This is a Daunted Life of Man's Podcast. I'm your host Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.
0:45
All right, guys. I've been excited, like literally giddy for this podcast all year, okay? We're
0:50
going to be going over our favorite podcasts of all of 2018. So we're going to be talking about
0:55
some of our favorite shows, some of our favorite individual episodes, and make sure that you tune
1:01
in or stay listening all the way to the end of this podcast because we are going to give you
1:04
our favorite individual episode of the entire year. So because there's so many different things
1:10
that you can look at, but if there was one individual episode that I wanted you guys to hear,
1:13
it would be this one. So make sure you stick around for that. And guys, here's the thing
1:17
about podcasting, which is why I love it so much. It's just an amazing way to get a ton of information
1:23
in a short period of time. I mean, you're not, it's not the same time commitment as like an entire
1:29
audiobook because I know a lot of you guys like to do audiobooks in this year. I had three of those
1:33
audiobooks I took down three of them, but it's all kinds of subjects. You get access to all kinds of
1:39
very, very interesting people, and you can suit it to your time availability and your interests.
1:45
And that's the thing that's so great about podcasts. I mean, I've pretty much eradicated music from
1:49
my life, unless I'm taking a shower or something like that, because I'm trying to squeeze in
1:53
as many podcasts as possible. So for me guys, just me personally, I listened to about 40
1:59
individual podcast episodes a week. Okay. So that's, you know, an episode that might be seven or eight
2:07
minutes long. And then some episodes from some podcasts are like over five hours long. But I'm
2:12
listening to an average of about 40. So this year, guys, I've listened to or, yeah, I guess that would
2:18
be it. Sorry, I was doing math in my head guys. This year, I've listened to over 2000 podcasts,
2:22
2000 individual podcast episodes. And you might be thinking to yourself, like, how in the world
2:27
is that possible? Like, how could you possibly do that? And I've talked about this a few times on
2:32
the podcast before, but I've encouraged a lot of people to start doing this. And I've actually
2:36
gotten a lot of people in my personal life to start doing this. But you have to listen to podcasts at
2:41
two time speed. And some of you all are like, what? Like, some of you don't even know that your
2:46
podcast can go to two time speed. Yes, you can go everything from half speed to one, one and a half
2:51
to two time speed on most devices on, you know, most of the applications that you'll use for podcasts.
2:57
But if you listen to things at two time speed, again, guys, this is not some earth shattering
3:00
news here, you can listen to twice as many podcasts, right? I mean, that's just how it goes. If you're
3:06
doing two time speed, you're getting twice the amount of information in. And so I mean,
3:10
I was just like everybody else years and years ago, just listening to everything at one time speed.
3:14
But here's the thing, guys, as most people talk at a cadence, that's kind of like this.
3:19
They're making their points. It's pretty deliberate. They're going from one thing to the next thing
3:24
and talking about it. But if you take it up to two time speed and you talk a little bit faster
3:28
and just kind of give somebody an idea where you're going and at what point you're going to be going
3:30
at, you kind of get what I'm saying? Like, you can still hear what I'm saying, because the thing is
3:35
just ask yourself, if you listen to a podcast episode, do you remember everything that was said?
3:40
Of course you don't. Like, you remember the things that were important to you. You remember
3:45
the things that were really entertaining or really funny or really impactful, whatever the thing
3:49
might be. You're not remembering the individual words. Like, when you listen to people that explain
3:53
how you should speed read, one of the first rules of speed reading is not reading every single word.
3:58
I mean, if you're just going to be skimming a paragraph, you're not reading all the those and
4:03
ofs and ands like, you're just not reading those things, because those things aren't really important
4:07
in terms of, you know, the totality of the narrative you need to get, they're just important to
4:11
send it structure. You know what I mean? And so the same thing is true with podcasts,
4:15
because when you're listening to something at two time speed, your brain is going to start picking
4:19
up on the things that know it knows you're going to be interested in, right? Sounds weird to say it
4:23
that way, but your brain gets used to it. It absolutely gets used to it because I have people
4:28
that, you know, they've only listened to things at one time speed and maybe they're not that quick
4:32
and they bump it up to like one and a half and they're like, Oh my gosh, I can't even understand
4:35
what they're saying. But I promise you, if you just go to two time speed, don't like piecemeal
4:40
your way there. But if you go up to two time speed, give it two or three days, and then your brain
4:44
will have gotten used to it. Like if I'm if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, shoot me an email and you
4:49
know, I'll apologize to you individually and personally, but I'm telling you, listen to two
4:53
time speed. But here's the other way that I get in so many podcasts in a week and in a year is to
4:59
just listen to them at every chance that you can guys. I mean, I have guys that are just like,
5:04
man, I just don't have time for this or I don't have time for that. But there's a lot of time wasted
5:09
on things that just aren't really that important. And again, I'm this is not about, you know, music
5:13
versus podcasting. But just think about your commute. I know for a lot of you guys, you know,
5:18
maybe it's 15 minutes, 30 minutes for some of you, it's several hours commuting to and from work.
5:23
What about when you're working out? I mean, working in the yard, mowing the lawn,
5:27
weed eating, you know, blowing everything off at the end, you know, here's something that I do.
5:31
I will listen to podcasts while podcasts while I watch sports. Because if I'm watching a Cardinals
5:36
game or a Thunder game or MMA or something like that, like if it's a super tense moment,
5:41
you know, I want to hear the crowd. I want to hear what the announcers have to say. But I will mute
5:46
the television and I'll listen to a podcast. I'll literally like set my phone on my stomach and
5:50
just listen to something. So I'm kind of pulling double duty a little bit. I mean, when I'm walking
5:54
the dog, if you're cooking or cleaning or grilling out or something like that, there's a lot of chances
5:58
to listen to podcasts. But again, I'm not telling you, you know, be a bad husband, you know, ignore
6:03
your wife and just listen to podcasts or ignore time with your kids. But guys, I mean, get creative.
6:08
There are a lot of opportunities for you to do that. And here's the other thing. This is where I am
6:13
going to kind of go at music a little bit. Those songs that you listen to, while you're working out
6:18
or whatever the thing might be, you're like, Oh, you're convincing yourself that that's what's
6:21
getting you motivated. That's what's helping you run. And that's what's helping you do what you do.
6:25
It's not the music guys. I know music gets me pumped up. Like I said, I mean, you know,
6:29
metal music gets me pumped up. But like at the end of the day, it's not really helping the
6:32
workout very much. And if you're going on a run and there's nothing in your ears, like,
6:36
it's just a very good opportunity for you to be able to get things in to get that content in.
6:42
I know a lot of guys that message me, they're like, Oh, you know, every Thursday when I run,
6:45
like it's your podcast. That's what I'm listening to. And so it's just one of those things again,
6:49
two times speed, do it every chance you get, and then you'll be able to get more content in. I mean,
6:54
there's so many more podcasts coming online. And there's so many people realizing that this medium
6:58
is incredibly important. So I just want to make sure I get that out there to you guys that I could
7:03
not suggest more highly that you get into podcasts maybe even deeper than you are right now.
7:08
All right, guys, so this is how we're going to do this episode today. So we're going to go over the
7:12
best podcast of 2018. So I'm going to take you through, you know, some of the podcast episodes
7:17
that I thought were great for podcasts that I'm not currently subscribed to. Also, for podcasts
7:23
that I'm not currently subscribed to, but I used to be subscribed to there's some individual podcasts
7:28
where there weren't like individual episodes that were anything crazy. It just it wasn't really the
7:33
format for it. But I'll kind of go through some of the the subscribe to podcasts that we really
7:38
enjoy. And then towards the end, we'll get into the best individual episodes from the subscribe
7:43
podcast that we have. And so yeah, there's a lot of different information here. And so I'm going to
7:48
do my best to give you show notes that will help reflect some of this. But let's just go ahead and
7:52
launch in here. So this is the podcast that I'm not currently subscribed to, but there are individual
7:57
episodes that were really legit. So the first one, the podcast is your move with Andy Stanley.
8:03
And the episode was what happy couples know part two, it's mutual from March 11th of 2018. And so,
8:11
so guys, just kind of give you an idea. I'm going to give you the podcast title. I'll give you the
8:15
podcast, like the overall, like what the show's called, I'll give you the individual episode title.
8:20
But then for you that are wanting to go back and find that an individual episode, I'll make
8:24
sure to give you the date. Because for most of these podcasts, they don't delete old episodes.
8:29
And so especially not episodes within the last year. So you'll be able to go back and find those.
8:32
So your move with Andy Stanley. So what this is is, and if you're in certain areas of the country,
8:37
and you're watching television after Saturday night live, or you have Netflix, you're familiar
8:42
with your move. But what your move is, is they are, it's basically 30 minute versions of Andy
8:48
Stanley sermons. So Andy Stanley, pastor of North Point Community Church out in the Atlanta area.
8:52
He's been a little bit of a lightning rod for controversy this year from more of our reformed
8:58
folks and friends. But his sermons are typically 40 45 minutes long, very atypical for a modern
9:05
pastor. But this one kind of cuts out a little bit of the fluff from the sermons has a little bit
9:09
of an intro and an outro. And then it just presents it in a 30 minute little segment,
9:14
because it's shown on television and it's on Netflix. And so it's a really, it's a really nice way to
9:19
get some of Andy Stanley's content without that extra 10 or 15 minutes. And it's not that that
9:23
10 or 15 minutes isn't important. It's just that it's not integral to the message. So that individual
9:28
episode was talking specifically about married couples and how happy couples take care of one
9:34
another. And this one specifically was taking into account what happens whenever each person
9:39
in the die out of the couple is giving it their all. Okay, so your move with Andy Stanley. The next
9:45
one, the upper or the name of the podcast is labeled the stories, rumors and legends of tooth and nail
9:51
records. And so to give you a little bit about this, so for any of you guys that are into Christian
9:56
metal or alternative music, tooth and nail records is something that you will you will 100% recognize.
10:01
So some of the bands like Zao, August Burns, Red, you know, some of the solid state bands,
10:07
which are also under the tooth and nail banner. You have your under oath and Norma Jean and
10:11
Emory and big bands like that. But basically what this podcast does, it is taking you behind the
10:18
scenes of what some of these big bands went through, some of the things that were happening on the
10:22
road, some of the things that were happening within the band when they broke up or how they
10:26
founded the bands and different things like that. And so one of the things about this podcast,
10:31
that's one of the reasons why I'm not subscribed to it's because it's a little bit depressing.
10:35
Just got to be honest, because for me, a lot of these bands, when I was coming up in the Christian
10:41
metal scene, that's when I was really becoming a Christian and trying to figure out what being
10:45
a man was like and how, you know, why I don't like worship music, why does worship music suck so bad,
10:50
but I'm really drawn to this metal. And the thing about this podcast that kind of is a little bit
10:54
depressing is a lot of these bands that I looked at and just looked up to these guys as legit
10:58
Christians, they were not legit Christians. These were dudes that knew that they could either make
11:04
50 bucks playing their music at a local bar that night, or they could get a hundred or a thousand
11:09
bucks or 1200 bucks from a local church, right? All they had to do was say they were Christians,
11:13
maybe have some, you know, weird, Christianity type things on their on their record cover,
11:19
the album cover or something like that. And it's just kind of one of those things that that's what
11:23
a lot of these bands did. They were basically stealing from people and lying to him, letting
11:27
these kids pray for him after shows and all that. And they just had they had no reality of who
11:31
the Jesus was. But the episode that I really liked was called the real Zayo part two, which was
11:37
episode 18, which was released on January 31st of 2018. And so my favorite band of all time is Zayo.
11:44
I love this band. This was the second Christian metal band that I listened to after
11:50
Oh, literally living sacrifice. Okay, living sacrifice reborn. That was the first album I had.
11:55
And then it was Zayo blood and fire. That was the one that I got there after. And so this one kind
12:00
of gets into again, it's a two parter. Just what's going on within the band. And this band doesn't
12:05
consider itself Christian now, but there are guys within the band that consider themselves
12:09
Christians. But for anyone that's a fan of metal music of tooth and nail records solid state,
12:14
but especially of Zayo, that's going to be an episode you'll really enjoy. All right,
12:17
the next podcast is called waking up with Sam Harris. And the individual episode is the intellectual
12:23
dark web with Ben Shapiro and Eric Weinstein. And that was released on January 1st of 2018.
12:30
And so here's one of those things for the internal intellectual dark web. So you're going to see
12:34
this on a lot of the things that we get into on this podcast is this is a group of individuals
12:38
that's kind of bucking the system a little bit. And it's comprised of a lot of individuals
12:43
that don't necessarily seem like they would get along. So again, Sam Harris, ardent atheist,
12:48
very militant atheist, Ben Shapiro, you know, Jewish guy, conservative, Eric Weinstein,
12:55
super, super Bernie Sanders, left wing liberal. But then also included in the intellectual dark
13:00
web, you'll have your Joe Rogans and your Jordan Peterson's and individuals like that. And you
13:04
know, Ruben and some of those individuals. But anytime I'm not going to really get into what
13:10
happened in this episode, because here's, here's the thing that I really want what I want one
13:14
day is I want Sam Harris and Ben Shapiro on opposite sides of a debate stage.
13:18
That's what I want because they've kind of done that a little bit. They've done some conversations
13:23
in front of people, but they've both been really, really polite, which I'm not saying you have,
13:28
you can't be polite debates, but they've been like overly polite and they kind of let each
13:32
other get away with some different things. But this doesn't really get there, but you can kind of
13:37
since there's that tension between Ben Shapiro and Sam Harris and Eric Weinstein, he pretty much
13:41
created the intellectual dark web or at least pin the name. But it was just in a very, very
13:47
interesting conversation. I can't suggest that you listen to the waking up podcast with Sam Harris
13:52
all the time, just because this is a guy that literally just mocks Christianity mocks any type
13:56
of belief. He's kind of an equal opportunity offender when it comes to any type of religious
14:01
belief. He thinks we're highly evolved monkeys that evolved from fish that you just kind of were
14:06
here by by happenstance. And he just happens to be a moral man because of the French enlightenment.
14:10
So can't can't suggest that you listen to it at all times. But this episode was very, very interesting.
14:15
All right, guys, the next podcast is the order of man podcast. And the two episodes I wanted to
14:20
draw your attention to were FF in 099, how to write a book which was released on March 16th of this
14:27
year, and episode 165 boys adrift with Dr. Leonard Sacks. And that was released on May 15th of 2018.
14:35
So the how to write a book was just interesting because he itself, I think kind of self published
14:40
a book this year that I believe has done pretty well. The guy I can't remember his last name,
14:44
but it's Ryan something that that runs this podcast. And then the boys adrift book with Dr.
14:50
Leonard Sacks. This is a guy that's done a whole lot of research on sex and also what's been going on
14:55
with with boys in this transgender, gender confusion thing that's going on. So it was a very,
15:00
very interesting podcast episode. But the thing that I wanted to talk about in terms of order of man
15:06
is I know a lot of you guys out there listen to order of man podcasts. I used to listen to it
15:12
a lot. And when you find our podcast, a lot of times you'll be suggested to look at theirs and
15:19
vice versa. The reason why I stop listening to this podcast, and I've gotten the same feedback
15:23
from some other guys as well, is the Ryan guy that runs the podcast. He just seems like he's
15:29
fake in it. Like I, I don't want to be overly critical of a man that I don't know. But just,
15:36
that was a thought that just kept coming to my mind whenever I would hear him talk and give his
15:41
feedback and how he worded things and how his voice sounded at different points in the inflection.
15:46
It was just like, man, is this dude faking it? Like, is he really? Anyway, the thing is, is if
15:54
you've listened to that podcast for any length of time, it's kind of hard for me to give it words,
15:57
but it just makes sense that that it is this way. Because I've had several other people say,
16:01
dude, you're yes, okay, I thought I was weird. I thought I was a crazy person. But the guy just
16:06
seems like a faker. But here's the thing. Let's say he is a phony. Let's say the dude is just a
16:10
phony. He's a big pansy. And this whole manhood thing, he's just taking advantage of whatever.
16:14
He still gets a lot of really great guests on his podcast. That was the one though. The one thing I
16:19
miss about the podcast is the dude gets a lot of really, really good people to come on there and
16:23
talk about manhood and raising sons and all those different things. So again, I'm not dogging you
16:28
if you're, if you're listening to that podcast, but maybe listen to it through the lens with a
16:32
little bit of skepticism to see if you're kind of feeling the same way that me and my friends have
16:36
felt. All right, guys, a couple more on this section. One is the startup camp podcast with Chris
16:41
Grave. And so they've changed this podcast a little bit because I haven't listened to this
16:45
podcast for a very, you know, I haven't listened to it for a while. But there was one episode I
16:50
wanted to draw you to again, the startup camp podcast. It was the episode released on May 12th
16:55
of this year. And it was how women can help men steal back their masculinity with John Eldridge.
17:01
And so obviously, if you're listening to this and you don't know who John Eldridge is, it's
17:05
probably a little bit of a problem because Wild at Heart is one of those seminal books that has
17:09
affected a lot of people, especially in the Christian ministry space when it comes to men
17:13
for a very, very long period of time. But John Eldridge, his ministry has a podcast, but it kind
17:18
of sucks. And they're transitioning a lot of the stuff to his sons, which in my opinion has not
17:24
gone terribly well. I don't think his sons are terribly interesting individuals to listen to to
17:29
to be honest. But this podcast was one of those few places where John Eldridge's content popped up
17:35
this year. And so I thought that would be good to share with you guys. All right, the last one
17:39
in this section is the podcast history on fire. And so if you're familiar with Joe Rogan's podcast,
17:44
he had the the, uh, Benelli, he had the guy that was basically running this podcast on his podcast
17:50
and on his show earlier this year. But there are three episodes that go right back to back to back
17:56
that I thought were incredibly powerful, incredibly moving and very, very interesting. Okay. And these
18:01
were, um, I'm just going to read them out here. They were released on the seventh of March of this
18:07
year, the eighth of March of this year, and then the fourth of April this year. So it is episode 32a,
18:12
anything that moves part one, the parallel stories of Sand Creek and me lie episode 32b,
18:18
anything that moves part two, the parallel stories of Sand Creek and me lie and episode 33
18:22
on good and evil from me lie to Sand Creek. Um, and so if you guys aren't familiar with what,
18:28
what these are, so Sand Creek, that's obviously referring to where the US, you know, the US army,
18:32
basically slaughtered hundreds of innocent people, uh, the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians and kind of
18:39
the issues that happened therein. And then me lies referring to the me lie massacre from the Vietnam
18:44
war, where American soldiers, uh, killed a bunch of non Viet Cong. And so you had three different
18:51
people in each one of these podcast episodes, basically talking about these stories and how they
18:55
related to the heart of man, because this again, it's called history on fire. It's a very historical
18:59
type of podcast, but this one brought in a lot of commentary about, okay, what was going through
19:04
these guys heads at that time. And the thing about these stories that I think is interesting for all
19:08
of us to think about is Sand Creek and me lie. We always think of ourselves. If we were there,
19:14
we wouldn't have let that happen, right? Like we wouldn't have been the, the soldier that would
19:18
have would have just went and mowed down innocent children and all these different things. But the
19:23
thing about it is, is you have to, you have to be very apparent or very aware of where we all land
19:28
in a lot of these things. In a lot of these situations, we would not necessarily have been the good
19:33
guy. I mean, you've heard Jordan Pearson talk about that when he's talking about the Gulag
19:36
archipelago is when Alexander Solzhenitsyn is describing things that are going on in the Gulags,
19:42
everyone always assumes that they're on the good side of that. And you know, if you're thinking
19:47
about the Holocaust, you're always thinking, well, I wouldn't have been in the SS. Like,
19:51
I wouldn't have been a brown shirt. I would have been any of those things. But we can't always assume
19:54
that. And so some of the podcasts I listened to are a little bit darker, because I don't ever
19:58
want to forget about the, the darkness that we have in us. And that's not because I'm ignoring
20:03
the light that we have in Jesus. But I just don't want to let that darkness go. So that wraps up
20:08
that section. Let's go and move on to the next section. And this will be very, very quick. But
20:12
these are podcasts that I'm not subscribed to. But I was either subscribed to them at some point in
20:17
the past, or these are ones that I just leave down at the bottom of my list. Because if I've
20:21
listened to everything up and I'm up to date on everything, these might be individual podcasts,
20:25
where I'll just click on them and, you know, try to find something else. So these are Tim Keller
20:30
sermons. And that's a podcast by gospel and live. So Tim Keller obviously passed around in New York
20:35
City, Presbyterian pastor, author of reason for God. And so the thing that about this podcast
20:42
that's super frustrating to me is they don't post his sermons regularly. So that's the biggest
20:46
reason why I'm not subscribed is because they don't post they'll post like two or three sermons a year,
20:51
like, and they're just out of nowhere. And there's no semblance or reason for why they posted them. So
20:55
I'm not really sure. So if anybody's listening to this, that has anything to do with that, that
20:59
turns up in New York, just holler at them. I holler at the media team and be like, what's
21:02
to deal with these, these podcasts? Because I would love to listen to his sermons every week.
21:05
But they're just not posted every week. But I will go in there and listen to some old ones.
21:08
Another one is Vodie Bockam. So I know a lot of you guys listened to Vodie Bockam, but it's Vodie
21:12
Bockam on sermon audio.com. So Vodie is an incredibly powerful pastor and speaker. So I'll go back
21:19
and listen to some of his stuff. Excuse me. We have the Unbreakable podcast with Tom Shea. So Tom
21:25
Shea is a former Navy SEAL sniper. Good buddy of mine. And he's got a podcast that I've actually
21:29
been interviewed on before, but he has a lot of very interesting guys that come on that podcast.
21:33
We have the Mark Driscoll podcast. It's called Mark Driscoll audio. So he runs a church he's
21:38
to run Mars Hill up in the Pacific Northwest, excuse me, Pacific Northwest. And, you know,
21:46
obviously there was a lot made about him transitioning out of ministry, but he's got a new ministry
21:50
now in the Phoenix area. And so I'll listen to his stuff from time to time. There's the Deadman
21:54
podcast. So shout out to the guys at Deadman. That was actually the first podcast episode.
21:58
I was ever interviewed on our podcast that I was ever interviewed on. So they do some really
22:02
interesting stuff over there. There's another one called criminal. It's a true crime podcast.
22:07
I'll just tell you straight up front. It's pretty interesting. The stories are not terribly dark.
22:13
They're just kind of, you know, some of them are kind of funny and different things like that.
22:16
But the gal that reads these stories, she is the worst. Like the big reason why I got out of that
22:23
is because I found a better true crime podcast. But her voice is just atrocious. It's so monotone.
22:28
It's a least interesting sounding voice you'll ever hear in your life. But the stories are pretty
22:33
good. And another one is a reasonable faith podcast. So that's William Lane Craig's podcast. So obviously
22:38
world name famous author theologian evangelist. And so the reason why I didn't stay subscribed to
22:45
that one is because a lot of the episodes were, you know, 15, 20 minutes long. But from the very
22:50
beginning, he would launch into some unbelievably deep theological topic without a whole lot of
22:56
background without a whole lot of foundational warning for anything. And so it was a little bit
23:02
hard to follow some of his because usually with a shorter podcast, I'll kind of like squeeze them
23:07
in as I'm making a quick errand or doing something like that. And so this was one of those where you
23:11
you had to like sit down and listen to every word, maybe not one that you would listen to at two
23:15
times speed. But that was the last one. So those are the ones that might be interesting to you guys.
23:18
So let's move on to the next section here in this next section. I'm just going to show or I'm
23:23
just going to read this list here. So these are podcasts that I am personally subscribed to
23:27
at this very moment. But there's not individual episodes that I think would be that interesting.
23:32
But in terms of in general, I think that these would be interesting to you guys just as a general
23:36
rule. So the first one is ask in T right anything. Ask in T right anything. So that is a podcast
23:43
that is in conjunction with another podcast we'll talk about later. But basically in T right,
23:48
you know, New Testament scholar, one of the most famous New Testament scholars out there.
23:52
This is a brand new podcast. I think that was just launched in like November or something like that.
23:56
But it's basically a Q and A with one of the most famous theologians alive right now. So that
24:00
was pretty interesting. And the episodes are fairly short. The next one is one that I just picked up
24:05
here recently, which is called cross examined with Dr. Frank Turic. And so Frank Turic has a radio
24:13
show and does apologetics and things like that. I haven't listened to too many of those episodes,
24:17
but I am currently subscribed to it and taking those in. The next podcast is the Ringer MLB show.
24:22
And so one thing about about podcasts and I don't know, maybe you guys can give me a couple of
24:27
examples of ones. But there's not a lot of great major league baseball or baseball centered podcast
24:32
episodes. Like I picked some up here and there and there was even like a Cardinals podcast that I
24:36
listened to at one time. But even that just got real boring. And I'm like, I love the Cardinals.
24:40
Everything about the Cardinals. I want to hear about all the minor league players, but it was just,
24:43
it just wasn't very compelling. So that's what I listened to to get my MLB fix. So if you guys know
24:48
of another one, please hit me up. The next one is you're welcome with Charles Sonnen. And so if
24:53
you know the name, Charles Sonnen, you're obviously an MMA fan. So he is considered by many to be the
24:57
greatest trash talker in the history of mixed martial arts. And so this is what I believe to be the
25:02
biggest MMA podcast out there. And so he does a Wednesday and a Friday of this podcast. And he has
25:07
guests on from time to time. But essentially, he just basically gives his takes on the previous
25:11
weekends, fight cards, and he'll talk about Bellator and UFC and all the different ones. And he'll
25:16
talk about the upcoming fight cards. And he doesn't a very cogent in an interesting way. And I will say,
25:21
I've gotten a lot of kind of differing opinions from Charles Sonnen. And so a lot of the the things
25:27
that I've listened to that I've kind of been able to develop my opinion in certain areas. It's because
25:31
Charles Sonnen basically put it in a way that no one was putting it. So he does things in a very
25:35
interesting way over there. The next podcast is the Ariel Hawaiianys MMA show. And so Ariel
25:40
Hawaiiany is kind of like the main guy, the main journalist when it comes to mixed martial arts. And
25:46
so this is his main show that he does that he's now with ESPN, because the UFC is now moving to ESPN.
25:52
That's their home instead of being with Fox, where they have been for the last seven years,
25:56
I believe they're now going to be with ESPN. So this is an incredibly exhaustive MMA show. It
26:01
happens every Monday. But he will have on guests for three or four hours. And so if there was a big
26:06
UFC from the previous weekend, he'll usually have some of the winners and losers from that.
26:11
Show on there. He's interviewed referees and he's interviewed, you know, the the gosh,
26:17
I'm trying to think of it. The people that are affiliated with the UFC is thinking about agents.
26:22
That was a word I was trying to think of. He's interviewing agents and managers of fighters.
26:26
It's a very interesting podcast. And the cool thing is, is like, if there's a fighter that you
26:29
don't really care about, or if there's someone's like really not that interesting, just fast forward
26:33
through it. So it's not really that big a deal. But very, very interesting show. The next one is
26:38
Bill Burr's Monday morning podcast. And so Bill Burr is a very famous comedian. He's
26:43
a very crass and very Boston comedian. But here's the thing that I really like about listening to
26:48
his podcast. Aside from the fact that he's just a guy with with no filter. And he just basically
26:54
says what he wants to say. One thing that's really obvious about this podcast is that Bill
26:58
Burr is on a little bit of a spiritual journey. And you hear it come out sometimes in some of the
27:04
comments he makes about the church. Or he makes about Catholicism or his upbringing in a Catholic
27:09
family and Irish Catholic family and the different things like that. But he just had a daughter, I believe,
27:14
a year and a half, two years ago. And his wife doesn't seem to be terribly religious. But
27:19
there's something in him right now. And he's talked about this over the last couple of months
27:23
that makes him want to start going back to church. Like he likes the idea of the whole family getting
27:28
together and going to church. And you know, he felt that, you know, feels like, you know, if you go to
27:32
church, you're you're kind of a better person. But he'll he'll immediately try to dismiss it. He'll be
27:36
like, ah, but you know, I don't really believe in most of that nonsense. He usually says it a little
27:40
bit more crassway than that. But he's like, I don't really believe in any of that. But it makes me
27:43
feel like a good person. So I go. And so it is kind of funny listening to him because this is just a
27:48
stream of consciousness podcast that he does. But you kind of get the sense that there's a guy on a
27:52
little bit of a journey. So that that's something to watch out for. Another one we listen to is louder
27:57
with Crowder. And so we've talked about this on the podcast before with his Change My Mind segments.
28:02
But it's basically just comedy for people that are on the conservative side of the political
28:07
agenda or political sphere. A lot of the stuff he does I don't think is funny. I think it's it's
28:12
offensive for offensive sake. But a lot of things that he does is very, very interesting. And he goes
28:17
about it in a way that most conservatives would never even think about. So it's interesting. But
28:21
they only post about one episode a week on there. The next one is bourbon pursuit, the official
28:26
podcast of bourbon. So I picked this up here recently. These dudes are nerds. But I love it.
28:31
Like they they just love all the minutiae and all the details about bourbon. And so they'll have on
28:37
these master distillers or tasters or people from some of these big distillery. So you'll think of
28:43
Woodford Reserve or Angels Envy or old Forrester or something like that. And they really get into
28:48
the weeds about what has happened with with brown liquor in America and specifically with bourbon
28:52
just in the last 10 years. Because growing up, I mean, if you would have went back a dozen 15
28:57
years, you would have never expected bourbon to be this popular. And it's popular all over all
29:02
over the world. It's certainly popular in America. But these guys have a lot of very interesting
29:05
people that are on the podcast and I'm interested in whiskey. And so that one's a cool one to listen
29:09
to. Sword and scale. That is the next podcast that we want to suggest to you guys sort and scale.
29:15
This one, this one will get you. I'm telling you, this is why I stopped listening to criminal.
29:21
This is a legit criminal, like podcasts, like a true crime podcast. But I will warn you guys,
29:29
this is not a podcast that you want to listen to with your kids around and you probably don't
29:33
want to listen to it with your wife around either. Some of these episodes are unbelievably graphic.
29:38
I mean, I've only listened to maybe about five or six episodes because I just had someone bring
29:43
this to my attention back in November, I believe. But man, it is brutal. Like they do not pull any
29:49
punches. They will bring in the audio of like some of the police interviews with some of these
29:54
criminals. They'll bring in a lot of these details. But just to kind of give you a sense. Now,
29:58
this is the most extreme episode. But just to make sure you all know where I'm coming from,
30:03
there was an episode where a 16 year old. And I think this was an episode that has been released
30:08
in the last year. But there was a 16 year old boy that murdered his mother with a hammer. So he
30:13
basically took a hammer, beat her in the head until he thought she was dead. But here she is with her
30:19
skull basically exposed because he had busted her skull so bad, but she was still moaning and making
30:24
noises as if she was alive. So this 16 year old psychopath took his hands and put it into his mom's
30:31
brain and started like scrambling it up like with his fingers, okay, until he felt like she had died.
30:37
And if the story ended there, you would be like, okay, that's pretty crazy. I don't know if I
30:41
want to listen to that. But let me just take you one step further. Then this 16 year old who was a
30:46
virgin decided that he would take off his mom's clothes and raper. She was dead. Okay, so unbelievably
30:56
graphic and brutal podcast, not all of them are like that. But most of them are pretty brutal.
31:02
Some of them are going to make you mad at the stuff that you you hear these people talk
31:07
and you hear how they're just completely unapologetic about what they've done and how they've done
31:11
it to certain people. But again, it's one of those podcasts that I'd like to listen to because it
31:16
reminds me of the depravity of human of human nature and of sin. But also, here's another big thing.
31:22
In all these situations, there were warning signs with these people, almost always men,
31:27
but they were warning signs that something was off. You know, you hear it with these serial killers,
31:32
they don't usually start with killing humans. They start with like torturing cats and dogs and
31:36
stuff like that, killing dogs, like that kind of thing. And so it's a good reminder to be to always
31:42
be on the lookout for people that are around me and to make sure that if something catches me a
31:46
little askew, that I should probably pay attention to that. And the last two here are both by Dan
31:51
Carlin. One is called common sense with Dan Carlin and the other is Dan Carlin's hardcore history.
31:57
So common sense is Dan, Dan Carlin's basically political commentary type podcast, but the big one
32:03
is hardcore history. So for any of you guys listening to podcast hardcore history is just
32:08
something that you have to be subscribed to, you have to be listening. But here's the thing about
32:12
these podcasts. The episodes are somewhere between three and five hours long, typically.
32:18
And some of them are serious. Like he did a series on World War one, it was like five
32:21
four hour long podcasts released over like a year, year and a half. So hardcore history, there's only
32:28
maybe three or four episodes released a year, but they are just huge and exhaustive. And so
32:34
just incredibly interesting content, he presents it in a way that is very compelling. And so this
32:39
is, you know, if you got a big yard and you're on the writing mower, put it on two times being
32:43
let Dan Carlin just kind of take you through it. So that's one that you stay, stay subscribed to,
32:48
but just know that you're not going to get a notification every week. Cool. So that wraps up
32:52
the list of the ones that were subscribed to without individual podcast episodes that are of
32:56
interest. So now we're going to get into the last section of the podcast here. And these are
33:00
episodes or podcasts that we are subscribed to. And then we're also going to get into detail with
33:05
some of the individual episodes that we feel like you guys should go back and listen to. So again,
33:09
the macro idea is that you'll pick up some of these podcasts that sound interesting to you.
33:14
But then also we've got some podcasts that kind of give you an idea of what some of the better
33:18
content that was presented was for for this year. So the very first one we're going to go through
33:23
and we're going to give this all to you on a list. So don't feel like you need to write it down
33:25
while you're driving. The first one is the briefing. And so this is with Albert Mueller.
33:30
And so Albert Mueller is a Southern Baptist theological seminary president. He's also a theologian.
33:36
Very, very interesting guy. But this is, I think the tagline for this podcast is daily news and
33:44
events from a Christian worldview. And so he, these are Monday through Friday podcasts.
33:49
And they're about 20, 25 minutes long. And they will go into a lot of different topics that are
33:53
incredibly pertinent and incredibly specific to that time period that you're in. And so to a certain
33:58
degree, I feel like Albert Mueller is kind of like my pastor in a lot of ways, like the pastor I
34:03
really want. Because like, I've been desperate for my pastors to like talk about really, really
34:07
controversial topics to kind of help us. Right. We talk about transgenderism on this podcast a
34:13
little bit. But it's kind of one of those things that, you know, even my pastor in my church right
34:16
now, they'll just kind of mention it. It's like, Oh, you know, when we used to live in a time when
34:20
boys or boys and girls or girls, and then they'll just go on with their sermon. It's like, no, I
34:24
can you take like three or four weeks to kind of, you know, teach us about this, like how we should
34:28
act. So here are the individual episodes from this year that I thought would be especially
34:32
interesting to you. And I'll just run through the list here. The first one is Wednesday, February 28,
34:37
2018. That is actually the name of the podcast episode. So I'm not just giving you the info. It's
34:41
called Wednesday, February 28, 2018. And this one was basically our boys broken and basically talking
34:48
about how modern society has devalued human life. The next one is Friday, March 16, 2018. And so
34:55
this one was talking about why the dad style of parenting is the key ingredient to a healthy home.
35:00
And then also the sterilization of play, how we've basically made, you know, playgrounds and
35:07
schools so so safe that kids are not really, you know, used to things going wrong. The next one is
35:13
Tuesday, May 22, 2018. This is an entire episode about how Pope Francis is basically accepting of
35:19
homosexuality. The next podcast was Thursday, August 2, 2018. And this one talked about the
35:26
re voice conference. So for a lot of you guys, you've you've heard about this on this podcast,
35:29
but in other places, but there was a conference this year called re voice, which was basically a
35:34
conference for people that consider themselves LGBTQ plus Christians, right? These are people
35:39
that were maybe celibate, some were not celibate, but they weren't acting out in these ways,
35:43
but still felt like they needed representation within the church. So he gives his opinion on that.
35:47
The next one is Friday, November 9, 2018. And this talked about the lawsuit between the boy scouts
35:53
of America and the Girl Scouts of America. And so kind of talked about a lot of the transgender
35:58
and gender confusions therein. The next episode is Wednesday, November the 21st, 2018. And this
36:04
was a really good episode about the theology behind Thanksgiving and how Thanksgiving is a very
36:10
important time period. So this was obviously posted during the week of Thanksgiving. And the last one
36:14
that I thought would be of interest to you is the one from Friday, December the 7 2018. And that was
36:18
basically the Catholic Church is impotence in Ireland right now. So they've lost moral authority,
36:24
so they can't really have theological authority either. And it was specifically talking about how
36:28
abortion is now legalized in the country of Ireland. And so this is a very, very important
36:33
podcast, one that I definitely think you guys should listen to. So we'll move on to the next one
36:37
here. The next one is called cross politic studios. And so you've heard me talk about cross politics
36:42
in a lot of different ways, but it's three guys that get together, I think two of them are on staff
36:46
at a church in Idaho. And they're basically will go over current events, they'll go over the state
36:53
of theology in a lot of different areas of life. But they will also have on people that they were
36:57
interviewed, some people that they just talked to and other people that they will debate from time
37:01
to time. So let me give you a few shows that I think that you would be interested in. The first
37:05
is called family meeting with Greg Johnson, pastor of Memorial Presbyterian's church and host church
37:10
of revoice.us. And this was the episode from July 15 of this year. And so this was the very,
37:18
very first episode of cross politic that I heard. So I had a buddy of mine that's in that's going
37:23
to Dallas Theological Seminary right now, shout out shout out to CJ. But he basically said,
37:28
you need to listen to this. I think you'd like these guys style. And I don't think I could have
37:33
got a better representation of their style than this exact podcast. Because this is basically,
37:37
again, the head pastor of the host of revoice and these three. And it was unbelievably tense.
37:44
But I loved it. I absolutely loved it. Because I really felt like the cross politic guys were
37:49
on the right side of this issue. And I felt like the pastor of Memorial Presbyterian's church
37:55
did a horrific job of defending his position. And they just didn't let him slide on it.
37:59
That's the thing that we see most of the times, you know, there I got some friends that run another
38:03
podcast. They had a guy come on talking about something similar to what was going on at the
38:07
revoice conference. And they just kind of let them off the hook. They let them, you know,
38:10
spend a bunch of theological nonsense. And they didn't call him on it. These guys called him on it.
38:15
I mean, even at the end of the podcast episode, they demanded that the pastor repent of his sin
38:21
and cancel the conference. I mean, it was pretty brutal, but I'm, but it was very interesting.
38:26
The next episode is why Democrats and Republicans have a crisis of responsibility.
38:30
This is from July 30th of this year. And so this was an interview with David, I think you say his
38:35
last name is bonsen B A H N S E N bonsen. And he's the author of the crisis of responsibility.
38:41
This is pretty straightforward stuff. But basically, we're basically, we're taking responsibility
38:44
away from our young people. And then whenever they become older people and they're running
38:48
government like our Democrats and Republicans are right now, there's a crisis of responsibility.
38:52
And they have no idea how to make it. They have no idea how to get through and do those things.
38:56
The next episode is called Jonathan Merritt on his new book, and why women should be pastors.
39:01
Question mark. And so that is from August 12th of this year. And so this was a conversation that
39:06
they had with the author of learning to speak God from scratch. This was another super tense
39:11
debate. So they're basically talking about the involvement of women in the church,
39:15
specifically within the clergy or pastors. And let's just say that Jonathan Merritt was on the
39:20
opposite side from these guys. And again, they just don't really let them off the hook with any
39:25
nonsense. So I really enjoyed their interaction. Another couple here. One is called show interview
39:30
with Gosnell movie producer Ann McElaney, Kavanaugh, baby parts and biblical justice. And that is
39:36
from October 1st of this year. And so we talked a lot on this podcast. We talked about it again last
39:41
week about the Gosnell movie and Ann McElaney is one of the producers that helped bring this to us.
39:46
And the thing I love about Ann McElaney, especially in this interview, whenever she obviously had
39:50
three guys that were on her side of the issue, is she's she's a very, very straightforward and
39:56
bold person on this issue. Because she is someone who was self proclaimed to be more so on the pro
40:02
choice side of things until she learned about what her Kermit Gosnell was doing. And so this
40:08
is an incredibly powerful woman. That's got a very bold message. And she portrays that here in
40:13
this episode. And the last one I wanted to talk to you guys about was one called a bigoted pastor
40:17
and atheist pastor and no quarter November with pastor Doug Wilson. So obviously, and this was from
40:24
November 19 of this year. So I did an entire podcast episode on no quarter November, just a few weeks
40:29
back. And so this is the pastor that came up with that. This is the pastor that kind of went in
40:34
on all these very, very controversial topics and talked about an at length. And so he is actually
40:39
the lead pastor of the church of the that these three guys, the three hosts of this show attend.
40:45
And again, I think two of them were on staff with. So it was a very interesting interaction to
40:49
basically hear them talk with their boss in the background and things like that. So again,
40:53
I would definitely check out that podcast called cross politics studios.
40:56
All right, guys, the next one is called a apology a radio. Sorry, kind of had a little bit of a
41:01
stutter there apology a radio. So this is Jeff Durban. A lot of you guys are familiar with Jeff
41:06
Durban. He's done a lot of outreach in at abortion mills to the Mormon church to any of the other
41:12
churches that kind of, you know, Jehovah's Witnesses, those things. And so very, very bold
41:17
guy, you know, very, very biblical and a lot of his approaches. So there's four episodes that I
41:22
wanted to kind of direct you to that might get you interested in this podcast. The first one
41:26
is called silly atheist science is for Christians. And this was from August 31st of this year. And
41:31
this was an interview with Dr. Kyle Staggs. He's a professor of chemistry, but he's basically running
41:36
through what we see a lot of Christian scientists talk about when it talks about the beauty of
41:42
creation and how everything is so dialed in and how scientists can't just claim all of that as their
41:48
own that there has to have been a creator at some point there. The next episode that I wanted to
41:52
draw your attention to is one called Jeff Durban refutes Andy Stanley. This is from June 7th of
41:58
this year. And so this one is where, you know, basically we had that sermon where Andy Stanley was
42:03
trying to show us the differences or the hangups that some people have with the Old Testament versus
42:09
the New Testament. Most people took what he said very, very literally. And if you go back to episode
42:14
23 of this podcast, I kind of give you an idea of kind of where I felt like Andy Stanley was coming
42:19
from, because I've listened to the guy speak for years and years and years. But it just kind of
42:23
Jeff Durban and his crew kind of went line by line through this sermon and kind of piece it apart
42:28
and tore it apart. It was a good thing though. Like I disagree with Jeff Durban on a lot of his
42:34
points and I felt like some of his points were unfair. But I felt like it was a good critique
42:37
and it was done well. The next podcast was number 253 and it was called debate with a Mormon. And
42:43
this is from October 5th of this year. And so this is Jeff, Jeff Durban and author James White
42:48
debating a guy named Kweku. That's K-W-A-K-U. And this is a Mormon apologist guy. And let's just
42:55
say things did not go very well for Kweku. Because these guys have done a lot of research and a lot
43:00
of writing on Mormonism and all the issues they're in. And the thing that was so important to me
43:08
is because I don't know a whole lot about Mormonism. I do know that what I do know about it is that
43:14
it's an additional revelation that it's under very weird circumstances that they've got a lot of
43:20
things that they try to claim or very biblical that are extra biblical there and outside of the
43:24
Bible. But it was just very nice to see Jeff Durban and James White be very polite with this Kweku
43:31
guy, this Mormon apologist. But then towards the end, even Jeff Durban was like, all right, dude,
43:35
this, this is not going to happen. Like we're, we're not going to allow you to, he was basically
43:39
trying to, you know, give his apologetic for Mormonism. And they basically called him on. It's like,
43:45
hey, you can't come into a Christian episode and basically spew that nonsense. But very,
43:49
very good debate. And the last one here for this one is episode number 258, which is called restraining
43:54
orders and scary American theology. And this was from October 27 of this year. And so this was a
44:00
state of theology review. You guys heard me do that on episode 49 of this podcast a few weeks back.
44:05
But basically he and his crew went through the state of theology and talked about the different
44:09
things that would be very, very damning and damaging for people in the church going forward. So
44:14
very intense podcast. But I think it's incredibly enjoyable. I think you guys would like it. So
44:20
check out apology radio. All right, guys, next up is unbelievable with Justin Briarley. And so
44:25
this is one that I picked up here kind of late in the year. Justin Briarley is a radio show host
44:31
over in the United Kingdom. But basically the whole context of what he puts together is he has
44:37
these very, very cordial debates between people that disagree so vehemently. And that's the crazy
44:44
thing about this podcast is he's always pitting usually a theist versus an atheist or, you know,
44:49
a Muslim versus a Christian or, you know, a pastor who's gay and a pastor, or a pastor who's gay
44:56
and celibate and a pastor who's gay, not tell, but you know, stuff like that. But everything's
45:01
super cordial, like almost awkwardly cordial. And so you can kind of tell this Justin Briarley
45:06
guy who's basically the moderator. This is a Christian. This is a very straightforward biblical
45:10
Christian. But he doesn't like, you know, play favorites. He lets both people get their sides in.
45:15
And he'll basically call balls and strikes when things aren't going well. But there are three
45:19
episodes that I think would kind of encapsulate what type of content they put out there. And
45:23
they're just very, very interesting. The first one is called can Islam overcome sexism and violence
45:28
with Ed Hussein and Beth Grove. This is from August 31st of this year. And so obviously the title
45:34
basically puts it in there and I kind of gave you the context through which they put this podcast
45:38
together. The next one is called is Jesus, the Jewish Messiah. And this is Michael Brown versus
45:43
Jonathan romaine. That's from October 12th of this year. And the last one is Andy Bannister
45:48
versus Pete Singer. Do we need God to be good? And that's from November 2nd of this year. So again,
45:53
guys, this is one that I just picked up here recently, but really, really solid podcasts. I
45:58
think their episodes come out. It's once a week every Friday. And just unbelievably informative
46:03
conversations. And you're getting people from such different walks of life. This is not an
46:08
echo chamber podcast. There's no declared winner, but it is very, very interesting.
46:12
All right, guys, the next one is RZIM just thinking broadcast. And so for those of you familiar with
46:18
it, RZIM is Ravi Zacharias International Ministry. So Ravi Zacharias is a is an international theologian
46:24
and apologist and a big time writer. But the thing that I like about these just thinking
46:30
broadcast is there's put out Monday through Friday and they're just snippets. So what they'll do
46:34
is they'll take like an entire sermon that he delivered and cut it into four or five parts.
46:38
Or they'll do the Q&A section where there was a big long Q&A with him and some of his other
46:43
partners with RZIM. But they'll basically put them all in, you know, these little
46:47
sound bitey type things. They give you the full answer that Ravi gives or anyone as team gives.
46:54
But you're only getting maybe 10 or 15 minutes. And so these are very, very digestible things.
46:59
But the content is so big, like so unbelievably big. And so I'm going to give you a couple of
47:05
different things that we like this year, a few different of the episodes that we'd like to draw
47:10
you to. So the first one is called Yale University Q&A part five. And this is from the what the day
47:17
okay, it was July six of this year. And so the big question here was whether the resurrection of
47:21
Jesus is a historical fact. The next one is God's plan for marriage part three and God's plan for
47:27
marriage part four. And this is from July 18th and 19th of this year. So basically, he was talking
47:33
a lot about love and mercy versus judgment or sorry, this one was basically talking about marriage,
47:39
not love and mercy versus judgment, but it was just basically a very good look at how marriage
47:44
to look within the Christian context. So there are four parts to that one. But the last two were
47:48
very, very impactful. The next one is called Waterloo University Q&A part six. This is from
47:53
November 12th of this year, but that one really got into religion versus government and the how
47:58
the issues that you might have therein. The next one is universe University of Utah Q&A part one.
48:03
And that is from November 13th of this year. And so this is talking about basically personal
48:07
morals versus a code of ethics. The next one is the European Missions Conference Q&A part three.
48:12
That is from November 21st of this year. And this was talking about the differences between
48:16
and how the these two coalesce but basically post modernism and Christianity. And the last one I
48:22
wanted to draw your attention to is the University of Florida Q&A part three. That's from November 27th
48:28
of this year where it talks about abortion. So the thing about Ravi guys, as I know, some people
48:31
don't really like his style because he's very grandiose and very, very showy, not in a necessarily
48:38
bad way, but he's not like the cool dude like he's an old Indian guy. And so he's just, he wears
48:42
a suit and he's got his, you know, crazy, crazy white hair. But the dude is so sharp.
48:47
He's so unbelievably well read. And I've been able to work a lot of the things that Ravi has said
48:52
and taught me into conversations with atheists and conversations with people that don't necessarily
48:57
have a gospel centered worldview. So that is a very good one for you guys to pick up as well.
49:02
The next one is the village church sermons. And so guys, you know it by now, I say it every week.
49:07
And it's kind of a joke now. I talk about Matt Chandler every freaking week. And so I'm gonna
49:12
talk about him again. So the village church is down in Dallas. And this is the podcast that is
49:16
basically the Sunday sermons. Now, as I've told y'all before, the village has kind of split into
49:21
basically five or six autonomous churches or they're at least working that direction. So it's not
49:26
just Matt Chandler sermons, but every Sunday they may post five or six podcasts or the Monday
49:32
after the Sunday, they'll post these five or six podcasts. But I just basically go to the ones
49:36
that that are Matt Chandler's not that I'm not interested in what those other guys have to say.
49:40
But I'm not really interested in what those other guys have to say. I want to hear Matt Chandler.
49:44
And so three of the podcasts, I feel like you could listen to every single one of them
49:48
from this year to be honest with you. But the three I wanted to draw your attention to are
49:51
as follows. And that is manhood restored, which was posted on February 4th of this year,
49:57
the entry and death of Jesus posted on March 25th of this year and an inadequate faith posted on
50:04
October 14th of this year. So again, like I say all the time, you can listen to all of his sermons,
50:08
but those are the three that I would draw you to for this year. And I would definitely subscribe
50:12
to that podcast. The next one is crossings community church, Terry fakes audio and fakes is
50:17
f-e-i-x f-e-i-x. But this is a guy that teaches at a local church here in Oklahoma City called
50:24
Crossings Community Church, a gigantic church. And to be honest with you, I know this might make
50:29
some of the people that go to the church angry. Terry fakes should be the lead teaching pastor
50:32
there. There's another pastor there that's kind of the guy that started the church and started the
50:35
school. But the dude, he sucks. He's so boring. He's like the most Mr. Rogers, a presenter of
50:42
that I've ever heard my entire life. But he's about the same age as Terry fakes. And so Terry is kind
50:47
of given the subservient role of kind of preaching from time to time and doing some other things,
50:52
but incredibly adept guy. And the one episode I want to draw you to it's actually basically to
50:57
draw you to to an entire series. But it's called Revelation session 10 chapters 21 through 22,
51:03
New Heaven and New Earth. And this was from March 15th. Earlier this year, he did a 10 session,
51:09
basically Wednesday night kind of Bible class session on Revelation. And it was unbelievably
51:15
in depth and amazing. So Terry has a very good style of very good cadence, not the funniest
51:21
presenter, not that he's not going to wow you and blow your skirt up. But it's just solid, solid
51:24
information. And you can tell it's well researched. So I would definitely check out the revelation
51:29
series from earlier this year. And make sure that you subscribe to that one. The next one is North
51:34
Point Community Church. So again, that is Andy Stanley's normal sermon. So this is not the 30
51:39
minute versions. These are the elongated versions. What I will say is this year, he's got kind of a
51:43
secondary guy that that talks from time and time and a clay named clay Scroggins. So clay's okay.
51:50
But I don't think he's anywhere near Andy Stanley, but you can tell they're kind of grooming clay
51:55
to either take off and do his own church or maybe take over for Andy when he decides he wants to
51:59
retire. But the two sermons I want to draw your attention to one is called 90 part 11. So that's
52:04
90 and I N E T Y part 11. The one commandments and that is from March 18th of this year. And the
52:10
next one is called reclaiming irresistible. And that's from September 30th of this year. And so 90
52:16
that I feel like just like in the last one that we talked about, you should listen to all of those.
52:19
And I think that was an 11 or 12 part series, but that one was especially awesome. And the last one
52:24
is reclaiming irresistible. He's basically talking about how in this kind of post modern
52:29
or this post Christian era that we're living in, that Christianity is not as irresistible as it
52:36
should be. And how in the early Christian sectors like Christianity was irresistible and how the
52:40
message should be irresistible. The message of Jesus should be irresistible. And so again,
52:45
this is not your deep theological pastor. But I don't think he's your pup piece pastor either.
52:50
Andy Stanley, I think is a very, very solid pastor. He's not without his warts. And he's not without
52:54
his his issues. But I think his sermons are certainly worth taking in on a weekly basis.
53:00
All right, guys, the next podcast is one that I know a lot of you guys listen to, which is the Joe
53:04
Rogan experience. So the Joe Rogan experience, if it's not number one, it's in the top three
53:08
biggest podcasts on the planet. So Joe Rogan is one of the earliest podcasters that we've seen.
53:14
Joe Rogan obviously is a stand up comedian. He's had a career in music or not music. Sorry,
53:19
he's had a career in television. He did. What was that show? He did like some TV show. I can't
53:26
remember. Dang it. I know you guys are like screaming at the screen, right? A fear factor.
53:31
Good grief. Yeah, he did like a bunch of episodes of fear factors. So that was a really cool one.
53:36
He's the veteran voice of the UFC. He's basically been with the UFC since it was like UFC 10 or
53:41
something like that. And so the thing about his podcast is he brings on so many different kinds
53:46
of people. Like he just brings on people that he feels like would be interesting to talk to.
53:51
So he talks to everybody from some, you know, chemistry professor at a local community college,
53:58
all the way up to Elon Musk. I mean, I think that may have been the biggest podcast episode of his
54:02
entire podcast career was with Elon Musk. And you know, he obviously did a lot of things on that
54:08
podcast that have affected Tesla moving forward. But just an incredibly interesting podcast.
54:13
For those of you, not every episode, I would just be straight up with you guys. Again,
54:17
Joe Rogan, he's someone who thinks he believes fully in evolution. This is a guy who believes in
54:22
all kinds of drugs and that pretty much all drugs should be legalized. He will smoke pot right there.
54:27
During the podcast and things like that. So I'm not telling you that everything Joe
54:31
Rogan stands for or would say is is very appropriate by any means. But he still has
54:36
unbelievably interesting guys on his podcast. It's certainly worth a listen. So I'll take you
54:40
through some episodes from this year that I think you guys should take in. So the first one is the
54:44
JRE MMA show number 11 with John Donahur. And so this is from January 15th of this year. And so
54:51
John Donahur is one of the OGs of mixed martial arts in specifically Jiu Jitsu. And he's just a
54:58
mastermind type of guy. And we'll talk more a little bit about this episode a little bit later
55:02
in the podcast. So the next one is episode number 1109 with Matthew Walker. This was in April 25th
55:10
of this year. This is a guy who has spent most of his career studying sleep. And it was a mind-blowing
55:17
podcast. And I mean, it blew. So there were so many times during the podcast where Joe Rogan was
55:21
just like, whoa, are you serious? Did this stuff actually happens? And so very, very interesting
55:27
podcast. You get a lot of tidbits and it's going to make you want to get your sleep schedule on
55:31
track. So that one's a great one. The next one is JRE MMA show number 28 with George St. Pierre.
55:37
This was from May 23rd of this year. Guys, again, if you go back to one of my Q&A podcasts, I was
55:41
asked who I felt like the greatest MMA fighter of all time was. And you know, all things considered,
55:46
I said GSP. And so here they are talking for three hours, just about his training and his upbringing
55:52
and some of his philosophy. And it ties in with the next episode that I'm going to tell you about,
55:55
which is the JRE MMA show number 32 with Farah Sahabi. And that is from June 19th of this year.
56:01
And so the thing is, is John Donahrew I talked about earlier. He is George St. Pierre's main
56:06
grappling coach. And then you have Farah Sahabi, who is George St. Pierre's just head coach. And
56:11
to hear these three guys talk about mixed martial arts, what, you know, the untrained I would look
56:17
into and be like, Oh, it's just a bunch of brutes rubbing all over each other and bleeding and all
56:21
that nonsense. These guys are unbelievably smart. And the fact that George St. Pierre has those two
56:27
guys, in addition to some other geniuses in his corner, it's absolutely astounding. Those were
56:31
incredibly, incredibly interesting episodes. The next one is episode 1139 with Jordan Peterson.
56:37
And so it's just basically him and Joe Rogan talking. And this was back from July 2nd. Anytime
56:42
Jordan Peterson is only Joe Rogan, you got to listen to it. All right, the next one is 1158 with Chuck
56:47
Polaniak. I'm pretty sure that you say his last name, but this is from August 22nd of this year.
56:52
So Chuck Polaniak is the author of Fight Club and Choke and Invisible Monsters. And so just an
56:58
absolutely kind of weird, crazy, interesting guy. But the reason why one to draw your attention to
57:04
this one is because it was very interesting how he conducted the interview or not really an interview.
57:10
It's just two guys talking, but just seeing how the stories went back and forth were incredibly
57:15
interesting. The next one was the JRE MMA show number 42 with Teddy Atlas. And so this is from
57:20
September 24th of this year. So guys, Teddy Atlas is one of the OGs, one of the biggest names in
57:25
boxing. And so just hearing them talk for three hours about the state of boxing and kind of where
57:31
it wasn't where it is now was very, very interesting. The next one was episode 1176 with Tom Daugustino
57:36
and Lane Norton. And that is from the 28th of October of this year. This one was all about
57:41
nutrition. So I think this podcast was like four hours long or something like that, but they're
57:45
basically going into the weeds about everything nutrition. Okay. Then if we had episode 1200 with
57:51
Ross Edgley, and this is from November 12th of this year. So this is a guy who was the first person
57:56
to swim around Great Britain. Very interesting. I mean, just hearing the things that this guy
58:02
went through and he's just basically doing it with a smile on his phone on his face.
58:05
Unbelievable podcast. Definitely check that one out. Then episode 1205 with Jake the Snake Roberts
58:11
and Tony Hinchcliffe. And this is from November 20th. And so Tony Hinchcliffe is a comedian who
58:15
doesn't really have a lot to do with this podcast. But it's basically, you know, a guy that we all
58:19
grew up with. If you watch wrestling, Jake the Snake Roberts talking about his, his addiction,
58:23
I think he was on heroin and alcohol and all these different things and the recovery that he's made.
58:27
But the stories are just hilarious because he given you behind the scenes stories about
58:31
about macho man and about all these guys that he used to hit the road with. So very, very interesting.
58:35
Then we have episode 1208 with Jordan Peterson. So again, it's another episode with Joe Rogan and
58:40
Jordan Peterson in the same room. So that's from the 29th of November of this year. And the last one
58:44
is 1212, which is with David Goggins. And so that was from the 5th of December of this year.
58:51
So that's that ultra marathoner guy that also used to be a Navy SEAL who used to be like 400 pounds
58:56
and then lost all the weight in like a day or something like that. I'm being ridiculous, but he
59:01
lost and I'm like 100 pounds in like three months just so he could do some some military training and
59:06
screening and stuff like that. And so the thing is guys, as you can tell from the list that I just
59:10
read, Joe Rogan has all kinds of people on his podcast. I mean, I typically skip when he has other
59:15
comedians on his podcast because it's just basically three hours of nothing. But he just has so many
59:20
interesting people on his podcast. And there's been very few times where I've gotten 20 30 minutes
59:24
into a podcast and turned it off or went on to the next one. So very, very good one there.
59:28
The next one is the Ben Shapiro show. So for those of you that don't know Ben Shapiro is a
59:33
conservative political commentator. So he does a Monday through Friday show. And this is in concert
59:40
with his radio show, which next year is going to be three hours long. That's not going to be the
59:43
podcast, but his syndicated radio show is going to be spread out throughout the United States and
59:48
it's going to be three hours long. But again, I love Ben Shapiro, even if you're not on the
59:52
conservative side of the aisle, if you're more centrist or more on the left, this guy calls balls
59:56
and strikes and he's incredibly incredibly fair. And so I really like listening to what he has to
1:00:00
say. So I'm just going to run real quick through some of the episodes I think you guys would find
1:00:03
interesting. So episode 476, it's called another horrific shooting. And this is from the 15th of
1:00:10
February of this year. This was after the school shooting down in Florida. And I just really liked
1:00:15
how we handled that situation being a pro second amendment pro gun individual, but also in the
1:00:20
face of what we saw with those kids. Then there's going to be several more that I'm going to talk
1:00:24
about here that are the Sunday special. And so he does a once a week show on Sundays that is
1:00:29
basically him having a one on one conversation with a very recognizable individual. And those
1:00:33
are very, very entertaining. So the first one is the very first Sunday special episode, which
1:00:37
was with Jordan Peterson. And this was from the the sixth of May of this year. So again,
1:00:41
with all these intellectual dark web individuals, basically anytime those guys got in a room to
1:00:46
discuss anything, I'm going to put it on the list, which leads me to the next episode,
1:00:50
which is Sunday special episode four, which was with Joe Rogan. So this is Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro
1:00:54
sitting and having a chat. And that's from June 3rd of this year. The next one is called Daily Wire
1:00:58
backstage celebrates Independence Day with Jordan Peterson. So that's from July 2nd of this year.
1:01:04
Then we have Sunday special episode 12 with Mike Rowe. So Mike Rowe was the dirty, dirty jobs guy.
1:01:09
He's got a podcast we're going to talk about here in just a second, but just an unbelievable
1:01:13
dedication to to the working class is Mike Rowe, just an unbelievably great conversation to listen
1:01:20
to. And that was from July 29th of this year. Then we have episode 603 on evil. And this is from
1:01:25
October or sorry, August 15th of this year. So that was a very impactful episode. The next
1:01:30
several are from the Sunday special. So Sunday special episode 16 with Clay Travis from August 26th.
1:01:35
So Clay Travis is a kind of controversial sports commentator. So getting to hear him talk about
1:01:40
the current state of kind of wokeness within sports was very, very interesting to hear.
1:01:44
The next is Sunday special episode number 17 with Edward Fesser. And so this is from October 2nd.
1:01:50
And so Edward Fesser is a guy who's basically, I think he wrote five proofs for the existence of
1:01:54
God. It's on our book list for next year that we want to read. I think it was on there last year
1:01:58
as well. Oh yeah, that's one book that's they don't have it on ebook. So you got to buy the
1:02:02
actual copy. So I'll be able to do that. So we sat down with that guy. And then one of my favorite
1:02:06
episodes of the year, which was Sunday special episode 23 with Jocko Willink. And so anytime Jocko
1:02:11
is with any of these other guys as well, you got to take that down. But that's from October 14th
1:02:16
of this year. And then episode 670, which is called Russian roulette. And that's from 1130
1:02:21
of 18. So November 30th. And the last one is Sunday special episode 29 with Pastor John MacArthur.
1:02:26
And that is from the 2nd of December of this year. And so that one is just interesting getting to see
1:02:33
such a great Christian pastor across from Ben Shapiro, who is an Orthodox Jew and kind of
1:02:39
hearing the conversation how they had going back and forth with one another. That was very, very
1:02:43
interesting. Our guys next show we're going to talk about is the Matt Walsh show. So Matt Walsh
1:02:48
and Ben Shapiro, they both work at the same place. They work at the Daily Wire. Matt Walsh,
1:02:52
his opinions are a little bit more straightforward, though. He doesn't really mince words and he just
1:02:58
offends just about everybody. And so I really liked that about him. Like he will take that unpopular
1:03:03
opinion and he will just ram it straight up your butt like he does not care one way or another. So
1:03:08
there's four episodes of his podcast because I really just started listening to his within the
1:03:11
last few months that I felt like we're interesting. So the first one is episode number 127. And that
1:03:16
is the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is overwhelming. And that is from the 19th of
1:03:21
October of this year. Then we have episode 140 called heroic masculinity. And that's from November
1:03:27
9th of this year. So this is a guy that he does not really take kindly to people attacking male,
1:03:33
maleness or masculinity in any way. So he just basically comes straight after it.
1:03:38
The next episode is episode 147. We treat boyhood like it's a mental disorder. This is from the 20th
1:03:45
of November of this year. Guys, this was a really interesting episode. I know I'm using the word
1:03:49
interesting, like every five seconds, but all these are really, really interesting. But he
1:03:53
basically was talking about how he's got a young boy and how people would basically like to tell
1:03:57
him that his boy has some sort of disorder, because he's a little boy. And he talks about how it's
1:04:03
interesting that most of the kids that are diagnosed with ADD are boys. And people don't take into
1:04:08
account that maybe it's just because they're ambunctious humans or something like that. So
1:04:11
very interesting episode. And the last one is episode 151, a mother forces son to be transgender.
1:04:17
Is it legal? This is talking about that couple down in Texas, where the when the kids with dad,
1:04:22
the kid just wants to be a kid. It's a little boy. He just wants to run around and wear jeans
1:04:26
and play play sports. But when he's with mom, he wears a dress and he's called Luna, right?
1:04:31
And the mom's a pediatrician and she's suing the dad, basically saying he's abusing the child
1:04:36
by not allowing him to express his gender and whatever way he wants. And this is from
1:04:42
November 28 of this year. But again, the Matt Wall show, this guy is very straightforward.
1:04:47
He comes right at these issues and I really like his tone and tenor and all the episodes are pretty
1:04:50
short about 2025 minutes. All right, guys, the next one is one of our favorite podcasts to listen to.
1:04:56
And that is the Jocko podcast. And so Jocko Willink, retired Navy Seal, author of extreme ownership and
1:05:02
author of the follow up book, the dichotomy of leadership, he's got some kids books out there,
1:05:06
the way of the warrior kid and different things like that, super intense guy, super intense podcast.
1:05:12
So this is listened to by a lot of business people and leadership people. But it's very
1:05:17
ardently militaristic. A lot of the podcast materials are dealing with things that happened
1:05:22
in the military. But very, very interesting podcast. I especially love his Q&A episodes.
1:05:26
But I'm going to go ahead and give you some to listen to from this year that I think would
1:05:28
be interesting to you. The first is episode 115 into the fire and beyond the call of duty with
1:05:34
Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. And that is from February 28 of this year. So you pretty much
1:05:39
get it there. He has Dakota Meyer in his studio for two or three hours. And they're just talking
1:05:43
about basically the worst day of his life, which was the day here in the Medal of Honor. You know
1:05:46
what I mean? So the next one, actually, I'll tell you these three in order. So episodes 121,
1:05:51
122 and 123 are all together. Those are three that you should all listen to. They were all
1:05:56
released actually at the same time. So the first one, 121 is Marine, the life of Chesty Puller by
1:06:01
Burke Davis. And that is from April 18 of this year. The next one is fortunate son by Lewis Puller,
1:06:08
Jr. So that is Chesty Puller, son. That was the next episode. And that was also released on the
1:06:12
18th of April. And the last one is a fight through darkness with Marine Corporal Jack Snick. And so
1:06:18
all three of those are attached to one another. And I don't really want to give you any more
1:06:23
information. But you've really got to listen to those three. I'm going to draw you to a lot of
1:06:28
these episodes, guys. But if you're going to listen to the Jocko podcast, start with 121,
1:06:32
122, 123, super, super legit. Next episode is Memorial Day 2018. Remember me, this is from May 27 of
1:06:40
this year. It's a very short one, but he's basically reading a poem. It's absolutely powerful and
1:06:44
fantastic. Next one, episode 133, face history. So you can learn from it, the horrors of unit 731.
1:06:51
So this is talking about unit 731 in Japan, that was basically doing all this human experimentation
1:06:56
during the World Wars. This is from July 11 of this year, guys, incredibly graphic, incredibly
1:07:01
brutal. If you think people are naturally good and naturally nice, you need to listen to this
1:07:05
episode. Next one is episode 139. And it's called whatever darkness you face, start walking. This
1:07:11
is about the baton death march. And it's excerpts from a thing called a soldier's journal by James
1:07:17
Bolich. And that is from April 20, or sorry, August 22 of this year. The next one is episode 148.
1:07:23
When life laughs at you in crappy situations, stand up and don't let it values of death by Bill
1:07:29
Richardson. So obviously going into the book Valleys of Death. And that's from October 24 of this year.
1:07:34
And the last one that I thought would be of interest to you guys is surprise, surprise episode 155
1:07:37
with Jordan Peterson. So Jordan Peterson sneaking on the list again. And it's Jordan Peterson and
1:07:42
Jaco versus evil. Cannibal Island and the Gulag. So they're talking about the Gulag archipelago a
1:07:47
little bit. They're also talking about the guy that lost his life, the guy that was trying to
1:07:51
basically save the people on that island. And that is from December 12 of this year. So again,
1:07:56
guys cannot suggest Jaco podcasts to you enough. You should definitely take that one in. Next podcast
1:08:01
is the art of manliness podcast. So a lot of you guys are familiar with that. It's actually out
1:08:05
of Tulsa, Oklahoma. So shout out to Oklahoma. And this is a guy that has on a lot of different
1:08:10
people on his podcast. But it's typically people that have written a book. He has read the book.
1:08:14
And now he is interviewing them about their book. So that is typically how this goes.
1:08:18
And most of the things are fairly interesting. There's some episodes are just kind of math.
1:08:22
They're super bland. But and the guy that hosts the podcast doesn't have an incredible
1:08:27
interviewing voice. He's not one of those powerful interviewers. But he basically lets his guest talk
1:08:32
and do their thing, which is which I can appreciate. So the episodes I want to draw your attention to
1:08:36
are episode number three 77 12 rules for life with Jordan Peterson. So there he is again,
1:08:41
Jordan Peterson showing up. That's from February 6 of this year. And they go into the book 12
1:08:46
rules for life. The next one is episode 405, the power of team captains. And that's from March
1:08:52
15 of this year. So this was an interview with Sam Walker, who wrote the book, the captain class,
1:08:56
the hidden force that creates the world's greatest teams. And so basically getting if you're a sports
1:09:01
guy, even if you're just kind of a business guy, very interesting episode about how captains can
1:09:07
affect things in a certain way and how captains typically aren't the most talented person on the
1:09:11
team. Next episode was episode 440, the three great untruths that are setting up a generation
1:09:16
for failure. And this is from November 12 of this year. And the cool thing about this one is it's
1:09:21
an interview with Greg Lukanoff. I think that's I say his name. But it's a book that he wrote that
1:09:25
is on our list for next year to read. But it's the coddling of the American mind how good intentions
1:09:30
and bad ideas are setting up a generation for failure. So talk about that on last week's episode.
1:09:35
But basically talking about how we're treating the current generation and how that's going to
1:09:39
basically ripple out in a negative way in the future. Really, really cool episode. The next one
1:09:44
is episode 446. And it's how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will make you a better man. This was an interview
1:09:50
with Hinter Gracie. He's the head instructor of Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy. And you guys have heard
1:09:54
me talk about this enough, right? But I'm going to keep talking about it. You guys need to be doing
1:09:57
Jiu Jitsu. Almost every single one of you guys listening to this, you have a local Jiu Jitsu school.
1:10:02
And even even not, you basically have Jiu Jitsu schools online. I mean, Autos does it. Gracie
1:10:06
Jiu Jitsu does it. You can get a group of guys together and get a mat and put it out in the garage
1:10:11
and learn Jiu Jitsu. I mean, learn how to fight. Don't do all this karate Akido nonsense that will
1:10:16
never come into, come into, you know, and you won't need it. Like it's not going to work for you. Like
1:10:22
you learn a real fighting style like Jiu Jitsu. And Hinter Gracie gives you a lot of great, great
1:10:26
reasons to that you should do that and how it's going to make you a better man. The next episode is
1:10:30
449, which is called faster and cheaper alternatives to college. And this is from the 15th of October
1:10:36
of this year. This was an interview with Ryan Craig. And he's the managing director of university
1:10:40
ventures. Now going to be honest, this is a subject matter that I've been very, very interested in
1:10:43
over the last several years, a guy with no kids. That's not about to put his kids into college.
1:10:48
I'm still interested to hear about where higher education is going, because almost everyone you
1:10:52
know, probably including you guy, you're working in a job that you didn't need your degree for.
1:10:56
I mean, how many of us are working in jobs that we didn't need that degree for? I mean, for every
1:11:01
doctor, lawyer and dentist, we have so many people that have these general degrees or liberal arts
1:11:05
degrees, then they're doing something completely outside of what they're trained for. And so I'm
1:11:09
just wondering why are people going into six figure debt to get a degree that's essentially
1:11:14
worthless? Like, why didn't they just become an apprentice at a job when they were 18? I mean,
1:11:18
people look down on these vortex schools, we have plumbers and and welders making three,
1:11:23
four hundred thousand dollars a year and employing a dozen other people, right? And so it was a very
1:11:29
cool podcast to listen to to kind of hear another person's perspective, because this is something
1:11:32
I'm definitely going to keep my my eyes on over the next couple of decades. And the last one from
1:11:36
this podcast is episode number four, fifty six myths about kids and sports. And this is from the
1:11:41
seventh of November of this year. And this was an interview with a guy named Leonard Zakowski.
1:11:46
And I think it's how you say the last name and Daniel Peterson. And these guys wrote the playmakers
1:11:50
advantage. And so for those of you out there with kids, especially kids are young that are
1:11:55
getting into sports, there are so many myths that we just believe that we just think are the truth
1:11:59
in every way possible. And this book spells out from a scientific perspective and a psychological
1:12:04
perspective why a lot of those things are completely bunk. All right, guys, the next one that we're
1:12:08
going to talk about is the Rubin report. So this is Dave Rubin. This is a guy that's kind of a
1:12:13
media personality guy, but he's kind of known now as kind of being a a classical liberal. He has the
1:12:19
most played episode or video through PragerU. It's why he left the left. So this is a guy who used to
1:12:25
be very, very liberal, but now he considers himself to be a classical liberal, maybe more of a
1:12:29
centrist, maybe even a little bit more of a conservative, but this is, you know, a married gay man that is
1:12:34
making a lot of arguments that seem to be very, very conservative in nature. He's also stand up
1:12:38
comedian. He's done a lot of things, but he's traveled the world basically for the last year being the
1:12:42
opening act for Jordan Peterson when Jordan Peterson's been doing all of his speaking tours across the
1:12:48
United States and across Europe. But the two episodes from this year that I think were important for
1:12:53
you guys to listen to are they're going to have something very, very familiar to you. So the first
1:12:58
one is from the 31st of January of this year is Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro, frontline of free
1:13:03
speech. So this is Dave Rubin in the middle of Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro and they're basically
1:13:07
talking about free speech. And then he had them both also on an episode at the end of the year,
1:13:12
this was on the 30th of November. And it's called Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro religion,
1:13:16
trans activism and censorship. And this was actually a live thing that they did with a live
1:13:20
audience. And so it was cool to kind of hear them all react interact. And Dave Rubin does a really,
1:13:25
really good job of letting these big brain people like Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro,
1:13:29
get after and say what they need to say and then move on with his day. But why not just listen to
1:13:33
actually just within the last couple of days was a very interesting conversation that he had with
1:13:38
in the name of the episode is a bishop and a rabbi discuss religion, the enlightenment and
1:13:43
finding meaning. And that's from December 19 of this year. And so this was a conversation between
1:13:47
Bishop Robert Barron and Rabbi Dave Wulp. I think it's W L P E Wulp. And just hearing these two
1:13:53
different guys coming from very different perspectives, obviously one Catholic and one Jewish talk about
1:13:58
these things that are so integral to life and everything in it. It was just again, a very interesting
1:14:02
episode. And Rubin really does a great job of letting these guys talk. Next podcast I want to
1:14:07
draw your attention to is the Stephen Mansfield podcast and also Stephen Mansfield's other podcast,
1:14:12
the great man dot TV podcast. So Stephen Mansfield is a culture commentator. He does a lot of
1:14:19
political commentating. He helps out CEOs. He used to be a pastor, very, very interesting guy. I can
1:14:25
actually call him a personal friend of mine. But he's got these two podcasts. One is the Stephen
1:14:29
Mansfield podcast, which is his personal one. And the one episode I would draw you to hear is one
1:14:34
from November 12 of this year. And it's called the brilliance of sass. And this was talking about
1:14:38
bin sass from Nebraska, the Senator sass. And it was his comments in front of the congressional
1:14:43
committee hearing. And so the Stephen Mansfield podcast, he'll talk about politics, he'll talk about
1:14:48
things kind of all over the place. But he launched something this year called the great man dot TV
1:14:52
podcast. And so great man dot TV is a website. And he's basically putting his money to wear his mouth
1:14:58
as when it comes to making sure that the next generation of men is better than the last one.
1:15:02
And that we can continue to mentor our boys and do a good job with them. And so the great man TV
1:15:08
podcast and the and the website are ways that allow him to be able to do that and get that message
1:15:13
out there. And so there were four podcasts from that episode or four episodes from that podcast
1:15:19
that I wanted to draw your attention to. The first one's called men and boredom. And that is from
1:15:24
March 13 of this year. And that's just basically talking about how dangerous men can be when they
1:15:28
are bored when they don't have a mission. The next one is called modular mentoring. That's from
1:15:32
June 5 of this year. Modular mentoring is essentially we're all looking for that one sage individual
1:15:37
that long white bearded person that knows everything about business and everything about marriage
1:15:42
and everything about the Bible and everything about money and that we're just going to have that
1:15:46
one person that's going to be our mentor. But this episode is basically talking about how you need
1:15:50
modular mentors. You need mentors in those different areas and it might be four different people,
1:15:54
right? The next one is called a word to churches. And this is from July 24 of this year. But it's
1:15:59
just basically talking about men's ministry and why most churches don't focus on that and why they
1:16:05
should. And the last one is purpose with special guests Michael Fletcher. And that's from the sixth
1:16:09
of November of this year. And so Michael Fletcher is the lead pastor of Man of Church in Fayetteville,
1:16:14
North Carolina. And so he's who Stephen Mansfield believes to be one of the best, if not the best
1:16:19
pastor in the country for for men's ministry. And so I've actually talked with Michael Fletcher on
1:16:25
the phone before about men's ministry. And he specifically said he's like, look, we don't have
1:16:29
a men's ministry at our church. He's just like, I create an environment that is incredibly attractive
1:16:33
for men. Men love being at our church. The men in our church are tough. The men in our church,
1:16:38
you know, love their wives in a big way we take care of and protect our families. Right. So it was a
1:16:43
really, really interesting conversation. But again, the Stephen Mansfield podcast and the great man
1:16:47
podcast, those are once a weekers. And so those are like 10 or 15 minute long episodes that you can
1:16:52
take in pretty easily. So I would definitely pick those two up. The next one I want to tell you
1:16:56
about is the Jordan B. Peterson podcast. Obviously you've talked about Jordan Peterson a lot. But his
1:17:01
podcast is very interesting because he'll either do video or not video, he'll do audio of some of
1:17:06
the interviews he's done recently, or he'll give you audio from a debate that he's done,
1:17:11
or he'll just do Q and A. And so the episodes I want to draw your attention to are episode 38,
1:17:16
Kathy Newman interview and analysis. And this is from January 29. So obviously a lot of people,
1:17:22
and this couldn't have been better for Jordan Peterson, because it was right before his book
1:17:25
12 rules for life came out. But Kathy Newman interviewed him over in the United Kingdom,
1:17:30
and she tried to get him with with a bunch of gotcha questions. And he just smoked her.
1:17:34
He just schooled her and it was so embarrassing for her. And then they tried to make her a victim
1:17:38
and was like, I know you just got smashed and you tried to smash somebody else, you know,
1:17:41
deal with it. But he basically goes to that interview and he he analyzes it. He analyzes
1:17:46
how he held him his ground and things he could have done better and things she could have done
1:17:50
better. So that was a really, really cool thing to show how he looked at that. The next episode
1:17:55
is episode number 42, March 2018 Q and A. And that is from March 19 of this year. So
1:18:02
I'm not even going to go into any detail, but anytime he does a Q and A podcast,
1:18:05
he gets so deep into these questions. And it's just really cool to see him do that.
1:18:09
Episode number 52, Monk debate, political correctness from June 11 of this year.
1:18:13
So they had this big monk debate that it was hours and hours and hours long. And so this was a,
1:18:19
a very truncated version, but they were basically talking about debating political correctness. But
1:18:24
it just turned into a little bit of a [inaudible] contest. And there wasn't a whole lot of discussion
1:18:28
about political correctness. But it was really cool seeing how he was able to carry himself
1:18:33
and comport himself in that debate. The next one is episode 53, Susan Blackmore. Do we need
1:18:38
God to make sense of life? And that's from June 28 of this year. And so a little bit of a debate
1:18:42
with her. Then episode number 54, Aspen ideas festival from the barricades of the culture wars.
1:18:48
And that's from July 6 of this year, another Q and A type of deal. And then episode 57, Dr. Oz,
1:18:53
Jordan, Jordan Peterson's rules to live by. And that's an interview that he did with Dr. Oz in a
1:18:58
television interview type setting from the 22nd of October of this year. And so again,
1:19:04
he doesn't post all the time, you know, he'll go where he's posting, you know, once a week for a
1:19:07
while, and then he'll go maybe a month without posting something. But that's a good one that
1:19:11
you should take in. And guys, the last podcast that I'll draw your attention to, we're making our
1:19:15
way to it is called the way I heard it with Mike wrote. So as we talked about Mike wrote 30 jobs
1:19:20
guy, maybe one of the more unique podcasts that you get, because he it's basically a once a weaker,
1:19:26
but these are seven, eight, nine minute long episodes. And they're stories. And the cool thing
1:19:32
about the the stories that he tells is that you don't really know exactly who he's talking about
1:19:37
usually until the very last line of the story. And then he'll just say, anyway, that's the way I
1:19:42
heard it. And he's obviously got that great radio voice that great voice over voice. But
1:19:47
so many of the episodes, you kind of figure out who it is about three quarters of the way through.
1:19:52
But then there's others were like, Holy cow, I did not know that's who he was talking about.
1:19:56
But you just can't help but be entrenched in the story and you feel like you're there. And so he
1:20:01
does an amazing job of fantastic storyteller. The two that I want to draw your attention to
1:20:06
from this year, they're all great. But one was released on the sixth of March. And that's called
1:20:10
as long as it's legal. And the other one was released released on the 16th of October, it's
1:20:15
called a manly man, a gold medal, and a really big C. So fantastic episodes, you should listen
1:20:21
really to all of them because it doesn't take you a whole lot of time. And hope that was helpful
1:20:25
for you. So guys, we've made it. We're we're well into this podcast by now. Thank y'all so much for
1:20:31
sticking with me up to this point. Again, I really, really like podcasts. I think it's something that
1:20:35
all of you guys should do more of unless you're doing it like I am right now, which is probably a
1:20:39
little bit too much. But I do want to leave you with a couple of quick things. We're gonna go over
1:20:44
in just a second. I'm gonna give you the best podcast in my opinion of 2018. But before that,
1:20:49
I have people ask me all the time because they're like, I can't, I can't listen to 40 episodes a
1:20:53
week. Like you listen to dozens of different podcast episodes or podcast shows and some of those shows
1:20:59
have five, you know, six episodes a week. So I wanted to give you my short list. If you could only
1:21:04
listen to three podcasts, okay? So I'm going to try to encapsulate as many people as possible
1:21:10
with these three choices. But I'm gonna give you the three podcasts. If you can't listen to anything
1:21:14
else, you should listen to these three, okay? The first one is the Ben Shapiro show. These are
1:21:18
not in any particular order, okay? But the first one is the Ben Shapiro show. And this is why I
1:21:22
say it all the time. It's a Monday through Friday. Plus he has a Sunday conversation,
1:21:26
which is very interesting. But it keeps me up to date on what's going on in politics.
1:21:31
Because if you watch Fox News or CNN or MSNBC or Twitter or whatever you're doing to get your
1:21:36
news, it's so hard to know what to focus on. Because everyone's outraged about something.
1:21:41
And you know, there's not equal amounts of outrage and not everything is that big of a deal.
1:21:45
But I feel like he does a really good job of making sure you get current events,
1:21:51
you kind of get his point of view, but you get a little bit of culture, you get a little bit of
1:21:54
history. It's a very interestingly done show. It's done very, very well. Again, I, you know,
1:22:00
do a drinking game with this podcast. Every time I say interesting, take a drink, you'll be dead by
1:22:04
halfway through. But the thing is, is in an hour, he's getting you a tremendous amount of content.
1:22:09
And in a week, you're getting five, six hours of Ben Shapiro and his, his level of debate in some
1:22:15
of his philosophies on things. It's just a can't miss. I listen to it every single day,
1:22:20
very, very rarely have I missed a day of that podcast. Okay. The next one is the briefing,
1:22:25
and that's with Albert Mueller. And so again, that's news and events from a Christian worldview.
1:22:29
Again, it keeps you up to date on what's going on. And obviously with Ben Shapiro,
1:22:33
he's coming at things very much more from an Orthodox Jewish, but mainly a conservative viewpoint.
1:22:38
Albert Mueller is coming to you from a Christian viewpoint, a gospel center viewpoint.
1:22:42
So you're getting your news, you're getting the world events and the things going on around you,
1:22:47
but you're getting it through a theological lens. And the last one I would say you guys should
1:22:51
listen to is the Joe Rogan experience. Okay. And again, I know that's going to offend some people
1:22:55
because again, he does some things and believe some things that are offensive, but from an
1:22:59
interest standpoint. And I thought about putting the Jocko podcast in here, but I did Joe Rogan
1:23:04
instead because Jocko podcasts are pretty straightforward. You know what you're going to get?
1:23:08
It's going to be a military book. It's going to be grimy and dirty and uncomfortable. And then
1:23:12
he's going to do a Q&A where he talks about surfing and waking up early and jujitsu.
1:23:16
But you just keep coming back to it. But you got something for everybody with the Joe Rogan
1:23:21
experience. You got the dopey podcast with other comedians where they're just basically trying to
1:23:25
one up each other. And then you got the super scientific and medical podcast, nutrition, the
1:23:30
jujitsu MMA. It's just, it's all right there in one show. That's why he's one of the biggest
1:23:35
guys in that space. All right, guys, we've made all the way down here to the very end. So I'm
1:23:39
going to give you what my opinion is as the best podcast episode of 2018. So if I had a drum
1:23:46
roll, I'd hit it right now, but I'm just going to go ahead and give it to you. All right, guys,
1:23:49
it is the JRE MMA show number 11 with John Donahur. And that is obviously from the Joe Rogan experience.
1:23:56
And that was on Jill January 15 of this year. And so I talked about it a little bit briefly,
1:24:01
but John Donahur is one of the more interesting people in the jujitsu space. Even if you're not
1:24:07
into jujitsu, this is a very entertaining episode of this podcast because you get to see somebody
1:24:12
that is actually challenging Joe Rogan. Typically, people are just happy to be there and they're just
1:24:16
kind of chatting, but he's actually challenging Joe Rogan to think differently because Joe Rogan's
1:24:21
a black belt and jujitsu as well. He's a 10th planet black belt. But then you have Donahur
1:24:25
who learned under Hinso Gracie up in New York, get to hear a little bit about his background,
1:24:29
how he got into jujitsu. But there's several seminal things that he talks about in this podcast
1:24:35
that are just just incredibly interesting to anyone that does jujitsu. If you don't do jujitsu
1:24:40
for a week, you're going to listen to this podcast and be blown away. And if you've been doing it for
1:24:43
15 years, you're going to listen to this podcast and be blown away. It's that in depth and that,
1:24:49
you know, exciting of a podcast. And John Donahur, I mean, if you watch him, he's not, he's not a
1:24:56
very good looking guy. He's kind of a creepy looking guy. He's kind of got his eyes darting around
1:25:01
the whole time. I actually just have to listen to the audio multiple times of this podcast. But I
1:25:05
went back today and actually watched some of the video of it, which I'm going to leave a link for
1:25:08
for you guys here in a second. But man, it's just the guy is so full of knowledge. Hey,
1:25:14
you can kind of ignore the fact that he's wearing a lime green rash guard and his eyes are darting
1:25:18
around and he's looking around at different things and says some things are a little bit [inaudible].
1:25:22
But it's such a fun podcast for you guys to listen to. But even right around the middle
1:25:26
part of that podcast, he's talking about this, this match with one of his students. It was Gordon
1:25:32
Ryan and he was going up against a guy named cyborg cyborg is a multiple time world champion.
1:25:36
And cyborg had been a black belt in Jiu Jitsu for more years than Gordon Ryan had even been doing
1:25:41
Jiu Jitsu. And at the age of 21, and with very little Jiu Jitsu experience relative to cyborgs,
1:25:47
he basically went step by step showing you in a video of how Gordon Ryan won the match.
1:25:51
And literally about 30 seconds before the match ended, he's like, at this point, the match is over.
1:25:57
Cyborg just doesn't know it yet. But then he basically walks you through exactly why he knew
1:26:01
at that very moment that that match was over. So guys, again, I took in over 2000 podcasts this
1:26:07
year, but that is the one that I keep thinking about over and over. That's the one that I've
1:26:11
constantly gone back to and talked about with my friends. And, you know, for me, I don't reread
1:26:16
books. I don't re listen to podcasts. I want to get the content in whether I liked it or not.
1:26:21
I just want to move on to the next thing. But this is one that I've kept coming back to.
1:26:24
So just wanted to make sure to share that with you guys. So if you don't listen anything else this
1:26:28
year, I would definitely listen to that one. So guys, I want to make sure that I get from you
1:26:32
what your favorite podcasts are and any can't miss episodes. So if you would do me a solid email me
1:26:37
at info at undaunted.life again, info at undaunted.life, or you can hit me up on Twitter or Instagram,
1:26:43
usually a little bit more active on Instagram, just to give you guys a heads up. But if there's
1:26:47
any podcasts out there that I'm missing, any that I need to be listening to on a regular basis,
1:26:51
be sure to hit me up and give me that info. All right, guys, before we let you out of here,
1:26:54
we're going to do a quick resilience boost. As you know, by now, we are immense ministry in our
1:26:57
mission is cultivating mainly resilience. And we do that specifically by providing content that
1:27:02
for just spiritual, mental and physical toughness. And so today it's all about that mental resilience,
1:27:06
guys, go load up on your podcasts. All right, I'm gonna leave you a list here of all the podcasts
1:27:12
that I talked about in detail about the individual episodes. I'm not going to be able to include links
1:27:16
for those because you have limits on how much content you can put in a description of a podcast.
1:27:20
I think it's like 4,000 characters or something like that. So I can't put a bunch of links in there.
1:27:25
It's kind of like last week, I wanted to give you links to a whole bunch of books,
1:27:27
but I ended up only been able to give links to the top 10 books that I was basically informing
1:27:32
you guys about or the nine or so. So with this one, wherever you get podcasts, go and subscribe.
1:27:38
So if you're if you're a Google play or iTunes or SoundCloud, and there's several other places,
1:27:43
some of these are on YouTube, go find them, subscribe and start listening. That's the best
1:27:49
way that you guys can start getting in this content that's going to be interesting to you.
1:27:53
So I'm going to leave you with the space to go ahead and do that today.
1:27:56
