck at the mercy
1:04 of the algorithms.
1:05 That's just kind of where we are.
1:06 That's the world that we live in.
1:08 And so when you rate, when you give us five star reviews, when you leave us a few sentences,
1:12 when you subscribe, wherever you listen to podcasts, that helps ensure that this podcast
1:16 is going to keep continuing to get out to guys like yourself.
1:19 Just about every time somebody reaches out to me to, whether it's over Instagram or an
1:24 email or something like that, I always like to know how they found the show.
1:27 And a lot of times it's like, oh, you know, a buddy shared it with me.
1:30 Or you know, I was listening to this podcast and it told me I might like this podcast.
1:34 And so that's the thing about the algorithms is it'll suggest our podcasts as long as guys
1:38 are listening to it, as long as people are viewing it, giving it those five stars.
1:42 So please do that.
1:43 Thank you so much for your support for this podcast.
1:45 But here we are.
1:46 We're towards the end of the year.
1:48 We've had a very long year in just about every way that you could say it's been a long
1:52 year.
1:53 And a long year like this, there were some good things and there were some very, very
1:57 good podcasts.
1:58 So this is our award show.
2:00 So we did this last year with the best podcast of 2019.
2:03 We're going to do the same thing this year.
2:05 And so we're going to go over some awards about undaunted life, a man's podcast, and
2:09 they were also going to get into the new or other podcast and just kind of my thoughts
2:14 on all of those.
2:15 But it really was a big year for the podcast.
2:16 We did a lot of interviews.
2:18 And so for the first couple of years of the podcast, I don't think we did.
2:21 I think I'm pretty sure.
2:22 Yeah, the first interview we did was episode 100 with Eddie Penny, the retired Navy SEAL.
2:27 And that was kind of something that launched us in another direction, finding people that
2:32 are pertinent to you guys and that have important things to say on topics that are of interest
2:37 to you.
2:38 And so we had a big year for that.
2:39 That was a lot around the time that baby James was born.
2:42 We were able to get a lot of interviews scheduled.
2:44 So we had a bunch of interviews in a row.
2:46 We have new intro outro music because August Burns read released a new album this year.
2:51 The album's name is Guardians.
2:53 So we had a great time with that.
2:54 And so basically anytime they release a new album, we are going to be changing the intro
2:57 outro of music.
2:59 That's going to be the plan anyway.
3:00 So a lot of really good things happened.
3:02 There were some topics that I didn't think that I would ever talk about.
3:06 There were some things that I never really thought that I would go into and will certainly
3:09 get more into that in the podcast.
3:11 But I just wanted to take a quick second to thank all of you to thank all the listeners
3:14 of this podcast because you're literally why I keep doing it because there are times when
3:18 it's like, I mean, I haven't missed a single podcast, a single weekly podcast since we
3:22 started this thing back in 2017, but that doesn't mean that I'm not busy.
3:27 It doesn't mean that there aren't times where I'm like, man, I don't really know what to
3:29 talk about this week, but I just want to thank you guys because I get emails all the time
3:33 from people from all over the world, frankly, that are just like, man, you know, I was going
3:37 through a rough time.
3:38 But then I, you know, I started listening to your podcast and I started, you know, changing
3:41 some things at work or at home or people that are literally like finding me around episode
3:45 150 or so and they're going all the way back to the beginning, all the way back to the
3:49 beginning and starting with episode one, even when I didn't know how my microphone worked,
3:53 I didn't know how to edit anything and they're just listening to everything all the way through
3:56 and it's so it's you guys, it's your, your, your fandom.
3:59 It's all your support that keeps us going.
4:01 But also just thanks to God for giving me the ideas because guys, you wouldn't know it.
4:07 But if you're an artist, you know, you might think it's the muse, you know, when I talk
4:10 to Stephen Pressfield this year, we talked about the muse, you know, weird as, weird as creativity
4:15 come from and all that.
4:16 But guys, there are weeks when it's like, I got nothing, like I got nothing that I have
4:19 an opinion on.
4:20 I have nothing that I really want to go into.
4:22 And then magically it's almost as if the perfect topic comes to mind.
4:26 And so obviously being a Christian, being a follower of Christ, I know that that doesn't
4:29 just come from anywhere.
4:30 I know that that's not just indigestion, that that is a very, very important thing.
4:33 So thank you to God.
4:34 Thank you to you guys.
4:35 Let's go ahead and roll into what we're going to be doing today.
4:38 So for today, we're going to be going over these categories, these awards for Undaunted
4:42 Life of Man's podcast, we're going to go over the most popular episode of the year,
4:47 the hardest episode to prepare for, the best listener suggested episode, the most talked
4:53 about episode of 2020.
4:55 And then a new category from last year, it's my favorite interview of this year.
4:59 And then we're going to go into my favorite episode overall of this year.
5:03 And then after we get done with that, we're going to go into other shows, you know, we're
5:06 going to talk about most entertaining podcast, most thought provoking, most important, best
5:10 short form, best long form, best podcast show overall.
5:14 The most important podcast episode, that's kind of a new one from last year.
5:17 And then the best podcast episode.
5:20 And guys, we're going to try to go quickly through all these because, you know, hopefully
5:23 this sparks of interest in you to either go back and listen to some other episodes of
5:27 this podcast, but also to go and listen to other episodes of other podcasts.
5:31 So I want to make sure that you have enough time to do that.
5:33 But I would be remiss if I didn't mention this, because I mentioned this every time I
5:36 talk about podcasts is how to listen to more podcasts, because I get guys are like, man,
5:40 you know, I'd love to listen to Joe Rogan or Jocko Willink or some of these other long
5:44 form podcasts, but I just, man, I just can't find the time.
5:47 So as I say all the time, just about any device that you're using or any program that you're
5:52 using to stream podcasts, you can listen to it at at least two times speed.
5:56 And you might think that that's insane because I talked fast, [inaudible], pyro talks fast, like
6:00 this professor talks fast, everyone talks fast, right, but I guarantee you, your brain
6:04 will figure it out.
6:05 So some guys go to one and a half time speed and get used to that and they try to go up
6:09 to two times speed and it's too fast.
6:10 I promise you, if you just go right up to two times speed, your brain will catch up.
6:15 You will be able to pull out the things because it's just like, you know, if you're skimming
6:18 something versus reading everything word for word syllable for syllable, you're not going
6:22 to, you're not going to remember all of this unless you have an idetic, you know, memory,
6:25 unless you had a photographic memory.
6:26 So just do it at two times speed.
6:28 Another thing is don't listen to crappy podcast.
6:31 So if you're, this happened the other day.
6:33 So Joe Rogan had somebody on this is after he switched fully over to Spotify.
6:36 I don't even remember the person's name, but she was like a black market expert like she
6:41 would go behind the scenes and all these different black market things, but it became very apparent
6:45 about 13 minutes into that episode that that was just going to be two and a half hour lecture
6:48 on why drugs should be legal, right?
6:51 That that was what they just kept talking about was like, oh, you know, Portugal, they
6:54 you know, decriminalized drugs and look, the world's better than everything.
6:58 And that that's just not an episode that I'm interested in.
7:01 And it was even funny.
7:02 The argument that I would have made against that is, you know, the black market doesn't
7:04 go away when you legalize things.
7:06 The black market only increases.
7:08 And Joe Rogan even admitted that in California in terms of whenever they legalize weed there
7:12 recreationally, you know, the black market for its surge up there.
7:14 But then he was still like, yeah, we should still decriminalize weed because we have all
7:18 these problems with it.
7:19 Anyway, not getting on my soapbox there, but just don't listen to podcasts that are crappy
7:24 or a podcast episode that's like, you know, I don't want to invest two and a half hours
7:27 in something that's not really going to help improve my life.
7:29 You should be challenged in certain ways, but just don't listen to crappy episodes.
7:32 And the last thing, another way to listen to more podcasts is just do it every chance
7:35 you can, you know, your normal downtime.
7:37 I mean, this year, anytime I had a project, if I had to go outside, you know, scoop poop,
7:41 I would throw my headphones in and listen to a podcast as I'm walking the dog as you're
7:45 going to and from work while I'm working out while I'm driving to the store when I'm walking
7:50 through the grocery store, because most of you guys aren't walking through the grocery
7:52 store talking to people, but if you're going to be in the grocery store, maybe for 45 minutes
7:56 to an hour and you're listening to something at two times speed, that's two hours worth
7:59 of podcast time.
8:00 And that doesn't even include the time it took you to drive there and drive back.
8:03 So that's how you can get in more podcasts for the year.
8:06 Before we get into the awards for Undaunted Life for this year, I don't want to, I do
8:10 want to go over my current lineup of podcasts again that I don't miss.
8:14 It's going to be very similar to last year, but there are a few that I took off and a few
8:17 that I put on.
8:18 But here's my current lineup of podcasts that I don't miss.
8:21 So if they release one episode a week or, you know, one a few ever a month or five a week
8:26 or whatever, I just don't miss these.
8:27 I make sure that I get them within a week or two of them coming out.
8:30 So the briefing with Albert Moller and again, these aren't in any particular order.
8:33 These are just, you know, in order of how they were on my phone, I guess the briefing
8:37 with Albert Moller, unbelievable with Justin Briarley, RZIM, just thinking broadcasts,
8:43 the village church sermons, the Jordan B. Peterson podcast, DC in Hawaii.
8:49 I guess I could be telling you what these, what these are.
8:52 Sorry.
8:53 We're going to go back up to the top, you know, guys, we're doing this live.
8:55 So who freaking cares.
8:56 So the briefing with Albert Moller, that is basically daily news and events from a Christian
9:00 worldview.
9:01 So it's Monday through Friday.
9:02 It's a good one.
9:03 It's one of the ones I listen to every single day, unbelievable with Justin Briarley.
9:06 He hosts conversations typically between atheists and non atheists is a very good show to get
9:10 that information.
9:11 RZIM, you know, going back to last week's episode, that is Ravi Zacharias.
9:15 They'll take some of his Q and A's or some of his speeches and they'll kind of break it
9:18 down into 10 to 12 minute chunks, the village church sermons.
9:21 So that's a Matt Chandler's church down in Dallas, the Jordan B. Peterson podcast.
9:24 So obviously I'll know what that is, DC in Hawaii.
9:27 That is basically taken over the Hawaii, Hawaii MMA show.
9:31 And so that's just kind of my weekly MMA news fix.
9:33 The Joe Rogan experience, which needs no introduction, Bill Burr's Monday morning podcast.
9:37 So that's my favorite comedian, Bill Burr.
9:38 So he does a Monday and a Thursday podcast, hold these truths with Dan Crenshaw.
9:43 So that is representative Dan Crenshaw from Texas.
9:46 You know, that is a new one that we added this year, because I think he just launched
9:48 a podcast this year, but he interviews a lot of interesting people on that.
9:51 The Jocko podcast, which you don't need any intro to the Jocko unraveling podcast.
9:55 So that was the podcast that he had with some historian guy that I've talked about on previous
10:00 episodes.
10:01 But that's a cool one that they released here and there.
10:03 The way I heard it with Mike Rose.
10:04 So those are short form stories with the dirty jobs guy, apology radio.
10:08 That's Jeff Durbin out of Arizona.
10:10 So they kind of do a bunch of different things on that one, Dan Carlin's hardcore history
10:14 law. Do you guys already listen to that when they released two or three episodes a year,
10:17 but they're usually four or five hour tombs on these huge historical topics.
10:21 And then the breakdown with James Langford.
10:22 So that is Senator James Langford of Oklahoma.
10:25 He is a ginger just like me.
10:26 That's why I like him so much.
10:27 But basically maybe once a month or once every two months he'll release an episode kind of
10:31 breaking down a very tough political topic into kind of bite sized chunks to where people
10:36 can kind of understand exactly what's going on.
10:38 Then there are a few other shows that I'm not subscribed to, but I do keep them in my
10:42 feed because I'll catch random episodes here or there.
10:44 If I feel like the title of it or the description of it is interesting.
10:48 So I have the grounded podcast.
10:49 So that's Jocko's jujitsu podcast, but I think he's only done a few episodes and then he
10:53 has a release one a month.
10:54 So I don't even know if that one's still going.
10:55 The Matt Wall show.
10:56 So he's another daily wire contributor.
10:58 I listened to his quite a bit, but I don't catch every episode.
11:01 The sword and the trowel.
11:03 So that is a, oh gosh, what is the name of that ministry?
11:07 Some of you guys are screaming at me right now, but those are guys that put the movie
11:11 by what standard out in my good founders ministry.
11:15 Boom.
11:16 There you go.
11:17 So if you think my memory works great, just remember what just happened there louder
11:20 with Crowder.
11:21 So we've talked about him.
11:22 He's a conservative comedian type guy, but you know, some of those podcasts are interesting,
11:25 but they're more of a visual thing, but I just don't watch the video.
11:27 So I will listen to that from time to time.
11:29 The Rubin report that is Dave Rubin.
11:31 So that's another political podcast cleared hot with Andy Stumpf.
11:34 So that is a retired Navy SEAL.
11:36 He's kind of the world record holder in the wind suit distances.
11:39 He's been on the Joe Rubin experience before I'll catch some of his novel podcast.
11:43 So this is a guy whose actual, his name is navel in a VAL, but he has put out a lot of
11:48 business podcasts and he's an investor in Silicon Valley.
11:51 And he has some interesting things to say building a story brand with Donald Miller.
11:55 So that's kind of a marketing business development podcast.
11:57 The art of manliness and just to be honest, I've talked about this before that that has
12:01 gotten really stale for me because it used to be the art of manliness podcast.
12:05 Now it's, Hey, here's some books that I've read and I'm just going to have the authors
12:08 on to talk about whatever, even if it doesn't really revolve around manliness at all.
12:12 But there are still some really interesting topics and he does have some good gets that
12:15 he gets in terms of the authors he brings on.
12:17 And then the labeled podcast, that is for all of you old tooth and nail solid state people.
12:22 You know, they'll do the episodes about Zayo and under oath and debt poetic and all these
12:26 different bands.
12:27 And so those are kind of interesting to listen to.
12:29 So now that we've gotten through all of that, we are going to move on to the awards section
12:33 of this podcast.
12:34 So we're just going to go right into it.
12:35 These are the undaunted life a man's podcast awards for 2020.
12:39 So we're going to start right out of the gate with the most popular episode of 2020.
12:43 And that is just by sheer number of listens.
12:45 And I know, depending upon the time of the year it was released, it might get more or
12:48 less listens.
12:49 But the most popular episode of 2020 was episode 119.
12:53 And that was the interview that I did with Pat McNamara and it's it was called beyond basic
12:57 dude stuff.
12:58 So obviously a lot of you guys follow him on Instagram.
13:00 He is a former S F guy from the military.
13:05 He was such an interesting person to talk to.
13:08 And a lot of people love his stuff on Instagram because he does these really interesting workouts.
13:12 He's always doing tactical training.
13:14 And really just the content of the podcast was incredibly entertaining.
13:18 I just remember sitting here while this interview was going on just smiling at how well it was
13:22 going and how well he was doing.
13:24 But for you guys, that was the most popular episode of 2020.
13:27 So if you want to give that another listen, you definitely should, I'll probably go back
13:31 and listen to it again myself here before too long.
13:33 All right.
13:34 The next award I want to give out is the hardest episode to prepare of 2020.
13:40 And so before I go into a podcast, sometimes I will go into the studio with, you know, five
13:45 or six bullet points on a piece of paper and then I will just hit record and just go for
13:50 30 to 45 minutes.
13:51 And it just is what it is.
13:53 But then there are other podcasts other subjects that I just want to make sure that I have my
13:57 philosophy fully thought out.
13:58 I want to make sure it has the right flow.
14:01 If I do start rambling, I don't want it to be about that topic.
14:04 I want to kind of keep things in the pocket.
14:06 And so this year, the hardest episode to prepare was episode 142.
14:11 And that was called race in America, part one, what happened?
14:14 So this was, I believe it was a couple of months after George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis,
14:19 Minnesota.
14:20 I kind of let everything die down.
14:21 That was around the time that baby James was born.
14:23 So I had a bunch of stuff in the hopper, a bunch of episodes already ready to go.
14:28 And so I was able to spend a couple of months really gathering my thoughts and my opinions
14:32 and what I wanted to say on this topic.
14:35 The reason why was the hardest episode to prepare was just the sheer enormity of the topic.
14:40 And then I guess also just all the care that needed to be taken with such a topic.
14:45 So the sheer enormity of the topic, and I said this on that episode, race was something
14:48 that I never really thought that I would get into on this podcast because you can't win.
14:52 Like you seemingly can't talk about it in a sensitive of enough fashion or in an appropriate
14:58 enough manner to where everyone is satisfied.
15:00 But I felt like it was an important enough topic and it was all anyone could talk about
15:04 middle of the year, right?
15:05 Because the pandemic was kind of waning a little bit, you know, just wasn't at the forefront
15:09 of everyone's mind.
15:10 You know, the election was a really full force yet.
15:13 We were just sitting here in this, you know, dramatic milieu of nonsense from the summer.
15:17 So I felt like it needed to be discussed.
15:20 And another reason why I was so hard to prepare is because of everything that I wanted to
15:24 say.
15:25 Because again, the original goal for episode 142 and the race topic was that I was going
15:29 to say everything I wanted to say in one episode, but episode 142 turned into episode
15:34 143, 144, 150 and 156.
15:39 And so those first three, 142, 143, 144, those were like a chunk.
15:43 Those could all be kind of taken in one fell swoop.
15:45 So then I continued the same categories and the same theme in episodes 150 and 156.
15:51 And so to take, you know, three and a half, four hours worth of content, those first three
15:56 episodes, 142, 143, 144, and to kind of break that up into three different podcasts.
16:02 So it would be digestible for you.
16:03 It was just incredibly difficult.
16:06 And you know, it's gotten some good reviews from people, but that was definitely the hardest
16:10 one to prepare because I didn't want to be flippant with the things that I said.
16:14 And so there is the award for that one, hardest episode of the year to prepare 142 race in
16:19 America, part one, what happened?
16:22 Now we're going to get into the most offensive episodes of 2020 and I did say episodes because
16:27 I do want to make sure that you guys know that I don't ever try to offend you.
16:31 But there were several topics that I went into this year that guys weren't always pleased
16:35 with and guys would always voice their displeasure with me, which I'm fine with it as long as
16:38 you come at me with a with a cogent argument.
16:41 That's fine, I suppose.
16:42 But here are the ones that I've got the most kind of grief or questions about.
16:45 The first one was the first episode of the year, which is episode 112, the top 12 ways
16:49 to avoid being a crappy man in 2020.
16:52 So I done something similar for the first episode of 2019.
16:57 And it was just kind of like, here's some things that you should do, here's some wisdom
17:00 that you should live by, here's some adjustments that you should make in your life.
17:02 And so I continued that in in this year.
17:06 And the thing is, is a lot of guys don't like being told what to do.
17:09 And a lot of guys don't like it being pointed out that they've got egg on their face or
17:13 they've got some things that they need to adjust.
17:15 And so there were some people that that rubbed the wrong way like, who are you to say?
17:18 And it's like, well, I'm, I'm just me, like, just because I know the wisdom and recognize
17:22 the wisdom doesn't mean that I do it perfectly, but it doesn't mean that I shouldn't point
17:25 it out either.
17:26 So so that was kind of offensive to some people.
17:29 Episode 117 was surprisingly offensive to people.
17:34 That was called the curious case of mourning a legend.
17:37 So that was right after the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter and the other folks
17:41 that were there on the helicopter.
17:42 And I guess the reason why that one was offensive, it was typically only offensive to people
17:48 that read the description and didn't actually listen to the content of the podcast.
17:53 Because I felt like I was very fair to, to the moment and the tragedy and the pain that
17:59 people were feeling.
18:00 I felt like I was also very fair to point out that most of the people that were feeling
18:03 pain over the loss of Kobe Bryant didn't actually know the man personally.
18:07 But I even had one friend who's maybe the biggest Kobe Bryant fan that I know personally.
18:11 He got so mad at me at this podcast, but it was clear in his anger to me and his text
18:16 messages to me that he hadn't listened to it.
18:18 And so I was at certain points begging him just to listen to it.
18:22 Like hey, buddy, it seems like you've made up your mind about what the content was without
18:25 actually viewing the content or listening to the content.
18:29 How about you give it a go?
18:30 And he never did.
18:31 This guy, we're friends, we're fine, like there's not really much he and I could do
18:34 to one another to [inaudible] each other off to the point where we wouldn't talk to each other
18:36 anymore.
18:37 But he was so angry, he was so absolutely angry that I would even hinted the fact that
18:41 this is a man that we shouldn't be mourning personally or that maybe he wasn't the best
18:45 moral character or moral, you know, person that we should emulate, we should say.
18:51 And so that was one that caused some ruffled feathers with folks.
18:54 And then the ones that I just described in terms of offensive episodes, episode 142, 143,
18:59 144, 150 and 156, that is the five part now race in America series.
19:04 Obviously, if you say anything that is outside of kind of the leftist mainstream media projections
19:10 about Black Lives Matter being awesome.
19:12 And you know, Black Lives Matter is a, you know, it's a sentence, it's not a movement.
19:16 And you know, if you weren't down with the NBA, putting it on the court, and if you weren't
19:20 down with all the facts, the actual facts, if you were just mainly focusing on the narrative,
19:24 that's going to make some people angry.
19:26 Now, I did get some very positive reviews of all those episodes, but those did offend
19:30 quite a few people.
19:31 And it's just mainly people that don't really enjoy truth that much.
19:34 So those were the most offensive episodes of 2020.
19:36 And again, I'll just run them down again, 112, the top 12 ways to avoid being a crappy
19:41 man in 2020, 117, the curious case of mourning a legend and 142, 143, 144, 150 and 156 race
19:49 in America.
19:50 All right.
19:51 Next one is the best listener suggested episode of 2020.
19:56 And so this one goes out to a specific person, which led to a specific podcast.
20:00 So this goes out to one of our dedicated listeners from Oklahoma.
20:03 His name is Reg Aldrich, but he suggested a long time ago that I start reading the Jack
20:08 car novels.
20:09 And I tried to explain to this guy, Hey man, I read nonfiction fiction sucks.
20:14 The, you know, it's, it's too long.
20:15 You know, what if it's a bad story all that he was, Oh no, you got to.
20:19 It's so good.
20:20 I just finished reading the third novel, Savage Son.
20:23 And I was like, okay, you know what, you know, just so almost so we can stop this conversation.
20:26 I'll put it on my list.
20:27 If I ever get audible, you know, I'll just listen to it.
20:29 How's that?
20:30 He's like, yeah, cool.
20:31 Let's go and do it.
20:32 And a few months later, which ended up being at some point this year, I did end up getting,
20:35 I think three or four free books from audible.
20:37 And so it's like, great.
20:38 I'm going to go ahead and digest these books.
20:41 And I digested all three of them, you know, the terminal list, true believer and savage
20:46 son in a very, very short period of time.
20:49 And then that led to me reaching out to Jack Carr and I reached out to him, got him on
20:53 the podcast.
20:54 That was episode 168 called Jack Carr, a seal becomes a best selling author.
20:58 And so that was one that was just released here recently.
21:00 And so obviously that was such a cool thing that I would have just missed out on, missed
21:05 out on the interview, but also missed out on the entertainment of those books and looking
21:09 forward to his next book that's coming out early next year, The Devil's Hand.
21:12 If Reg Aldrich Hatton suggested that to me.
21:14 So that is the best listener suggested episode of 2020 and guys, that should just be a reminder
21:19 to you that as you run into things, right, whether it's a, it's a book, an author, a
21:23 video on YouTube, an article, something like that, just send it to me.
21:27 That's not always going to turn into an episode.
21:28 I've had people request that I do things on this podcast that I just refuse to do, or
21:32 maybe it just doesn't fit with where we're at in terms of the world at that moment, but
21:36 just send me stuff.
21:37 Even if it's just for my own personal selfish edification, right?
21:40 I want to read that.
21:41 So the things are going on, but a lot of times that does turn into actual content.
21:45 Make sure you share it with me.
21:46 You can share it with me.
21:47 Just DM me on Instagram or you can email me directly info at undaunted.life.
21:51 That's just INFO at undaunted.life.
21:53 All right, guys, next category here for the awards show.
21:57 Most talked about episodes of 2020 and yes, I did say episodes on that one as well, because
22:02 there were a lot of these that kind of spurred a lot of different conversations, not only
22:06 between people and me and people and kind of this podcast and this ministry, but with
22:10 them and their friends.
22:12 So the episodes that came to mind, I'll just list them and then I'll maybe give you a
22:15 little bit of information on each one of them.
22:17 141.
22:18 That is the interview that I did with John Eldridge, 146.
22:22 It's called Why Can't We Be Friends, 162.
22:24 That was decision 2020, the top reasons to vote for Joe Biden and 167, suicide and Thanksgiving.
22:30 So 141, the John Eldridge interview, guys, I've interviewed some heavy hitters in the
22:35 next category we're going to go into is my favorite interview of 2020 and I'll give you
22:39 the list of everyone I talked to, I interviewed some incredible people this year.
22:43 And that's not to say that I was, well, I guess I was still a little bit surprised
22:45 that John Eldridge had that much of an effect on people because his best selling book was
22:50 released almost 20 years ago, right, wild at heart.
22:53 But as soon as that one was released, I got messages from everywhere about how excited
22:58 people were.
22:59 These are people that hadn't even listened to it yet.
23:00 They were just excited that it happened.
23:01 So that was incredibly talked about.
23:03 I was very, very happy with how the interview went and how everybody has responded to it
23:07 subsequently.
23:08 And it was called why can't we be friends?
23:11 And I talked a lot about, I was kind of alluding to the foxhole episode that I released last
23:15 year, which was one of the most popular episodes from 2019.
23:18 But basically how friendships end sometimes and how that's okay.
23:23 And basically how Christian men should try and develop friendships, but also how they
23:26 should view friendships.
23:27 But I think the biggest particular topic of that particular episode that people talked
23:31 about was having three AM friends.
23:33 Because I kind of broke down this kind of made up thing about, yeah, a lot of guys have
23:37 like seven PM friends, I may have, I may have even said six PM friends that if you call
23:41 them until about six or seven in the evening, they're available to you.
23:44 But if you call them at three o'clock in the morning, they're not ready to go.
23:47 But all guys need a group of dudes that you call them at three AM, not only do they answer,
23:52 but you can feel them or you can hear them, you know, getting their pants on and putting
23:56 their keys in their pocket because they're on their way.
23:57 They don't know why you need them, but they're on their way kind of a thing.
24:00 So that caused a lot of great conversations and caused a lot of dudes that maybe didn't
24:03 have those friendships and those relationships is really think about cultivating them.
24:08 Decision 2020, that was episode 162, the top reasons to vote for Joe Biden.
24:13 So anyone who's listened to that episode, I'm going to give you a little bit of a spoiler
24:16 alert on that one.
24:17 I do an intro for that podcast and then I basically just let it run because I honestly
24:21 could not think of good reasons to vote for Joe Biden.
24:24 But the number of people that reached out to me that were just dying, laughing, or they
24:27 shared it with their Democrat friends or something like that, because there was just basically
24:31 five minutes of dead air whenever I was talking about the top reasons to vote for Joe Biden.
24:35 It was funny, but, you know, I guess Joe Biden and the Democrats are going to get the last
24:38 laugh because it looks like here in January, he's going to be elevated to the position
24:42 of president and be inaugurated as our president here in the United States of America.
24:47 And we'll see how that goes, you know, it'll add a lot of fodder for content for this podcast.
24:51 I'm sure so it shouldn't shouldn't hurt us all too bad, but we'll see where it goes.
24:56 Next category here, we're going to get into the award for my favorite interview that I
24:59 did of 2020.
25:01 And before I give you my favorite interview, I just want to give you a rundown of all the
25:04 guests that we had this year, because it was such a great year for the podcast.
25:08 I got to talk to so many interesting people.
25:10 So the first interview this year was with Matt Griner, that was episode 121.
25:13 That is the drummer of Oxburns Red.
25:15 We talked for about two, two and a half hours.
25:17 Amazing episode.
25:18 123 was with Rick Ankyl.
25:19 That is the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher that got the yips, basically forgot how to throw,
25:23 wrote a best-selling book about it.
25:25 Wonderful interview.
25:26 134 was with Hardell Moore, so he is a, basically a legendary wrestler here from the state of
25:30 Oklahoma, but also wrestling coach, 126 Ray Dorwart.
25:34 He is a legendary boot maker.
25:35 So I actually went to his, a little shop in Guthrie, Oklahoma and talked with him.
25:40 131 is with Rory McDonald.
25:41 So he is one of the greatest 170 pound fighters of all time.
25:45 So that was a really cool episode to get to talk to him about not only fighting, but also
25:49 his faith.
25:50 132 was father Mike Schmitz.
25:52 So this is a Catholic priest who takes a lot of effort to talk to manhood and kind of that
25:58 whole subject.
25:59 133 was with Greg Kokal.
26:00 So he is an author and apologist.
26:02 He wrote the book tactics.
26:03 Wonderful interview.
26:04 135 is with Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman.
26:06 So he wrote the book on killing and on combat, those books and amongst other books and on
26:11 spiritual combat, which was released this year.
26:13 Wonderful interview.
26:14 136 was with Justin Camp.
26:15 He wrote the book Odyssey.
26:16 So it was kind of talking about different Christian things within this whole intergal
26:20 actic, you know, space program type stuff.
26:22 137 was with Steven Mansfield.
26:24 We talked about his new book that was released this year.
26:27 And so just a really good, really good dude, known him for a while, good to get him on
26:30 the show.
26:31 138 was with MMA fighter, now retired, the thrice retired MMA fighter, Gerald Harris.
26:36 139 was with Chad Robashow.
26:38 So he owns, or he's a former Marine, I think it was a Marine recon.
26:42 And then he's done a lot of things to help Marines and help other people that are in
26:47 the armed forces with PTSD and different things.
26:50 140 is with the Welsh adventure guy, adventure guy, what a stupid title.
26:56 But Ash Dykes, but he's done all these crazy adventures and kind of gone on these long
27:00 walks through these really treacherous areas.
27:02 So that was a cool one.
27:03 141 was with John Elders.
27:04 We've already talked about that one.
27:05 145 was with Lila Rose.
27:07 She is the founder of live action.
27:09 So she is she is the only and the first female guests that we've had on the show, but she
27:14 talked about the abortion industry and what it's like to be in the pro live cause.
27:18 151 is with Stephen Pressfield.
27:20 So he's the author of a lot of books, you know, legend, a bag of vans and gates of fire.
27:26 And I'm trying to think of some of the other ones that came to mind, but you know, really,
27:28 really awesome interview with him.
27:30 154 was with TW Shannon.
27:32 So he is a Trump supporter and a former member of the House of Representatives here in the
27:36 state of Oklahoma.
27:37 Great conversation with him.
27:38 And then the last two, 157 Adam Davis.
27:40 So he is an author and speaker and very close with Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman as well,
27:45 and then 168 with Jack Carr, the best selling retired Navy seal author.
27:49 So very great slate of interviews.
27:51 I've been working very hard to make sure that 2021 has some similar slates of interviews.
27:56 We might have a few repeats in there, but there should be some good things that we can
27:59 get to come to fruition in 2021.
28:02 But my favorite interview that I did in 2020 and it kind of just goes back to whatever you
28:08 guys thought it was most popular, but it is episode 119 with Pat McNamara.
28:13 That interview was so much fun.
28:16 I enjoyed just preparing for the podcast, just going through his content and putting
28:21 the stuff out there and getting it ready to go, but it was also just so interesting to
28:24 hear him kind of talk through different subject matters.
28:28 And you know, obviously I agree with a lot of things that he says, you know, we did get
28:31 to have a little bit of a spiritual conversation as well, but you know, it was kind of hard
28:35 to pick your favorite interview of the year, just because it was like picking your favorite
28:38 kid, which for some of you, I know you actually have your favorite kid.
28:40 But that was just such a fun interview.
28:43 A lot of guys have gone back and listened to it.
28:45 It's consistently, even though it was released a really long time ago, it's consistently had
28:49 good, strong listens and downloads since the time that it was released.
28:53 So that's my favorite interview of 2020.
28:56 And then now we're going to wrap up the undaunted life, a man's podcast awards with my favorite
29:01 episode overall of 2020.
29:03 And this is going to be a package deal because I really couldn't narrow it down to one.
29:07 But this could have been one episode, but I just saved you all from having to listen
29:10 to a four hour episode, but it is episodes 142, 143 and 144.
29:14 So those are the first three parts of the race in America series.
29:18 So this is a series that's probably going to continue because this subject is not going
29:22 away.
29:23 And the importance of the subject is certainly not waning over time.
29:26 But I got to say, when I look back on the year, every time when I thought about the year
29:31 and I thought about the podcast, it was those shows that came to mind first.
29:36 Because it was so hard to prepare as I've talked about earlier, but also I was really,
29:40 really proud with what I put out there.
29:42 So I've let a few months go by and I've re listened to these episodes and I've re listened to
29:47 them even here recently.
29:49 And I feel like they stand up.
29:50 I know, you know, the summer doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but some of you
29:53 seems like it was forever ago.
29:54 That's how it seems to me.
29:56 But the content still stands up because I feel like these episodes will still be relevant
30:00 years from now.
30:01 And a lot of the content that we went into will have, you know, some of the issues may
30:05 have been exacerbated.
30:06 Some of the issues may have changed a little bit in terms of their intensity.
30:09 But I feel like the content is going to be be good.
30:12 It's going to be evergreen for a very, very long time.
30:14 So those are my favorite episodes of the year.
30:18 And I again, I think you can listen to those three back to back to back.
30:21 They're heavy, but definitely good.
30:23 So we're going to go ahead and transition now into the other awards.
30:26 So we're going to talk about some other episodes of this podcast.
30:29 Now, last year, I kind of wanted to make some categorical inclusion so that we could,
30:33 I could spend some time talking about some more episodes and some more individual podcast
30:38 shows.
30:39 But what I realized is the categories that I created, I kind of have the same opinions
30:43 as this year.
30:44 So I'll just basically run down the same thing that I said last year.
30:46 The most entertaining podcast show for this year was the Bill Burr Monday morning podcast.
30:50 Again, he's my favorite comedian.
30:52 It's just kind of a reprieve from all the serious stuff I take in.
30:55 The most thought provoking podcast show of the year is the Ben Shapiro show.
30:57 Again, I listened to him Monday through Friday.
30:59 And then he also had the Sunday special, the Sunday conversation that he's been doing.
31:03 But, you know, a lot of the political things and a lot of the social things that were happening
31:06 this year were kind of ran through the prism of that show.
31:09 So that's a very important podcast, very thought provoking.
31:12 The most important podcast show of 2020 is the briefing with Albert Mueller.
31:16 Again, I feel like he does a very great job of breaking down modern topics into the lens
31:22 of Christianity.
31:23 And so whatever is in popular media or popular news, he's going to be going through that.
31:27 The best short form podcast, that's the way I heard it with Mike Rowe.
31:30 We've already talked about that one.
31:31 It's long form podcast.
31:32 I don't really need to spend much time here.
31:34 Obviously, that's a Joe Rogan experience.
31:36 He just does, you know, two or three, two to four hour episodes a week.
31:41 So it's just these long form conversations with some of the most interesting people on
31:44 planet earth.
31:45 But I am going to change my best podcast show overall of 2020 because last year I said
31:51 it was the Jordan B. Peterson podcast because it was last year, but this year has been a
31:55 little bit weird.
31:56 You know, Jordan Peterson was obviously recovering from some severe illness.
31:59 So they just tried to read shred a lot of his old content.
32:03 They did his biblical series again, which was awesome.
32:05 But then they did some of his classroom speaking stuff that he did, some of his lectures from
32:11 his classrooms and some of those were good.
32:13 Some of those weren't so good.
32:14 And so I would say probably the best podcast show overall this year for me was the Joe
32:18 Rogan experience.
32:19 I listened to just about every episode that was released this year had a lot of big chunks
32:23 of time where I was able to do that.
32:25 And so he just had some really incredible chats with people.
32:28 There were a lot of very entertaining episodes.
32:30 So that's probably the best show overall of 2020.
32:33 But now I'm going to get into the last couple of categories here, which I'm going to talk
32:37 about the most important podcast episode of 22 or 2022, 2020, the most important podcast
32:43 episode of 2020 and then the best podcast episode of 2020.
32:47 So those are not the same thing ones.
32:48 The most important one was just the best.
32:50 I thought this one was the best.
32:51 Okay.
32:52 So the most important podcast episode of 2020 was an individual podcast episode of the Matt
32:57 Walsh show.
32:58 And this was episode 528 called when the media says an unarmed man was shot by cops.
33:05 It's usually a lie.
33:07 So this was from July 24th of this year.
33:10 And it was an amazing episode, but it's the first 23 minutes that I really want to focus
33:16 on and that I would just implore you to make sure that you go and find it.
33:20 And I will have the YouTube link here in the show notes, but I'm going to actually let
33:23 Matt Walsh do the introduction of basically what he was going to be talking about on
33:28 this episode.
33:29 So he's going to spend about a minute here kind of introing what he's going to talk
33:32 about on that episode.
33:33 So here it is in his own words.
33:36 You know, I've already made the case that systemic racism in law enforcement is a myth.
33:41 The claim that racist police are prowling the streets searching for black men to murder
33:45 is absurd on its face.
33:47 And then even absurdr when you look at the facts, it's now I think been pretty well
33:53 publicized, at least in some corners, that despite all the panicking and rioting over
33:58 race-based police brutality, allegedly race-based police brutality, only a very small number
34:04 of unarmed black men are killed by police each year.
34:09 But an even closer look at the data and a study of each quote, unarmed killing reveals
34:16 that the real number of unjustified police shootings of actual unarmed people, black
34:24 white or any other race, is much, much smaller than it even first appears.
34:32 And so that is the introduction.
34:34 And then he goes on again, it's about the first 23 minutes or so of this episode.
34:39 He does a deep dive into the statistics around police involved shootings in the United States
34:44 with all races, but specifically with black people, right, because there's all this talk
34:48 about how white racist white cops are going out and literally hunting down black men in
34:53 the streets.
34:54 You got people like LeBron James saying that, you people have like Barack Obama alluding
34:57 to it.
34:58 You have people just outright saying it, you know, in the NBA and in different things
35:00 like that.
35:01 But he gets into the actual data because I believe in episode 142 when I first talked
35:06 about the Washington Post stat about how nine unarmed black men were killed in 2019 by
35:11 the police.
35:12 It looks like that number has ended up being more like 14 or 15, right?
35:15 And it wasn't like, oh, they found more.
35:17 It's just that the stats are different for different people in terms of how they've,
35:21 how they've gathered them and how they've moved them around.
35:23 But he actually went into each one of those cases, each one of those 14 cases and looked
35:28 at what was going on.
35:29 And you would be shocked to find out that some of these people were quote unquote unarmed,
35:34 but at the time that they were shot and killed, they were in the process of trying to run the
35:38 officers over with their cars.
35:40 Or they were doing other things dangerous, just not with guns or knives or, you know,
35:44 nunchucks in their hands or something like that.
35:47 And so I think that is the most important podcast episode of 2020, because I have not
35:51 heard anybody else anywhere else break down that, that whole category of statistics in
35:58 the way that Matt Walsh did on that episode.
36:01 No conservative media, certainly no liberal media.
36:04 I haven't seen it on any other podcast where someone's like, wait a minute, wait a minute.
36:08 We just accept this unarmed black man trope that, that they were just basically sitting
36:13 on a park bench, reading the Bible, eating a sandwich.
36:16 And then they were murdered by these racist white cops and a lot of people just accept
36:18 that whole cloth.
36:19 But even if you don't accept that whole cloth, you accept the fact that 14 people were killed
36:24 unjustly.
36:25 They were doing nothing wrong and the police made a mistake and shot them.
36:29 And the number of times that that actually happens where a police officer acted so reprehensible
36:34 that someone ended up losing their life because of their negligence or their recklessness
36:37 or whatever, it's so much fewer than even 14.
36:41 So it's already a very, very small fraction of a fraction of a problem that people are
36:45 saying is the kind of this big epidemic in modern American society.
36:49 But then he breaks it down even further and says, it's, it's even, it's not nearly as
36:53 bad as it even seems with those statistics in mind.
36:56 And so I think it was a very thorough way of doing this.
36:59 And again, no one else did it, like that I know of.
37:02 And if you know someone else, let me know.
37:05 That's why I think that's the most important episode of 2020 because no one else did it.
37:08 I didn't see it anywhere else.
37:10 And guys, I wanted like play the entire 23 minutes here, but I don't think I could get
37:14 away with that legally.
37:15 So you should definitely check that out and I will make sure that's in the show notes.
37:18 But now I'm going to go on to the last ward of the day and that's going to be the best
37:21 podcast episode of 2020.
37:23 And I am going to give you an honorable mention because I'm not going to do two.
37:26 I actually did break it down to where it was one episode, but my honorable mention for best
37:30 podcast episode of 2020 is the Joe Rogan experience 19 or 1492.
37:35 And that is with Jocko Willink and that was from June 15th of this year.
37:39 So this was right in the middle of the pandemic, right in the middle of all the social unrest.
37:42 It was in the summer and it was just Joe and Jocko talking.
37:45 And so a lot of great things that they went over.
37:47 But another reason why this was kind of special and why it went so well is because the previous
37:51 time that Jocko appeared on the Joe Rogan experience, it was whenever Joe Rogan interviewed
37:56 him and Tulsi Gabbard at the same time.
37:58 So Tulsi Gabbard was running for the Democratic ticket to become president.
38:02 You know, she didn't get anywhere close.
38:04 A lot of people thought it was because the Democratic establishment didn't like her and
38:07 she was trying to, you know, basically knock people off and whatever.
38:10 But I find Tulsi Gabbard to be incredibly uninteresting.
38:14 She has some interesting ideas that are basically, you know, reported in the media or on Twitter,
38:19 but I felt like that entire time that Joe and Jocko were just sitting there with their
38:23 tongues hanging out of their head at this attractive, powerful woman who's in Congress
38:28 and she, she trains fighting and she serves and she all that.
38:32 And they just kept defaulting to her and she kept not having very important things or interesting
38:37 things to say.
38:38 I thought it was a wicked lame podcast.
38:40 I know a lot of people liked it.
38:42 I thought it was so stupid.
38:43 When I got to the end of it, I was like, great, I wish I could have heard Joe and Jocko talking,
38:47 but they just kept deferring to Tulsi Gabbard, who just wasn't saying anything of substance.
38:52 And so I was so glad that they did another interview and it was just Jocko and just Joe
38:56 Rogan.
38:57 I mean, kind of the worst part of the podcast with Jocko and Joe was whenever they honestly
39:01 spent a ton of time talking about how Dwayne the Rock Johnson would be a great president.
39:05 And so it's like, I know people just kind of pick some celebrity that they like or they
39:09 like their Instagram or they seem really nice or they have a nice smile and they're like,
39:11 I bet they could be president.
39:13 And again, if Donald Trump can be president, I guess, you know, maybe you can be president.
39:17 Who knows?
39:18 But at the end of the day, I didn't really like that part of the podcast because they just
39:20 really just kept drawing on and on and on about it.
39:23 But over that three hour interview, I think that there was a lot of great things said.
39:26 You know, Jocko is a is a great mind.
39:29 And so is Joe Rogan in terms of a lot of these cultural and societal issues on the ground
39:33 level.
39:34 So that was my honorable mention for best podcast episode of 2020.
39:37 But my favorite episode, the best podcast episode of 2020 is from the Jordan B. Peterson
39:43 podcast.
39:45 And it was ones that were released here recently on November 8th and November 15th.
39:48 This is a single episode that was split up into two episodes.
39:51 So I'm kind of counting it as one, but it's season three, episode 31 and 32.
39:56 And it's about Carl Jung, but it's not just about Carl Jung, because if you're just scrolling
40:00 through, you see the names of all these different philosophers and psychologists and things
40:04 like that, you'd be like, Oh, I'm going to kind of skip through these people.
40:07 But he did an incredibly in depth breakdown of the movie, The Lion King.
40:14 And he used Carl Jung and some of his research and writings as kind of the basis for his
40:20 analysis of the Lion King.
40:22 And guys, you are probably shocked that I said that.
40:25 But the Lion King was, you know, everybody's favorite movie when I was a kid.
40:29 I think that movie came out when I was five or six years old.
40:32 So it's been a seminal movie.
40:33 It's I think it's still the most successful Disney movie of all time.
40:36 I'm talking about the original, you know, the animated version, not the one that they
40:40 released here recently, which wasn't, wasn't terrible, but it wasn't as good as the original
40:43 cartoon version, the animated version.
40:45 But he does such an amazing breakdown because I can remember each scene, essentially of
40:51 that movie.
40:52 And so as he's describing these different scenes and describing these archetypes and
40:56 describing these, these large scale topics, they all just kind of ring true to me.
41:00 I'm like, yeah, that's totally makes sense.
41:02 And it's just, it's such a deeper story.
41:05 And that's the reason why it works.
41:07 And the thing is, is the people that work for Disney, they're, these are not accidental
41:10 people.
41:11 The people that just, you know, they can ride a little bit or maybe they're a little bit
41:13 funny or they can, they can draw a little bit.
41:15 These are people that understand the deep caverns of the human psyche, I guess you could say.
41:23 That's why these stories work.
41:25 That's why a story like the Lion King can be so, so deep and so important.
41:30 And so this is one of those movies that I'm going to make sure that sweet baby James watches
41:34 as part of his upbringing.
41:35 I'm sure he'll have his own movies, but he's going to watch that.
41:37 He's going to watch the sandlot, you know, whenever he's of age, you'll watch a gladiator
41:40 and different things like that.
41:42 But I just thought that this was such an incredible breakdown of, of something that we all know
41:47 so well.
41:49 And it just shed some light on to the fact that this is important for a particular reason.
41:54 So that is the best podcast episode of 2020.
41:57 Again, it was kind of broken into two episodes, but they were both very, very interesting
42:01 to, to view and to listen to.
42:03 So I definitely want you guys to check those out.
42:05 So those are my episode awards for the year.
